AriehnV has entered the room.
AriehnV: Aiya all :-)
Eonwe Valar: Heya Arien :}
Eonwe Valar: Oh, warning to our guild RP writers: Varda added another post :}
ArPharazonV: oh, will have to check
AriehnV: 8-)
Eonwe Valar: Let's go ahead and begin the meeting now.
top
Eonwe Valar:
Elen Sila Lumenn Omentielvo!
Eonwe Valar:
Membership:
Eonwe Valar: Varda got a letter from
Thror whom we haven't seen around in a while. Glad to know he's still kicking :}
Eonwe Valar: Speaking of
Varda, she's back :}
ArPharazonV: it was in the yahoo mail, I remember seeing it too
Eonwe Valar: Thror's letter you mean?
ArPharazonV: yeah
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, don't remember seeing it.
Eonwe Valar: In other Membership news, I upgraded my graphics card a bit.
Eonwe Valar: So far, everything works :}
ArPharazonV: oh, I've got something
ArPharazonV: member/tolkien hybrid
Eonwe Valar: Sounds interesting.
ArPharazonV: Yesterday, we got a new cat, young kitten, offspring of the cat of my uncle and aunt
ArPharazonV: and we called it Frodo!
Eonwe Valar: Hehe, congrats :}
ArPharazonV: we're not actually sure if it's male or female yet, will
see when we take it to the vet for its first shot etc... but it's
called Frodo anyway
Eonwe Valar: Any other member news?
Eonwe Valar: Hehe
ArPharazonV: not from me, that's it :P
top
Eonwe Valar: OK, on to
Web News:
AriehnV: nice one :-) grats
Eonwe Valar: Navigation improved in the Mankind/Chieftains section of the
Tolkien Site.
Eonwe Valar: In an email, Alcardilme-(T) says the website for the Radio City
concert for the Fellowship of the Ring is nearly complete. We may be seeing our own own Valar Guild banner on it as well.
Eonwe Valar: Check the news page for more links for news on the concert.

Eonwe Valar:
Gaming:
Eonwe Valar:
WoW:
Eonwe Valar: I believe I've mentioned the
Mountain Dew Game Fuel contest before?
ArPharazonV: hmm.... is that with the exclusive pet and the 2 flavors?
Eonwe Valar: Yeah
Eonwe Valar: And only for the US.
Eonwe Valar: It started Friday.
Eonwe Valar: I haven't got my fancy pet yet, so I hope they haven't skipped me, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: In *real* Gaming News, on
Lothar, my Priest is now 72 and my Druid 52.
Eonwe Valar: Elwing, Sauron, Bilbo, and all them have mostly been
working on Uldaman, probably nearing getting a third bank tab there,
heh.
ArPharazonV: 3 to go? ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Close to most likely :} We got our second one a couple weeks ago there.
AriehnV: meh i wish we could afford a fourth one
AriehnV: ;-)
Eonwe Valar: We're working on #5 on Lothar.
Eonwe Valar: :}
ArPharazonV: we're still on 3 but our guild is so empty it doesn't matter one bit
ArPharazonV: maybe if I'm bored and rich I'll get a fourth
AriehnV: :-)
Eonwe Valar: If I didn't have the goal of that real expensive mount from the Kirin Tor, we could have guild tab #6 already :}
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25: aiya
Eonwe Valar: Heya :}
Eonwe Valar: I'm nearing the amount needed for that mount though :}
karakedi25: Varda said that she and Fangorn are off to a movie so will miss the meeting
Eonwe Valar: OK, thanks :}
ArPharazonV: oh, I'm saving a bit for it too
Eonwe Valar: Hope they enjoy it :}
karakedi25: :-)
ArPharazonV: but just went over 2000 gold today so a long way to go :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: 15.6k here *cough* :}
ArPharazonV: almost!
ArPharazonV: I did get a motorbike earlier though
ArPharazonV: so it's not that surprising
Eonwe Valar: I have nothing to spend my money on but guild stuff and stuff like that, so... :}
Eonwe Valar: Oh, and repairs, but those are but a drop in the bucket most of the time :}
ArPharazonV: I spent 100g on those today.... did some wiping and
killing in Ulduar... but with about 400g made today it's not much of a
problem
Eonwe Valar: Aye, that balances out :}
Eonwe Valar: OK, think that about does it for the Lothar and Uldaman reports.
Eonwe Valar: LotRO:
ArPharazonV: hey hey,
Europe
Eonwe Valar: Turtle Run going tomorrow.
Eonwe Valar: I've been grouping that with "any other gaming news" for a while and you didn't stop me before, hehe :}
ArPharazonV: oh? never noticed...
ArPharazonV: fair enough, continue!
Eonwe Valar: Also, I did ask once, and you told me not to bother
calling for Argent Dawn reports, which is why I grouped it with "any
other gaming news."
ArPharazonV: 's that so..
ArPharazonV: my memory must be abandoning me
ArPharazonV: nevermind me then!
Eonwe Valar: Hehe
Eonwe Valar: If we do need to start calling on Argent Dawn for some
activities going on over there with guildies again, let me know :}
AriehnV: I wish ...
AriehnV: *sigh*
ArPharazonV: nah, for my small bits of news "other games" will be fine
Eonwe Valar: ok :}
ArPharazonV: unless Arien here has Valar-related activity
AriehnV: not really i fear
AriehnV: *cries|*
Eonwe Valar: If you guys on WoW can even get together for a couple of heroics, I'd call that a triumph :}
Eonwe Valar: *WoW Europe.
Eonwe Valar: Remember, it's not about whether or not we're doing
high-end raiding, it's about whether we're getting together and having
fun.
Eonwe Valar: If we just happen to be raiding at the same time, that's icing on the cake :}
Eonwe Valar: That's how I see it anyway.
AriehnV: i d see it the same way
AriehnV: :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
AriehnV: on Auchindoun news my lock Darkaria has maxed ojut as well and i really enjoy that distructive dps
Eonwe Valar: Congrats ;}
AriehnV: we are starting heroics tomorrow so keep all fingers crossed that it ll be a good experience
Eonwe Valar: Good luck :}
AriehnV: helm will be tanking
Eonwe Valar: Still can't convince Helm to drop in on AIM? :}
AriehnV: hehe not yet , unfortunately u dont know how stubborn scots are
ArPharazonV: grats Arien, good to see you found a class you like :-)
AriehnV: they saye *aye will do * and eventually they will but it might take ten yuears
Eonwe Valar: Hehe, well good luck on that too. We'd all like to meet him and perhaps discuss Tolkien :}
Eonwe Valar: hehe
AriehnV: :-)
Eonwe Valar: Ok, back to LotRO :}
ArPharazonV: well, as long as we *are* on WoW Europe... I just want to
brag about getting the rare mount Swift Zulian Tiger yesterday after a
few weeks of regularly farming Zul'gurub solo... prettiest tiger I've
ever seen
Eonwe Valar: Congrats :}
AriehnV: nice one :-)
ArPharazonV: just working on the mount from Sethekk Halls and the
raptor from Zul'gurub, but I have no doubt that with perseverance they
too will be mine!
