VardaValar1: Orome
is in Brasil for about 9 days for work, but said hi
on the Forum if you'd like to reply to him there.
VardaValar1: Barahir-V

guild with his latest accomplishments, up on the News as a link.
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/NewsArchives/extras/2006JuneBarahirftw.htm
VardaValar1: Finduilas

DemonicHorde69 has left the room.
BhonTuath: weel I am newly arrived in the Valar Gruild as you know and

BhonTuath: I have read Tolkien for many years and started online gaming
recently
BhonTuath: What sort of things would you like to know?
Gamatzgamatz: welcommen :-D !!
VardaValar1: What made you interested in joining the Valar Guild?
VardaValar1: although you sort of answered that already. ; )
BhonTuath: Hmm I saw the link in a links page some where and the name

VardaValar1: Glad to have a kindred spirit
BhonTuath: Glad to have found u too

VardaValar1: Web
Report:
VardaValar1: The happiest news in my corner is that the main webworking
computer is operational again.
VardaValar1: New items for the Tolkien
site this week:
VardaValar1: Stories:
VardaValar1: "Errand
of Fate" by Finduilas : )
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/fiction/stories/FinduilasTV/ErrandofFate.htm
VardaValar1: Would you like to tell us a little about what got you
started writing this story?
BhonTuath: Sure - as you know the sword of Isildur itself plays an
important part in LotR
BhonTuath: but nothing is known about Ohtar who brought the shards of
Narsil
BhonTuath: I wondered what he would think and do
BhonTuath: while he took the shards
VardaValar1: Thank you. Good thinking.
VardaValar1: We have another story up this week:
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: "Black
Breath" by Cassia-TV and Siobhan-TV
VardaValar1: Aiya Menelvagor :-)
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/fiction/authorsT/CassiaSiobhan/stories/BlackBreath/BB1.htm
Gamatzgamatz: hey menelvagor
Menelvagor Valar: small turnout tonight..
VardaValar1: 11 chapters
VardaValar1: Aye, surprised me too.
STEvilaim: lucky you got me.. someone phoned and thats the only reason
i was awake ;-)
VardaValar1: We are lucky. : )
LouieKisKowsKi has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Elros : )
BhonTuath: what are ye complaining they are coming hehe
VardaValar1: Poetry
had two additions this week:
LouieKisKowsKi: aiya, sorry I cannot stay long
BhonTuath: aiya Elros , I am Fanduilas and aiya Menel
VardaValar1: No problem, glad you could drop by : )
VardaValar1: Under Poetry, both were written by new member Merewen-TV
VardaValar1: "The
Last to Dance"
VardaValar1: about Eowyn
VardaValar1: and
VardaValar1: "An
End" about Frodo.
VardaValar1: Pardon, several windows
VardaValar1: These are Merewen's membership entries for Tolkien-only
VardaValar1: All the new folk would really like some feedback for their
new entries, even a thank you, as they tend to be a little nervous
about their reception.
VardaValar1: Feel free to email them or talk here : )
BhonTuath: hehe I was very nervous
BhonTuath: as it is my first story as such in Middle Earth or in
general for a long time
LouieKisKowsKi: hey i heart you guys, i have to go, be well and check
my site if you like, greetngs to all, long weekend i have to got o work
and act like a civillian
VardaValar1: Take care
LouieKisKowsKi: namarie
LouieKisKowsKi has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Take care
VardaValar1: Elros' website has grown a lot, he
says, and here's his
link to his personal page:
VardaValar1: http://www.louiekiskowski.com/
VardaValar1: Ok, onwards
VardaValar1: New Art
for this week:
VardaValar1: Turgon has been
his busy self : )
VardaValar1: He put up "Manwe's
Halls" and
VardaValar1: "Earendil's
Ship"
VardaValar1: with two more in the collection that haven't yet been
loaded into his Cave.
VardaValar1: They'll be on the News when they go up
VardaValar1: We lost Menelvagor?
VardaValar1: no, there he is : )
VardaValar1: Menel, do you have any Web news?
Menelvagor Valar: not after last weeks last'minute updates :-)
VardaValar1: Eonwe stepped out for a minute, should be back shortly.
He's been working on a php program to help make thumbnails for the art
page.
VardaValar1: Ahh, thanks
Menelvagor
Valar: I do have some membership news though :-)
VardaValar1: I am behind with putting up the Lothar WoW member updates
VardaValar1: Go ahead, Menel.
Menelvagor Valar: well, at the start of the week, I seem to have
swallowed a whole bunch of butterflies.
Menelvagor Valar: and that's put me in a really good mood.
VardaValar1: Not Black Emperors, I trust?
Menelvagor Valar: and apparently, I wasn't the only one hit with a
butterfly attack :-)
Menelvagor Valar: nope, no Black Emperors.
Menelvagor Valar: just the ones that frollick about in your tummy :-)
Menelvagor Valar: and, I am seriously considering (and actually
looking) to move to Rotterdam :-)
VardaValar1: Is that pretty far?
Menelvagor Valar: just about 200 miles southwest.
