ArPharazonV: Aiya
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya
Menelvagor Valar: And Namarie.
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
Menelvagor Valar: Happy Anniversary and see you tonight.
ArPharazonV: cya
fladrifv has entered the room.
fladrifv: Aiya
ArPharazonV: aiya
fladrifv has left the room.
karakedi25: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Aiya and Happy 12th Anniversary!
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: We just had a feast at home, all Valarites. Happily stuffed.
karakedi25: welcome back, sleepyhead ;-)
karakedi25: how lovely
VardaValar1: *eyes completed chore-pile* uh, right.
ArPharazonV: didn't run out of seed-cakes? ;-)
VardaValar1: I've cleared my day for guild stuff. :-)
VardaValar1: We had more like some honey-cakes. ;-)
VardaValar1: Anyone inside a game at the moment?
VardaValar1: I got a full 6 hours sleep and am rarin' to go!
karakedi25: I'm in lotro
ArPharazonV: I've still got 2 hours of WoW raid, trying for Coliseum on 25-man
VardaValar1: Did the Melkorrim make it for their morning run? [note: LotRO anniversary event]
VardaValar1: Good luck, Phar!
karakedi25: yes, and Tinirian went with them
VardaValar1: Excellent! They did have a free slot then.
karakedi25: Melkor and Angrod are on now, but probably not doing anything together (60 and 35 in different places)
VardaValar1: I was considering sneaking in and maybe making some stuff.
ArPharazonV: Onyxia didn't drop my uber-weapon, but I did get my first t9.25 tokens so far!
VardaValar1: I gave away so many mathoms that I'm low on prizes to hand out.
VardaValar1: Congrats, Phar!
karakedi25: you were very generous (and I'll bet your inventory is very happy) :-)
VardaValar1: Had the funny thought that we could have a few prizes that are not too great that we toss to the next person in the trivia line rather than keeping.
VardaValar1: I bought a bunch of that stuff.
VardaValar1: Some I made.
karakedi25: Alasse has the battle and warding scrolls, which she can hand out in batches
VardaValar1: Those are super prizes!
VardaValar1: I was hoping to make food, but that's really expensive to do.
karakedi25: yes, very
VardaValar1: Our WoW shout-out and fireworks should be later this evening well after the meeting. [note: and a great major cities shout-out with fireworks it was!]
karakedi25: Gorlim seems to be coming in to check mail but not staying
VardaValar1: He's probably also checking to see if we are doing anything.
karakedi25: could be
VardaValar1: and his mail does have a few things... ;-)
VardaValar1: This Mirkwood expansion sounds kind of grim, and Lorien-centered for the battle.
VardaValar1: I wonder how they will be including Thranduil's Halls and flets and if we can get one to call our own.
karakedi25: hehe, I don't think it included North MW, but I could be wrong
VardaValar1: It did not look as if it was included, I completely agree.
VardaValar1: If we get to it after it's already freed, that will cut a lot of what it could have.
VardaValar1: Could still have roving orc bands, intelligent spiders, annoying Lorienites trying to lord it over their "rural" cousins.
karakedi25: maybe there will be an update later that takes us north
VardaValar1: I would expect it, yes.
karakedi25: heh...that would probably be left for RP
VardaValar1: Npc's have definite attitudes too. :-)
VardaValar1: No one else is talking here, so I'm shifting chat to LotRO where we both are. As well as Melkor, Angrod, and Gorlim.
karakedi25: ok
ArPharazonV: sorry,w as busy with champion-fight, man that's a long fight
pallandovalar: oh
pallandovalar: it's been decided by several of the people on the base where I am
[note: he means the military base, Varda misunderstood thinking he meant the Eve Online base at first.]
VardaValar1: Grats : )
pallandovalar: We live on mt. doom.
VardaValar1: Yikes!
pallandovalar: I know, right?
VardaValar1: That's great!
VardaValar1: Now you'll have a way to rp a bit. :-)
VardaValar1: The Cult of Pallando.
ArPharazonV: heh
pallandovalar: /me decrees Friday as Pizza Day
VardaValar1: You could be a popular cult leader.
VardaValar1: *tosses pizza dough into the air and watches it spin flat*
VardaValar1: Fangorn on the phone says hi and Happy Anniversary to the Valar Guld. :-)
ArPharazonV: hi Fangorn!
IWF519 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Eomer and Happy 12th Anniversary!
VardaValar1: Some of us are in LotRO too.
ArPharazonV: <- personal 6th Anniversary
IWF519: Aiya ! And congrats on the ahievement
ArPharazonV: I've been here for half the guild's life now
VardaValar1: Happy 6th, Phar!
ArPharazonV: it seems longer than I expected
VardaValar1: It's your achievement too. A guild with no people is kind of...nothing? :-)
ArPharazonV: hehe
ArPharazonV: another 6 years and I'll have been here for 2/3rds!
VardaValar1: Funny how the proportion changes
ArPharazonV: and.. and.. another 6 years to 3/4th!
VardaValar1: It's been amazing watching people grow up in the guild.
VardaValar1: A lot started when they were around 15 years old.
ArPharazonV: and in 588 years I'll have been here for 99%?
VardaValar1: Good thing we have members marrying and having kids to keep us going that long!
VardaValar1: Currently 3 generations of Melkorites. :-)
ArPharazonV: currently I have no plans for offspring... kinda like Pharazon, I guess the line ends with me
VardaValar1: You can be an uncle for others. He didn't have that.
ArPharazonV: true
VardaValar1: You guys in Argent Dawn need to put Theoden's Mackie in your buddy list. Find him. He's been there quite a while. [note: Arien establishes contact with Theoden in WoW later in the meeting, most of this talk is in side windows during the Tolkien chat.]
VardaValar1: I wonder if he's on the right server.
ArPharazonV: Europe?
VardaValar1: Yes
ArPharazonV: alliance?
VardaValar1: yes
ArPharazonV: allright, added
VardaValar1: Thanks! So his name did show. Good to hear!
ArPharazonV: there is indeed a Mackie on the server
VardaValar1: Have to teach him about the Valar channel. :-)
ArPharazonV: offline at the moment, if I see him I'll tell him
VardaValar1: Thanks!
