Tolkien:
We all know the importance of music creating Arda, song fights, and such fun. How was it used in the Lord of the Rings?
Before-meeting:
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
AriehnV has entered the room.
AriehnV: aiya , golden one
ArPharazonV: Aiya
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Ar-Pharazon and Arien :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya
arwenv1 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Arwen :-)
Fladrifv has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiya Arwen and Fladrif!
VardaValar1: Hail ent : )
Fladrifv: Aiya!
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Hey there, Eonwe : )
Eonwe Valar: Heya

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!'
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: We have a likely candidate in LotRO, but I haven't done the formal test yet. Bad me.
VardaValar1: Any other membership news? Birthdays? Bar mitzvahs? : )
top
VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: I need help for something special.
arwenv1: oh?
VardaValar1: Maybe some of you have ideas.
VardaValar1: Glorfindel sent an original mp3, a music file, called The Fall of Nargothrond.
VardaValar1: I started to work up a new music page to accommodate that
one and at least one other he is setting up for us, the next with a
poem.
VardaValar1: But when I put the mp3 file on our server, valarguild.org, it didn't seem to understand it, so to speak.
VardaValar1: It has a big question mark and brings up a lot of blocks and letters.
Eonwe Valar: hmm. You should be able to set a link to it like normal, and it would be available for download.
arwenv1: you mean uploading the file, or trying to egt it to play?
VardaValar1: So it seems we need a different server, with lots of space, that can handle mp3 files.
arwenv1: if you want it to play from the page you <imbed> I think..
VardaValar1: <embed>
arwenv1: yes, spelled properly :-)
VardaValar1: Programs are picky that way, ask Eonwe who is currently doing one for homework. : )
Eonwe Valar: hehe
VardaValar1: Here's an url that goes to Glorfindel's file:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/music/media/
Eonwe Valar: So, you're trying to get this to play from the page, not be available for download?
VardaValar1: Inside is the mp3
VardaValar1: The icon is a question mark.
VardaValar1: I may do both, Eonwe. : )
VardaValar1: When I click on it, I get just this gobbledygook.
VardaValar1: I have not worked with mp3 files before. Is it supposed to do that?
Eonwe Valar: Do you have a link to the page you have it in?
Eonwe Valar: When I click on it, it opens Realplayer.
VardaValar1: When I clicked on it I got just letters and junk.
Eonwe Valar: What media player do you have on your computer?
VardaValar1: Does the music play for you?
VardaValar1: I need to know if the file is on the server properly or I need another server.
Eonwe Valar: I'm on Dial-up, so it would take a while to get to the music playing part if it did work :}
VardaValar1: Can any of the rest of you hear it?
VardaValar1: At least that's better than what I get. Gives hope.
Eonwe Valar: But it opens Realplayer, so it is recognized as a music file on someone's end.
VardaValar1: For <embed>, how do I set that up? Is this right?:
VardaValar1: <embed>http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/music/media/GlorfindelV/The_Fall_of_Nargothrond.mp3
VardaValar1: Should there be a closed thing on the end like </embed>
Eonwe Valar: Aye, most tags required an end-tag.
Eonwe Valar: *require
VardaValar1: Adding.
VardaValar1: Arwen, you mentioned it. Have you done this?
VardaValar1: (Arwen has an art site of her own.)
Eonwe Valar: If I recall, <embed> is going to make the music play in the background of the site.
AriehnV: hey its a nice piece of music i think but i am afraid i cant help you there
Eonwe Valar: So you could hear it, Arien?
AriehnV: i hear it right now from that link
VardaValar1: Great!
VardaValar1: Maybe I can just put in a link
VardaValar1: I tried <embed> and </embed> at the end and got this:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/music/musicians.htm
VardaValar1: Ok, I'll try it with a straight link.
arwenv1: you have the embed code wrong
arwenv1: one sec
arwenv1: try something like..
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/music/subjects.htm
VardaValar1: straight link there.