Menelvagor Valar: a lot nearer to Fladrif and Pharzie from where I am
now.
VardaValar1: How long from now do you think it might be before that
happens?
VardaValar1: Cool : )
ArPharazonV: a lot nearer? you'll pass us straight by if you go that
way :-)
ArPharazonV: besides, Flad is still in Sweden ;-)
BhonTuath: we might pass you in autumn then - Menel, when we take the
ferry across
Menelvagor Valar: with a little luck, and all goes well, a month or two.
Menelvagor Valar: why don't you drop by then?
ArPharazonV: tell us when, we might make it a guild-gathering :-)
VardaValar1: Very cool : )
BhonTuath: Lets see when the time is nearer, but no reason why not "}
BhonTuath: :-)
VardaValar1: Why should Texas have all the fun? : )
Menelvagor Valar: Will do :-)
Menelvagor Valar: but it's still a whole lot of planning, and not much
reality yet.
Menelvagor Valar: depends on a good deal.
VardaValar1: Job or school taking you there?
VardaValar1: Probably Pharazon's sparkling personality!
ArPharazonV: or luuuv?
Menelvagor Valar: luuuv :P
Menelvagor Valar: and a couple other reasons.
VardaValar1: Don't starve. : )
Menelvagor Valar: but I can probably transfer schools :-)
Menelvagor Valar: that's one of the things that have to go just right.
VardaValar1: Do some heavy duty planning and it can happen if you're
lucky. : )
Menelvagor Valar: not much time for planning in the coming weeks.
Menelvagor Valar: 3 test weeks coming up.
VardaValar1: May your mind be sharp!
VardaValar1: Any further Web News, now that Eonwe is back?
VardaValar1: He says no, so on to the next.
top
VardaValar1: Gaming News:
VardaValar1: Has anyone played anything besides World of WarCraft?
VardaValar1: Finduilas reports she was on Eve Online
ArPharazonV: a bit of Well of Souls, but nobody of you
online, unless I
was on the wrong server
STEvilaim: freelancer
sometimes, limited to what my laptop can play
really.. and dial-up.
VardaValar1: Aerienell was the server.
VardaValar1: Scatha, maybe you could handle Well of Souls on that?
ArPharazonV: and I also continued playing through Escape from Monkey
Island, but as that's a single-player adventure, it won't be of
much
interest here
ArPharazonV: aye, I was on that server, but nobody online ;-)
VardaValar1: I was on WoW, sorry. : )
Gamatzgamatz: ive been playing the frozen throne a bit, since im sadly
quitting WoW
ArPharazonV: thought so ;-)
BhonTuath: I was on for the first three days , quite a few times
VardaValar1: Money problem? usual thing
Gamatzgamatz: lol nope, it was consuming my life
STEvilaim: i'll have to look into well of souls.. seems there was a
reason i passed it up though..
Gamatzgamatz: once i quit like a whole new world opened up lol :-P
VardaValar1: ahh, then you need to pick some times, like every other
day, the way Elwing handles it. : )
Gamatzgamatz: now im just prepping myself for Lotro
BhonTuath: but Iprobably the wrong time for ye, then I got somewhat
disttracted .. hhehe
Gamatzgamatz: yea i should
VardaValar1: That could be November unless you luck out on the beta.
Gamatzgamatz: i WISH we all can get into beta
Gamatzgamatz: everybody in this guild
VardaValar1: That would be great : )
ArPharazonV: our WoW-guild has several prominent players leaving too...
it's a shame
VardaValar1: We are shooting for it by putting the guild name in the
beta application
VardaValar1: They could pick us by guild.
Gamatzgamatz: nicee, cuz when i filled it out, i followed the
instructions you emailed us
VardaValar1: yay! We do have a shot. : )
Gamatzgamatz: by the way speaking of the application, i never did that
test where you copy and paste what you ahve in your system, does that
downgrade the shot I have getting into the beta?
VardaValar1: I don't know if it will help, but everybody also say hi on
the LotRO forum's Valar Guild thread. : )
Gamatzgamatz: lol will do
VardaValar1: I hope not, because I never figured that one out. : )
VardaValar1: Did anyone else figure out how to do that?
Eonwe Valar: If it's not required for the application, I wouldn't worry
about it. At least I didn't.
VardaValar1: It's not required.
Eonwe Valar: the diaxlog thing?
BhonTuath: Where have you got the Vala Guild thread on Shadows of
Angmar?
VardaValar1: the last part with the text
Eonwe Valar: Dxdiag rather?
VardaValar1: type into the Search in the Kinships, Valar Guild
VardaValar1: It should show up
VardaValar1: If you see our names in there, that helps you add them to
your forum buddy list. : )
VardaValar1: And you can use their names to find their posts.
BhonTuath: ah got it
BhonTuath: ok
VardaValar1: Yay : )
VardaValar1: Might toss an URL in here : )
BhonTuath: http://lotro.turbine.com/forums/showthread.
php?t=657&highlight=Valar+Guild
VardaValar1: We also have a LotRO web
page put up by Elatan with handy
links and info on it.