Ancbeard has entered the room.
Ancbeard: hi
VardaValar1: Aiya and Happy 12th Anniversary of the Valar Guild, Ancalagon!
VardaValar1: Chat marathon is going into the meeting, and we are also doing trivia in LotRO.
Menelvagor Valar has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
Ancbeard has left the room.
Joldahks has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Hail
VardaValar1: I don't recognize your name, Joldahks. Do we know you by another? : )
Joldahks: ich bin ein schwarzen Drache
VardaValar1: What's a Drache?
Menelvagor Valar: Dragon.
VardaValar1: Aiiya Ancalagon. : )
Joldahks: yo
Joldahks: having the devil of a time getting my other computer's aim working
VardaValar1: Glad you found a way!
Joldahks: it said it couldnt connect even though my internet was working fine. turns out it was because my system's date was off
VardaValar1: oops
Joldahks: dont remember the password for my ancbeard account so had to use this one :-)
VardaValar1: We are doing trivia in LotRO, and Tulkas says the answer to his question is also the name of his current real boat. : )
[note: prizes were given by LotROmail]
karakedi25: that's sweet :-)
VardaValar1: [Kinship] Astaldovalar: Name the ship in which Tuor and Idril sailed into the west.
[note: Earrame}
VardaValar1: I'm relaying for people who aren't in LotRO. : )
ArPharazonV: wooh, our first 25-man Anub'arak kill
VardaValar1: Grats
VardaValar1: That had to be adrenaline-pumping!
ArPharazonV: quite
ArPharazonV: especially the last 20% or so
ArPharazonV: adds down, lifeleech begun.... gotta bring him down with only 20% of your own health or so
VardaValar1: High life is over-rated. ;-)
Joldahks: the only health point that matters is the last one
ArPharazonV: the third phase on Anub, from 30% and down, gives him a leech that steals 10% of current health of every player in the raid, so in order to bring him down you have to keep his healing down, which means, keep every raidmember around 5-10k health
VardaValar1: What Anc said!
ArPharazonV: which is *hard*
ArPharazonV: as well as very nerve-wrecking
VardaValar1: eek
ArPharazonV: 10% health per second, that is
Joldahks: thank goodness my wow priest and i retired!
VardaValar1: hehehe
ArPharazonV: I got it good as a feral
VardaValar1: Mine is leveling and is now shivering in her stylish yet affordable pink boots.
VardaValar1: (Ok, not really pink)
ArPharazonV: only tanked the 3rd add in each above-ground-phase, allowed me to dps on all times in between, andn I could go full dps in the last phase
ArPharazonV: varied fight for me, which I like
ArPharazonV: Tuor's ship.... something with swan comes to mind
VardaValar1: Anc, I loved your boat comment in LotRO. Feel free to share here. : )
VardaValar1: I just noticed it's meeting time!
Joldahks: heh that's ok ill spare everyone my juvenile humor :-)
ArPharazonV: aww, but we like juvenile humor from time to time
ArPharazonV: makes us feel... rejuvenated
Joldahks: im trying to convince people im a grownup though :-)
ArPharazonV: *sigh* portal to Dalaran... always takes 5 minutes
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya :-)
Joldahks: heya
ArPharazonV: aiya
fladrifv has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Welcome : )
pallandovalar: menel: vagabond for mael and ferox, good trade?
Menelvagor Valar: I'd say so, but depends on added fittings I think.
luthienathariel has entered the room.
fladrifv: Aiya Luth
VardaValar1: Having trouble inviting Tulkas.
VardaValar1: He's restarting his computer.
luthienathariel: Suilon, mellyn in phain :-)
VardaValar1: Mae govannen. :-)
VardaValar1: We haven't quite started yet, trying to gather people.
luthienathariel: ok
karakedi25: my buddy had to leave, so I can be less intense in LotRO and join in here more
Menelvagor Valar: I've gotten myself some statistics together from the news archives and the message board :-)
VardaValar1: I'll be calling you for those, thanks. Under Web? Remind me!
VardaValar1: Tulkas is coming back on now.
VardaValar1: Phar - can you invite Tulkas? I can't seem to bring him in.
VardaValar1: TulkasValar61
VardaValar1: Crazy day in AIM. : )
ArPharazonV: invited
VardaValar1: Eonwe is afk because he's at work. He hopes to be back late this evening.
TulkasValar61 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Thanks!
VardaValar1: Much appreciated, Phar!
TulkasValar61: There I am
ArPharazonV: sorry, was still busy in WoW getting my new setpiece
VardaValar1: Huzzah!
ArPharazonV: s
karakedi25: Aiyata, Tulkas :-)
TulkasValar61: My puzzler was getting puzzled out
VardaValar1: Starting the meeting now, side windows can let you keep chatting with each other.
top

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: Today's big news is that we have reached our 12th year together.
VardaValar1: Some of us have been here from the beginning and some have come in later, livening the place up, bringing fresh ideas.
VardaValar1: We started out as Eru's vision in Diablo 1, finding a haven from the viciousness and cheating that was driving some from the game.
VardaValar1: We found others who could speak with decent language, actually liked to play the games, and that had read a very tough book in common.
VardaValar1: Over a short time we added a discovery
VardaValar1: that we had a great way to keep family and friends together in a fun environment.
VardaValar1: We also had a creative outlet that we could share with fellow Tolkien fans all across the planet.
VardaValar1: In Diablo 1, we met people from everywhere, every age, every everything, and all had these things in common.
VardaValar1: It has been a great experience and thank you all for letting me be a part of it with you. : ) You are wonderful!
VardaValar1: Not only do we have a pleasant and long history, but
VardaValar1: we continue to come up with new things, like adding music and YouTube, and new games with even more Middle-earth content (where we rock).
VardaValar1: What may come in the next decade together can only mean more improvements, but it will all still be held together by the friendships we have from our foundation.
Menelvagor Valar: Not to mention new meeting places and innovative addons to that!
VardaValar1: We've had a huge number of innovations since the beginning. We've evolved and will continue to do so with all of your help!
VardaValar1: Originally we had no "ranks". Now we have a form of rank given in recognition of effort expended for the guild.
VardaValar1: and for expertise in Tolkien's works.
