excelsiorjss: and I slept al day
excelsiorjss: today
excelsiorjss: to make up
VardaValar1: I hear that
excelsiorjss: that's how i
excelsiorjss: m celebrating my 3-day weekend
VardaValar1: Good way : )
Fladrifv: you should sleep at work
VardaValar1: We have a very low turn out today. I guess they are all
out gaming on the long weekend
excelsiorjss: haha
Fladrifv: and be as much as posible awake during weekends
VardaValar1: heh - only if you don't want to keep the job.
excelsiorjss: tried that already
excelsiorjss: not a good idea
Fladrifv: balancing is the key word
excelsiorjss: well, i didnt TRY to do it
excelsiorjss: but it happened anyway
excelsiorjss: i'm a programmer at work, so i could prolly get away with
some amout of sleep on the job
VardaValar1: Need to schedule in sleep somehow : )
excelsiorjss: i have to catch the 6:54 train out of my town
excelsiorjss: and it's a miled walk

excelsiorjss: woo
ArPharazonV: 7 badges of justice, a primal nether, and a good deal of

VardaValar1: Congrats : )
VardaValar1: That's a lot
ArPharazonV: also, I joined a raidgroup this week
excelsiorjss: bbiab, gotta get some eats
ArPharazonV: it's my old pre-BC community, and I'd been aiming for a
spot for months, so glad I finally got in
VardaValar1: Eating is good
VardaValar1: So everyone's seen Spidey 3 and Pirates 3? : )
ArPharazonV: made myself a heavy clefthoof set, and threw it full of
gems and enchants... am now quite a decent tank, even in heroics and
raids :-)
ArPharazonV: nope, neither
Fladrifv: after a long sleep some ent draught is the best
VardaValar1: I suspect that's where some of our people are
ArPharazonV: I have Pirates one on tape and 2 freshly downloaded,
though :-)
VardaValar1: The height of drinking.
VardaValar1: hehe - prime you for the movies : )
ArPharazonV: I'd already seen one! but as I wanted to see 2 as well,
and 1 happened to be on tv...
ArPharazonV: thought I'd watch em in a row
VardaValar1: Good planning :-)
ArPharazonV: well, 1 did not "happen" to be on tv of course..
ArPharazonV: all planned around the premiere of 3
VardaValar1: Right
Bior the Ythling has left the room.
GilraenV: Gwai and I are going to see Pirates 3 tonight... we saw
Spiderman the other week, on opening weekend. :-)
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Great!
VardaValar1: Aiya Eonwe : )
Eonwe Valar: Heya
Fladrifv: Aiya
VardaValar1: Don't drink anything before Pirates 3, it's 2 hours and 45
minutes of action you don't want to leave during. : )
Eonwe Valar: 'Noted for when I go see it Tuesday :}
VardaValar1: No spoilers coming from me, don't worry.
VardaValar1: Three of us saw it Friday, not able to get in at the
showing we planned, sold out.
VardaValar1: So we immediately bought tickets for the next showing and
squeezed in.
VardaValar1: We're going again tomorrow with Elwing and those who
didn't see it.
VardaValar1: Guess this is our group today.

VardaValar1: We have a new Full Member:
VardaValar1: Fangluin-(V)
VardaValar1: The name is from a Dwarf involved in the Nauglamir mess
with King Thingol.
ArPharazonV: ahh, so that's the one who applied to the forum rp
VardaValar1: And we need to talk about that rp after the meeting. Looks
as if three of us are here at least.
ArPharazonV: indeedy!
VardaValar1: *urge to talk now. Squashes*
VardaValar1: Any further Membership news?
VardaValar1: We have a new TV member, just waiting on me to make it
through the backlog and get him published. : )
VardaValar1: Arveleg I-(TV)
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: He's considering Full Member or at least gaming with us in
Battle for Middle-earth 2
VardaValar1: Any of you still play it?
VardaValar1: *hushes crickets*
ArPharazonV: I could, when asked
VardaValar1: He's in the US, but it might work out.
ArPharazonV: it's a nice game, but I tend to discard most games after I
have finished the campaigns, until someone's interested in multiplay
VardaValar1: He is. : )
ArPharazonV: hmhm
VardaValar1: hehe - poor Phar. So many games.
ArPharazonV: *nod*
VardaValar1: Fangorn says hi!
ArPharazonV: and Starcraft 2 coming out too...
ArPharazonV: Hiya Treebeard!

News:
VardaValar1: I'm trying to clear the backlog and got a start on it.
VardaValar1: with 10 drabbles by Jay of Lasgalen.
VardaValar1: Some are very serious, and some are quite light. : )
VardaValar1: Probably the hardest part is putting them all in the right
spot in the time line of the books.
VardaValar1: "Hide and Seek"
The twins, Elladan and Elrohir, see the point of the game.

new sign.
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/fiction/authorsT/JayofLasgalen/stories/drabbles/NoSmoking.htm
ArPharazonV: for someone who doesn't know Tolkien, that would be a very
confusing sentence
VardaValar1: aye, I need to fix that :-)
ArPharazonV: Aragorn meets his twin brothers...
VardaValar1: "Meeting in Bree" Ranger Aragorn meets Elladan and Elrohir
in Bree.
VardaValar1: Sounds like a cheap TV show : )
VardaValar1: "Starlight and Darkness"
In Moria, Aragorn recalls Elrohir's words that help him face the evil

VardaValar1: As fast as I'm putting everything up, your checks on links
and poorly worded descriptions *cough* are a big help.
VardaValar1: More is coming.
VardaValar1: But not at this meeting : )
VardaValar1: If you want to see different subject matter than we are
getting, feel free to send it in and help the trend.
VardaValar1: Any further web news?
VardaValar1: Eonwe, are these gaming reports on the transcripts any
help to your GPMU?
VardaValar1: (Games page mass update)
VardaValar1: I hope they are, anyway.

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: What have you folks been playing that was neither WoW nor
LotRO? : )
Fladrifv: Chess!
VardaValar1: Online or on a real board?
Fladrifv: online
Fladrifv: noone dares to challange me anymore irl :-)
ArPharazonV: more Empire Earth: Final
Conquest, though I've been a bit busy in WoW getting my gear in
shape for the raidgroup, so not much of it
VardaValar1: Battle chess, with destroyed pieces?
