Before-meeting:
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
ArPharazonV: Aiya :-)
ArPharazonV: I'm in Starcraft right now, beating up some Zerg, or being beaten up by Zerg if my attack fails...
VardaValar1: Stay alive :-)
VardaValar1: My digital clocks and computers' clocks all reset to an hour earlier. Battery clocks still show an hour to meeting. Thanks. :-)
VardaValar1: Stay alive!
ArPharazonV: Fladrif has to get up early tomorrow so he'll not be available for the meeting today
VardaValar1: okie dokie, thanks again
VardaValar1 has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: hey hey :-D
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Menelvagor Valar: How's it going?
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Menel and Phar : )
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Time to start invitations, looks like.
Glorfindel VG has entered the room.
arwenv1 has entered the room.
Hobbitlass19 has entered the room.
arwenv1: Hello :-)
VardaValar1: Aiya Glorfindel, Arwen, and Amaranth : )
Glorfindel VG: hoy
Hobbitlass19: This is the first meeting I've ever been to, folks. Nice to see you all!
VardaValar1: Great to have you with us!
VardaValar1: Other people in the USA may be having the same nutty problem I did with all digital equipment.
AriehnV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: It's all set to daylight savings time the way it was before the government did a bit of legislation this year to change the date.
VardaValar1: Aiya Arien. : )
AriehnV: aiya all :-D let me just eat first waas healing in gnomsi with the priest
VardaValar1: *ducks out of the way in case she is using a hobbit form*
VardaValar1: Who is present? Please say aye
VardaValar1: Aye
Hobbitlass19: Aye
VardaValar1: This does not bode well. : )
VardaValar1: Let's start while they're not looking, Amaranth!
Hobbitlass19: *Twilight Zone theme begins to play*
top

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
ArPharazonV: Aiya all
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: Phar has shown back up from under the zergling pile. : )
ArPharazonV: hmm, I'm not getting a sound when messages are put in here...
VardaValar1: Check your speaker?
ArPharazonV: my sound is fine, it's just my aim settings..
VardaValar1: This is Amaranth's first meeting, so she gets to see how we attempt to handle them.
VardaValar1: See dictionary under "Organized chaos".
ArPharazonV: ok, it should work now
Menelvagor Valar: organized madness is how I would describe it at times *grin*
VardaValar1: Beleg re-injured his back and may have to have surgery.
Menelvagor Valar: Especially when Pharzie and me are mentally present :-D
VardaValar1: He said he intends to be back in LotRO anyway.
Hobbitlass19: Hehe. Don't mind me if I disappear into the background and observe from a distance. :-)
VardaValar1: We'd much rather you join in. : )
Menelvagor Valar: Oh look, we actually have already started... see... this is the madness I was talking about :-D
VardaValar1: At the end of each section, the chair calls for others to bring up info that hasn't already been presented, or add to what has.
Menelvagor Valar: *is quiet for a short while*
Hobbitlass19: As long as I don't get too overwhelmed or confused, I surely will join in.
VardaValar1: How can we operate without Menel's background chat?
VardaValar1: If you are overwhelmed by some peculiar thing, just let us know and we'll try to help. : )
VardaValar1: Any other Membership news? Birthdays, bar mitzvahs, new computers?
ArPharazonV: new harddisk!
Menelvagor Valar: Or go quiet so we can downgrade the overwhelmingness.
VardaValar1: Yay hard disk!
ArPharazonV: but back to my old computer
VardaValar1: Is that good, Phar?
ArPharazonV: sure
ArPharazonV: though I have a feeling some stuff is still wrong, or slow, or whatever... but I can't put my finger on any cause
Menelvagor Valar: Have you been able to salvage the data from the old disk?
ArPharazonV: I have
AriehnV: back
VardaValar1: My big gaming computer is still blue screening on start-up, but I use the smaller one.
VardaValar1: Welcome back, Arien. : )
ArPharazonV: but the firefox bookmarks mysteriously disappeared, everything else is safe though
VardaValar1: Now you get to collect all shiny new bookmarks!
Menelvagor Valar: go firefox! disappearing like a crappy ... erm... program is supposed to do.
VardaValar1: language : )
VardaValar1: (He just wanted me to say that)
Menelvagor Valar: I didn't think there was anything bad about crappy...
ArPharazonV: yes, indeed, I reloaded the old internet explorer bookmarks into it, but I lost like a year of bookmarks.. allows for a great big cleanup though
Menelvagor Valar: Now if I had said sh... nah, won't say it.
Menelvagor Valar: will imply it though *grins for Varda*
Glorfindel VG: gandalf's used worse language
VardaValar1: O joy.
VardaValar1: And orcs said *whispers* "Garn!"
Menelvagor Valar: It's the same thing, but in a different language.
VardaValar1: We make an attempt at using "company manners".
VardaValar1: Could mean darn? : )
Menelvagor Valar: if I said verdammt nochmal it would still be bad language :-D
VardaValar1: And only half of us would understand it.
VardaValar1: The others could easily guess.
VardaValar1: Language, an amazing thing.
Menelvagor Valar: considering the line of conversation, anyone would easily guess *giggle*
VardaValar1: Too true!
VardaValar1: So it really means starry starry night... Nope, won't wash.
Menelvagor Valar: *goes to fetch the green soap!*
VardaValar1: So, no one else had a real life event they want to mention? : )
arwenv1: I dont know if I mentioned
arwenv1: that I got a new computer a few weeks ago
VardaValar1: ohh, wonderful!
VardaValar1: Can you tell a difference, Super-priest of Lothar?
arwenv1: Very much so!
VardaValar1: What jumped out at you?
arwenv1: I was able to play WoW at max graphics
arwenv1: It looks like a whole new game!
VardaValar1: Fantastic : )
AriehnV: i know the feeling :-)
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Eonwe! Welcome!
AriehnV: i ve got a new machine too since my old lap died
arwenv1: I went from having to play at absolute minimum, to max.. its amazing :-)
arwenv1: Hello Eonwe :-)
AriehnV: welcome Eonwe :-)
Eonwe Valar: Heya
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya Eonwe.
VardaValar1: Eonwe and everybody, since this is Amaranth-(V)'s first meeting,
Eonwe Valar: Heya and Welcome then, to Amaranth :}
VardaValar1: we are about to call on her to do an old tradition, the famous (or infamous) saying "a few words" to introduce herself.
VardaValar1: Amaranth, your floor. : )
Hobbitlass19: Thank you, thank you. Hmm, let's see. I'm a senior in high school from South Carolina. I've been a fan of LOTR for about 6 years, and I'm a fairly new gaming convert brought in by LOTRO.
Hobbitlass19: And no, Varda, I'm definitely not married with ten kids. :P
VardaValar1: *chuckles* Always gets a response.
Eonwe Valar: Hehe
Eonwe Valar: What part of South Carolina, if I may ask?
AriehnV has left the room.
