Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
fladrifv has entered the room.
fladrifv: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: Heya.
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: We'll begin shortly.
ArPharazonV: sure, just doing some dailies
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya!
Eonwe Valar: Heya Menel.
ArPharazonV: Aiya Menel
Menelvagor Valar: a bit busy raiding.
Eonwe Valar: Ok, let's go ahead and begin. This ought to be a quick meeting, hehe.
Menelvagor Valar: I'll try and check in between fights.
top

Eonwe Valar: Elen sila lumenn omentielvo!
Eonwe Valar: Membership:
Eonwe Valar: Varda and family, along with Elwing, are having fun at Ren Faire.
Eonwe Valar: Any other membership news?
top

Eonwe Valar: OK, on to Web:
AriehnV has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Nothing new that I'm aware of on the Tolkien site since last Sunday. My ongoing work/improvements to the Games Page are of course, ongoing.
ArPharazonV: oh, sorry, membership, yes
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead Phar.
ArPharazonV: well
ArPharazonV: this week a new period of college is gonna start, which has an effect on my mondays, which will now be from 13.15 to 15.00
ArPharazonV: which means I can stay longer in meetings :-)
Eonwe Valar: Cool :}
AriehnV: nice and aiya :-)
Eonwe Valar: Heya Arien :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other Membership news? :}
AriehnV: not from me
ArPharazonV: not from me
top

Eonwe Valar: OK, then on to Gaming News:
Eonwe Valar: WoW:
Eonwe Valar: Don't forget that November 11th is the final day to merge your WoW account with a battle.net account.
Eonwe Valar: Well, not final, but you know what I mean.
Eonwe Valar: If you don't want to experience an interruption in ability to play.
Eonwe Valar: Lothar:
Eonwe Valar: Several of us on during the week, some instance runs, instance runs. Got Kalmo, my Druid, up to Northrend enchanting.
Eonwe Valar: er, minus the redundant "instance runs" ...
AriehnV: *grins* nice one the enchanting
Eonwe Valar: The 20% extra experience from the heirloom items certainly helps.
Eonwe Valar: Had to get him to 65 first.
AriehnV: how that?
Eonwe Valar: 65 is the minimum level for learning Northrend enchanting for some reason.
Eonwe Valar: Uldaman: Nothing I'm aware of, but I'm sure there were some goings-on. [note: a good number of instance runs]
Eonwe Valar: Menel also had some WoW news. Go ahead Menel.
Menelvagor Valar: 65 is the multiplier to get to the skill level needed to learn grand master enchanting.
Eonwe Valar: Multiplier? 65 x 5 is only 325..
Menelvagor Valar: hmmm... right you are.
Menelvagor Valar: 67.5 would be the correct multiplier then.
Eonwe Valar: Interestingly enough, I didn't need anywhere near 65 to get grand master engineering.
Menelvagor Valar: or whatever... I guess I am a bit tired :-D
Eonwe Valar: 450 divided by 5 is 90 :}
Eonwe Valar: I'm not even sure they worry about that much at this point though :}
ArPharazonV: myeah, the +10 levels and +75 professions don't exactly match up anymore
ArPharazonV: the Classic wow system got a bit lost in that
Eonwe Valar: yeah
ArPharazonV: only weaponskills still follow the 5 per 1 rule now
AriehnV: and lockpicking
ArPharazonV: ah, yes, that too
AriehnV: as weell
Eonwe Valar: Looks like Menel is back in a fight, so let's give Arien a chance to share her news.
ArPharazonV: and defense of course
ArPharazonV: also, my dailies are done, so no longer afk :-)
AriehnV: (- one e and l)
AriehnV: ok :0 just wanted to say that my rogue is lvl 74 now .. well 74 and a third , and she has been battling at the wrathgate and in undercity to be awarded with a nice pair of trousers
AriehnV: and the medallion of heroism L)
AriehnV: Apart from that she has been successfully retrieving the schematc for a field repair bot which might come in handy at some point
AriehnV: together with another member from the High Guard not too long ago :-)
ArPharazonV: (not me)
AriehnV: else id been seeing Ar Pharazon here on and off in guild and valar chat
AriehnV: and i think once Menel
AriehnV: thats it from me
Eonwe Valar: Congrats :}
Eonwe Valar: LotRO:
Menelvagor Valar: I got a few mins now :-)
Menelvagor Valar: Best I get my news in now :-)
Eonwe Valar: Afraid I haven't popped into LotRO this week, but I'm sure we're having fun in there running instances and getting ready for the new expansion.