Fladrifv: hehe no no just the plain edition ;-)
VardaValar1: I'll match you versus Merry-(V) : )
Fladrifv: oho....
VardaValar1: Luckily for you, he's out of practice.
Fladrifv: accepted then
Fladrifv: *grin*
VardaValar1: He was doing more than one game at a time : )
VardaValar1: Now we have to let him know about it!
Fladrifv: nice
VardaValar1: I get my poor brother in more trouble. ;-)
Fladrifv: I know a blind person he beats 9 people simultaniously
VardaValar1: Good heavens.
VardaValar1: He must have really great concentration.
Fladrifv: they state the move at the beginning of the move...
Fladrifv: its insane...
Fladrifv: oh and playing mario
again :-)
VardaValar1: Which one? : )
Fladrifv: started with 1 for the nes
Fladrifv: and now im at world 2 for the snes
Fladrifv: :-)
VardaValar1: nice : )
VardaValar1: Fangorn, Eowyn, and Sauron have been playing Galaxians : )
VardaValar1: I'm going to sneak in and play it too later, hopefully.
VardaValar1: Eowyn is ahead on points : )
VardaValar1: Any other games?
Fladrifv: you play on the real or a flash one?
VardaValar1: Fladrif, you had a report for SC
Fladrifv: aye
Fladrifv:
http://starcraft2.com/movies.xml
Fladrifv: all check this link
VardaValar1: It's a refurbished machine. Old style. Got it for
Fangorn's birthday on May 25.
VardaValar1: Warn on the MB : )
Fladrifv: there is now a gameplay movie included
Fladrifv: only 450 mb for the real one :-)
Fladrifv: oh there is a small one also for only 300 mb
VardaValar1: You'll make a great salesman or politician, tacking "only"
on big numbers like that. ; )
VardaValar1: When you start saying GB or Teraflops, then we'll worry.
Fladrifv: oh wait you can buy it from me for only 300 bucks then ;-)
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Flad, I suspect you and I are the only live ones here.
VardaValar1: Anyone else here?
ArPharazonV: my dad saw an add for a terabyte of memory in some
magazine... kinda cheap too
ArPharazonV: no, I'm here
VardaValar1: nice, Phar : )
Eonwe Valar: I'm somewhat here. Attention divided.
Fladrifv: sure it was memory and not disk space phar?
ArPharazonV: yeah, that one
ArPharazonV: in some way, that could be called memory too!
ArPharazonV: disk space, that is
ArPharazonV: it's disk space!
Fladrifv: only 1 TB? pff ;-)
ArPharazonV: hehe
VardaValar1: So, did y'all stuff Arien in the Caves of Night?
ArPharazonV: if I've learned anything, I shouldn't fight Ainur, so no
;-)
VardaValar1: You did learn : )
VardaValar1: Who will be doing the WoW Argent Dawn server report? : )
ArPharazonV: *points at Menelvagor* *sees empty space* hmm...
Fladrifv: there is only one who can
ArPharazonV: I invited Menel, hope he gets in!
VardaValar1: So what have you two been playing? WC3 maybe?
ArPharazonV: anyway! This thursday we took some high level characters,
and sent them on a mission into UBRS
VardaValar1: Boromir would like to game with you in WC3.
Fladrifv: my wc3 is still at other home :-(
Fladrifv: maybe I should buy a new one
VardaValar1: Valar Guild uses East (Azeroth to you) and Valar for the
channel
VardaValar1: Might find one not too expensively?
ArPharazonV: my main Calaron (druid) was there, Menelvagor's Anarore
(shaman) was there, and Ariehn's paladin (Finduilasse, I think) took
some steps into Upper Blackrock Spire
ArPharazonV: we managed to find about 4-5 friends, and headed into that
10-man instance
VardaValar1: Good job finding the friends for that!
ArPharazonV: some of us were lvl 70 already, so the shortage of people
wasn't a problem, and we even got through without full groupwipes, even
though we had some bad pulls and groups of adds
ArPharazonV: and in recordtime the great Dragonkin Drakkisath, final
boss, fell at last
VardaValar1: Woot!
ArPharazonV: leaving Anarore with only a visit in Winterspring for
attunement to Onyxia
ArPharazonV: so afterwards we travelled to Winterspring, entering a
cave with elite blue dragons, and fought our way through
ArPharazonV: after some fights I decided to speed things up so ran
through the tunnel with a group of dragonkin on my tail, leaving the
path free for Anarore to get to the end, but we both died some way
after the middle
VardaValar1: Yelling Leeeroy! all the way?
ArPharazonV: a reincarnation and a resurrection left us alive and well
again, ready to continue our adventure, and after slaying the 2 named
dragons at the end of the cave, we stepped on the teleportation rune
and visited the NPC he needed
ArPharazonV: no, afraid not... though it would have been a nice touch!
ArPharazonV: later that night I joined the raidgroup I told you about
earlier, which means my thursdays are probably filled again... but we
can see if we can change the guildnight to another day
ArPharazonV: and thus ends my report, unless Fladrif did anything with
the guild?
ArPharazonV: oh, right, he quit...
ArPharazonV: anyway! that ends my report then
VardaValar1: Thanks, Phar : )
Fladrifv: I want to add that is was nice and quiet in the forrest
VardaValar1: Sorry I stepped on your starting words of the report.
VardaValar1: Now we drag you all into LotRO Landroval...
Eonwe Valar: *passes giant net to Varda*
ArPharazonV: that's allright, I'll just step on yours!
Eonwe Valar: happy hunting :}
ArPharazonV: but go ahead :-)
VardaValar1: ok : )
VardaValar1: *swings giant net gleefully, missing everyone*
VardaValar1: Nice fan!
VardaValar1: Eonwe, do you have a WoW
Lothar report?
Eonwe Valar: Aye, I do.
VardaValar1: Your floo!
VardaValar1: floor even.
VardaValar1: *floo powder*?
Eonwe Valar: On Friday, Elwing and I went into Stranglethorn Vale, me
on my Priest and her on her Hunter, and completed several of her
quests, included Kurzen's Mystery, Colonel Kurzen, Green Hills of
Stranglethorn, and Akiris by the BUndle.
