the lifetime membership available during pre-order.

Varda's topic: We are always said to be talking
about trivia. This time, let's pick out what the Big Moments are - the
non-trivia.
After:
Ar-Pharazon told us about an online comic that
includes LotR mixed with a D&D game. Go to Irregular Web Comic and
use the Fantasy theme at the bottom and keep clicking Next.
Before-meeting:
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Arwen V1 has entered the room.
ArPharazonV has entered the room.
Star of Phaet has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Heya
Eonwe Valar: Afk for a sec
Star of Phaet: Aiya folks
ArPharazonV: I'll be here in 10 minutes, don't be so early!
VardaValar1: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Gives you some warning maybe :-)
VardaValar1: Aiya Gilraen :-)
VardaValar1: Aiya Arwen, Phar, Eonwe :-)
twosurlydwarves has entered the room.
twosurlydwarves: hey
ArPharazonV: allright, I'm here
Sarujil has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: had to finish Gurok the Usurper first!
VardaValar1: We still have a little time : )
ArPharazonV: got lvl 69 today, been enjoying my flying form since lvl
68 ;-)
twosurlydwarves: sweet
VardaValar1: Nice : )
ArPharazonV: our raidgroup went back to Naxxramas this week, mostly 70s
and a few like me a bit lower, I was 68
ArPharazonV: so easy...
ArPharazonV: bosses scale, but only in hit-chance, crit-chance etc
ArPharazonV: they don't do more damage and they don't have more health
twosurlydwarves: I was going to say, he should be a lot easier at
higher level
twosurlydwarves has left the room.
ArPharazonV: and the trash... like a knife through butter :-)
ArPharazonV: was great fun!
twosurlydwarves has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: we're going again next friday, but only 70s allowed
then... so I have 5 days to get 700000 experience ;-)
twosurlydwarves: I need to stop doing that
ArPharazonV: also got to lvl 350 leatherworking today... so the real
fun starts, because everything from here is very expensive to make ;-)
twosurlydwarves: good luck :-)
ArPharazonV: flying form is so much fun... I grouped up with a hunter
in my guild earlier, and I let myself drop and shifted back to flying
form a bit above the ground
ArPharazonV: he said he could do it too, and dropped... but used his
parachute too late... and died ;-)
twosurlydwarves: lol - oops
Eonwe Valar: Back.
FinduilasV has entered the room.
FinduilasV: Aiya all together :-)
VardaValar1: Aiya Finduilas :-)
ArPharazonV: aiya Findui!
FinduilasV: Jo, Phara
FinduilasV: shame i could not capture that stadium .. , Horde decided
to team up at the wrong time '-)
FinduilasV: just missing that one to complete that quest ..
VardaValar1: Now inviting
ArPharazonV: I'm sure you'll get it... at least it's easier to get when
it's in horde hands than when it is in alliance hands :-)
LaurealasseHelka has entered the room.
FinduilasV: hehe true '-)
LaurealasseHelka: Hey
VardaValar1: Heya : )
FinduilasV: Aiya Laurelasse
Shaggyjoe has entered the room.
TwoSurlyDwarves: This is true, it gets annoying, sitting around waiting
for someone to attack so you can do the quest.
VardaValar1: Aiya Gelmir : )
ArPharazonV: that's why many in my AD guild have alts on horde-side,
they just get some people to attack the stuff so you can capture it
back ;-)
FinduilasV: Heya Gelmir :-)
Eonwe Valar: Heya Gel
TwoSurlyDwarves: That works
FinduilasV: hehe good trick, but we made a good team at the overlord,
five allies and three horde
FinduilasV: we helped each other
VardaValar1: Let's get this meeting going, then you can go back to
gaming after : )
ArPharazonV: this week I've been spending most of my time in Nagrand
though, also a lot of fun.. that neutral city, Halaa, is fun to fight
over
FladrifV has entered the room.
FladrifV: Aiya!
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
FinduilasV: Aiya flad :D
VardaValar1: Good to see your internet working again, Ent : )

VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: We've had a few more emails trickle in on the Sweep, saying they want to stay with
us.
VardaValar1: At the end of February, people who we can't contact will
be dropped.
VardaValar1: That's not long
VardaValar1: If you see someone on the Members page whom you know is
active, let me know.
VardaValar1: I mean, if they are in danger
VardaValar1: About to let myself in for it that time!
Shaggyjoe: Good evening folks!
Shaggyjoe: I have to leave for work right now unfortuneately.
VardaValar1: SamWise-(Valar)
has not been receiving our emails on his main email and is trying to
find out why. I got him on an obscure account.
VardaValar1: Ok, thanks for dropping in!
VardaValar1: TJ-(TV) who makes
an amazing Middle-earth map sent in a letter thanking our site for the
large number of people who go to it directly from our site.