VardaValar1: It helps now that we've grown, but is still quite informal. : )
VardaValar1: Tulkas, were you trying to say something? Go ahead. : )
TulkasValar61: Just remembering old bnet meetings and the need to hld the gavel l
VardaValar1: lol
TulkasValar61: hold
VardaValar1: We did have a thing going with that gavel!
VardaValar1: Generally everyone was really great about that.
VardaValar1: Tulkas, want to tell that for those who weren't there?
VardaValar1: We seem to have lost Tulkas. : )
VardaValar1: We've had cooperation and help that is stunning.
TulkasValar61: sorry cooking supper at same time
VardaValar1: AuSteinM for one, giving us space for our web pages when our own was becoming too small.
VardaValar1: mmm supper!
VardaValar1: Alatar, donating space that is our main web area now.
VardaValar1: Farmer Maggot offering his extra hard drive for space, and programming a Bridge between Battlenet and the IM's when that was possible.
TulkasValar61: the gavel was given to the first person to hold a room..gave him the power to kick/ban/ interlopers//...sometimes evildoers from bnet would raid our channel, hence the need for someone in the guild to hold the gavel 24/7
VardaValar1: The amazing generosity shown between members in-game, like a family.
VardaValar1: Some of those evildoers were evil indeed.
VardaValar1: Besides the help from live members, some members made bot programs to help us with that.
ArPharazonV: oh, I remember the Huan-bot
VardaValar1: And we had layers of channels to go to if one was taken, so we could never be stopped.
VardaValar1: Right! : )
VardaValar1: Members have always been finding ways around any problem thrown at us.
karakedi25: Tell about the Huan-bot :-)
VardaValar1: One time we even had a real life networking to locate a person who was giving us a truly terrible time. We knew people all over the world and many of us were adult and even police.
VardaValar1: Stopped that cold.
VardaValar1: The Huan-bot was a program made by Huan-(Valar)
[note: this was not our only bnet bot, members with programming expertise replaced them when bnet changed its programming versions. Unlike ours, too many bots in Bnet public areas were devoted to spamming, often ads for illegal gold and items.]
ArPharazonV: "You're under arrest for crimes committed on battle.net!"
VardaValar1: It was like a player, programmed to talk, even give trivia.
VardaValar1: It held the gavel and we knew how to get the gavel from it.
VardaValar1: Or work through it and let it keep the gavel vs disconnects.
karakedi25: why did evil-doers attack you? Does Sauron still live?
VardaValar1: Bored, silly people with nothing better to do.
TulkasValar61: They were jelous ofwhat we had
VardaValar1: Some people also have problems with the wiring in their brains.
VardaValar1: Some wanted attention and that was their weird way of getting it.
VardaValar1: It was why we needed a haven, so many were like that.
karakedi25: I know that's the case in many games.
VardaValar1: The MMORPG's are not nearly so bad, some thought we no longer needed the haven.
VardaValar1: But we found that it was still a better place to be, even there, and that even MMORPG's could become unpleasant.
ArPharazonV: *deep, ominous voice* "But they were wrong."
VardaValar1: hehehe
TulkasValar61: Godly Plate of Whale, Kings Sword of Haste.....so many duped garbage...I think Melkor had a real Whale plate ...I had a Masters Sword of Haste all the way to level 50
TulkasValar61: although none in our guild was duped
VardaValar1: True, people would use programs to cheat to make items and even levels and characters.
Menelvagor Valar: I think I have actually seen Melkor's Plate.
VardaValar1: We had to be strict about where we got things. Apparent generosity outside was often from duplicating items by cheating.
TulkasValar61: Could only accept gifts from other Valar.....and they were given freely :-)
VardaValar1: One unpleasant way to discover a dupe was for two or more of us to die, our stuff was on the ground, and the dupes would disappear because they could not both exist at the same time.
VardaValar1: We had fun littering the ground with presents. : )
VardaValar1: All were good.
VardaValar1: People would come to town and there the stuff was, right there.
Menelvagor Valar: oh my, yes there was.
VardaValar1: Or we could safely transfer our stuff between games with Valarites holding the passworded game open for us. Trust was great! Then and now.
Menelvagor Valar: I remember several games were there were very few areas that were unused.
Menelvagor Valar: And several of those piles were just free for grabs.
Menelvagor Valar: and pretty good items too.
VardaValar1: Aye, we had a free pile area around the fountain in town. : )
TulkasValar61: I miss the days of Item retrieval...going butt nekked into stirred up demons....sometimes things were lost for good if you were by yourself
VardaValar1: Genuine risk.
VardaValar1: But if a game disappeared, it seemed unfair to have lost everything when you were trying to go after it.
ArPharazonV: hmm, that could be one of the reasons I never really got into Diablo...
VardaValar1: We had a lot of people then. We could usually yell for help. : )
VardaValar1: We could have seven games going at once.
TulkasValar61: I never lost my sword...although some high armour did disappear into the ether
VardaValar1: I had to start completely over a number of times. But generosity of other Valarites plus lots of playing generally fixed that.
VardaValar1: The quality of people that we've met here has been stupendous.
VardaValar1: It's the people, not the games, that really make this place.
VardaValar1: The games give us something to do together. And things like "Hey, you saved my life!"
VardaValar1: Seeing someone game is a fast way to see their character.
VardaValar1: We also have a lot of members who love to do creative things, as well as game. Some who do it exclusively.
ArPharazonV: pff, just because I prefer the Zerg doesn't mean I like to infest people with parasites in real life!
VardaValar1: Some gamers become Tolkine-onlies and some Tolkien-onlies become gamers.
VardaValar1: heheh
VardaValar1: Aye : )
Menelvagor Valar: ooooh... reallllyy?
VardaValar1: (Zerg is my favorite in StarCraft/BroodWar too, played a couple of weeks ago.)
VardaValar1: *wipes off silly parasites and watches them hop towards the creek*
TulkasValar61: Can you even play diablo 1 anymore? I still have the disk...note the disk...1..only 1.....
VardaValar1: Yes, you can. : )
Menelvagor Valar: I think you can.
VardaValar1: Some of us still do. Bilbo was on it a few weeks ago, plays with Sauron.