Hobbitlass19: Central area
AriehnV has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Ah. I used to live in the "Low Country" I beleive they like to call it :}
Eonwe Valar: *believe
Hobbitlass19: That's interesting. I'm not too familiar with that area myself.
Eonwe Valar: It's basically a chunk of land probably about sea level. They made a point of showing us videos in graed school about it and such, videos that I don't quite remember now except for the word "Sandlapper," hehehe.
Eonwe Valar: *grade school
VardaValar1: What does Sandlapper mean?
VardaValar1: Never heard it before.
Eonwe Valar: Think it would roughly cut a line somewhere around the state capital, everything below would be the "low country."
mordacil has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Aerandir!
mordacil: aiya
Hobbitlass19: It's pretty bad that I didn't know this and I live there, heh.
Eonwe Valar: Well, if memory serves me, a Sandlapper would be a person living in the Low Country :} Presumably because of the sand? But as I said, I don't recall those videos very well they showed us in grade school.
VardaValar1: Thanks, a new word for today!
ArPharazonV: you've sealed your fate, Eonwe
VardaValar1: Can't say we're not educational.
ArPharazonV: we'll always call you "sandlapper" from now on..
Eonwe Valar: Bah, I'm a Texan now :}
VardaValar1: Go Texas!
Eonwe Valar: See, fixed that quick :}
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: somehow, every American in the Guild tends to end up in Texas eventually...
VardaValar1: And some non-Americans. Hey, it's the place to be!
Menelvagor Valar: Not quite.
Menelvagor Valar: I happen to know a Texan who relocated to Holland *grin*
VardaValar1: Give them time.
VardaValar1: Right, she already saw Texas, so she was able to move on. Miriel :-)
Eonwe Valar: hehe
VardaValar1: On to Web News:
ArPharazonV: Miriel.. elf or human?
Menelvagor Valar: or she got quite fed up with it and thought she'd give Holland a shot... check whether it was any better *evil, evil, evil grin*
VardaValar1: Numenorean. : )
ArPharazonV: my queen!
VardaValar1: Aye : )
ArPharazonV: somewhere in the Netherlands, eh... *searches*
Menelvagor Valar: Don't let Irmo hear that *giggle*
VardaValar1: Watch out for Irmo!
Menelvagor Valar: Oooooh!
Menelvagor Valar: Now I know why you went for Valinor!
Menelvagor Valar: You wanted to challenge Irmo for Miriel...
ArPharazonV: take out the competition from Irmo?
ArPharazonV: right
Menelvagor Valar: didn't pan out right though.
VardaValar1: The hidden back story!
AriehnV: ah and i guess why you went to Valinor or tried to , phara?
VardaValar1: Reasons he had to be drowned.
ArPharazonV: pff, she was in Numenor at the time.... I didn't fear Irmo then
Eonwe Valar: (Looks like it's safe to continue meeting :})
top

VardaValar1: Web news:
Menelvagor Valar: Oh, and a word of apology to Amaranth... this is one of our more infamous lengthy meetings.
VardaValar1: I have no new web news.
VardaValar1: however,
VardaValar1: I wanted to ask Eonwe,
Hobbitlass19: Ah, no matter. It's entertaining. :-)
VardaValar1: if I add meta tags for the stories section with characters or character (his preference) could we use a search in Stories for characters?
VardaValar1: I intend to add the title tag as we are trying to do for articles.
VardaValar1: Eonwe says he's getting lag.
VardaValar1: Anyway, we're still working on the Search engines. A lot of the hold-up is me adding meta-tags. : )
Eonwe Valar: Well, I could arrange the search engine to also work for the stories page without the meta tags. I'm still working out some bugs with the search program though for its next version.
Eonwe Valar: character singular would probably be easier for now.
VardaValar1: I was trying to go through and add the tags, but need to keep them consistent. Ok, wondered since I keep trying to type "characters" instead. : )
VardaValar1: character it is!
VardaValar1: Could do a separate Search engine for stories if that would help.
VardaValar1: For the whole guild,
Eonwe Valar: characters plural could be done, but then the search program would end up having useless returns in other subjects, i.e.
VardaValar1: we need to have articles and stories from you, not just look outside.
VardaValar1: ahh, ok. But that was why I was suggesting it as a meta tag.
AriehnV: ok , i promise and i will keep it no wow tomorrow
VardaValar1: Why are you promising that, Arien?
Eonwe Valar: "Phial of Galadriel," by result of design, would return results for "Phial," "of," and "Galadriel" as well as the results for the phrase.
AriehnV: you will get the completed copied and edited versfion of the story i indicated long ago
VardaValar1: Woot!
VardaValar1: We'll look forward to it!
AriehnV: :-)
VardaValar1: Eonwe, is that true even if we put quotes around the phrase?
VardaValar1: As long as it gives the phrase too, that works. The others are just gravy : )
Eonwe Valar: The initial way I would design it would be like that at least.
VardaValar1: Arien, you can play games after you send the story. ;-)
Eonwe Valar: The way I have it now, you type what you're looking for, it searches for that exactly.
AriehnV: true :-D
Hobbitlass19: I still haven't gotten the interview project back from my teacher, Varda. I'm hoping this will be the week for it. Soon as I do it will go off to you.
VardaValar1: Arien, consider it treating yourself.
VardaValar1: Thanks, Amaranth!
AriehnV: will do
Eonwe Valar: So if you just want any reference to, say, "Qorinomi," type that and anywhere that word is *should* be found.
VardaValar1: Eonwe, you are trying to make the Search more general than before?
Eonwe Valar: Hmm? General as in?
Eonwe Valar: Available for all of th eTolkien site, not just the encyclopedia?
VardaValar1: All parts for the phrase, rather than just the phrase.
Eonwe Valar: I'm saying that as a result of coding it to work for multiple characters at once, that is what would happen.
VardaValar1: ahh, ok
VardaValar1: So each character has to have a separate meta tag?
Eonwe Valar: Not unlike any other search engine, but I always thought it was annoying to be looking for a phrase and then get a match on google that only matched the word "a".
VardaValar1: (Long as I know and don't have to re-do it later.)
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Nonono, you can group all the characters into one meta-tag.
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: *blesses Eonwe*
VardaValar1: So just use the word character not characters. No worries.
Eonwe Valar: No.
VardaValar1: (not batting 500)
Eonwe Valar: I think I said something confusing somewhere..
VardaValar1: I start that way. : )
Eonwe Valar: I'm saying that the search program right now would be best used to only look for one character.
VardaValar1: Is this ok:
Eonwe Valar: How it looks for those characters is a separate issue.
Eonwe Valar: Essentially, if you want to find three different characters, make three separate search requests.
VardaValar1: <meta name="characters" content="Aragorn">
VardaValar1: ok, so the user should only type in one character. That's fair.
VardaValar1: The user would need more than one box to search for two characters in the same story, such as Elrohir and Ori, even on other fancy sites.
