VardaValar1: Aiya Ent :-)
IWF519 has entered the room.

IWF519: Aiya!
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Heya
VardaValar1: Aiya Eonwe :-)
IWF519 has left the room.
VardaValar1: I invited the ones currently visible.
Eonwe Valar: Pallando's the only one with an invitation from me right now.
IWF519 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: There we go. I kept hitting the wrong button last meeting. Your turn. :-)
Eonwe Valar: ?
VardaValar1: Eomer hit the wrong button and crashed out just now. : )
Eonwe Valar: Ah.
VardaValar1: Eonwe, would you like to chair today?
VardaValar1: I can do it, but might have to leave early.
Eonwe Valar: Sure.
VardaValar1: Thanks :-)
Eonwe Valar: Looks like we might as well begin now.
VardaValar1: Aye, that time of day.

Eonwe Valar: Elen Sila Lumenn Omentielvo!
Eonwe Valar: Membership:
Eonwe Valar: Anyone have any membership news?
VardaValar1: I do.
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead.
VardaValar1: We have a new member, Nimrodel-(V), who came in from LotRO.
VardaValar1: She's Gildor-(V)'s wife, delightful lady. : )
VardaValar1: She grouped with Gildor, Indis, and myself on lowbies, with her first character, a hunter.
VardaValar1: Much fun was had by all - we were all nearly the same level. : )
VardaValar1: Also
VardaValar1: Bilbo-(V)'s birthday was the 24th, and Sauron-(Valar)'s is today.
VardaValar1: Much cake and many visitors. *puff*
VardaValar1: and ice cream, and goodies.
VardaValar1: *passes cake to all in this room*
VardaValar1: Hello from Sauron, Eowyn, Bilbo, and Fangorn. : )
Eonwe Valar: Happy Birthday to them :}
ArPharazonV: Hello back!
Eonwe Valar: And heya :}
ArPharazonV: and indeed, happy birthday
VardaValar1: The folks gaming in LotRO have had their schedules scrambled by the start of the school year and we are trying to get sorted out again. Good luck to all in school!
ArPharazonV: better not be Bilbo's 111th or you might never see him again
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: *nod* thanks, had my first exam, think it went well... hope it did, anyway
VardaValar1: Bilbo and Frodo in the books had their birthdays this week on the 22nd. Maybe something for our Tolkien chat. :-)
VardaValar1: *crosses fingers for Phar's brain*
ArPharazonV: checked some questions afterwards in the lectures and the book, seems to have gone off rather well, but of course I must not run ahead of things
VardaValar1: And we have people on in LotRO right now according to Eomer who is present there.
VardaValar1: Gives hope? : )
ArPharazonV: indeed, but hopefully not false hope ;-)
VardaValar1: : )
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Ok, let's move on to Web news.
top

Eonwe Valar: Web:
VardaValar1: oops
VardaValar1: Web reminds me, new Tolkien-only member. : )
VardaValar1: So that is also web news. : )
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead :}
VardaValar1: For the Stories section, our new Tolkien-only member, Eiladwyn-(T) sent in the story "Even Now".
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/fiction/authors/Eiladwyn/stories/EvenNow.htm
VardaValar1: Vignette
VardaValar1: She found out it was our anniversary and that she could join with a story, so she said we could have that one for the anniversary and joined.
VardaValar1: She is trying to figure out AIM and come to probably the next meeting as she's not home today.
VardaValar1: She uses two other messengers. Probably best if she got Pidgin?
ArPharazonV: Flad's the expert on that here, I think?
VardaValar1: Her story has an interesting insight into Arwen, and how dangerous Celebrian's leaving may have been for her, another possible Tolkien chat topic. : )
VardaValar1: Fladrif? It's http://pidgin.im isn't it?
VardaValar1: I just checked and that link worked.