Eonwe Valar: Gogogo :}
More WoW:
Menelvagor Valar: Well, as Arien just noted, I have rather disappeared from Argent Dawn.
Menelvagor Valar: That's because I've decided to vacate the server in the hopes (and already succeeded) of finding a raiding guild elsewhere.
Menelvagor Valar: I have too much history on AD to continue trying to find groups to raid there.
Menelvagor Valar: And as you know, WoW to me, is mostly about raiding.
ArPharazonV: that bad, hm?
Menelvagor Valar: well, let's say that 90% of the top raiding groups on AD I've either been in, or have been rejected to, due to members having a problem with me, though why, heaven knows.
Menelvagor Valar: and the other 10% I don't know.
Menelvagor Valar: and that concludes my news, and my window between fights.
AriehnV: on which server are you now or dont you want to say\/
AriehnV: ?
Eonwe Valar: Well, good luck with that, Menel.
Eonwe Valar: Hope you can find somewhere you can have fun.
Menelvagor Valar: Earthen Ring.
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news?
Menelvagor Valar: I transfered there a couple days ago...
Menelvagor Valar: and it's now a free migration :-(
ArPharazonV: well, I've played a few games
AriehnV: nice
AriehnV: aye fcm thats cool
ArPharazonV: including the expansion to Battle for Middle Earth II, finishing the campaign, and going through a full War of the Ring game against 5 computer opponents
AriehnV: i ve tried one other other game as well :-) but Ar Phara first :-)
Menelvagor Valar: I'll retain a few chars on AD though, just so I can show my face once in a while. (yes, I died again, I really hate faction champions).
ArPharazonV: because I was facing 5, all working together, I reduced their productivity by 75% in order to "give myself a chance" but it turned out I would quickly waltz over them in the real-time battles
AriehnV: :-)
ArPharazonV: so in the end it wasn't much of a challenge, though it was fun to conquer all of Middle Earth one territory at a time, in risk-style
ArPharazonV: and I doubt I'm gonna repeat that any time soon ;-)
ArPharazonV: other game I played was Guild Wars
ArPharazonV: met up with a few old members from my guild there, though it turned out the people I was mostly working with a year ago have left the guild or left the game, which is a bit of a shame, the guild's a lot less active now
ArPharazonV: but I'm still trying to get the grasp of Guild Wars' mechanics of play again in whatever way I can
ArPharazonV: so I hope to be a bit more active in that
ArPharazonV: also, with BfME II finished for me, I'm contemplating continuing some games I've had waiting for me for sometimes years, and finally finishing them, including Warwind, SC: Brood War (I've still got 3 levels unfinished there), Morrowind, some Total Annihilation expansions...
ArPharazonV: so not sure what game I'll choose, but whatever I choose, I'll have a new report for you next week!
Eonwe Valar: Hehe, thanks.
ArPharazonV: and of course, if anyone wants to multiplayer in those games, and I'm not raiding in WoW at the time.... I'm up for it
AriehnV: are you done Phara? i ve tried a new game muliplayer team pvp lol
ArPharazonV: oh, yes, sorry, go ahead :-)
AriehnV: maybe you heard all the name and Turgon mentioned it last week, the us version of it
AriehnV: so i downloaded the European one
AriehnV: the game is League of Legends
AriehnV: basically they call it Mult Media Online Arena game something like that
AriehnV: its basically two five v five teams who have to get to the basis of the enemy team to destroy their Nexus
AriehnV: you have three different lanes which all lead to that Nexus and in each lane there are turrets which which defend the route .. that is they attack the enemy players and minions
ArPharazonV: is it an FPS?
AriehnV: before a team really starts heading for the enemy base they should wait for the minions to spawn .. npcs which run ahead of you and so take most of the attack
AriehnV: and damage
AriehnV: what is an FPS?
ArPharazonV: first person shooter
ArPharazonV: a genre
ArPharazonV: mostly named after perspective of view, and gameplay
ArPharazonV: what kind of game is it?
Eonwe Valar: I believe the box for League of Legends claims it's "from the guys who brought us DotA."
ArPharazonV: hmm, RTS-style then?
