LaurealasseHelka: ((Hi))
ArPharazonV: apparently bringing a new candidate member

LouieKisKowsKi: am i a full member?
VardaValar1: I hope to let you know what that is soon on the News page.
Eonwe Valar: Did you take the LotR test and pass? :}
Eonwe Valar: (Yes, Elros, you are :})
VardaValar1: For all of you wondering the same as Elros is, check the

VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/guild/members.htm
LouieKisKowsKi: Elros... I know is my name, does anyone know why my
linked screen name will not show up here?
VardaValar1: It's not your main screen name, I think is why.
LouieKisKowsKi: poo, sorry crew
VardaValar1: Elros, your current status is: do you wish to be
associated with Valar for 2007?
LouieKisKowsKi: I have to jet all, fare well wherever you fare
VardaValar1: If you folks have answered yes already, a 2007 shows up in
the far right.
VardaValar1: Namarie, Elros.
LouieKisKowsKi: yes
LouieKisKowsKi: fo 2007
LouieKisKowsKi: 8
LouieKisKowsKi: 9

VardaValar1: So that's four new members this week. Not shabby.
VardaValar1: We'll see what we can do for your friend, Fin
VardaValar1: And we have Laurelasse here as a guild friend. :
)
VardaValar1: whose name I just butchered, sorry.
FinduilasV: shall i tell you a bit about him?
VardaValar1: Not yet
LaurealasseHelka: *laugh*
VardaValar1: Side window would be good.
VardaValar1: Laurealasse is hoping to do some writing for us : )
VardaValar1: Any further member news?
LaurealasseHelka: *nods*

VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: We have a new article on the Istari underway by
Maeglin-(TV) but unfortunately isn't ready for you folks by meeting
time.
VardaValar1: Any other web news?
VardaValar1: Some code tweaking, not too visible though. : )
top
VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Which games non-WoW and non "secret" have you folks played
this past week?
VardaValar1: Earendil is
playing Vanguard, and emailed
us.
VardaValar1: He regrets that work put him back on for Sundays and he
can't show up to the meetings.
VardaValar1: LotRO
"Lord of the Rings Online" is making steady progress and we hope that
it will be coming out on April 24
VardaValar1: Reports from beta players are very positive.
VardaValar1: Lore nuts are picking on them constantly and we think
everyone will really be able to tell. : )
VardaValar1: Finduilas, did you have more to add on the LotRO report?
FinduilasV: yes i rthink so ..
FinduilasV: there is a very interesting offer for preorders which will
be available from march onwards
FinduilasV: the exact date when available will be released
FinduilasV: 99 Pound sterling for lifetime membership or 7 each month
when purchased as part of a six month package
FinduilasV: and some goodies for preorders
VardaValar1: For those of you considering LotRO, be sure to have a very
strong video card and shove all the memory you can into your machine.
VardaValar1: It's not made for old computers.
FinduilasV: what is the olderst computer varda? my lap is two and a
half years old
VardaValar1: Eonwe, would you like to translate that to US dollars?
Eonwe Valar: Sure.
Eonwe Valar: That's $9.99 monthly
Eonwe Valar: and $199 for lifetime.
LaurealasseHelka: Wow... That's a great deal.
VardaValar1: Do other games ever offer lifetime? I'm really eyeing that.
Eonwe Valar: The lifetime payment works out to a little more than you
pay annually for you WoW subscription if you pay monthly :}
Eonwe Valar: So, 1 year of WoW, or a lifetime of LotRO? :}
FinduilasV: the only thing is that the number of preorders is limited
VardaValar1: Paying at different times, we will be doing both. : ) My
family that is.
Eonwe Valar: The US version of what Finduilas shared says you can start
preoders on Feb 1st
Eonwe Valar: *preorders
VardaValar1: Anyone who can get in the beta needs to do it right away
to give input into how this game turns out.
VardaValar1: They actually listen and we do make a difference.
Eonwe Valar: Preordering apparently gets you into the Open Beta as well.
VardaValar1: Aye, very nice. : )
VardaValar1: Go for it if you can!
LaurealasseHelka: *will try*
VardaValar1: We have some time. : )
FinduilasV: i will as soon as possivble , will try too
VardaValar1: Anyone trying for the beta who is in Valar needs to
mention our guild name.
Eonwe Valar: Feb 1st is a Thursday, so I think I know where I'll be
after class... :}
VardaValar1: It can help you and us get into the beta.
LaurealasseHelka: Lol
VardaValar1: The more members who sign in as Valar, the higher
percentage we get.
VardaValar1: WoW
is really popping now
VardaValar1: We have a lot of people making blood elves and dranei
VardaValar1: Don't forget to put them in the Valar channel so we can
find each other.!
VardaValar1: We need some of the officers on fairly often to give guild
invites to all these new characters.
VardaValar1: WoW
Europe, do we have a report?
FinduilasV: we have actually
FinduilasV: not a very long one , but we have one :-)
FinduilasV: Finduilasse and Orophin joined up for a bit of hunting in
Felwood, the deadwood furblolg
FinduilasV: as you know , they provide feathers and reputation which is
very useful for the passage to Winterspring and a later quest which
Findu just completed :_
FinduilasV: We were joined by a dwarf, or rather Orophin joined us
there, and had a very entertaining time
FinduilasV: as the proven team of human, elf and dwarf
FinduilasV: Later on in the week Finduilasse and Orophin went to
|Jaedemar to get some Moonwell water dfor Orophin and had a shot a
Xaveric at Jadefire run yesterday
FinduilasV: IUnfortunately we ran out of time and Orophin had to go so
we will return later
FinduilasV: This is all for :_
FinduilasV: nwo
FinduilasV: now
LaurealasseHelka: brb
FinduilasV: Oh ,a nd Finduilasse reached 57 and is very keen on 58 ..
FinduilasV: he is curious to get into the outlands
FinduilasV: done :-)
VardaValar1: Thank you, Finduilas. : )
VardaValar1: Eonwe, would you like to give the Lothar report now?
Eonwe Valar: Sure
Eonwe Valar: This week's Lothar report is also a bit short, partly for
expediency.
Eonwe Valar: I came in a bit later than I'd expected, and found Arwen
and Bilbo questing in Outland. Hopefully one of them will add to the
Questing report on the Forum as I asked :}
Eonwe Valar: Elwing came in on her Paladin and was questing in
Darkshire, but I'm not sure who she was questing with.
Eonwe Valar: I went with Dracxil into Silithus to clear out some quests
in his quest log. Our primary fights were in the Silithus hives
Eonwe Valar: of Hive'Ashi and Hive'Regal.
Eonwe Valar: After getting only a couple of upgrades from Outlands
quests, I was pleased to learn it didn't take much to solo those lvl 60
elite bugs :}
Eonwe Valar: In the process of the fight, Dracxil's Paladin Beline
finally hit 60 :}
VardaValar1: Yay!
Eonwe Valar: After he logged off, since everyone else had gone as well,
I spent some time in Draenor doing some more quests, namely the bombing
runs.
FinduilasV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Actually, I believe Arwen said she and Bilbo had done
those as well, so there's somewhat of a questing report for their group
:}
FinduilasV has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: That concludes my report.
LaurealasseHelka: Back
FinduilasV: the ramparts i take it -) oh yes i know the names
VardaValar1: Aye, Bilbo showed Undomiel through the Outland Bombing
Runs.
FinduilasV: listening into the raid community channel frustrates
sometimes *grin*
VardaValar1: I saw it over the shoulder a bit, as we use the same comp.
Looked pretty wild!
ArPharazonV: oh, the bombing runs were fun
ArPharazonV: never done explosions for 45k damage before!
LaurealasseHelka: ((Brb- restarting AOL)
LaurealasseHelka has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Calaron's lvl 62 now, and still growing... almost done
with the Peninsula-zone
ArPharazonV: only replaced one piece of his epic gear so far, and it
killed me to get rid of it... but there was no other choice
VardaValar1: AOL aka American Offline.
VardaValar1: ouch, Phar.
ArPharazonV: eh, it didn't have a nice graphic anyway ;-)
FinduilasV: oh i found some really nice stuff for my Paladin , i got
the Dreadmist Belt and some big bad pouldrons
FinduilasV: i have a nice intellect shoulder pad as well but thats
onlyh cloth -)
LaurealasseHelka has entered the room.
FinduilasV: aiyata Laurelasse
LaurealasseHelka: *nods FinuilasV*
LaurealasseHelka: *is sorry for the butchering*
VardaValar1: Please whisper me suggestions however outlandish for
Tolkien topics.
LaurealasseHelka: Brb
ArPharazonV: outlandish?
ArPharazonV: nice pun
VardaValar1: : )
VardaValar1: My brother, Merry-V, is contagious.
top
VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: Song in the stories.
