meepodmaim (4:16:11 PM): of course I didnt realize that last night when I could have asked...
VardaValar1 (4:16:15 PM): We are about 15 minutes late starting, if that helps with the time zone.
VardaValar1 (4:16:33 PM): The time is also on the News page, if that helps. : )
VardaValar1 (4:16:42 PM): 5pm EDST
VardaValar1 (4:16:56 PM): What is your local time now?

meepodmaim (4:17:10 PM): 3 PM Mountain time
VardaValar1 (4:17:26 PM): Makes you one hour earlier than Eonwe and myself. : )
VardaValar1 (4:17:41 PM): Fladrif, sleepy ent, are you there?
VardaValar1 (4:18:17 PM): Exceptionally small meeting. Glad you could make it!
meepodmaim (4:18:49 PM): thank you.  Sadly I haven't come up with an appropriate discussion topic
VardaValar1 (4:18:59 PM): No problem. : )
meepodmaim (4:19:06 PM): played too late, slept, ate, and here I am!
fladrifv (4:19:13 PM): *waves* Im pressent
VardaValar1 (4:19:14 PM): We are in the Membership section now.
VardaValar1 (4:19:25 PM): Fladrif, what time is it for you now?
Eonwe Valar (4:19:35 PM): Heya and Welcome to the Valar Guild, Bard :}
meepodmaim (4:19:37 PM): Is this a bi-weekly meeting or weekly?
fladrifv (4:19:38 PM): 11:19:19PM
meepodmaim (4:19:43 PM): Why thank you!
VardaValar1 (4:19:44 PM): Weekly
meepodmaim (4:19:49 PM): and heya back!
VardaValar1 (4:20:13 PM): Bard, it is customary at your first meeting to "say a few words".
VardaValar1 (4:20:40 PM): A little about yourself, maybe how you found us, any comments you'd like to make.
meepodmaim (4:20:43 PM): "a few words" *wink*
meepodmaim (4:20:57 PM): oh OK, sure
VardaValar1 (4:21:00 PM): Some have very few words indeed, others write a book.
VardaValar1 (4:21:24 PM): Don't say anything you don't want on a public website though.
VardaValar1 (4:21:37 PM): We put up the meeting transcript for all those who can't make it.
meepodmaim (4:22:42 PM): My names Jim, I live in Colorado with my wife and two kids (4 and 5). I'm 35 years old and have been a Tolkien nut for a better part of my life, having ...
meepodmaim (4:22:45 PM): ...been introduced to it through D&D back in the early 80's. My favorite Tolkien book was the Hobbit, which I've read more times than I can count.
meepodmaim (4:23:18 PM): I've never been a big computer gamer, though the ones I do enjoy happen to be many of those that the Valar Guild have their roots in
VardaValar1 (4:24:23 PM): Proves his good taste. : )
meepodmaim (4:25:00 PM): I met Varda 2 weeks back or so when i saw a request to help with a quest. I wasn't busy and love to help and meet players so I joined up and we chatted it up.
meepodmaim (4:25:01 PM): I got a good vibe for the Valar Guild and thought it would be a good, fun fit for my life at the moment
meepodmaim (4:25:33 PM): I'm a stay at home dad full time right now but was a chef previously.  I love food.  Too much...
VardaValar1 (4:25:37 PM): You seemed to be a natural for the group.
meepodmaim (4:25:48 PM): (in fact I am making next weeks menu as I type this out)
fladrifv (4:25:55 PM): did I read starcraft inbetween the lines?
VardaValar1 (4:25:59 PM): hehe
meepodmaim (4:26:03 PM): You did :P
meepodmaim (4:26:08 PM): Anything BLizzard.
fladrifv (4:26:16 PM): good we really need one more in our sc groupe
meepodmaim (4:26:25 PM): I've played WoW off and on since Open Beta but never beyond level 52
meepodmaim (4:26:38 PM): I'd have to find my disks but I know I still have 'em!
