VardaValar1: Membership
News:
VardaValar1: Elatan-(Valar) has decided that
since all our planned games got nasty and refused to allow Europe and
the Americas to play together,
VardaValar1: he's switching to Tolkien-only membership.
VardaValar1: His Annals of Arda and other Tolkien work will remain as
usual.
VardaValar1: His other pages are staying up a month, and by then are
expected to be replaced.
VardaValar1: Any other member news?
top
VardaValar1: Web
News:
VardaValar1: I am currently replacing those pages by streamlining a
batch of member
pages to put most of the info in one place.
VardaValar1: I'm hoping this will be easier for the membership.
VardaValar1: You can see everyone at once and what we are all up to,
more or less. : )
Oessala has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Orodreth's doppelganger. : )
VardaValar1: Here's the new page, as far as I got before meeting time:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/guild/members.htm
VardaValar1: I'll need your help to make sure your information is
correct.
VardaValar1: Those who want to join as Tolkien-onlies still need to
send in something for the Tolkien site.
VardaValar1: We have a fair-sized group in that category. : )
VardaValar1: Please check your info and tell me what needs repaired or
if it's ok. Side windows are good. I'll try to fix it during the
meeting.
VardaValar1: Regular gaming members please remember you are also needed
to help with the Tolkien site.
VardaValar1: Articles, humor, poetry, stories, book reviews, addendums
are all good. : )
VardaValar1: Ok, got a few answers on the Members page.
MrMonkey2002Blah has left the room.
VardaValar1: sorry
VardaValar1: Long blank time in the chat for all the side windows
VardaValar1: Folks, I also need to know which of you hope to be going into LotRO.
VardaValar1: If you could tell me, I can add it to this page and give
you a holler when we start up.
VardaValar1: Also, let me know if you
prefer an rp or normal server. There's quite a discussion going
about it.
VardaValar1: It's even possible that we may try one then shift to the
other, or even run both at once. I don't think it would cost anything
extra.
VardaValar1: Looking for people who know CSS programming or
a good site for learning it. : )
ArPharazonV: (and that was wipe nr 2.. not sure how much longer I'll be)
FinduilasV: wait, , runboard have a link up for it
VardaValar1: Please put it in the chat, Finduilas
Eonwe Valar: Actually, I have found a good site for most things
wbsite-related.
VardaValar1: There are zillions of sites to tutor. One will be better
for one part and another for another part.
VardaValar1: Which one do you like, Eonwe?
crasyboy45 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: http://www.htmlgoodies.com/
should be the homepage.
Srekal86: heh, thats an old old site, I remember that was big back in
the late 90s
VardaValar1: Ok, Srekal. Do you have a single site you'd like to
recommend?
Eonwe Valar: It does good with HTML and Java, but has info on asp, php,
and alot of other web languages,
Srekal86: VardaValar1: of course different sites for different things,
what level of what language are you interested in?
Srekal86: Beginning CSS, I have a few links for, let me see.
Srekal86: http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/livedesign/
is probably your best bet for a first tutorial.
ArPharazonV: ok, we're calling it a night.. I'll be here full-time in a
few minutes!
Srekal86: here's another: http://www.alistapart.com/topics/code/css/
FinduilasV: ok the link for css is
Srekal86: http://www.csszengarden.com/
is a good site for showing how powerful CSS can be, but the code isn't
that great.
FinduilasV: http://www.w3.org/Style/CSS
Srekal86: that's the official site, pretty good but not the best for a
beginner as its geared towards professionals.
FinduilasV: or http://ww.w3.chools.com
FinduilasV: http://www.w3schools.com
ArPharazonV: ok, I'm here! what are we talking about?
VardaValar1: Welcome back
VardaValar1: Eonwe, are you ready?
VardaValar1: Eonwe's been working on his new Games page programming
ArPharazonV: html tutorial?
Eonwe Valar: Pardon, ready.
VardaValar1: Oh, just now we were talking about ways to program pages
better or make them easier to look at.
VardaValar1: Go ahead, Eonwe. : )
ArPharazonV: hmm, allright
FladrifV: aslong as you use internetexplorer you dont need any coarse
arph ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Srekal86: IE, ick...
ArPharazonV: well, no, but I might have some tutorials in my bookmarks
ArPharazonV: and I use firefox, btw :-)
Srekal86: much better.
