    Varda's topic: What might tempt the characters in LotR to use the One Ring?
After-meeting:
    Pharazon tells the biography backstory for one of his WoW characters.
    RP: Our forum Tolkien role-play "Scouting Ahead" discussion is a bit scattered at first as we catch up on the most recent posts, then solid discussion a long time as we post a record number of times.

Before-meeting:
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
FladrifV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiya
FladrifV: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: heya
LuthienV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Got my epic mount!
Eonwe Valar: Congrats :}
Eonwe Valar: Just need a trip to Scholomance for mine :}
FladrifV: grats!!!
ArPharazonV: was quite a wait, since I was exalted with Ironforge months ago
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya! :-)
Eonwe Valar: I can imagine how much cloth that took.
ArPharazonV: but after borrowing the last 400g from a guildmember, I was able to purchase the Swift Gray Ram for my druid!
ArPharazonV: yeah, it did :-)
ArPharazonV: a lot of cloth it was
Eonwe Valar: Heya Varda :}
VardaValar1: ./wave
ArPharazonV: so now I just need to save up 300g more and then I can repay the debt
ArPharazonV: shouldn't take too long ;-)
Eonwe Valar: I'm working on Revered with AD right now. Doing the Scourge Cauldrons and finding myself with plenty of runecloth left over, but I just send it to the Guild's Tailors so they can make something of it :}
ArPharazonV: hehe
ArPharazonV: I'm almost exalted with AD now, just need 2000 more reputation
Eonwe Valar: only have 900 more rep to go :}
ArPharazonV: cool, with luck, we should both have reached our goals then by next meeting
VardaValar1: *Tailor raises hand eagerly*
Eonwe Valar: Aye :}
Eonwe Valar: I might try to push for my goal tonight :}
ArPharazonV: eh, I still need about 750 scourgestones
Eonwe Valar: Do the Scoure Cauldron quests if you still get rep from them.
Eonwe Valar: *Scourge.
Eonwe Valar: You'll get rep from them as well while you collect the Scourgestones.
ArPharazonV: true, but it takes more effort, bagspace, and luck with drops
Eonwe Valar: And if you do Felstone Field or Dalson's Tears, you'll get bone fragments for the Turnins at Light's Hope.
ArPharazonV: and bone fragments I don't need
ArPharazonV: those I get from farming stones I send to guildmembers
Eonwe Valar: It doesn't really take more effort for me to do the Scourge Cauldrons as opposed to hunting the lvl 60 Guys in EP, but then, I'm a Paladin :}
ArPharazonV: I just farm Andorhal, easy enough
ArPharazonV: occasionally I kill an abomination there and get an invader's stone on top of my minion's stones
ArPharazonV: I find it much more relaxing
Eonwe Valar: I just find doing the Scourge Cauldrons a more toloerable grind to be honest.
Eonwe Valar: Heh, well at least we've both found something we can stand to do :}
ArPharazonV: well then our tastes must differ :-)
ArPharazonV: yeah, so it seems :-)
Eonwe Valar: I got tired of farming the 60s :}
VardaValar1: brb
ArPharazonV: I farm lvl 54s
Eonwe Valar: Each Scourge Cauldron beyond Felstone is worth the same rep as 1 Argent Dawn Valor Token.
ArPharazonV: the cauldron-fields seem to be overfarmed pretty much, as did Sorrow Hill, where I used to farm
ArPharazonV: so I went to Andorhal, a lot less people there and a lot more mobs
ArPharazonV: and a lot better droprate :-)
Eonwe Valar: So I gather a stack of that (about 4 "turnins" at the Cauldron) and end up with about 40 scourgestones in the process.
Eonwe Valar: Well, I can't argue about that.
Eonwe Valar: I certainly am not the only one there.
Eonwe Valar: But generally the peopel there are fairly "polite" in that they take a section of the farm and leave the section I'm clearing to me.
ArPharazonV: :-)
Xseanzee disco has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: It really annoys me when one guy comes charging in and stirs up all the Undead, then runs off, and somehow I end up with a group of Undead coming right at me.
FinduilasV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: haha
VardaValar1: back
ArPharazonV: Aiyata
Eonwe Valar: If the group staggers itself a bit and doesn't all attack me in a group larger than about 5, I can survive with a couple of cooldowns and some potions.
Eonwe Valar: wb :}
FinduilasV: /me greets every one crimson
VardaValar1: Pretty shade :-)
FinduilasV: Aiya ;-)
ArPharazonV: psh, potions... I just vendor those
ArPharazonV: at least Andorhal has single mobs I can grind down
ArPharazonV: of course, I can take groups of 3 at once as well, or more if I go bear
Eonwe Valar: Vendor them? You could probably make some decent money selling them on the AH.
Eonwe Valar: Every bit of gold helps :}
FinduilasV: is that one or thousand silver?
FinduilasV: one gold?
Eonwe Valar: Got 20 gold from a +18 fire resist ring the other night. Had I know it'd go so fast, I would've upped the price a bit more:}
ArPharazonV: I usually get 1 or 2 potions of a kind before my inventory's full with other vendor-junk.. I don't like the thought of flying back to Ironforge every selling-round, just takes a lot of time
Eonwe Valar: 1g = 100 silver = 100 copper.
ArPharazonV: during which I could have ground/grinded/whatever a lot more
FinduilasV: good good then ONe of my chars is not so far away hehe
Eonwe Valar: or rather, to make that conversion clearer:
Eonwe Valar: 1 gold = 100 silver, 1 silver = 100 copper.
ArPharazonV: 20g for a +18 resist ring? yeah, that's kinda cheap, at least on our server
ArPharazonV: 20 resist can go for over 100g, depending on the type
FinduilasV: /me nods
Eonwe Valar: I was just trying to get rid of it, but wasn't expecting it to go so fast :}
Eonwe Valar: I don't think I could get 100g on a resist ring on Lothar. 50 gold maybe.
ArPharazonV: well, as an endgame-raider who has seen just about every instance in the game, those things tend to get important
ArPharazonV: one of the bosses needs a huge lot of nature-resist, for example
ArPharazonV: and another requires every raidmember to have a lot of fire-resistance
ArPharazonV: +15-20 resist rings of various kinds seem to rise heavily in value during those times
Gotta Scratch has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya.
VardaValar1: One sec
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: Heya
Gotta Scratch: I'm Elwing on GottaScratch aim :-)
Eonwe Valar: Ah ok :}
Eonwe Valar: Heya Elwing :}
VardaValar1: I'm going to ask Eonwe to chair. Maybe I can help Elwing with AIM a bit. : )
Gotta Scratch: I can't remember squat!
Eonwe Valar: ok :}
VardaValar1: Good, because you don't need to. I'll be upstairs with you in a moment! : )
Eonwe Valar: Ok, let's begin :}
top

Eonwe Valar: Elenn Sila Lumenn Omentielvo!
Gotta Scratch has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Membership News:
Eonwe Valar: New Membership page completed, merging all the membership info and pages into one.
Eonwe Valar: Check your info to make sure it's still correct.
Eonwe Valar: If it's not, contact Varda :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other membership news?
top

Eonwe Valar: Ok, on to Web News:
Eonwe Valar: Alot of new stuff on the Stories Page.
Eonwe Valar: "In the Pits of Utumno", "Strange Tales, Or Myths and Misconceptions", "A Midsummer Night's Dream"....
VardaValar1: Back
Eonwe Valar: "Thranduil's Heir", "The Dead Marshes", and about seven more stories up, all by Jay of Lasgalen.
VardaValar1: Could just say Varda's been catching up on Jay of Lasgalen's stories :-)
VardaValar1: and 70 drabbles
VardaValar1: and a few more stories up today ;-)
Eonwe Valar: I thought about that after skimming the full list :}
VardaValar1: You can best read them by looking at the Quick List or Jay's Author's page to read the series in order as the spirit moves you
VardaValar1: or look at the descriptions on the author's page for those that fit your tastes. : )
VardaValar1: True of all the story lists
Elwing V has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Elwing : )
FinduilasV: Aiya Elwing :-)
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Varda :}
Elwing V: Aiya I'm myself now (I think)
Eonwe Valar: Games Page: Changed the news font color, but that's about it besides adding new news :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other Web news?