ArPharazonV: now you may continue ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Hehe, thanks :}
LotRO:
Eonwe Valar: As I mentioned,
Turtle Run tomorrow.
Eonwe Valar:
Sign-up post already on the Forum.
Eonwe Valar: I missed my usual Monday night LotRO due to work, but I
stopped in long enough last night to test my new graphics card on full
settings :}
Eonwe Valar: We've got alot of people on there usually, so I imagine we've been getting alot done, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: Also, if I'm reading this tidbit from the news right,
Menel managed to single-handedly get us on the radar for that LotRO
contest going on, hehe :}
Eonwe Valar: There's a post on it on the forum as well, and don't
worry, we're not going to change our recruiting policy just to compete
in this thing :}
Eonwe Valar: Any LotRO news I'm missing?
Eonwe Valar: OK, then any other gaming news? Anyone place anything besides WoW or LotRO this week?
ArPharazonV: some
Gruntz, the same old puzzle game... but I just got reminded of a small bit of
general WoW news
ArPharazonV: for those of you like me who enjoy playing your druids,
and are tired of the same old forms and graphics, Blizzard has
announced this week that the next content patch will contain updated
graphics
Eonwe Valar: Darn, knew I was forgetting something, hehe.
ArPharazonV: for Tauren druids it will be tied to their skin color, which will now be changeable for all tauren I think
ArPharazonV: for Nightelf druids it will be tied to our haircolor
karakedi25: Only
LotRO thing I have to mention is that my main, Alasse, has joined the VG kinship.
WoW-general continued:
ArPharazonV: there are also plans to change Moonkin and tree-forms, but those will be in later patches
ArPharazonV: this week the new
bearforms for both races have been revealed, next week the cats will be shown
ArPharazonV: let me find the link
Eonwe Valar:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/underdev/druid-forms.html :}
ArPharazonV:
http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/underdev/druidforms.html for europe
Eonwe Valar: If there's no further gaming news or other business, we can go to Tolkien.
ArPharazonV: yep, that's it from me
ArPharazonV: don't know if the Ent has
chess-news
Eonwe Valar: Continued congrats and good luck to him if he hasn't won already then :}
AriehnV: i think he mjust still be playing he has gone a bit treeish
top
Eonwe Valar: OK,
Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: As mentioned before the meeting, Varda's added a new post to the
RP.
Eonwe Valar: So if you haven't read it yet, don't forget to :}
karakedi25: I believe I'm slated to respond to it as Meren
ArPharazonV: just did, Meren's introduction it seems :-)
Eonwe Valar: We're still missing Frali coming into the clearing.
ArPharazonV: we're still missing me too, not sure if I'll join
karakedi25: yes, that was the intention
AriehnV: aye i d been thinking about that
Eonwe Valar: We're missing Frali because Frali was already coming to
the clearing for some reason. Calion hasn't been moving that way so far
as I recall?
ArPharazonV: nope, he hasn't... but he might
ArPharazonV: still considering my post, and of course the longer I wait the more detail it will need to have
Eonwe Valar: Auros seems to attract people, hehe :}
karakedi25: it remains to be seen if he will attract Mereen ;-)
karakedi25: *Meren
Eonwe Valar: Hehe, I meant more as wherever he goes, people seem to start coming out of the woodwork (heh) to find him :}
Eonwe Valar: I mean, there he is, exercising peacefully in the middle
of nowhere, and all of a sudden he's surrounded by four Elves and a
Dwarf :}
ArPharazonV: like wolves on a scent...
Eonwe Valar: Aye, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: Any Tolkien topics, or is there anything in this we can discuss, or shall I pick one?
ArPharazonV: speaking of wolves, I could suggest the question
why the Shire appears to be the only place that has dogs, but we might run out of content pretty quick and you might know a better one
Eonwe Valar: I was going to suggest discussion of
the lands between Mirkwood and Rivendell.
ArPharazonV: works for me
Eonwe Valar: Anyone still here, or is everyone reading the RP? :}
ArPharazonV: I'm still here!
Eonwe Valar: I meant besides you and me :}
karakedi25: me
Eonwe Valar: Ok, since it seems to only be two of us, we'll do a
quick overview of the land between Mirkwood and Rivendell, for future reference in the RP, and then we'll let each of us go about our business.
Eonwe Valar: Er, three I meant.
karakedi25: :-)
ArPharazonV: Well, let's start with the general stuff: River and Mountain.
Eonwe Valar: Two besides myself, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: The
Misty Mountains are on the border of Rivendell.
ArPharazonV: dang, and I just relocated my
Hobbit book to my room again... but I'll grab the
Atlas
Eonwe Valar: The only pass near that area is the
High Pass. Anywhere else in that area is night unpassable as I recall.
ArPharazonV: O-ho, first meeting I get to browse "the atlas".. *leafs through the pages*
Eonwe Valar: The Eagles have an
Eyrie near the High Pass.
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar:
Goblintown is a bit north of the High Pass.
ArPharazonV: the Eyrie seems to be just east of Goblintown
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
ArPharazonV: if we're coming south towards the High Pass from the
Forest Gate we'll come along the eastside of
Anduin
ArPharazonV: passing
Beorn,
the Carrock, and even
Rhosgobel
AriehnV: post
ArPharazonV: will we be going along the river or the forest-edge?
Eonwe Valar: Aye, or as it seems to be that far north, the
River Langflood.
ArPharazonV: heh, yeah
ArPharazonV: when does it become the Anduin?
Eonwe Valar: Looks like south of the Old Forest Road.
ArPharazonV: could also be south of the merge with the
Rhimdath river
ArPharazonV: which means Carrock would already be Anduin
karakedi25: sorry, folks, I have to leave now--will post soon in the RP
Eonwe Valar: I'll say that under *normal* cercumstances (i.e. Auros'
plan) our destination from the Forest's Edge will probably be the
Carrock to cross at the Old Ford.
Eonwe Valar: Aw. Take care Indis.
ArPharazonV: Namarie Indis!
Eonwe Valar: We'll have to speed the business meeting back up to where it used to be, heh.
ArPharazonV: half an hour or so? :-)
AriehnV: ./
Eonwe Valar: Meeting starts at 4pm on the dot net week :} [
Note: 4pm CDT where Eonwe lives. 5pm EDT Valar time]
karakedi25: just let me know if the time changes
karakedi25: to 4 pm
AriehnV: it looks to me as if the longflood and the greylood make up
the Anduiln and after their joining it would be the Great River
Eonwe Valar: Aye, we used to get the business meeting done by 4:30.
Used to be more of a crunch then because we had more people and some of
us couldn't stick around past the bottom of the hour.