VardaValar1: In the Silmarillion, we see that song is the beginning of
creation.
VardaValar1: The theme was given by Eru, and he asked his Ainur to
embellish his themes.
VardaValar1: Later in the Sil, we see that song continues to have power.
VardaValar1: The song of creation is most easily heard in the water,
and the horns of Ulmo make it so strong as to be nearly irresistable.
VardaValar1: Fights are held with songs.
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: How does this idea of song carry over into the H and LotR?:
FinduilasV: :D
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya
FinduilasV: aiya oh Warrior :-)
Menelvagor Valar: Shaman nowadays.
FinduilasV: ah yes
VardaValar1: Welcome home, Menel. : )
ArPharazonV: you've got a shaman too? sheesh
Menelvagor Valar: from naught to 30 in about 10 days.
Menelvagor Valar: haven't played the last 4.
Glorfindel VG has entered the room.
FinduilasV: songs in the Lotr have a comforting equip
FinduilasV: err effect
FinduilasV: and encouraging
FinduilasV: or at least something special happens
VardaValar1: and power, as in Tom's.
FinduilasV: indeed , varda
FinduilasV: liberatiing
LaurealasseHelka: ((back))
ArPharazonV: trying to think Hobbit, but the only song I can think of
was the one sung by the Dwarves at Bilbo's place
Eonwe Valar: Elves sang songs as they entered Rivendell.
OneMatthus has entered the room.
OneMatthus: Aiya everyone
Eonwe Valar: Heya
Eonwe Valar: I know I've seen your name in a report recently, but could
you remind me of who you are, Matthus? :}
OneMatthus: Aldarion
Eonwe Valar: Aha! :}
OneMatthus: or Tar-Aldarion
OneMatthus: the new one
Eonwe Valar: Hail and Welcome to your first Guild meeting :}
OneMatthus: thatnk you
Eonwe Valar: We were just delving into the Tolkien section :}
OneMatthus: great
OneMatthus: what's the topic
Eonwe Valar: Discussing the power of Song as shown in LotR and the
Hobbit.
OneMatthus: oh! good topic
Eonwe Valar: Would you like Varda's opener for the topic?
OneMatthus: sure
Eonwe Valar: Menel and Glorfindel missed it as well, I believe, so
would also be useful to them :}
Eonwe Valar: VardaValar1: Song in the stories. In the Silmarillion, we
see that song is the beginning of creation. The theme was given by Eru,
and he asked his Ainur to embellish his themes.
Eonwe Valar: VardaValar1: Later in the Sil, we see that song continues
to have power. The song of creation is most easily heard in the water,
and the horns of Ulmo make it so strong as to be nearly irresistable.
Eonwe Valar: VardaValar1: Fights are held with songs.
Eonwe Valar: VardaValar1: How does this idea of song carry over into
the H and LotR?:
Eonwe Valar: There you go :}
OneMatthus: thank you
Eonwe Valar: MP :}
Eonwe Valar: So far, Finduilas mentions that some songs seem to have a
comforting effect.
Eonwe Valar: Pharazon mentions the Dwarf song in the Hobbit.
Eonwe Valar: I mentioned the Elves singing as the Dwarves entered
Rivendell in the Hobbit.
OneMatthus: Bilbo's song
OneMatthus: the road goes ever on
Menelvagor Valar: The lay of Gil Galad sung by Aragorn near Weathertop.
Eonwe Valar: What power or sginificance do these songs carry, if any?
Eonwe Valar: *significance
OneMatthus: is this an open discussion?
VardaValar1: Gildor Inglorion and his group's song
VardaValar1: Yes : )
VardaValar1: Jump in!
OneMatthus: History
OneMatthus: I think is some of the largest signifigance to any of the
songs
OneMatthus: they were based mostly out of lore and legend
OneMatthus: the power if you will could dirive from the simple fact of
it having have happend and that there was power in the action
OneMatthus: i suppose if you thought of them as sort of a folk song
Menelvagor Valar: I think the songs have more significance than that.
VardaValar1: How about the song fight between Sauron and Finrod?
Menelvagor Valar: As in real life, some Songs move the heart, makes it
stronger, or cry tears...
VardaValar1: Or Tom's use of song to control Old Man Willow?
Menelvagor Valar: In such a way one could say that any song has some
kind of power, to any heart susceptible to it.
OneMatthus: or every heart is suscptible to some but some are stronger
to resist
OneMatthus: if everything was created through song then everything is
connected through song
VardaValar1: So that might be how the song power works?
OneMatthus: indeed
VardaValar1: The Unified Field Theory of Song. I like it!
OneMatthus: even the Ainor are bound by being part of creation
VardaValar1: Aye
Menelvagor Valar: well, it is rumoured that all of life is a song (as
in real life).
VardaValar1: : )
OneMatthus: deeper we delve
FinduilasV: ah well how is he saying?
FinduilasV: only love and song will last forever
ArPharazonV: the Music of the Ainur didn't create any more Ainur,
though, so unless Eru created them also by music, the only connection
the Ainur can have to the music is that they had part in its making
FinduilasV: or music in common
FinduilasV: errr general
Menelvagor Valar: Only those properly attuned to the Song of Life can
hear some of it's melodies, but none of the mortal races, not even the
Elves were meant to hear the Song in full.
Menelvagor Valar: Only the Ainur, who were present at the Song know it
in full, and they will share but little of it.
Menelvagor Valar: Although in history it is known that the Ainur shared
some of it, hence were the Calaquendi born.
Menelvagor Valar: or created if you wish.
Menelvagor Valar: or changed if you want to use yet another word.
VardaValar1: "There is Eru, the One, who in Arda is called Iluvatar;
and he made first the Ainur, the Holy Ones, that were the offspring of
his thought, and they were with him before aught else was made."
VardaValar1: "And he spoke to them, propounding themes of music;..."
VardaValar1: then they adorn his themes.
LaurealasseHelka: ((Brb))
VardaValar1: Pardon, also answering a side window about the music with
the quote.
VardaValar1: When going through the books, take note of the singing.
VardaValar1: The elves do it a lot!
VardaValar1: It's all over the books
Menelvagor Valar: well, The Music wavered this way and that, swayed
back and forth by the discord of Melkor, and the Harmonious melodies
spun by those of the Ainur now known as the Valar.
VardaValar1: When you read it recognizing the power back of it, the
story does a subtle shift.
Menelvagor Valar: And thus by their singing and music Arda was created,
and its history spun out before them.
VardaValar1: Aye, Melkor wanted the song to be about him and be to his
glory.
FinduilasV: ah in the end he only magnified the glory of Illuvatar as
he said
VardaValar1: Right, Finduilas.
Menelvagor Valar: Therefore we can only assume that Arda in its whole
is based on music, and that its history is a Song on its own with
endless intertwining melodies, each with either the discord or harmony
at one of its zeniths.
VardaValar1: Eru worked all things that Melkor did to come out another
way.
VardaValar1: But it sure is tough to be hanging around during a discord!
VardaValar1: Well said, Menelvagor.
Menelvagor Valar: Aye, it is tough to be hanging around during a
discord.
VardaValar1: And the elves sing when you come into the sky with your
Sickle. : )
OneMatthus: so every life in arda is an individual song and part of the
greater song
VardaValar1: Right
LaurealasseHelka: I'll be back later, my friends.
LaurealasseHelka has left the room.
VardaValar1: Namarie
Menelvagor Valar: but as Elrond said at the Council of Elrond in the
Fellowship of the Ring, when Frodo said he would take the ring...
Menelvagor Valar: "Now is the time of the Shire Folk, this is their
hour".
Menelvagor Valar: It surely is a great discord, the War of the Ring,
but even as it brought the worst out in people, and Maiar (Saruman!),
it also brought out the best in people.
Menelvagor Valar: The Shire folk who rose as a little but most valiant
people.
Menelvagor Valar: The Gondorians who did not forget their Numenorean
heritage and emerged victorious in the end.
Menelvagor Valar: The Rohirrim who did not forget old oaths and came to
the aid of their old friends, and swore their oaths anew.
Menelvagor Valar: The Dunedain, the Rangers of the North, who did not
forget their lineage, returned to Gondor to claim their rightful place
among men.
OneMatthus: the hobbits were people who kept them selves and didn't
care for what went on outside there own borders even during the time of
the old kings at Fornost
Menelvagor Valar: For many dark days, the war, but for surely as many
it was those days that will be remembered as where the Light of the
West shone brightest on those valiant.
VardaValar1: The men of Dale, who learned to work together with the
Dwarves, and defended the northern passes.
Menelvagor Valar: For did not Aragorn, leading the desperate army to
the Morannon excuse those who could not move on any further and
released them...