VardaValar1: 3,885 unique guests from us
VardaValar1: Also, the guild needs help from all of you
VardaValar1: We have been lax about recruiting,
as the website has been doing it so well for us
VardaValar1: We used to be quite active
VardaValar1: We need to be active again
VardaValar1: Thank yous, to several of you who have started scouting
again!
VardaValar1: It's a much appreciated effort!
FinduilasV: /me bows
VardaValar1: Eonwe tells me that several people have reported the same email problem that Sam had.
VardaValar1: Go Finduilas, Beorn, and others who know who they are, and
those I know not of!
VardaValar1: Please put Eonwe and me in your contacts list to help make
sure our emails have a better chance of reaching you.
VardaValar1: We try to keep most of our necessary communication on the
News page, but sometimes we do need to make direct contact.
VardaValar1: We try to avoid mass emails except at Games page updates
and member removal time.
VardaValar1: Any other suggestions to help on the email front?
VardaValar1: If you can't reach us, as has happened, jump onto the
Forum!
Eonwe Valar: You all have registered on the Guild Forum, right? :}
VardaValar1: We also could use researchers to help find alternate names
for all of our active gamers
Eonwe Valar: Tolkien LotR and Sil trivia going on there right now,btw :}
VardaValar1: Send the research in to Varda by email, and you also get
credit for helping with the Tolkien site.
VardaValar1: We need names from the books, or names translated into
English and back into other Tolkien languages
VardaValar1: Be sure to say which type of name it is.
VardaValar1: If it's from a book, please say which book, a big help.
VardaValar1: Don't use those "name translators" on the net, as they are
rarely reliable.
VardaValar1: At least don't use them for such an article. : )
VardaValar1: Any other membership news?
VardaValar1: Oh, Ulmo's
birthday was yesterday : )

LaurealasseHelka: ((I can't do this right now... Sorry guys...))
LaurealasseHelka has left the room.
VardaValar1: I'm behind in putting up Branwyn's stories and publicly
apologize to her.
VardaValar1: But they are also posted on Stories of Arda, not original
with us.
FinduilasV: Correct, Eonwe :-) your go
FinduilasV: /me appolizes
FinduilasV: /me appologizes
VardaValar1: His go at a bow? : ) Aye!
VardaValar1: Any further web news?
VardaValar1: Eonwe, you've been pretty busy, but have you had a chance
to play with the Games page any?
Eonwe Valar: Not really, beyond some dabbling.
VardaValar1: Dabbling, always fun : )
Eonwe Valar: I keep the Sortable Tables and the news fairly up-to-date,
as well as try to keep member info up-to-date, but not much more than
that.
VardaValar1: I've tried to do that before for a long time, and that's a
lot, Eonwe. Thank you for the work!

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Any gaming outside WoW and LotRO for this week? : )
ArPharazonV: ehrm, yes, you could say that
FinduilasV: bit wos

ArPharazonV: a small game based on
warcraft 3's tower defense, but online
ArPharazonV: I'll find the link...
VardaValar1: WoS (Well of Souls)
VardaValar1: Thanks Phar
ArPharazonV: http://doizece.neogen.ro/singleplayer/?game=198
VardaValar1: Always quick hitting those URLs. I need to learn that
speed! Thanks.
VardaValar1: Any other games any of you played online this week?
TwoSurlyDwarves: I started playing an online CCG called Astral Masters - I can find the URL
if anyone is interested
VardaValar1: Please do if not too much trouble
VardaValar1: We never know who will read the transcript. : )
VardaValar1: What is a CCG?
Shaggyjoe: ack im going to be late, have a great evening guys and gals.
Shaggyjoe has left the room.
VardaValar1: Namarie!
TwoSurlyDwarves: Card game, like Magic or other games
TwoSurlyDwarves: http://www.astralmasters.com/
VardaValar1: Thank you.
VardaValar1: Ok, you WoW
people. Your turn! Finduilas, do you have a WoW Argent Dawn report?
FinduilasV: aye
VardaValar1: Fire when ready. : )
FinduilasV: fire is a good word ;-)
FinduilasV: /me laughs
FladrifV: *hides* brr fire...
FinduilasV: Obviously Crisseagrim rthought Finduilasse needed a hot
bath .. a really hot one
ArPharazonV: no! no fire! my precious boats...
VardaValar1: Ulmo has a handy lake near you Fladrif, just duck your
head if you need to.
FinduilasV: Meaning .. he took me down to the Blackmount Deep core
FinduilasV: bypassing some bosses, of course not all ...