FladrifV: thanks to who?
Srekal86: though FF still has its kinks.
ArPharazonV: not sure, probably you
FladrifV: (sorry for interuption)
Eonwe Valar: As you all should know, the Games Page Update ended yesterday,
and today you will get to see the fruits of my labor. I am in the
process of uploaded the new Games Page now :}
Eonwe Valar: With the New Page page,..
Eonwe Valar: You will be able to find
who plays any game we have someone playing (or at least
admitting to playing).
Eonwe Valar: You will also be able to see
if your gaming information isn't yet up by selecting "None" in
the Games selection.
Eonwe Valar: If you answered "none" to the Games Page Update letter,
you'll be under "None" as well.
Eonwe Valar: I decided to integrate the Links pages more fully into the
Games Page, so now the pages Diablo and His Kin, Files of the Xel'Naga,
Sites through the Palantir, and Azeroth and Surround Realms will appear
in the central frame..
Eonwe Valar: and share main background.
Eonwe Valar: I have moved the D2 Experiences Page link to the Game
Revies page.
Eonwe Valar: *Game Reviews
Eonwe Valar: Reviews don't share the primary background, because I
decided a different background against so much text would be better.
Eonwe Valar: You will also find several more reviews on the Reviews
Page, as I have done one for every Tolkien-based game I have ever
played :}
VardaValar1: Ohh, I will be looking at those!
Eonwe Valar: I've separated all reviews into "Computer" and "Console,"
so you can make reviews on Console games as well.
FinduilasV: there are somwe?
FinduilasV: appart form BoME?
Eonwe Valar: Several, Finduilas :}
Eonwe Valar: EA isn't the only, nor necessarily the best, show in town
:}
Eonwe Valar: There are a few even I haven't played, however, so we do
need reviews on those.
FladrifV: luckely there are a few other developers stil left who happen
to be independant....
VardaValar1: May there always be some independents! : )
Eonwe Valar: Such as BFME 2, LotR Tactics for PSP, and LotR:The Third
Age (All by EA inceidentally).
Eonwe Valar: *Incidentally
Eonwe Valar: I have made two access
points for the Games Page.
FladrifV: has ea bought the game rights?
Eonwe Valar: In function, they are no different.
Orodreth V: Don't like to break in, but the final match of the Eve
tourny is about to go up:
Eonwe Valar: index.php uses a nice background image, but at the moment
is best viewable at (read, doesn't look right at all unless you are at)
1280x1024.
Orodreth V: http://www.eve.is/evetv/
VardaValar1: Thanks Oro : )
FladrifV: 1280x1024 outch...:-)
Eonwe Valar: index.htm is what I recommend for anyone not able or not
wanting to run at 1280x1024 screen resolution, or..
Eonwe Valar: if you have dial-up and don't want to wait for the
background images to load. however..
VardaValar1: (Eonwe has dial-up)
ArPharazonV: how does that work, Oro? is it live or something?
Oessala: yes
Eonwe Valar: I've found I only ever have to wait for the images the
first time around. After that, it's stored in my temp internet files
and it loads almost instantly, so it's your call.
FladrifV: 1280x1024 is not 4:3 :-)
ArPharazonV: does it matter what region you pick? or does that just
help with reception?
Oessala: Just helps with speed.
Oessala: They say 10 minutes untilt he match
FinduilasV: sound bugs a bit
FinduilasV: buffers a lot
Eonwe Valar: As I said, in function, there is really no difference
between index.php and index.htm except the background, only preference.
ArPharazonV: cool, my resolution actually is 1280x1024
Eonwe Valar: You will also notice I went rather... Manwëish on the
color scheme :}
Eonwe Valar: Just have one more file I need to upload, and then I can
let you all see it :}
VardaValar1: Nice blues. : )
Oessala: Beginning in moments..
Menelvagor Valar: back.
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, seems to be some technical difficulties. I'll have to
let you see it later in the meeting. My apologies..
FladrifV: Ill have to visit my ent home
FladrifV: namarie to you all
VardaValar1: Namarie!
ArPharazonV: namarie!
Eonwe Valar: Floor's yours again, Varda.