VardaValar1: The elves who fought against the forces of Dol Guldur,
joining together to clear it.
Menelvagor Valar: Did those men not go to the Fords of the Anduin and
hold the crossings against the army Sauron had sent against the
Rohirrim to prevent them reaching Gondor, and utterly destroyed it...
Menelvagor Valar: And thereby completely redeem their lack of courage
to approach the Black Gate itself?
VardaValar1: A great deed.
Menelvagor Valar: Last, a special mention to Frodo and Sam, who ere the
end realized there would be no return journey...
Menelvagor Valar: Even though at that time they could return,
unscathed, yet unsuccessful...
Menelvagor Valar: They, as many others risked their lives, and were
willing to give it freely for the benefit of all.
Menelvagor Valar: And thus is it proven that Melkor's Discord only
worked to increase the Music as a whole and to the glory of Iluvatar.
VardaValar1: Beautifully sung, Menelvagor!
Menelvagor Valar: Thank you *bows*
FinduilasV: indeed *applauds and salutes Menelvagor with respect*
Menelvagor Valar: Ah, sorry for drowning you all out in my Music
making, but as it is with the Song, some are drowned by others, only to
arise at a different point.
OneMatthus: I am happly drowned in your music
VardaValar1: What OneMatthus said. : )
Menelvagor Valar: Thank you, I am touched.

"Scouting
Ahead": Valar Guild Forum role-play discussion:
VardaValar1: Would the group care to continue, move to the rp, or
choose up for gaming?
VardaValar1: rp folk, we might do a bit of forum dialog on the story?
Eonwe Valar: Clarify forum dialog?
VardaValar1: Scouting Ahead rp, dialog while we are still live here?
FinduilasV: are we set off yet?
Eonwe Valar: OK
ArPharazonV: we're about to gather to leave Erebor, no?
Eonwe Valar: I've been waiting for the setting off post to see if
others are going to add anything, and also to figure a way to keep
continuity.
FinduilasV: let me finish off these winterfall then i ll be with u for
another half hour or so then we can talk
Eonwe Valar: Ancalagon has asked me to provide a synopsis of the story
so far, so here it is.
Eonwe Valar: Auros a Noldo, Fainan a common Silvan Elf, Calion a noble
of some degree in the house of Thranduil, and Haran a Dwarf (not quite
sure from which Dwarf settlement) meet at the Forest Gate on the West
of Mirkwood.
Eonwe Valar: Auros is one of the scouts sent out by Elrond from
Rivendell to search for signs of Sauron's movements in West of
Middle-Earth. His task was to check along some of the Northern area,
leading him to Erebor.
Eonwe Valar: Fainan and Calion were sent as escorts.
Eonwe Valar: Haran was sent apparently by Elrond, and seemed to have
expected to meet a Man and a Noldo.
Eonwe Valar: Spiders attack as Haran reaches the Forest Gate and tries
to gain entry to Mirkwood from the gate's wardens. Haran is wounded in
the battle and is carried in for treatment.
Eonwe Valar: Auros arrived at the gate at night, after having come
across the spider who had wounded haran.
Eonwe Valar: Auros gains entry to Mirkwood. A human female arrives, and
on her trail are Wolves.
Eonwe Valar: The group battles the wolves, Auros is injured slightly.
Battle is won.
Eonwe Valar: Two wolves are left, one tries to attack and is killed,
the other is tamed by Calion.
Eonwe Valar: It is determined some evil will was working on these
wolves their the pack leaders.
Eonwe Valar: *leader
Eonwe Valar: Human female leaves, Eagle-type bird appears, chats with
Calion, Group leaves.
Eonwe Valar: The group at this point consists of Auros, Fainan, Haran,
and Calion.
Eonwe Valar: Tension is already evident by Auros toward Calion.
Eonwe Valar: The group spend the night in a flet, ride on in the
morning.
Eonwe Valar: As the day wanes, an oppressive shadow begins to press in
on the group, felt most acutely by Auros.
Eonwe Valar: They stop, make a fire, try to stay cheery, Estarion
stumbles his way into the group.
Eonwe Valar: Estarion is an Avar.
Eonwe Valar: Haran has "felt something in the earth." Not long after,
ground-dwelling spiders that can be likened to trap-door spiders emerge
from the earth around the campsite.
Eonwe Valar: At first, Auros think the best choice is to remain the
night, but eventually changes his mind and plans for escape are made.
Glorfindel VG has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: After some forrays against these spiders, which aren't
native to Mirkwood but rather revealed by Haran to be held in some old
tales by Dwarves, an apparent escape is made.
Eonwe Valar: During the forrays, Estarion is wounded, dislocating his
shoulder.
Eonwe Valar: The group, including Calion's new pet "Helvy" make it past
the Enchanted River, and eventually arrive at Mirkwood.
Eonwe Valar: Council is held with Thranduil, soldiers sent to
strengthen the defenses along the Forest Path.
Eonwe Valar: Auros and the group leave the next day, with roughly 7
soldiers extra in their train, but no Haran.
Eonwe Valar: Haran is re-encountered in some sort of madness at the
edge of Mirkwood.
Eonwe Valar: The extra soldiers are sent back to Mirkwood to defend
against whatever had gone after Haran, the group continues further on
until they make camp by the river.
Eonwe Valar: (Insert travelling time to reach Dale, bypassing Laketown)
Eonwe Valar: The group arrives at Dale. Auros warns everyone to be
careful about talking to much.
Eonwe Valar: He goes to meet with other Noldor who are scouting the
north, gathers information on their travels, and waits until they have
all left before he himself leaves.
Eonwe Valar: Returning to the inn where he has aquired lodgings for the
night for the group, Auros have the innkeeper prepare provisions for
tomorrow. Auros' intentions (as revealed later) were to head North from
Erebor.
Eonwe Valar: The next morning, the group goes to Erebor, minus Haran.
Eonwe Valar: Council is held with Dain, King Under the Mountain.
Eonwe Valar: Auros learns that he must return to Rivendell with all
possible speed, instead of heading North to join the other Scouts who
were heading North along the old borders of Angband, to Gundabad and
along the borders of Angmar.
OneMatthus has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: That brings us to now.
OneMatthus has entered the room.
Arwen V1 has left the room.
Sarujil: so why do you have to go to rivendell?
Eonwe Valar: Auros' plans are to go straight from Erebor to Mirkwood,
bypassing any other civilization on the way.
Eonwe Valar: Because I have to report back to Elrond :}
FinduilasV: Dain wants to make sure that Gloin gets the right
information, knows that it comes really from Dain and provide an extra
guardian for him
Eonwe Valar: Ah, thanks, Finduilas.
Sarujil: what is this info? just about the spiders?
Eonwe Valar: My apologies, I should also added that the group picks up
Frali in Erebor.
FinduilasV: no problem eonwe , and that even though he stumbled
somewhat foolishly into the council of all when he tried to eavesdrop
:-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: One sec, Ancalagon, I'll grab you some info about these
spiders directly from the story and our discussions.
Sarujil: frali's purpose is as escort?
FinduilasV: yes
FinduilasV: and messenger too
Eonwe Valar: And mail delivery :}
Sarujil: mail delivery?
Eonwe Valar: Frali is delivering some sort of correspondence to Gloin
in Rivendell.
Eonwe Valar: Everyone being an escort to Auros gets kind of bland after
a while :}
FinduilasV: informs him about the latest enemy movement i think
FinduilasV: and serves as authentification that the scouts actually
have reached erebor
VardaValar1: The story is shifting and Fainan is not going to go with
you to Rivendell.
Eonwe Valar: Why not?
OneMatthus has left the room.
VardaValar1: No reason to.
VardaValar1: She would go on to investigate this increasing shadow
happening to Mirkwood.
Eonwe Valar: True....
VardaValar1: She is only your escort while you are in Mirkwood.
Eonwe Valar: So then we need a reason to reunite after Auros has given
his report to Elrond.
ArPharazonV: I'm not sure yet if Calion is coming with you as escort
all the way to Rivendell, but if so, he'll probably accompany you to...
Angmar, I believe we're going next?
Eonwe Valar: Unfortunately, we only have a two-month period to work in
for Auros, so he doesn't have alot of time for running around as well
as scouting the areas he's been assigned to scout.
Eonwe Valar: I figured Rivendell would be the best place from which to
move toward Angmar.
Eonwe Valar: Angmar is pretty much North of Rivendell.
ArPharazonV: yes, I figured that
ArPharazonV: if Calion was not to accompany you, however
ArPharazonV: he would most certainly continue on his brother's trail
from the "encounter" we had planned
ArPharazonV: and meet reunite with you at/near Angmar in any case
VardaValar1: Fainan is a scout. She would not necessarily be trying to
wipe out the threat in Angmar, but try to see how it could be done.