FinduilasV: and finally when we got past incendious , we swam right
throught the lava to where we had to go
FinduilasV: theres yer hot bath '-)
Eonwe Valar: Did that before :}
FinduilasV: So then we made a convenent trip to our eventual
destination , and we got my noble paladin attuned to the core
FinduilasV: Later that day, first Skjoeld (fladrifs priest) and me had
a go at deathclasp
FinduilasV: in Silithus, but had a bit bad luck with his connection so
we ventured to the caverns of time as far as we got
FladrifV: That priest pretended he was a hunter...
FinduilasV: Obviously some Identity crisis '-)
TwoSurlyDwarves: lol
FinduilasV: Said Hunter, Fladrif, and Finduilasse then had some fun
later in Hellfire .. battling with giants, demons ...
Srekal86 has entered the room.
FinduilasV: and i got a dozen times trampled .. ;-)
FladrifV: they saw us as lunch
VardaValar1: Aiya Hyarion : )
Srekal86: 'lo
VardaValar1: Ancalagon thinks you're lunch too. ;-)
FinduilasV: Aiya .. :-) hehe
Sarujil: unless its breakfast time
FinduilasV: then we went into the ruins of Something and foufght An..
the powerless
FinduilasV: of course i had to shrink .. too
FinduilasV: this concluded a very eventful evening and fun gaming day
.. and my report :-)
VardaValar1: Thank you, Finduilas!
FladrifV: I can ad some more if allowed for the later part of the
evening
VardaValar1: Fladrif, you had something to add?
VardaValar1: Now is good. :-)
FladrifV: sorry for my hastyness Varda
FinduilasV: /me laughs
FladrifV: after the brave findu went to sleep
VardaValar1: No problem!
FladrifV: I did a call upon our fair Arphara
ArPharazonV: that's me!
VardaValar1: hehe
FladrifV: no not you
FladrifV: :P
ArPharazonV: *looks around* we have another Pharazon?
FladrifV: I mean that bear you sailor
FladrifV: anyway there we continued for some orc slaying mix including
some dragons and deamons, the usual stuff
TwoSurlyDwarves: lol
ArPharazonV: Ramparts, and the Overlord at the pools of.. Aggonan or
something?
FladrifV: as you might all understand the night became dawn and this
ent had to leave for his place
FladrifV: aggonar
FladrifV: oh and at last I fixed my mount
ArPharazonV: knew there was an r in there somewhere, but couldn't place
it ;-)
VardaValar1: *Drops an "r" randomly*
FladrifV: argrorgnar
Srekal86 has left the room.
VardaValar1: Oops.
FinduilasV: /me makes puppy eyes for a group undertaking to get missing
holy water out of Stratholme
VardaValar1: Srekal crashed, I think. In mid side chat window.
Star of Phaet: why not go all the way with "argrorgrnrar"?
Eonwe Valar: That's the name in Murloc :}
VardaValar1: *Holy water springs up in a fount nearby*
FladrifV: hehe
FinduilasV: /me runs and tries to catch it
VardaValar1: We went there Friday too, Pools of Aggonar. : )
FinduilasV: ... missed ,
FladrifV: nice small deamons there
FladrifV: specially a bit higher up
VardaValar1: Fladrif, should I pass the ball to Lothar now? : )
FladrifV: *nod*
VardaValar1: Eonwe, could you give your WoW Lothar server report now?
VardaValar1: Thanks Fin and Flad!
Eonwe Valar: Certainly.
VardaValar1: Oops.
VardaValar1: Should I have asked Phar for more on Euro?
ArPharazonV: not really, that was all the valar-gaming I did
FladrifV: set sail...
VardaValar1: Thanks, Phar. : )
VardaValar1: All yours, Eonwe!
ArPharazonV: and all the non-valar progress I've made, I've already
mentioned before the actual meeting
ArPharazonV: so I have spoken already :-)
Eonwe Valar: This week we had two groups questing.
VardaValar1: That would be Friday he means
VardaValar1: We quested like crazy all week. :-)
Eonwe Valar: Copy/Pasting straight from my report on the Forum, where
the context is clear :}
Eonwe Valar: Taking on Draenor, we had Arathorn, Fangorn, and Varda
completing the quests Overlord, Heart of Darkness, Pools of Aggonar,
and Keep Thornfang Hill Clear.
ArPharazonV: Aggonar it is!
Eonwe Valar: Taking on the Draenei starting area, we had Elwing's
Draenei Mage, Eonwë's Draenei Paladin, and Draxcil's Draenei
Shaman completing most of the the Azuremyst Isle Quests.
Eonwe Valar: We got most of them done from the main quest hub on the
island and from the Alliance landing site.
Eonwe Valar: After the other two had called it a night, I pressed on to
help out the Furbolgs, and so I could get to 12 and learn Redemption.