VardaValar1: Eonwe is quite fond of the Middle-earth mod, and some others still play that too.
VardaValar1: The majority of our gamers that run together are in LotRO.
TulkasValar61: I forgot all about that...we had some hand in its development if I recall correctly...testing and such
VardaValar1: Natural, as it is Middle-earth and you can live there.
VardaValar1: More than that. : )
ArPharazonV: hmm, I probably should be going soon, though I'll try to stretch it with half an hour or something
VardaValar1: Fingolfin and Elrohir are members, known to the public as Varaya and Khan.
VardaValar1: I was talking with them since we played their mod, they were considering dropping it, and I said too bad, would be cool if you made a Middle-earth mod.
VardaValar1: They took the idea and ran with it, and we did a lot of testing for them.
TulkasValar61: Tulkas is suppose to be slow to forget...but I forgot that developement....it brought new life to an old game and made it even more difficult....al
VardaValar1: They said if we can figure out how to make the new programs in D1 work together again, we can make the mods again.
VardaValar1: A blast! : )
VardaValar1: That is more of the way this group pulls together over very long hauls. This thing I'm mentioning was discussed this year.
VardaValar1: It has been amazing watching people grow up from pre-teens and teens into wonderful adults.
VardaValar1: A few have said we were the only stable thing in their lives.
karakedi25: that is amazing
Menelvagor Valar: A sentiment I most definitely share.
TulkasValar61: or from adults to adults who are nearing retirement
ArPharazonV: *only* stable thing is a bit too soon for me, but it's definitely among them
VardaValar1: One older person said his contributions to the Tolkien Site were the only things he could point at as long-lasting accomplishments.
VardaValar1: Only was for just a few.
VardaValar1: These were just a few who were affected very strongly.
Menelvagor Valar: it used to be one of the extremely few stable things in my life.
Menelvagor Valar: maybe even the only.
Menelvagor Valar: And I remember the days when I used to log in on my old dial-up connection for a few minutes before bedtime, just to show my face at the meeting on sundays.
VardaValar1: hehe - Indis is standing next to me in Rivendell. Hiya!
VardaValar1: It was great to just see you for even a few minutes!
ArPharazonV: Rivendell is like the Dalaran of LotRO, I assume?
VardaValar1: Like touching base.
karakedi25: heya, V
karakedi25: :-)
VardaValar1: Not really.
karakedi25: Rivendell is like the Rivendell of the books :-)
VardaValar1: I was in Dalaran for the first time this last year, quite a place!
VardaValar1: What Indis said. : )
ArPharazonV: I meant socially
ArPharazonV: center of all trade, people getting together, a lot of commodities present, stuff like that
VardaValar1: Friendly to all, although some places open up if you gain reputaton.
Menelvagor Valar: There's sociality everywhere really.
karakedi25: it's probably the major population center of Eastern Eriador
Menelvagor Valar: Bree is one of the bigger hubs, much like Stormwind or Ironforge I guess.
AriehnV has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya Arien.
VardaValar1: We have other major cities also. Bree, Thorin's, Michel Delving and Hobbiton.
VardaValar1: Arien, aiya!
AriehnV: Aiya :-)
Menelvagor Valar: Would this be a good time to come up with a few historical statistics?
VardaValar1: We also have our own neighborhoods of houses, different by race.
VardaValar1: Menel, go ahead.
Menelvagor Valar: It's mostly about the things I helped with or set up myself for the Valar Guild though.
VardaValar1: These things are Menel's fault...
Menelvagor Valar: I haven't had much time to delve deeper into the archives for some more interesting statistics unfortunately.
Menelvagor Valar: Aye, blame me for a few certain things :-)
Menelvagor Valar: First, our Forum, or Message Board, saw its first light on August 31st 2003.
Menelvagor Valar: I thought the old Discussion Board on Yahoo was a bit too rigid and too hard to work with the setup.
Menelvagor Valar: So I started fiddling with the Proboards setup we now have.
Menelvagor Valar: The old Discussion Board on Yahoo is still very much alive I think.
VardaValar1: Yes, I keep it clean. [note: see Links page  Discussion Board section for the link normally]
Menelvagor Valar: Some interesting facts about the forum :-)
Menelvagor Valar: topics 829.posts 4241.members 237.max logins 166 april 11th 2008.LotRO RP started march 18th 2004.most posts in a single sub-board: 710.most views in a single thread: 6730 in Tolkien Trivia Round 2, LotR.
VardaValar1: We had problems with the old board, had another before that too.
VardaValar1: Menel's is the third board, and best so far.
Menelvagor Valar: Thanks and bows.
VardaValar1: 166 people there at the same time.
Menelvagor Valar: aye.
Menelvagor Valar: Next up on the statistics is AIM.
Menelvagor Valar: I'm not exactly sure how it got started or who started the initiative, but I do know I was one of the key players in setting up AIM.
Menelvagor Valar: December 7th 2003, it was first experimented with, after the regular B.net meeting.
Menelvagor Valar: The next week, AIM was taken as the regular meeting place, with a temporary relapse the week after (I think).
VardaValar1: Aye, AIM bombed the very next meeting after the first. Tried to scare us off!
Menelvagor Valar: January 23rd 2005 saw a nifty little program by Farmer-Maggot(V), which linked AIM, IRC and B.net.
Menelvagor Valar: January 1st 2006 was the meeting where it became apparent one of the AIM patches had killed the bridge, and it was dropped thereafter.
Menelvagor Valar: It's possible that it was discontinued due to the unuse of IRC and the massive exodus from b.net to WoW.
VardaValar1: The bridge was destroyed by changes to IM programs.
Menelvagor Valar: I thought so, yes, it's not mentioned in the meeting summary, and the transcripts from that time are faulty (at least for me).
VardaValar1: Faulty? Are the links bad?
Menelvagor Valar: links to Page not found error.
VardaValar1: We had some link craziness during the server change. Be sure to email me where the links are bad for repair.
Menelvagor Valar: actually, that particular one does work.
Menelvagor Valar: I know though that the 2004 era of AIM has many faulty transcripts.
VardaValar1: Ok, we can do that in email, don't try to drag them all up during the meeting or everyone will fall asleep. : )
Menelvagor Valar: Nah, I know I checked most of them before, so I think that entire year is faulty.