VardaValar1: But you do want the meta tag?
VardaValar1: Sorry, think I just drove off everyone else. : )
Eonwe Valar: The meta tag could be useful for other things, or maybe to save search time when searching stories, since some of those can tend to be pretty long.
VardaValar1: About to call for Gaming reports, so Arien and Phar, figure out who's going to report next. : )
VardaValar1: Aye, some of the stories are novels in a series. : )
ArPharazonV: *points at Arien* I wasn't online until... Friday, I think
VardaValar1: So put in the meta tag, but it's not really needed?
AriehnV: ok me here *smile*
VardaValar1: Eonwe and I can take it to tells. : )
top

VardaValar1: Gaming:
Eonwe Valar: It's not required, but for some reason I think it can be useful.
VardaValar1: Who has played something that is not WoW or LotRO this week?
ArPharazonV: me
VardaValar1: (Fladrif had to go to bed at a reasonable time so he can't say Chess)
VardaValar1: Phar, go ahead.
ArPharazonV: not much, though... just a bit of Starcraft this evening :-)
ArPharazonV: working hard through the Protoss campaign
ArPharazonV: them Protoss are hard to play, I must say... but I'll get there
ArPharazonV: otherwise, nothing much, spent most of my time working on replacing the harddisk etc
ArPharazonV: so my report ends, unless anyone has further questions!
VardaValar1: Glad you got it working. : )
arwenv1: :-)
VardaValar1: World of WarCrafters next! Arien, Argent Dawn server tales, please? : )
AriehnV: Argent Dawn tales :-)
AriehnV: to start with, Ardanna (my warrior) had the joy to join our ardent Druid, Morningsong with love for riddles in visiting old friends in Molten Core
AriehnV: Morningong being Menelvagor here
Menelvagor Valar: *waves*
AriehnV: it was short but crisp , unfortunately nothing useful for her but it was good reminiscing
Menelvagor Valar: It certainly was crispy.
Menelvagor Valar: I still have to pluck out a burned hair now and then.
AriehnV: *chuckles aye the armor got singed a tad
Menelvagor Valar: Magmadar sure isn't any hound, hasn't changed much that one.
AriehnV: following that undertaiking the reborn Urwendi(ta) and Helms Caractus went for the mace run
AriehnV: that is her pala mace , so we had a good run across azeroth
AriehnV: err Calgacus sorry
AriehnV: from shadowfang keep to deadmines and then Blackfathom deep with visinting the ogres first
AriehnV: overpowered as Calgacus is he would be a grace in any raid if he wants hehe
AriehnV: to conclude valarite action this week Valandils Duatharan, his rogue, joined my Ariehn in skilling their lockpicking in searing groge
AriehnV: gorge in the slagpit , he was kind enough to give her cover and discovered he himself needed practise
AriehnV: was quite a thing explaining to him where he had to go but Ariehn managed to pick Duatharan up just where the path turns off in badlands
AriehnV: so we had some entertainment with dark iron dwarves while picking the locks
AriehnV: i had the task to cull the competion ..
AriehnV: so very useful nhight that was and thus endetrh my report
VardaValar1: Thank you, Arien and Menelvagor. : )
Menelvagor Valar: They seem to be getting a lot of competition down there.
Menelvagor Valar: I've been culling their competition for over 2 years now *grin*
VardaValar1: Eonwe, do you have a story of the doings on Lothar server?
Eonwe Valar: Well, Dracxil and I have mostly been doing the new dailies. He just got his epic flying training this week, so now we're working on the Netherwing dailies as well.
Eonwe Valar: I've seen Bilbo, Elwing, Eowyn, and Sauron on as well.
VardaValar1: Sauron's Thauron is about to max tailoring. Be sure to bug him for stuff if you need it.
VardaValar1: He still considers Thauron to be Valar, just convenience to have it in a raiding guild. Most of his characters are still in the guild.
VardaValar1: I was on too. : )
Eonwe Valar: I'm only 6 primal nethers from my Deep Thunder thanks to Bilbo, but I don't expect I'm too far off since all my gold can be focused elsewhere after Dracxil got his epic flying training.
VardaValar1: Woot!
mordacil has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: That's all coming to mind to report.
ArPharazonV: hard to get primal nethers now... with the badge vendor missing :-)
Eonwe Valar: No, he's relocated :}
ArPharazonV: really? I thought he didn't spawn until...
ArPharazonV: wait, what phase is Lothar in now?
Eonwe Valar: No, Geras moved to the upper area.
ArPharazonV: ahhh
Eonwe Valar: He was there since day one.
ArPharazonV: I thought he wasn't coming back until phase 3 or 4 in the Quel'danas business
Eonwe Valar: It's the new badge vendors that you have to get the armory for.
ArPharazonV: ah
Eonwe Valar: Speaking of which, we have the portal and the armory.
arwenv1: Lothar is working on the Anvil
ArPharazonV: nevermind silly me then
VardaValar1: Yay Lothar!
Eonwe Valar: and as of about 7am this morning we were somewhere around 13% for harbor on Lothar.
ArPharazonV: Argent Dawn has the portal, but about... 95% to the armory last I checked
Eonwe Valar: And aye, we're also working on the anvil.
ArPharazonV: should be done somewhere tomorrow, it's going rather slow, but sunday evenings are usually crowded, so it might happen tonight
mordacil has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: when I log in tomorrow we should be working on the harbor in any case
Eonwe Valar: Quite likely.
Eonwe Valar: Anyway, that really is everything coming to mind to report now, heh.
VardaValar1: Thanks, Eonwe. : )
arwenv1: :-)
VardaValar1: Uldaman server:
VardaValar1: Elwing was distracted by us on the Lothar server when she meant to merely check her mail and stayed.
VardaValar1: I tried to get on Uldaman server, undoubtedly shocking my comp into having Blue Screens of Death at the strangeness. I'll try again on the other comp. : )
VardaValar1: Go Horde! :-)
VardaValar1: *ducks*
VardaValar1: On to LotRO!
AriehnV: *giggles*
AriehnV: my lock has her succubus
AriehnV: ;-)
VardaValar1: Nice job!
VardaValar1: Amaranth, as a new voice with a couple of LotRO characters, you've had time to have some impressions of the game. How is it?
VardaValar1: Is it pretty true to the books? More like the movies?
Hobbitlass19: Overall, I have been very impressed. Of course, I have no other experience with MMOs, but the size and the complexity amazed me.
Hobbitlass19: The attention to lore details has been a very nice touch.
VardaValar1: Menelvagor, you're new to LotRO but used to WoW. Any impressions?
Hobbitlass19: Getting some lag here as well; sorry.
Menelvagor Valar: Hmmm...
Menelvagor Valar: Well, I haven't gotten very far yet...
VardaValar1: You can talk back and forth if you like. : )
Menelvagor Valar: But from what I've seen...
Menelvagor Valar: It sticks pretty close to the lore, and where it does not, it skirts so close to the lore that it is hardly noticable.