ArPharazonV: ehrr... skip that "meet"
Eonwe Valar: Ok Ancalagon, here's some of that spider info you asked
for:
Eonwe Valar: From Haran:
FinduilasV: ok people i figure i have to go
VardaValar1: I guess I didn't understand the placement we're using for
the Angmar threat.
Eonwe Valar: Lest you forget, my kind have dealt with many beasts in
the deep caverns that rarely show themselves to the light. Yet, it has
not been unheard of that they may stray in times of scarcity to feed
outside of their haunts.
FinduilasV: Namarie for now
Eonwe Valar: Take care.
VardaValar1: bye Fin
ArPharazonV: Namarie Findu!
Eonwe Valar: You know of wood spiders, but such loathsome beasts also
dwell within Arda that have their own trails to the surface.
FinduilasV: :-)
FinduilasV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: More than a few of my kin have been snared and dragged
away to places I shudder to think of without ever having been aware of
the danger.
Eonwe Valar: They are like ghouls in the night that appear and
disappear without a trace. Look not only to the forest and skies...
watch carefully the ground you walk upon, I say".
Eonwe Valar: End quote
VardaValar1: Well written, Arathorn. : )
Eonwe Valar: Later in that part it's also established an evil will
drives these things too.
Eonwe Valar: The most immediate threat to Mirkwood I suppose is this
"Gulhuine" as Phar dubbed it.
Srekal86 has left the room.
VardaValar1: Isn't that the darkness coming in from Angmar? Tries to
control?
ArPharazonV: Gulhuine, that's been a while...
Eonwe Valar: "That's been a while.." Sounds like you might be
rethinking that :}
ArPharazonV: no, no, I just don't remember much of what I said back then
Eonwe Valar: Our story has evolved since we began dabbling :}
ArPharazonV: it has taken so long, too... hard to remember the earlier
details
ArPharazonV: Gulhuine... heh, had completely forgotten about that
Eonwe Valar: I go over the complete story every now and then to try and
keep my parts in line.
VardaValar1: I remember. Spelling it right is harder. ; )
Eonwe Valar: I believe we'd established the Gulhuine originating from
Dol Guldur, but don't quote me on that.
ArPharazonV: trying to find where it is stated, but.. I honestly have
no idea
ArPharazonV: part 2? 3?
Eonwe Valar: Part 1 and 2.
Eonwe Valar: The spiders we dealt with in Mirkwood were pushing us
north, away from Dol Guldur.
VardaValar1: Dol Guldur was the original darkness. The Gulhuine was a
new devilry
VardaValar1: That is the Angmar hook.
Sarujil: maybe theyre pushing you to Angmar :-)
VardaValar1: Dol Guldur should not be allowed to be reinforced and we
need to stop it.
VardaValar1: uh oh. : )
Eonwe Valar: The ill will Auros deemed was driving the creatures was
northward from the attack as well.
ArPharazonV: yeah, I've basically been trying to personify that "ill
will", as you put it... which we discussed last week
ArPharazonV: in a way I'll be quite glad when this Calaron-arc is
over... I've been drawing the story towards me far too much :-)
Eonwe Valar: Funny, I thought that Auros generally had a commanding
presence in the story :}
Sarujil: That'll all change when Anc the Cowardly joins in :-)
Eonwe Valar: But hey, that's good! I'd like to keep the animosity
between Auros and Calion a bit fresh :}
VardaValar1: I felt the story really was about Auros' mission.
VardaValar1: The core story
ArPharazonV: the core story, yes
Eonwe Valar: Aye, the story is.
VardaValar1: The rest were B and C plots. : )
Eonwe Valar: :}
ArPharazonV: but I've been pulling this B-story out of a hat of my own,
mostly, and intend to have it influence the A-story quite a bit...
Eonwe Valar: I was planning the Rivendell part of the story to be the
significant point where leadership ends up with Fainan :}
Menelvagor Valar: btw!
Menelvagor Valar: I have some very very very late membership news!
Eonwe Valar: I had everything set out in my mind too, but now to replan
:}
VardaValar1: ack
Menelvagor Valar: Today is the 21st day I stopped smoking!
VardaValar1: Congrats Menelvagor!
ArPharazonV: yay!
ArPharazonV: keep it up
Sarujil: so let me get this straight: Auros was supposed to scout east
of the misty mountains, he discovers the trap door spiders and the
'ill-will' and those are what he has to get to rivendell asap to report?
Sarujil: grats!
Menelvagor Valar: thank you :-)
Eonwe Valar: Congrats Menel :}
Eonwe Valar: Well, he has that to report, but also what he has learned
of Sauron's movements in the Erebor/Dale area.
ArPharazonV: and the east of that :-)
Sarujil: what did he learn of saurons movements?
Eonwe Valar: That these trap doors spiders are not localized to the
attack on Mirkwood is certainly something to report.
Eonwe Valar: (Insert generic reports of Sauron's movements that would
be important to Elrond here) is what he learned :}
Sarujil: oh
Sarujil: perhaps anc the cowardly can help flesh that out a bit :-)
ArPharazonV: anc the cowardly, eh?
ArPharazonV: should be fun :-)
Eonwe Valar: Time is also a factor in the story. While Auros isn't
going by a clock, he has to be back in time for Elrond to set the date
of Departure for Frodo.
VardaValar1: Cowardly isn't going to be able to hang with us long
Eonwe Valar: I was suggesting the following to Acalagon for his
character in order to keep continuity.
Eonwe Valar: Auros' plan after learning what he could in Erebor was to
ride directly from Erebor to Mirkwood, skipping Dale.
Eonwe Valar: I figured though, that if Auros saw scouts riding in from
the West (the direction of Mirkwood) he would decide it may be a good
idea to see what these scouts have to report.
Eonwe Valar: He leads the group to intercept the scouts, talks with
their leader.
Eonwe Valar: The leader tells Auros of something unusual (discussion
brought to my mind the strange spiders we met in Mirkwood), sends one
of his scouts with Auros to show him where this unusual thing is.
Eonwe Valar: Something happens that makes travelling back across the
field to Dale unsafe, Ancalagon's character stuck with us at least
until he can be sent safer from Mirkwood.
Eonwe Valar: Perhaps his horse is spooked by a spider emerging from the
ground, runs deep into Mirkwood before we catch up.
Eonwe Valar: End of suggestion.
ArPharazonV: hmm... so we're going to skip Dale, you say...
ArPharazonV: and this is the early morning after?
Eonwe Valar: We've been there once already.
Eonwe Valar: Is there really a good reason to go back?
ArPharazonV: yes, but I myself have to go there to pick a... package,
shall we say
Eonwe Valar: There we go, Calion throwing a wrench into Auros' plans
again :}
ArPharazonV: so maybe my story in the new chapter could best be
introduced by riding north from Dale, having picked it up, and rallying
with you there
ArPharazonV: which means *you* don't have to go to Dale
ArPharazonV: because I just came from there
ArPharazonV: just means I got up a little earlier than you expected
Sarujil: are you guys taking the old forest road through mirkwood?
ArPharazonV: (and the blacksmith too, but we'll work that out)
VardaValar1: Checked map, Fainan's best route to check out Angmar is
through Rivendell. : )
Menelvagor Valar: not entirely Varda.
Eonwe Valar: Auros will be thrilled to hear from Fainan that she
couldn't find Calion :}
Menelvagor Valar: The quickest route is without a doubt through Mount
Gundabad.
Eonwe Valar: If you want to march into Orc-infested territory, yes,
Menel :}
Sarujil: the shortest route, maybe, doubtful itd be the quickest :-)
VardaValar1: hehe Auros
Eonwe Valar: The reason for the hostility of the Dwarves towards to
Orcs in the Third Age was because they held Mount Gundabad.
Eonwe Valar: well, more hostile that one would normally be to an orc :}
ArPharazonV: ok, forget my little twist, I just reread my post
ArPharazonV: apparently the smith would have my stuff ready "in a day
or two"
ArPharazonV: which means I won't be able to pick em up on this trip :-)
Eonwe Valar: Hehe, ok :}
ArPharazonV: I'll just send some messenger from Mirkwood with my
signature or something...
Eonwe Valar: I hope you arranged to have them sent to Mirkwood... ;}
ArPharazonV: "He had learned to work fast but thorough in these harsh
times, and would have them ready in a day or two.
ArPharazonV: Calion said that he might not have time to pick them up
for a few days, but would be there as soon as time would let him."
ArPharazonV: that bodes not well for our plans, I must admit...