VardaValar1: Yes
Eonwe Valar: Your floor.
VardaValar1: The Members pages have been combined
VardaValar1: I hope they are now easier to use
VardaValar1: When you hit Members on the site, it should go to a table with all the contact info in one place, and it should be easier to keep updated
VardaValar1: It should be completely current now. *crosses fingers*
VardaValar1: Done.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
Eonwe Valar: If that's all the Web News, on to Gaming.

Gaming:
Elwing V: Been playing WOW too long - talking about hitting members :-) poor members
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Eonwe Valar: WoW Lothar: Guild Questing took us first into DM West, then into DM East.
Eonwe Valar: Eonw, Arwen, Ulmo, Varda, and Arathorn went into DM West to go after Tendris Warpwood, whom I needed to deal with for my Paladin's epic mount quest.
Eonwe Valar: We did well getting past the Protectors, and once we got to Tendris, he wasn't that hard either :}
Eonwe Valar: When the Ancient Equine Spirit appeared, I gave him some special horsefeed, and he blessed my Arcanite Barding, lucky me :}
ArPharazonV: nice horsy!
Eonwe Valar: Ulmo had to go, unfortunately, but Varda switched to her Priest and we went into DM East, to get her, Arwen, and Arathorn the Crescent Key.
Eonwe Valar: After playing in DM West, a visit to DM East was sooo easy :}
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: We did lose our lives a couple of times when they got some cheap shots in on us, but we caught up to the imp, who insisted on running ever time we talked to him, until we cornered him.
Eonwe Valar: Then he got mean on us and called in some imp buddies :}
FinduilasV: tsk
Eonwe Valar: They roughed us up a bit, but in the end the poor key-holding imp was all by his lonesome :}
FinduilasV: most indecent ...
Eonwe Valar: We defeated him and took a short break, during which Arwen had to go for a bit. Then Arathorn, Varda, and I went after Lethtendris, and defeated her fairly easily :}
Eonwe Valar: And that is the Guild questing report. Back to you, Eonw :}
Eonwe Valar: Thanks, Eonw :}
ArPharazonV: talking to yourself?
ArPharazonV: first sign of insanity, no?
Eonwe Valar: Only once :}
Eonwe Valar: And no, answering yourself is :}
VardaValar1: oops
VardaValar1: I do that. ;-)
FinduilasV: Hmmm ... welcome then hehe
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news? Anyone play anything besides WoW?
VardaValar1: yes
VardaValar1: I played D2X
VardaValar1: Barely saved my two most ancient accounts and restarted one that died.
VardaValar1: Amazing how much fun it still is. : )
VardaValar1: They also brought back the old channel system
Eonwe Valar: So, we have gavels again?
VardaValar1: When we leave a game, we are back in Valar channel again. I was very pleased. : )
Eonwe Valar: ah, ok :}That's good too :}
VardaValar1: No, I mean not stuck to the lobby which was killing us.
VardaValar1: We could do gavel by going to ops, but it requires the same name to be present as the ops channel name
VardaValar1: Done
Eonwe Valar: In LotRO News, some new places and things have been put up to view.
Eonwe Valar: The House of Tom Bombadil, The Dear Spire, and Shades.
VardaValar1: Dear Spire?
Eonwe Valar: Er, that should be Dead Spire.
ArPharazonV: ..Bombadil!
VardaValar1: For once, Bombadil is not ignored. : )
VardaValar1: Although he's in at least one other game.
Eonwe Valar: Aye, LotRO gets to join the small list of LotR incations that actually have our merry ol' fellow in it.
ArPharazonV: BfME 2 has Bombadil, aye
ArPharazonV: as does that fellowship of the ring game
Eonwe Valar: Read my Reviews for sightings of BOmbadil. I mention it in most of them if he's there :}
VardaValar1: Nice : )
Eonwe Valar: LotRvol 1 (SNES), FotR(XBOX), FotR(GBA, though this one is horrible), LotRvol1:FotR(PC),..
Eonwe Valar: GBA= Gameboy Advance, SNES = Super Nintendo, for those who don't know.
Eonwe Valar: PC of course = computer :}
Eonwe Valar: XBox is obvious :}
ArPharazonV: hey hey, personal computer!
ArPharazonV: no?
Eonwe Valar: Technically, Personal Computer, aye, and even more specifically, IBM based computers :}
VardaValar1: Beats impersonal computer?
Eonwe Valar: PC as opposed to Mac :}
Eonwe Valar: Most of the games with BOmbadil are enjoyable, except the GBA one. There was no saving grace. It's such a dead world, and a poorly contrived system. Only buy it if you're looking to collect all LotR games.
Eonwe Valar: It's not worth a once-through/
Eonwe Valar: And now you've seen my review on that game, more or less :}
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: There are plenty of games out there for you all to review though, so send in a review today! :}
Eonwe Valar: You can send in an opposing review if you wish as well.
Eonwe Valar: And while we're talking about the Games Page, don't forget to check your Gaming Info and make sure it's correct :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other Gaming News? Send me Tolkien topics now as well.
VardaValar1: First off, I need to mention
FinduilasV: Well , a short request maybe
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead Varda.
FinduilasV: ?
VardaValar1: that I may be unavailable a while, vacation for two weeks starting Aug 7
VardaValar1: but you are not abandoned. : )
VardaValar1: Go ahead, Finduilas : )
FinduilasV: go on
FinduilasV: hmm lol well if anyone of ye sixties genarals on Argent Dawn could spare some time for a poor druid
FinduilasV: it would be great
ArPharazonV: sure, whenever I'm not in a raid or something, I can help
FinduilasV: ok let me know u know my alts ')
ArPharazonV: when I'm done with my last 2000 reputation for Argent Dawn, I'll begin to level my hunter, so might be able to join you then
FinduilasV: when ur free :-)
Eonwe Valar: We have a Tolkien topic when we're ready :}
ArPharazonV: I know a lot of your alts, not sure if I know them all... are they on the WoW page?
FinduilasV: Well add Narimia
FinduilasV: but the rest is correct
ArPharazonV: allright
Eonwe Valar: So, I should add Narimia to the Games Page as well then, Finduilas? :}
FinduilasV: Might be an idae ;-) Dont forget Silky :-)
ArPharazonV: oh, btw, before we go Tolkien
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead Phar :}
ArPharazonV: Blizzard released some information about the Outdoor PvP Objectives in patch 1.12
ArPharazonV: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/underdev/1p12/outdoorpvp.xml for you Americans
Eonwe Valar: Aha! THought I forgot to mention something.
ArPharazonV: http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/underdev/1p12/outdoorpvp.html for Europe
ArPharazonV: so far, I don't see any difference between the pages, but I thought I'd link them both anyway
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Phar :}They also mentioned Paladins for Horde and Shaman for Alliance upcoming in the Expansion. Take that as you will :}
ArPharazonV: yeah, but only for the 2 new races
Eonwe Valar: Aye, but still :}
ArPharazonV: oh, and I got my epic mount, for those who missed it at the beginning of the meeting
VardaValar1: Grats!
ArPharazonV: been exalted with Ironforge since... February, or so, and after loaning 400 gold from a guildmember/friend I got my epic ram!
Eonwe Valar: Updates to your Gaming info should be up now, Finduilas.
ArPharazonV: and I don't care what the others say about an elf on a ram... I love it ;-)
VardaValar1: =)
Elwing V: what makes a ram epic? really huge horns?
VardaValar1: Might be odd for an elf on a mechano-strider, but any animal makes sense.
Eonwe Valar: Maybe it being named Grond? Oh, we're not talking about battering rams here.