Eonwe Valar: er, 5pm
Eonwe Valar: 4pm is my time
karakedi25: ah, ok
Eonwe Valar: 5pm Eastern (Valar standard time)
AriehnV: Namarie Indis !
karakedi25: yes, I'm on Eastern
karakedi25: Namarie, Valarim
karakedi25 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Take care and see you either in LotRO or next week :}
ArPharazonV: Arien, if you mean the Greyflood, that's on the other side of the mountains :-)
AriehnV: ah lol langfood then lol i think i got the translation wrong
AriehnV: dont forget
i ve got the german version of the map
ArPharazonV: ah
AriehnV: should really get an english one
ArPharazonV: well, on my map, the Langwell and the Greylin make up the
Langflood in the north, then it joins with a river that seems to be
called Rhimdath
Eonwe Valar: I think I've convinced just about everyone get Karen Wynn Fonstad's
Atlas of ME at this point, hehe.
ArPharazonV: then there's a part that could be either Anduin or Langflood, then there's the Ford, and then it's called Anduin
ArPharazonV: yep, that's the one I've got ;-)
ArPharazonV: I love this thing, especially for conversations like this
ArPharazonV: there's something exciting about people all over the world
looking at the same map in the same book and discussing it and planning
a trip across it
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Eonwe Valar: Makes it easier when we all have the same map too :}
ArPharazonV: indeed!
AriehnV: aye i agree :-) i think i ll organize an atlas somewhere ..
AriehnV: this map i have is very unhandy
AriehnV: looks nice on the wall i think but else ...
ArPharazonV: oh, I have a huge map on the wall in my room too
ArPharazonV: bought it a few years back at some map and poster sale at the University I think
Eonwe Valar: The notes in
The Atlas of ME really helps as well. She discusses landscape and reasoning behind mountain-types, land formations, etc.
AriehnV: aye but i think at the compputer an atlas might be more useful
AriehnV: sounds good Eonwe
AriehnV: who is the author?
ArPharazonV: Karen Wynn Fonstad
Eonwe Valar: I like it, and Phar seems to like it, and I believe Menel
likes it or I made him jealous telling him about it once (which I don't
remember when exactly that was now because I've been reading old
meeting transcripts, hehe).
ArPharazonV: I got it a couple of months ago, leafed through it a few times, this is my first dedicated use of it today ;-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
AriehnV: ok noted
Eonwe Valar: If anyone does find a problem with the
Atlas though, I would be interested to know that as well as the glowing praise of it, hehe.
AriehnV: lol i ll have a look in either borders or waterstones when we are in inverness next
Eonwe Valar: It works well enough for a general idea though, at the very least.
AriehnV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Aha, now I remember, I think it was a meeting we were talking about Menel's entry into the RP.
ArPharazonV: *reads up* did she say she was leaving?
Eonwe Valar: WoW, that was a while back, hehe.
ArPharazonV: hah, indeed
ArPharazonV: we've been at it for 5 years or so?
Eonwe Valar: No, she just disappeared, so I assume it was a disconnect.
AriehnV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiyata
Eonwe Valar: Welcome back :}
AriehnV: hantal blooming heck ^^ closed wrong window agaaain
Eonwe Valar: Aye, Varda kicked us off April 27th, 2004. Probably a couple weeks of discussion on it before that.
Eonwe Valar: *couple of Sundays, more specifically.
Eonwe Valar: Hehe, happens.
ArPharazonV: were we still in bnet?
ArPharazonV: I know I joined when the meetings were on battle.net and that was about half a year earlier
Eonwe Valar: No, don't think so.
Eonwe Valar: No, by that time we were using AIM.
Eonwe Valar: OK, so we have a river and a mountain range to get through.
ArPharazonV: yep
Eonwe Valar: It took Auros roughly a full day's ride from Carrock to the forest gate.
Eonwe Valar: For whatever reason it did :}
ArPharazonV: seems about 100 miles to the Ford from the gate
ArPharazonV: two-thirds of which lead to the carrock... how fast does your horse go again? :-)
Eonwe Valar: my estimations for that trip are in the discussion thread :}
Eonwe Valar: My poor excuses are there too :}
ArPharazonV: hmm
ArPharazonV: a big thread ;-)
Eonwe Valar: it'd be among the first posts I made :}
Eonwe Valar: Aha, Elatan gave the numbers, I gave the excuses, hehe.
ArPharazonV: 100 and 70 miles, I was right!
Eonwe Valar: 70 miles from the Carrack is what I estimated, 100 miles above the Old Forest Road.
Eonwe Valar: So yeah :}
ArPharazonV: "But, er, well, the land wasn't even, and, um, I didn't go as the crow flies"
ArPharazonV: nice excuses
Eonwe Valar: I could also throw in there that my horse probably couldn't have gone 35mph for 2.5 hours straight.
ArPharazonV: hmhm
Eonwe Valar: 35mph being near tops speed for a standard horse.
ArPharazonV: yours would hardly be a standard horse
Eonwe Valar: Elf-horse, aye
Eonwe Valar: Born and bred in Rivendell.
Eonwe Valar: Or in the area.
ArPharazonV: *nod*
ArPharazonV: were you really in a hurry to go at top speed though?
ArPharazonV: sure, you had to meet people...
Eonwe Valar: Well, I based my estimations on it at the time, but I
didn't seem to havepainted myself in a corner by actually naming speeds
in the RP.
Eonwe Valar: And since I started out in the morning and showed up after
dusk, I had to have been doing something besides just riding straight
for the Forest Gate.
ArPharazonV: checking the sights, talking to Beorn, bathing in the river...
Eonwe Valar: Albeit, my declared and apparent goal was to get to the Forest Gate that day.
Eonwe Valar: So, barring your ambush happening between the Forest Gate
and teh Carrock, that would be Auros' goal on the way back.
Eonwe Valar: *the Carrock
AriehnV: Right dear Valarites i guess i have to go Westering home .. early start
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well Arien :}
AriehnV: i shall read what u diss in the script :-)
ArPharazonV: namarie Arien
AriehnV: and look forward to your posts
AriehnV: Namarie
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiya Varda!
VardaValar1: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: Unfortunately my foresight is mostly showing me scenes in Rivendell at this point :}
Eonwe Valar: Heya Vard a:}
Eonwe Valar: I guess I should bang the gavel since it seems to just be me and Phar at this point, but it was Tolkien chat :}
VardaValar1: Fast recap?
Eonwe Valar: Not saying we need to start chatting, Phar, just trying to
make sure there's an official gavel-banging moment in here somewhere :}
ArPharazonV: RP, Mirkwood - Rivendell, obstacles, distances, goals,
Atlas
Eonwe Valar: *start = stop, bah.
VardaValar1: Thanks :-)
ArPharazonV: Assuming Carrock - Ford - High Pass - Rivendell as the default plan at least
ArPharazonV: that a good recap?
Eonwe Valar: Aye, our official discussion for Tolkien chat was the
lands between Rivendell and Mirkwood, obviously for future reference in
the RP>
Eonwe Valar: Sounds like a good one.
VardaValar1: Useful, good Tolkien stuff.
Eonwe Valar: That's essentially Auros' travel plan. Not accounting for anything drastic happening along the way.
VardaValar1: Good to have a plan. Only so many ways we can go and actually make it.
VardaValar1: I'll check, but did anyone else post after mine?
Eonwe Valar: Arien just did.
Eonwe Valar: I was mostly waiting for Arien's next post since mine and Menel's joint post left off with a reference to Frali.