Menelvagor Valar: There are striking similarities between LotRO and WoW, especially in character gameplay.
Menelvagor Valar: But the differences are numerous and honestly, from what I have seen so far, very ingenious.
Menelvagor Valar: The deed system for example, where you explore, kill, or simply complete quests, which, when completed give you a potential buff that will increase your resistance (to one thing or another), regeneration and loads of other things.
Menelvagor Valar: It's been an awesome experience so far.
VardaValar1: And Menel has been fun to have along. : )
Menelvagor Valar: plus, of course, the added bonus of finally being able to play with you Americans after 3 *beeptibeep* years of waiting.
Menelvagor Valar: That, of course, is the one thing that makes it excel way beyond WoW.
VardaValar1: Now if we could get all the Europeans to come in at the same time, you would all have a blast. : )
VardaValar1: Arien, Menel, Irmo, Miriel are off the top of my head.
Menelvagor Valar: Well, I have already done some questing with Arien and Miriel :-)
AriehnV: :-D indeed
VardaValar1: Yay!
Menelvagor Valar: We were doing some quests around the Combe area, retrieving some valuables from brigans nearby, as well as going into the Midgewater Marshes to explore some old ruins...
Menelvagor Valar: and getting some irksome spiders out of the way while we were there.
VardaValar1: In general LotRO news, we have new content coming up for April: Book 13
VardaValar1: Eonwe has more on that. Go ahead, Eonwe. : )
Menelvagor Valar: Oh, and Arwen has signed up for a trial account as well.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks
AriehnV: .miriel went with me through the last of the epic prologues afterwards actually , and so the Burglar can pass on to book i chapter `
Menelvagor Valar: I have graciously invited her to the Kinship so she would be able to be in touch with the rest of y'all.
Eonwe Valar: My announcement directly from the Games Page, where I try to keep up with all this stuff :} :
Eonwe Valar: New Content update announced for Lord of the Rings Online: Book 13: Doom of the Last-king! Read the Developer Diary here!
AriehnV: to complete that ;
VardaValar1: Welcome to LotRO, Arwen!
Eonwe Valar: Aye, welcome :}
arwenv1: :-) Thank you
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, my link didn't copy over, one sec.
Eonwe Valar: http://lotro.turbine.com/article/523
VardaValar1: Thanks, Eonwe. :-)
Eonwe Valar: Looks like they're adding in daily quests :}
VardaValar1: o man. Never keep up now. : )
VardaValar1: WoW and LotRO must be keeping an eye on each other. : )
Hobbitlass19: It also will include, if I understand correctly, fishing!
VardaValar1: Goes back and forth, much to the joy of us players.
VardaValar1: yay!
Hobbitlass19: I must admit I'm excited about that, hehe.
VardaValar1: Aye, Amaranth. : )
VardaValar1: I'll sit beside you with a bucket of worms!
VardaValar1: Ok - maybe that sounded a bit icky, but I'll bet we can share bait. : )
AriehnV: ... fishing for ...bedfirsh i fear
AriehnV: early tomorrow
VardaValar1: Bed fishing! Nighty night!
Hobbitlass19: No problem, Varda. I like fishing; I don't mind worms.
VardaValar1: oh good. : )
ArPharazonV: Namarie, Arien!
Hobbitlass19: Good night!
VardaValar1: I even raised worms for a time. Red wigglers. ;-)
AriehnV: so i have to go for tonight :-( but it was fun as always and i will read the tolien part once you get to it :-) and a pleasure to meet you Amaranth
VardaValar1: It's up next, if you have a suggestion?
Hobbitlass19: And you as well. :-)
top

VardaValar1: Tolkien!
AriehnV: *waves abd vanishes*
Menelvagor Valar: I am afraid I will have to go out as well. Early rise tomorrow.
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Heavenly bodies we have known. Arien the driver of the sun.
ArPharazonV: namarie, Menel!
Menelvagor Valar: And as for my suggestion towards a topic...
VardaValar1: Menelvagor, swordsman of the heavens. : )
Menelvagor Valar: What do we know of Magic in ME, especially amongst Men?
Menelvagor Valar: And with that, I bid you good night and will see a lot of you tomorrow night maybe :-)
Hobbitlass19: Sleep well!
VardaValar1: Namarie!
Menelvagor Valar: Namarie!
Menelvagor Valar has left the room.
VardaValar1: That's two potential topics: heavenly bodies, magic amongst Men.
ArPharazonV: I think a fundamental concept of Middle-Earth is the actual absence of magic, it's all a matter of perception, as much of our technology would seem to a civilization from centuries back
VardaValar1: Amongst heavenly bodies, JRRT had a very unusual system, different from most.
ArPharazonV: oh, ok, let's take the heavenly bodies topic then :-)
VardaValar1: They all had steersmen.
VardaValar1: Varda sent out stars as if they were boats. She set their courses, more or less.
VardaValar1: The steersmen have minds of their own.
Hobbitlass19: Of course, before the sun and the moon, there were the Lamps and then the Trees. But that's slightly unrelated, I suppose.
VardaValar1: Tilion, for instance, wanted to be near the lovely Arien, not on the given course.
VardaValar1: It's related.
VardaValar1: The sun and moon had to replace the light of the Lamps.
VardaValar1: So the Lamps also had their influence on what was seen in the heavens.
VardaValar1: Good point, had not thought about that.
Hobbitlass19: The Lamps were destroyed before the Elves actually awoke, were they not? I'm a bit rusty on that point.
VardaValar1: Right.
VardaValar1: With so little light for the Elves, more had to be made.
VardaValar1: Stars already existed, but were few and dim.
Hobbitlass19: Then Telperion and Laurelin were made, and the Valar invited the Elves to Aman.
VardaValar1: Old ones were brought together to make constellations, brighter spots if you will.
VardaValar1: Then new stars of greater brightness.
VardaValar1: The elves woke under the stars, the light of them ever after seen in their eyes.
VardaValar1: Aye
Hobbitlass19: After Morgoth and Ungoliant destroyed the Trees, there were some years of darkness before the sun and the moon were set in the sky, right?
VardaValar1: Aye, reason stars had to be made. I jumped over the trees, as I should not have. They too gave light to the sky.
Hobbitlass19: But their light didn't reach Middle-earth as I understand it, only Aman.
VardaValar1: Mostly Aman, aye.
Hobbitlass19: Middle-earth only had starlight until the sun rose for the first time.
VardaValar1: What about the Moon?
VardaValar1: It rose as Fingolfin's party left the Helcaraxe and set foot on Middle-earth.
Hobbitlass19: I think the sun was seen before the moon, but I'm not 100% certain.
VardaValar1: Melkor saw the light of the Moon, and put up reeks to cover from it.