ArPharazonV: great! so now you can resurrect the others :-)
Eonwe Valar: We slew nagas for invading, gathered herbs for healing,
retrieved hides for clothing, recovered artifacts for study, hid like
trees for spying, killed gnomes for traitoring,...
Eonwe Valar: and went to Exodar for crafting.
Eonwe Valar: I think that about covers it :}
VardaValar1: Thank you, Eonwe : )
VardaValar1: Fangorn and Elwing are gaming right now and say hi!
ArPharazonV: *waves*
Eonwe Valar: Heya to them
VardaValar1: Did you collect the list of quests Arathorn, Fangorn, and
I covered in the Outlands Friday?
VardaValar1: ah yes
VardaValar1: There at the top :-)
VardaValar1: Thank you : )
VardaValar1: Uldaman
server report
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: We are considering Wednesday as a special gaming night for
us, as Lothar does on Friday
VardaValar1: We have most of our blood elves invited that we know of,
but not quite all
VardaValar1: They will probably be in tonight. : )
VardaValar1: Or at least one
VardaValar1: If any of you are interested in Horde Uldaman, now is your
chance to vote for a particular day, night, time
VardaValar1: Eonwe, don't guess you'd have another time to come in?
VardaValar1: Arwen, how about you?
Eonwe Valar: Any time besides Friday is sketchy anyway, so go with the
majority.
Eonwe Valar: Monday and Wednesday are my best chances if at all.
VardaValar1: So far, two votes for Wednesday and no firm days from any
others. A majority of two.
TwoSurlyDwarves: I'm good for any evening other than Saturdays
VardaValar1: Once in a while is good : )
VardaValar1: Ah cool!
VardaValar1: Be sure to type /join Valar so we can find you. : )
VardaValar1: Our names tend to be somewhat off our usual beat
VardaValar1: They are our names but may have a flavor
VardaValar1: Elwing's StarSpray with tusks became ThtarThpray for
instance.
TwoSurlyDwarves: Like chocolate? mmm
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Others are more easily recognizable.
VardaValar1: Ok, so far Wednesday seems to have it. : )
VardaValar1: Uldaman is also interested to know what crafts any of you
might be interested in pursuing.
VardaValar1: However, Uldaman is a very casual group at this time, as
we are mostly in Lothar or the game which might be allowed to be
mentioned.
VardaValar1: Lothar also is needing to know which crafts members are
especially keen on doing.
Eonwe Valar: The LotRO
NDA is lifted.
Eonwe Valar: So it is mentionable.
Srekal86 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: It's no longer an unmentionable game then : )
Eonwe Valar: Says so on the site, and mentioned it at some point in the
game news while I was downloading the 6000 files to make it run.
Eonwe Valar: There, I outed myself first :}
VardaValar1: Ok, my main on LotRO is Fainan for your friend list. :-)
VardaValar1: I have four others too. ;-)
Eonwe Valar: I am Auros, but I'm sure you saw that coming :}
VardaValar1: Ancalagon is Anc and is mainly playing Ancwyn
VardaValar1: Gilraen just got her download working
VardaValar1: Melkor and Orome came over from DAoC to LotRO
VardaValar1: Melkor is on vacation now until about mid-April
VardaValar1: We often have more members online at once than we do in WoW
VardaValar1: and it's a natural place for a Tolkien fan club : )
Eonwe Valar: There's an open Stress Test for LotRO coming Feb 23rd for
those intreested.
VardaValar1: Stress tests are rough times, and we say "we" win if we
can crash the server. ;-)
VardaValar1: Our main server is currently Meneldor,
VardaValar1: with an alternate branch on Brandywine if we crash
Meneldor or it's being upgraded
VardaValar1: I have a Fainan character on both
VardaValar1: We also have a Valar Guild thread on both the main LotRO
board and the beta board.
VardaValar1: Type into Search the words Valar Guild
VardaValar1: Pre-orders make you a founding member and cheaper
VardaValar1: Let's you into Open Beta too
Eonwe Valar: Dracxil and I have our pre-orders :}
VardaValar1: Any questions?
VardaValar1: Go Eonwe and Dracxil!
Eonwe Valar: The Pre-order gets you into the Open Beta before people
who haven't pre-ordered.
VardaValar1: Gwaihir is expected to be joining us now that Gilraen has
made it in. : )
Eonwe Valar: Also gets you 2 in-game items, and the chance to keep your
character into retail.
VardaValar1: Ok, moving on, before I run up and shove someone off the
comp so I can play LotRO...
TwoSurlyDwarves: lol
VardaValar1: Oh, Eonwe, mention that one in chat too. : )
Eonwe Valar: Just a fun little piece of info I thought everyone might
enjoy.
Eonwe Valar: On March 18th,....
Eonwe Valar: Our LotRO RP will be 3 years old!