VardaValar1: for me it goes right into a white page of gobbledygook, no sound.
VardaValar1: I think this little comp might not have a player on it.
VardaValar1: Does the link work for anyone?
VardaValar1: Make music?
arwenv1:
arwenv1: drat
arwenv1: it doesnt show
AriehnV: atye works for me
ArPharazonV: it works for me
arwenv1: [embed] src="http://here" autostart="true" loop="true" height=25 width=50 controls="smallconsole" volume="50%"[/embed]
VardaValar1: Cool. : )
arwenv1: thats a proper embed code
VardaValar1: ok
VardaValar1: that loops
arwenv1: some of that can be left out
arwenv1: if you dont want it to autostart, change true to false, same with loop
VardaValar1: okie dokie
arwenv1: those height, width and controls means small, volume.. self explanitory :-)
VardaValar1: ok
arwenv1: but you have to have the src bit :-)
VardaValar1: That's a huge help. Thought I was going to have to find a separate server!
VardaValar1: hehe - ok
arwenv1: :-)
VardaValar1: Is it supposed to be [embed] instead of <embed>?
arwenv1: no
arwenv1: the <> one
arwenv1: it wouldnt show for me when I put it in the chat window
arwenv1: soI changed it to []
VardaValar1: thanks!
arwenv1: :-)
VardaValar1: I redid and reloaded those two pages. One has a link and one an embed. Any luck on the embed now?
VardaValar1: I just see code on the page where there should be an embed.
VardaValar1: Maybe the <embed should not be closed before the src : )
VardaValar1: trying that now
VardaValar1: Got the page with an icon where it should go, then it went to the white page with gobbledygook.
VardaValar1: So that might mean it works now?
VardaValar1: Please reload and try http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/music/musicians.htm
VardaValar1: no autoplay, no loop in this.
VardaValar1: What does it do for you folks?
Eonwe Valar: It opens Realplayer for me when I click on the link.
VardaValar1: So that is pretty much the same as having a straight link.
VardaValar1: Autoplay would be a problem on a long list of music. : )
Eonwe Valar: Trying the new version, one sec.
Fladrifv: my browser tells me he doesnt know a program for it
VardaValar1: ugh
Eonwe Valar: Nothing's happening yet for the new link.
VardaValar1: ok, well the important thing is that we can keep the same server. : )
VardaValar1: However these files are huge.
Eonwe Valar: I click it, then it becomes unclickable. About all I can tell that happens.
VardaValar1: So the embed is not set up right by me yet.
Fladrifv: http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/2005/02/23/mp3_embed.html
Fladrifv: here an little background info on embeding things
VardaValar1: But the other one with just a link does play using your personal player: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/music/subjects.htm
VardaValar1: Thank you, Fladrif.
VegetableMannn has entered the room.
VardaValar1: We were just discussing music, Glorfindel. : )
AriehnV: heya glorfindel :-) nice piece indeed
Fladrifv: I prefer to have a link to the file so he downloads / opens a suitable program
VardaValar1: Glorfindel, try clicking the link on this page and see if it plays for you: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/music/subjects.htm
VegetableMannn: oh thank you : )
VardaValar1: It's beautiful. Well worth the effort to set up a new page.
VardaValar1: The folks here have been helping me make it work on our regular server. : )
VegetableMannn: thats very nice of you
VardaValar1: Did the link on that page play the music for you, Glorfindel?
Fladrifv: I prefer the latest link method if you ask me :-)
VegetableMannn: i get a blank page when i click on it
VardaValar1: oboy
VardaValar1: That's the same one you liked, Fladrif?
ArPharazonV: vegetablemannn is Glorfindel.. *makes a note*
VardaValar1: hehe
Fladrifv: (11:51:43 PM) VardaValar1: Glorfindel, try clicking the link on this page and see if it plays for you: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/music/subjects.htm
Fladrifv: this one where the mp3 is on the name as link to download the file
VegetableMannn: still get a dead page
VardaValar1: You have a player like Real Player or other on that computer?