VardaValar1: Thank you. : )
BhonTuath: always glad to be of service :-)
VardaValar1: There we go. Now you can all jump in and say hi. : )
Gamatzgamatz: just bumped :-D
VardaValar1: hehe - thanks! : )
VardaValar1: Added you to my buddy list : )
BhonTuath: oki hehe
BhonTuath: just wondering how i get the actual pic in the signature and
not only the link ..
VardaValar1: Menel, you might be able to answer that?
TH0R0NGIL has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Finrod-V aka Thorongil : )
Menelvagor Valar: errr..
Menelvagor Valar: what was the question?
VardaValar1: Or someone else : )
Menelvagor Valar: pciture in sig on the MB?
Menelvagor Valar: picture*
VardaValar1: No, on LotRO Forum
VardaValar1: Might be the same as for our Forum aka MB
Menelvagor Valar: sorry, but I wouldn't know, never worked with pics in
sigs.
VardaValar1: Fanduil, I see your pic on LotRO
Menelvagor Valar: but, it might be much like standard webwork.
Eonwe Valar: try using the following:
Eonwe Valar: <img src="">
Menelvagor Valar: ah, that's it.
VardaValar1: Tuor, Elatan and Merry got their Avatars up too. Maybe
View Source?
Eonwe Valar: put your image address in the quotes.
Eonwe Valar: She's referring to an image in her signature.
VardaValar1: Finduilos, I see your avatar up, just had a dreadful typo.
:-)
VardaValar1: ah, ok
Eonwe Valar: separate from the avatar.
BhonTuath: yeah but I mean in the signature
Eonwe Valar: Look above for my suggestion.
VardaValar1: Your banner pic.
Eonwe Valar: if they didn't disable images in signatures, then <img
src=""> should work.
Eonwe Valar: make sure it's small enough to not take up too much
loading time as well. They likely limited images to a certain pixel
size.
VardaValar1: Good luck with that.
VardaValar1: Any other non-WoW gaming mentions? DAoC, anything in
Battlenet?
Gamatzgamatz: lol there is a guild on battlenet called vengeance of
valar, just wanted to point that out
Gamatzgamatz: :-P
VardaValar1: Thanks : )
Gamatzgamatz: lol
VardaValar1: Ok, on to WoW reports.
VardaValar1: ArPharazon,
go ahead. : )
ArPharazonV: allrighty
ArPharazonV: haven't seen any valar-peoples online this week, which is
a darn shame, but with the few members we have there, it's not too
surprising
STEvilaim: /me blames work
ArPharazonV: that's quite possible :-)
Eonwe Valar: That's what happens when you recruit mature, responsible
gamers. They have priorities higher than a game sometimes :}
ArPharazonV: our guild/raidgroup still tries to take down Huhuran,
getting pretty close, improving our tactics, but she's quite a
roadblock, and even Blizzard says it's a badly designed fight :-)
ArPharazonV: I got revered with the Timbermaw this week, and got my
final tribal leatherworking pattern
ArPharazonV: I was considering trying to get exalted with Argent Dawn,
but since it's pretty pointless to try to get 15000 reputation before
the patch, I decided to abandon grinding for a while and focus on some
alts
ArPharazonV: got both my mage and hunter from lvl 1 to 6 this week and
my warrior to 5
ArPharazonV: concerning our raidloot it was really my week... won 5
items, including a catring, a bearhelm and shoulders, and a few pairs
of boots
ArPharazonV: my feral druid is quite happy ;-)
ArPharazonV: and that concludes my report for this week
VardaValar1: Thank you, Pharazon : )
VardaValar1: Eonwe, would you like to give your Lothar WoW report
now?
Eonwe Valar: Sure.
Eonwe Valar: This week's questing took Varda, Fangorn, Eonwë,
Fundin, Arwen, and Gimli into Zul Farrak. Our Goals: Gahz'rilla,
Nekrum's Medallion, and the Divino-matic Rod.
Eonwe Valar: First, it was Varda, Fangorn, Eonwë, and Fundin. We
fought our way to Gahz'rilla then defeated the beast.
Eonwe Valar: We were then joined by Arwen. Shortly after that, Fundin
had to go, and so Gimli was brought in.
Eonwe Valar: Since Gimli needed Gahz'rilla, and respawns were already
popping up, we decided to reset the instance and take a break for
selling and repairs.
Eonwe Valar: Gimli was also experiencing some internet problems during
this time, so he had to log out. Luckily, he was back about the time we
were ready to go back in :}
Eonwe Valar: That done, we went back in and dealt once again with
Gahz'rilla.
Eonwe Valar: Bringing him down a second time, we turned our attention
to Captain Bly.
Eonwe Valar: Freeing him and his group from their cages, we fought off
waves of trolls together, culminating in a faceoff between Nekrum and
the Priest that kept him alive.
Eonwe Valar: After we'd done this, Captain Bly turned on us, forcing us
to take him down.
Eonwe Valar: We did however reclaim the Divino-matic Rod, thus
completing the last quest my Paladin had for Zul-Farrak,... until he
stumbles on another that he somehow missed :}
Eonwe Valar: That does it for my WoW Report, but I have something I'd
like to remind all the WoW players of.