Eonwe Valar: Ok, maybe not... :}
ArPharazonV: woohoo!
ArPharazonV: and look how far we've gotten!
Eonwe Valar: Several hundred miles :}
VardaValar1: Oh, reminds me. Sam said he is trying to get a comp
together so he can join us in LotRO. : )
ArPharazonV: not that I'm one to talk, I still have to write something
for it...
ArPharazonV: cool!
VardaValar1: And now on a big U-turn. : )
VardaValar1: Shall we move on to Tolkien Chat now? : )
VardaValar1: Anything else we need to discuss first?
VardaValar1: Pick your crafters on Lothar and Uldaman. ;-)
top
VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: We are always said to be talking about trivia. This time,
let's pick out what the Big Moments are - the non-trivia.
VardaValar1: The turning points for the main plot and for the main
character's lives.
ArPharazonV: I'll start off with the destruction of the Ring!
VardaValar1: That is one for sure!
VardaValar1: Frodo's decision within himself to take the Ring to Mt.
Doom.
ArPharazonV: also, a bit more close to home... the sinking of Numenor
and the changing of the world
VardaValar1: Gollum's decision to leave his cave and hunt the Ring.
VardaValar1: Hello?
ArPharazonV: Pippin.. at least I think it was pippin... throwing a
stone in a well in Moria
ArPharazonV: waking up the Orcs :-)
VardaValar1: Aye, that was Pippin and his stone.
TwoSurlyDwarves: Frodo at the Ford
VardaValar1: Aye, Beorn!
TwoSurlyDwarves: that was when he "grew up" and started doing things on
his own
Eonwe Valar: Well, there was still the incident with the Palantir.
Sarujil: Ancalagon eating Earendil! well thats one version of the
story...
VardaValar1: Frodo defied the Ringwraiths and they came at him, with a
bit of push from Glorfindel and Aragorn, and wiped them out in the
river.
VardaValar1: That's your version, Anc! ;-)
Eonwe Valar: unless you meant Frodo, not Pippin.
VardaValar1: Aragorn's wresting the Palantir of Orthanc from Sauron.
Sarujil: the downfall of saruman is probably important
VardaValar1: Reckon? ;-)
ArPharazonV: Merry and Pippin running into Treebeard.. small pebbles
causing an avalanche
VardaValar1: Sauron's smoky spirit being blown away in a wind from the
West.
Sarujil: ancalagon coming out of nowhere and eating bard before he
could slay smaug...
TwoSurlyDwarves: lol
TwoSurlyDwarves: Was that in the original version?
VardaValar1: The slightly revised history of Middle-earth as told by
Ancalagon.
ArPharazonV: he wish...
Sarujil: gee i keep referencing my bizzaro version of lotr for some
reason
VardaValar1: Because it's you!
ArPharazonV: like the time I defied Sauron's advice, locked him up in a
dungeon and made piece with the Elves and Valar...
ArPharazonV: all wishful thinking
VardaValar1: Gandalf's learning the identity of Frodo's Ring.
VardaValar1: pieces?
VardaValar1: That would have been a good move, peace, Anc. : )
ArPharazonV: *peace, yeah
ArPharazonV: (hides in shame)
VardaValar1: Come back out here! It was a good joke. : )
VardaValar1: Good scary dragon.
VardaValar1: I think we're pretty much alone here. Suppose we should
call it a night?
VardaValar1: I expected a lot of response on this one, actually.
ArPharazonV: well there's so much of them!
Sarujil: ok ok umm ... how bout ... well dang ancalagon really didnt do
much, and hes the only one that matters...
ArPharazonV: and what separates the big moments from the really big
moments?
FinduilasV: ye forgeot Frodo in the gbarrow ..]
VardaValar1: Turning points in the story are big moments.
TwoSurlyDwarves: Or the time the One Ring was not found by Smeagol, but
instead by the ancestors of Ghan-buri-ghan, who eventually became the
Not-So-Dark-Lord?
Sarujil: sam in the tower of cirith ungol?
VardaValar1: Aye, Anc
TwoSurlyDwarves: Most definitely
ArPharazonV: well, Anc, a big moment was when Earendil casts you out of
the sky to crush the peaks of Thangorodrim!
TwoSurlyDwarves: When he turned down the ring's offer.
Sarujil: yeah see you needed my great weight to bust that place up :-)
VardaValar1: Aragorn deciding to take his tiny force to the Black Gate
as a diversion for Frodo.
ArPharazonV: incredible... I can spell Thangorodrim but I don't get
peace right...
TwoSurlyDwarves: lol
VardaValar1: You're being careful with the tougher words. : )
Sarujil: i think boromir trying to take the ring was one of the most
crucial turning points
VardaValar1: Aye, it was.