ArPharazonV: no, the moon was first, similar to the silver tree being the elder
Hobbitlass19: Really? Oh, OK. It's been a while since I've read that part. I stand corrected. :-)
VardaValar1: Melkor attacked the Moon, sending spirits of Shadow against Tilion.
VardaValar1: Tilion fought them off.
Hobbitlass19: Hence the craters, maybe? :-)
VardaValar1: ohh, likely! : )
VardaValar1: Good thought!
ArPharazonV: weren't the attacks related to the waxing and waning of the moon?
VardaValar1: After that time, Melkor and his minions all lost the power of flight.
VardaValar1: No attacks now yet it still wanes and waxes. Not sure how it relates.
ArPharazonV: hmm... not sure then
Hobbitlass19: Hmm, that's something to go look up.
VardaValar1: Melkor put too much of his strength into the earth, yet one wonders about the timing also.
VardaValar1: Thus even if Balrogs have wings and were those shadows, they can no longer fly. : )
VardaValar1: The Moon came out at the time Fingolfin set foot on Middle-earth.
VardaValar1: The Sun came out for the Awakening of Men.
ArPharazonV: the spirits of Shadow being the Balrogs? there's a thought...
VardaValar1: I agree. It is very likely that it was they.
VardaValar1: who were the spirits of Shadow.
VardaValar1: Back to the Stars, made for the Awakening of the Elves.
VardaValar1: The constellations had meaning.
VardaValar1: Anyone remember any of those?
VardaValar1: If not, feel free to look it up. : )
Hobbitlass19: Wilwarin, possibly corresponding to Cassiopeia
mordacil: the sicle of the valar, I forget the elvish name
VardaValar1: Valacirca
VardaValar1: Aye, good
mordacil: probably the big dipper
VardaValar1: Valacirca is also known as The Big Dipper and The Great Bear.
VardaValar1: In Middle-earth it was also called
VardaValar1: the Seven Stars, Sickle of the Valar, Sign of Doom, the Seven Butterflies, and the Plough.
Hobbitlass19: Remmirath, the Netted Stars, probably Pleiades
mordacil: theres a list on wikipedia with possible correlations http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valacirca#Valacirca
VardaValar1: (Named my raven Remmiwrath ;-)
Hobbitlass19: Hehe
VardaValar1: Interesting, did you use Google and that is what came up?
mordacil: I just looked to see what was posted on wikipedia about it
VardaValar1: okies, just curious
Eonwe Valar: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/stars.html to see what we have about it, and maybe find some homework assignments :}
VardaValar1: I was surprised to find that some of these things don't have articles.
VardaValar1: The info for our encyc needs to come from Tolkien's books, not copies from other sites.
VardaValar1: This reduces misinformation. : )
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, apparently, according to Wikipedia, Timbridhil is Valacrica.
Eonwe Valar: *Valacirca
VardaValar1: BoLT I has that as a name of Varda.
VardaValar1: Some names were moved around, used for more than one thing before Tolkien settled on something.
Eonwe Valar: Ok, touche, it apparently was used as both a name of Varda and a name of Valacirca in Lays of Beleriand.
VardaValar1: Does the Wiki say where it got it?
VardaValar1: ah ok
Hobbitlass19: Back on the sun and the moon: Interesting bit I found here in the Sil. Apparently Arien and Tilion were originally supposed to both be in the sky at the same time, but not together.
Hobbitlass19: They would pass back and forth across the sky from east to west, passing each other in the middle.
Hobbitlass19: But Tilion didn't follow the path he was supposed to, and he got to near to Arien and was scorched, darkening his light.
Hobbitlass19: So because of that, and also because Irmo and Este complained that no one could sleep or rest for all the light, Varda changed things around.
ArPharazonV: that would have been a sight, surely..
Eonwe Valar: No one can ever say Varda isn't flexible :}
VardaValar1: Can't please everyone. They claimed we needed some darkness for rest. : )
Eonwe Valar: Makes new stars, makes constellations, changes the courses of planetary bodies,... :}
VardaValar1: It was something like trying to do the mingling of the lights as we had before.
Eonwe Valar: Aye
Hobbitlass19: Can you imagine how confused the poor Elves who had never been to Valinor were with all these changes? I wonder what they thought.
Eonwe Valar: "Oh no! The Valar are mad again!" :}
VardaValar1: Now that could be an interesting story!
VardaValar1: Even the ones who had been there could have been confused or made nervous. : )
Hobbitlass19: I wonder how long it took their eyes to grow accustomed to the light.
Hobbitlass19: True, Varda. They weren't there at the time for it to be explained.
VardaValar1: They may have had an added burden of guilt.
Hobbitlass19: Indeed.
VardaValar1: This is a spot that looks as if the storyline changed.
Glorfindel VG has left the room.
VardaValar1: It doesn't seem as if the sun and moon course changes show up in the stories with the elves. Maybe the stories were left out as not having to do with silmarils?
VardaValar1: I need to go make supper. : )
VardaValar1: I'll leave AIM up.
Eonwe Valar: It's possible.
VardaValar1: Eonwe has the gavel and can call After-meeting at will. : )
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Seems most of the Elve's sides focus on the Silmarilli, so leaving out a few details like "The moon flew by 3 times today" doesn't seem too far-fetched..
Eonwe Valar: , given they would've already been surprised that there was a moon at all.
Eonwe Valar: And besides that, the name they gave the moon, "Rana" meaning "Wanderer" says alot too :}
ArPharazonV: Elves getting up and saying "Geeh, I wonder where the moon will go today"..
Hobbitlass19: Right. And since the Sil was more of a history, things could be left out that everyone would know about anyway, if that makes sense.
Hobbitlass19: Hehe
Hobbitlass19: Tolkien was very selective with what material he used. Obviously, there was a lot he left out, or we wouldn't have 12 volumes of the stuff. :-)
Eonwe Valar: Aye, The "Sillmarillion" doesn't mean "extensive history of the First Age," after all. It refers to a history of the Silmarilli, which, for better or worse, doesn't involve flying glowing fruit :}
Hobbitlass19: Exactly.
Eonwe Valar: Not as a primary theme, anyway :}
Hobbitlass19: I guess since it was explained in the chapter about the sun and the moon, it seemed unneccessary to bring it up again. We're expected to remember and fill in the details on our own.
ArPharazonV: well, that's what we're in this room for, isn't it? :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Hobbitlass19: Precisely!
Eonwe Valar: Anything else to add, or am I just lagging?
Eonwe Valar: I would also note, that the Elves did inded adapt to the Sun, whereas the evil creatures of Morgoth did not.
Hobbitlass19: Nothing here, really. I think I'm starting to get drowsy; I was up way too late last night, and it's clearly affecting my brain at the moment.
Eonwe Valar: *indeed, not inded
Hobbitlass19: Ah, that's a good point. I wonder if Men had lived under the stars for years before the sun came, would they have been able to adapt as well as the Elves?
Eonwe Valar: Actually, Dwarves did too.