Menelvagor Valar: dota isn't exactly rts :-)
ArPharazonV: well it's based on an rts (or rps) game, so the perspective is rts
Menelvagor Valar: more like an rpg shooter kind of style.
ArPharazonV: or rpg, aye
AriehnV: League of Legends has rpg game elements as well
AriehnV: since you have to fight both npcs and player controlled champions
ArPharazonV: so you look on the game from above?
AriehnV: basically you play a summoner who controls a champion which you can select from various fighter styles
AriehnV: melee, caster , aoe
AriehnV: and assassin type which is similar to rogues i think
AriehnV: you can choose from a list of given champions and you control the champion
AriehnV: besides the champions special spells and moves you have various summoner spells which grow in power and ability as your summoner levels
AriehnV: i ve been only in losing teams so far so my summoner Mirandano is only lvl 3 and a bit :-)
ArPharazonV: oh, sounds nice
ArPharazonV: rpg shooter, indeed
AriehnV: but didnt play that much so far only five games since i downloaded i think , but its quite fun
AriehnV: you can run a trial game to have a look at the outline of the lanes and how they are built up
AriehnV: they have a tutorial as well
AriehnV: oh yeah and they have in game chat too .. i think their net is pvp.net
ArPharazonV: ahh, the screenshots show it to be a third person view
ArPharazonV: I'll call it an RPTPS then :-)
AriehnV: oh mo chreachsa ^^ what the heck is THAT?
ArPharazonV: Role-Playing Third Person Shooter ;-)
AriehnV: eeeps hehe ok :-)
ArPharazonV: it looks nice, anyway, nifty graphics
Menelvagor Valar: I just noticed something funny about the game though.
AriehnV: its about two hours download so its worth
ArPharazonV: sounds dota-styled, but from third person view
Menelvagor Valar: Something I think was intentional.
Menelvagor Valar: the setup file or the entire game Phar?
Menelvagor Valar: Ever checked the acronym?
ArPharazonV: LOL?
ArPharazonV: the game, Menel, the general gameplay and the goal of the game etc
AriehnV: aye thats it Phara lol ;-)
ArPharazonV: 3 lanes, defensive emplacements, spawning minions, levelling player characters
Menelvagor Valar: lol yeah lol ^^
ArPharazonV: it's just like dota but with a few twists :-)
ArPharazonV: anyway, brb, eating something
Menelvagor Valar: well, the setup file itself is 503 mb, which isn't terribly much, takes me about 5 mins.
Eonwe Valar: It is DotA-styled. As I said, the box advertises that it was from the guy who gave us DotA :} Not much of a reason to push that point if they're not trying to attract that crowd :}
Menelvagor Valar: that's also why I think the acronym was intentional.
Eonwe Valar: Anyway, thanks for that description of the game, Arien :}
AriehnV: ah i dont know about DotA .. i know only D. E. H. T. A s little pittass ;-)
AriehnV: its something new i tried was quite nice
AriehnV: :-)
Eonwe Valar: DotA = Defense of the Ancients, a Warcraft 3 custom map.
AriehnV: aha thanks
Eonwe Valar: Same basic idea as what you're described.
Eonwe Valar: *you've
AriehnV: oki do
ArPharazonV: it's by far the most famous series of custom maps for Warcraft 3... there was even a song made about it ;-)
top

Eonwe Valar: If we've wrapped up gaming, is there any other business before we move to Tolkien?
Eonwe Valar: Ok, Tolkien time then :}
Eonwe Valar: Whisper me topics :}
Eonwe Valar: Ok, then how about a couple rounds of trivia before we adjourn.
AriehnV: sounds good :-)
ArPharazonV: sure
Eonwe Valar: Everyone still awake at their keyboards and up for some trivia say aye :}
ArPharazonV: aye
AriehnV: aye
AriehnV: i guess Menel has managed to stay alive for a bit ;-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: OK Arien, kick off our trivia :}
AriehnV: ok ..one fairly simple question to start with
AriehnV: when Bilbo left Bag end he wrote a letter to Frodo and told him about the things he had to know on his own
AriehnV: he also mentioned a little thing about the ring .. how to keep it best , because there was a specific danger
AriehnV: do you remember what that was?
AriehnV: or do you want me to be more specific about it
AriehnV: ?