TwoSurlyDwarves: The Ring leaving Gollum
VardaValar1: Good one, Beorn
Sarujil: the ring leaving anyone was always a big deal
ArPharazonV: Isildur cutting off the Ring with what remained of Narsil?
VardaValar1: The Ring's movements were always turning points.
ArPharazonV: true, true
VardaValar1: and keeping it.
Sarujil: heck the whole last alliance of elves and men
TwoSurlyDwarves: But it wasn't the last alliance of elves and men,
everyone knows there were elves at Helm's Deep! :P *ducks*
Sarujil: well there was elf at helm's deep anyway :-)
VardaValar1: All the battles in the north while the Ring battle was
happening, so that something existed when the combatants returned.
VardaValar1: Legolas only counts as one. : )
TwoSurlyDwarves: Yes, Celeborn and Thranduil's meeting
VardaValar1: Aye, the destruction of Dol Guldur in that.
Sarujil: after the battle, when the dunedain had come, didnt the party
go to helm's deep for a while? so technically, there were three elves
at helm's deep in one point in time
Sarujil: just not at the actual battle :-)
TwoSurlyDwarves: Eomer deciding to hunt the orcs was a big one, if you
think about it.
VardaValar1: Elladan and Elrohir are part elf.
ArPharazonV: they did, yeah, and it was there that Aragorn wrestled
over the Palantir, no?
VardaValar1: Aye, Beorn
TwoSurlyDwarves: Between the two of them, they only count as one elf,
though.
VardaValar1: On the way
VardaValar1: hehe
Sarujil: still plural :-)
TwoSurlyDwarves: Or maybe one and a half, if want to be picky.
ArPharazonV: then there were 2 elves at Helm's Deep, and even at the
same time!
VardaValar1: But no, the rangers did not go to Helm's Deep did they?
VardaValar1: They took the Paths of the Dead
TwoSurlyDwarves: hrm
TwoSurlyDwarves: Let me look
Sarujil: everyone went to helms deep first. thats where aragorn wrested
the palantir from suaron
VardaValar1: So we still only have one elf at Helm's Deep.
Sarujil: sauron scuse me
VardaValar1: No he didn't
ArPharazonV: Aragorn did go to Helm's Deep, to wrestle with Sauron over
the palantir, I think, at least the tower there...
VardaValar1: Not at Helm's Deep
ArPharazonV: and I would assume the Elves went with him... you sure?
VardaValar1: making me dig up the quote, heh.
TwoSurlyDwarves: It mentions them riding "to the hornburg"
VardaValar1: Oh, I'm only sure if I'm actually reading it.
Sarujil: i have it!
VardaValar1: Helm's
VardaValar1: Deep then
TwoSurlyDwarves: "The night was young and the East grey when they rode
up at last from Deeping Coomb and came back to the Hornburg"
VardaValar1: they go to Isengard
TwoSurlyDwarves: Because Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli take a walk on
Helm's Dike after the Rangers show up.
Sarujil: "A struggle somewhat grimmer for my part than the battle of
the Hornburg," answered Aragorn, "I have looked in the stone of
Orthanc."
TwoSurlyDwarves: No -Merry, not Aragorn
Sarujil: oh uh right before that it says, "Together they went back into
the Burg..."
VardaValar1: Chapter "Helm's Deep", then they go to Isengard.
TwoSurlyDwarves: So there were two and a half elves at Helm's Deep at
one point - lol
FinduilasV: two and a half elves ..
Sarujil: heh all that research to determine that :-)
FinduilasV: tsk
Sarujil: who said we werent doing trivia? :-)
Sarujil: hehe sorry i got us off track
TwoSurlyDwarves: I wasn't helping much either
Sarujil: well i like looking up stuff to prove im not a total space
case when it comes to lotr :-)
Sarujil: so uh ... speaking of ghan buri ghan, him meeting the rohirrim
and leading them around sauron's waiting force was important...
VardaValar1: Ch. 7 Helm's Deep is the battle. Ch 10 is when they get
the palantir from Grima's throwing it, Ch 11 Pippin takes the palantir
from Gandalf, and Gandalf gets it back and gives it to its owner,
Aragorn.
Sarujil: aragorn looks in the stone in chapter 2 of rotk
Sarujil: they return from orthanc to helm's deep earlier in the
chapter, meeting halbarad et al on the way
VardaValar1: Aye, then we move from TT to RotK
VardaValar1: This is verrrry after the Battle of Helm's Deep by now
ArPharazonV: and later in the chapter the entire group passes through
the Paths of the Dead!
VardaValar1: So only Legolas was at the battle.
ArPharazonV: did he bring the Palantir with him on that trip?
Sarujil: ya know... is it mentioned?
ArPharazonV: wouldn't it have burdened him down at the battle for Minas
Tirith?