fladrifv (4:26:56 PM): great, I played wow untill lvl 70 twice, for your interest
VardaValar1 (4:27:25 PM): Fladrif has even tried LotRO on the trial account
meepodmaim (4:27:28 PM): oh, I'm a lifetime member of LotRO, so you'll see me in that game for a LONG time.  I was reluctant to join an MMO based on Middle Earth, afraid of demolishing the lore
meepodmaim (4:27:38 PM): but my friend convinced me otherwise and Im glad I did
VardaValar1 (4:27:57 PM): We even get to make /bug reports if we find something wrong in the lore. : )
meepodmaim (4:28:02 PM): think thats about it :P
VardaValar1 (4:28:08 PM): Thank you!
fladrifv (4:28:14 PM): welcome welcome
meepodmaim (4:28:17 PM): I like to read, juggle, hike, and drink wine too
VardaValar1 (4:28:18 PM): Maybe you should consider a hobbit, o chef. : )
meepodmaim (4:28:20 PM): hehe
VardaValar1 (4:28:35 PM): Juggle! I'm impressed!
meepodmaim (4:28:47 PM): Actually I started a Burglar last week, after the servers stabilized a bit
meepodmaim (4:28:59 PM): thanks
VardaValar1 (4:29:08 PM): Cool
VardaValar1 (4:29:35 PM): Eonwe is in LotRO too
VardaValar1 (4:29:43 PM): Mostly WoW
meepodmaim (4:29:54 PM): One day I'll go back to WoW.  It's an off and om thing for me
VardaValar1 (4:30:10 PM): I'm mostly LotRO. Not going to push you to WoW.
meepodmaim (4:30:27 PM): I'll rejoin, play fr about 2 weeks hardcore, the third less, and by the fourth I'm so sick of the general population I take another 6 months off!
VardaValar1 (4:30:43 PM): But do try popping in on Lothar server where we are, and using Valar friend channel
meepodmaim (4:30:47 PM): so I enjoy WoW.  In fact many, many of my friends play it (exclusively)
VardaValar1 (4:30:48 PM): ouch
VardaValar1 (4:31:33 PM): Fladrif also has membership news. Go ahead, kindly ent.
meepodmaim (4:31:42 PM): but I really hate the immature, spiteful, entitled, sarcastic group that is the vocal Majority (minority) on WoW.  Lotro scratches the same itch for me and has less rocket launcher firing trolls
fladrifv (4:31:51 PM): *its a very sad day for the ent.....*
VardaValar1 (4:31:58 PM): (My troll uses a bow)
AriehnV (4:32:04 PM) has entered the room.
fladrifv (4:32:37 PM): a member of our famely passed away this very day, and that is all I want to tell about it.
VardaValar1 (4:32:48 PM): That tells it all, Fladrif.
meepodmaim (4:33:07 PM): I'm very sorry to hear that
VardaValar1 (4:33:09 PM): We are honored that you would come today.
AriehnV (4:33:38 PM): aye , indeed , *hugs*
VardaValar1 (4:33:51 PM): And hello to Arien. : )
Eonwe Valar (4:34:01 PM): I am sorry to hear that Fladrif. You have my condolences.
meepodmaim (4:34:08 PM): hello, I'm Bard-V (new guy)
fladrifv (4:34:28 PM): thank you all, its the circle of life...
VardaValar1 (4:34:33 PM): You just missed his "few words". We'll let you read it in the transcript.
VardaValar1 (4:34:43 PM): Aye, it is. Well said, Fladrif.
VardaValar1 (4:35:22 PM): Arien, meet Bard. Bard, meet Arien.
meepodmaim (4:35:31 PM): its always hard, young or old, yes.  Attachment is a tough one
meepodmaim (4:35:39 PM): greetings
VardaValar1 (4:35:39 PM): LotRO player, some SC and WoW
AriehnV (4:36:10 PM): /
VardaValar1 (4:36:13 PM): Arien, we were comparing times. What time is it for you?
AriehnV (4:36:18 PM): Aiya to You bbard
AriehnV (4:36:48 PM): 22.34 here
fladrifv (4:37:18 PM): interesting 1 hour and 2 minutes
VardaValar1 (4:37:32 PM): It can be tough to come in the middle of the day, thanks for being here, Bard.