FladrifV: *waves with some branches*
VardaValar1: heh - was uploading
VardaValar1: : )
FinduilasV: Namarie! Fladrif
VardaValar1: I also noticed a drop in the memory use on the server,
Eonwe :-)
VardaValar1: Very welcome change
FladrifV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Ok, think I got it fixed :}
Srekal86: Which script do you use to track memory usage?
VardaValar1: It's on the ftp when we up and download
Srekal86: you mean the transfer rate?
VardaValar1: I'm sure there's a fancier way on Alatar's stuff
VardaValar1: no, I mean it shows us how much of our allocated memory is
being used
Srekal86: oh you mean nonvolatile memory?
VardaValar1: Aye
Srekal86: that's usually referred to as storage space, disk usage, etc,
while memory is used for volatile memory.
VardaValar1: It shows that Eonwe's new system uses less of the amount
of memory we are allowed on Alatar's server.
VardaValar1: ok, less storage. : )
Srekal86: ;-)
Eonwe Valar: The "hi res" Games Page is at www.valarguild.org/gaming
Srekal86: though I won't get into why anything less than few gigabytes
of storage is unheard of :p
Srekal86: eonwe, is that inline frames?
VardaValar1: Nice, Eonwe!
Eonwe Valar: The quicker-load Games Page is at www.valarguild.org/eonwe/index.htm,
or you can just type www.valarguild.org/eonwe
VardaValar1: When the storage is free to us and ad-free, I'm not going
to quibble. : )
Eonwe Valar: The Frames are just frames. I did not use the iframe
command, if that's what you're referring to.
Srekal86: :p they have free web hosts with no ads that offer a gigabyte
or more, even google offers a few gigabytes of email for free.
mecoons has left the room.
FinduilasV: anyone not watching this?
VardaValar1: Anyone not watching what?
FinduilasV: the eve match
VardaValar1: I have gmail
VardaValar1: I'm not watching the eve match : )
Menelvagor Valar: what match?
VardaValar1: Who offers that GB of space with no ads and what's the
catch?
ArPharazonV: I'm watching, it's... interesting, for someone who doesn't
know the game
ArPharazonV: luckily Oro is keeping me up-to-date with a bit of info
Eonwe Valar: So, everyone looking at the new Games Page or something? :}
FinduilasV: hve we got the linke
FinduilasV: ?
Eonwe Valar: I gave both links to you all already :}
Srekal86: scroll up FinduilasV
Eonwe Valar: I recommend veiwing the "hi res" in full screen mode.
Eonwe Valar: *viewing
FinduilasV: ah nice :-)
Eonwe Valar: If your Gaming info isn't listed, it's your own fault :}
Eonwe Valar: Everyone here see their info up? Let me know now if it's
missing.
VardaValar1: Looks as if I need to update my info for you
VardaValar1: Want it in an email?
ArPharazonV: mine seems ok
ArPharazonV: a shame I'm the only one in several games, though
;-) [others are also]
Xseanzee disco has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Phar, I don't see you in D2X : )
VardaValar1: Aiya Gil-galad. : )
ArPharazonV: I don't have D2X :-)
FinduilasV: Aiya Gil Galad
VardaValar1: That could be why. : )
ArPharazonV: I was once going for it, I think... not sure what happend
Eonwe Valar: Wow, just got more updates than I do in a year :}
VardaValar1: good : )
VardaValar1: So far we have one Tolkien topic. Any other possibles out
there?
VardaValar1: We could use one that is mainly LotR so we don't lose some
of our folk also.
VardaValar1: Or maybe all of you have read the Silmarillion : )
FinduilasV: Yeah it would be nice , because i couldn t really take part
last time
FinduilasV: i have but so long ago
FinduilasV: and if ye type not so fast would be nice too ;-)
VardaValar1: Is it lying around the house? You can grab it and use the
index
Menelvagor Valar has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: And I thought I was too slow!
Menelvagor Valar: Sorry, comp couldn't cope with Eve TV and WoW at the
same time :P
Eonwe Valar: Games Page should be updated now.
ArPharazonV: sorry if I seem a bit afk, but this is a loooong battle,
it seems ;-)
FinduilasV: very boring lol
FinduilasV: I am here
top
VardaValar1: Tolkien Discussion:
VardaValar1: Finduilas has a topic. Go ahead, Finduilas.