VardaValar1: Tells me it's probably a folder.
VardaValar1: Does that complete the report, Menelvagor?
VardaValar1: Here's an url of a ship that Tulkas has been the captain of in the past, named Shadowfax:
VardaValar1: http://www.bananaboattoursgrenada.com/
VardaValar1: Caution, the page has music. : )
Menelvagor Valar: I'm done with the stats btw :-)
luthienathariel has left the room.
VardaValar1: Eonwe has made his annual State of Valar Gaming report.
VardaValar1: He shows the before and after statistics.
VardaValar1: When he says "admitted to playing" he's referring to people who actually told him they are playing a game rather than his having to find out a tougher way.
VardaValar1: Here's the Url, and it can be reached from the News if you want to see it later:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/NewsArchives/extras/2009/2009state.htm
VardaValar1: For today's anniversary, we have a number of activities either already done or in the process or planned for later tonight
VardaValar1: They are listed on an anniversary page. I hope to have links to other anniversary pages from it in the future as located.
VardaValar1: We didn't have the system for filing them that we do now, but future ones should be easier, and help us plan!

Tolkien:
VardaValar1: Does anyone have any other comments they would like to make before shifting to a trivia game? : )
VardaValar1: Anyone who is still here, please type Aye.
VardaValar1: Aye
Joldahks: aye
ArPharazonV: aye
ArPharazonV: for now
fladrifv: AYE
AriehnV: aye
VardaValar1: Had thought we had enough for teams, but maybe not.
VardaValar1: So we'll take those of us still here. The first can ask a question of any difficulty from LotR.
ArPharazonV: won't be here for long though, alarmclock going off in 5 hours
ArPharazonV: but I'll be fine for a few questions
VardaValar1: Anyone can answer. Then the next in line, not the one answering, can ask the next.
VardaValar1: So it's ArPhar who is about to leave, Ancalagon, Arien, Fladrif, Indis, Varda. Did I leave anyone out?
AriehnV: i ve got time for once lol , i am on holiday this week
fladrifv: yay
VardaValar1: Ar-Pharazon, lead off when ready!
fladrifv: still need 2 questions for my lotr quiz tomorrow in SL
VardaValar1: Maybe you can swipe one of ours.
ArPharazonV: allright, lessee, starting with perhaps an easy one....
VardaValar1: That would help. : )

ArPharazonV: what was the color of the "Book" made out of Bilbo's diary and appendices that was, according to the prologue, the main source of the story of Lotr?
karakedi25: aye
VardaValar1: Red
ArPharazonV: correct

VardaValar1: Ancalagon, your turn to ask.
VardaValar1: Maybe we should whisper? : )
Joldahks: ok how bout another easy one
VardaValar1: Easy does help us : )
Joldahks: What was the name of the room in Rivendell where Frodo was reunited with Bilbo?
karakedi25: Hall of Fire
Joldahks: correct

VardaValar1: Arien, your turn to ask one. : )
AriehnV: ok
AriehnV: what name was the pony that Frodo rode on the way back from Rivendell if that was and that he decided to keep>#
VardaValar1: Strider
AriehnV: correct
ArPharazonV: heh, did not know that..
VardaValar1: Delightful : )
fladrifv: its also in the lotro board game :-)
VardaValar1: I am not going to answer the next one aloud. : )

VardaValar1: Fladrif, your turn.
fladrifv: What is the name of the witchking before he became a witchking?
[note: time passes while brains churn over this one]
ArPharazonV: the name Murazor comes to mind
VardaValar1: Trick question. His name was never actually given.
fladrifv: :-)
karakedi25: It's never given, and names are apocryphal
karakedi25: V beat me
ArPharazonV: allright, then mine's not canon ;-)
karakedi25: nope, though I've seen it, but can't remember it
VardaValar1: Murezor was his name in the card game.
ArPharazonV: indeed, and the tale grew in the telling from there
VardaValar1: Ok, I couldn't resist answering, sorry. : )
VardaValar1: Wrote an article on him
VardaValar1: http://www.valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/articles/w/Witchking/Witchking.htm

VardaValar1: Indis, your turn!
karakedi25: When did King Theoden give Shadowfax to Gandalf?
Menelvagor Valar: When Gandalf returned from the White Tower researching scrolls on Elendil and the One Ring if I recall correctly.
Menelvagor Valar: Or perchance before that.
Joldahks: ah, for good, he gave him to gandalf after gandalf freed him from saruman's influence
AriehnV: TheodenV sais hi to everyone in the meeting
VardaValar1: Aiya Theoden!
VardaValar1: If he has AIM, he's welcome to come in. : )
VardaValar1: Or Pidgin
Menelvagor Valar: Jodahks has it right I believe.
karakedi25: Close enough. I believe it was after the Battle of Helm's Deep and the confrontation with Saruman.
VardaValar1: (Don't ask a question to which you do not already know the answer.)
VardaValar1: After being freed from Saruman.

VardaValar1: My turn
Menelvagor Valar: nuh-uh.
Menelvagor Valar: Jodahks was first Varda ^^
VardaValar1: Thanks!
VardaValar1: Ancalagon, go ahead.
Menelvagor Valar: Oh, Ancalagon! I'll remember :-D
Joldahks: has varda even had a turn yet?
VardaValar1: (We were not doing it by who answered but by name)
Menelvagor Valar: ah, sorry :-)
Joldahks: then tis not me turn :-)
Menelvagor Valar: then tis my turn :-D
ArPharazonV: then it's Menel's turn, indeed
VardaValar1: VardaValar1: So it's ArPhar who is about to leave, Ancalagon, Arien, Fladrif, Indis, Varda. Did I leave anyone out?
VardaValar1: So after Indis, Menelvagor goes alphabetically.
VardaValar1: Fire, starman!
Menelvagor Valar: Sorry, I was slightly afk at that particular roll call :-)
VardaValar1: As were most. : )
Menelvagor Valar: How many messengers did Sauron send to Dain and what was Dain's response to them.
AriehnV: one .. two in all i think
AriehnV: and Dain sent them both away
AriehnV: he said he would let them know if he had that *little trinket*
VardaValar1: hehe
AriehnV: or am i completley out?