Eonwe Valar: If you're experience more severe lag than usual, check to
see if Blizzard's background Downloader is
running.
VardaValar1: especially if you're on Dial-up
Eonwe Valar: It's something they added a couple of patches ago to try
and make it wuicker for peeople to get the patch dowloaded by
downloading small parts before the big release.
Eonwe Valar: unfortunately, it's part of the Blizzard Downloader, which
means people are downloading from you just as you are downloading from
others/blizzard.
Eonwe Valar: This can cause lag, cable internet or not.
Eonwe Valar: So if it gets too unable, remember that you can deactivate
it.
Eonwe Valar: *unbearable
Eonwe Valar: I'll put up a post on our Forums under General WoW linking
to the info on the Downloader.
VardaValar1: We disabled it on all our computers and got Elwing's
computer back online that way, thanks to Eonwe's tip in the game.
Eonwe Valar: That that turned out to be what was causing Elwing's
problem?
Eonwe Valar: *So that.
VardaValar1: It was indeed. She is now happily playing again. : )
Eonwe Valar: Gald to hear that :]\
Eonwe Valar: Glad even.
Eonwe Valar: One more thing to add to all this.
VardaValar1: She may not sleep much on her WoW nights. ;-)
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Several people have asked for it, so a server was chosen
upon which we can play together on the Horde side.
Eonwe Valar: Varda took a look at the server lists and chose for us
Uldaman, one of the new servers.
Eonwe Valar: Primary Guild questing will still be on Lothar, but if it
just gets too ugly there due to lag, Uldaman is open for guild members.
VardaValar1: That was our primary reason, lag. We were also wanting to
try out some Horde together, about 8 of us, and needed a place.
VardaValar1: Plus Blood Elves will be out someday. ;-)
VardaValar1: We currently are using the Valar channel, not a formal
guild branch.
VardaValar1: We type /join Valar
VardaValar1: then we can find each other and put eachother on our buddy
lists.
VardaValar1: This is similar to what we do on all games that don't have
a formal branch.
VardaValar1: I would be willing to put up an Uldaman members page if
you folks would like it. It might be needed more than the Lothar page.
STEvilaim: hey, the evolution3d links are broken on the links page..
VardaValar1: But I'll need more help with your names.
VardaValar1: ouch. What's it under, Scatha?
STEvilaim: making your own game and....
STEvilaim: tolkien online gaming
VardaValar1: ahh, ok. I think they went down. Will have to check that
out.
VardaValar1: any further Gaming news?
STEvilaim: Crysis
by Crytek looks really cool? ;-)
ArPharazonV: got a new gamecard this week!
VardaValar1: Good Phar!
VardaValar1: Is Crysis multiplayer?
ArPharazonV: dinner at 6, raid at 8, and I found out my gametime had
run out at 4...
STEvilaim: yes, sequel to "Farcry"
ArPharazonV: so I had 2 hours to take the bus to the city, buy a new
card, and get back home ;-)
ArPharazonV: made it with 30 minutes to spare ;-)
VardaValar1: Congrats to Phar the Speedy. : )
VardaValar1: Scatha, did you have a chance to play it and can you give
us the link?
STEvilaim: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=102498
STEvilaim: i'm not in the beta/alpha so no info from me other than
whats on the net
VardaValar1: Thanks!
VardaValar1: They should know to put all Valar in these beta tests. ;-)
STEvilaim: :D
ArPharazonV: hmhm, we should take an effort to get us known in the
gaming world! :-P
VardaValar1: Free publicity if nothing else. : )
STEvilaim: yup
Eonwe Valar: Conduct yourselves honorably and get out there :}
VardaValar1: Feel free to post on LotRO etc, but keep it polite and
informative. : )
BhonTuath: hehe lets make the world tremble when they hear the name
Valar .. *eg*]
VardaValar1: What Eonwe said. : )
ArPharazonV: what Finduilas said ;-)
VardaValar1: Let's not, Finduilas : )
Eonwe Valar: Every member of the Valar Guild is the face of the Valar
Guild. You are our ambassadors.
VardaValar1: Rather they want to come to us than run. : )
BhonTuath: hihi yeah , in awe , Varda, not in fer ;-)
BhonTuath: fear
Eonwe Valar: Get out there and Make us Proud :}
VardaValar1: :-)
VardaValar1: Each of you is an ambassador and a scout for the
like-minded.
Eonwe Valar: I would like to quote from Faramir when he speaks of Minas
Tirith :}
ArPharazonV: the time comes when the Valar shake the councils of the
wise, the great, and the gaming companies...
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: I would like to, but I'd need my book to do so, and I
don't know if you want to sit here while I flip through pages :}
VardaValar1: Have to pull them off the games and webwork long enough to
be more present.
VardaValar1: Sure, we'll do things while you flip pages. : )
VardaValar1: Faramir has a lot of fun words to wade through. : )
VardaValar1: Show your quality. : )
VardaValar1: I think we are already moving into Tolkien so let's make
it official. : )

VardaValar1: Tolkien
Chat:
VardaValar1: On this week's additions to the web pages were a lot of
topics.