Eonwe Valar: :}
ArPharazonV: he has a lot more armor, but the most important thing is its speed
ArPharazonV: it's a lot faster than a normal mount
ArPharazonV: and the armor doesn't actually matter, since he doesn't take damage anyway
Eonwe Valar: Anyway, we've got a Tolkien topic, so let's begin :}
ArPharazonV: oh, and I named him Spiff
ArPharazonV: but yeah, that's it for my small report
top

Eonwe Valar: Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: What might tempt the characters in LotR to use the One Ring? Gandalf says he would be tempted through pity. Frodo was tempted constantly. What about others?
ArPharazonV: Boromir wanted to use it against Mordor
VardaValar1: The Ring was brought through a lot of areas. Surely it acted on some of the people there.
ArPharazonV: as did Denethor, I assume
VardaValar1: Denethor was never near the Ring, luckily
Eonwe Valar: Elrond or Galadriel wielding it might've been able to challange Sauron, if they had the forces to win through to Sauron in the first place. That could've ensured a place for Elves in the next Age.
Elwing V: wonder how the ring of power would work if use with one of the other elf rings? would the other subdue the One or would the One corrupt the other?
ArPharazonV: I think the One would subdue the other and corrupt its wearer
FinduilasV: The thing is the ring never could be used against Sauron himself or with good intentions
VardaValar1: The One is the master Ring over all the others.
ArPharazonV: if Elrond or Galadriel would use the Ring to defeat Sauron, it would corrupt them and set them up as Dark Lord/Lady themselves
ArPharazonV: "all would love me and despair" :-)
Eonwe Valar: Aye, they would eventually become a Dark Lord in place of Sauron.
Eonwe Valar: But in the meantime, Elves would have a place in Middle-Earth :}
VardaValar1: I wonder if they would have become overseer types, the elves
Eonwe Valar: So that is likely the temptation both Elrond and Galadriel felt, as the desire to remain in Middle-Earth was the reason the Rings of Power were created in the first place.
ArPharazonV: true
Eonwe Valar: That would've been awkward for Aragorn, his lover's father turning evil.
ArPharazonV: but Galadiel resisted the temptation, gave up her hopes of ruling a realm in Middle-Earth, and thus decided to take ship to Valinor
ArPharazonV: she would diminish, and go into the West... and remain Galadiel
ArPharazonV: gotta love that part, especially if you understand what it means in full
Elwing V: Elrond did not seem to have any inclination to want the ring, even in his realm
Eonwe Valar: The Elves, however, could no longer be fooled by Sauron, and so Elrond and Galadriel knew what they were tempted with was the work of Sauron. Frodo learned this lesson too at Weathertop.
ArPharazonV: indeed
Eonwe Valar: To have the Ring in any realm when Sauron came for it would be a terrible temptation.
Elwing V: interesting as he is part human, and humans had already sucumbed to other ring temptations
Elwing V: ringwraiths
Elwing V: Isilduir
Eonwe Valar: The desire to protect your people and your realm would be great. Denethor is evidence of this, as he states openly he would use it "at the last need."
ArPharazonV: right, he would lock it in his deepest vault or something, is what I recall
ArPharazonV: meh, been too long... I should really re-read
Eonwe Valar: Aye, he would, "not to be drawn forth, except at the last need" is roughly how it goes.
VardaValar1: The last need just keeps getting easier to reach until it's used for getting a ham sandwich.
Eonwe Valar: Denethor openly admits he would give into the temptation to use the Ring.
Eonwe Valar: lol Varda :}
Eonwe Valar: "I just can't reach that far anymore. Ham sandwich, come to me!"
VardaValar1: People are naturally lazy : )
VardaValar1: That's one reason the Ring is so tempting.
Elwing V: pfft - it's a ring of power for good ness sake - supersize that sandwich!
Eonwe Valar: quick and easy power.
VardaValar1: Being a people, I know this. ;-)
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: getting the most for the least effort... yes, natural tendency of people
Eonwe Valar: Sam was tempted as well.
Eonwe Valar: He was tempted to be a great leader, to turn all of Mordor into a garden, but he had no ambitions for power, so those temptations had nothing to take root in.
VardaValar1: The whole world was in danger with whole nations needing saved. Almost anyone would be tempted mightily in such times.
Arwen V1 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: After seeing Aragorn command the men of Dunharrow, Legolas speculates how Aragorn would've been had he taken the Ring.
Eonwe Valar: *dead men of Dunharrow, to be specific.
ArPharazonV: Sam, no ambitions for leadership? interesting, as he was mayor for 49 years
Eonwe Valar: Funny how that works out, eh? :}
ArPharazonV: indeed :-)
Elwing V: mayor not quite the same as despot ruler
Eonwe Valar: Not in most cities, anyway :}
Elwing V: :-) right
Elwing V: could have been one of those "we elected you while you were out of the room" situations
ArPharazonV: hehe
Eonwe Valar: I tihnk Merry and/or Pippin's temptations by the Ring would be more basic, like the struggle between Deagol and Smeagol: "ooh, shiny."
Eonwe Valar: *think
FladrifV: namarie, worms was great :D
ArPharazonV: Namarie
ArPharazonV: worms?
Eonwe Valar: And saying that makes me wonder what correlations can be drawn between those two pairs...
VardaValar1: Worms the game : )
Eonwe Valar: Take care Fladrif :}
FladrifV: worms 3 :D
FladrifV: old and fun no 3d thingies
FinduilasV: Safe Travels Fladrif
FladrifV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Merry and Pippin were not common hobbits
VardaValar1: They could have thought in broader terms
VardaValar1: Merry was heir to the Warren
VardaValar1: Pippin was the hereditary Thain of the hobbits
Eonwe Valar: Smeagol was apparently a naturally curious Hobbit with a penchant for using that knowledge to further his own agendas. Pippin was a naturally curious Hobbit with a tad too much naivite.
Eonwe Valar: or maybe scratch the naivite part.
VardaValar1: Aye. Pippin was very young, one reason Elrond questioned his going.
Eonwe Valar: but replace the second "i" with an "e" first so you're scratching out an actual word.
Eonwe Valar: Pippin and Merry really already had about as much authority as I would imagine any Hobbit would want. For some reason, I really don't see "power" as a big pull on those two.
VardaValar1: Aye, might be one reason the Valar sent them on the Fellowship
Elwing V: Maybe the ring tempted them with limitless food and pipeweed
VardaValar1: Each member had a lot of power of his own, and even Sam became Mayor : )
ArPharazonV: I don't see power as a big pull on most hobbits
ArPharazonV: could be a reason why they're so resilient
FinduilasV: I think it was more of a reward for them
FinduilasV: its like leadership comes to the natural leaders without asking ..
Eonwe Valar: The primary temptation for Frodo at first was as a means of escape, not as a way of conquering his enemies, so you may be right.
Elwing V: they had some powerstruggles - like some wanting Bilbos house because it was so grand
ArPharazonV: well, yes, there are exceptions
Eonwe Valar: Well, that pretty much is why, Phar. Hobbits are more or less content with the way things are in their little sphere of the world.
ArPharazonV: had the ring gone to Lotho for example, it could have turned out quite differently
VardaValar1: The Sackville-Bagginses, Ted Sandyman were about as bad as hobbits got naturally.
Elwing V: with the rings influence, a lot more might have suddenly gotten a desire for power
ArPharazonV: exactly, Eonwe
VardaValar1: The Ring would push any desire for power present, true.
Eonwe Valar: Makes one wonder exactly how long Saruman had been Meddling in the Shire. One generation? Two? Enough to turn up the desire for stuff in Lobelia's son and Ted Sandyman?
ArPharazonV: hobbits were a bit like Elves, in that respect.. preservation rather than power
ArPharazonV: of course, for Elves, power could have been the key to that preservation, as was said earlier..
Eonwe Valar: Well, the Elves didn't really move to preservation until the Third Age.
ArPharazonV: well, Third Age Elves then
Eonwe Valar: Before then they did seek to expand their influence.