ArPharazonV: I'll try to find some way to make it work, though
ArPharazonV: send a raven from Erebor, perhaps? ;-)
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Sarujil: whatever you do, dont send it along with anc
Eonwe Valar: Oh bah, it seems I'm responsible for that dreaded
"Gulhuine" :}
VardaValar1: lol
Eonwe Valar: Posted by Varda in our Discussion thread early on :
ArPharazonV: "hey, you, dwarf, I'm a friend of your king, so go south
and bring that smith a message to send my daggers to Mirkwood, will ya?"
Eonwe Valar: "At the meeting, Eonwe made a couple of nice suggestions
for naming the blight in Tolkien-style:Gulfuin or Gulhuine for "Gloom
Darkness Sorcery". "
ArPharazonV: I knew it! I knew I couldn't come up with a name like
"Gulhuine"... I know way too little Elvish for that
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: You didn't go look it up? : )
Eonwe Valar: You picked it for the name though :}
ArPharazonV: oh, I'm sure I did... but I wasn't the one who came up
with it :-)
Eonwe Valar: So does any of this give you any ideas for your character,
Ancalagon? :]
Sarujil: well, i have an idea for my character, but i need a bit of
assistance with one part of it, for continuity. let me run my idea by
you and see what you think
ArPharazonV: let's see now.. can't send a raven, can't send a dwarf...
Sarujil: first, i do need to know if you're taking the old forest road
or if you're cutting across country in your haste :-)
ArPharazonV: should I fire an arrow with a note attached to it?
Sarujil: i take it these daggers are a special order?
ArPharazonV: then again, I may be an elf, but I'm not Robin Hood... and
arrows were never my thing
ArPharazonV: aye! My own specially designed boom-aggers!
Sarujil: oh right. i think i read something about those
ArPharazonV: which I'm having crafted in Dwarven style by a blacksmith
in Dale ;-)
Eonwe Valar: The Old Forest Road is too far south.
Eonwe Valar: Auros might be able to prevail upon Fainan or Calion to
take paths more or less straight through Mirkwood towards the High
Pass, though, since the Forest Path, while great for a bit of review
(my, how much has changed in the last
Eonwe Valar: few days, and look! we fought ther enot long ago)
Eonwe Valar: Does tend to be not so great for direct southerly travel.
ArPharazonV: would be fun to ride past a tree with one of Fainan's
arrows stuck in it..
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: We could probably go at least halfway along the Forest
Path, roughly just after the Enchanted River, before any turning off
the path.
VardaValar1: We used the Forest Path to come in on, the same one that
Bilbo took.
Eonwe Valar: Aye
ArPharazonV: at least we would have to pass Thranduil's halls, of course
ArPharazonV: report back, let him know we're safe, etc
ArPharazonV: any news from Dain that might be helpful in Mirkwood, we
might deliver
Eonwe Valar: Aye, Auros suspected he couldn't completely skip
Thranduil's halls.
VardaValar1: Fainan needs to be officially sent by Thranduil to go
scout the Angmar area
Eonwe Valar: Or, one thing could lead to another, and bang! you're
there before you know it :}
VardaValar1: You know, the Grey Mts are north.
Sarujil: they are
VardaValar1: Mt. Gundabad is west of them
VardaValar1: We kept saying the darkness was coming from the north
VardaValar1: is the source possibly in the Grey Mts? Or just an
auxilliary maybe?
Sarujil: there might be dragons in the withered heath :-) maybe theyre
... dark dragons :-)
Eonwe Valar: All dragons are dark :}
Sarujil: depends on who you ask
VardaValar1: ok, so we head up from Rivendell how?
VardaValar1: hehe Ancalagon. : )
Eonwe Valar: The Withered heath is roughly north of Erebor, from where
his men have sent reports of our burrowing spiders.
ArPharazonV: well, I don't want to draw this tale back to Calaron, but
that necromancer controlling him now did have his base in the north, as
the "source" of the darkness
Eonwe Valar: Well, I figure at least Calion and Auros need reasons of
their own to into Angmar. I have some ideas for Auros' reasons already.
ArPharazonV: and after the ambush we have planned between him and our
party, and probably seeing that he fails to stop us from going to
Rivendell
ArPharazonV: he might travel to Angmar instead to pick up some strength
there
ArPharazonV: and await us there, for whatever dark reason ;-)
VardaValar1: The darkness is no longer contained inside Mirkwood.
Reason enough.
Eonwe Valar: That at least creates a reason for them to go, Fainan for
some reason decides to go, Auros and Calion can't agree on who will
lead, since it's not really "Auros' mission" anymore, and Auros
nominates Fainan.
VardaValar1: could threaten Rivendell.
VardaValar1: Fainan goes to scout Angmar. Needs to go through Rivendell
and therefore takes advantage of her associatin with Auros.
ArPharazonV: I have this little scene in mind where Auros prepares to
leave to Angmar from Rivendell, and Calion looks him up and says
VardaValar1: The lowliest in the group. hehe
ArPharazonV: "Look, I don't like you and you don't like me, but we both
need to go there, so let's go there together, allright?"
Sarujil: only until i join. cant get much lower than anc :-)
Eonwe Valar: I was thinking a similar meeting, Phar.
VardaValar1: You respect each other's fighting ability. It's your
common ground.
Eonwe Valar: A little head-butting goes on for who should lead the
expedition, Auros nominates Fainan for reasons to be revealed in the
story.
VardaValar1: We unite against a common enemy.
ArPharazonV: and Calion goes "sure, rather her than you!" ..but rather
more polite
VardaValar1: Fainan figures if she heads that way, they will go along.
Great leadership. : )
ArPharazonV: I wonder what Estarion will do, though
VardaValar1: This darkness threatens the Avari forests too.
VardaValar1: It isn't contained - moving around.
VardaValar1: We can stop it in our story, since it's not operating as
far as we know in LotR. : )
VardaValar1: We can't put an end to Dol Guldur, but Angmar, aye.
ArPharazonV: just a shame our heroic efforts will never make it to the
Book, eh? ;-)
Eonwe Valar: I figured Calion would rather have Fainan in command than
Auros :}
Eonwe Valar: Silvans and their sinister motives,... Calion probably
thinks he can sway Fainan more easily since he's a noble and she isn't
:}
VardaValar1: If it doesn't relate to Frodo and the Ring, it doesn't go
in the Book. ;-)
ArPharazonV: true enough, Varda ;-)
VardaValar1: Fainan is doing a job for Thranduil and her people. They
can come along if they like. : )
ArPharazonV: I wonder, though
ArPharazonV: what exactly is Calion ordered to do?
VardaValar1: Why does Anc the Lowly stick with us, and not turn back
along the way?
Eonwe Valar: That's a good question :}
Sarujil: maybe because ... you wont let him :-)
VardaValar1: Good question.
VardaValar1: Why won't we let him?
Eonwe Valar: Thranduil certainly could arrange for safe transport for
Ancalagon's character.
Sarujil: thats what ive been thinking about while you guys were talking
about whos gonna lead :-)
VardaValar1: or at least stuff him in a barrel...
ArPharazonV: haha
Eonwe Valar: Ok, relatively safe transport :}
Sarujil: i never did get to offer my idea for anc's character :-)
ArPharazonV: I'll send him to pick up my daggers *nod*
VardaValar1: Just type it in. : )
Sarujil: im a rogue, id probably pocket your daggers :-)
Eonwe Valar: Ok, offer then Ancalagon :}
VardaValar1: Human, so it's not kinslaying to kill that rogue.
Eonwe Valar: And give us his name too, so we can refer to him by name :}
VardaValar1: Convenient. ;-)
ArPharazonV: then I wish we had magic in this world, so I could have
them fashioned to return to me by command... killing those who would
have unjustified possession of them at the time...
ArPharazonV: would certainly be a surprising end for poor little Anc
VardaValar1: Well, we have some magic in our world, but not that
particular one far as I know. : )
ArPharazonV: killed by his own phat lewt...
VardaValar1: Type when ready, Anc the Lowly.
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Sorry Phar, no Light of the Two Trees for you :}
VardaValar1: I'll just stick with the trees anyway.
Sarujil: well, my idea is this: I get thrown out of dale for being
caught thieving. I'm angry so I wander around to blow off steam, get
lost, end up seeing ...something ... that spooks me out. so I stumble
across your camp while fleeing
VardaValar1: And we take you back to jail. : )
Sarujil: whatever that something was necessitates my going along with
you to rivendell, whether i like it or not. maybe to angmar too. just
gotta figure out that something
Eonwe Valar: I think Auros would know a trief when he saw one :}
Eonwe Valar: *thief
VardaValar1: That's a huge something.
Eonwe Valar: Auros doesn't trust a wolf tamed by an Elf. Why would he
trust a thief?
VardaValar1: Maybe on the way you see the effects of the darkness and
decide it must be stopped.