Menelvagor Valar: I'm off to bed, have a great night everyone!
VardaValar1: Good night!
ArPharazonV: night Menel!
BhonTuath: Good night Menel
STEvilaim: 'night
Gamatzgamatz has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar has left the room.
BhonTuath has left the room.
VardaValar1: Errand of Fate has a journey,
taking the valuable heirloom
to Elrond.
VardaValar1: Journeys are very big in Tolkien, of all kinds.
ArPharazonV: one particular journey from Hobbiton to Mount Doom comes
to mind...
VardaValar1: The Last to Dance once again shows how Aragorn spreads
hope during his journey.
VardaValar1: Aye, Phar. : )
VardaValar1: That was a long trek for those tiny folk!
Eonwe Valar: I think I found my quote :}
VardaValar1: Go Eonwe!
BhonTuath has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiyata. : )
BhonTuath: thx :-)
VardaValar1: Eonwe found the quote from Faramir. : )
Eonwe Valar: "I would have her loved
for her memory, her ancientry, her
beauty, and her present wisdom. Not feared, save as men may fear the
degnity of a man, old and wise." :}
Eonwe Valar: *dignity
VardaValar1: Perfect!
VardaValar1: That exactly fits what we hoped for the attitude towards
the Valar Guild. : )
STEvilaim: must take my leave, still feeling the affects of my birthday
on the 9th ;-) Fare well
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: namarie!
ArPharazonV: namarie! and happy birthday
Eonwe Valar: take care :}
Eonwe Valar: Happy Birthday :}
STEvilaim: cya
STEvilaim has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: On journey, there's the Journey to Henneth Annun :}
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: Unexpected friends on the way to Mordor, and beauty.
VardaValar1: and fissh.
ArPharazonV: so juicy sweeeet!
Eonwe Valar: Faramir showed a cunning control of the situation at
henneth Annun. Had Sam all relaxed and... "talky" :}
BhonTuath: hihihi ye know what? I thought last week some point it would
make a nice topic for in here *chuckles*
VardaValar1: Faramir is dangerous to talk with. : )
Eonwe Valar: Aye, he definitely shows he's a capable leader :}
VardaValar1: He didn't need the roughness the movie showed. In the
books, he talked them into giving up all their information. : )
Eonwe Valar: Didn't have to force one word out of Sam and he got all
the info he wanted :}
Eonwe Valar: Maybe he should've wined and dined Gollum too :}
VardaValar1: but Sam was right. That was a trustworthy person.
VardaValar1: Frodo was so busy denying Gollum was with them. I think
that may have been an error in dealing with Faramir.
Eonwe Valar: Aye, Faramir was. Such did Frodo and Sam find out, at the
end of the Journey to Henneth Annun :}
BhonTuath: I think his heart saw further than his head - Sam's I mean.
VardaValar1: Heart, intuition, I agree.
Eonwe Valar: Interesting thought.
VardaValar1: A lot of talk is in body language, inflections, all things
Sam probably picked up on.
VardaValar1: Also how Faramir's men reacted to Faramir.
ArPharazonV: things that could hardly be portrayed in a movie....
VardaValar1: They want a lot of visual action, but those visual cues
could show up better in a movie.
Eonwe Valar: The loyalty of Faramir's men could be portrayed in a movie.
VardaValar1: That it got across on a printed page that well is
remarkable.
VardaValar1: His men did seem loyal in the movie.
Eonwe Valar: Beregond's chat with Pippin about Faramir would've been a
good scene to get that across as well.
VardaValar1: Aye!
BhonTuath: I think that came a bit too short in the movie, but words do
often serve better than pictures ..
ArPharazonV: except for the fact that there was no Beregond in the
movie... they were quite careful with the introduction of new characters
VardaValar1: There were so many characters that it would be easy to
lose viewers who did not read the books.
VardaValar1: That's one reason Glorfindel was left out in the animated
and live movies.
ArPharazonV: visual details, loads of new characters, outstretched
conversation.... all examples of where the movies could have lost a lot
of viewers indeed
VardaValar1: True
ArPharazonV: we often complain about the movies and their details and
differences.. but a lot of the changes were almost necessary to appeal
to a larger audience
Eonwe Valar: To paraphrase Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura:When Nature Calls:
"Oh sure, let's do all the things the general public wants to do."
Eonwe Valar: And alot of changes were not.
ArPharazonV: no audience is no money... no expected audience is no
movie at all
ArPharazonV: and when not compared with the books, it was still a
fairly good movie :-)
BhonTuath: weel , I think Jackson did make a marvelous job
ArPharazonV: indeed
VardaValar1: Aye.
Orodreth V has entered the room.
BhonTuath: I think of rthe books that were turned into film , these
three are of the most accurate I can think of
Eonwe Valar: Sure, the general public can sit through 3 hours watching
a ship sink but can't sit through 4 watching something be given a
little more truly to the books?