Joldahks: i think gloin said something about the third and final visit coming soon, but whether it did or not i dont know
ArPharazonV: hmm, I'll be saving and sending transcript
VardaValar1: We will stop after my question. Most need to leave.
Menelvagor Valar: I'd have to say that Arien will get it.
VardaValar1: (I am being sneaky by whispering)
Menelvagor Valar: Although Ancalagon has a good point, it's only an assumption the third came, not fact.
Menelvagor Valar: therefore, grats Arien.

VardaValar1: Who was the first child of Samwise Gamgee?
karakedi25: Rosie
karakedi25: golden hair, un-hobbitly beautiful
ArPharazonV (6:03:47 PM): saved [note: times in CST, add one hour for EST]
VardaValar1 (6:04:10 PM): Not the right name, well-described.
Joldahks (6:04:22 PM): elanor
karakedi25 (6:04:27 PM): ah right
Menelvagor Valar (6:04:31 PM): that's the correct one.
VardaValar1 (6:04:57 PM): Elanor is right.
Menelvagor Valar (6:05:02 PM): Named after the flowers around (can't remember the name) in Lothlorien.
VardaValar1 (6:05:11 PM): Thanks for a fun game and lots of good memories!
karakedi25 (6:05:17 PM): Cerin Amroth
AriehnV (6:05:23 PM): thats it aye
AriehnV (6:05:52 PM): *This is the heart of elven doom* Aragorn said
VardaValar1 (6:06:03 PM): Almost, Elvendom
AriehnV (6:06:07 PM): lol
AriehnV (6:06:17 PM): aye , grin
top

VardaValar1 (6:06:22 PM): After-meeting:
VardaValar1 (6:06:38 PM): Menel is wanting to ask another for fun. Go ahead, Menel!
Menelvagor Valar (6:06:56 PM): It's quite simple for people with good memories for names, otherwise it's rather hard.
ArPharazonV (6:07:05 PM): then you'll need to make your own transcript, Varda, because I won't have caught it :)
Menelvagor Valar (6:07:28 PM): What does Treebeard name Lothlorien? (and I'd like to hear his full description for bonus points).
luthien@vfemail.net (6:07:35 PM) has entered the room.
karakedi25 (6:07:44 PM): Laurelindorinan is at least part of it
VardaValar1 (6:07:53 PM): What Indis said. : )
karakedi25 (6:07:59 PM): there was a long string of names after that
luthien@vfemail.net (6:08:21 PM): (hmm apparently something went wrong at 12:22)
Menelvagor Valar (6:08:26 PM): possibly, but I don't remember that particular bit.
luthien@vfemail.net (6:08:28 PM): Suilad :)
karakedi25 (6:08:32 PM): suilad
VardaValar1 (6:08:32 PM): Hiya
Menelvagor Valar (6:08:38 PM): I know Laurelindorinan is correct.
VardaValar1 (6:08:40 PM): We are just finishing up.
AriehnV (6:08:40 PM): the vale of the singing gold it used to be called .. now it is the dream flower
pallandovalar (6:09:05 PM) has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar (6:09:08 PM): And Treebeard said that it was just a short name in Entish.

VardaValar1 (6:09:26 PM): Takes all day to start a meeting. Sort of Valaritish. ;-)
Menelvagor Valar (6:09:38 PM): take all week rather *grin*
Menelvagor Valar (6:10:04 PM): we've done 1 meeting over the course of an entire week.
VardaValar1 (6:10:38 PM): Chat marathon. : )
fladrifv (6:10:49 PM): we did that :=
ArPharazonV (6:11:23 PM): allright, the transcript is sent
VardaValar1 (6:11:38 PM): Thank you, Phar!
ArPharazonV (6:11:54 PM): didn't catch the last question or the previous answer, but you'll take care of that of course
ArPharazonV (6:12:02 PM): now I really should be going
VardaValar1 (6:12:21 PM): I should have it
VardaValar1 (6:12:24 PM): Sleep well!
Menelvagor Valar (6:12:31 PM): Namarie Pharzie.
Menelvagor Valar (6:13:18 PM): and with that, a fun quotation from Pharzie himself:
Menelvagor Valar (6:13:21 PM): Ar-Pharazon's tombstone:
"Arphy you can do anything,"
is what Sauron said.
I attacked the gods,
and now I'm pretty dead.

VardaValar1 (6:13:26 PM): lol
VardaValar1 (6:13:48 PM): That is a humor bit we are supposed to be adding to. What our characters could have on their tombstones.
ArPharazonV (6:13:55 PM): yes yes, the last line still bugs me, but it'll do
luthien@vfemail.net (6:13:56 PM): Losta vaer :)
ArPharazonV (6:14:22 PM): namarie all
VardaValar1 (6:14:24 PM): The last line makes it funny!
Menelvagor Valar (6:14:32 PM): Aye, I agree.
ArPharazonV (6:14:35 PM): the "pretty" doesn't ring well
luthien@vfemail.net (6:14:39 PM): Happy anniversary, all ...
Menelvagor Valar (6:14:49 PM): well, you're not exactly dead are you?
Menelvagor Valar (6:14:52 PM): just more or less.
ArPharazonV (6:14:56 PM): true
ArPharazonV (6:14:59 PM): and still pretty ;)
Menelvagor Valar (6:15:02 PM): which is pretty much the same as "pretty" :-D
VardaValar1 (6:15:07 PM): Thank you, Luthien!
ArPharazonV (6:15:15 PM): goodnight
Menelvagor Valar (6:15:16 PM): Thanks Luthien!
ArPharazonV (6:15:20 PM): sleep awaits... for 4 hours
ArPharazonV (6:15:27 PM): I'll live
VardaValar1 (6:15:29 PM): I should grab that line for the News page. : )
VardaValar1 (6:15:34 PM): Sleep fast!
Menelvagor Valar (6:15:35 PM): so you're going to sleep in 4 hours time?
fladrifv (6:15:36 PM): sleep well Aphar
Menelvagor Valar (6:15:39 PM): it has to wait until then?