Sarujil: oh, and I figured you could just call me anc. Maybe I was
named after the dragon, and people call me Anc the Yellow :-)
ArPharazonV: too bad my daggers won't be ready for another day, or
those could handily be among the items you stole right before they kick
you out...
VardaValar1: But what can a lowly guy like you do?
VardaValar1: You find a group trying to fight it and join in, no matter
how crazy they are.
VardaValar1: lol
VardaValar1: Oh, but they were ready early!
ArPharazonV: hehe
VardaValar1: Blacksmith had a fit of insomnia.
Eonwe Valar: Craftsmen always act like it'll take longer than it really
will....except Auros, of course :}
Sarujil: i dont do anything. except hide. maybe i see something
important
ArPharazonV: all my new revolutionary finds I shared with him probably
kept him awake, yes
Sarujil: i could steal the daggers. that way when you capture me you
can get em back :-)
ArPharazonV: and as he was awake anyway, he figured he might go to work
anyway
VardaValar1: Anc hears us talking, realizes the daggers are his, and
says he's the one bringing them.
ArPharazonV: exactly, that was what I was thinking, Anc
Eonwe Valar: Sounds like another guy Auros keeps a watchful eye on, to
me :}
VardaValar1: That gives him an in with the party, without being hauled
back to jail or hands cut off.
VardaValar1: Auros thinks his story sounds off somehow.
ArPharazonV: hands cut off? you think they did that in those days?
ArPharazonV: a nice banishment would fit, but maiming...
Eonwe Valar: So they couldn't steal.
VardaValar1: Not mentioned. I think they just killed them or put them
on the front line. : )
Sarujil: but it doesnt give me an in to rivendell, unless you want to
have elrond mete out justice to me
Eonwe Valar: And so they'd have to be fed by relatives.
VardaValar1: Right, so I gave you another story.
Eonwe Valar: If you cut someone's hand off, and it's the prescribed
punishment for a crime, everyone knows exactly what he did.
VardaValar1: You pretend to be the one bringing the daggers
ArPharazonV: you're just intrigued by all the shinies you might steal
in Rivendell, and so you come along
ArPharazonV: and along the way you figure you've been looking at life
the wrong way!
Eonwe Valar: I don't know. If I don't trust this guy, why should I
bring him to Rivendell?
Sarujil: its true, i am an amateur jeweller. shinies really get my
attention easily :-)
Sarujil: thats what i was thinking
VardaValar1: But you can have some adventure as you come along and
decide to fight that darkness. You don't want to be controlled by
darkness any more than by other authorities.
VardaValar1: You need to genuinely want to stop the darkness.
Sarujil: thats why i think it should be not by my choice that i go to
rivendell
VardaValar1: It's too much trouble to take you along to Rivendell if
you're not one of us.
Eonwe Valar: My question is still how you would end up in Rivendell if
I didn't bring you :}
ArPharazonV: I might have something...
VardaValar1: Dump you off at Thranduil's Halls.
ArPharazonV: you're a quite infamous thief, have been around all over
the north
ArPharazonV: including stealing some stuff from Rivendell
VardaValar1: Take a thief with us to Rivendell to the Ring...
ArPharazonV: we catch you with it, and we take you back to Elrond for
justice!
VardaValar1: Why so far as to Elrond?
Sarujil: i dont have to be a gung ho hero like you guys to be useful :-)
ArPharazonV: because it was his stuff, Varda ;-)
VardaValar1: We need sneaky style fighters, like you
Eonwe Valar: I don't think anyone gets into Rivendell without Elrond's
knowledge.
Sarujil: but if i get lost in the desolation of smaug, i'm not exactly
a good traveller
VardaValar1: lol Phar
VardaValar1: Not likely
VardaValar1: We need to sneak into Angmar and check it out.
VardaValar1: We're not an army.
ArPharazonV: "hey, where did I put Vilya? It's gone!"
Sarujil: lol
Eonwe Valar: Rivendell isn't exactly a kingdom, but it's full of Elves
who know the art of war. The borders would hardly be unguarded, and
Elrond has one of the Three Rings.
VardaValar1: Aye, Eonwe
ArPharazonV: a mere thief getting away with one of the three rings...
it would certainly put a twist on things
VardaValar1: Glorfindel as the head of the fighters there too.
Eonwe Valar: Maybe thieves are common in Mirkwood, but we don't let
their find their way into Rivendell :}
VardaValar1: Thranduil does not suffer thieves. : )
Sarujil: well
ArPharazonV: real thieves get away undetected too, Auros... you might
have thought nobody got in, but you just didn't see them!
ArPharazonV: I'm just joking, though ;-)
VardaValar1: You would! : )
ArPharazonV: just tossing some incredible ideas around
Eonwe Valar: Elrond's one of the wise :} I don't think you can pull the
wool over his eyes :}
VardaValar1: Ok, so how does he really join us.
Sarujil: i think that in order for a guy like Anc to be useful, he has
to know something that cant be easily related to another person. like
seeing some important player's face
Eonwe Valar: As a thief, I'm not sure how he gets to Rivendell.
VardaValar1: I liked the idea of insinuating himself sneakily into the
party.
Sarujil: or seeing a rune or something thats needed to get into the
servants entrance to angmar :-)
VardaValar1: Now we're getting warmer.
ArPharazonV: we could Calaron kidnap him and take him to Angmar after
the ambush... *looks around shiftily*
VardaValar1: He'd be way corrupted before we reached him.
Sarujil: hey i dont want to be possessed by something :-) im crazy
enough without it :-)
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: possessed? neh.. it would never abandon a young elf for a
mortal low-life
ArPharazonV: it would simply capture you as a way to lure us to Angmar!
Sarujil: maybe i find out about cal but cant tell you guys in his
presence, so i convince you i 'know something important i can only tell
to elrond' heh
VardaValar1: Some other wight, but they prefer the dead. They can just
kill him.
Eonwe Valar: Well, a mortal might be easier to possess than an Elf :}
Sarujil: oh and by the way, these daggers had your name on em. i was
just holding them for safe keeping
ArPharazonV: yes, but the Elf is already quite under control by that
time :-)
Eonwe Valar: Weak weak elf :}
VardaValar1: Wights took over the dead bodies of men in the barrows.
VardaValar1: Aye, weak elf.
ArPharazonV: eh, forcing a guy to kill his girlfriend never leaves much
room for resistance afterwards...
VardaValar1: He should be quite angry about it.
VardaValar1: afk to raid the fridge.
ArPharazonV: any good loot, Varda? ;-)
Sarujil: thats it! anc has raided elrond's fridge, and he wants his
jello mold back!
ArPharazonV: so we bring you with us to Rivendell so Elrond can
question you as to the location of his jello mold?
Sarujil: exactly
Sarujil: i say i buried it outside of angmar, and its all taken care of!
Eonwe Valar: Elrond only pretends to eat jello. Everyone Noldo knows
this :}
ArPharazonV: and Elrond says: Allright, you go with him, and see if
he's talking the truth!
ArPharazonV: says that to Auros, I mean
Sarujil: oh come on, theres always room for jello! even in a half-elf!
Eonwe Valar: Elrond prefers Pudding pops :}
ArPharazonV: they can take away our lands... but they'll never take our
jello!
Sarujil: elrond is secretly wearing one of those mission impossible
masks, and underneath he is really bill cosby
Sarujil: it sounded plausible in my head...
ArPharazonV: and you're the only one who knows this, so we bring you
with us because you say you know a secret about Elrond?
Sarujil: hmm...intriguing
Sarujil: elrond has been juxatoposed with the huxtable clone, and im
the only one who knows it...
Eonwe Valar: juxtable by the huxtable?
Sarujil: you might say hes been huxtaposed
Eonwe Valar: ok, back to the story :}
ArPharazonV: allright, so, the way we meet: you've been thrown out of
Dale, or fled Dale, and you happen to be carrying my daggers
ArPharazonV: you come across us, overhear us, and join in under the
pretense that you've been sent to deliver the things
ArPharazonV: also, the way back has become dangerous with spiders and
all that, so you just need to trudge along with us to Mirkwood
ArPharazonV: whence you can get a safe transport back
ArPharazonV: how's that up to that point?
Sarujil: why do i want to go through mirkwood?
ArPharazonV: because you can't go back to Dale or they'll cut your
hands off?
Sarujil: yeah but i could always just go to lake town
ArPharazonV: well, word about you travels fast
Eonwe Valar: It's hard to get into Elf lands as a thief, plain and
simple :}
Sarujil: yeah i doubt you guys would trust me no matter what.
ArPharazonV: or... you already originate from Laketown, are already
wanted there, and came to Dale
VardaValar1: Back with taquitos. :-)
Sarujil: there has to be a reason you want to take me along
ArPharazonV: from which you have fled this time because they found out
you were "that guy" from Laketown
ArPharazonV: but that's up to you ;-)
VardaValar1: If Fainan can look directly into your eyes and see that
you truly want to fight this horror, she might take you along.