ArPharazonV: hmm, it's really been too long since I read the books... but I'd imagine him writing never to wear the ring but keeping it safe in his pocket instead?
karakedi25 has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Are you asking for the way to keep it, or the specific danger?
Eonwe Valar: or both?
karakedi25: Aiya!
Eonwe Valar: Heya Indis. Just in time for some Tolkien trivia :}
karakedi25: Apologies for late arrival; was in an instance
ArPharazonV: Aiya
AriehnV: both , Bilbo warned against something and gave Frodo advice how to keep the ring when he had it on him
AriehnV: aiya Indis :-)
AriehnV: or i make the question more simple
Eonwe Valar: If I recall, it would be keeping it on a chain, since it tended to slip off the finger.
AriehnV: :-D
AriehnV: bull's eye Eonwe :-D
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Phar's turn :} We'll just go right down the line :}
ArPharazonV: Hm. Hmm. Yes. I guess I'll find a book, because nothing has been coming to my mind. I'll browse through the pages and come up with something :-)
Eonwe Valar: Doesn't have to be too difficult :}
ArPharazonV: Allright. Here we go. After Denethor burned on his pyre, what, it is said, would be the only thing any man would ever see when looking into his Palantir, unless he had a great strength of will?
karakedi25: burning hands
ArPharazonV: correct!
karakedi25: or hands in flames
Eonwe Valar: Quick typing :}
Eonwe Valar: OK, my turn :}
Eonwe Valar: A fairly easy one: What was the name of the first king of Rohan?
ArPharazonV: that would be Eorl, right?
karakedi25: eor
karakedi25: l
Eonwe Valar: Correct :}
karakedi25: the young, to be exact
ArPharazonV: :-)
ArPharazonV: it's all in the details, hmm?
Eonwe Valar: Eorl is good enough :}
Eonwe Valar: Indis' turn to pose a question :}
karakedi25: thiniking
karakedi25: does it have to be lotr?
karakedi25: ok, another easy one...
Eonwe Valar: Hmm.. Anyone disagree with extending this to Sil or Hobbit?
karakedi25: what led to Gandalf's rescue from Orthanc?
karakedi25: And what was Gandalf's reaction when he found this out?
ArPharazonV: I'd say "a moth" but that's just the movie...
karakedi25: nope
Eonwe Valar: Radagast the Brown sending word to out among the beast to come to Orthanc with any news.
Eonwe Valar: *beasts
Eonwe Valar: Gwaihir ended up coming, Gandalf took that chance to escape.
karakedi25: yes...and what was Gandalf's reaction when he learned this?
Eonwe Valar: My guess is he was thrilled :}
karakedi25: more specifically?
karakedi25: shall I tell?
Eonwe Valar: He realized Radagast wasn't in on Saruman's caper?
karakedi25: yes
karakedi25: he was relieved to learn that Radagast wasn't a traitor
AriehnV: Gandalf asked Radagast to gather information to be passed to him
karakedi25: correct
AriehnV: which Radagast did and one of these messengers was Gwaihir
AriehnV: or one of his eagles ..they didnt find him where he ought to have been l.. search ... rescude
AriehnV: rescue
karakedi25: Gandalf had thought that Radagast was in cahoots with Saruman because he had given Gandalf the original message to go to Orthqanc
karakedi25: next?
ArPharazonV: Radagast the fool...
karakedi25: the bird-lover....
ArPharazonV: :-)
Eonwe Valar: Arien's turn? :}
ArPharazonV: brb, gotta print something
ArPharazonV: and currently the only working printer is with my dad's pc
AriehnV: ok
AriehnV: Aragorn told a story on Weathertop? Which story was that and why did he tell a story in the first place?
karakedi25: story of Luthien and Beren
karakedi25: not sure of why, but I believe Sam asked for one
AriehnV: why did he ask for one?
karakedi25: wanted to know about elves, was frightened, (not sure)
AriehnV: aye that was the main reason , they were afraid and uncomfortable and rightly so
karakedi25: ah yes, someone brought up the story of Gil-Galad and his fall, and Strider thought it was inappropriate for the circumstances
AriehnV: *nods * :-)_
AriehnV: Aragorn said *it is a story full of sorrow and pain like all the story of the elves in Middlearth in the elder days .. but yet it may give you hope * or something to that effecg
AriehnV: effect
AriehnV: next :-)
karakedi25: is anyone else still here?