ArPharazonV: the Elves shifted to a desire for preservation, in the Third Age
Eonwe Valar: And that really only fits the Noldor. Seems Thranduil's been trying to expand his influence the whole time.
Eonwe Valar: Thranduil was a pretty strong influence on Laketown before Battle of Five Armies.
Eonwe Valar: *before the
FinduilasV: hmm wasnt the pipeweed not something of saruman to punish the Hobbits to take something away they like?
Eonwe Valar: Saruman shipped in alot of pipeweed for his and his commanders' personal use.
VardaValar1: Thranduil might have been tempted by the Ring, as he was in a constant battle with Dol Guldur and had been pushed back three times.
Eonwe Valar: Longbottom leaf too, the best stuff.
VardaValar1: The hobbits corrupted Saruman. ;-)
Eonwe Valar: *shipped in = shipped in to Isengard.
Eonwe Valar: Actually, I recall Saruman picking up the habit from Gandalf, so Gandalf corrupted Saruman :}
VardaValar1: :-)
ArPharazonV: yes, I don't think shipping in pipeweed was not so much to deprive the Hobbits of it than to provide it for himself ;-)
Eonwe Valar: And here we thought we could trust Gandalf :}
VardaValar1: Aye, Phar
ArPharazonV: I don't think the Hobbits really had a shortage because of what Saruman took
VardaValar1: Gandalf was corrupted by hobbits : )
Elwing V: the real reason he was gray - smoke stains
ArPharazonV: haha
ArPharazonV: and then he got some clean new clothes and he was all white again!
VardaValar1: The shortage didn't come on until Saruman entered the Shire with his ruffians.
Eonwe Valar: I think Saruman did take the bulk of the best stuff, so that could be considered a shortage I suppose. Gotta flip through that chapter to find out though.
Eonwe Valar: Saruman tried to make the Shire his own little corner of Mordor.
Eonwe Valar: Any more on the Ring's temptation to people?
Eonwe Valar: If not, we'll call it here.
VardaValar1: Sorry, got side-tracked. :-(
VardaValar1: Ok, thanks for coming everyone!
VardaValar1: Namarie!
ArPharazonV: did Aragorn get tempted by the Ring in any way?
ArPharazonV: or the rest of the Fellowship?
Elwing V: I dont recall Gimli having any problems
ArPharazonV: nor Legolas...
Elwing V: unless maybe them at each other at first was partly due to ring
VardaValar1: JRRT seemed to leave out a lot of the personal thoughts of Fellowship members
Eonwe Valar: All of them were likely tempted by the Ring.
ArPharazonV: well, Dwarves were by nature resilient to the corrupting effects of the Rings
Elwing V: but they foiled it well if that was the case
ArPharazonV: although I assume the One Ring would have been a little bit more powerful
VardaValar1: I wish JRRT had mentioned how each coped with its influence, why they were Fellowship members
Eonwe Valar: Aragorn could've taken the Ring and gathered an army against Sauron that may have cowed his forces like Pharazon the Golden's army.
VardaValar1: Faramir was supposed to have been in Boromir's place, making a weak spot in the group.
ArPharazonV: yeah, that was one of my better achievements *cough*
VardaValar1: ;-)
Elwing V: Faramir actually turned out tougher
Eonwe Valar: Aside from knowing better, though, Aragorn knew that if he did take the Ring, Arwen wouldn't have anything to do with him.
Eonwe Valar: Elrond certainly would not have blessed any union between a Dark Lord and his daughter.
VardaValar1: Elrond would not have been given a choice
VardaValar1: I meant Boromir made a weak spot in the group, as he was not the first choice of the Valar.
ArPharazonV: give Arwen the Ring, see what happens?
Eonwe Valar: I recall a certain Elven daughter *cough* Luthien *cough* that was locked by her father in a tall tower or tree or something (Probably in BoLT since it's a fuzzy memory), so Elrond had options :}
ArPharazonV: a tree! with 3 trunks
ArPharazonV: ok, gonna be a little absent, see if I can get a new post together for the RP
ArPharazonV: I'll still try to keep up with the chat, though
Eonwe Valar: Was getting ready to put one up myself, Phar :}
ArPharazonV: yeah, I heard
ArPharazonV: wanna go first? ;-)
Eonwe Valar: We'll see who gets theirs in before the other :} Think that ought to be fair :}
VardaValar1: Go for it! : )
Eonwe Valar: I suppose we can move into After-meeting now for those who want to split :}
Eonwe Valar: *bangs gavel*
ArPharazonV: wouldn't be so fun if they heavily contradict each other :-)
VardaValar1: Mine's already in. *whistles innocently*
Eonwe Valar: Meeting Adjourned, After meeting begins :}
FinduilasV: lool I am trying to follow here chatting with a friend in NC and miss gavel banger hehe
VardaValar1: As long as you don't get your finger under the gavel, you're ok.
FinduilasV: ;
ArPharazonV: ouch
VardaValar1: Plus Finduilas was helping me out on the links on our pages. : )
Eonwe Valar: Don't come up to the judge's stand and put your hands on his desk :} Easiest way to not get hit with a gavel (unless it flies out of the judge's hand, then duck!)
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: High agility, no problem.
Eonwe Valar: I'm going to have to reread the entire RP at some point.
VardaValar1: good idea : )
ArPharazonV: we don't ride into Erebor on our horses, right?
ArPharazonV: through the gate, that is?
FinduilasV: ;Eonwes post takes us down already into Erebor .. so ye leave the horses up there
Elwing V: "epic" horses - jump the gate :-)
FinduilasV: rather ye
FinduilasV: Frali guides ye down
ArPharazonV: ok, I'll leave mine outside the gate :-)
Eonwe Valar: There are probably stables of some sort near the gate.
Elwing V: speaking of horses, are there truly "elven" horses or is that just a fanfic invention? (unfortunately I do get them confused sometimes)
Eonwe Valar: But I imagined a pretty large gate anyway :}
Eonwe Valar: Aye, Asfaloth is called an "elf-horse"
Eonwe Valar: but that doesn't mean they are horses with Elf-blood.
Eonwe Valar: Just to make that clear.
Elwing V: I take it they had a special connection with elves though
ArPharazonV: well, they didn't use Nightsabers, I can tell you that ;-)
Eonwe Valar: I recall from somewhere that animals were brought with the Noldor when they came from Aman. I tend to assume that's where these "elf-horses" come from.
Eonwe Valar: Of course, my memory could be totally off on that particular matter as well.
ArPharazonV: no, I recall it too... horses, and dogs like Huan
Elwing V: I'm wondering if the elf-horses and Rohan ones were same/similar, since Rohan prided themselves on theirs and they (horses) seemed exceptional
Eonwe Valar: But it seems logical that some animals would be brought to help carry food and supplies.
ArPharazonV: probably from those Orome bred in his forests?
VardaValar1: Nahar seemed to be the first horse and understood speech
VardaValar1: The next ones would likely have that ability too, at least somewhat
ArPharazonV: makes sense, Elwing... after all, the ancestors of the Rohirrim got their horses from the North
Eonwe Valar: The horses ridden by the Rohirric royal family were mearas, and they were a special breed indeed.
ArPharazonV: mearas came from the north, right?
ArPharazonV: perhaps some branch of the Elven horses, indeed
Elwing V: Obviously there were lesser types, to provide ponies such as Bill (good as he was )
VardaValar1: Perhaps descendents of Nahar bred with horses natural to Middle-earth?
ArPharazonV: hmm.... what did Dwarves use as means of transportation? I don't see them riding horses all the time
Eonwe Valar: That seemed to be the trend: Those who had been exposed to Valinor were stronger, healthier, taller, more powerful.
Elwing V: not often at all, if Gimli has anything to say about it!
Eonwe Valar: Gimli didn't seem to like horses at all.
Eonwe Valar: Seems Dwarves preferred walking.