Eonwe Valar: Unfortunately she had to call it early in order to be
ready for a convention she was going to the next day.
VardaValar1: Her brother's models were going into a contest.
DeepGroover's stuff is in our art site. : )
VardaValar1: He wins a lot of awards.
Eonwe Valar: This morning, Beline and I successfully two-manned the
Scarlet Crusade area of Stratholme, completing three quests and making
the Scarlet Crusade look quite bad at the same time.
VardaValar1: No guild-friends joined in?
VardaValar1: Woot!
Eonwe Valar: I didn't get any response from anyone in the Valar channel.
VardaValar1: Maybe we should remind them to use a different color : )
Eonwe Valar: Don't think the channel was particularly packed on Friday
night anyway.
VardaValar1: The Laytonrim have been keeping a presence on WoW today if
that helps
Eonwe Valar: Aye, Sauron was on earlier as I was doing CHildren's Week
in Stormwind with my Paladin.
Eonwe Valar: He was on with Bilbo.
VardaValar1: We are redownloading WoW on one comp after the patch. It
went bad. Other two are ok.
Eonwe Valar: Anyway, the disgrace of the Scarlet Crusade concludes my
report.
VardaValar1: Congratulations!
Eonwe Valar: Thanks
VardaValar1: Not having been home this last week, I have no WoW Uldaman report. I suspect Elwing
was on though.
VardaValar1: I also missed LotRO
Monday, but can tell you that Irmo's six heavy hitters have gone
into Angmar and are laying low the evil ones.
VardaValar1: The lower group of us, who also tend to be crafters, have
been running together pretty often. : )
VardaValar1: That ends my LotRO report
top
VardaValar1: Tolkien!
VardaValar1: What period of time
would you folks most like to see new stories
for?
ArPharazonV: If we mention them, do we get expected to write them too?
:-)
VardaValar1: Very early in time with the Valar? First Age Elves? Second
Age? War of the Rings with our main characters.
VardaValar1: That would be nice.
ArPharazonV: Second Age I'd like to see stories for, either Numenor or
Middle-earth would be nice
VardaValar1: But I thought I'd dig around the net and try to find a few
that were good.
Fladrifv: I would like to see melkors adventures
Fladrifv: side storys about ents would be nice too
VardaValar1: The Misadventures of Morgoth!
VardaValar1: Ents, they are under-represented badly. Fangorn would
agree.
ArPharazonV: in the History of Middle Earth series, book 12, it ends
with a story taking place in the Second Age called Tal-Elmar if I
recall correctly... how the coming of the Numenoreans was perceived by
the peoples already living in ME
VardaValar1: I'd like to see a Gimli story. : )
ArPharazonV: I'd like to see more such stories :-)
ArPharazonV: the "dark ages"
VardaValar1: That's enough to keep me busy.
VardaValar1: You folks can nominate some stories if you find them and I
can try to get permission.
VardaValar1: The majority of writers seem to be influenced by the
movies.
VardaValar1: Whole sites are devoted to a few characters: Faramir and
Eowyn, the Hobbits, etc.
VardaValar1: But I have found Sil stuff too, so we have hope. : )
VardaValar1: Thank you.
VardaValar1: That could give a clue on what type of topics we'd like to
see in the Tolkien chat too.
VardaValar1: Melkor's adventures, and other baddies?
VardaValar1: I have a rough draft from one member on another bad guy
adventure. I'll have to see how his progress is.
VardaValar1: The mix of the highly educated Numenoreans blessed by the
Valar and Eldar with the regular people... Must have been unpleasant
for the regulars.
VardaValar1: Like to discuss the rp now?
VardaValar1: Hello? Am I still online?
Fladrifv: yes you are :-)
VardaValar1: Thanks!
Fladrifv: yw
ArPharazonV: ah, yes
ArPharazonV: the rp
Eonwe Valar: Sure, let's talk about hte RP now, if Phar is still here.
ArPharazonV: ok, let me explain about the note first :-)
ArPharazonV: I knew that in an earlier post, Fainan had said to Auros
that everyone was preparing and should be gathering "as we speak" if I
recall correctly
ArPharazonV: and because my post took place since before the other
posts of the chapter to the end, me not being there would make your
statement a little... strange
ArPharazonV: therefore I put the post on your door *before* the other
posts took place, in order to justify your statement, and not cause any
conflicts between the contents of our posts
ArPharazonV: do you understand me so far? :-)
VardaValar1: No : )
Eonwe Valar: I've got that. The problem I see comes later.
ArPharazonV: allright, let's get that straight then..
ArPharazonV: chronology-wise, my post comes before the starting post of
the new chapter
ArPharazonV: its beginning, at least
VardaValar1: ok
ArPharazonV: it's supposed to start before you all wake up and prepare
to go, even though I think Auros was busy working?
VardaValar1: Flashback. I flashbacked too.
Eonwe Valar: Auros spent the night in the smithy, yes.
VardaValar1: Aye - Auros did not sleep.
ArPharazonV: aye
VardaValar1: You left the note on my door before morning.
VardaValar1: I got the note in the morning.
ArPharazonV: anyway! So, before Fainan and Auros meet, I left Erebor
ArPharazonV: and because you had said in your post... let me get the
exact quoe
ArPharazonV: *quote
ArPharazonV: "Hail, Lord Auros! The others are gathering even now, and
should be with us soon.
ArPharazonV: but of course, because I wasn't there at the time, that
would have been a lie from your side, and I did not want to put that on
you, because it would conflict our two posts
ArPharazonV: that's why I created the idea of the note
VardaValar1: Are you thinking you are the only "other"?
ArPharazonV: no, but at least one of them
ArPharazonV: so if I hadn't been there, you would probably have told
that to Auros at that occasion, at least I doubt Fainan would have
neglected to mention that I was nowhere to be found
VardaValar1: Your note said not to worry him, that you might be a tad
late.
ArPharazonV: that's why I created the note, to warn you as soon as you
woke up, that I wasn't there, and that Auros needn't worry
VardaValar1: Is that right?
ArPharazonV: yes
VardaValar1: So I gave the note to him later, when you were a tad late.
ArPharazonV: ahh, I see
VardaValar1: Then waited outside.