VardaValar1: I'm glad he pulled back on the Xenarwen thing. : )
ArPharazonV: haha
BhonTuath: Aiya Orodreth
VardaValar1: Hi there, Orodreth : )
ArPharazonV: Aiya Oro
Eonwe Valar: Heya Orodreth
ArPharazonV: and that's what the extended edition is for, Eonwe ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movies, but there are
some parts that just get my dander up
ArPharazonV: just a tid bit closer and more complete :-)
ArPharazonV: *tad
VardaValar1: Same here, Eonwe. : )
Eonwe Valar: no, tid bit is right, hehe.
BhonTuath: hehe
ArPharazonV: well, but I meant tad, anyway :-)
VardaValar1: One complaint about the books was that they were too
short. : )
BhonTuath: some say the introduction is too long , grin
ArPharazonV: I've heard more complaints that they were too long, aye :-)
ArPharazonV: or do you mean the movie's introduction, Finduilas?
VardaValar1: I would have liked a lot more on some things in the books,
especially characterization.
BhonTuath: no the books
Eonwe Valar: I would've preferred seeing Glorfindel for 10 minutes and
never seeing him onscreen again to what they did.
VardaValar1: England was having a paper shortage at the time. Amazing
it made it out at it's length.
VardaValar1: I agree, Eonwe.
ArPharazonV: well, sure, we do, because we love the books
VardaValar1: They sure made Frodo look weak in the movie.
ArPharazonV: for people who start with the movies, a 10-minute
Glorfindel and then a complete disappearance would be quite redundant
VardaValar1: Frodo should not have had so many of his moments cut.
VardaValar1: Arwen took over his defiance of the Nazguls.
Eonwe Valar: Like the old Hobbit who smiles at the fireworks in the
first movie then frowns at the returning Hobbits in the last?
ArPharazonV: good point ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Getting an extra to play Glorfindel for a few hours of
shooting wouldn't have killed anything.
VardaValar1: I'm going to run into a time problem soon. We still have a
test to give.
BhonTuath: hhmm was that supposed to be the sackvilee - bagginses?
Shame they didn't get in hehe
Eonwe Valar: Ready when you are.
ArPharazonV: oh, they did, actually
BhonTuath: where?
ArPharazonV: in the extended edition, they had a more "present" part
ArPharazonV: at Bilbo's party
Eonwe Valar: That was a Sackville-Baggins?
VardaValar1: True.
Eonwe Valar: Thought that was a Proudfoot?
Eonwe Valar: He reminds me of the "Proudfeet" part.
VardaValar1: there was the Proudfoot, aye. But also S-B's
ArPharazonV: aye, they were looking for Bilbo and he hid from them
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, don't remember them. Will have to pay more attention
next time I watch it.
VardaValar1: It's not long.
ArPharazonV: but it's there :-)
VardaValar1: There are lots of tiny bits that one can miss in an
eyeblink, just for us book-lovers. : )
ArPharazonV: yup
BhonTuath: hmmm have to watche the dvds again .. what a hardship hehe
VardaValar1: hehe - right
VardaValar1: Only problem is being time-consuming
VardaValar1: Guess while doing homework? :-)
ArPharazonV: hehe... 11 hours of movie... not something you casually do
on a random day
VardaValar1: You...don't?
BhonTuath: *g* got me there lol]
VardaValar1: Oh.
Eonwe Valar: Have to get piles of snacks... Sandwiches, chips, soda,
maybe some pasta for halfway through the second.... Oh, I don't have to
watch them all back-to-back? :}
ArPharazonV: not in a single run, Varda :-)
VardaValar1: Nope, not required. : )
ArPharazonV: watching them in one go would sure be interesting
Eonwe Valar: I've done it :}
Eonwe Valar: Extended editions :}
ArPharazonV: start at 4 pm and go on to 3 am... fun way to spend an
evening ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Sounds roughly correct :}
VardaValar1: Or weekend and start early.
VardaValar1: I'm more of a morning elf, er Valie.
ArPharazonV: not me, I'm usually more afternoon/evening
ArPharazonV: when I don't have college, the day usually starts at 2 pm
for me..
ArPharazonV: and when I do have college the day doesn't really start
for me until I'm back home ;-)
VardaValar1: Well, Orodreth. Guess you'd better make that report now. :
)
ArPharazonV: so 4pm to 3am is really something I should try... get a
few friends over, get the snacks out, and not blink for 11 hours ;-)
VardaValar1: Blink? One might blink during LotR?
ArPharazonV: nooo, you'd only miss the details!
ArPharazonV: one blink, and you might miss the S-B's at the party!
VardaValar1: oops.
Eonwe Valar: That's ok, your friends wouldn't mind you constantly
rewinding after each blink.
ArPharazonV: haha
VardaValar1: :-)
BhonTuath: hihi

After-meeting:
Orodreth V: /me pokes his head in
VardaValar1: Hi there!
Orodreth V: My (very) belated gaming
report: Bnet
bot is gone until
further notice, as it was becoming unstable for some unknown reason and
crashes during firefights in Eve was not cool.
VardaValar1: ack
VardaValar1: Thanks for letting us know.
Orodreth V: WoS
I got my server to work, it will be up and passworded
as soon as I get told what it should be. :p
ArPharazonV: what it should be?