Eonwe Valar: Deciding if I can slide a post in between Arien's and Indis' debut.
VardaValar1: I just read Arien's.
luthienathariel has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: I've got a vision of how some things are to go in
Rivendell, but "I do not see the road between" to paraphrase,.. Elrond
I believe it was.
VardaValar1: True, it did. I think mine was ok as an "at the same time" post.
VardaValar1: Suilad, Luthien!
Eonwe Valar: Heya Luthien :}
luthienathariel: suilad :-)
ArPharazonV: hey Luth
ArPharazonV: I hear Fladrif's been setting you up with Monkey Island?
luthienathariel: hey
VardaValar1: We should be bumping into Calaron's surprise party with
uninvited intelligent spider guests on the way out of Mirkwood.
luthienathariel: no
VardaValar1: Get with it, Flad! :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
FladrifV: Thought to show a different type of games
FladrifV: dont know if it yet has been tested though :-)
VardaValar1: Hah! Posted again.
Eonwe Valar: Ok, so as I see it in the last few RP posts:
Eonwe Valar: Frali tiptoeing, Varda watchign from the trees with another guard, Auros and Estarion in the clearing..
ArPharazonV: Calion somewhere at the Halls last we saw him, but he
might make an appearance if I can find a reason for him to do so
Eonwe Valar: Auros notices something coming, turns his attention, finds that it's Frali...
VardaValar1: Frali walks into the clearing and speaks.
VardaValar1: Meren is approaching and Fainan drops in.
Eonwe Valar: Fainan about that time comes down from the trees to greet Meren, Frali startled, then addresses Auros...
Eonwe Valar: It should probably be assumed Frali came at least somewhat
into the clearing, close enough to adress Auros well enough, but no so
far as to not also be able to adress Fainan.
Eonwe Valar: *address
Eonwe Valar: The clearing is big enough to spar in, after all :}
VardaValar1: Aye, just at the edge.
Eonwe Valar: Auros might've closed the distance as well as Frali came forward.
VardaValar1: True
Eonwe Valar: But he would've stayed where he was until Frali did.
VardaValar1: Funny thing is that earlier I had assumed Estarion was
with us, just quiet. Interesting that he gets re-introduced kind of.
Eonwe Valar: Hehe, aye. Menel's choice :}
VardaValar1: Makes an interesting bit. : )
ArPharazonV: hmm, I thought the same... maybe he's so quiet that we didn't even notice him gone ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Our start from Erebor can go either way.
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Auros was irate at the late gathering, at such a late time may have decided Estarion was not going to show up.
Eonwe Valar: After all, Auros has obviously made no secret of his
mission being his top priority, not sitting around waiting for
stragglers :}
Eonwe Valar: There was enough flexibility, in any case, for Menel to have chosen either path.
VardaValar1: There Auros is, peacefully trying to think whilst exercising a bit, and we all pop up. : )
VardaValar1: Aye.
Eonwe Valar: Hehe :}
Eonwe Valar: I mae a similar observation, Varda :}
Eonwe Valar: *made
ArPharazonV: would be interesting just to sit back and relaxing and
seeing you all come back, saying "And what have you all been up to?"
VardaValar1: "Sneaking, Precious."
ArPharazonV: hehe
VardaValar1: MrMonkey2002Blah: /wave
Eonwe Valar: Heya to Bombur :}
ArPharazonV: why not invite him!
VardaValar1: So you two are about to put something into the rp next?
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, thought he was.
VardaValar1: Should I hang around and watch?
VardaValar1: I did. ;-)
ArPharazonV: oh, I might just not post until you've come back from the
clearing, and if I'm gonna post it's likely not during this meeting
VardaValar1: Oh, Calion noticed the elvish arrow, and stated that he would go with Auros.
ArPharazonV: I did, but I mean, I might not be going to the clearing where you all are now
Eonwe Valar: I'm only coming up with a very simple post right now to follow Frali's words.
VardaValar1: Calion knows it's Calaron's.
ArPharazonV: you didn't realise that? :-)
Eonwe Valar: Which might not be that bad.
VardaValar1: Sure, we're recapping.
Eonwe Valar: Referring to my previous comment.
VardaValar1: Would Fainan know it was Calaron's arrow?
ArPharazonV: don't know, unless she's an expert in recognizing arrow marks
ArPharazonV: I mean, he's Calion's brother, Calion would know
VardaValar1: She is, but probably didn't see it.
VardaValar1: The one thing Fainan really knows is archery.
Eonwe Valar: If the mark was distinctive to a person or house, say a
family crest, I would assume the family crest would be know outside of
the family due to standards held aloft in battle, for example.
Eonwe Valar: *known
ArPharazonV: well yes, but recognizing the marks of families and
individuals... that's more heraldry (I think that's the term) than
archery
VardaValar1: Not too many standards held aloft in Mirkwood battles, I'd guess.
ArPharazonV: very true, Varda :-)
Eonwe Valar: True, more stealth tactics within Mirkwood itself, but I imagine there were some in the Battle of Five Armies.
VardaValar1: If it id's an arrow, it's archery. Surely have my own
mark. And that's a major family. But Fainan probably didn't see it.
Calion had to ask to see it.
VardaValar1: Fainan wasn't around for that, mere chile. :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Well, that's another question for you to consider Varda:
Eonwe Valar: If Mirkwood did march to war, under whose standard would Fainan be marching? :}
VardaValar1: Not born. She'd march with Thranduil if possible.
VardaValar1: If he details her to another group, she'd go there.
Eonwe Valar: Well, all of Mirkwood would march under Thandruil's Flag,
but assuming a more or less feudal system, each lord would be fielding
an army.
VardaValar1: Aye, and there would not be many lords.
VardaValar1: Get tricky if I march for the House of Pharion.
Eonwe Valar: Unless your family is directly tied to Thranduil...
Eonwe Valar: Thranduil might field a personal army as well. Gotta keep them lords in line somehow :}
VardaValar1: I'd rather not have Fainan feel she has to answer to Calion.
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: In the books, Thranduil goes out to battle himself.
Eonwe Valar: Pardon, that was not the intent of my posing the question.
VardaValar1: I am just thinking aloud, so to speak.
VardaValar1: Thinking a-type?
Eonwe Valar: As am I :} Wasn't aiming for an idea that Fainan would be directly answerable to Calion.
Eonwe Valar: *As am I = I am thinking aloud as well.
VardaValar1: That would be undesirable, I think. So the question of
"which lord" is one I don't know. She is fascinated by the Sindarins.
VardaValar1: Anyway, if Calion shows up, we can take off from the clearing.
Eonwe Valar: It would also be much rougher for Calion when Auros thrusts Fainan into the leading role :}
VardaValar1: So we need a pretext for him to come.
VardaValar1: Oboy, hehe
VardaValar1: She would have deferred or at least asked first if it was alright with Calion.
ArPharazonV: why would you wait for Calion to get to the clearing
anyway? you might return on your own while I have business elsewhere
and I'll catch you when you return
VardaValar1: I would like for Calion to be so disturbed by what he has
learned that he does go and tell Auros that he's definitely coming.