ArPharazonV (6:15:48 PM): well after 4 hours it goes away again
ArPharazonV (6:15:56 PM): but yeah
ArPharazonV (6:15:59 PM): namarie
VardaValar1 (6:16:00 PM): Run Phar run!
ArPharazonV (6:16:01 PM) has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar (6:16:02 PM): sounds like something I'd like to skip :-)
Menelvagor Valar (6:16:13 PM): I'd prefer to catch the sleep, not keep it waiting *grin*
VardaValar1 (6:16:19 PM): hehe
VardaValar1 (6:16:28 PM): Menel, are you still able to work on the Humor page?
VardaValar1 (6:16:44 PM): We had that server switch
Menelvagor Valar (6:16:44 PM): I haven't in a long, long time.
VardaValar1 (6:16:58 PM): Then maybe I should boot you from the page. hehe
Menelvagor Valar (6:17:10 PM): And I haven't had, or taken, the time to get acquainted with the new server stuff.
TulkasValar61 (6:17:20 PM): Sorry was AFK for our rather orcish supper I made
VardaValar1 (6:17:20 PM): Aww, you can send in stuff for humor and I'll do it.
VardaValar1 (6:17:33 PM): Orcish supper? Meat on the menu?
Menelvagor Valar (6:17:47 PM): Ah yes, of course.
VardaValar1 (6:17:59 PM): Storming here.
Menelvagor Valar (6:18:01 PM): Well, that is one of my little projects for november 29th :-)
Menelvagor Valar (6:18:05 PM): added to the list.
TulkasValar61 (6:18:12 PM): Roast leg of lamb...feels sort of bad...but tastes so good
VardaValar1 (6:18:12 PM): Sending in a funny?
VardaValar1 (6:18:33 PM): Sheep, a Biblical meal. : )
Menelvagor Valar (6:18:35 PM): rather add more than a few.
VardaValar1 (6:18:53 PM): Good! Needs some injections of new stuff.
VardaValar1 (6:19:10 PM): Anyone can send in humor bits, email to me, I'll stickt them in there for Menelvagor.
Menelvagor Valar (6:19:16 PM): Aye, but humor of that level is kinda inspirational, so no promises!
VardaValar1 (6:19:22 PM): (I can reach your page, Menel. Mwuahahaha)
Menelvagor Valar (6:19:50 PM): You can reach every page of the site *grin*
TulkasValar61 (6:20:00 PM): An orc, an elf, and a dwarf walk into a bar.........
VardaValar1 (6:20:03 PM): True. It's good to be a Valie.
VardaValar1 (6:20:07 PM): lol
VardaValar1 (6:20:14 PM): Go Tulkas!
Menelvagor Valar (6:20:15 PM): Back on the old server I had access to your stuff as well.
Menelvagor Valar (6:20:22 PM): I wisely left them alone of course.
VardaValar1 (6:20:33 PM): Aye, we trusted each other. And if one of us needed help, the other gave it.
VardaValar1 (6:20:52 PM): This whole guild is based on trustworthy people. : )
VardaValar1 (6:20:58 PM): Website is no exception.
VardaValar1 (6:21:19 PM): Eonwe can get to anything I have, and really helped the art site recently!
VardaValar1 (6:21:50 PM): I was having a hard time handling the massive link change from the server switch, he wrote a program and fixed the whole cavern!
Menelvagor Valar (6:22:09 PM): and immediately were flushed out by Barliman's speech waterfall.
VardaValar1 (6:22:17 PM): heheheh
Menelvagor Valar (6:22:25 PM): Thanks Tulkas!
VardaValar1 (6:22:28 PM): Barliman's Bar
Menelvagor Valar (6:22:39 PM): That single line will get a rush of new jokes up!
VardaValar1 (6:23:10 PM): That's a thought. Do a "Complete this..."
Menelvagor Valar (6:23:35 PM): several would be good too :-)
VardaValar1 (6:23:52 PM): This is the lowest number of Tolkien Site additions for an anniversary and an all time high for the number of active gaming responders.
VardaValar1 (6:24:14 PM): Feel free to send in late material for the anniversary, but label it that it's for the anniversary.
VardaValar1 (6:24:47 PM): Sauron says hi, just came home. : )
VardaValar1 (6:25:15 PM): We made contact with Theoden-(V) during the chat, over in WoW Argent Dawn server.
VardaValar1 (6:25:26 PM): He said hi to everyone here. That is very cool.
Menelvagor Valar (6:25:29 PM): Hey Sauron.
Menelvagor Valar (6:25:40 PM): I've got something especially for Sauron!
VardaValar1 (6:25:43 PM): Thank you Arien for contatcting. : )
Menelvagor Valar (6:25:48 PM): Complete this:
VardaValar1 (6:25:53 PM): uh oh : )
Menelvagor Valar (6:26:00 PM): If I was [insert name here], I would....
Menelvagor Valar (6:26:07 PM): So, for Sauron that would be...
VardaValar1 (6:26:22 PM): Might want to add a situation to that.
Menelvagor Valar (6:26:28 PM): If I was Sauron, I would be more Evil than Sauron could ever hope to be. mu. ha.
VardaValar1 (6:26:35 PM): ha.
Menelvagor Valar (6:27:11 PM): I'd sure like to know Sauron's response to that *smile*
VardaValar1 (6:27:20 PM): I'll go tell him.
TulkasValar61 (6:27:46 PM): If I were tulkas, I would be heading to night school to catch up on this LOTRol thingamajig.
VardaValar1 (6:29:16 PM): Sauron-Valar laughed at yours and said his completion would be: "I would invent lawyers."
TulkasValar61 (6:29:47 PM): lawyers with real estate broker minions?
VardaValar1 (6:29:49 PM): Our school is reading the books and chatting and doing stuff for the Tolkien Site.
VardaValar1 (6:30:06 PM): Sauron laughed and said they could have those minions.
VardaValar1 (6:31:18 PM): I just showed Sauron the Shadowfax, the ship, and he said it looked pretty darn awesome.
TulkasValar61 (6:32:24 PM): The minions would bedazzle you with small print....and then the lawyers would slam you with the Law Suit spell..which takes all your stuff
TulkasValar61 (6:33:45 PM): shouldna mentioned lawyers...It gets me worked up :-X
TulkasValar61 (6:33:53 PM): but in a good way
Menelvagor Valar (6:34:17 PM): If I were Melkor, I would give up on being trounced on Arda and dominate the rest of the bazillion gajillion stars in the universe.