Eonwe Valar: Can't forget about those Dwarves. They'll get mad at you if you do :}
ArPharazonV: if you toss em as well.. anyway, I should head to bed as well
Hobbitlass19: Ah, of course. When was it exactly that the Dwarves awoke in relation to all this?
Hobbitlass19: Good night!
Eonwe Valar: The woke up sometime after Elves but before Men.
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well Phar :}
Eonwe Valar: Elves didn't know what Dwarves were, and thinking they were some creation of the Enemy hunted and slew them.
Hobbitlass19: So that would mean it had to have been before the sun, then.
Eonwe Valar: Aye
ArPharazonV: I do remember that Men awoke at the first rising of the sun
Hobbitlass19: That's right; I had forgotten that. Who first made friends with the Dwarves?
ArPharazonV: so if Dwarves came into being before Men, then yes...
ArPharazonV: well, not came into being, they did that before Elves
ArPharazonV: but Dwarves *awoke* before Men, so they must have known sunless times
ArPharazonV: anyway, I'm tired, and this has probably all been said already
Eonwe Valar: That's a good question, Amaranth.
ArPharazonV: so I'll just save and send the transcript
Hobbitlass19: Sleep well!
ArPharazonV: thanks
Eonwe Valar: I don't think it says who actually realized they were a people free separate from Morgoth, like themselves, but at some point apparently the Elves did realize it.
Hobbitlass19: I know Dwarves fought with Maedhros in the Nirnaeth, but I can't remember who first made friends with them. I'll have to look it up.
ArPharazonV: I believe Caranthir and Eol both had early friendships with the Dwarves
Eonwe Valar: Let us know for the Encyclopedia if you find it. That would be a nice tidbit of information.
Hobbitlass19: Was it Finrod, perhaps? He made friends with everyone. Just guessing while I did around.
Hobbitlass19: *dig around, that is.
Eonwe Valar: The Sindar had a connection with them long before the Noldor came.
Eonwe Valar: Might've been Elu THingol, after all, since it was Dwarves who told him about Menegroth.
ArPharazonV: saved
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Phar :}
Hobbitlass19: You might be right.
ArPharazonV: if there's more to this discussion, it falls on you to save and send, Eonwe
Eonwe Valar: Now, why would I go and do a thing like that? :}
ArPharazonV: because otherwise this neat bit of conversation will be lost forever!
Eonwe Valar: Not lost to me :}
ArPharazonV: memories... too intangible
Eonwe Valar: I save the meeting too :}
ArPharazonV: ok
Eonwe Valar: Anyway, just giving you a hard time. I of course will send if necessary :}
Hobbitlass19: It doesn't seem to say. It mentions that Thingol welcomed them and that Eol and Maeglin visited them, but no word on who met them first. Ah, well.
Eonwe Valar: Elf hunting parties I'd venture :}
Eonwe Valar: Who befriended them? good question :}
Hobbitlass19: It does say that later on they were more friendly with the Noldor than any other group of Elves or Men, though.
ArPharazonV: could have been because Caranthir's territory lay right outside and he must have had plenty dealings with them
ArPharazonV: also, the whole Thingol-affair mustn't have been remembered well :-)
ArPharazonV: well, it must have been remembered well, but not as a good thing, I mean
ArPharazonV: ....I can't find my words anymore
ArPharazonV: I'm going to bed
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well :}
Eonwe Valar: Aye, the Noldor and Dwarves both revered Aulë
Hobbitlass19: True, but Caranthir couldn't stand the Dwarves, though he profited from their connections.
Hobbitlass19: Good night!
ArPharazonV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: The Noldor had most recently seen Aulë, so the Dwarves were likely eager to hear whatever they could talk about him.
Hobbitlass19: That's an interesting thought.
Eonwe Valar: er, remove "talk"
Eonwe Valar: I guess we should go ahead and bang the gavel here, those who want to escape :}
Hobbitlass19: Go ahead. I'm running out of things to say. :-)
Eonwe Valar: *Lifts giant gavel above his head and swings down upon the pad*
top

Eonwe Valar: Aftermeeting :}
Eonwe Valar: Everyone is free to come or go at their leisure.
Hobbitlass19: I think I'm going to have to head out. I'm starved, and I have some work to do for class tomorrow. It's been a very enjoyable first meeting for me; thanks everyone!
Eonwe Valar: Glad you could make it :}
Eonwe Valar: Bon apetit and good luck with your classwork :}
Hobbitlass19: Thanks; hopefully I'll be able to start making the meetings on a fairly regular basis.
Hobbitlass19: Take care, everyone! Namarie!
VardaValar1: Namarie!
Hobbitlass19 has left the room.
VardaValar1: Snuck back between making things, at least got to say bye. : )
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: Scrolled back. Excellent discussion!
VardaValar1: back to see how dinner fares.
Eonwe Valar: OK :}
arwenv1 has left the room.
mordacil has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: afk for a moment.
VardaValar1: back while programming : )
Eonwe Valar: back
VardaValar1: Aiyata :-)
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
OrodrethV has entered the room.
Oessala has entered the room.
Pallando Valar has entered the room.
OrodrethV: Hi! Meeting not start yet? ;-)
VardaValar1: Aiya
VardaValar1: How could we start without you!
VardaValar1: Aye, over and done. Wecome to After-meeting. : )
OrodrethV: Oh, hey. I hazve War3/TFT again. Back on Bnet!
VardaValar1: Yay!
OrodrethV: ...but it won't let me connect to east, so I'm on west.
VardaValar1: Wonder why not and if it's happening to everyone.
OrodrethV: No idea. I'm NOT going to venture into the cesspool of bnet forums to find out.
VardaValar1: Not needed when you can wade here instead.
Eonwe Valar: Heya Pallando :}
Eonwe Valar: Arwen helped me make my Deep Thunder, so I just got my Thunder upgraded :}
VardaValar1: My connection is slowing and slowing
VardaValar1: Congrats, Eonwe!
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: Ouch, your connection is slowing?
VardaValar1: Ys
VardaValar1: Yes
OrodrethV: 51 days until boot...
OrodrethV: So, what has Valar been up to? I'bve been trying to keep track through the news as best I can..
VardaValar1: WoW and LotRO are busy. We have stories, Search Engine, and article projects going.
VardaValar1: Need more poetry, humor, and music.
VardaValar1: Listned to Glorfindel's music yet? : )
VardaValar1: Could use more good abc files for LotRO music playing.
OrodrethV: no, missed that.
Eonwe Valar: So are you going to Paris Island or the only in California?
VardaValar1: Still up on our Music site. : )
Eonwe Valar: only = one
OrodrethV: reread the luthien script last week. got amazed all over again. ._.
OrodrethV: san diego
Eonwe Valar: Sandiego. A shame. Paris Island was fairly nice when I lived there, and they were actually upgrading some of the stuff too.
Eonwe Valar: er, that should be a question mark after San Diego.
Eonwe Valar: Of course, it's been 10 years, so one hopes they're still upgrading/building, heh.