VegetableMannn: thats when i click on the link
VegetableMannn: and it opens with windows explorer
VegetableMannn: when i use the link in firefox then it works
VardaValar1: I'm in Netscape.
ArPharazonV: well, explorer's just evil..
Eonwe Valar: Works for me fine in Internet Explorer.
VardaValar1: Actually yes. Explorer is so buggy that every webpage has to do workarounds to handle all the errors in it.
VardaValar1: Different versions of Internet Explorer?
Eonwe Valar: Think I'm using v6.
VegetableMannn: mines probably just outdated is all
VegetableMannn: i never use it
VardaValar1: It should say the version number under About, I think?
Eonwe Valar: Yep, v6 is the IE I'm using. newest is v7.
VardaValar1: Help/About says I am using Netscape 7.1
VardaValar1: If you guys tell me which browsers do and do not work, that can help a lot.
VardaValar1: Looking forward to your next piece very much, Glorfindel. : )
VardaValar1: I can put in the page that it works best with Netscape and Firefox, may have issues with some versions of Explorer?
Eonwe Valar: IEv6 works fine.
VegetableMannn: will be soon hopefully
VardaValar1: Glor, what version IE are you using?
Eonwe Valar: I can try at school tomorrow, they use v7.
VardaValar1: Playing music in school can get you nasty looks. : )
Eonwe Valar: No speakers on the computers :}
VardaValar1: They fixed that problem.
VardaValar1: Glorfindel, hello?
VardaValar1: ok, I'll stick with the link for now, play with embed code on another comp that has a player.
VardaValar1: I'm very backlogged on putting up stories, hope to catch up this coming week.
VardaValar1: Any further web news?
top
VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: What games besides WoW or LotRO has anyone played this last week?
ArPharazonV: just a few online flashgames
VardaValar1: Bilbo played Team Fortress 2.
VardaValar1: Same as we listed last meeting, Phar?
ArPharazonV: actually, I'm now playing one called Snow Line, which I believe I didn't play last week...
ArPharazonV: but otherwise much the same as last week
VardaValar1: Like it?
ArPharazonV: well, I think I may have linked it a few months ago
ArPharazonV: but yeah, it's fun
VardaValar1: Sauron said everywhere he looked in the University, people were playing WoW. : )
ArPharazonV: you have to draw lines of snow in the air to guide Santa
in his sled through all the gifts and then on to the finishing flag
VardaValar1: Thanks, Phar. Sounds seasonal. : )
ArPharazonV: can be played in any season ;-)
VardaValar1: : )
VardaValar1: On to WoW
ArPharazonV: http://www.gamingdelight.com/games/snowline.php
VardaValar1: Arien, do you have a report for Argent Dawn server?
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: ArPharazon, would you like to tell your WoW story now for Argent Dawn? : )
ArPharazonV: sure
ArPharazonV: my druid, Calaron, main character, has been fishing a lot
in the last couple of weeks, training his skill and catching better
fish for good food
ArPharazonV: and this week I thought I'd get him some better fishing
gear, so for the first time ever I participated in the Stranglethorn
Fishing Extravaganza, earlier today
ArPharazonV: it being my first time, and there being a lot of luck
involved, and lots of competition around, one usually has to spend many
weeks trying to win the extravaganza and win the arcanite fishing pole,
best one in the game
ArPharazonV: but, I figured, I wouldn't take any chances, and had some
preparations: I asked around in some channels, and did some internet
research, about precautions I should take
AriehnV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: and so, late yesterday night, I set my hearthstone in
Booty Bay, equipped my Skybreaker Whip (questreward, equivalent of the
riding crop, +10% mount-speed), and my fishing pole, and switched
around a few buttons on my actionbar
ArPharazonV: and I parked on the southeastern coast of Stranglethorn Vale, ready for a good start the next day
ArPharazonV: and so, today, about 5 minutes before the Extravaganza
began at 2 pm, I logged back in and waited for the starting signal
ArPharazonV: and I guess the Lady smiled on me today, because less than
half an hour later... my name was shouted around the zone and I walked
away with a brandnew fishing pole!