VardaValar1: I waited outside off to the side, letting the horses graze.
VardaValar1: Thus Auros could be "alone" when you came up.
ArPharazonV: so chronology wise, your last post came before the ending
of mine, yes?
VardaValar1: I flashbacked, yes.
ArPharazonV: ahh, nice
VardaValar1: It came across yours.
Eonwe Valar: Heh, what a tangled web we weave...
VardaValar1: Auros can call to me and anyone else over to the side
where we are grazing the horses.
VardaValar1: but he appears to be alone.
ArPharazonV: so you knew what the idea was about the note, and only
chose to pass it along to Auros after I was late... I guess I didn't
see that so clearly :-)
VardaValar1: You were later than expected due to the theft and search.
ArPharazonV: *nod*
ArPharazonV: still, the note was addressed to you, was giving him the
note the right course of action?
ArPharazonV: or should you have mentioned the note, in which I told I
was late, and then showed him the note for clarificatin?
VardaValar1: The note seemed self-explanatory, without my two cents
being added.
ArPharazonV: this way it seemed to me like you understood the note was
addressed to him :-)
ArPharazonV: so I guess I underestimated you ;-)
VardaValar1: I read it, then passed it to him when it seemed the time
was right.
VardaValar1: Or I need to write more clearly.
ArPharazonV: indeed, that clarifies a lot
ArPharazonV: so, one more thing
ArPharazonV: "The half hour Auros had set for their departure had come
and gone, and the others had not yet shown."
ArPharazonV: was this before or after your post?
Eonwe Valar: "The others" there meant everyone but Fainan.
ArPharazonV: I see
ArPharazonV: so did I arrive after Fainan and before the rest, or did
the rest show up before me too?
VardaValar1: You were last to arrive.
Eonwe Valar: No one else has posted, so no one else has shown up.
VardaValar1: The others and myself are to the side.
Eonwe Valar: ok,..
ArPharazonV: ok
Eonwe Valar: or that.
ArPharazonV: that's what I wanted cleared up :-)
ArPharazonV: we can also leave it open, and to the other players
VardaValar1: You were delayed due to the theft and search. The rest are
nearby.
ArPharazonV: whether they arrived before or after me for some reason
VardaValar1: Right. I tried to leave it wide open.
Eonwe Valar: My last post works straightforwardly with previous posts.
Fainan had already been in the stable, so she was accounted for.
VardaValar1: The young dwarf may be there, and the other riders from
Mirkwood?
Eonwe Valar: Whenever "the others" arrive chronologically, it's after
the thirty minutes Auros had set.
ArPharazonV: aye, I'm thinking Estarion (I believe his name was? been
too long) and Frali should decide for themselves what happened...
whether they were there, or not
ArPharazonV: when I arrived, that is
VardaValar1: They should be. They were not traveling but right there at
Erebor with us.
ArPharazonV: I wanted to place my post directly after yours, Auros, but
there's an opening of time possible indeed for the others
Eonwe Valar: Ok, some of my concerns:
ArPharazonV: you know, me arriving just when you're gritting your teeth
:-)
VardaValar1: Didn't we also have an escort? I'm losing track.
ArPharazonV: I'm not sure, Varda!
VardaValar1: Don't grind those pearly whites too hard. : )
Eonwe Valar: The NPC escort was left back when we departed Mirkwood.
ArPharazonV: didn't we send them back as we left Mirkwood?
ArPharazonV: aye, that
VardaValar1: okies
Eonwe Valar: Ok, concerns: perhpas minor one here: How is THranduil
going to react finding Estarion back in his woods?
ArPharazonV: *reads back* weren't we supposed to bring him back?
Eonwe Valar: It seems he had Estarion summarily walked to the border,
not to return. At least that's the impression I recall.
ArPharazonV: chapter 3?
Eonwe Valar: Think so. End of the first Mirkwood chapter.
ArPharazonV: "The trespasser, Estarion, will be removed from our lands
by this same guard. He has promised to go peaceably and claims he will
not need to be bound in any fashion."
ArPharazonV: allright
ArPharazonV: I didn't remember Thranduil being so hostile to him... but
I guess it's there
Eonwe Valar: I wouldn't call it hostile really.
ArPharazonV: he wasn't very appreciative of Estarion's membership of
our party and wanted him removed from his lands as soon as possible,
and wouldn't have hesitated to bind him until he was
ArPharazonV: doesn't sound very hospitable to me
Eonwe Valar: Well, when you put it that way, it does sound bad :}
VardaValar1: Ok, he saw him as a trespasser then?
ArPharazonV: that's the way I read the sentence :-)
VardaValar1: But now he is part of a party going to Rivendell, not
remaining in Mirkwood?
ArPharazonV: true
ArPharazonV: we can see him as a valuable member of our team and deem
his information relevant to Auros' mission, relevant enough to take him
with us to Rivendell
Eonwe Valar: I sense chances for tenseness between Thranduil and Auros,
heh :}
VardaValar1: Fun : )
Eonwe Valar: Rereading Thrnaduil's judgement on Estarion for a better
perspective.
VardaValar1: I'm still looking for the spot
Eonwe Valar: It's in Part 3: The Halls, last page.
VardaValar1: Estarion asks for aid for his people, but he's asking it
of Auros!
ArPharazonV: it's your post, Varda :-)
ArPharazonV: last page of chapter 3
Eonwe Valar: "The trespasser, Estarion, will be removed from our lands
by this same guard. He has promised to go peaceably and claims he will
not need to be bound in any fashion.
Eonwe Valar: That does sound fairly final.
Eonwe Valar: Tension between Auros and Thranduil indeed :}
Glorfindel VG has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Too bad for Thranduil Auros can't spare the time to head
through Mirkwood by the Great East-West Road :}
ArPharazonV: hehe
VardaValar1: Aiya Glorfindel : )
Eonwe Valar: Heya Glorfindel :}
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: He's going peaceably with Auros. Just it takes him back
through Mirkwood.
Eonwe Valar: Ok, so Estarions return could create some tension with
Thranduil. Ok, now on to the next issue I saw... once I remember it
again.
Glorfindel VG: hello : )
VardaValar1: So we'd better not dawdle!