Elwing V: staying close to the ground :-)
VardaValar1: Hobbits needed ponies. Men needed larger horses. Elves had access to those with special abilities as they liked to talk to everything.
Eonwe Valar: They used pack-animals, but I don't recall Thorin riding anything off the top of my head.
VardaValar1: Dwarves underground might have rigged mining cart affairs with up and down pushing thingys and run on rails?
Eonwe Valar: Here, I've got an idea that I'll do just for you: I'll check the Dwarf info in Peoples of MIddle Earth (HoME vol 12) :}
VardaValar1: Dwarves seemed to walk above ground
Elwing V: probably even just rode in special wagon for ceremonies and such
VardaValar1: In the Hobbit, Thorin and his folk came to Bilbo
Elwing V: no calvary for them
Elwing V: dwarfs that is
ArPharazonV: ok, so these "stables" outside the Gate would be used for visitors and traders, and not the Dwarves themselves
VardaValar1: Were they on ponies? or afoot?
Elwing V: cavalry
ArPharazonV: that's what I wanted to have clear
Elwing V: (hee) stable the dwarf - give him some oats and fresh hay :-)
ArPharazonV: you know what I meant ;-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Elwing V: yea, but my image is sillier :-)
Eonwe Valar: Assuming that particular stable was just for beasts used for travel, probably nothign else was there, no.
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: can't argue with that
VardaValar1: I keep seeing new names on the forum
ArPharazonV: ok, how about this:
ArPharazonV: Dwarves were not known for riding horses, but the traders and visitors coming to Erebor did,
ArPharazonV: and so the Dwarves had constructed stables outside their mountain to harbour the steeds of those who did not desire walking from Dale, or leaving them in the occasional rain.
Elwing V: sounds quite plausible
FinduilasV: Ok my dear friends and fellow travellers
FinduilasV: I am afraid tis time to go ..
ArPharazonV: Namarie Finduilas! May your journeys take you.. wherever you want to go, I guess
VardaValar1: You should try to find the elusive nap before the new workday, Finduilas : )
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well Finduilas. Take care.
VardaValar1: thanks for hanging out with us : )
FinduilasV: The road goes ever on and on :-)
FinduilasV: away from the door where it began
ArPharazonV: now far ahead the road has gone
ArPharazonV: and I must follow if I can!
FinduilasV: L)
FinduilasV: Fare well, and may the Valar keep ye safely\
FinduilasV: Namrie!
Elwing V: Namarie
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
VardaValar1: We'll certainly try : )
FinduilasV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Thorin's group had ponies
VardaValar1: It could be the size of a full-sized horse upset Gimli more than anything else.
Eonwe Valar: Ok, so maybe they did ride some when needed.
Elwing V: and an elf driver :-)
VardaValar1: Of course Thorin was an important dwarf with a long way to travel.
ArPharazonV: hmm... so I'll need to revise my statement?
VardaValar1: heeh
VardaValar1: No
Eonwe Valar: Oh, HoME vol 12 gives the names of all 7 Dwarf-houses.
ArPharazonV: the Indrafangs!
VardaValar1: You made it neatly rigged so that it was vague
ArPharazonV: *grin* allright
Eonwe Valar: The race of Durin was the "Longbeards."
VardaValar1: I think I now have all but the last two volumes of HoMe, the most needed save for the Etymologies
Eonwe Valar: Firebeards, Brouadbeams, Ironfists, Stiffbeards, Bloacklocks, and Stonefoots.
Eonwe Valar: Relationsship between Dwarves and Men:
Eonwe Valar: "Thus there grew up in those regions the economy, later characteristic of the dealing of Dwarves Aand Men(including Hobbits):
ArPharazonV: bleh, been playing too much WoW... whenever I think of the King under the Mountain, Magni Bronzebeard comes to mind...
Elwing V: funny how things run together :-)
Eonwe Valar: Men became the chif providers of food, as herrdsmen, shepherds, and landtillers, which the Dwarves exchanges for work as builders, roadmakers, miners, and the makers of theings of craft, from useful tools to wapons and arms and many
Eonwe Valar: other things of great cost and skill."
Elwing V: possibly also kept/bred the ponies Dwarfs used - tho ponies might fit in places under mountain/hill, they would need open pastures to graze and run to keep fit
Eonwe Valar: "To the great profit of the Dwarves. Not only to be reckoned in hours of labour, though in early times the Dwarves must have obtained goods that were the product of greater and longer toil than the things or services
VardaValar1: Maybe those little valleys in the bowls that occur in mountains?
Eonwe Valar: that they gave in echange - before Men became wiser and developed skills of their own.
Elwing V: self enclosed pasture, maybe more free of predators
Eonwe Valar: The chief advantage to them was their freedom to proceed unhindered with their own work and to refine their arts, especially in metallurgy,
Eonwe Valar: to the marvelous skill which these reached before the decline and dwindling of the Khazad."
Eonwe Valar: Seems the Longbeards (Durin's folk) considered the Iron Hills, the Ered Mithrin, and the east dales of the Misty Mountains as their land."
Eonwe Valar: "For reasons which neither Elves nor Men ever fully understood they would not reveal any personal names to people of other kin,..
Eonwe Valar: nor later when they had aquired the arts of writing allow them ever to be carved or written.... This custom endured among the Longbeards into the Fourth Age and beyond the view of these histories."
Eonwe Valar: Ok, that seems to be all I can find on the matter of Dwarves and livestock.
VardaValar1: Except for the Hobbit : )
Eonwe Valar: Aye :}
Eonwe Valar: I just meant in that particular book :} It then goes into info about the Atani, and that's not going to help us deal with Naugrim :}
Eonwe Valar: Though, it mentions Mount Gundabad as the awakening place of Durin.
Eonwe Valar: The orcs had taken Gundabad, and their occupation of that place, a place revered by all Dwarves, was a reason for the deep hatred Dwarves have for orcs.
VardaValar1: Our After-meeting seems to have a lot of Tolkien. yay us!
ArPharazonV: hehe
Eonwe Valar: We're just lucky that way :}
VardaValar1: Ahh, that's interesting
VardaValar1: At least elves didn't take their sacred place away.
Eonwe Valar: Remnants of the House of Hador who didn't pass into Beleriand seem to be the group of Men Dwarves first began to work with.
Elwing V: everybody hates Orcs - even other orcs
VardaValar1: True
Eonwe Valar: I'm going to guess these were the "Northmen" who would later become Rohirrim, since there is talk of "tamin of beasts," riding as scouts and archers on horseback.
Eonwe Valar: *taming
Eonwe Valar: Yeah, but hatred seems less intense when you hate everything.
VardaValar1: Normal state for them
Eonwe Valar: After a while it's just "Yeah, we get it, you hate us, and them , and that, and those, and these,..."
VardaValar1: The nearest thing to a family for them is Sauron taking care of them all.
Eonwe Valar: Dwarves actually cared for stuff.
Eonwe Valar: Orcs hated Sauron too :}
VardaValar1: Dwarves had families. That seems to be the root of caring.
VardaValar1: Aye, hated him but feared and obeyed him. He gave them their only stability. Yet they'd rather go out and form small bandit groups. : )
VardaValar1: Orcs didn't seem to have families.
VardaValar1: afk
ArPharazonV: indeed, they did not... as far as we know, they cared not for bloodlines.... is it even known how they were reproduced? if what the movies would have us believe were true, they were anonimously created out of.. mud?
VardaValar1: heh, we have 151 mostly lurkers on our forum.
ArPharazonV: *was true
VardaValar1: The movies were quite wrong.
ArPharazonV: yes, that's what I figured, but still
VardaValar1: The books say they were created after the manner of Arda.
Elwing V: Orcs seemed to stick together only if it served them at the time, but they would turn on each other if they had no one else to fight
VardaValar1: They were originally corrupted elves but then bred true.
VardaValar1: Then Saruman outcrossed them
Elwing V: I could easier see them being bred by "sorcerous" means with some body parts or blood used as catalysts...