ArPharazonV: oh, the password
ArPharazonV: been so long since I saw or used that password.... no idea
what it is... did we even get a new one this year?
VardaValar1: That would be me you ask, and not in public. : )
Orodreth V: I think I used it once in a SC game when I first joined...
Orodreth V: So yea. Meant to email you but forgot.
ArPharazonV: not asking what it is, just asking if we had it changed
this year :-)
Eonwe Valar: Oh, another note of WoW interest: the talent calculators
on the WoW site have been redesigned to be better and respond
faster in
IE.
VardaValar1: yay!
Orodreth V: Anyways, the server will be up as much as my computer is,
under the name Valar Private Server.
I won't set the world command
either, so you can play any world you want...
Orodreth V: ...until I get on, kick you off, and start up Aeri.
Orodreth V: ;-)
ArPharazonV: it's online now?
Orodreth V: Will be in a minute.
Orodreth V: Is now. Should show up in the list in a minute or two.
Orodreth V: Adding it to startup in a second.
ArPharazonV: I'm in!
VardaValar1: yay1
VardaValar1: Ok, passwording handled. : )
Orodreth V: Well...
Orodreth V: I can't seem to see my own server. :p
Eonwe Valar: It's over there *points to location of server in
Orodreth's house* :}
Orodreth V: Keep your day job. :p
Eonwe Valar: Will do :}
ArPharazonV: c'mon, join, it's lonely in here ;-)
Orodreth V: Soon as I can, I will.
VardaValar1: pardon, in test
VardaValar1: We have one of your players there. ; )
VardaValar1: Bhon Tuath
ArPharazonV: it appears my wasp is finally getting healthier again...
had him on a wrong diet for a while, so was sickly... and now has
practically no stamina....
Eonwe Valar: Wasp?
VardaValar1: What do you feed him?
Eonwe Valar: Nm, don't think I want to know.
VardaValar1: Well of Souls pet
Eonwe Valar: oh ok
ArPharazonV: had been so long... I thought I had to make his diet the
same color as the circle portraying his stomach.. then it turned out it
has to be the same color as his face ;-)
ArPharazonV: but he's allright now, I have him on his pure green
diet.... quite easy to feed :-)
ArPharazonV: so now it's just a matter of time again before he finally
starts to gain some hp!
BhonTuath: hey cool Orod
VardaValar1: Good to know
VardaValar1: I will be playing sometimes, especially when I can't get
past the competition for the WoW computers. ;-)
ArPharazonV: eck! almost had that gnome king.... but one spell was
enough to finish me off...
Orodreth V: If I could make it in, I'd help you, but I can't... :p
ArPharazonV: eh, I'll try again when I'm a level higher :-)
Orodreth V: Ar, pop over to the Aeri server. Until I can play on my own
server, that's where I'll be. :p
ArPharazonV: oh, allright
ArPharazonV: what was it again? /im
4892?
Orodreth V: yea
VardaValar1: Thanks
ArPharazonV: any idea how to identify a song that plays at a specific
moment at the midi-list?
VardaValar1: In some programs it might be at the top of the window?
ArPharazonV: I mean inside the game :-)
VardaValar1: I have no idea. : )
Orodreth V: You have to dig through the scriping.
Orodreth V: and with Aeri, that's a real chore. :p
Orodreth V: Ar, when you connected to my sever, did you get spammed
with the message "You seem to have lost your network connection"?
ArPharazonV: nope, had that last week, but not this time
Orodreth V: k
Orodreth V: rebooting router, back in a flash
Orodreth V has left the room.
Orodreth V has left the room.
Orodreth V has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: well, this is interesting... just found a book about the
history of Innleach...
ArPharazonV: with the main character a paladin called Turin and his
sword Gurthang :-D
Orodreth V: So Loric borrowed a little.. :p
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Is his best friend's name Beleg? :}
ArPharazonV: wooh, just killed the gnome king
Orodreth V: (level 10 :P)
ArPharazonV: he killed my wasp, but I'm alive... and my wasp comes
easily back to life
ArPharazonV: lvl 12 myself!
BhonTuath: 17 ..
BhonTuath: alas]
ArPharazonV: well, gotta go, time for bed
ArPharazonV: good luck with the test
VardaValar1: Namarie
ArPharazonV: saving and sending
VardaValar1: Thank you!
ArPharazonV: saved
Orodreth V: Bhon, type /im 4892
VardaValar1: Forgive her if she's a bit distracted, as she's in a test
too.
Orodreth V: Ahh.
ArPharazonV: sent!
ArPharazonV: Namarie all!
VardaValar1: Thanks
ArPharazonV has left the room.
Orodreth V: I have meeting logs on here starting in april of last year.
:|
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: But you never send one in?
VardaValar1: You do get credit for it. : )
VardaValar1: Your name in type. : )
Orodreth V: They're all in one big file, with central timestamps..
VardaValar1: You ever read them?
Orodreth V: No. :p
Orodreth V: Actually, I did just now to find the channel number.
Orodreth V: For woS.