ArPharazonV: I mean, you're off in the forest in the middle of nowhere,
what's the logic behind everyone converging on the clearing? ;-)
VardaValar1: We don't have to return. We can leave directly.
VardaValar1: Not the clearing, but on Auros.
Eonwe Valar: I thought we already established both Fainan and Calion were coming?
ArPharazonV: you all have your horses with you? weren't we supposed to hold out a night?
VardaValar1: Yes, we did. But Auros had left by the time Calion said so.
VardaValar1: We would need to go back for the horses, aye.
Eonwe Valar: We are holding out the night, or Auros would've left Thranduil;'s court to go prepare to leave, hehe.
VardaValar1: They would probably be within the walls, but outside the Halls.
VardaValar1: All of us are pretty stout types and jazzed. We might feel like taking off.
Eonwe Valar: Hehe
VardaValar1: Probably safer to wait til daylight though.
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
ArPharazonV: *nod* try and make it as far as possible on the first day
Eonwe Valar: Leave it to Auros to rain on their parades,.. or crush their enthusiasm.. :}
VardaValar1: Ok, so we have a post saying "The next day..."
ArPharazonV: a little animation of a sped up sunset and -rise....
VardaValar1: Fainan the nearly irrepressible? : )
VardaValar1: Arien says "Giddyap!"
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Well, I've briefly mentioned this before a while back, but this is how I see it happening in Rivendell.
Eonwe Valar: (Without too many spoilers)
VardaValar1: Ohh, never been to Rivendell! *Wanders around looking at everything like a tourist."
Eonwe Valar: Auros finds his reason to go to Angmar, everyone else has
there reasons. Calion more or less decides he's had enough of Auros,
they argue, (delete spoiler), Auros puts forth Fainan, turns out for
whatever reason that's something both Auros and Calion can agree on.
VardaValar1: oy
VardaValar1: So I put Frali in charge...
Eonwe Valar: lol
ArPharazonV: *grin* looking to spice things up?
VardaValar1: Red pepper, that's my thing.
ArPharazonV: I meant Eonwe :-)
Eonwe Valar: Well, my original plan a few years ago was to put Fainan
in the lead since this was originally based on LotRO to a greater
extent :}
VardaValar1: No need. We're making it up and it doesn't much sound like LotRO anyhow. : )
ArPharazonV: after all we've been through it has to be an odd reason for me to disobey you now, though...
Eonwe Valar: True.
Eonwe Valar: I figured I better re-mention it to get fresh perspectives from you two at this point.
VardaValar1: Mostly we all have the same main goal.
VardaValar1: It's easy to "order" people to do what they were going to do anyway.
Eonwe Valar: I figured that since there's already tension between Auros
and Calion, Calion might not be so inclined to follow Auros once it's
no longer *just* about Auros' mission.
ArPharazonV: we're mostly going to Angmar to find this staff-thingy but
we each have our own reason to go... I'm not sure if we'll keep these
reasons private or share them
ArPharazonV: hey, as long as you're taking me where I want to go...
VardaValar1: Fainan has no particular secrets and would probably blurt them out if she had any. : )
Eonwe Valar: :}
ArPharazonV: if our reasons were to conflict, now, then we might have a problem
ArPharazonV: I want to go to the northeast of Angmar, you to the
Northwest, we disagree, Fainan says "Let's go straight north" that kind
of situation
VardaValar1: Narrow trail, all roads lead the same way, safety in numbers, good fighters.
Eonwe Valar: The "staff-thingy" in strict sense is a "Mirkwood concern", until it's obvious it's spreading beyond those borders.
ArPharazonV: the air doesn't smell so bad this way *nod*
VardaValar1: Aye! Smack dab through the middle!
Eonwe Valar: So Auros needs reasons beyond that.
Eonwe Valar: From his perspective, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: And he'll have them.
ArPharazonV: well yes, but unless your reasons conflict with ours/mine, I wouldn't argue with you about that
VardaValar1: Today Mirkwood, tomorrow we have a big base in the middle of everything else.
ArPharazonV: so you want us to argue? it's mostly up to you to make it happen :-)
Eonwe Valar: Hehe
Eonwe Valar: I thought we'd already argued at least once :}
ArPharazonV: well, yes
Eonwe Valar: *we* being Auros/Calion of course :}
VardaValar1: We could argue with the bad guys.
ArPharazonV: but as I said, this has to be something rather special
ArPharazonV: arguing or not, I've been following orders nonetheless,
out of respect to Thranduil, my family, and my honor, more than to you
VardaValar1: Might want Auros to tell us what he wants to do in Angmar,
since the rest of us think we're after the staff of unlight.
ArPharazonV: maybe the fact that it's no longer a mission concentrated around you might set me off, but otherwise...
VardaValar1: Our party gets into the habit of Auros being leader.
ArPharazonV: indeed... I've been putting up with it for so long, as
long as our destinations agree, I don't see much reason to change it
VardaValar1: We will put in our two cents though. : )
Eonwe Valar: The rest of you might well be after the staff of unlight,
but Auros' has made it clear his concern is his mission, and beyond
that he'll deliver whatever messages Thranduil wants.
ArPharazonV: but then again, I've mellowed up myself... and I've always
been bad at setting down distinct character personalities... so Calion
will follow the same trend
Eonwe Valar: hehe
ArPharazonV: might be inconsistent with the story, but...
VardaValar1: No problem, we will be going to Rivendell first, study up a bit on the subject, then slip up to Angmar quietly.
Eonwe Valar: My last statement before the "hehe" coming from Auros' perspective.
ArPharazonV: I guess this is why it's a good idea to set down distinct characters from the start
VardaValar1: Calion is very into the natural world and somewhat into politics. Calaron is very into his patrol duties?
Eonwe Valar: I kinda figured a guy who struts around Thranduil's court would be more used to having things his way, hehe :}
ArPharazonV: well, what Calaron is now, is representing my own dark side a bit..
ArPharazonV: a guy who struts around Thranduil's court knows how to follow orders and keep his mouth shut when it matters :-)
VardaValar1: We all draw on various parts of our personalities and of those we see around us, including in the media.
ArPharazonV: there's bigger things at stake here
VardaValar1: Mirkwood elves are all used to having to work to keep
their people alive. Had to move before, strategic withdrawal, not
wanting or able to move back much farther.
VardaValar1: Not a group protected by a Ring, but by their own abilities and teamwork.
ArPharazonV: Fainan, Calion and Calaron have all had some experience in combat and know when to serve their country
VardaValar1: Aye.
ArPharazonV: Calion may dislike Auros, but when it comes to Mirkwood's
interests he's not going to step away from a mission or make a fuss
over it
VardaValar1: If it appears that Auros is going counter to Mirkwood's
survival, he'll run into stiff resistance from most of the group.
ArPharazonV: an alternative may be that if Auros has no reason to go
yet, and initially refuses to go or something, it might cause an
argument... and then he learns his reasons, comes back, we agree to put
Fainan in charge and we head off....
VardaValar1: Why would we put Fainan in charge? Auros or Calion are both lordly types, she's not at all.