Eonwe Valar: I am :}
Eonwe Valar: It would be Phar's turn if he's back yet, but it seems we may as well call it after this round.
karakedi25: *nods*
karakedi25: did I miss anything major in the main part of the meeting?
Eonwe Valar: Arien gave us a description of the new game Legue of Legends.
Eonwe Valar: *League
AriehnV: i actually forgot to mention that i did play Lotro ON wednesday and tuesday evening a bit :-)
AriehnV: but i know Indis saw me and Varda as well
karakedi25: yes indeed
AriehnV: Menel mentioned he has different University times on mondays now , so he can stay longer in meetings that was his most important member ship one
Eonwe Valar: That was Phar :}
AriehnV: oops Phar , grin
AriehnV: aye
AriehnV: my apologies
ArPharazonV: ok, back
Eonwe Valar: Go Phar, last round :}
AriehnV: well .. speak of ..
ArPharazonV: hmm, what a mess... slow computer
ArPharazonV: allright of
ArPharazonV: seeing as rotk's the only book I have here, I'll go browse through it again, maybe something appendixy
ArPharazonV: allright, who was the last king of Arnor, and which 2 Palantiri were lost with him?
karakedi25: Arvedui...
karakedi25: (so-called LastKing)
ArPharazonV: correct, and the stones? :-)
karakedi25: Amon Sul was one, and if there was one at Fornost, it would have been that one
karakedi25: (or Annuminas)
ArPharazonV: Annuminas, yes, and Amon Sul :-)
Eonwe Valar: Ok, my turn... :} What was the name of the stone that Aragorn called the Dead Men of Dunharrow to meet him?
karakedi25: Erech
ArPharazonV: the stone of Erech
AriehnV: stone of erech
Eonwe Valar: Wow, quick responses by all three, hehe :}
Eonwe Valar: Correct, and Indis' turn :}
karakedi25: Linguistics coming up: What do the Sindarin names Annuminas, Amon Sul, and Arvedui mean?
karakedi25: (if translated into English)
ArPharazonV: I have the feeling I should know Amon Sul, but the rest would just be guesses
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, Amon Sul would be roughly "windy hill," Arvedui is "Last King,"...
karakedi25: hill of the winds, yes, and Arvedui would actually be something like HRH Farewell :-)
ArPharazonV: arrivederci..
Eonwe Valar: HRH?
karakedi25: His Royal Highness
ArPharazonV: His.. yes, that
Eonwe Valar: heh
karakedi25: though in fact, it should be HM his majesty
karakedi25: Annuminas? break it apart
karakedi25: give up? :-)
ArPharazonV: Minas is tower
Eonwe Valar: I'm trying to remember what "annu" means :} Somehow I don't think "Tower of gifts" (based on Annatar) is the proper translation
Eonwe Valar: :}
ArPharazonV: Annu.... hmm...
ArPharazonV: the first thing that comes to mind would be year, but that's not Tolkien
AriehnV: Annuminas
karakedi25: tower/fortification, yes...
AriehnV: minas .. towe
AriehnV: r
karakedi25: It's the same root as Numenor
AriehnV: annun .. sundown?
karakedi25: yes, I think so, Tower/Fort of the West
ArPharazonV: tower of sundown? west?
Eonwe Valar: So something along the lines of Tower of the west.
karakedi25: probably with reference to Numenor
ArPharazonV: ahh, of course, henneth annun
AriehnV: :-) nice one
AriehnV: thats where i derived it from yes
karakedi25: :-)
ArPharazonV: window of the west (to the west?)
karakedi25: yes
fladrifv has left the room.
karakedi25: I have a LOTR conundrum, but perhaps it can wait until next week
Eonwe Valar: Ok, now that we've figured that out, let's call the meeting here and let everyone go about their business :}
karakedi25: ok
Eonwe Valar: *Bangs Gavel*
top

Eonwe Valar: Aftermeeting :}
Eonwe Valar: We can still talk about your LotR conundrum, just now those who need to go can feel free to go.
karakedi25: nah, Varda might enjoy it, so I"ll save it
Eonwe Valar: ok
AriehnV: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtbOfIpJ4YU&feature=fvw :-) i ve been listening to gaidhlig songs like this during the hole meeting .. what better way to end a day :P)?
AriehnV: :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
ArPharazonV: allright, saving and sending transcript