ArPharazonV: big shiny ball in your pocket bouncing about... doesn't
seem very comfortable
Sarujil: how big is the palantir anyway? marble? magic 8-ball? bowling?
VardaValar1: He's a seven-footer, and even if he carried it, probably
no major problem.
TwoSurlyDwarves: Pippin had to use both hands
TwoSurlyDwarves: And didn't Denethor use two hands?
Eonwe Valar: Big enough to need a table, if memory serves.
FinduilasV: but he definitely must have had the stone carrying with him
FinduilasV: aye, eonwe
Sarujil: maybe he kept it in a saddlebag or something
Star of Phaet: even a bowling ball, without the holes you'd probably
need two hands. it'd depend on weight, as well as size.
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Star of Phaet: something small but very heavy might need two hands to
hold
TwoSurlyDwarves: It was small enough for Gandalf to hold on to it in
his sleep.
TwoSurlyDwarves: And small enough to be wrapped in a cloak, while the
cloak was being worn
FinduilasV: it served him as kind of pillow , eh?
FinduilasV: very uncomfortable
Sarujil: it wouldnt be very comfortable to use a bowling ball as a
pillow
ArPharazonV: it doesn't appear to be very soft if it is to serve as a
pillow...
TwoSurlyDwarves: "between his right side and his bent arm"
FinduilasV: aye true
FinduilasV: my false
FinduilasV: still a bit of a strange cuddly toy ... some fete of Pippin
to steal it and replace it with the stone
Star of Phaet has left the room.
Sarujil: i guess, eventually all things tolkien boil down to trivia :-)
Star of Phaet has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Only if let it : )
VardaValar1: Pharazon says he's not in the room, although AIM still
shows him there to me.
Sarujil: eowyn (and merry) defeating the witch king was a useful moment
FinduilasV: hehe, true true .. , ah lovely people that you are .. as i
said before onehundred and eleven years is too short a time to be
amongst you .. and i do not know half as you as good as you deserve
FinduilasV: but i have to say .. this is the end
FinduilasV: I leave now ..
FinduilasV: have to unfortunately ;-)
Sarujil: bilbo's speech as pivotal moment?
ArPharazonV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Thanks for being with us, Finduilas :-)
FladrifV has left the room.
ArPharazonV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: allright, rebooting AIM helped
FinduilasV: I have the early shift tomorrow still without car till
tuesday
ArPharazonV: did I miss much?
Eonwe Valar: Take care Finduilas
ArPharazonV: Namarie Finduilas!
FinduilasV: you too :-) have fun
FinduilasV: Namarie
VardaValar1: FinduilasV: still a bit of a strange cuddly toy ... some
fete of Pippin to steal it and replace it with the stone
TwoSurlyDwarves: /wave
VardaValar1: Sarujil: i guess, eventually all things tolkien boil down
to trivia :-)
FinduilasV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Sarujil: eowyn (and merry) defeating the witch king was a
useful moment
VardaValar1: Those are the highlights you missed. : )
Sarujil: Sarujil: Ancalagon being born was very important!
ArPharazonV: allright :-)
ArPharazonV: Earendil and his journey are very important, especially
standing before the Valar
TwoSurlyDwarves: Feanor's Oath
Sarujil: we all say that the destruction and the movements of the ring
were important, but what about its creation?
ArPharazonV: the movements of the ring were important, but how about
the movements of the Silmaril?
ArPharazonV: especially the one Beren took
VardaValar1: I started out trying to keep it to LotR, but aye, if we
move to the other books, that's all important.
ArPharazonV: *Silmarils or Silmarilli, whatever you prefer
Eonwe Valar: Silmarilli. I demand you say it right! :}
Eonwe Valar: (kidding :})
VardaValar1: I'll take them and pass them to Yavanna. : )
Sarujil: i say the Silmaril and the other two of the same
Sarujil: i have a way of halting conversation...
ArPharazonV: well, it's in your nature, as a dragon
VardaValar1: It's your blotting out of the sky as you fly over, and
roof removal when you land?
ArPharazonV: because your conversations usually end up with you eating
your conversation-partner!
VardaValar1: He chats and then needs a snack.
Sarujil: the nature of a dragonism requires a little more understanding
on the part of his victi-- err i mean contemporaries .. than other
beings
twosurlydwarves has left the room.

After-meeting:
ArPharazonV: there he goes again?
VardaValar1: Beorn is trying to get rid of a weird error
ArPharazonV: hmm
VardaValar1: I wonder if our having so many versions of AIM is a problem
twosurlydwarves has left the room.