ArPharazonV: we've shown that things can heat up between us... you're the one who's friendliest with all of us :-)
VardaValar1: If he didn't want to go, I'd probably be sad, but take off with whoever wanted to go.
ArPharazonV: when it comes to a small group of close companions, you might be the best leader we have
VardaValar1: Could be a sort of group move too. : )
VardaValar1: Whoever's in front at the moment looks like a leader.
Eonwe Valar: My original intentions of this outside the story being
because at the time the story was supposed to be us *heading into*
LotRO.
VardaValar1: That's right.
Eonwe Valar: Since Varda/Fainan is our leading lady there, trying to find a way to thrust her to the forefront was fun, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: *forefront in the story.
VardaValar1: It would probably end when LotRO really got started. But it took on a life of its own.
Eonwe Valar: Inside the story? Generally speaking, there aren't terribly many good reasons Perhaps.
Eonwe Valar: Not saying there aren't *any*.
Eonwe Valar: I think the butting egos of Auros and Calion might've been a good one.
VardaValar1: Since Fainan strongly intends to go after the staff and
help Mirkwood that way, she will, no matter what else is going on.
VardaValar1: Aye, that makes for fun conflict of a light nature.
VardaValar1: Fainan may even find it amusing, a dangerous situation. ;-)
ArPharazonV: well, if Calion and Auros are fighting about it while
Fainan leaves, we might follow you quietly while grumbling to each other
VardaValar1: Right, that sort of thing.
Eonwe Valar: You'll get to learn why Auros gets to be such a typical
Noldo around the Rivendell time as well (You the reader, not you the
characters though :})
ArPharazonV: as long as you're not pulling our ears and making us apologize... ;-)
VardaValar1: Fainan is not a complicated person and will head directly at something.
VardaValar1: Meren might do that, but not so much Fainan.
Eonwe Valar: That wouldn't help with Auros, hehe.
luthienathariel has left the room.
VardaValar1: More characterization would be a good thing.
VardaValar1: Oops, sorry Luthien. We really weren't talking Tolkien.
Eonwe Valar: And of course by "typical Noldo" I mean why he gets to act so arrogant :}
VardaValar1: I may be about to lose power. Fangorn is starting to pull some plugs in the other room.
Eonwe Valar: Yikes.
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: eep
VardaValar1: The battery keeps the comp up long enough to let you know if something weird is happening.
VardaValar1: Ok, I want to read your posts.
VardaValar1: Frali and Fainan both have posts. I was expecting Meren's tonight, but it doesn't seem to have happened.
Eonwe Valar: Think she said she'll post hers during the week.
ArPharazonV: well, if you're returning to the clearing and staying the
night, I might go say hi to the folks and ask whether they've heard
anything from their other son, then come to meet you as you come back
and say "You weren't planning to leave without me were you?"
Eonwe Valar: I'll be reconsidering some aspects of the Rivendell section obviously.
VardaValar1: "Why yes, yes we were. Were you coming?"
ArPharazonV: "Sure, what would you do without me, eh?"
VardaValar1: "Be able to move quietly?" ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Hehe
VardaValar1: "What would a lord know of stealth?" *poke poke*
ArPharazonV: *Elvish* "More than a dwarf, no doubt...."
VardaValar1: oops : )
VardaValar1: Hard to really hide. One road, narrow, enchanted.
Eonwe Valar: And 4-5 horses :}
VardaValar1: Could wrap their hooves in cloth?
ArPharazonV: Just so I don't get confused... how many in our party now? 6?
Eonwe Valar: Auros, Fainan, Frali, Estarion, Calion, and Meren.
Eonwe Valar: Looks like 6, aye.
VardaValar1: Auros, Calion, Estarion, Frali, Meren, Fainan
ArPharazonV: you know, I bet any psychologist would have a few words to say about the order in which you each wrote the names...
VardaValar1: Probably. : )
VardaValar1: I tend to go alphabetically, usually putting my V name last.
ArPharazonV: Fainan's not a V though ;-)
VardaValar1: Aye.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
ArPharazonV: but let's leave this tangent... how are we travelling again?
VardaValar1: oboy, there goes Eonwe
VardaValar1: By horse.
ArPharazonV: the 3 of us are on horses... I suppose Meren has a horse
ArPharazonV: how's Frali coming?
VardaValar1: She would have a nice horse.
VardaValar1: We should check. Might be riding double with the lightest?
ArPharazonV: and Estarion?
VardaValar1: Shove him up on a horse. He's an elf, he can figure out how to balance.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Er,.. let me try that again...
VardaValar1: Aiyata!
VardaValar1: You made it back!
Eonwe Valar: Frali Frali is riding a pony.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
VardaValar1: Wasn't it too slow?
ArPharazonV: *visiting Thranduil* Yeah, so, the Avari is back... can we give him a horse?"
VardaValar1: So he was going to ride double on a horse with a light one?
Eonwe Valar: From Auros' perspective, yes.
Eonwe Valar: From the perspective that we need to kill some time, the pony is plenty fast :}
VardaValar1: Fainan and Meren will fight to let Frali on their own horse!
ArPharazonV: maybe he'll end up with Estarion then :-)
VardaValar1: We can have run-ins with spiders, orcs, Calaron's crew.
VardaValar1: lol
VardaValar1: The girls all want to be considered lightest.
VardaValar1: Estarion will be clinging to his horse already.
VardaValar1: If he's not used to riding, he may be nervous about taking on a passenger.
Eonwe Valar: hehe
VardaValar1: We can stop in for a time at the Carrock or be sent
hastily on our way or try to go around and not bother the Beornings?
ArPharazonV: I hope to have re-read the
Hobbit by then... maybe have some more information about Beorn
ArPharazonV: was there something about.... honey?
VardaValar1: at least we can go over that section.
VardaValar1: and honey-cakes!
VardaValar1: Were-bears plus honey...
ArPharazonV: hmmm
VardaValar1: And animals are not for burdens.
VardaValar1: Maybe we should walk our horses? : )
Eonwe Valar: We don't necessarily have to follow the outlined travel
plan of Forest Gate to Carrock to High Pass. That's just Auros' planned
route. If we have a reason to try some other way, we can go that way
with ample enemy prompting, hehe.
VardaValar1: One question is whether we'd want to stop in and see the Beornings or try to bypass them.
VardaValar1: There are also "wild men" in the area, eventually to hold land.
ArPharazonV: bypassing them would be faster then if we'd need to walk our horses :-)
VardaValar1: Power going on and off.
ArPharazonV: eep
VardaValar1: Hitting breakers
VardaValar1: A shy dwarf is an interesting change to the stereotype.
Eonwe Valar: He's young yet. Give him a few years :}
VardaValar1: We do seem to be getting along with dwarves awfully well.
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: We may be kinder to Frali than we might otherwise due to his manner and youth.
Eonwe Valar: Noldor have a reason to: their mutual respect for
Aulë. Noldor and Dwarves have got along famously in the past,...
well unless you ocunt that whole Caranthir thing in the First Age.