VardaValar1: It's fun making up our own stuff. : )
VardaValar1: Some were outcrossed with men so much that they could pass for odd humans, like Bill Ferny's acquaintance.
Elwing V: I can't see a female orc having the "mothering" instincts to carry a baby to term and then nurse it (can't see anyone else bottlefeeding it either - this on assumption an orc baby is as ill tempered as parents)
VardaValar1: I can see them raised in a sort of creche
VardaValar1: Some orcs would take care of them rather as stablehands might.
Eonwe Valar: half-orcs and orc-men.
Elwing V: imagine the problems of getting orc children to adulthood - I would supposed they would be of better survice to their masters if they came fully developed (what passes for that in orcs)
Eonwe Valar: Or the Fighting Uruk Hai.
VardaValar1: The orcs would surely have been pressed into service of various kinds quite early. Think child labor.
VardaValar1: Elf children developed motor skills earlier than humans did, so orcs probably did too
Elwing V: Saruman just gets sicker and sicker... :P
VardaValar1: Elves grew slowly is all
VardaValar1: Elves would be 50 to 100 before they were fully grown.
Eonwe Valar: Saruman let the Uruk Hai have human flesh to eat. I think that about says it all.
VardaValar1: No argument, Eonwe.
ArPharazonV: ok, I wrote my post
Eonwe Valar: But if more must be said, serving Sauron, deforestation, killing Ents, lying to the White Council, harassing Hobbits, weakening Rohan, turnign Theoden against Eomer,... :}
VardaValar1: Ants take different duties according to age, and I suspect orcs would need an arrangement like that.
ArPharazonV: I don't feel like it's of the quality of some of my earlier posts, but I've been out of the loop to long... I hope it's better next time ;-)
ArPharazonV: *too
VardaValar1: Thanks for posting Pharazon, and feel free to practice posting more! ;-)
Eonwe Valar: hehe
ArPharazonV: heheh, I will, for sure!
VardaValar1: Now reading!
VardaValar1: Poke Menelvagor for us to post too. ;-)
VardaValar1: ohh, nice post, Phar!
Elwing V: So Saruman might have been working on creating that massive army for who-knows-how-long using "typical" breeding and raising, rather than some spell that would have created many full grown in ... weeks, months maybe?
ArPharazonV: hmm.... my avatar seems to have vanished
ArPharazonV: I'll need to get a new one
VardaValar1: but I thought we decided dwarves did have some ponies at least?
ArPharazonV: we might have, but you told me not to change the sentence :-)
VardaValar1: You're right. The link seems broken
Elwing V: I guess that seems more possible if he started way back when Bilbo first found ring or abouts...and since orcs have long span like elves (if they dont kill each other!)...
VardaValar1: okies
ArPharazonV: oh, I get it
ArPharazonV: it seems I linked it to my avatar on our WoW-guild-forum
ArPharazonV: but since I changed that one recently..
ArPharazonV: it went poof?
VardaValar1: JRRT tended to put lots of time in a bunch of slots, so the baddies had time to build up.
Elwing V: just somehow the thought of gathering the orc family together for a portrait to send the friends in the Xmas newsletter doesn't work in my head :-)
VardaValar1: Thus our heroes aren't racing right out the door at the first sign of a problem.
VardaValar1: It would not happen, Elwing, right! : )
VardaValar1: I need to go see what needs killed and eaten for our own kitchen, so I'll be afk. : )
VardaValar1: Merry was on our Uldaman server, by the way folks. In the 30's I believe, if any want to join him
VardaValar1: Eowyn's newest gnome is running on Lothar.
VardaValar1: afk
Elwing V: I think I shall go play awhile...this has been fun! Namarie to all
Elwing V has left the room.
ArPharazonV: so, I need to change the stables-thing?
ArPharazonV: ok, I modified it to:
ArPharazonV: Dwarves, while on rare times making use of small ponies, were not known for riding the larger horses, but the traders and visitors coming to Erebor did,
ArPharazonV: and so the Dwarves had enlarged the stables outside their mountain to harbour the steeds of those who did not desire walking from Dale, or leaving them in the occasional rain.
ArPharazonV: is that better?
Orodreth V has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Pardon, still working on my post to make sure I've got it how I want it worded.
Eonwe Valar: Heya Orodreth.
ArPharazonV: Aiya Orodreth
Eonwe Valar: That sounds fine to me, Phar.
ArPharazonV: ok
ArPharazonV: I'll keep it like that then
ArPharazonV: be sure to read my post before writing your own, though! ;-)
Eonwe Valar: I just looked over it :}
VardaValar1: dropped back in, heya Orodreth :-)
VardaValar1: I had a thought. Elrond would have felt badly because his three children did not go with him on the ship to Valinor
VardaValar1: but
VardaValar1: he would meet Celebrian there and could have lots more children. : )
ArPharazonV: haha
VardaValar1: First time I've felt better about that. : )
VardaValar1: Back to the kitchen, pork chops about done. : )
ArPharazonV: theoretically, children would be more attached to their parents than the other way around
ArPharazonV: for parents can have as many children as they want
ArPharazonV: but a child can only have 2 parents ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Well, in theory they could've had more children.
Eonwe Valar: But most elven children are had in the time relatively close to the marriage of two Elves.
Eonwe Valar: After that, it seems the married couple are off doing their own thing most of the time.
Eonwe Valar: Not to burst your bubble :}
ArPharazonV: with an ocean of distance between them at times..
ArPharazonV: the sheer joy of being reunited could put enough spirit in them again to have more kiddies
ArPharazonV: after all, if they don't actually physically age...
ArPharazonV: never too old to have children
Eonwe Valar: Aye, just going by Laws and Customs :}
ArPharazonV: of course, but there's always room for imagination :-)
Eonwe Valar: Sounds like the reunion of Celebrian and Elrond needs to be made a story for the Guild's story page :}
Eonwe Valar: Valentine's Day is a bit far off, but two lovers meeting again is good any time of year :}
VardaValar1: Sounds good, Eonwe :-)
VardaValar1: but I notice the story doesn't seem to stick all that well to the idea of marrying at 100 or having all the children shortly after.
Eonwe Valar: Oh, I get the feeling I just got volunteered for my own suggestion? :}
VardaValar1: Arwen was born 111 years after Elladan and Elrohir for instance.
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Not necessarily, but it's a good suggestion.
Eonwe Valar: Well, a couple hundred years is "shortly after" for Elves.
VardaValar1: People didn't seem interested in the writing challenges so I took them down.
Eonwe Valar: As for marrying late, there are Elves with special fates.
Orodreth V has left the room.
VardaValar1: T.A. 109 Elrond and Celebrian marry
Orodreth V has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Welcome back
VardaValar1: T.A. 130 Birth of Elladan and Elrohir
VardaValar1: T.A. 241 Birth of Arwen
VardaValar1: Less than 30 years to the twins, but 111 to Arwen.
VardaValar1: Guess twins were a bit much to handle. : )
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: Children are more attached to their children than the other way around? Seems hard to imagine
VardaValar1: The kids seem so eager to leave. : )
Eonwe Valar: :}
ArPharazonV: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Means the parents did their job right :}
ArPharazonV: or the parents are eager to kick them out and have the house to themselves ;-)
VardaValar1: I don't know. The kids just start getting good at helping around with mowing the lawn and cooking. ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, I recall something about Dwarven Beer being pretty potent. Anyone remember anything similar?
VardaValar1: I would expect it to be so, as Dwarves had powerful constitutions.
VardaValar1: I'm expecting my young character to have some problems with it. : )
Eonwe Valar: Trying to make sure I'm not mixing WoW with Tolkien here.
ArPharazonV: well, I only took a small sip so far
ArPharazonV: also, don't mix it with the movies, Legolas vs Gimli
VardaValar1: Tastes sour to me. : )
VardaValar1: Legolas also drank Dorwinion wine at the royal table with Thranduil.