Sarujil: i refuse to upgrade every time i sign on! hehe thats a bit
much imho
VardaValar1: hehe
TwoSurlyDwarves has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Welcome back : )
TwoSurlyDwarves: testing testing
TwoSurlyDwarves: There we go
TwoSurlyDwarves: My typing wasnt showing up
ArPharazonV: it says you left the room twice :-)
TwoSurlyDwarves: weird
Arwen V1 has left the room.
TwoSurlyDwarves: Well, that's some bad timing - I need to take off,
just as I logged back in
TwoSurlyDwarves: Bye guys
VardaValar1: Bye!
twosurlydwarves has left the room.
VardaValar1: I think we are pretty well done. :-) Let's let you all
sleep or go play!
VardaValar1: AIM has been rough tonight!
ArPharazonV: I'm busy reading the archive of a webcomic with about 1500
installments... I do 100 a day, so I need 32 more before I can go play
WoW again ;-)
VardaValar1: Bilbo just came home from work and says hi!
VardaValar1: Phar, URL? : )
Sarujil: hi bilbo!
ArPharazonV: http://www.irregularwebcomic.net/
VardaValar1: He usually plays as Valtocolindo (an elvish version of his
name)
VardaValar1: Thanks
ArPharazonV: a comic made by pictures taken of lego, with various
themes/storylines stretching on indefinitely... I find it pretty funny
:-)
VardaValar1: Reminds me, we could use a lot more of you guys adding to
the humor page
VardaValar1: Only thing is, you need to email the humor to me now
instead of Menel who is having some problems
Sarujil: we can keep a running tally of all of anc's retelling of the
lotr story
VardaValar1: hehe!
ArPharazonV: there are a few lotr-related jokes throughout the comic,
even
ArPharazonV: http://www.irregularwebcomic.net/16.html
for example
VardaValar1: LotR is all through the culture now. :-)
VardaValar1: Surely we can do at least that good for our humor page.
ArPharazonV: I thought this one to be pretty clever, actually, because
it's a song by Sting, and it seems appropriate for when there are
enemies nearby :-)
Sarujil: thats a pretty cool comic. i wish i had thought of it
VardaValar1: Now you have the idea of it, you can come up with some for
us. ;-)
ArPharazonV: also for you "fans" of the lotr-movies, in the theme
"Shakespeare", which features what would Shakespeare do if he lived 400
years later (our time),
ArPharazonV: he also ends up making the novelisation of the movies,
with some touches of his own, which makes for some funny Lotr-related
jokes
ArPharazonV: but enough spoilers from me!
VardaValar1: Thanks. : )
VardaValar1: I may have forgotten to use this gavel. It has a cobweb.
VardaValar1: *gavels*
VardaValar1: There we go. All better now.
VardaValar1: The comics aren't exactly in order. The one where they
need to rescue the dwarf is mixed with Harry Potter and Hades jokes.
ArPharazonV: the comics are in order for every theme, but the themes
aren't exactly separated
ArPharazonV: and often feature crossovers too
VardaValar1: The dwarf is Dwalin : )
ArPharazonV: that's why in the menu below you can click on buttons to
continue to the next episode of a particular theme that's in that comic
VardaValar1: ah thanks :-)
ArPharazonV: and yes, while the themes are in themselves in reasonably
good order, they often vary in time with other themes, and are placed
around each other... I don't think it happens very often that one theme
is featured two days in a row
VardaValar1: No problem. I hit Fantasy theme and next, next, next. : )
VardaValar1: Lots of Tolkien references. : )
ArPharazonV: yup
ArPharazonV: I went through themes with that button too, but I figured
I'd best read day by day, because it
ArPharazonV: is easier to understand cross-overs that way, and I don't
want to "exhaust" any theme too quickly, this way I feel I can enjoy
them longer :-)
VardaValar1: Sounds good. : )
ArPharazonV: until I catch finally catch up in a week or so, of course
;-)
VardaValar1: rofl! "pointless elvish poetry digression"
VardaValar1: If Tolkien can get away with it...
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: I'm being called away, might get to play WoW
ArPharazonV: I also remember something about "Yay, trees"... but I
can't remember where
VardaValar1: That
VardaValar1: 's it
VardaValar1: The translation
ArPharazonV: right :-)
ArPharazonV: well, have fun in WoW!
VardaValar1: Didn't want to do a spoiler
ArPharazonV: just reached 900 in the archives, so I'll call it a day ;-)
VardaValar1: http://www.irregularwebcomic.net/comic.ph
p?current=346&theme=2&dir=next
ArPharazonV: ah, right :-)
VardaValar1: I had fun with some of the other themes too, but was
trying to hit the fantasy theme as I'm in a Tolkien mood at the moment
VardaValar1: I am not always, by the way. ;-)
VardaValar1: I try to keep on track in here at least
VardaValar1: See you around!
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
VardaValar1: Namarie!
VardaValar1 has left the room.
Sarujil has left the room.