VardaValar1: Otherwise, forget taking you. :-)
Eonwe Valar: Auros would not be so trusting.
ArPharazonV: Auros already reluctantly tolerated a wolf, so why not a
human...
ArPharazonV: if Fainan really wanted to bring him, could Auros stop it?
;-)
Eonwe Valar: Depends on when Fainan wanted to bring him in :}
Sarujil: i dont mind being a wanted thief, but im not the courageous
type. i prefer the 'i know something i cant or wont tell you' angle
VardaValar1: If Auros actually wanted to leave him behind, I'd listen
to him.
VardaValar1: You can be a coward and want to stop the horror.
Sarujil: oh i forgot the 'that you need to know' part
ArPharazonV: how do we know that you're not lying? that you actually do
know something we need to know?
ArPharazonV: or can't we take that chance?
VardaValar1: You hope to slip in quietly and do the rune thing and have
us watch your back. We can take you there and back more safely than
alone.
Eonwe Valar: Auros, knowing the man wasn't being completely honest but
not sure about what he was hiding, might not leave him to die if there
was an attack, but he certainly wouldn't bring him further than
Thranduil's court,..
Eonwe Valar: where he could dump the untrustworthy fellow and be done
with him.
Sarujil: maybe i let it slip in order for you guys not to slice my
hands off. but it gets me more than i bargained for
VardaValar1: Auros is more important to my mission than you are at this
point.
Eonwe Valar: Auros doesn't have time to give thieves a chance.
VardaValar1: We elves won't cut off your hands. That's for the human
authorities.
ArPharazonV: yeah, we'd just "deliver" you to those authorities *nod*
Sarujil: ok to stop you from sending me to the humans who will slice my
hands off :-)
VardaValar1: :-)
Sarujil: there has to be something i say that convinces you im telling
the truth, but i dont know its that important
ArPharazonV: hey, look, mister king of Dale, we found a thief! Would
there happen to be a reward on his head? No? Oh well, too bad.. see ya!
Sarujil: otherwise i would not have told you for free :-)
VardaValar1: Just let me look into your eyes. : )
ArPharazonV: oh, I did that trick too
ArPharazonV: it got me a wolf *nod*
VardaValar1: If you don't see the horrors on your way to us, you may
see it traveling with us.
VardaValar1: You see it as dangerous to you personally, to your freedom.
VardaValar1: Also wrecks your current system for lifting phat lewt.
Sarujil: heh
ArPharazonV: we could always give you to Thranduil, but you escape, and
follow us from a distance, and when we discover you it's already too
late to turn back?
VardaValar1: Not too late for us to dump him along the way.
ArPharazonV: dump him where? he'd simply continue to follow
ArPharazonV: unless we kill him where he stands
Sarujil: not if you dumped me in the enchanted river
Sarujil: not that im suggesting yo udo that
VardaValar1: Aye. All Mirkwooders know about the Enchanted River. Might
even cure him of his thieving ways for a while.
ArPharazonV: until the time he woke up, yes...
VardaValar1: o well
ArPharazonV: but he'd probably follow us no matter what we did
VardaValar1: Hand him to the Beornings.
ArPharazonV: and we can't go back and give him to authorities
VardaValar1: Hand him to Glorfindel.
ArPharazonV: so we might as well keep an eye on him
VardaValar1: Hand him to Helvy. ;-)
ArPharazonV: Helvy? I'm not sure where he'll enter the story again
ArPharazonV: might even be Angmar
VardaValar1: His cousin Helveticus then.
Eonwe Valar: I think the Beornings would not be so pleasant with a
suspicious character as Auros :}
VardaValar1: He could use a snack too.
ArPharazonV: but we could hand him to Glorfindel, in any case
ArPharazonV: and see what happens there
Eonwe Valar: Elrond would detain him until after the Ring was well away
from Rivendell.
Sarujil: i wouldnt steal the ring :-) it has no gem
Eonwe Valar: Just to be safe, even thought Elrond could question him
and find that he knew nothing.
Eonwe Valar: thought = though
VardaValar1: \
VardaValar1: lol
ArPharazonV: if Elrond was convinced he was neither a threat nor an
obstacle, he could send him with us to Angmar and hope we could get rid
of him there ;-)
ArPharazonV: volunteer for a suicide mission, and all that
Eonwe Valar: Elrond's not like that :}
VardaValar1: Elrond would not endanger our mission.
VardaValar1: Gandalf is at Rivendell. :-)
ArPharazonV: turn him into a toad, or whatever it was?
Eonwe Valar: I might be in trouble for having been followed and not
knowing it.
VardaValar1: If Fainan doesn't know we're being followed, you should
fire her as a scout.
ArPharazonV: ah, but he doesn't need to be following you
ArPharazonV: he could always be following Calaron until the point he
ambushes us!
VardaValar1: Spiders would get him. He couldn't follow.
ArPharazonV: true, true
VardaValar1: or orcs or other fun things
ArPharazonV: besides, he's too cowardly to spend his time tracking a
force of orcs and spiders
VardaValar1: Reason he needs us. Some protection.
Eonwe Valar: I would hope Calaron or whatever's inhabiting him would
know if he's being followed.
VardaValar1: Then there's all those elves who are very tense right now.
ArPharazonV: we can't leave him at Thranduil's, that's clear... he
would never catch up with us again
ArPharazonV: so we need to take him with us... somehow, for some reason
Sarujil: maybe i try to secure my safety when you catch me by telling
you i heard something about a place where theres lots of treasure,
called angmar (i dont know what it is) and that i heard about the
secret entrance?
VardaValar1: Definitely don't want you along haring off after treasure.
Sarujil: well you know that angmar is not a treasure trove, its
important to you to know a secret entrance for a different reason
ArPharazonV: we're not actually heading to Angmar yet at that point,
are we? well, Fainan won't want to go there until Thranduil's Halls, I
won't want to go there until the ambush, and Auros won't want to go
there until Rivendell
VardaValar1: Not so secret if you heard about it clear in Dale.
ArPharazonV: so the prospect of a secret entrance to Angmar wouldn't
matter much too us until we actually reach Thranduil
VardaValar1: We don't know we're going to Angmar. : )
ArPharazonV: unless Auros deems it important enough to let Elrond know
that there's a secret entrance
ArPharazonV: exactly, Varda
Sarujil: ok.
VardaValar1: Or this thief claims there is.
VardaValar1: whose word we don't trust.
Sarujil: maybe that info comes out after you take me to thranduil and i
try to barter for me freedom there
ArPharazonV: well, he was nice enough to bring me my daggers...
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: or we get to Thranduil, and the smith has sent a messenger
there that the daggers were stolen
Eonwe Valar: Let's throw this thoef to the wolves and be done with
it... opps, did I say that out loud? :}
ArPharazonV: so when we get there, we know he's actually a thief!
Eonwe Valar: *thief, oops
VardaValar1: So Thranduil may suggest you give the info or remain
incarcerated for a few hundred years.
VardaValar1: Spiders. More convenient.
Sarujil: well, i dont know what angmar is. theoretically, i may not
even think myself capable of getting the treasure i think is there out.
therefore, i just got my freedom and gave away nothing i think is
terribly valuable
ArPharazonV: must be a swift messenger, though... if he needs to get to
Thranduil quicker than we do
VardaValar1: Gets there after we do, then.
ArPharazonV: but while we're still there? otherwise it won't matter :-)
VardaValar1: Right.
VardaValar1: Carrier pigeon. : )
VardaValar1: The message would probably come in with the next set of
trade goods.
ArPharazonV: interrupting our meeting with Thranduil, a guard comes in
to say: "Sir Calion, a blacksmith's apprentice just rode here to tell
you your daggers are stolen!"
ArPharazonV: but yes, a pigeon would be better ;-)
VardaValar1: Pigeons are not mentioned. I made it up.
VardaValar1: I figure it's more likely a note with the next set of
trade goods.
ArPharazonV: well, how long do we plan to be at Thranduil's place
anyway?
Eonwe Valar: Not long
VardaValar1: Very short.
VardaValar1: Overnight, probably.
ArPharazonV: exactly! so that note would have to be pretty darn quick
Sarujil: but wouldnt you find your daggers when you give me my body
cavity search?
ArPharazonV: yes
Eonwe Valar: No longer than it takes Thranduil to be satisfied that
we'd actually stopped at his castle.
VardaValar1: It's not going to arrive while we're there. Saving our
thief's hide a bit longer.
Sarujil: why do you need a messenger then?