Eonwe Valar: Hehe, Auros is in no danger of letting the group dawdle :}
VardaValar1: I believe that : )
VardaValar1: My brother is going to want to talk with me about the
additional darkness coming from the Angmar side, an area that should be
quiet.
Eonwe Valar: Aw, second one: Sort of hard to deal with this one without
Ancalagon here, since it's basically: Is he going to join us? and if so
how?
VardaValar1: Dol Guldur had three Nazgul stirring up the place, after
Sauron proclaimed himself in Mordor.
Eonwe Valar: Aw = Ah
Eonwe Valar: We already discussed problems with him being a thief.
VardaValar1: Someone could play my brother and he might join us. : )
VardaValar1: Needs to be a straight arrow, though. Pardon the
expression.
Eonwe Valar: If we were going anywhere but Rivendell it might not be
such an issue, but the last thing a Noldo is going to do is bring a
thief near the Ring.
VardaValar1: Maybe Fangluin could do that?
VardaValar1: Aye, we agreed that would not work in the manner he was
telling.
Eonwe Valar: If Fangluin is interested and you want him to play your
brother, sure.
VardaValar1: I'd like my brother to play my brother, but it doesn't
seem to be happening.
VardaValar1: Or it could be someone else entirely.
Eonwe Valar: Understandable that you'd want that, Varda :}
Eonwe Valar: Aye, the next question is where would Fangluin come in.
VardaValar1: He's an excellent writer, very imaginative.
Eonwe Valar: Fangluin should come to our meetings so he can join in on
these chats if he's going to join in.
ArPharazonV: I'm not sure what's happening with Anc now, on the
previous question...
VardaValar1: Fangluin could be one of the Dwarves from Haran's lot?
Eonwe Valar: We do some of our best thinking here :}
Eonwe Valar: Are there even any Dwarves of Haran's lot?
ArPharazonV: I left the theft in the story for him to have a choice,
but I could easily write it off if it's not happening
VardaValar1: Aye, Anc has not been around much on LotRO either, except
on his alts, and he got very high on his main.
Eonwe Valar: Seems every time Haran runs into Dwarves he gets into
trouble.
VardaValar1: Could be a survivor or one involved in whatever's going on.
Eonwe Valar: Not sure troublemaking Dwarves would be useful.
ArPharazonV: I believe the original thought was for him to find us
*with* the daggers, and we already knowing they were stolen, right?
VardaValar1: Not a troublemaker, but one who is trying to straighten
out things.
ArPharazonV: that's why I added that bit in... if he's not joining it
shouldn't be much of a problem, just thought I'd leave it open
VardaValar1: Maybe he's someone sent to track down the theft and
becomes more interested in our mission once the theft is solved?
VardaValar1: It was a good idea, Phar.
VardaValar1: Adds some excitement too. : )
ArPharazonV: that's an interesting idea!
VardaValar1: A detective type.
VardaValar1: That could leave the race open somewhat.
ArPharazonV: he would just have to have a connection with Dale
ArPharazonV: so Elf might be a little... off
Eonwe Valar: Thiefcatcher.
Eonwe Valar: or militia man.
VardaValar1: A good tracking abiltiy is good for a detective.
VardaValar1: Elves were associated with Dale. Raft Elves lived nearby.
Eonwe Valar: If he's respectable he can come to Rivendell.
VardaValar1: A raft elf would be an interesting, unusual character.
ArPharazonV: in any case, he should not a be hobbit then, probably :-)
Eonwe Valar: We're not going that close to the River I don't think, to
pickup a raft elf.
VardaValar1: A Hobbit - more tricky. Probably a Brandybuck or Took?
VardaValar1: Some of them are known to wander off, might have gotten
lost and liked Dale?
VardaValar1: We're heading back in the direction of the other Hobbits.
VardaValar1: The raft elf could be the detective.
ArPharazonV: wasn't there some lost cousin of Frodo that was lost? or
was that just an earlier version? :-)
Eonwe Valar: The Underhills treated Frodo like a long-lost cousin when
he introduced himself as Frodo Underhill. Closest I recall.
VardaValar1: The Old Forest can really get a person turned around.
VardaValar1: Frodo was related. Primula Brandybuck Baggins.
ArPharazonV: must just have been part of the History of Middle-Earth
then, soon abandoned
VardaValar1: We don't require an actual relative of Frodo's, any of the
ones living near the Old Forest could work.
VardaValar1: Or get really wild. One of the Stoors.
Eonwe Valar: It'd probably be better not to be an actual relative.
ArPharazonV: why not? big families, lot to choose from and you wouldn't
need to be able to retrace it ;-)
VardaValar1: Related very distantly in the sense that he's a
Brandybuck. : )
Eonwe Valar: Aye, what Varda said.
VardaValar1: So we could have a Brandybuck and/or a raft elf joining
up, or a Dwarf.
ArPharazonV: or a man
ArPharazonV: it's Dale, after all
VardaValar1: Maybe a Dwarf from Erebor watching over Frali.
VardaValar1: Aye, we don't have a Man in the party yet. : )
Eonwe Valar: As long as it's nto a dog who can speak the common tongue,
or is limited to speech a certain number of times, heh.
VardaValar1: lol - leaves out Huan then.
Eonwe Valar: I'd like to stick to the Free Peopls :}
VardaValar1: That would be easier to work with.
Eonwe Valar: Druadan would be interesting if they weren't so interested
in staying completely isolated from the world.
VardaValar1: Aye.
VardaValar1: How about a Beorning? : )
VardaValar1: They live on the other side of Mirkwood.
VardaValar1: Phone, pardon
Eonwe Valar: Unlike Hobbits, they really do stay close to home.
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, Beornings are another group that seem to keep fairly
much to themselves.
Eonwe Valar: Beorn being our best example.
Eonwe Valar: Hobbits have the "oddball" types that like adventure and
go socializing with other races. Doesn't seem we get that with
Beornings. Druedain seem to be done with dealing with others since
Numenor sunk.
Eonwe Valar: My observations anyway.
ArPharazonV: so what else do we have?
Eonwe Valar: Then again, Estarion is an Avar presumably from east of
Mordor.
Xseanzee disco has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: if he's suspcicous about Helvy, Auros probably won't put
up with a defected goblin in the group ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Heya,.. Gil-Galad, right?