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Woot!
ArPharazonV: made me feel sorry for all the people who have been trying
for months to win, though... I never expected to win on my first try :-)
VegetableMannn: lol
VegetableMannn: nice
VardaValar1: Way to go : )
ArPharazonV: I'll be participating again the next few weeks, but not
for the first prize, because I have my fishing pole now, but there are
some rare fish you can catch and turn in later in the afternoon for
further rewards with +fishing skills
ArPharazonV: including a fishing line (enchant), some boots, and a hat
AriehnV has entered the room.
AriehnV: am i still here?
ArPharazonV: but I figure, this was a good start, and at least the competitive part's over with :-)
ArPharazonV: you are
ArPharazonV: but you've been leaving and entering several times
ArPharazonV: and that's my fishing story!
VardaValar1: You just came back, missed most of Phar's tale of the fishing pole.
AriehnV: ah well you see thats one of the main reasons why there is no AD report
VardaValar1: That was a whale of a tale. : )
ArPharazonV: :-)
AriehnV: our connection is still jumping in and out
VardaValar1: Connection problems. ouch
AriehnV: can imagine :-) aye and no clue whatsoever but we got BT report it as fault so they will send an engineer out
AriehnV: but carry on ;-)_
VardaValar1: May they fix it soon. : )
ArPharazonV: indeed!
VardaValar1: Lothar server:
VardaValar1: My family has been playing in the guild on Lothar quite a bit all week.
VardaValar1: Elwing also.
VardaValar1: Eonwe had homework and could not make the Friday run.
VardaValar1: Galdor hit level 70 and took his character out of the guild.
VardaValar1: Makes us feel like an incubator, as often as that happens.
VardaValar1: Uldaman server:
VardaValar1: Elwing played hooky from Uldaman and joined us on Lothar,
where we were also playing hooky on Wednesday. Much fun had by all.
VardaValar1: Back to music for a second. Arien has a link that includes some Tolkien-flavored music. Go ahead, Arien.
AriehnV: aye inspired by glorfindels piece i remembered an old page i
knew once so visited again and listened through some filksongs
AriehnV: the page is http://www.prometheus-music.com/eli/virtual.html
AriehnV: under the fantasy section , the third song down is The fellowship going south
AriehnV: sung by Julie Ecklar and gives a good impression of how they might have felt
AriehnV: nice song i think :-)
AriehnV: thats it
VardaValar1: Thanks!
VardaValar1: When I get on a comp with a music player, I'll check it out. : )
VegetableMannn: ooh she has a very nice voice
VardaValar1: Glorfindel may be needing a singer for a sung version of his next piece. : )
AriehnV: yupp very powerful
VardaValar1: It will be up as an instrumental I believe.
VegetableMannn: yeah, ive been writing words to it
VegetableMannn: but i dont believe ill be singing
VegetableMannn: i may
VegetableMannn: but i dont want to ruin it :P
VardaValar1: Start out with an instrumental, then we can try karaoke. ;-)
VegetableMannn: ive been working on a jazzy piece the last couple of days varda, but I will get back to this one asap
VegetableMannn: im almost finished with it anyway
VardaValar1: Cool.
VegetableMannn: but i need to vary what im working on at a given time to give me some perspective
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: Might have to do a jazzy Tolkien piece too. ;-)
VegetableMannn: hehe i couldnt pull it off lol
VardaValar1: Later maybe. : )
VardaValar1: Ok, on to LotRO:
VardaValar1: Arien has been showing up there this week, a delight. : )
VardaValar1: We've been running another Rift raid, this time with the Black Lions.
VardaValar1: I skipped out on this, the third night, to be at the meeting. There will be more Rift raids.
