ArPharazonV: ah, true, misunderstood
VardaValar1: LotRO: the new Mirkwood area is terrific, even though heavily played.
VardaValar1: The skirmishes are amazingly fun, better than we expected.
VardaValar1: Improvements were added across massive numbers of things all across the game.
VardaValar1: Earlier areas also got touch-ups.
VardaValar1: Tuesday we get hardware upgrades: new servers under the old names.
VardaValar1: The test on the hardware has already been run for Bullroarer, so the roll-out is Tuesday.
VardaValar1: We are seeing tons of Valarites coming in.
VardaValar1: Elemmire had to leave LotRO for a little while unexpectedly but plans to return as soon as she can.
VardaValar1: We had people reaching the level cap in a hurry by playing all the time: Pippin and Indis being the first ones.
VardaValar1: Others will be hitting it soon.
VardaValar1: I'm done. : )
AriehnV: my Arienwyn had some first try on one of the skirmish camp quests
AriehnV: but am so stuck with a lot of group quests or going into Dol Dinen
AriehnV: that i cant manage on my own
AriehnV: to get any further
VardaValar1: That is when you get with kin.
AriehnV: there is never anyone on when i was or they are busy in raids
VardaValar1: We backed up a batch of us to handle the book line for Finarfin in Carn Dum. You can do the same thing.
VardaValar1: We had to pick a time to do it.
AriehnV: och you know the best time for me to do that is on or after work on tuesday .. i ll be off on wednesday
AriehnV: or wednesday night
AriehnV: anyway she is not far of 34 now
VardaValar1: This
coming Tuesday LotRO will be down most of the day for the hardware
roll-out. We'll see what can be done, but Tuesday people will be
playing catch-up.
VardaValar1: Wednesday looks better.
AriehnV: and
nearly proficient in jewelcraftting , just needs to go back to the
forsaken inn to be an expert which whill open up to work with gold and
barren iron ore
AriehnV: err barrow iron ore
AriehnV: well you what i mean :-) and i ve got some recipecs for that proficiency
AriehnV: ok thats it from me , we can fix a time after the meeting Varda or in a side window
AriehnV: Tolkien : has anyone a topic?
ArPharazonV: must be harsh, really, playing on a US server being European, timezones and all that
VardaValar1: She tends to come in our afternoon.
AriehnV: i usually come in the late evening after a bit of wow
AriehnV: or before work
ArPharazonV: hmm, for you that's allright then, if you still have the time to play enough :-)
AriehnV: if noone has an idea for Tolkien section i had a thought :-)#
AriehnV: its not really ideal Phara but its the best i can manage :-)
VardaValar1: You could do particular days for WoW and then for LotRO?
VardaValar1: Must be hard to do both games the same days.
AriehnV: aye i tend to play whichever game , faction and class i feel like
AriehnV: sometimes its all three , sometimes just one or two :-)
AriehnV: might be healthier to set fixed days true enough .. but dont know whether i could get used to that to be honest :-)
top
VardaValar1: What was your
Tolkien subject, Arien?
AriehnV: it
was something that came to my mind at work .. , you know the way you
keep your mind busy on some thing you really enjoy during a boring
routine :-)
VardaValar1: Cool : )
AriehnV: i mentioned the graphic novel Ashbringer last week
AriehnV: and mulling over it i saw some frappant parallels
VardaValar1: frappant?
AriehnV: hmm astonishing
AriehnV: astonishing parallels
AriehnV: In the way that first a) the orb that felll in the middle of the battle out of nowhere
AriehnV: corrupted the Mograines
AriehnV: the way it destroyed the family .. and actually how the ring corrupts and works
VardaValar1: So both stories had an object that corrupted people.
AriehnV: aye and it was both objects of power that was obvious to recognise for those who could
AriehnV: and that both objects were really dark
VardaValar1: A gold ring?
AriehnV: well Gandalf knew from the story of the ring finding by Smeagol and how he became Go.llum
AriehnV: that it was a great ring and that it had some evil power that corrupeted its owner from the time of finding
VardaValar1: Oh, dark as in evil?
AriehnV: aye
AriehnV: sorry i am not very clear
VardaValar1: You are probably clear enough. I'm a little distracted.
AriehnV: Ah well the main point i was getting to was there certainly more parallels we can think of betwen Tolkien and wow
AriehnV: i dont think that you know that particular story good enough for a discussion
AriehnV: even tho it woould be intriguing :-)P
AriehnV: but Ar Pharazon is probably frozen in icecrown
AriehnV: and Tulkas distracted in Mirkwood
ArPharazonV: phew, parallels between Warcraft and Tolkien..
AriehnV: Fladrif gone trewish
VardaValar1: Tulkas is at work.
AriehnV: of course
ArPharazonV: nah I'm not gaming right now, just got caught up with a favorite webcomic of mine
VardaValar1: Tolkien's work influenced most of modern fantasy and gaming.
AriehnV: and varda is distracted .. we can actuallly mull over it and think it through for another meeitng
TulkasValar61: sorry
back. I had to load my truck with a bunch of gear I need to deliver to
a facility tommorow. the company truck I was going to use was unsafe
with no tread on the tires.
VardaValar1: ugh
ArPharazonV: hmm, the Orcs originally started in Warcraft I as purely evil creatures, living for killing and destruction :-)
ArPharazonV: with a shadowy force driving them, and dissension in the ranks
VardaValar1: Arien, you were pointing out that the orb and ring were both corrupting objects for the peoples of the lands.
AriehnV: aye
ArPharazonV: So I guess that counts as a parallel with Tolkien ;-)
AriehnV: as an example for a parallel
VardaValar1: Anywhere you see orcs, generally you seen JRRT's influence. : )
VardaValar1: *see
ArPharazonV: True. He created them, I believe.