Orodreth V: But other than that, no. :p
VardaValar1: Might want to clear some comp space then : )
VardaValar1: It's supposedly on the guild site
VardaValar1: Finduilas-(V), welcome to the Valar Guild as a Full Member!
VardaValar1: You just earned your promotion. :-)
Orodreth V: It takes up a few mb is all..Besides I'm sure it'll come in
handy someday...
BhonTuath: Ok i folks , I ; ll move my tired behind out of here ;-)
BhonTuath: some peeps have to work hehe
Orodreth V: /me basks in summer vacation
BhonTuath: some folk have all the luck good night for now see ye folk
next Week :-) , am on Eve btw Orod ;-)
BhonTuath: iyell see me , I fly the Nargothrond
VardaValar1: She's a fellow Eve Onliner. : )
VardaValar1: Namarie!
BhonTuath: Namarie !
VardaValar1: And she got 5/5 while nearly asleep. : )
BhonTuath has left the room.
Orodreth V: !
Orodreth V: Argh, need to ask her all the details next time.
VardaValar1: hehe
Orodreth V: I dbout she has an inside line on Wolf production, but
there's alwaya chance, right?
VardaValar1: Never know. : )
Orodreth V: I get them cheap, but the price just went from 12m to 15m.
:| Market is 20m, but I'd rather pay 12 either way..
Orodreth V: Anyways, I'm about a third of the way to the level req for
making a guild on Orodreth, and over two thirds of the way their on my
non-guild alt.
VardaValar1: As in you have enough alts to nearly make a guild? : )
Orodreth V: :p
Orodreth V: No, you need level 60 to create a guild. Dorfl is like 43
and Orodreth is 24.
Orodreth V: Don't need a number of people like on wc3 or wow.
VardaValar1: One guy is enough for a guild?
Orodreth V: Yup.
Orodreth V: :p
Arwen V1 has left the room.
VardaValar1: Did you see Arwen come in?
VardaValar1: I only saw her leave.
Eonwe Valar: I only saw herleave as well.
Orodreth V: Arwen has uberchat powers. She comes into rooms and you
don't even know it....
Orodreth V: *twilight zone music*
Eonwe Valar: hehe
VardaValar1: Now we know!
Orodreth V: So, do you have an email for our newest member? Or better
yet, here Eve name?
Orodreth V: her*
VardaValar1: yes, we have her email. It's on the Tolkien-only page
VardaValar1: She was Finduilas-(TV) and was promoted today to
Finduilas-(V)
VardaValar1: In case you need it now before the update. : )
Orodreth V: heh
Orodreth V: Varda, I got bows from 0 to 25 if you want to get on and
take them. :p I have no use for them.
VardaValar1: Cool
VardaValar1: Too bad no mailbox
Orodreth V: :-(
VardaValar1: Carrying a bow I can't use now
Orodreth V: Heh.
VardaValar1: I probably should
VardaValar1: Big Tolkien discussion on a side window : )
VardaValar1: I'll get on
VardaValar1: This isn't the computer I put WoS on, be a bit.
VardaValar1: Currently doing the download and install, among other
things.
Orodreth V: Er.
Orodreth V: You won't be able to play your character unless you move
the original WoS folder over.
VardaValar1: oh well
VardaValar1: That's bad news
Orodreth V: A downside to storing characters clinetside. :
Orodreth V: :\
VardaValar1: I need to play it on this comp, so I'll just start a new
one here to actually play.
VardaValar1: The other wasn't far along, good learning character.
Orodreth V: heh
Orodreth V: Well, filling out a job app now, so not playing really. :p
VardaValar1: Multiplayer Network choice?
VardaValar1: Any Public MIX Game Server?
VardaValar1: You had a server you wanted us on?
VardaValar1: Or just jump on in?
VardaValar1: ok, jumping in while you fill in job app. Good luck on it!
Orodreth V: Aerianell
VardaValar1: aye
Orodreth V: Is the name of the server I'm on.
VardaValar1: World
VardaValar1: Thought you were making something you wanted us on?
Orodreth V: Was, but I can't play on it. :p
VardaValar1: Aerianell is where we went last time.
VardaValar1: You can't play on yours? heh
Orodreth V: Working on a solution with some server gurus, but they had
to go, so I need to wait untl tomorrow.
VardaValar1: Will we have to rebuild our characters to use it? I assume?
TH0R0NGIL has left the room.
VardaValar1: Using name Elbereth,
elf instead of elf2
Orodreth V: No.
Orodreth V: Your characters are interchangeable over servers.
Orodreth V: That's the pro side of clientside characters.
VardaValar1: Helps keep me straight. ;-)
VardaValar1: Having an idea of what to do makes all the difference in
the World. :-)
VardaValar1: Leveling and not dying
Orodreth V: Heh. Once you get higher I'll run Dorfl through the
Coilisium a few time and get you the armor and stuff.
VardaValar1: I didn't want to be a warrior
VardaValar1: Wanted to be an archer
VardaValar1: Must have hit something wrong somewhere
VardaValar1: I'm a good warrior, but not what I intended.
VardaValar1: Do I need to delete and restart?
VardaValar1: He said yes, I did. All is well now :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