AriehnV (4:37:34 PM): err misread sorry 22.37
AriehnV (4:37:45 PM): /
AriehnV (4:37:57 PM): what time is it for you , Bard?
fladrifv (4:38:01 PM): time spikes to occur
VardaValar1 (4:38:25 PM): We measure the time by Arien, in this Age of the Sun. She can spike it.
meepodmaim (4:38:25 PM): 15:40 (Mountain time, US)
AriehnV (4:38:56 PM): hehe , i send my rays where i want, directly into the heart of grieved trees and flowers
AriehnV (4:39:09 PM): and ents, men , elves and hobbits
VardaValar1 (4:39:12 PM): We have another new member who joined us this last week, Mablung-(V), in LotRO.
VardaValar1 (4:39:19 PM): Send a few rays his way, too. : )
AriehnV (4:39:34 PM): *bows*
meepodmaim (4:39:42 PM): I cna use them.  We have the heat of August with the humidty of May right now in Colorado
VardaValar1 (4:39:43 PM): Thanks to Bard, Mablung is not the newest member.
meepodmaim (4:39:52 PM): I do what I can
VardaValar1 (4:40:11 PM): Would you like to borrow our thunderstorm outside? : )  At least it's cooling us from the 98 F temps.
VardaValar1 (4:40:37 PM): Melkor is from Colorado too. You can compare notes sometime in LotRO.

VardaValar1 (4:40:51 PM): On to Web News:
meepodmaim (4:41:02 PM): And we shall!  Great state, lousy unpredictable weather!
VardaValar1 (4:41:04 PM): The Tolkien Site has new art this week.
VardaValar1 (4:41:30 PM): (In Texas, if you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes.)
VardaValar1 (4:41:50 PM): DeepGroover-(TV), Elwing-(V)'s brother, made and painted a new model:
VardaValar1 (4:41:57 PM): Monk Warrior
VardaValar1 (4:42:18 PM): for the photos, front and back.
meepodmaim (4:42:21 PM): I saw that, impressive work.  I used to do that sort of thing when I was young and had imagination!
meepodmaim (4:42:34 PM): the details are quite impressive
VardaValar1 (4:42:43 PM): He's got some gray in his hair, DeepGroover. : )
VardaValar1 (4:43:04 PM): Check out his starting page in the art and see most of his modeling trophies.
VardaValar1 (4:43:35 PM): He has too many to be comfortable in his room, so he's mostly retiring from active competition, just putting new stuff on display
VardaValar1 (4:44:58 PM): Eonwe has been experimenting with programming for the Games pages, not something that might be very visible, but impressive stuff.
Invitation result for buddy arwenv1 : arwenv1 rejected your request.
VardaValar1 (4:46:39 PM): Eonwe, you have some news on the Games page. Would you like to pass it on?
top

VardaValar1 (4:46:58 PM): We can switch to the Games part of the meeting with this as a crossover. : )
VardaValar1 (4:48:04 PM): Eonwe is over there looking up some stuff in LotR. In a Tolkien and gamers meeting!
VardaValar1 (4:49:03 PM): Whilst he is busy,
VardaValar1 (4:49:20 PM): Who, this week, has played a game that is not WoW or LotRO? : )
fladrifv (4:49:53 PM): chess
fladrifv (4:49:56 PM): sc
VardaValar1 (4:50:07 PM): Flad, our super Chess guy : )
fladrifv (4:50:15 PM): oh and I discovered a freeware adventure platform
meepodmaim (4:50:18 PM): I played some tabletop D&D with some old friends last Sunday, does that count?  We still role with the original White Box from 1974
VardaValar1 (4:50:53 PM): It counts. I've been missing out on our D&D Eberron tabletop lately, but it's still going under Sauron's leadership, and Gimli is there too.
VardaValar1 (4:51:10 PM): Flad, do you have the url?
fladrifv (4:51:29 PM): trying to back track it, back in a sec
VardaValar1 (4:51:38 PM): Thank you, much appreciated.
VardaValar1 (4:53:13 PM): The 4.0 came out kind of, but not enough for the rpga people to be able to use at conventions yet.