Eonwe Valar: *count
VardaValar1: We got along rather well with Haran too.
VardaValar1: Details...
VardaValar1: Sindar and therefore Silvans who care about them might be
peeved about their killing Thingol over a necklace and shiny rocks.
ArPharazonV: I'm sure the hostility between Mirkwood and Dwarves has been lessened a bit since the Battle of the 5
Eonwe Valar: Aye. They seem to ahave at least a trade relationship.
ArPharazonV: at least for a while
VardaValar1: True, Eonwe.
Eonwe Valar: *to have, bah, typing to fast again, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: ..
VardaValar1: We fleece you, you fleece us? : )
VardaValar1: But aye, Thranduil softened up a lot towards the dwarves.
ArPharazonV: the Silvan families might still have a grudge... though
our families might not be that aware of the whole Thingol-situation
VardaValar1: Makes it odder that JRRT had the elf and dwarf arguing because they were elf and dwarf in the Fellowship.
VardaValar1: Recent history taught to Silvans in classes.
Eonwe Valar: Battle of Five Armies was what,.. 50ish years ago?
ArPharazonV: it wouldn't affect Estarion in any case
ArPharazonV: short time for an elf, Eonwe :-)
VardaValar1: 50 years ago is nothing.
Eonwe Valar: Peace and trade done always mean a complete end to animosity.
Eonwe Valar: *done = doesn't
VardaValar1: Trade makes for a much better relationship. Don't want to kill the one you're making a living off of.
Eonwe Valar: The relatively short time span was the point :}
karakedi25 has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: welcome back Meren
karakedi25: back!
VardaValar1: Aiyata, Indis. : )
Eonwe Valar: Dwarves are also less inclined to forgive and forget quickly.
Eonwe Valar: Welcome back Indis :}
karakedi25: aiya, Valarim
karakedi25: don't let me stop your discussion :-)
Eonwe Valar: We're talking about the RP :}
karakedi25: yes, a topic of great interest!
VardaValar1: The most recent discussion was that Thranduil and Thorin
cut back on the elf and dwarf animosity recently at the Battle of Five
Armies (about 50 years ago).
VardaValar1: Thus we don't lop the heads off of Haran or Frali. : )
karakedi25: :-)
ArPharazonV: you also have to wonder, really, how far the old grudge between Elves and Dwarves has spread
karakedi25: there was less of it with the Noldor, of course...
ArPharazonV: sure, recent education to the Silvans by the Sindarin nobles will have brought the tale of Thingol with them..
karakedi25: and more with the Sindar because of Doriath
ArPharazonV: but the Silvans themselves?
karakedi25: yes, though of course the Silvans have a long history of their own relations with Erebor
ArPharazonV: yes, which might well have been a good one
VardaValar1: The Silvans had a batch of Dwarves come through about 50 years ago disrupting their feasts! : )
karakedi25: Thranduil is a Sinda, so hostile...
karakedi25: and a burglar
VardaValar1: until after the Battle of Five Armies.
ArPharazonV: Thranduil's hostility was probably the reason the dwarves were locked up
ArPharazonV: I doubt the Silvans cared very much
karakedi25: that seems likely
VardaValar1: The dwarves also weren't very forthcoming about why they were in his woods.
ArPharazonV: true
karakedi25: the Silvans had their own experiences with the dwarves
separate from the Sindar, and I'd assume they carried on trade with them
Eonwe Valar: For obvious reasons... "We're on our way to reclaim our treasure!" :}
VardaValar1: "Come on through, for a percentage!"
Eonwe Valar: The Dwarves would've left Thranduil's Halls with a hotel bill :}
ArPharazonV: "Oh, sure, we'll give you some food and provisions and let you be on your way.... we don't want any part of it!"
karakedi25: Just as the dwarves would have charged a hefty price for their workmanship and raw materials.
VardaValar1: Thranduil knew they were holding back.
VardaValar1: Like the conversation between the elf and dwarf npc at Gondamon.
karakedi25: Another thing to consider is that Tolkien's view of the elves almost certainly shifted between the
Hobbit and
LOTR
VardaValar1: A lot of changes happened between, true.
karakedi25: so his Thranduil might well have behaved differently if the story had been written later (and for adults)
Eonwe Valar: You'll probably not catch Auros singing "tra-la-la-lally" :}
VardaValar1: One thing that LotRO and fan fic writers tend to miss is that the elves were merry as well as sad.
karakedi25: not a chance!
VardaValar1: hehe - aye, Eonwe.
karakedi25: oh yes
ArPharazonV: aww, maybe if we get him drunk
karakedi25: do elves really get drunk (unless they want to)?
VardaValar1: "Have some more Dorwinion, Auros!"
Eonwe Valar: In the
Hobbit they did.
VardaValar1: Aye, in the
Hobbit.
karakedi25: Yes, but in later books, they seem to have far more control of their bodies
VardaValar1: Right, there's a general shift to greater dignity.
Eonwe Valar: They probably could get drunk, but are less inclined to want to do so.
karakedi25: so what's in the
Hobbit would seem to me to be somewhat less canonical than
LOTR,
Silmarillion, or
UT etc.
VardaValar1: Also, over a long period of living, they should have developed some immunity.
karakedi25: I can imagine that they could get drunk if they wanted to
VardaValar1: Let's not get too carried away. : )
Eonwe Valar: It's probably more common in "younger" Elves.
VardaValar1: *Fainan looks up from her drink*. "Eh?"
karakedi25: So we'll get Fainan and Calion drunk? ;0
Eonwe Valar: In the early days of the Elves, their body was more like humanity's.
VardaValar1: The fea begins to burn through, after a fashion, over time.
Eonwe Valar: As they get older and the many ages wear on, their bodies become more a memory of thir fëa.
Eonwe Valar: *their
ArPharazonV: I doubt Auros will be gotten drunk very easy... especially to the point to sing tra-la-la-lally
karakedi25: Yes, I'm listening to the
Silmarillion on audio books in my car, and I am at the story of Turin. He seems comparable in strength to the elves there.
VardaValar1: He was raised by elves too.
karakedi25: Yes, in Doriath, after what was it--13?
Eonwe Valar: So life in Aman is actually better, helping retain the
youth and vigor of the body to match the longevity of the fëa.
ArPharazonV: 11 rings a bell
VardaValar1: Enough so that Turin had a lot of training with elves.
Eonwe Valar: Better for Elves that is.
karakedi25: So that's an indication that elves and the Edain were not so different in body.
VardaValar1: That seems to have been inconsistent with some other parts, but it did look that way in that story.
Eonwe Valar: That's comparing Sindar, who did not live in Aman under
the light of the Two Trees, to a mortal who was coming into his prime.
karakedi25: Indeed, but I noticed that especially as I was listening.
And there are other things in the stories of Beleriand that suggest
more equality of strength
VardaValar1: Aragorn appeared much like a young elf lord, after Galadriel had him dressed up and pushed towards Arwen.
karakedi25: *wink*
Eonwe Valar: never hurts to have the woman's grandmother on your side, hehe.
karakedi25: especially if she's Galadriel
VardaValar1: The story did change over time, as in dropping mechanical
dragons, and the total number of balrogs dropped to seven.