VegetableMannn: maybe i could do a jazz instrumental on fanghorn forest :o
VardaValar1: We've also been concentrating a lot on Book and Chapter runs, trying to be in position for Book 12 which is about to come out.
VardaValar1: Huorn jazz!
VardaValar1: Book 12 update will have a lot of new additions, should be fun.
VardaValar1: Arien, anything you wish to add?
AriehnV: Orome guided me to Goldberry's well last thursday
AriehnV: afer running a few times amiss in the barrows
AriehnV: for the northern downs my guardian seriously lacks dps
AriehnV: even though she has the strength
VardaValar1: Guardians aren't supposed to have dps at this time, but more will be added in Book 12.
VardaValar1: My Guardian is taking out monsters 5 levels over.
AriehnV: nice :-) but there the captain comes in handy now .. we will see who advances as main
VardaValar1: Just takes time whittling. ; )
VardaValar1: Champion has a lot of up close dps. How do you like that one?
AriehnV: got some few better armor now .. a better shield , but the weapon is still crap and most of the armor
AriehnV: i like the wee dwarf :-)
VardaValar1: Thank you, Arien. : )
top
VardaValar1: On to Tolkien
VardaValar1: I had thought about a few subjects, but music seems to be on our minds today. : )
VardaValar1: We all know the importance of music creating Arda, song fights, and such fun.
VardaValar1: How was it used in the Lord of the Rings?
AriehnV: it was used as weapon by Tom Bombadil. to defeat the wight in the #barrow
AriehnV: he taught a song to the Hobbits to summon him
VardaValar1: True!
VardaValar1: That's an example of it purposefully used with power, as a weapon
ArPharazonV: it was used on evenings in the wild and cold weather to lighten hearts!
VardaValar1: I suspect it was a kind of weapon, not sure purposeful, by Mirkwood elves.
VardaValar1: Where they had a feast, the darkness lifted and spiders kept away from the area a while.
VardaValar1: We know in the books Legolas sang a great deal, so we can
figure wood-elves did that a lot, and may have used it against the
darkness from Dol Guldur.
VardaValar1: Morale can indeed help a group win or lose.
VardaValar1: Good point, Phar.
VardaValar1: Hobbits used song, part of their morale-building for their very strong spirit.s
AriehnV: the elves where gifted with music and songs from the beginning
, so for them it was a racial trait and in Rivendell songs where a
means to preserve knowledge
arwenv1 has left the room.
VardaValar1: Well said.
AriehnV: in LOTR ... it mostly seems to have been either a weapon or a
means to lighten the hearts , in a way a weapon in itself against
threatening darkness of more than one way
VegetableMannn: a weapon for light or darkness
AriehnV: for light
VegetableMannn: old man willow and the barrow wight used their power of music for evil
AriehnV: ah true indeed forgot about that one
VardaValar1: Morgoth or Manwe could use music for his ends, aye.
Eonwe Valar: I can see the armies of Morgoth breaking out in song around his throne right now :}
AriehnV: fairly sissonant music i would think
VardaValar1: Doom doom <thump thump> Doom doom <thump thump>.
AriehnV: err dissonant ;-)
VardaValar1: Morgoth's music tended to be brassy without harmonies.
VardaValar1: Sorry, digressed into Sil. : )
ArPharazonV: metal on metal can make some nice music!
AriehnV: not my style .. i like harmoony in music , either brass or guitar whether fast or slow
VardaValar1: I think JRRT was making a point. We weren't really supposed to like Morgoth's music.
Eonwe Valar: Try "A Dark Passage" by Blind Guardian from their Nightfall in Middle-Earth album :}
Eonwe Valar: And aye to Varda on Morgoth's music.
VardaValar1: I need to tend to real life. Feel free to continue your
discussions on anything at all, even music in Tolkien' works. : )
top
VardaValar1: *After-meeting*
AriehnV: all right Varda :-) cya around
VardaValar1: Namarie
VegetableMannn: your not going to go watch football are you ;O
VardaValar1: No way : )
Eonwe Valar: Take care all who are turning their attention elsewhere.