VardaValar1 (4:53:29 PM): Sauron is studying up for it though. We still run 3.4
fladrifv (4:54:31 PM): ok hope im not too late,
fladrifv (4:54:33 PM): http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/
meepodmaim (4:54:36 PM): I'll be curious as to his opinions on 4.0.  I'm not that impressed so far but haven't yet played it
VardaValar1 (4:54:43 PM): Not late at all
VardaValar1 (4:54:51 PM): Played 3.4?
VardaValar1 (4:55:13 PM): So far, no one is especially happy with 4.0 changes that I've heard.
VardaValar1 (4:55:29 PM): Thanks Fladrif!
meepodmaim (4:55:43 PM): Great site!!  I miss those kind of games!
VardaValar1 (4:55:44 PM): You've probably just enriched the days for some people. : )
VardaValar1 (4:55:58 PM): Don't have to miss them. Fladrif is into them quite a bit.
meepodmaim (4:56:16 PM): my sweety and I played lots of those Sierra games on our first 'puter
VardaValar1 (4:56:37 PM): *winces at the thought of Sierra, but goes on*
VardaValar1 (4:56:50 PM): Sounds like good times. : )
fladrifv (4:57:09 PM): how about the monkey island series?
meepodmaim (4:57:52 PM): I remember it but I dont believe we played that one.  THe titles escape my mind, but this is good nostalgia for sure.
meepodmaim (4:58:19 PM): that was lucas, right?  Monkey Island?
fladrifv (4:58:45 PM): aye
fladrifv (5:01:24 PM): a list for you to remember the titles
meepodmaim (5:01:27 PM): perfect
VardaValar1 (5:01:29 PM): Handy!
VardaValar1 (5:02:53 PM): WoW reports next.
VardaValar1 (5:03:40 PM): Lothar:
VardaValar1 (5:04:05 PM): We've been running mostly my family lately, and operating a lot using the Valar friend channel
VardaValar1 (5:04:19 PM): Arwen has been in there with us too
VardaValar1 (5:04:42 PM): She often comes to these meetings, Bard, so you'll probably meet her later on. : )
VardaValar1 (5:05:50 PM): Uldaman:
VardaValar1 (5:06:19 PM): We've been running some Horde characters too, not nearly as much, and have good intentions to amass a few more gold to the bank opening.
VardaValar1 (5:06:37 PM): We are raggedly poor Horde, but we'll get there. : )
meepodmaim (5:07:24 PM): Expecting a resurgence with the expansion (is it OK for me to talk during announcements?)
meepodmaim (5:07:27 PM): ?
VardaValar1 (5:07:44 PM): That is WoW news, right? : )
VardaValar1 (5:08:00 PM): I don't really expect a resurgence of Valar with the expansion.
meepodmaim (5:09:07 PM) has left the room.
meepodmaim (5:09:35 PM) has entered the room.
meepodmaim (5:09:54 PM): (oops, sorry, overactive Escape key...)
fladrifv (5:10:33 PM): I will rejoin for a month with the new exp
VardaValar1 (5:10:34 PM): hehe
fladrifv (5:10:43 PM): finish it and drop wow again
VardaValar1 (5:11:08 PM): A lot of what makes a game interesting is the people.
VardaValar1 (5:11:20 PM): If you don't have that, any game gets old fast.
meepodmaim (5:11:47 PM): very true
VardaValar1 (5:12:28 PM): Eonwe, did you have more to add on WoW?
Eonwe Valar (5:14:33 PM): Not really. My internet has been acting up this week, so I wasn't able to even log in this Friday.
VardaValar1 (5:14:39 PM): ouch!
VardaValar1 (5:14:47 PM): We did look for you Friday. : )
VardaValar1 (5:15:06 PM): Thanks for coming into LotRO on Mondays. Figured I'd return the favor for Fridays. : )
Eonwe Valar (5:15:12 PM): Aside from that, I am on just about every Friday on WoW, sometimes during the week too as my schedule allows.
VardaValar1 (5:16:39 PM): Bard was asking what you thought the coming Lich-king expansion, how it might affect the guild?
Eonwe Valar (5:17:27 PM): I'm not expecting a huge rush from LotRO back to WoW, if that's any indication :}
Eonwe Valar (5:17:45 PM): I will continue to keep the light on in Lothar though.
Eonwe Valar (5:18:30 PM): I think the ability to do 10-man versions of all raids is promising though.