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
karakedi25: Yes, it did...
karakedi25: and of course the Edain were exceptional in any case
ArPharazonV: and yet some things remained
ArPharazonV: whether they were meant to, who can say?
Eonwe Valar: Balrogs also got a promotion at that time too.
VardaValar1: Those seven balrogs would have been much more formidable than the ones in Gondolin.
VardaValar1: I would've loved to have read JRRT's rewrites. : )
ArPharazonV: perhaps they would have been replaced by Trolls or the like
VardaValar1: Quite likely.
VardaValar1: That would have fit better.
karakedi25: Yes, and we know the
Sil is Christopher's best attempt to bring order to his father's many drafts
VardaValar1: Although at first the elves thought balrogs couldn't be killed, and when they saw that they could, they took heart.
VardaValar1: A really tough job!
karakedi25: Yes, not one for an ordinary Quende.
VardaValar1: /salute to Christopher Tolkien
karakedi25: Absolutely!
VardaValar1: We kind of fell off the rp topic. : )
VardaValar1: I'm going to check on what they're doing with the power, brb.
Eonwe Valar: I've been working on my RP post :}
karakedi25: OK, I need to do the same soon.
karakedi25: Glad it's reviving.
Eonwe Valar: It's like a pheonix :}
Eonwe Valar: We get a good several posts in, then we drop off for a bit :}
Eonwe Valar: We never actually give up on it though :}
karakedi25: Eonwe, I assume you've already seen what I plan to post,
with adjustments for Fainan's post and any others that show up before I
put mine up.
Eonwe Valar: I've seen it, and plan to look over it again. Was mulling it over.
karakedi25: I'm taking out the portions that indicate your reactions. I
think it would be best for you to read Thranduil's letter, and it's
sealed, and Meren would not know what's in it for sure.
Eonwe Valar: ok
VardaValar1: I'm going to let you guys post when ready, and slip out now. :-)
Eonwe Valar: Take care Varda :}
Eonwe Valar: Am I creating the contents of the letter?
VardaValar1: You may see my one-line bits added in.
Eonwe Valar: I saw it :}
VardaValar1: Namarie for now!
karakedi25: ok, hope your power is up
Eonwe Valar: have fun :}
ArPharazonV: Namarie Varda :-)
karakedi25: Namarie
VardaValar1: np, it was the breakers going off while putting in power outlets.
karakedi25: Unless you'd like to use what I drafted in my first version, which I attached to my message to you
VardaValar1: All is good. And the comp is on a battery.
karakedi25: excellent
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, missed that. I'll make sure to look at it closer the next time around.
karakedi25: THe current draft is in the body of the message. The text of the message is in the attachment.
Eonwe Valar: Ah, that's why I missed it.
VardaValar1 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: hmm, a private message on a forum where I'm called ArPharazon, telling me that he recognizes the name from the
Silmarillion as one of the Kings of Numenor...
Eonwe Valar: Cool :}
ArPharazonV: it's cute, but it gives rise to the thought... "And you thought I didn't know?" ;-)
karakedi25: :-)
karakedi25: maybe just an attempt to make contact
Eonwe Valar: Hehe. I think he's trying to show you he knows :}
ArPharazonV: I noticed your name is from
The Silmarilion. Nice :-) Ar-Pharazon was one of the Kings of Numenor.
ArPharazonV: the way he writes that last sentence it's really like he's informing me of the fact
Eonwe Valar: True, it does sound like that.
ArPharazonV: maybe I'm just reading too much into it....
karakedi25: yes, you're right. It does seem as if he's informing you.
Eonwe Valar: It sounds like that, but I would attribute that to his style of trying to tell you he knows.
ArPharazonV: indeed :-)
karakedi25: Im rather surprised that LotRO let you use that name.
Eonwe Valar: A proper gloating of being "The Golden" or some such sounds in order, hehe.
ArPharazonV: I'm not using it in LotRO
karakedi25: Ah, then he may be trying to make contact as a person who knows about Tolkien but is kind of clumsy.
ArPharazonV: I've never heard of him before though... and I didn't notice the message until now, but it's 2 weeks old....
ArPharazonV: bit too late to say something back I guess
Eonwe Valar: Hmm,.. Two weeks is boderline.
karakedi25: not really--just apologize for getting the message late
Eonwe Valar: *borderline
ArPharazonV: besides, the forum itself is practically dead
ArPharazonV: might get away with saying I haven't been on the forum in a while
Eonwe Valar: If it were a month or more, he's probably moved on. Two
weeks and there's a chance he'll still remember that he sent that to
you in the first place :}
ArPharazonV: hehe
karakedi25: oh this was on the VG forum? Yes, the forum seems rather dead
ArPharazonV: no, it was another forum, about Warcraft 3 in this case
ArPharazonV: the warcraftiii.net forum, used to be pretty big when
Warcraft 3 was under production and for several years after its release
ArPharazonV: the sections I usually frequent are nearly dead though... a shame
Eonwe Valar: There, posted a reply to Frali.
Eonwe Valar: Not a big one, but it didn't need a big reply, hehe.
karakedi25: OK. I also need to post mine. It's ready.
Eonwe Valar: You caught the redundant sentence fragment?
karakedi25: yes, I did, and I've made a few other fixes
Eonwe Valar: ok
Eonwe Valar: I won't bore you with those then.
karakedi25: if they're still there, please let me know. I've posted it now.
karakedi25: there's a bit of a disconnect between Fainan's greeting to
Meren and her interaction with Frali, as if Meren weren't there.
Eonwe Valar: Did you account for Arien's/Frali's and Varda's/Fainana's posts?
karakedi25: I accounted for Varda's ... I'll put in a nod to Frali.
Eonwe Valar: ok. reading your part now as it is on the forum.
karakedi25: Just added a bit to Frali.
karakedi25: one more minor change at the end--suggest you refresh
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, you know that from previous accounts, you're on the edge of the clearing, right?
karakedi25: yes
Eonwe Valar: ok.
karakedi25: fixed the reference
Eonwe Valar: Wasn't absolutely sure by the text. It seemed as if either
you expected a ways to go, or continuing the joviality begun by Fainan.
karakedi25: no, I see the inconsistency, so I fixed it
Eonwe Valar: Now it reads to me like you're continuing the joviality,
like "let's go introduces ourselves to those two guys!" hehe
Eonwe Valar: Varda's part does say "she knew the sparrers could hear her" so it seems to play into that.
ArPharazonV: I should really go. It's late here.
karakedi25: is that appropriate?
ArPharazonV: Gonna save and send.
Eonwe Valar: Take care Phar :}
ArPharazonV: I want to read the rest of this later!
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well :}
karakedi25: goodnight Ar-Pharazon
Eonwe Valar: In the spirit of the jovial tone Fainan set, it fits, I just wanted to make sure that's how you intended it.
FladrifV: namarie
Eonwe Valar: Heading out after just waking up, treeish one? :}
karakedi25: it was indeed my intention
Eonwe Valar: Ok.