ArPharazonV: *suspicious
Xseanzee disco: hey :-) yep
ArPharazonV: wow, that was an odd typo
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
Eonwe Valar: Ok good, I didn't forget :}
Eonwe Valar: Keen observation on Auros there, Phar :}
VardaValar1: Back
VardaValar1: Hiya Gil-galad : )
VardaValar1: No orcs, aye : )
VardaValar1: Gil, we're figuring out stuff for the
Eonwe Valar: ROughyl, we have:
VardaValar1: Forum rp
Eonwe Valar: *Roughly
Eonwe Valar: (available races, that is)
Eonwe Valar: Most any elf group around in the Third Age.
VardaValar1: (including Raft Elves)
Eonwe Valar: Men living in areas ruled or once ruled by Numenoreans.
VardaValar1: Dale, Laketown especially
Eonwe Valar: Maybe 3 Dwarves houses
ArPharazonV: 3?
Eonwe Valar: The house of Durin, prominently.
VardaValar1: Durin's folk are the most welcome.
Eonwe Valar: Dwarves left from Belegost and the otehr Dwarf kingdom
that once lived on the East border of Beleriand, what is now the
coastline Ered Luin.
VardaValar1: But they may have the same grudge as Gimli about the
fairly recent detainment of a large group of their people in
Thranduil's halls.
Eonwe Valar: Nogrod, that's the other one.
Eonwe Valar: Sadly, I actually had to look it up, shame on me.
ArPharazonV: the Indrafangs and the... what?
Glorfindel VG has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: The Dwarf Kingdoms of Belegost and Nogrod were in the Blue
Mountains. Those used to be the Eastern border of Beleriend. Now
they're on the West coast of Middle-Earth.
Eonwe Valar: Indrafangs?
Eonwe Valar: Sounds like a familair name. Petty-Dwarves?
ArPharazonV: oh, Indrafangs are Durin's people by the looks of it..
Eonwe Valar: Ah, Longbeards.
Eonwe Valar: The seven Dwarve Houses are actually listed in Book 12 of
HoME.
Eonwe Valar: *Dwarf
ArPharazonV: have the book right here, let me check
Eonwe Valar: I foolishly put my HoME books behind other books.
VardaValar1: Grey Mts for the original home of Durin?
VardaValar1: I'll bet you had a space problem : )
ArPharazonV: nah, it seems the original Durin made his home at Moria
Eonwe Valar: Mt. Gundabad was where Durin awoke. It's a hallowed place
among the Dwarves, where they would have meetings of all seven houses.
It's takeover by Orcs is a very sore spot with Dwarves.
Fladrifv: the ent is heading back to his hill, continue the moot in
peace *wave*
Eonwe Valar: That from HoME 12 at least.
ArPharazonV: this too:
Eonwe Valar: Take care Fladrif.
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well.
VardaValar1: Namarie, Fladrif!
Fladrifv: Namarie
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
ArPharazonV: "In the deeps of time and the beginning of that people he
came to Azanulbizar, the Dimrill Dale, and in the caves above
Kheled-Zaram (pardon the simplified spelling), the Mirrormere , in the
east of the Misty Mountains,
ArPharazonV: he made his dwelling, where after were the Mines of Moria
renowned in song."
Eonwe Valar: There's so much info to be had on Dwarves, if one knows
where to look. Enough of it doesn't contradict LotR and Sil to be
useful.
Eonwe Valar: Aye, "he came to" showing that he did not awake there.
Fladrifv has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Aye, but it does show that his line does originate from
there
ArPharazonV: hmm.... Broadbeams, Firebeards, Longbeards, Ironfists,
Stiffbeards, Blacklocks and Stonefoots
Eonwe Valar: The Sil says Aul "made first the Seven Fathers of the
Dwarves in a hall under the mountains in Middle-Earth." Leaves enough
info out to speculate that this was also Mount Gundabad.
ArPharazonV: hmm.... we're headed in that direction anyway, right? some
curious adventurous dwarf who wants to find the roots of his people? ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Well, Auros was going to pass near Mount GUndabad
originally, but then he had to go back through Mirkwood :}
Eonwe Valar: Mount Gundabad is further north than our group is heading.
VardaValar1: Perhaps some important artifact(s) related to Durin's folk
were stolen away and the trail leads to Angmar.
Eonwe Valar: And it's still infested by orcs.
VardaValar1: This is all well and good, but we need the people who want
to play those characters. : (
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, small comment.
VardaValar1: Trivia is us. Go for it.
Eonwe Valar: The Sil says Aul put the fathers in "far sundered places"
to sleep. However, the two Dwarf kingdoms in the Blue Mountains are
quite close together by geographical standards.
VardaValar1: Maybe not if you're walking and under 5' tall?
Eonwe Valar: Just something I was noticing on the map in the back of my
Sil while looking for Mount Gundabad before remembering it would be
much further east than the map shows.
Eonwe Valar: Well, based on the map, the distance probably isn't much
more than the distance from Minas Tirith to Dol Amroth, or maybe from
Minas Tirith to the Black Gate. A good march, but not what one would
consider "far sundered."
Eonwe Valar: Certainly close enough to come to eachothers' aid if
needed.
ArPharazonV: book 12 of HoME says that there were 4 places where the 7
ancestors awoke
VardaValar1: Guess not in the same mountain anymore, and they didn't
know which mountains the others were in?
ArPharazonV: 1 would be Gundabad, where Durin awoke, and another
further west, where the 2 ancestors of the Houses there awoke
ArPharazonV: and only these 2 places were known to the Elves, the other
2 places were far further east, "sundered" from the rest, perhaps
ArPharazonV: "The other two places were eastward, at distances as great
or greater than that between the Blue Mountains and Gundabad"
Eonwe Valar: I remember that part now, thanks.
ArPharazonV: so if the Broadbeams and Firebeards awoke at the
Westernmost place, which would be in the Blue Mountains, those must be
the Dwarves of Belegost and Nogrod
Eonwe Valar: Aye
ArPharazonV: while the Longbeards (Durin) awoke at Gundabad
ArPharazonV: and the other four far eastward :-)
Eonwe Valar: So aye, we have 3 possible distinct Dwarf types.