VardaValar1 (5:18:39 PM): New people might be found on WoW who would enjoy casual, pleasant gaming.
VardaValar1 (5:18:51 PM): We can 50-man some of the earlier ones now.
VardaValar1 (5:19:24 PM): oops
VardaValar1 (5:19:30 PM): That was 5-man
Eonwe Valar (5:20:19 PM): Anything is possible.
VardaValar1 (5:20:37 PM): I've met a few on my lowbie that might join, but I am no longer actively recruiting on WoW since I am mainly LotRO.
VardaValar1 (5:20:59 PM): It is not an impossibility. People start new guilds all the time.
VardaValar1 (5:21:23 PM): Moving on
VardaValar1 (5:21:40 PM): Arien, have you seen any of the Valar folk over there in WoW Europe?
VardaValar1 (5:22:03 PM): Pharazon and Menelvagor are traveling, of course, so probably not them.
AriehnV (5:23:45 PM): I ve got a small report of naughtiness from bloodoof server where Helm-V causes havoc with my other guildies amongst the Horde.
VardaValar1 (5:24:11 PM): Egad! *Gilbrennil the Tauren snorts and paws front hooves*
AriehnV (5:24:37 PM): ah Tauren .. what do you have to do with Undead?
VardaValar1 (5:24:55 PM): I play with them. And I have Bridhil, Forsaken Priest.
AriehnV (5:25:12 PM): *chuckles * . vermin
VardaValar1 (5:25:28 PM): A little perfume, a few proper wrappings....
VardaValar1 (5:25:45 PM): Ok, a lot of perfume.
VardaValar1 (5:25:59 PM): *dumps gallon bucket*
AriehnV (5:26:39 PM): One of your precious villages , Tarren Mill was successfully invaded by six of our warriors, that isd mainly hunters, one warrior (my Ardanna ) and one Paladin , plus reinforcements i picked up in General chat.
VardaValar1 (5:27:06 PM): *never liked the Tarren Mill grumps anyway*
AriehnV (5:27:12 PM): so we wer ten strong fighters , one
AriehnV (5:27:50 PM): We took out  guards , the High Executioner whatso ever and the Flightmaster with his pets
VardaValar1 (5:28:25 PM): The Flightmaster! argh. That's quite an accomplishment.
AriehnV (5:28:46 PM): him wd kept down to make travelling impossible , so defenders had to ride in over Gallows Corner
AriehnV (5:28:53 PM): *chuckles*
AriehnV (5:29:44 PM): of course some quest givers and the inkeeper but we stayed mostly close to the flightmaster to keep him out
AriehnV (5:30:03 PM): it took a good six minutes until defenders turned up and rode in
AriehnV (5:30:31 PM): unforftunately their gear was much better than hours , so they no trouble in fending us off
AriehnV (5:30:46 PM): - h
meepodmaim (5:30:49 PM): I do miss the open battlefields of WoW, befor ethe battlegrounds came along.  Ahh good times!
VardaValar1 (5:31:54 PM): Hah! Flightmaster's revenge!
AriehnV (5:31:56 PM): but we had a fun time there in Taren and i am quite proud of our achievement, between Ardanna and Helm s Calgacus with Lokii his pet we did a good job i think
VardaValar1 (5:32:37 PM): They still have open battles. Astranaar was under attack last time I was on.
VardaValar1 (5:33:20 PM): Lothar is a Normal server.
VardaValar1 (5:33:47 PM): We prefer people not kill our Flight Masters and quest givers if they attack, not fair to those who don't do any pvp.
AriehnV (5:34:16 PM): thats why we disappeared after five mins
VardaValar1 (5:34:25 PM): Well said
AriehnV (5:34:29 PM): i dont want to anger the players just having a bit fun
AriehnV (5:34:38 PM): and they do the same to us so ;P)
VardaValar1 (5:34:43 PM): Wake up the players : )
VardaValar1 (5:34:55 PM): As long as both sides keep it in fun and not too long, no worries. : )
AriehnV (5:35:14 PM): *nods *
VardaValar1 (5:35:33 PM): Arien, you play a wee bit of LotRO
AriehnV (5:35:50 PM): yes i did  and do
VardaValar1 (5:36:05 PM): Think you might want to drop in and try the Festival?