OrodrethV: which reminds me, I'm going to mirror the luthein script given that the author disappeared several years ago..
OrodrethV: be a huge shame if it got lost to some host taking the site down.
OrodrethV: I'll take dry and hot over wet and hot any day, thanks. :p
Eonwe Valar: Luthien script?
VardaValar1: Not the play we have up, I assume?
OrodrethV: http://oddlots.digitalspace.net/leithian/
Eonwe Valar: Beaufort has some nice historical buildings and other things that I wish I'd got to see more of while I was there.
OrodrethV: long scvript is LONG, by the way
Eonwe Valar: hehe
OrodrethV: act 4 is absurdly long.
VardaValar1: Was the script completed?
VardaValar1: This looks like a ton of material.
OrodrethV: No.
OrodrethV: There was a weeeee bit to finish. (when considered in the grand scheme of things)
OrodrethV: (and the script IS grand)
VardaValar1: If you mirror it, are you considering completing it?
OrodrethV: Luthien and Beren were (after..um, basically all of act 4) finally granted the ability to go back to Middle Earth as mortals, but they were at the time still in the halls of mandos and there was a bit of drama.
OrodrethV: ha!
OrodrethV: I wish I had that skill.
VardaValar1: Makes one wonder what happens to these people with their marvelous projects that are so near completion.
OrodrethV: I know. :-( and the last update was '04. :-(
VardaValar1: I know some of our people lost the ability to work with the site they were on. As in the site suddenly started wanting money or other.
OrodrethV: /me shrugs
OrodrethV: so yeah, this time I've been reating the (extensive, like 100 pages of notes for acts 1-3)
VardaValar1: Anyway, I was afraid a site of well-loved stories would disappear when the authors decided to stop, and got permission to reprint the core stories.
OrodrethV: notes this time, and while you may argue about some of the aspects of characterization, many of the specifics are all attested to. it's pretty amazing.
VardaValar1: So I sympathize.
OrodrethV: f ex: Beren became a vegetyarian.
OrodrethV: But yeah, I'll send a mail off the the address provided at the page, but I haven't gotten a responce about finishing it despite a few emails
OrodrethV: , so I suspect I won't get one for this. I'll take it down if requested and post disclaimers about it not being mine of course.
VardaValar1: Sounds like a good way to save a giant work.
VardaValar1: You have room to post it?
OrodrethV: yeah.
OrodrethV: I have some hosting from a friend, and I use nothing on it because I'm lazy and never got around to making the website I planned on. >.>
VardaValar1: Very good that you have the room. : )
 OrodrethV: if nothing else I can email a zip of it to myself on gmail and it'll survive SOMEWHERE until I buy hosting.. :p
VardaValar1: hehe - now that's planning.
VardaValar1: Be nice if one could just see it online without having to download a giant pdf file.
OrodrethV: the html files are at the bottom
OrodrethV: http://oddlots.digitalspace.net/leithian/leithian_script_1.html
OrodrethV: http://oddlots.digitalspace.net/leithian/leithian_script_2.html
OrodrethV: http://oddlots.digitalspace.net/leithian/leithian_script_3.html
OrodrethV: then 4, 4b-4f
VardaValar1: Thanks : )
Oessala: oh, and http://oddlots.digitalspace.net/leithian/leithian_script_enteract.html
Oessala: between 3 and 4
VardaValar1: Where it says Act I, Act II, etc, gotcha.
VardaValar1: hehe - I remember starting on reading this before, lost the bookmark thanks to a reformat. Much appreciated!
VardaValar1: O man, this is still funny.
OrodrethV: the "Well, I kill orcs" quote is hilarious every time I read it
OrodrethV: "Orcs.  Um.  I, uh, I hunt them.  Sir."
VardaValar1: *chortle*
VardaValar1: So Orodreth is cast with Hugh Grant, eh. Sure you didn't notice that.
Pallando Valar: Yes, but Pallansdo isthe responsible knight in shining armor in act 4.
Pallando Valar: (the other kight and kightess are mildly troublemakers)
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: I just got a flash of "Office Space" reading that, "Um, I hunt them, sir." part.
VardaValar1: hehehehe
Eonwe Valar: Particularly coming to mind is when they're trying to decide whether or not to lay off that one guy who's job is to "deal with the customers."
Eonwe Valar: They ask him "so what exactly do you do?" and he sits there in the end yelling at them..
Eonwe Valar: "Why can't you people understand! I deal with the customers so the engineers don't have to! I'm a people person! Why can't you people understand!"
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: No good for conversation - reading Beren making the Feanorians look like proper idiots.
Eonwe Valar: Maedhros wasn't such a bad guy :}
Eonwe Valar: Or are we speakign strictly of Celegorm and Caranthir?
Eonwe Valar: *speaking
VardaValar1: Just those two.
VardaValar1: I almost named a character Maedhros back in Diablo days. : )
VardaValar1: Finrod's wonderful even in this parody. : )
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: Good lines in here. Not just funny stuff, making it even better.
VardaValar1: Beren with Finrod says, "I think -- I think this must be what safety        feels like."
Oessala: Yeah, stuff gets really poignent in the fourth act.
Eonwe Valar: afk for a second.
Oessala: some serious like (whoa, serious!!!) stuff there too.
VardaValar1: Tolkien's world gets to this writer. I like it.
VardaValar1: Finrod is telling about the Grinding Ice.
VardaValar1: when the only light is that of        other souls . . .
OrodrethV: yeah, the Grinding Ice is referenced often.
OrodrethV: The author also has a handle on how mortal lifespans would be to elves
Eonwe Valar: back
OrodrethV: and paints a pretty convinceing picture that elves aren't immortal men with pointy ears
OrodrethV: but men are elves with rounded ears that die of old age.. :-)
Eonwe Valar: hehe
VardaValar1: For the Edain, that's pretty close to right mentally. : )
OrodrethV: but yeah, the notes are extensive, and cover everyting up to scene four act four (which is 4b-f.. :p). But I'm going to go play some war3.
Eonwe Valar: Have fun :}
VardaValar1: Enjoy!
VardaValar1: and thanks!
OrodrethV: I'll let you know if I can get on west later.
OrodrethV: for now I'm pallando-valar on west
OrodrethV: and I meant get on east.
OrodrethV: ;p
VardaValar1: You know we are on East
VardaValar1: Okies : )
VardaValar1: Can't get the European players in there either. Poor deserted homeland.
VardaValar1: They said it's the lag.
OrodrethV: pfft. I plat teamfortress2 on uk servers.
OrodrethV: they can play war3 on us east
Eonwe Valar: hehe
VardaValar1: Not arguing with you in the slightest. : )
VardaValar1: I think it's more that they can't find anyone here.
Glorfindel VG has entered the room.
Glorfindel VG: :O
VardaValar1: boo!