VardaValar1: I have to make supper, tend to guests and a sick kid.
VardaValar1: Might be on LotRO later. ;-)
VardaValar1: LotRO, my favorite sport!
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: MMOs, my anti-work :}
ArPharazonV: Namrie then!
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: Namarie too
AriehnV: i found the website of Blind guardian
AriehnV: hehe listening in
VardaValar1: url please? : )
AriehnV: http://www.blind-guardian.com/
VardaValar1: thanks : )
AriehnV: :-)
VardaValar1 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Even if you don't like metal, I reccomend "The Eldar,"
Eonwe Valar: *reccommend
AriehnV: i like that style its like Hammerfall
AriehnV: :-)
Fladrifv: blindguardian is great :-)
Fladrifv: I reccomend the curse of feanor though :-)
AriehnV: which one is that?
Fladrifv: also blindguardian song
Fladrifv: from nightfall in middle
Fladrifv: album
Fladrifv: but more metalish :-)
Eonwe Valar: I own about 5 or so Blind Guardian albums. I'd say "Nightfall in Middle-Earth" is the best of them, followed by "Somewhere Far Beyond."
Fladrifv: I agree
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, actually, I apparently own 6 albums :}
Fladrifv: and best song ever of them is valhalla
Eonwe Valar: and 1 single :}
Eonwe Valar: Valhalla's ok.
Eonwe Valar: "And Then There Was Silence" is of epic length :}
Fladrifv: covers the whole thing in a nice text
Fladrifv: hehe
Fladrifv: never noticed the length...I really like that song
AriehnV: ah well there is another name to be remembered
Fladrifv: mr sandman? :-)
Eonwe Valar: It rivals "Freebird" in length :}
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, don't remember Mr. Sandman.
AriehnV: Hehe aye :-) lol listening and watching Lord of the Rings actually the song
AriehnV: but its getting time
Fladrifv: its from The Forgotten Tales
Eonwe Valar: One of the albums I don't have, heh.
AriehnV: found Valhalla on you tube
Fladrifv: live edition or album?
AriehnV: life
AriehnV: video that is
Fladrifv: eonwe do you listen to more true music like bg?
Eonwe Valar: more true music?
Fladrifv: in the style of blind guardian I mean :-)
Eonwe Valar: Heh, I listen to many types of music. I would call any of it true music :}
Fladrifv: Im a little more narrominded *grin*
Eonwe Valar: Hehe. We couldn't have metal without Classic Rock.
Eonwe Valar: We couldn't have Classic Rock if someone didn't decide they wanted a sound different from the music before that :}
Fladrifv: my affection to rock music is called by other people narrominded :-)
AriehnV: hehe cant say that it is i like so many styles
Eonwe Valar: I don't listen to Rap or Country. Country mostly because
I'm just not interested in the style, Rap because I'm interested in
neither the style nor the content.
Eonwe Valar: I don't listen to all Rock either.
Fladrifv: I listen to music I like
Fladrifv: :-) I think that is the best to do
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
AriehnV: words are important too but i agree basically
Fladrifv: so I have like 1 hiphop album
Fladrifv: 35 classical music cds
Fladrifv: and over 40 metal :-)
Eonwe Valar: Don't waste your time listening to stuff you don't like.
Eonwe Valar: Every now and then I hear a techno song I like, heh.
VegetableMannn: whats a good metal band?
VegetableMannn: i dont know much about metal
Eonwe Valar: Blind Guardian.
Fladrifv: depends what kind of metal
AriehnV: Hammerfall
Fladrifv: powermetal its definately those 2 plus edguy
Fladrifv: stratovarius
Fladrifv: more classid is savatage
AriehnV: this Edguy sounds nice too
AriehnV: Judas Priest, some maiden .. the father of this all
Fladrifv: want more power rhapsody
Fladrifv: dreamtheather
Eonwe Valar: Nightfall in Middle-Earth is Blind Guardian's best album in my opinion, and not because it's Tolkien related.