VardaValar1: I downloaded it and still need to activate it. *cough*
ArPharazonV: don't worry, you're not even close to my tendencies of procrastination
ArPharazonV: I need to deliver a summary of 2 articles by tuesday, hardly read the articles
VardaValar1: I have been just fine using AIM, not very motivated.
fladrifv: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Better read them soon!
VardaValar1: Aiya, Fladrif : )
Eonwe Valar: :}
fladrifv: I have it on auto accept sorry for my delay
ArPharazonV: and the double drabble isn't finished yet either, I've got some work to do!
Eonwe Valar: In other web news, the GPMU is ending this Wednesday.
VardaValar1: I should probably use Pidgin to help people contact for the yearly contact to say they want to remain associated with us.
fladrifv: and yes pidgin is the best for multi acount messaging
karakedi25 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: But you can continue updating your info with Eonwe across the year. He cleans house once a year so the info won't be so out of date.
karakedi25: Aiya
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis. : )
karakedi25: playing in lotro with a friend, so will be multitasking
karakedi25: (non-guild)
Eonwe Valar: Of course, that doesn't mean you can't send me your gaming info or update it at any time, but to get it in fresh for the new Valian year (begins October 4th), you need to have it to me by Wednesday.
Eonwe Valar: Most of you here have already sent me your gaming info.
Eonwe Valar: To clarify for those who may not know what I'm looking for, I ask every year for what games you play and how you can be found in those games (what name you go under).
Eonwe Valar: This is so members can find good people to game with whatever the game they play.
ArPharazonV: how are they guaranteed that we are good people? :-)
Eonwe Valar: You can see what I do with that info by checking out the Games Page at www.valarguild.org/eonwe
VardaValar1: We pre-screen for people who are literate and capable of being good people. : )
Eonwe Valar: You managed to convince Varda to let you in? :}
VardaValar1: There you go! hehe
Eonwe Valar: If you convinced one of our Maiar or Valar to actually test you, chances are you know how to be a good person.
VardaValar1: If we find out someone hurtful joined, we kick them out soon as we realize.
VardaValar1: Usually they show their colors in the first few days.
karakedi25: hehe, I've fooled you all! ;-)
VardaValar1: Some take longer, so we kick them then.
VardaValar1: Who let that black cat in here!
Eonwe Valar: Our rules and CoC are pretty simple: No profanity or obscenity, treat others honorably.
ArPharazonV: and some take 6 years to show their full colors *rubs hands*
Eonwe Valar: Hehe Indis
VardaValar1: In pvp, no gloating over kills or being a bad sport about being killed. It's just part of the game chosen.
VardaValar1: Gloating and grumping must be done off-screen. ;-)
Eonwe Valar: In a game, don't do something the creators would frown on, like buying or selling gold.
VardaValar1: We are the folk who like to actually play the game. : )
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
karakedi25: *hides her gold from Varda*
VardaValar1: If I want gold, I'll ask Aule if he could cook some up for me when he gets around to it. :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Are there any questions about the GPMU while we're still technically on the subject? :}
VardaValar1: Thank you to Eonwe for going to the considerable trouble of keeping up the Games page for us all. : )
Eonwe Valar: It's my pleasure :}
VardaValar1: Is there hope of adding in bits like what server, names, time of day? Or just too hard to get that info?
VardaValar1: Some games are told by server, nice and clear. : )
AriehnV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Arien : )
Eonwe Valar: That depends on how much info the members want to send me to have put up there.
AriehnV: aiya there all :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya Arien
Eonwe Valar: I already try to give server names when you sort the players by a particlar game.
Eonwe Valar: *particular
VardaValar1: Thanks : )
Eonwe Valar: Anything else members might think is useful, like gaming frequency, I *could* make available in some fashion, if the desire for it is great enough.
VardaValar1: Or if the mention is made? It is a huge help.
Eonwe Valar: Members of could would have to let me know that info too.
VardaValar1: Sadly, my times are madly irregular. :-(
Eonwe Valar: *of course
VardaValar1: So just put "irregular".