FinduilasV: Thank you , Varda
FinduilasV: /me looks very nervous
VardaValar1: Toss the ball out there and we'll scramble for it. : )
FinduilasV: I just wondered, guardians are a great topic with senior Tolkien
FinduilasV: so my question is: Who
was guarding what , when , where?
FinduilasV: Just list at the
start, please
FinduilasV: details are welcome later ;-)
VardaValar1: That's a lot
VardaValar1: and they were on both sides.
ArPharazonV: the ents, guarding the woods and trees, in various places
and various times
ArPharazonV: from Beleriand in the first age to Fangorn Forest in the
third age
VardaValar1: Watcher in the Water, in front of the gate to Moria.
FinduilasV: right the rivers , both Doriath and in Mirkwoood
FinduilasV: they were guarding the frontier of the Elven realms]
VardaValar1: Enchanted River in Mirkwood, puts the intruder into
slumber.
ArPharazonV: Shelob guards Cirith Ungol
Menelvagor Valar: The Eagles on the Crissaegrim guarding the area
around Gondolin.
VardaValar1: The Watchers near Mordor, stone sculptures containing
spirits.
ArPharazonV: the Rangers guarding the Shire
Menelvagor Valar: and Bree.
FinduilasV: right but they were guarding more, dont ye think?
VardaValar1: Butterbur, aiding the Rangers with a place to stay and to
leave messages. Also helping Gandalf.
VardaValar1: The Rangers guarded all the folk in the North, but that
was mostly Hobbits and a few small towns with Men.
ArPharazonV: Smaug, guarding his treasure in Erebor :-)
VardaValar1: The Hedge, guarding the Shire from the Old Forest.
ArPharazonV: Haldir and others guarding Lothlorien and its people
VardaValar1: Minas Tirith and all of Gondor guarding the Western lands
from Mordor.
VardaValar1: Thranduil's people helping contain the evils of Dol Guldur.
FinduilasV: Minas MOrgul guarding the entrance of Cirith Ungol
VardaValar1: Sam guarding Frodo.
ArPharazonV: Faramir guarding Osgiliath and Henneth Annun (sp?)
VardaValar1: spelling is right.
VardaValar1: Aye, the southern rangers watching the Ithilien forests
along the edge of Mordor before the evil could spill over.
FinduilasV: right, well it was a lone watchpoint eh? It was more to
keep an eye on the enemy's movement i should think
FinduilasV: Henneth annun, I mean
Menelvagor Valar: Charcharoth guarding the gates of Thangorodrim
ArPharazonV: the Pelennor guarding Valinor
VardaValar1: The Fellowship guarding and escorting Frodo with the Ring
VardaValar1: Elrond and Galadriel guarding their elven territories with
the Rings.
VardaValar1: Melian's Girdle around Doriath.
VardaValar1: You have a point about that guardian theme. : )
Eonwe Valar: Gimli Guarding those three strands of Galadriel's hair.
VardaValar1: =)
TH0R0NGIL: The three-headed door-wards of the tower of Cirith Ungol
ArPharazonV: 7 walls and gates guarding the citadel of Minas Tirth
ArPharazonV: *ith
FinduilasV: /me grins
ArPharazonV: the tower guards of said citadel
VardaValar1: Gandalf warding Middle-earth.
VardaValar1: The White Council trying to keep track of the dangers and
handle them.
TH0R0NGIL: the guards in the trees at the edges of Lothlorien
VardaValar1: The gate to Moria with its invisibility except at certain
times and its password.
FinduilasV: hmm That spider in Cirith Ungol guarding that tunnel
VardaValar1: Gandalf putting a shutting spell on the door between the
Fellowship and the Balrog of Moria.
FinduilasV: Shelob
ArPharazonV: heh.. shelob... I just read a bit through that Lotr-parody
again
ArPharazonV: she's called Schlob there
FinduilasV: and her mother ? Ungolianth guarding that pass near the old
Fortress
VardaValar1: Eru guarding the lands of Valinor from the Numenorean
invasion, when Manwe did not want to destroy the Children of Eru.
FinduilasV: forgot the name
FinduilasV: the mate of Morgoth
ArPharazonV: ..mate?
Eonwe Valar: Morgoth had no mate :}
VardaValar1: Ungoliant, and they were only working together. ;-)
Eonwe Valar: At least not in the official texts.