ArPharazonV: it's in the chapter "Of Dwarves and Men", under a
subsection "Relations of the Longbeard Dwarves and Men"
VardaValar1: Thanks
Eonwe Valar: Anything else we can discuss about the RP?
Eonwe Valar: How pointy are SIlvan ears perhaps? :}
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Leaf like : )
Eonwe Valar: I guess we've hit on the concerns I had.
VardaValar1: That is indeed a grave concern.
Eonwe Valar: hehe
VardaValar1: I wonder how much of a physical difference there was
VardaValar1: Noldor were taller, more educated
Eonwe Valar: Noldor are taller at least.
VardaValar1: Sindar were between Noldor and Silvan
VardaValar1: Silvan is probably fairly short as Elves go
Eonwe Valar: Noldor are better armed for standard warfare.
VardaValar1: Noldor were into crafting, aye
VardaValar1: Avari, I wonder if there were many at all left.
VardaValar1: They didn't seem to make a dent in history
Eonwe Valar: Noldor had sea-grey eyes as I recall, don't remember about
Silvans.
VardaValar1: They may have been mostly wiped out in the time of Men,
since Men were under Morgoth
Eonwe Valar: It's possible.
VardaValar1: Aye, Noldor were dark-haired to black-haired, grey eyes.
VardaValar1: All the Sindar and Silvans mentioned had blonde or silver
hair. I found that annoying as it did not say if those particular Elves
were unusual or not, except the silver.
VardaValar1: Thingol's hair was not silver until he met Melian. But it
doesn't say what it was before.
VardaValar1: Amroth's was blonde. So was Thranduil's. So was an unnamed
elf in Lothlorien.
VardaValar1: Celeborn's was silver
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, I guess I didn't pay much attention to hair color
going through. Didn't recall most having blonde or silver.
VardaValar1: They didn't say most.
VardaValar1: In fact, it may have been pointing out something unusual
Eonwe Valar: correction to my plast comment: most mentioned.
Eonwe Valar: *plast = last
VardaValar1: Thingol and Celeborn, likely kinsman, had silver.
VardaValar1: Galadriel's seemed to have a mix of blonde and silver that
was exceptional.
VardaValar1: She was mixed blood Noldo and Sinda
VardaValar1: Teleri, pardon
Eonwe Valar: Noldo and Teler actually.
Eonwe Valar: er, you got it before my comment, my apologies.
VardaValar1: Vanyar are the only people that it is said had all or at
least mostly blond hair, set them apart.
VardaValar1: Typing at the same time, likely. Thanks. : )
VardaValar1: If the Vanyar are specifically mentioned as being
different for blond hair, the silvans/Teleri/Sindar were probably not
usually blond.
Eonwe Valar: I'm sure there's somethign in HoME about it :}
VardaValar1: I would assume since Vanyar were blond, and Noldo were
black-haired, the others were probably brown-haired.
Eonwe Valar: I recall reading in the book Splintered Light (I believe
it was) the author's thogught that it showed a nearness to "good."
VardaValar1: The Vanyar lived right by the holy mountain, but were
blond before that.
Eonwe Valar: Vanyar were close to manw, living on Taniquetil.
ArPharazonV: the Vanyar would be good, the Noldor more evil, and the
Teleri between them?
Eonwe Valar: Then there's all the blonde children in 1420 Shire
Reckoning.
Eonwe Valar: Well, don't think it was put quite that way, Phar.
VardaValar1: aye - blonde hobbits seemed to have been affected by the
soil from Lorien? : )
Eonwe Valar: I'm afraid I don't have the book as it was checked out
from a library, so I can't give quotes to make it clearer.
ArPharazonV: Pharazon was blond, wasn't he? *grin*
VardaValar1: That is the suggetion in the background though, the one
Phar made.
ArPharazonV: or did the Golden mean something else?
ArPharazonV: hang on, might be something in the appendix about that
Eonwe Valar: Golden probably referred more to the riches he gained and
gave away to win the hearts of the Numenoreans.
VardaValar1: But since the Vanyar were blond before reaching Valinor,
it would have nothing to do with the Valar.
ArPharazonV: I am sure there was something in the Appendices about
Pharaz meaning gold, and it may be clarified there, but I don't know
where
ArPharazonV: the index doesn't seem to cover the appendices
Eonwe Valar: Look under Calion.
Eonwe Valar: Or Ar-Pharazon :}
ArPharazonV: I thought it was an example in the languages section or
something
ArPharazonV: and indeed, the index does not cover the appendices
Eonwe Valar: Ok, not there..hmm, I recall what you're talking about,
but now don't know from where.
Eonwe Valar: Pharaz is Adunaic, and the roots in the back of the Sil
deal strictly with the Elvish Languages.
ArPharazonV: neh, I found it.. just seems to be an example in the "ph"
combination in the Writing and Spelling appendix... E, I think
VardaValar1: back again. DeepGroover won another pile of awards for his
models. : )
Eonwe Valar: Congrats to him :}
ArPharazonV: but yes, I think it portrays rather his wealth than his
hair, after doing some research in the internet, though the explanation
of the name doesn't seem mentioned anywhere,
ArPharazonV: it does say he took the title "the Golden" after taking
the throne...
ArPharazonV: but how accurate that is, I cannot say
VardaValar1: In Adunaic, Pharazon is supposed to mean Golden, but
that's not much help.
VardaValar1: Ar of course meaning high or royal
ArPharazonV: indeed, pharaz does mean gold, as in the example I
mentioned in appendix E
ArPharazonV: so if he was called Ar-Pharazon from the start, it could
mean his physical appearance, but it could also be that the name was
only given to him afterwards?
VardaValar1: Numenoreans of high birth were usually black-haired and
grey-eyed.
VardaValar1: Numenoreans in general were black-haired and grey-eyed,
for that matter.
ArPharazonV: true, that
ArPharazonV: Aragorn was blackhaired too
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: So was Faramir
VardaValar1: Mayhap we should let you sleep, Phar : )
ArPharazonV: and if we look all the way back to the Silmarillion...
Elwing had dark hair and Earendil blond hair, right? Is it ever
mentioned what color hair Elrond and Elros had?
VardaValar1: I believe Elrond's was black
VardaValar1: so his twin would have black hair.