VardaValar1: Might be like French growing up on wine since the water was unsafe.
Eonwe Valar: Oh, I know not to mix it with the movies :}
VardaValar1: Being a royal meant he was used to the good stuff, book-verse.
top

After-meeting:
ArPharazonV: I just have to be careful not to mix Calion with Calaron
ArPharazonV: seeing as Calaron's my main WoW-character as well
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Fainan is my main WoW character too : ) A hunter elf girl, at that.
ArPharazonV: I'll try to level my hunter-girl called Caliona soon, Calaron's twin-sister, rp-wise
ArPharazonV: her, I based on Calion
ArPharazonV: including the wolf-pet!
VardaValar1: but a "her"?
VardaValar1: Twin fun.
ArPharazonV: eh, wasn't too keen on 2 elven males, besides, wanted a 4-4 balance with males and females
ArPharazonV: aye, twin
VardaValar1: If your Calion rp guy starts swapping discussions with me on outfits, I'll know what happened.
ArPharazonV: haha
VardaValar1: I should try running a male character sometime in WoW? : )
ArPharazonV: well, Caliona got lost in the woods when she was 7
VardaValar1: Some elf!
ArPharazonV: and ended up being raised by furbolgs :-)
VardaValar1: hoo boy. Maybe the one on cliff near Mathystra Lake in Ashenvale?
ArPharazonV: nope, felwood, the Deadwood furbolgs... unfortunately they went a little crazy after the corruption spread through Felwood
ArPharazonV: so she had to flee for her life
VardaValar1: That works.
VardaValar1: Did the Winterfalls take her in?
ArPharazonV: actually, she plunged into a river during her escape, and washed up on an island off of Darkshore where she remained for a few years
ArPharazonV: after that, she went looking for Calaron
ArPharazonV: and ended up in Shadowglen, as he once had ;-)
Eonwe Valar: An island off of Darkshore.. Perhaps this island had a very big tree? :}
ArPharazonV: nope, not that one
VardaValar1: :-)
ArPharazonV: only arrived on Teldrassil after spending some time looking for her brother in Ashenvale
ArPharazonV: since Astranaar was their place of birth
VardaValar1: And we know how big Ashenvale is.
ArPharazonV: (I also have a story in the make that sets down Calaron and Caliona's family as founders and heirs of Astranaar, but that's perhaps a bit too.... overdone)
VardaValar1: Menelvagor says he'll check out the rp : )
ArPharazonV: ok
ArPharazonV: Waking up, she found herself on an island, off of the coast from Darkshore. And there she remained for a few years, recovering part of her strength, for her wounds took longer to heal than she was used too. And she wondered at that.
ArPharazonV: After recovering, Caliona made contact with Elven civilization once more.
ArPharazonV: She found the World-tree destroyed, Ashenvale ruined, and her parents dead. Her brother Calaron had taken to a low profile, and most rumors of him ended with Archimonde's death.
ArPharazonV: that's literally from the biography
ArPharazonV: Calaron himself had, in that time, retired to Teldrassil, where he honed his powers, much of it lost after the World-tree's destruction
ArPharazonV: most of my characters are either young, or recently recovering from grievous wounds/loss of power
ArPharazonV: to compensate for their "incompetence" at lvl 1 :-)
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya : )
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya Menel!
ArPharazonV: where were you? I invited you at the beginning of the meeting, sought contact in IM... you didn't respond!
Eonwe Valar: Heya Menel
Menelvagor Valar: I was downstairs playing Jade Empire, I completely forgot :(
Eonwe Valar: Shame :}
Eonwe Valar: But I've tried a Jade Empire demo, so I'm sure you were having fun :}
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: Guess we'll understand then. : )
VardaValar1: Menel, did you ever get to read Finduilas' post in the rp? She jumped in with us and is watching for our reaction. : )
Menelvagor Valar: reading as we chat :)
VardaValar1: Can you believe we had 44 users online at our forum at once?
VardaValar1: July 28, it says.
ArPharazonV: oh, that's 2 days ago
Menelvagor Valar: 1 Pharzie :)
Menelvagor Valar: unless you count European time, which you should not when in here :-D
ArPharazonV: no, 2 :-)
ArPharazonV: if I could European time it's 3 :-)
Menelvagor Valar: ah yes ...
ArPharazonV: *count
Menelvagor Valar: I'm a bit mixed up on dates and days lately.
Menelvagor Valar: 2 days ago I would have sworn it was thursday :-P
VardaValar1: Mainly it was very recent.
VardaValar1: I was still being amazed at the previous 43 account.
VardaValar1: Suppose we're getting LotRO people in here?
ArPharazonV: could be
VardaValar1: We really need to play with our Tolkien stuff more on the Forum
VardaValar1: Guess we tend to get it out of our system in chat. : )
VardaValar1: Quicker feedback ;-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: I pretty well quit posting our topics on the Forum since no one picked up on them.
VardaValar1: But they can be picked up at any time. They never get old. : )
Eonwe Valar: Eh, I posted mine.
Eonwe Valar: I'll pick up inside Dain's throneroom in my next post.
VardaValar1: Yay!
VardaValar1: I was looking at the Trivia thread. It never had a new question put up.
Eonwe Valar: I'm not completely satisfied, but I think the post will do.
Eonwe Valar: It never had an answer to the last one so far as I know.
Eonwe Valar: No reason to put a new question if no one's going to bother answering.
Eonwe Valar: To me anyway.
ArPharazonV: so, Fainan... are we drunk on our next posts? ;-)
Eonwe Valar: In front of a king? Shame on you two if you are :}
Eonwe Valar: Seriously, I did make a comment about you two not realizing the potency of Dwarven Beer, so use how you will :}
ArPharazonV: yes, I read :-)
Eonwe Valar: Seems to fit with both yof your posts :}
ArPharazonV: that's why I asked!
Eonwe Valar: It would be like Calion to go and get drunk just to spite Auros :}
Eonwe Valar: (I kid :})
ArPharazonV: if you shee 2 Dwarvish kingsh, talk to the left one! ...hic!
Eonwe Valar: if you see 3, talk to the right one? :}
ArPharazonV: talk to the middle one then, I shupposhe
Eonwe Valar: You know, some of my favorite posts in the RP so far are not the battle scenes, but the interaction between our characters.
Eonwe Valar: But you probably do know that already :}
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: I just had to add a wee bit more.
ArPharazonV: aww
ArPharazonV: coward... I'm so going to drink all my beer and be 'slightly affected' over time
VardaValar1: lol
VardaValar1: That should be a hoot!
Eonwe Valar: Always making things tough on Auros. Shame :}
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: like walking around and slowly notice a tingling feeling in my fingers
ArPharazonV: or suddenly not walking as straight as I'd hoped
VardaValar1: How big are you next to Fainan? Will she have trouble steadying you? :-)
ArPharazonV: it'sh the little things, you know...
VardaValar1: so right!
Eonwe Valar: "They're called fingers, but they don't fing. Noodle that one."
ArPharazonV: hehe
Eonwe Valar: One of my favoirte quotes from "The Critic" :}
Eonwe Valar: favorite even
VardaValar1: Little dwarf people. If that one ever figures out I thought it was cute...!
VardaValar1: Noodler?
Eonwe Valar: I considered commenting on noticing your sudden worry you had guessed the wrong gender :}
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: but yes, tipsy Calion should be a hoot
Eonwe Valar: Couldn't quite work it in there and make it seem right, though, so I had to toss it :}
VardaValar1: What if that dwarf is too polite to correct us on the gender thing!
VardaValar1: Nice that you thought about it. ;-)
Eonwe Valar: At least you guessed right though :} Finduilas is playing a "he" :}
VardaValar1: Poor Auros. One party member is tipsy, the other is afraid of their food and drink.
ArPharazonV: I considered putting something in like that for me too, but I started to feel like I was repeating your post too much
VardaValar1: I know. But Fainan doesn't. ;-)
VardaValar1: We can all come up with our own nutty bits, np. : )
VardaValar1: I wonder if the dwarves have some version of coffee we can try to stuff down you?