FinduilasV: aye its her I meant ;')
ArPharazonV: well, in some versions he had an ogress as mate, with
Gothmog as offspring
VardaValar1: Mate can mean companion or friend also.
ArPharazonV: cheers, mate!
Eonwe Valar: There's mention of an ogress in the earlier versions, who
was mother to Kosomot.
VardaValar1: Aye, that mate. No worries!
VardaValar1: Aye, that's what Phar said with the early names too.
FinduilasV: Right was that in the Unfinished tales?
FinduilasV: or some thing of the kind?
VardaValar1: HoMe has 12 volumes to add to UT
ArPharazonV: the History of Middle-earth
ArPharazonV: starting with BoLT, the the Book of Lost Tales
ArPharazonV: *drop one of the "the"s
VardaValar1: *thunk*
ArPharazonV: oh, c'mon, it wasn't that heavy!
VardaValar1: =)
FinduilasV: hihihi heavily guarded eh
FinduilasV: Varda and Manwe guarding Valinor :-)
FinduilasV: well all the Valar in fact
FinduilasV: they guarding Arda with help of elves and men ..
ArPharazonV: Mandos guarding the dead in his home
VardaValar1: Manwe watchiing over all Middle-earth while Varda listens
to all of the folk there.
VardaValar1: Ulmo slipping behind the scenes to help the Eruhini as he
saw the dangers rolling towards them.
FinduilasV: Eruhini?
ArPharazonV: children of Eru
FinduilasV: -i
FinduilasV: ah right , thx
VardaValar1: Shortens saying the elves, humans, and the adopted
children: the dwarves.
VardaValar1: and all the offshoots
FinduilasV: Nice one, true
VardaValar1: Hobbits, Druedain
ArPharazonV: goblins? ;-)
FinduilasV: Trolls?
VardaValar1: That's more of a corruption of the Eruhini
FinduilasV: but they were counterfeits eh\
ArPharazonV: one could call it an offshoot
VardaValar1: I wonder about those hobbits. They did come from the East,
crossing Rohan on the way west.
ArPharazonV: crossing Rohan?
VardaValar1: Were they offshoot mutations or a corruption that
accidentally went cute?
FinduilasV: hmm in size they were not unlike the dwarves ..
ArPharazonV: if I recall correctly, they came more north of the misty
mountains, and 1 breed went south to Dunland before travelling up north
again
VardaValar1: Aye. The hobbits picked up a bit of Rohirric there. : )
ArPharazonV: they didn't actually cross Rohan, did they?
FinduilasV: and else in appearance more like men
FinduilasV: appart from the hair of cousrse
ArPharazonV: Tolkien states that they're more related to men than to
elves or even dwarves :-)
VardaValar1: They got close enough to pick up Rohirric.
ArPharazonV: so I'd guess that they're an offshoot of humans
VardaValar1: Aye, the hobbits were offshoots of Men, according to the
author.
FinduilasV: they were known to the Rohirimm , legendwise
VardaValar1: The ears were slightly pointed and elvish, confusing
things.
ArPharazonV: yes, but my point was, they didn't actually come from the
east, and "cross" Rohan on their way west
ArPharazonV: they just visited from the northwest for a while, and then
went back
VardaValar1: Might have picked up learning to handle crops in the Brown
Lands from Entwives.
VardaValar1: And who were those roaming trees near the Shire?
FinduilasV: ah good point there
VardaValar1: Or they could have learned farming from Men who learned it
from the Entwives.
FinduilasV: there aint no elms in the Northshire
VardaValar1: hehe
FinduilasV: Then yer cousnt cant have seen one )
VardaValar1: Then he couldn't have seen one, could he? ;-)
ArPharazonV: could it be the Entwives up there? guarding the farmers of
the Shire as the Ents guard the forest fo Fangorn?
VardaValar1: It never says.
ArPharazonV: *of
VardaValar1: It could be awakened trees, or huorns.
VardaValar1: What was Old Man Willow anyway?
FinduilasV: Sound s like a tree gone , entish ..
VardaValar1: He was no entwife, but maybe some were in the area.
VardaValar1: Or a Huorn?
FinduilasV: yeah
VardaValar1: Why would huorns be there?
VardaValar1: He sounds like a huorn to me. : )
ArPharazonV: maybe one of the Entwives lost a young Enting there and he
grew tree-ish and bitter without his mommy...