ArPharazonV: ayup
VardaValar1: Think that was where Arwen got her black hair
ArPharazonV: and his line with him
ArPharazonV: true
VardaValar1: Blond hair kept disappearing, proper in a recessive trait.
VardaValar1: Interesting that it didn't reappear later
VardaValar1: Guess it was bred out or they dyed their hair black : )
ArPharazonV: sometimes recessive traits *can* reappear later, if
Pharazon was such a case it would explain why he was named that way
VardaValar1: Aye. I am surprised the blond didn't come back.
ArPharazonV: if the whole line has blond hair, not much sense to name
someone within that line after it
VardaValar1: Aye
ArPharazonV: but if the whole line has dark hair and one with blond
hair stands out, that's a reason for a name
VardaValar1: I have to agree with Eonwe that it referred to his immense
wealth
VardaValar1: and possibly went well with his ego.
ArPharazonV: wouldn't that depend on whether he had the name "Pharazon"
before or after he came into power? he wasn't even the rightful heir to
the throne
VardaValar1: True, he wasn't.
ArPharazonV: if he was named Pharazon before that, one would wonder why
VardaValar1: He was in the royal line, as the nephew of Tar-Palantir
though
ArPharazonV: true
ArPharazonV: still seems odd to me though, but it's possible
ArPharazonV: we can't know, can we? :-)
VardaValar1: He was the son of Gimilkhad, who was the younger son of
King Ar-Gimilzor
VardaValar1: We might. Have to dig pretty hard, if it's there to find.
Eonwe Valar: Pardon for my silence, answering Fangluin's question.
VardaValar1: Thank you
VardaValar1: I sent him a private message to avoid cluttering the rp
board any further until we could straighten it out.
VardaValar1: I'm sure it said the same thing. : )
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: I'm going to leave a note in the RP for one week to say
look to our MEORP Discussion thread, then I'm going to delete it after
1 week.
Eonwe Valar: That should be long enough to direct anyone interested to
where the conversation should be.
VardaValar1: Good answer
VardaValar1: It just came up over here. Slight lag
top
After-meeting:
VardaValar1: I think I'm going to call it a night for the chat. It's
been fun!
Eonwe Valar: Take care Varda :}
Eonwe Valar: HAve fun in LotRO :}
ArPharazonV: Namarie Varda!
Eonwe Valar: (I know that's where you're going, heheh :}) [Did eventually, after cooking supper and
washing dishes. Eonwe showed up in WoW and LotRO.]
VardaValar1: I would like to if the comp is free. : )
VardaValar1: Think you might be going in, Eonwe?
Eonwe Valar: If I think I can do something through the lag, I'll
consider it.
Eonwe Valar: I'm 1/3 away from my epic flying mount on WoW, though.
VardaValar1: Then do that : )
ArPharazonV: oh, nice
Eonwe Valar: 2200 gold roundabouts.
ArPharazonV: I've been spending so much cash on enchants and gems, I'm
down to about 150g again :-)
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Take care, friends : )
ArPharazonV: so guess I need to get another 5000g ;-)
Eonwe Valar: I'm too cheap to spend money on enchants :}
Eonwe Valar: Take care Varda :}
ArPharazonV: yeah, me too, normally, but as I'm now raiding again...
ArPharazonV: gotta show a bit of good faith :-)
Eonwe Valar: Getting gear to get gear. What logic.. :}
VardaValar1: Eonwe, I'd be glad to do enchants for you if I can and we
have mats : )
ArPharazonV: getting gear into shape etc
ArPharazonV: it's not about the gear, Eonwe.. it's about facing bosses,
overcoming challenges
ArPharazonV: and if you have your gear in shape, that definitely
helps... for one thing, it shows that your dedication, and you'll
remain welcome in the group :-)
ArPharazonV: *that you're dedicated
VardaValar1: What group? : )
ArPharazonV: the raidgroup!
VardaValar1: It's turning into a ghost town in Lothar
Eonwe Valar: Trying to gear a Ret Pally is no cakewalk.
ArPharazonV: Argent Dawn is doing fine... we lost some people to LotrO,
or because of the expansion that tore apart most raiding communities,
or just because of boredom with the game...
ArPharazonV: but we're still standing strong
VardaValar1: I mean the Lothar Valar group, actually
ArPharazonV: ah, ok
Eonwe Valar: Most of the Lothar group went to LotRo.
VardaValar1: Aye, we did.
Eonwe Valar: I don't blame you, though.
ArPharazonV: no, I know
VardaValar1: But we still have some of us in WoW : )
ArPharazonV: hehe
Eonwe Valar: I'm not going to have hard feelings about you guys going
to a game you can and do enjoy.
ArPharazonV: indeed!
VardaValar1: We don't have good enough comps to put us all into WoW at
the same time [Meant LotRO. We
can do 3 of 5 of us same time in WoW.]
Eonwe Valar: I'm glad you guys have kicked it off so well :}
VardaValar1: Thanks : )
VardaValar1: Namarie : )
Eonwe Valar: Take care :}
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
VardaValar1 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: I would say that I went into WoW because I'm a
warcraft-fan, and without Warcraft I would have gone into LotrO...
ArPharazonV: but without Warcraft I'd never have found the Valar anyway
:-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Aul dragged me into Diablo :}
Eonwe Valar: I did come in on Starcrft :}
Eonwe Valar: Starcraft even.
Eonwe Valar: afk for a sec
Eonwe Valar: Ok, the RP stuff is taken care of.
Eonwe Valar: I think I'll call it here as well and figure out my next
move, whether I'm going to do some coding or play some games.
Eonwe Valar: Take care all, good night, sleep well, and have fun.
ArPharazonV: allright
ArPharazonV: I'll just save the transcript then
Eonwe Valar: And Hapyp Memorial Day for those observing it tomorrow./
Eonwe Valar: *Happy.
Eonwe Valar: Good luck with your raids, Phar.
Eonwe Valar: Make some time for Valar guildies over there as well
though :}
ArPharazonV: I'll try :-)
Eonwe Valar: Ok all, take care, good night, sleep well, and hav efun :}
Eonwe Valar: *Makes himself unseen to mortal eyes*

Xseanzee disco has left the room.