ArPharazonV: all you can say for me in wow is that I'll be busy most evenings from 7 to 11 European server time :-)
VardaValar1: We could do Daily, Weekly, Monthly?
AriehnV: or twice a week?
VardaValar1: Aye
ArPharazonV: as in playing frequency? wouldn't work for most of my games, I can leave a game for months on end and then return to it daily
IWF519: same here
AriehnV: its like that with my characters lol
IWF519: my gaming habits have been irregular as of late
AriehnV: but usually i stick to wow and lotro , still more wow
Eonwe Valar: I could probably have "irregular, "Daily", "Weekly", "when asked"
Eonwe Valar: or something like that.
ArPharazonV: (note on Varda's request: I believe the times I mentioned are 1 to 5 pm in valar time)
Eonwe Valar: I'm considering letting someone click on a game link in someone's list of games on the main games listing, and have it take them to that person's name in the sorted table for that game.
Eonwe Valar: I.E, if you go to the Games Page and click on "Member Games Listing" in the Gaming menu, you see I have a list of games next to my name.
Eonwe Valar: If I did what I'm thinking of doing, you could click on "World of Warcraft" next to my name, and it would automatically bring up the World of Warcraft table and skip right down to my name.
Eonwe Valar: That probably won't make it in for the GPMU, but could be done not long after if I do it.
Eonwe Valar: Any thoughts on that?
VardaValar1: Cool, something to look forward to later. : )
IWF519: sounds cool
VardaValar1: Sounds useful.
ArPharazonV: sounds complicated to build, but if it's no problem...
VardaValar1: Getting yourself into work, but it does sound like a good idea.
Eonwe Valar: More time consuming than difficult.
top

Eonwe Valar: Gaming:
Eonwe Valar: WoW:
Eonwe Valar: Patch 3.2.2, and now 3.2.2a came out. The old Onyxia is no more.
Eonwe Valar: Brewfest is going on right now.
ArPharazonV: for many of us, the time of our first 310% speed flying mount ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Another holdiay event is going that I've sadly forgotten the name of.
ArPharazonV: Harvest Festival
Eonwe Valar: That's it, thanks.
Eonwe Valar: Both Brewfest and Harvest Festival end next Saturday, so make sure you get in what you need to get in if you're going for your "What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been" Achievement for your Violet Protodrake.
Eonwe Valar: Brewfest being the one required for that.
VardaValar1: Thanks for the time warning!
Eonwe Valar: Lothar:
Eonwe Valar: My Priest is now 79, having been riding the Argent Tourney to 80, and it won't be long until he's 80, and he's going to be a Champion with his third faction soon.
Eonwe Valar: Uldaman: Sounds like it's been busy over there.
Eonwe Valar: I beleive Fangorn, Sauron, and Bilbo did a couple of dungeon runs during the week.
Eonwe Valar: *believe
VardaValar1: And we hope to be running Uldaman shortly.
Eonwe Valar: Cool.
Eonwe Valar: LotRO:
Eonwe Valar: Landroval server:
Eonwe Valar: I assume we had a turtle run on Monday, and I'm sure we won.
VardaValar1: Eomer has to leave now, hopes to be back on LotRO later.
VardaValar1: No
IWF519: Namarie all, Ill be sure to check the transcript later
Eonwe Valar: Take care Eomer.
karakedi25: see you in ME, Eomer :-)
VardaValar1: The timing has been scrambled so badly that we can't seem to get the people for the run. So we pugged.
IWF519 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Sorry to hear that.
VardaValar1: We did very well on the pug, had three Valarites in it.
VardaValar1: We do lots of other quests, and got way up with our crafting on a bunch of us.
AriehnV: grats :-) , i dinged 20 on Arieniel my runekeeper and got farming apprentice profficient
AriehnV: so got a stack of of yellow onions and fresh mushrooms and carrosts
karakedi25: well done
karakedi25: Tinirian reached level 29 and is now working on the orc-killing trait that will get her a port to Rivendell.
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming done this week?