ArPharazonV: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Also considered in referring to Frali that Auros did what he always did when he wasn't sure: he just didn't use gender-specific titles :}
VardaValar1: Good plan : )
Eonwe Valar: The wise thing to do :}
Eonwe Valar: He sounds respectful and doesn't look like afool :}
VardaValar1: Fainan is not so wise, just good-hearted and cheerful, likes people, so she tends to get away with a good bit. ;-)
Eonwe Valar: But again, couldn't quite get it to sound and feel right :}
Eonwe Valar: hehe :}
ArPharazonV: I suppose Calion's not that trusting, but eager to learn of other cultures anyway
ArPharazonV: been a long time since his duties saw him leave Mirkwood
VardaValar1: Fainan needs to bump her head a few times to learn to be less trusting.
VardaValar1: Dwarf beer being a small bump. ;-)
ArPharazonV: hehe
Eonwe Valar: :}
Menelvagor Valar: replied :)
VardaValar1: woohoo! Checking it out
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Will look as soon as I'm done rereading Auros and Calion's little confrontation when Haran came stumbling out of the woods :}
Menelvagor Valar: made an interesting end to the post :)
ArPharazonV: 4 posts in 2 hours... a record?
Menelvagor Valar: you see what you do with it :)
Menelvagor Valar: perhaps Phar, but doesn't surprise me at meeting time :)
VardaValar1: A cave without water is not good for the spirit. Sounds quotable!
Menelvagor Valar: hehe :)
Menelvagor Valar: thanks :-P
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: lol
VardaValar1: Another drinking problem, coughing. Good one
Eonwe Valar: Ooh, rereading this gave me a great line to use in a post as we leave Erebor.
VardaValar1: Keep it in mind!
VardaValar1: Too bad Finduilas had to leave. She'd love to jump into this!
ArPharazonV: I'm sure she would
ArPharazonV: I'll be sure to remind her if she hasn't replied by the next time I see her in WoW
Eonwe Valar: A shame Gel can't make it to meetings. He's been wanting to get in on the RP too.
LuthienV has left the room.
VardaValar1: tum te tum. Posted again. ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: I think coughing is more like a side-effect of drinking a lot of unknown stuff at once ;-)
VardaValar1: Aye
ArPharazonV: I think I'll make one too
VardaValar1: It's contagious!
Eonwe Valar: Oh my, everyone getting in 2 posts tonight? :}
VardaValar1: When possible
VardaValar1: The best way to do this kind of thing is with the group together able to interact. This is perfect. :-)
Eonwe Valar: Aye Z:}
Eonwe Valar: :} even :}
VardaValar1: The fumes might have gotten you too.
VardaValar1: Ayes :-)
Eonwe Valar: Poor Fainan :}
VardaValar1: And you guys are fun!
Eonwe Valar: One sip and she's done :}
VardaValar1: Lucky for the pot plant that it wasn't there!
VardaValar1: You bet!
VardaValar1: Poor you guys, drinking the whole stein!
Eonwe Valar: I declined :} Auros wants to keep a clear head with all the thinking he's got to do :}
VardaValar1: Someone needs to be able to!
VardaValar1: Fainan's becoming a bit flustered.
Eonwe Valar: Ah, just looked at the trivia. It wasn't that it didn't get an answer, it was it didn't get an affirmative for the answer :}
VardaValar1: Estarion is kinda fun. He seems so stiff and reserved being with all these strangers, plus culture shock and trying to be wary, and get help for his people.
VardaValar1: He's in so much trouble being with us. ;-)
VardaValar1: and now he may have a sore throat!
Menelvagor Valar: hehe :)
Eonwe Valar: :}
ArPharazonV: ok, my post is made :-)
VardaValar1: wheee
Eonwe Valar: Loading now :}
ArPharazonV: I was this close to asking for Auros' mug...
Eonwe Valar: Up to page 5 on this one now :}
Eonwe Valar: Fainan snuck a third post in there :}
VardaValar1: Ohh, nice foreshadowing!
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: That was funny, Phar!
Eonwe Valar: lol, breath air, drink liquid :}
VardaValar1: ;-)
ArPharazonV: ok, now I'm starting to feel giddy myself, but I really must be heading off to bed
ArPharazonV: it's pretty late here
VardaValar1: Or early?
ArPharazonV: hehe
VardaValar1: We did good tonight
VardaValar1: People will enjoy reading this. : )
Eonwe Valar: Nice post :}
VardaValar1: Sleep well!
Eonwe Valar: sleep well Phar :}
ArPharazonV: thanks, I'll be saving
VardaValar1: Good job on that last post, Phar!
VardaValar1: Thanks
Eonwe Valar: I think we'll be in the throneroom by Wednesday :}
ArPharazonV: ok, it's saved
VardaValar1: Thanks again
VardaValar1: Sweet dreams from Irmo to you!
ArPharazonV: and sent
ArPharazonV: see you next week, or on the forum ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Both most likely :}
VardaValar1: Sounds good!
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
VardaValar1: If we can walk straight, Auros!
ArPharazonV has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar: made another post ;-)
VardaValar1: checking it out : )
Eonwe Valar: You all are just trying to make me read tonight :}
Eonwe Valar: Amusing post :}
VardaValar1: lol - o good one!
Menelvagor Valar: and made a minor correction in the first one: Calaron -> Calion
Eonwe Valar: or should I say */me beard slightly moves* :}
Menelvagor Valar: You do not have a beard, oh wise one :-P
Eonwe Valar: :}
Menelvagor Valar: it will be fun to see the reactions of the others on this one :-D
Eonwe Valar: bet we come back to 100 users on at once tomorrow :}
VardaValar1: posted ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: but right now, I have to go to bed, it has been way too late the past few days, with the kids of my sister waking me up early, so I am pretty much wasted.
Menelvagor Valar: and not at all on beer :-P
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well Menel :}
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: It's enough!
VardaValar1: We have Auros all set up now. We've done our duty! ;-)
VardaValar1: Good night, Menelvagor! :-)
Menelvagor Valar: aye.
Eonwe Valar: I'm going to be the only one walking in straight :}
VardaValar1: hehe
Menelvagor Valar: I can imagine Auros talking sternly to Estarion :D
Eonwe Valar: Everyone else is going to be watching trails left as they move their hands around in front of their eyes :}
VardaValar1: This is from Arwen's site, just now:
VardaValar1: http://www.bluegoof.com/images/ring.png
Menelvagor Valar: yes, I might do a bit of swaggering :)
VardaValar1: bowing the wrong direction
Menelvagor Valar: hehe.
Eonwe Valar: hehe, funny pic
Menelvagor Valar: would be a good addition to the image site :)
Menelvagor Valar: if it can be enlarged a little.
VardaValar1: That would help
Menelvagor Valar: Anyways, time for bed.
Eonwe Valar: For the Tolkien in a Lighter Vein page?
VardaValar1: She says it's an avatar
Menelvagor Valar: Namarie.
VardaValar1: from a forum
Menelvagor Valar: aye Eonwe.
Eonwe Valar: As in it would be good for
VardaValar1: Reason it's small
Eonwe Valar: ah, so she didn't do it herself?
Menelvagor Valar: might ask her to ask the person who it's from to enlarge it then.
VardaValar1: She said she did that so I could see it. :-)
Eonwe Valar: Ah ok :}
Menelvagor Valar: Nighty night.
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well Menel :}
Menelvagor Valar has left the room.
VardaValar1: She said she'd try to find out
VardaValar1: http://forums.nexuswar.com/viewtopic.php?t =2674
Eonwe Valar: Afk for a sec. Seems like this is the time to escape for anyone who wants to.
VardaValar1: I think I'd better
VardaValar1: I'm taking advantage of the last half hour Elwing will be at my house :-)
VardaValar1: Namarie!