Eonwe Valar: I have a friend who likes Dragonforce, but they're not really my cup of tea.
Fladrifv: female voice is nightwish withintemptation and such
VegetableMannn: my sister likes them lol
Eonwe Valar: Iced Earth has done an album with Blind Guardian.
Fladrifv: dragonforce :D
AriehnV: :-D
Fladrifv: they keep up the speed I must say
AriehnV: i rewrote Through the fire and th flames this week
Fladrifv: ...listening to a very old album of shadokeep, its so good
AriehnV: i can sing through the lags and the dcs i carry on
Fladrifv: hehe
Eonwe Valar: I like to be able to understand the lyrics in a song, so
odds are I wouldn't bother with any band with a lead singer I couldn't
understand.
AriehnV: it honestly sucks soo much
Eonwe Valar: Nirvana included, heh.
AriehnV: especially when yer in an instance related guild
AriehnV: *sigh*
VegetableMannn: my sister gave me some dragonforce, symphony x. and a
bunch of other bands i never heard before to put on my computer
AriehnV: aye some Nirvana indeed
VegetableMannn: still have not listened to any of them yet lol
Fladrifv: symphony x is simply brilliant
Fladrifv: http://metal-archives.com/release.php?id=2200
Eonwe Valar: If you're looking for a softer sound, I recommend DHT. The lead singer has a decent voice.
Eonwe Valar: and by softer sound, I mean not metal :}
VegetableMannn: yeah i did hear one sx song that came up on my computer
VegetableMannn: i thought it was pretty good
Fladrifv: dht?
Eonwe Valar: That's the name of the band.
VegetableMannn: yeah i dont overly love when the singers shriek and scream like a monster lol
VegetableMannn: though thats just me
Eonwe Valar: The you probably wouldn't be too interested in Flyleaf :}
Eonwe Valar: *the = Then
Eonwe Valar: The lead singer for DHT, Edmee, does a "unplugged" version of Roxette's "Listen to You Heart."
Eonwe Valar: *does a nice
Eonwe Valar: And of course you have to have The Eagles in your music collection :}
AriehnV: oh aye :-)
Fladrifv: anyone likes creed?
Eonwe Valar: Creed is pretty good.
Eonwe Valar: I like some of their songs.
Fladrifv: ode is good and illusion

VegetableMannn: i like that song
VegetableMannn: yeah i like the eagles too
Eonwe Valar: Anyone heard of/like Tal Bachman?
Fladrifv: not yet
Eonwe Valar: Hehe, that's not a good sign, since his first and as far as I know only album came out a few years ago :}
Fladrifv: hihi sounds like live
Eonwe Valar: he was the son of the guy from Bachman-Turner Overdrive, another CLassic Rock band.
Eonwe Valar: The did "Takin' Care of Business," among others, but that's probably one of their best-known songs.
Fladrifv: ok
VegetableMannn: that songs annoying lol
VegetableMannn: they play it too much
Eonwe Valar: Hehe
AriehnV: ah well one last song .. one a bit slowed down in speed i guess else it keeps me from sleeping
Eonwe Valar: Have you hear that song that goes "She so hiiiiigh, high above me."?
AriehnV: ;-)

Fladrifv: dragonforce is excelent for that ariehn
VegetableMannn: they were trying to play one of their other songs but
homer wouldnt have it.. he demanded "taking care of business"
VegetableMannn: haha
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Oh, Evanescence, another good band.
Eonwe Valar: Though their first album is a bit better than their second.
Fladrifv: Elis is also very good
Eonwe Valar: Fairly hard rock I suppose on many songs, don't know if I'd go as far as metal.
Fladrifv: evanescence isnt that gothic
Eonwe Valar: Still pretty good to me anyway.
Fladrifv: anyone knows nightwish?
Eonwe Valar: I've heard of them.
ArPharazonV: I do :-)