VardaValar1: StarCraft/BroodWar lanning with Eowyn, Fangorn, Sauron, and Varda. : )
ArPharazonV: did some Battle for Middle-Earth, cleared out the evil campaign quite nicely after doing every single optional level and getting all the Ring-powers
ArPharazonV: got a small start on the good campaign, somewhat into level 1, Moria, but not very far yet
VardaValar1: I have to go now, this is the time I promised family, pardon, and Namarie!
VardaValar1 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: I did some WoW Europe too, getting my violet protodrake, and am now about 3 days away from 100 mounts
ArPharazonV: running out of things to do, I've been preparing to level one of my alts, the lvl 25 rogue Caldros, and have been setting up with bags and talents, and decided what zones he should tackle next
ArPharazonV: so on my way to explore the world with the little gnome :-)
Eonwe Valar: Congrats :}
ArPharazonV: raid-wise I'm doing well, my community started focusing on hardmodes in 10-man Ulduar this week... gotten Leviathan down with 3 towers up after some troubles, and got the hardmodes for Ignis and XT, as well as "medium-mode" for the Iron Council, with Molgeim as last boss
ArPharazonV: we'll be continuing that tomorrow night
Eonwe Valar: Congrats.
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming, or shall we move on to Tolkien?
ArPharazonV: so 's been quite an interesting week, I'm thinking there'll be some changes in my WoW activity, but only time will tell
ArPharazonV: that's the last of my stories... oh yeah, I finished Broken Sword
ArPharazonV: the adventure game I described last week
fladrifv: great game btw :-)
ArPharazonV: indeed, had some fun with it, though the ending felt a bit rushed
ArPharazonV: and there it ends for me, and I won't be here for much Tolkien, gotta go to sleep
top

Eonwe Valar: Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well :}
karakedi25: night
Eonwe Valar: Varda's left us with two topics.
Eonwe Valar: Everyone still here say Aye.
AriehnV: *zzzz *
AriehnV: aye
Eonwe Valar: Just Arien's here?
ArPharazonV: aye, but for how long I cannot say
Eonwe Valar: Should we play tic-tac-toe? :}
ArPharazonV: go ahead, I'll be the arbiter
Eonwe Valar: hehe
karakedi25: aye
Eonwe Valar: Let's pose the first of Varda's questions, and see what we can say about it.
karakedi25: (also playing in lotro)
Eonwe Valar: VardaValar1: 1. Bilbo and Frodo's joint birthday, not shown in movies, but JRRT considered it important, why?
karakedi25: A number of steps in the story were staged at their parties.
karakedi25: Bilbo left at the first one.
ArPharazonV: Frodo left around another one
karakedi25: They were used as milestones in the hobbits' annals
karakedi25: yes, Frodo left after his birthday, presumably to move to Crickhollow
AriehnV: Bilbo took the occasion to declare frodo his heir , well he was declared Bilbos heir earlier but he came into his inheritance when Bilbo left
AriehnV: i guess it was also to show the similarities between the two or to stress it , since they moved together and it was certainly not only to make their birthday parties more convenient altho thats what Bilbo claimed ;-)
karakedi25: and of course it came at the autumn equinox, which is certainly an important turning point in the year
Eonwe Valar: Frodo was Bilbo's favorite nephew :}
ArPharazonV: their combined ages also made for some nice numerical fun!
Eonwe Valar: Aye
AriehnV: the guests didnt find it ammusing .. grin " a gross indeed .. a common expression*
AriehnV: they felt like *pieces that were put in a parcel to make the number complete * or something of the kind
ArPharazonV: :-)
karakedi25: especially as 'gross' is a merchant's term
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
AriehnV: (i only read that bit two days ago or so hehe so its quite fresh in my mind)
Eonwe Valar: That helps :}
ArPharazonV: I did read the Bored of the Rings parody book recently, where at first Bilbo plans to blow up the party with fireworks, but Gandalf convinces him just to go out with a bang....
