Eonwe Valar : Ok, as the last gaming Item, I will throw some game names out there for those who might be interested:

ArPharazonV : I'm still wondering whether I went too far with mine again

ArPharazonV : I got a huge amount of information out of a piece of broken arrow..

Eonwe Valar : I need to take a slightly closer look at the geography around Thranduil's halls for my post.

ArPharazonV : I just assumed it bordered on forest, but I could be wrong...

Eonwe Valar : if anyone's interested, we can discuss such as our Tolkien topic, or we can dig up something else.

VardaValar1 : I should also mention that my bread and butter work has gotten badly behind thanks to Ike, and that will have to take precedence, but Valar will certainly be looked after too when I get back online.

VardaValar1 : The forest is against it, and a road, and the halls are in the northwest corner so the inhabitants can leave the forest and ride out in the open sometimes.

Eonwe Valar : No problem Varda. Paying the bills needs to come first or contributing to the guild becomes much harder :}

Eonwe Valar : What about rivers? As I recall there's one underground used to ship the barrels. Anyone happen to know if it runs above ground near Thranduil's halls anywhere.

VardaValar1 : My post is the last one on the forum? Come on people.

VardaValar1 : The river has to be above ground outside the halls, and has a turn where the raft elves push them.

VardaValar1 : Should show in one of the map books?

VardaValar1 : The raft elves are a long way down though.

Eonwe Valar : Until now I had nothing jumping to mind to write about.

Eonwe Valar : Hmm, so the river isn't underground for the barrels? Must have the Rankin-Bass Hobbit and its coloring in my mind throwing me off.

VardaValar1 : It is underground for the barrels

Eonwe Valar : Ok.

ArPharazonV : it comes above ground somewhere..

Eonwe Valar : The question then becomes where.

VardaValar1 : Might check the Hobbit

VardaValar1 : I got the impression that it wasn't far

Eonwe Valar : If it's too far from the halls for the purposes of my next post, I can just change my character's location.

ArPharazonV : if there's elves on the surface pushing it forward at some point it's probably still near the Halls, aye, or at least in a secure location in the forest

VardaValar1 : Maker's marks on the arrows, that makes perfect sense.

Eonwe Valar : About Phar's post being too much/not being too much?

VardaValar1 : I also agree with the comment that a Mirkwood elf is very unlikely to kinslay, due to the Telerin tie.

VardaValar1 : Aye

VardaValar1 : The point of having Thranduil's comment was that it should work together with what we are trying to do already, not go against it.

VardaValar1 : That seems to show in the last line of the last post nicely.

VardaValar1 : Calion's thought:

VardaValar1 : He added to himself in silence that if there were answers concerning his brother to the west, or even at Angmar, he would find them faster this way. And he swore to do so under his breath.

Eonwe Valar : Seems the Forest River runs close enough to Thranduil's Halls for my purposes.

Eonwe Valar : Though nothing appears too,.. exciting for lack of a better word, about its course that close to the Halls.

Eonwe Valar : So that it may help inspire others for their next parts, I'll tell you that my post takes place the night before we leave, i.e. "tonight" according to our story-in-progress.

VardaValar1 : The river would be the wrong way for us to go to, wouldn't it?

Eonwe Valar : ..or you'll already be inspired to write something :}

VardaValar1 : Not having a comp in a few hours is inspirational. : )

ArPharazonV : ahh, what a refreshingly short post of 3 lines

ArPharazonV : we need more of those, I always tend to try cramming as much information as possible into a single post

Eonwe Valar : It's a "filler" post :} All I needed was to know how close the river was to be accurate about location.

Eonwe Valar : It's just a backdrop, and could've easily changed if the river is/was too far, so to walk to and get back to the Halls.

Eonwe Valar : Varda's post: short and sweet, hehe.

Eonwe Valar : Or perhaps a better phrase: cuts to the chase :}

ArPharazonV : maybe the better posting strategy is similar to what I'm told is the healthiest eating pattern...

ArPharazonV : shorter but more frequently :-)

VardaValar1 : The short ones I tend to mean to be more interactive. Not trying to write a chapter alone here. : )

ArPharazonV : I find it hard to get inspired by short posts though, what to write when there seems to be so little progress? ;-)

VardaValar1 : We're aiming ourselves in a direction.

ArPharazonV : I'm not sure what I expect from this RP, especially my place in it... I'm bad at smaller interaction scenes, but I try to learn, I'm just not sure what it'll become of it :-)

Eonwe Valar : Short posts are good, and longer posts are good, but I tend to favor moderate posts in most situations as you can add depth, perspective, and say what you're going to do.

VardaValar1 : Calion and I just said we would go with Auros and in the process investigate what our king wishes us to.

VardaValar1 : aye, posting while doing laundry and supper and interacting with everyone here in rl. : )

VardaValar1 : When Auros says he'll go, we can then shoot off doing more.

VardaValar1 : Stuck til then.

Eonwe Valar : remind me, singular for female elf?

ArPharazonV : by the way, currently reading The Science of Discworld II, the science chapters of which are based on the function and influence of storytelling in/on human development and modern society... quite a remarkable book

ArPharazonV : gives me a whole new perspective on the stories we like to write and read so much :-)

ArPharazonV : including Tolkien, and our own RP!