ArPharazonV: but you yourself convinced us you brought them with you
from the smith
ArPharazonV: while the smith's message reports they were stolen, and
thus that blows your cover and exposes you as a thief
Sarujil: maybe you just discover some of your things going missing, and
find them in my possession
VardaValar1: You have them and brought them, after all. So it must be
true. But why did you stay with us?
Sarujil: telling you i brought the daggers from the smith is the first
thing i say to try and save my behind
VardaValar1: Aye. : )
ArPharazonV: yes, it is
VardaValar1: Then why not leave like a thief in the night?
ArPharazonV: where would he go?
Sarujil: i have nowhere to go
VardaValar1: Laketown wasn't it?
ArPharazonV: eh, he's probably wanted there already...
Sarujil: i hitch a ride to thranduil's place because i figure maybe i
can settle down there for a while, pretend to be a liaison or something
Sarujil: yeah laketown was my first conquest :-)
VardaValar1: Erebor would seem safer than scary Mirkwood.
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Well, he's not going to find newer, safer stomping grounds
by following us.
ArPharazonV: and he's not going to find it at Erebor either
VardaValar1: If he isn't going to hate the darkness and want to fight
if for his own reasons, he won't stay with us long.
Sarujil: being from lake-town, i know that the wood elves are friendly
people. and they dont know im the infamous anc the yellow, so they wont
turn me in
ArPharazonV: I think those Dwarves can get quite fierce if their
belongings are at stake...
VardaValar1: They don't stop at the wrist.
ArPharazonV: they'll slice your arm right off up to the shoulder!
VardaValar1: Sure, we elves are a fine lot, but Mirkwood is dark and
full of spiders and things that go bump.
Sarujil: yeah but after you find out im stealing your beryls from you,
you throw me in jail, i try to buy my way out with the agmar info,
which you now find useful, and i get carted to rivendell to help you
fight the shadow, by necessity
VardaValar1: No necessity.
VardaValar1: Extract the info and leave you.
Sarujil: not if its something i see, and have to identify. not just a
word to say or something
VardaValar1: It doesn't make sense that a thief from Dale would be the
only one with the info.
VardaValar1: It's probably in Elrond's or even Thranduil's libraries
now that you told us we should look for it.
ArPharazonV: open, sesame...
Eonwe Valar: It seems to me Aragorn's Rangers would be more likely to
have reliable info on Angmar.
Sarujil: maybe it is a bit too complicated. maybe its as simple as that
i say i'll help you fight the darkness if you'll let me out of this
darn cell!
VardaValar1: could be
VardaValar1: That does not make you sound like a trustworthy companion
at my back.
Sarujil: im a thief not a murderer :-)
VardaValar1: I don't know that. : )
ArPharazonV: whatever happens, at that point Fainan (and possibly
Estarion) are the only ones heading to Angmar at that time, so they
need to carry Anc with them
VardaValar1: I could ask a dozen silvans if I want more backup.
ArPharazonV: Auros and I are just going to Rivendell
VardaValar1: Calion might head that way to investigate the destroyed
post.
ArPharazonV: yes, but not actually heading to fight the darkness in
Angmar
Sarujil: the silvans are defending their homeland, the same reason why
none of them go to help out legolas in the battle of helms deep
VardaValar1: Then he wants to consult Elrond about what he found.
ArPharazonV: until Calaron ambushes us, of course
VardaValar1: Aye, Anc.
ArPharazonV: *then* I have a reason to go to Angmar
VardaValar1: Aye, Phar.
Sarujil: they can only spare you to go to angmar, im expendale though
:-)
Sarujil: expendable
ArPharazonV: but you'd actually have to be useful, Anc
VardaValar1: Expendable is not enough. And good point about the silvans.
ArPharazonV: they wouldn't endanger the mission by assigning a useless
burden
VardaValar1: But I only really need me to scout. : )
Sarujil: i am useful. im a renowned thief :-) sneakier than a elf, the
lake men used to always call me :-)
ArPharazonV: but do we consider that useful?
Eonwe Valar: Bah, when Noldor need a burglar, we go get a Hobbit :}
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Some of those at Rivendell.
ArPharazonV: well all the good Hobbits are already taken for that
Mordor-mission!
Sarujil: maybe its a moral question. you elves wont go steal something
that you need, but i'll steal anything
VardaValar1: Or we could ask Muddyfoot. : )
Eonwe Valar: Pardon,.. "Expert Treasure Finder." they get so touchy
about that :}
ArPharazonV: *grin*
Eonwe Valar: Why would we allow you to steal it?
Sarujil: yeah i dont worry about semantics
VardaValar1: Why then would we want to send a thief? It would be
immoral?
Sarujil: itsa grey area
ArPharazonV: we'll have him steal Angmar for our own purposes!
VardaValar1: How could we trust you with it once you got it?
Eonwe Valar: Noldor don't go after anything if they don't feel they
have a right to it, and then we bring an army with us :}
VardaValar1: Just like a Noldo.
VardaValar1: We silvans are more into guerrilla fighting or the Leroy
Jenkins style, like our Sinda king Oropher.
Sarujil: im just tossing around ideas :-) you guys have any about why i
would go to rivendell? maybe fainan just uses her eye trick on me, and
see im being truthful when i say i want to help fight
VardaValar1: Some of us decided that style is a tad risky though.
ArPharazonV: wouldn't it be nice if Thranduil just said to us "pff,
we've already got our dungeons full with Dwarves and everything, you
brought him, you just take him with you again!"
VardaValar1: But you don't seem to want to fight.
VardaValar1: Noooo, Phar!
Eonwe Valar: I don't think Auros would take kindly to that :}
VardaValar1: Stuff him in the barrel. Anything but that.
Sarujil: maybe the prospect of treasure and glory has gotten the better
of me :-)
ArPharazonV: "You disrespectful Noldo! I am king here, and if I say you
take him with you, you will!"
VardaValar1: Auros is expedition leader so the thief is his problem.
Sarujil: fortune and glory, as indy says it
VardaValar1: :-)
Sarujil: yeah big bad auros. what do you say to a thief?
VardaValar1: Now I know why he really wants to foist off leadership.
Eonwe Valar: I think that would stress his adherence to protocol, and
might end up in a not-so-good situation with Thranduil and his guards.
VardaValar1: Thranduil would handle it. He works with those humans
already.
VardaValar1: Call Legolas home to deal with it. What else are princes
for?
Eonwe Valar: Auros would call in not-so-kindly worded reminders of his
mission.
ArPharazonV: we have Anc locked up, he escapes into a barrel, which
just happens to be the barrel of wine we take with us on our journey to
Rivendell!
Sarujil: lol
ArPharazonV: and half way we find out "hey, something's moving in
there..."
VardaValar1: No, I still think Anc should have a great starting post
where he's slipping through the forest escaping the pursuit and bumps
into scary things of the Gulhuine, and decides they must be removed
from this earth.
Sarujil: so apparently there is no good reason for me to go with you.
maybe i'm just a small part, steal your daggers then get locked up. you
guys move on
Eonwe Valar: A barrel of wine?
Eonwe Valar: Just how much does Calion drink?! :}
VardaValar1: Then finds a way to do it. Using us.
ArPharazonV: anyway, you figure it out, it's too late for me.. I'll be
saving and going to bed
ArPharazonV: I'll be reading the rest!
VardaValar1: Legolas is just waiting around for all that time anyway. ;
)
Sarujil: removing them from the earth is too noble a thought for me.
but i might say that, in order for you to take me with you so i can
find my fortune and glory
VardaValar1: I think we pretty well exhausted it.
VardaValar1: Well, say it your way. : )
ArPharazonV: saved
VardaValar1: Smear them into the rockface.
VardaValar1: Thanks, Phar. : )
VardaValar1: I got the early part, we're good on the transcript.
Sarujil: i dont particularly care about saving the world. i am much too
selfish for that. but ill say anything to get some help finding gold
and jewels
VardaValar1: Then Fainan is not going to take you along. It's that
simple.
Eonwe Valar: There's no reason for Auros to trust you.
VardaValar1: I just got offered a gaming comp.
VardaValar1: Think I'll slip over to the Game which has a
non-disclosure agreement. : )
Sarujil: well, my character doesnt fit in then. ill just read about
your adventures from my jail cell in the lonely mountain, after i try
to steal the beard off of Dain's face :-)
VardaValar1: It can fit.
VardaValar1: I tried to suggest how.
VardaValar1: Poor Dain.
ArPharazonV: I'm sure you'll find a way!
Sarujil: yeah but i have a vision of him, that doesnt mesh into the
story. maybe later ill come up with some more noble character to help
you out, but anc is not noble enough to help for helping's sake
VardaValar1: Try thinking when you're not exhausted. : )
ArPharazonV: it's sent, Varda
ArPharazonV: Namarie all!
Sarujil: see ya phar