ArPharazonV: but other than that not so recent yet :-)
AriehnV: hmm ok , we can see the points why the joint birthdays would consider it important for the story , it shows a turning point in the story of middleearth and for those two hobbits especially
Eonwe Valar: Aye, the first one we get to see is a passing of the torch moment.
pallandovalar has entered the room.
pallandovalar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: The last one we get to see they're going off to sail West.
pallandovalar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Bilbo becomes the oldest Hobbit that day, passing the Old Took.
Eonwe Valar: Anythign else to add?
AriehnV: i cant think of anything else
karakedi25: nor I
Eonwe Valar: OK, then I shall let everyone turn to other engagements.
Eonwe Valar: Oh, and don't forget to read the RP. Varda and INdis made posts this week :}
AriehnV: :-) ok will do
Eonwe Valar: *Bangs Gavel*
top

Eonwe Valar: Aftermeeting :}
AriehnV has left the room.
karakedi25: I hope Auros will have something to say in the RP :-)
Eonwe Valar: As an aside, I was thinking this last week that it's a shame we don't have anyone into making machinima in the guild. With all of those "on-scene locations" in LotRO, we could certainly recreate some moments from the books :}
Eonwe Valar: I'm still mulling over my next part, but I have somewhat of an idea how Auros will react.
ArPharazonV: allright, saving and sending transcript
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
karakedi25: Yes, some re-enactments could be nice :-)
ArPharazonV (5:33:16 PM): saved  [note: times in CSDT, transcript from Eonwe, so add one hour for ESDT which is Valar Standard Time]
Eonwe Valar (5:33:59 PM): Or even recreating the Scout Ahead story so far in movie form,.. although the main story arc we're currently on would have to wait until Siege of Mirkwood came out.
karakedi25 (5:34:42 PM): that could be splendid!
ArPharazonV (5:34:51 PM): if the speed of recreation is anything like the speed of writing, we'll be glad to have it finished by the time LotRO ends ;)
Eonwe Valar (5:34:58 PM): :}
karakedi25 (5:35:13 PM): hehe, true!
Eonwe Valar (5:35:30 PM): Well, adapting the story parts to scripts would be easier as the parts are finished.
karakedi25 (5:35:35 PM): though people might be motivated by having their characters immortalized in moving pictures
ArPharazonV (5:37:03 PM): if I actually had a character in LotRO...
ArPharazonV (5:37:07 PM): but feel free to recreate me ;)
Eonwe Valar (5:37:10 PM): hehe
ArPharazonV (5:38:20 PM): I'm sure Varda will want to read about it, so make your own transcript ;)
Eonwe Valar (5:38:29 PM): Since we don't have machinima guys in our guild though (as far as we know anyway :}) it's all just "wouldn't it be cool" talk :}
Eonwe Valar (5:38:53 PM): Got one :}
ArPharazonV (5:39:02 PM): good, good
ArPharazonV (5:39:13 PM): well, you might develop machinima guys in the guild :)
ArPharazonV (5:39:28 PM): I'm sure one of the more technical and creative folk could be interested
ArPharazonV (5:39:35 PM): anyway, transcript sent, I'll be off
Eonwe Valar (5:39:55 PM): Sleep well Phar.
ArPharazonV (5:40:09 PM): namarie all!
karakedi25 (5:40:24 PM): namarie!
Eonwe Valar (5:40:34 PM): Take care Indis and have fun :}
ArPharazonV (5:40:34 PM) has left the room.
karakedi25 (5:40:35 PM): and I will be off too. Thanks for a good meeting.
karakedi25 (5:40:41 PM): namarie
karakedi25 (5:40:47 PM) has left the room.
Eonwe Valar (5:46:59 PM): By the way, it is the Sunday before Anniversay Meeting, so we should be trying to keep the channel open... :}
Eonwe Valar (6:22:08 PM): Any readers might be interested in this: http://www.aragornsquest.com/
fladrifv (6:59:51 PM) has left the room.