VardaValar1 (6:34:28 PM): That's thinking.
TulkasValar61 (6:35:03 PM): but would he be Melkor without the challenge?
VardaValar1 (6:35:05 PM): That's what Sauron thought of when he thought of evil, so he agrees with you, Tulkas.
VardaValar1 (6:37:10 PM): About this chat room,
VardaValar1 (6:37:24 PM): some have again suggested that we keep it up all the time.
Menelvagor Valar (6:37:48 PM): well, I found this week to be very refreshing.
VardaValar1 (6:37:54 PM): That may be very difficult, it is for me, but what do you guys think of having it up when we have people just sitting their AIM characters online?
Menelvagor Valar (6:38:00 PM): Got to meet up more with everyone.
karakedi25 (6:38:14 PM): I've enjooyed having it available
VardaValar1 (6:38:16 PM): Get yourself to LotRO!
Menelvagor Valar (6:38:22 PM): especially with the non-european guildies, who I see precious little.
VardaValar1 (6:38:23 PM): It is really nice. : )
karakedi25 (6:38:24 PM): that too
Menelvagor Valar (6:38:31 PM): I know, I know.
VardaValar1 (6:38:53 PM): It's like having bnet back super-sized.
Menelvagor Valar (6:38:56 PM): but still.
TulkasValar61 (6:38:59 PM): The time indicator helps to see if people are recent or just sitting afk..and you can leave stuff to scroll back to
VardaValar1 (6:39:18 PM): So, anyone who wants to, make the room and keep it going whenever you take a notion.
VardaValar1 (6:39:28 PM): Between us, it may be available quite a bit.
VardaValar1 (6:39:40 PM): A giant message machine!
TulkasValar61 (6:39:42 PM): unless your puter tends to melt down and turn off without notice>:o
Menelvagor Valar (6:39:45 PM): Aye.
VardaValar1 (6:39:46 PM): Aye
VardaValar1 (6:39:56 PM): In your case, just leave it up now and then. : )
VardaValar1 (6:40:15 PM): Email is still best for leaving me messages, gang. : )
Menelvagor Valar (6:40:18 PM): You can always hop in, see if anyone responds and take it from there :-)
VardaValar1 (6:40:23 PM): True
VardaValar1 (6:40:46 PM): Doesn't have to be constantly open, but with people from so many time zones, it could be up a lot!
Menelvagor Valar (6:40:54 PM): Aye!
VardaValar1 (6:41:01 PM): Anyone can make it
VardaValar1 (6:41:09 PM): Fladrif, questioni on Pidgin
Menelvagor Valar (6:41:11 PM): and unless I have a comp crash, I can leave it up 24/7.
karakedi25 (6:41:33 PM): Yes, I have a question about pidgin too
VardaValar1 (6:41:33 PM): Can you make a transcript of these meetings in Pidgin as we do in AIM?
Menelvagor Valar (6:41:34 PM): and usually if my comp crashes, I'll have it up within a few minutes again.
VardaValar1 (6:41:45 PM): I am seriously considering migrating there.
VardaValar1 (6:41:58 PM): We have major power outages sometimes.
Menelvagor Valar (6:42:07 PM): I'm not, I got too used to AIM to switch now.
VardaValar1 (6:42:11 PM): Last year we were down for 2 weeks.
VardaValar1 (6:42:27 PM): Pidgin has a section that is supposed to be just like AIM>
VardaValar1 (6:42:36 PM): If so, I would probably be fine.
VardaValar1 (6:42:58 PM): We also have the Forum for contact.
Menelvagor Valar (6:43:07 PM): I don't like multiple IMs incorporated in a single program, have had bad experience with it before.
VardaValar1 (6:43:21 PM): We need to get those LotR and Sil trivia threads going again, maybe ask some easies so people get back in the habit.
VardaValar1 (6:43:50 PM): Fladrif seems to like it, and it might be good for a contact person to use at least.
VardaValar1 (6:44:16 PM): I'm nervous about the switch, concerned that it will be a mess.
VardaValar1 (6:44:46 PM): AIM has not been very good about letting people into their own chat program.
karakedi25 (6:45:08 PM): I think I have one posted in trivia already. Not too hard, I believe.
TulkasValar61 (6:45:18 PM): Well people, happy anniversary, I am going to go to LotROL to try to snag level 31 before bed..Good night all

VardaValar1 (6:45:44 PM): I may join ou. : )
VardaValar1 (6:45:53 PM): Fladrif is not answering, our expert.
VardaValar1 (6:46:13 PM): Where are you gaming, Tulkas?
karakedi25 (6:46:24 PM): How can one join this chat room from Pidgin?  I currently have AIM up as well, and I was hoping to avoid that.
VardaValar1 (6:46:45 PM): You use Pidgin in place of AIM.
fladrifv (6:47:08 PM): pidgin can join chat rooms
karakedi25 (6:47:27 PM): Yes, but I haven't found out how to invite myself into a chatroom from pidgin
fladrifv (6:47:35 PM): ok buddies, join chat
fladrifv (6:47:49 PM): and then type there valarguildmeetingplace
fladrifv (6:47:57 PM): oh and select AIM as protocol
VardaValar1 (6:48:07 PM): Does it ignore spaces in the chat room name?
karakedi25 (6:48:29 PM): OK I see it.
fladrifv (6:48:34 PM): you need to write it as one word
karakedi25 (6:48:39 PM): ah
IWF519 (6:48:41 PM) has left the room.
karakedi25 (6:49:05 PM): dropping out to try it
karakedi25 (6:49:09 PM) has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar (6:49:45 PM): AIM ignores the spaces when we create the chat room from AIM itself it seems.
karakedi25 (6:49:56 PM) has entered the room.
VardaValar1 (6:50:04 PM): On the Silmarillion chat thread, it's Ancalagon's turn.
VardaValar1 (6:50:09 PM): Aiya Indis!
karakedi25 (6:50:13 PM): I had to use AIM again.
karakedi25 (6:50:24 PM): Pidgin sent me to a room of my own.