VardaValar1: And he brought back the long-unused idea of the heroic elves.
ArPharazonV: aye
ArPharazonV: what about dwarves?
ArPharazonV: did he come up with the "modern" concept?
VardaValar1: He got people using dwarves in stories again, mainly.
ArPharazonV: short but strong and durable fighters, loyal and persistent...
VardaValar1: JRRT brought the dwarves from their more Nordic versions.
VardaValar1: He brought back the elves from the aristocratic, trooping elves/fairies.
TulkasValar61: Dwarves
were an old european idea, the original dwarves from the original
(Grimm's??) fairy tale snow white were a lot more unsavory than disneys
version
ArPharazonV:
The typical fantasy Dwarf is, like the original Dwarves, short in
stature, long-bearded and skilled at mining and metallurgy. They are
often depicted as having a low affinity for most magical abilities
and/or a resistance to magic. After Tolkien, the standard Dwarf has
become similar to those of Germanic mythology.
ArPharazonV: that's from Wiki
AriehnV: i find it funny how Dwarves get a scottish accent in WoW and that was before The LotR films :-)
VardaValar1: I'd like to hear what you guys have to say. I can go read Wiki on my own. : )
ArPharazonV: WoW was not before the films, but I'm wondering when Warcraft II was released
VardaValar1: Nice bit though.
ArPharazonV: of course, Varda, but it seemed like some relevant information to expand on here
VardaValar1: In old Norse, Dwarves made magical objects.
VardaValar1: Aye, Phar.
AriehnV: which brings me back to The Ashbringer
AriehnV: just to keep that in mind
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25: aiya!
AriehnV: the orb that Lord Alexandros Mograine found was forged into a sword to be a weapon of light ..
ArPharazonV: Aiya Indis
VardaValar1: I need to go tend to my guests, but please feel free to keep going. : )
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis
TulkasValar61: Tolkiens
books were written with an english accent, coneys and taters for
example...Scottish or Irish is just a natural continuation of the idea
AriehnV: by a dwarf |King magni Bronzebeard hehe
AriehnV: but that reminds of the Nauglamir
karakedi25: sorry was helping Gorlim and Eomer with a skirmish, and the time got away from us
karakedi25: may I ask the topic?
AriehnV: the silmaril were forged in a neclace
AriehnV: We were talking about the influence Tolkien had on gaming and fantasy Indis , and more particular on World of Warcraft
ArPharazonV: except that the silmaril was not exactly an object of corruption (though dangerous to touch)
ArPharazonV: the necklace was made by the dwarves though, so that's a parallel
karakedi25 has left the room.
karakedi25: back
karakedi25 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: the Ring was never quite used as a weapon by the good side though (though some people would have wished it otherwise)
ArPharazonV:
I'm not very knowledgeable about the story of Ashbringer, but the blade
has played a huge part in the fight against the Lich King
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25: sorry, I keep getting disconnected :-(
AriehnV: ah Indis :-(
karakedi25: I know nothing about WoW, but in Neverwinter Nights, there are elves, dwarves, halflings, orcs and goblins.
karakedi25: And it lends itself to Tolkien-oriented persistent worlds (NWN that is)
AriehnV: We have elves , dwarves , orcs and goblins in wow :-)
ArPharazonV: halflings? I know WoW features gnomes but they're not exactly comparable
AriehnV: so thats enogugh hehe
karakedi25: no, there are halflings
karakedi25: in Neverwinter Nights
ArPharazonV: I'm not denying it :-)
ArPharazonV: just expanding the parallel
karakedi25: I play in a MIddle Earth world, and it's very friendly to making a Tolkien world, one quite faithful to lore
ArPharazonV: I know D&D features halflings though
karakedi25: NWN is D&D baded
ArPharazonV: ..beside gnomes
karakedi25: *based
AriehnV: i
dont think its really interesting for people who dont know wow and i
brought it only up since there were only folks on which knew both
AriehnV: but do feel free to extend the parallels with fantasy or games you know Indis :-)
karakedi25: was there any discussion of the roleplay?
ArPharazonV: not yet
AriehnV: No not yet
AriehnV: and Menelvagor is missing
AriehnV: Eonwe as well and varda has guests
ArPharazonV: so we'd best leave it be this week
ArPharazonV: I don't think I've even checked it this week
ArPharazonV: there's never enough time for the things you want to do
ArPharazonV: all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us...
TulkasValar61: Well
I will see you all next Sunday if at all possible...I work from 8 am to
8 pm which covers meeting time, that being said i will see you if I am
not too busy:-)
ArPharazonV: namarie Tulkas
AriehnV: Namarie Tulkas :-)
AriehnV: i see that Frali is ready to wake up
AriehnV: and Auros has brought Estarion asore
AriehnV: ashore
AriehnV: but i agree that we best leave rp for this weak
top
AriehnV: and call it
aftermeeting :-)
AriehnV: *bangs gavel*#
AriehnV: feel free as usual to hang around and remark and discuss anything you like :-) , we are family
ArPharazonV: I'll save and send then, it's time for sleeps
ArPharazonV (5:54:45 PM): saved
AriehnV (5:55:25 PM): all right Namarie all
AriehnV (5:55:40 PM) has left the room.
karakedi25 (5:56:17 PM): Glad I could make it for a little of the meeting.
karakedi25 (5:56:22 PM): Namarie, meldor
karakedi25 (5:56:27 PM) has left the room.
ArPharazonV (5:58:48 PM): and sent
ArPharazonV (5:58:57 PM): Namarie all!
ArPharazonV (6:01:41 PM) has left the room.
fladrifv (6:32:39 PM) has left the room.
TulkasValar61 (6:47:29 PM) has left the room.