VardaValar1 (5:36:08 PM): It's going now
VardaValar1 (5:36:40 PM): New stuff they haven't had in previous festivals, new mounts, new quests, new fishing for barter
VardaValar1 (5:36:50 PM): Bard helped me get a new dress that way. Thanks!
VardaValar1 (5:36:57 PM): The Ceremonial Dress
VardaValar1 (5:37:24 PM): And new dances
meepodmaim (5:37:52 PM): I'm currently in position for another 3 AM dancathon
VardaValar1 (5:37:56 PM): It looks like the same racial dances, but they are supposed to have some way to synchonize, improve our group dancing.
VardaValar1 (5:38:01 PM): lol
VardaValar1 (5:38:35 PM): I am still in Celondim fishing, want the flowers for my  house.  ; )
VardaValar1 (5:39:16 PM): In LotRO, we have also been doing a number of high level runs, often with friends in other guilds, so it's not a pug.
VardaValar1 (5:39:36 PM): That means we are picking up a lot of good experience in different ways of tackling the instances.
VardaValar1 (5:40:00 PM): Beleg was in one Helegrod group while Amroth and I were in another [Helegrod group] at the same time.
VardaValar1 (5:40:10 PM): Right now, Irmo and Miriel are running the Rift [update: their group killed the Balrog, and the trophy, Thaurlach's Blade, went to the Valar kinhouse.]
VardaValar1 (5:40:30 PM): I might be on standby for the Rift tonight with Amroth [update: Varda went with the remainders of the Helegrod group to the Rift, picked up the Fiery Crystal and got the Rift bow]
VardaValar1 (5:40:45 PM): Get enough of us on at the same time, we are formidable. : )
AriehnV (5:41:13 PM): oki logging in jsut had to say good night to my surviviors
VardaValar1 (5:41:35 PM): Survivors of?
AriehnV (5:41:49 PM): of my guild who where still online
VardaValar1 (5:41:56 PM): okies
fladrifv (5:42:03 PM): a midnight sun burn....
VardaValar1 (5:42:25 PM): Good thing we have Fladrif for shade!
VardaValar1 (5:42:48 PM): Bard, did you want to add anything to the LotRO report?
VardaValar1 (5:43:10 PM): Oh, Ancalagon has been back more, despite a rough schedule.
meepodmaim (5:43:13 PM): nope!
VardaValar1 (5:43:18 PM): ok, thanks
top

VardaValar1 (5:43:21 PM): Tolkien:
VardaValar1 (5:43:36 PM): Bard had an interesting question while we were in LotRO.
meepodmaim (5:43:41 PM): I'm relatively new to the level cap, so raids and such have been out of my scope
VardaValar1 (5:44:06 PM): For a people who are fading away, elves seem to be a strong presence in LotR.
VardaValar1 (5:44:28 PM): What signs do we see of their fading?
VardaValar1 (5:45:16 PM): (May help to have read the Sil, but LotR readers can figure some of these too.)
VardaValar1 (5:45:43 PM): What would we expect to see in a vigorously prospering group?
meepodmaim (5:46:16 PM): I only have a 1st grade education on the simarillion.  One day, one day...
Eonwe Valar (5:46:35 PM): Children would be one thing.
VardaValar1 (5:46:38 PM): Just in speculation, what would a prospering civilization show?
VardaValar1 (5:46:43 PM): Good point
VardaValar1 (5:47:08 PM): When an elf of Legolas' age is considered one of the young ones, and so few, elves should be worried.
VardaValar1 (5:48:05 PM): We don't see a lot of little elflings racing around Rivendell.
Eonwe Valar (5:48:10 PM): When you stop having children, you stop having a future.
VardaValar1 (5:48:14 PM): Aye.
VardaValar1 (5:48:36 PM): Apparently the Silvan elves were continuing to have children, but the Noldor and Sindar were not.
fladrifv (5:48:57 PM): how can that be they had elve wives...
VardaValar1 (5:49:37 PM): Wives who weren't having children.
VardaValar1 (5:49:48 PM): Galadriel had one daughter in all those years.