VardaValar1: Pallando makes the place look crowded with two doppelgangers. : )
VardaValar1: He's playing WC3
VardaValar1: Eonwe's doing homework.
VardaValar1: I was doing webwork but got distracted by Pallando showing this url:
Glorfindel VG: Eonwe has homework?
VardaValar1: http://oddlots.digitalspace.net/leithian/
VardaValar1: Eonwe is in his last year of college trying to stuff everything in.
VardaValar1: html versions are near the bottom of the page, with cartoons at the start of each act of the play. : )
Glorfindel VG: hehe thats pretty cool
VardaValar1: So, what are you up to? : )
Glorfindel VG: oh how old is eonwe anyway
Glorfindel VG: i was just trying to find a place to download final fantasy 7
VardaValar1: Google it?
VardaValar1: College age? : )
VardaValar1: Get me in trouble here. I think around 26?
Glorfindel VG: hmm i always thought he was in his fifties for some reason
VardaValar1: That would be me. *cough*
Glorfindel VG: and i just get a never ending cycle of bad links trying to find this
VardaValar1: He's as capable as someone in his 50's or better. : )
Glorfindel VG: yes i knew that varda
VardaValar1: I really should have Eonwe and myself exchange ages except I don't want to go through those years again. : )
Glorfindel VG: haha
Glorfindel VG: yeah their a pain
VardaValar1: I loved them at the time. Just I'm busy enjoying the fruits of those times now.
Glorfindel VG: they're*
VardaValar1: College years were wonderful for me, met Fangorn then. Been back to college a few times.
VardaValar1: Have to keep updated.
Glorfindel VG: I dropped out of college last year :-)
VardaValar1: You may go back when you figure out what you want to learn.
Glorfindel VG: yeah maybe
VardaValar1: Get a bead on your real interests.
Glorfindel VG: yeah easier said than done though :X
Glorfindel VG: i don't know what i want really
Glorfindel VG: heh
Glorfindel VG: ya know
VardaValar1: Maybe what you want will find you. : )
VardaValar1: Maybe you could go into music training?
Glorfindel VG: Hmm yeah I'd rather just let it find me
VardaValar1: Make those epic movie sound tracks everyone listens to for years after the movie is gone.
Glorfindel VG: I'm afraid I'm not good enough for that sort of thing
Glorfindel VG: oh well lol
VardaValar1: That's why you get training, to get good enough. heh
VardaValar1: People aren't born knowing all the techniques.
VardaValar1: Besides, college is a great place to meet your special someone. ;-)
Glorfindel VG: Yep you're probably right Varda
Glorfindel VG: but too much work makes me a dull boy
VardaValar1: You...work at college? : )
VardaValar1: Get thee a better subject! ;-)
Glorfindel VG: Well I'm like less than a year away from getting my degree in psychology
Glorfindel VG: but i got sick of it
Glorfindel VG: so i dropped all my classes
Glorfindel VG: and moved out of the state
Eonwe Valar: Sadly these days college is also the right place to meet the wrong kind of girl. But anyways..
VardaValar1: That is also true, Eonwe.
Glorfindel VG: tooo true eonwe
VardaValar1: Even moved out of state? My, quite some psychology in that. : ) Aye, maybe you needed a different line of study.
VardaValar1: But more likely to meet someone single.
VardaValar1: and interested in a similar subject.
Glorfindel VG: true indeed
VardaValar1: Glorfindel is needing help locating a good download place for a Final Fantasy.
Eonwe Valar: "A" Final Fantasy?
Glorfindel VG: VII
Eonwe Valar: movie or game?
Eonwe Valar: ot that I can help either way, actually, heh.
Eonwe Valar: ot = not
Glorfindel VG: do'h you got me hoping :-(
Eonwe Valar: Sorry
Eonwe Valar: Should've prefaced my curiosity with disappointment so you wouoldn't.
Glorfindel VG: no prob i'm sure something will turn up eventually
Glorfindel VG: and I see nobodies given any recent asnwers to my trivia
Glorfindel VG: maybe a clue is needed?
Eonwe Valar: I was never really a big Final Fantasy fan, so I don't see everyone's obssession with FFVII.
Eonwe Valar: I don't even remember what your trivia is, to be honest :}
Glorfindel VG: well eowne, i never played ff7 before
Glorfindel VG: i just played 1-6 and really enjoyed them all
Glorfindel VG: but i keep hearing 7 is so great
Glorfindel VG: so i wanted to give it a try
Glorfindel VG: but i really didn't like 8 or 9 at all
Glorfindel VG: so i dont know what to expect
Eonwe Valar: Sorry, wasn't trying to imply you were obsessed, just saying I keep seeing all these obsessed people.
Eonwe Valar: They're on FFXIII now and they still have to bring out games, movies, etc based around VII.
Glorfindel VG: yeah i know what you meant
Glorfindel VG: if you've never tried any of the nes or snes final fantasies I would suggest you try those
Glorfindel VG: i never liked the later ones anyway
VardaValar1: I tossed in a bit on Scouting Ahead, Eonwe.
VardaValar1: Forgot to mention it earlier, but then he mentioned the forum trivia. : )
Glorfindel VG: got it!
Glorfindel VG: now to wait patiently for 35 minutes of downloading.....
VardaValar1: FF?
Glorfindel VG: aye
VardaValar1: awww
Glorfindel VG: have you every tried any of those varda?
VardaValar1: I saw a bit over the shoulder. Sephiroth and other fun folk.
VardaValar1: I heard the plot told to me, and it sounded rather the same each time. And sad.
VardaValar1: But no, never played it.
Glorfindel VG: I think He is from ff7
Eonwe Valar: I'm not sure what to add to Scouting Ahead right now.
Glorfindel VG: never played it yet
Glorfindel VG: but you should try it sometime varda
VardaValar1: Probably so. : )
Glorfindel VG: play ff6 (ff3 for US version)
Glorfindel VG: it has alot of tolkien inspired things too
VardaValar1: hmm, I should look back and see how badly Fainan asked  her question.
Glorfindel VG: like mithril armor and such
Eonwe Valar: I only briefly read over your part, enough to get the gist, just don't know what to add yet.
Eonwe Valar: Was hoping for more direction on this story arc from Pharazon really, before Auros pointed himself in a direction and made me write it :}
Glorfindel VG: must be off, see ya guys
Glorfindel VG has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Take care Glorfindel
Eonwe Valar: Just a little too late.
Eonwe Valar: by direction, I mean more posts on it. I assume he wants to go with an investigation. Auros isn't from Mirkwood and so this falls to Mirkwood authorities :}
VardaValar1: Namarie belatedly, Glorfindel.
VardaValar1: I think we're going to be ambushed on the way out. : )
Eonwe Valar: If the investigation leads in the direction of Rivendell anyway, Auros might be willing to aid in it for a short time, but he's got the clock to think about too.
Eonwe Valar: Ah, the trials of being a Noldo :}
VardaValar1: Poor Auros. : )