ArPharazonV : stories build up our imagination, gives us a sense of time and place, and makes us look forward to the future and innovation... a source of art and religion as well

ArPharazonV : I wonder where we'd be without stories, what we'd be :-)

ArPharazonV : we wouldn't be in this guild, for sure...

ArPharazonV : anyway, sorry for the interruption.. it just seemed something to mention

VardaValar1 : How did our enjoyment of fantasy and science-fiction get us to this point? : )

VardaValar1 : Certainly Middle-earth has been a source of art and inspiration for creativity.

ArPharazonV : much of the fantasy that is based on the works of Tolkien also seems to have a social effect, like gatherings for D&D or LARPs

ArPharazonV : bringing like-minded personalities together to expand our social circle and making it easier for us to expand ourself mentally, by input from other people

VardaValar1 : So it brings people together socially.

VardaValar1 : I like info just right up on the site where you don't have to dl files and mess with them, and then they have to be updated.

Eonwe Valar : The old link (the one that was apparently still on the games page) redirects me to the new one

VardaValar1 : Elleth is Sindarin, so you don't want it for Auros.

Eonwe Valar : Anyone, minus some word changes to reflect a quanyarin inner dialogue, my post is ready for perusal.

Eonwe Valar : It's like have that auto-word setting on some programs. I blame the Valar Guild for making me type too fast :}

ArPharazonV : I blame my typing course in high school, it took the thought out of typing and gives more control to my fingers

Eonwe Valar : I rarely if ever had a typo when I first joined, but my typing was somewhat slower too.

Eonwe Valar : Aye, point is to tell what you think of the game and why. If it's good, we want to know what's good about it, if it's bad, we want to know that too.

Eonwe Valar : Just like trying to tell a friend about it, gamplay, user interface, soundtrack if it's particularly notable (notably good or notably bad, hehe), parts you personally enjoyed if you want.

Eonwe Valar : That's all just general review stuff, btw, not jrelated specifically to your review, Fladrif.

Eonwe Valar : I've heard from people responding to my GPMU mail that are saying they'll likely get back into gaming with D3.

VardaValar1 : Sounds good. Maybe we'll have to set up a D3 branch.

VardaValar1 : Supposed to be another StarCraft coming out too.

TH0R0NGIL : depending when it comes out i might be back in iraq, in which case probably won't be able to play it for a bit...but perhaps not

VardaValar1 : Maybe you can still email or say hi on AIM or the Forum even over there? I don't know how they handle that.

VardaValar1 : they would all recognize it as a Mirkwood arrow, but probably figure it was an accident.

VardaValar1 : I wonder how Thranduil could punish such a deliberate act.

ArPharazonV : I know the one who had the arrow-piece was reluctant to give it to Calion because he recognized it as his family

ArPharazonV : but I'm not sure why this detail came up in the next meeting with Thranduil

ArPharazonV : I'm still a bit bothered by that detail

ArPharazonV : *why this detail did not come up

VardaValar1 : It will surely come up, but maybe not in front of us?

Eonwe Valar : If Calion knew/noticed it, why did he not bring it up? :}

Eonwe Valar : Either way, I'm off in the woods thinking about how this could affect my report back to Elrond :}

Eonwe Valar : Audience is a good word. Wish it'd popped into my mind.

VardaValar1 : He's going to be found out, so better put the best spin on it possible, maybe say you want to go find him as the one most able to do it?

VardaValar1 : We have a "modify" button to handle "forgets". : ) I use it often enough.

Eonwe Valar : I called it a Council a few posts back methinks, I'm a bit loathe to alter anything too far back.

VardaValar1 : I was wondering really though, what should Thranduil do if he found a kinslayer in his midst?

ArPharazonV : figured I was doing something you weren't ;-)

ArPharazonV : most likely unprecedented

VardaValar1 : Modify at the top for me.

VardaValar1 : It is unprecedented, but what could he do?

ArPharazonV : hmm

ArPharazonV : banish him?

ArPharazonV : imprison him?

Eonwe Valar : I pictured it more of Thrnaduil's council, he's getting briefings and I'm only there because it concerns the direction I'm going.

VardaValar1 : To where?

ArPharazonV : to the East, to the Avari perhaps?

VardaValar1 : Can't kill him since that would be kinslaying.

ArPharazonV : exactly

Eonwe Valar : That is a good question. What would be done with a kinslayer?

ArPharazonV : banishment and imprisonment are classical alternatives

VardaValar1 : Towards Mordor, not likely. Could be turned into an orc.

Eonwe Valar : Well, that could be debated.

VardaValar1 : My best guess is send him to sail to Valinor.

ArPharazonV : let the Valar deal with him? :-)

VardaValar1 : Aye, Phar, just hard to implement here.

VardaValar1 : Aye, purge his soul or whatever.

VardaValar1 : The elleth is not dead though.

ArPharazonV : anyway, as much as this is unfolding as a nice subject, you'll have to save it for next time, or continue without me

Eonwe Valar : Seems the classical treatment of a kinslayer is to be shunned.

ArPharazonV : because I *really* need to go