AriehnV (5:49:57 PM): and two suns
AriehnV (5:50:01 PM): ere sone
AriehnV (5:50:05 PM): sons
AriehnV (5:50:08 PM):
VardaValar1 (5:50:13 PM): What sons?
AriehnV (5:50:25 PM): oh sorry that was Elrond
VardaValar1 (5:50:29 PM): A sun slip from the sun, makes sense. : )
Eonwe Valar (5:50:30 PM): Arwen, Elrond's youngest child, was born TA 1000
AriehnV (5:50:34 PM): Elrond had three childreen
VardaValar1 (5:50:40 PM): Elrond was also part human, not all elf.
VardaValar1 (5:51:18 PM): Celebrian went to the West, stopped him from doing more than continue adopting the descendents of his twin, Elros.
Eonwe Valar (5:51:35 PM): Pardon, scratch that, TA 241. Don't know why I thought it was TA 1000.
VardaValar1 (5:51:56 PM): 1000 is the perfect number? : )
VardaValar1 (5:53:04 PM): The elves stagnated, using their Rings to keep their homes as they had always been, and defending them, rather than building more.
VardaValar1 (5:53:28 PM): Thranduil's people had no Ring, and a constant enemy.
VardaValar1 (5:54:13 PM): That enemy kept them from growing as they probably would have, forcing them into a corner.
VardaValar1 (5:54:44 PM): The only growth we see is after the War, when a colony of Mirkwood elves moves into Ithilien.
VardaValar1 (5:55:02 PM): But that was countered by the loss of Lothlorien.
VardaValar1 (5:55:28 PM): Any other signs of a civilization fading?
meepodmaim (5:55:30 PM): the mirkwood elves didnt go west?
VardaValar1 (5:55:37 PM): No - they didn't.
VardaValar1 (5:56:06 PM): Some of the Lothlorien silvan elves lived in southern Mirkwood, but they left Lothlorien to fade away.
VardaValar1 (5:56:39 PM): The Sindarin elves in Mirkwood took up a lot of Silvan ways, so they were close to nature too.
VardaValar1 (5:56:51 PM): But most of the Sindar had been lost in the Last Alliance.
VardaValar1 (5:57:04 PM): The Silvans remained.
VardaValar1 (5:57:22 PM): Some say they faded into the trees, after Man took over.
VardaValar1 (5:58:11 PM): The Noldor always had a longing for the Sea, a constant thing.
VardaValar1 (5:58:38 PM): The Sindar were ok unless they saw the Sea, then they had a powerful need to sail.
VardaValar1 (5:59:19 PM): The Silvans had never been to Valinor nor associated with the Maiar and Valar except through the teaching of the Sindar that they took as leaders.
VardaValar1 (5:59:35 PM): They believed in finding mentors, but not in leaving Middle-earth.
VardaValar1 (6:00:45 PM): It's been two hours since the meeting started. Shall we adjourn now?
VardaValar1 (6:01:08 PM): Fade away...?
AriehnV (6:01:13 PM): hehe
AriehnV (6:01:58 PM): just to mention .. there is a description of Galadriel in LoTR part 1 just before the fellow ship leaves Loth lorien
AriehnV (6:02:11 PM): in *Galadriels mirrior*
AriehnV (6:02:55 PM): Where frodo saw here *as Elves sometimes appeared in later days to mankind * or something .. got the book handy Varda|?
AriehnV (6:03:11 PM): just after he had seen ring
VardaValar1 (6:03:15 PM): I'll pull it out, aye. : )
AriehnV (6:03:53 PM): her ring i mean
AriehnV (6:04:16 PM): sorry my typing is not very good .. tonight especially
VardaValar1 (6:05:04 PM): I found where he saw her Ring
AriehnV (6:05:47 PM): a bit towards the end of the chapter .. there is the vision when she shows herself as *Dark Lady*
AriehnV (6:06:44 PM): then slightly after that i think when she refuses the ring
AriehnV (6:07:20 PM): anyone else who can remember the passage i mean?
VardaValar1 (6:07:29 PM): I think I found it
VardaValar1 (6:07:36 PM): Galadriel makes a comment
VardaValar1 (6:08:02 PM): that if Frodo succeeds, then
VardaValar1 (6:08:40 PM): "We must depart into the West or dwindle to a rustic folk of dell and cave, and slowly to forget and be forgotten."
VardaValar1 (6:08:46 PM): Good call, Arien!
VardaValar1 (6:09:15 PM): It's shortly before the Dark Lady
VardaValar1 (6:11:02 PM): One she says on elf nature is
VardaValar1 (6:11:56 PM): "The love of the Elves for their land and their works is deeper than the deeps of the Sea, and their regret is undying and cannot ever be wholly assuaged."
VardaValar1 (6:12:14 PM): Go ahead, Arien, you were about to type?
AriehnV (6:13:29 PM): this was a good reference and surely fits what you quoted  Butr it was not the passage i meant but i cant remember now .. i ll jneed to reread or search through myself
AriehnV (6:14:18 PM): gray stuff is not quite as supple as it used to be when i was younger
AriehnV (6:16:57 PM): ah found it
AriehnV (6:17:10 PM): its at the end of the chapter
VardaValar1 (6:17:12 PM): Just guessing at what you meant.
AriehnV (6:17:45 PM): never mind
AriehnV (6:17:59 PM): its fitting enough
AriehnV (6:18:03 PM):
VardaValar1 (6:18:15 PM): Go ahead and quote it?
AriehnV (6:21:33 PM): nope sorry wrong again .. go on and close the meeting down i think  the hour is late
VardaValar1 (6:21:50 PM): Perhaps it was in the next chapter
AriehnV (6:21:52 PM): i ll have a look during the week and find it for next time
VardaValar1 (6:22:03 PM): "Farewell to Lorien"
meepodmaim (6:22:04 PM): Don't mind my idling, my elf knowledge is pretty sparse!
VardaValar1 (6:22:16 PM): It'll increase hanging around us. : )
meepodmaim (6:22:23 PM): but this is educational
VardaValar1 (6:22:40 PM): I liked re-reading the bit about Gimli after leaving Lorien.
VardaValar1 (6:23:14 PM): His chief fear had been torment in the dark, yet he came despite it.
VardaValar1 (6:23:31 PM): He would not have come had he known the peril of light and joy.
VardaValar1 (6:23:39 PM): He means the parting from it.
VardaValar1 (6:24:24 PM): This conversation sounds like the seed that came up when Gimli went to Valinor with Legolas so he could have more than a memory of Galadriel.
VardaValar1 (6:24:54 PM): It's right after the poetry by Galadriel when they row their canoes away.
VardaValar1 (6:25:24 PM): Reminds me, digression, that JRRT loved stories of "red Indians"
VardaValar1 (6:25:34 PM): The nature love they had.
VardaValar1 (6:26:24 PM): ok, let's adjourn.
VardaValar1 (6:26:30 PM): *bangs gavel*
VardaValar1 (6:26:45 PM): Pardon, Fladrif, was that your knee instead of the table?
VardaValar1 (6:27:13 PM): I need to see to supper, then hope for some LotRO time.
VardaValar1 (6:27:25 PM): Farewell until later. : )
Eonwe Valar (6:27:35 PM): Namarië.
meepodmaim (6:27:48 PM): THank you for letting me sit in, even if I didn't say much!
VardaValar1 (6:27:51 PM): heh, trouble saving window. Slight delay
meepodmaim (6:28:02 PM): I'll pick it up
VardaValar1 (6:28:03 PM): Hey, you started us talking! Invaluable!
VardaValar1: got it!
VardaValar1: Namarie this time. Maybe see you in LotRO.
VardaValar1 has left the room.
meepodmaim: Indeed!
meepodmaim: Thank you everyone, see you next Sunday!
meepodmaim has left the room.
AriehnV: Namairie
AriehnV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: For the meeting record, Arien found the passage, message as follows:
Eonwe Valar: AriehnV: found the pasage finally with the description of Garladriel .. Varda was right it was in the next chapter , as they mett the Swan Ship on the river and Galadriel sings her song
Eonwe Valar: *Already she seemed to him, as by men of later times Elves are seen : present and yet remote, a living version of that which has already been left far behind by the flowing streams of Time."
fladrifv has left the room.