ArPharazonV: one would almost feel sorry for him!
VardaValar1: Back to the subject - Old Man Willow had his way of
guarding the Old Forest, and Tom Bombadil had his.
VardaValar1: Right until one was drowning or caught in a crack, aye.
VardaValar1: Old Man Willow seemed able to instruct other trees to move
in a manner funneling travelers to him. Or did they do it on their own,
wanting to be rid of them?
ArPharazonV: let's take em to Old Man Willow, he'll take care of them?
VardaValar1: Aye! "Let George do it!"
VardaValar1: They already tried breaching the Hedge and were burned for
it.
FinduilasV: yeah, true
FinduilasV: which brings my thought to colder wardens
FinduilasV: of a darker place
ArPharazonV: could it be that Willow-man was an ent gone tree, and he
had the huorns of the forest under his control?
FinduilasV: aye
FinduilasV: i guess he grew a bit power hungry]
ArPharazonV: perhaps
FinduilasV: his heart got corrupted
VardaValar1: A corrupted ent is a huorn, aye.
ArPharazonV: or perhaps he just saw the Hobbits as intruders in his area
TH0R0NGIL: doubt he was ever and ent
VardaValar1: The Hobbits had murdered many trees during that fight.
TH0R0NGIL: probably just a huorn to start with
VardaValar1: Is anything a huorn to start with?
ArPharazonV: how do trees go huorn, exactly?
ArPharazonV: is it by long contact with an ent?
VardaValar1: Ents get corrupted and become huorns, is how I understood
it.
ArPharazonV: corrupted? by what?
FinduilasV: by the trees
VardaValar1: How about hatred of things that destroy trees?
FinduilasV: or that aye
VardaValar1: The huorns only seem evil to non-trees.
ArPharazonV: anyway, the inty-fight coming up it seems, I'm going to
watch for a bit
ArPharazonV: in Eve
VardaValar1: Ok, want to break up for the night?
ArPharazonV: no, no
ArPharazonV: shouldn't take long
Eonwe Valar: I need to head out for now. Take care all, good night,
sleep well, and have fun :}
ArPharazonV: Namarie, Eonwe!
FinduilasV: Namarie, Eonwe!
Eonwe Valar: Enjoy the new reviews :}
FinduilasV: And thanks for the nice gaming page
Eonwe Valar: It's my pleasure :}
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
FinduilasV: \;0
FinduilasV: right , people, i think i have to go or well ..
FinduilasV: theres something about that hunter .
ArPharazonV: hehe
FinduilasV: but I hope ye enjoyed the discussion a bit and thank you
for taking part :-)
ArPharazonV: it was great!
VardaValar1: Good discussion
VardaValar1: Now digging through the books on Huorns
ArPharazonV: well, it seems to be over ;-)
VardaValar1: Nothing in the back of the Sil, seems to be a LotR thing.
FinduilasV: who won?
Menelvagor Valar: Final's of Eve just ended :-)
Menelvagor Valar: BoB
ArPharazonV: BoB
FinduilasV: good good :-)
VardaValar1: Great name. : )
ArPharazonV: Band of Brothers :-)
Menelvagor Valar: Frontier had railguns on their crow.
Menelvagor Valar: was over in 2 minutes :P
FinduilasV: Band of Brorthers
ArPharazonV: hehe
ArPharazonV: 2 minutes? that long?
Menelvagor Valar: just about.
FinduilasV: what race shall I play folk?
ArPharazonV: hunter?
FinduilasV: aye?
ArPharazonV: hmm
FinduilasV: i like night elves for their agility but i have aready two
Menelvagor Valar: Dwarf, Night Elf, doesn't really matter.
ArPharazonV: if you want to mail things between your alts, and want to
stay in contact with Valar, I'd suggest an alliance race
Menelvagor Valar: Night Elf has the better agility of the two, but
Dwarves pack more punch and have better health.
FinduilasV: yeah for sure
FinduilasV: maybe a man ..
FinduilasV: human
Menelvagor Valar: humans can't be hunters.
FinduilasV: oh blur hehe
Menelvagor Valar: nor can gnomes.
FinduilasV: okay night elf thwen
VardaValar1: got a quore
VardaValar1: quote
Menelvagor Valar: oh, and in a few months time, the alliance will be
litterally overrun by Shamans :-D
ArPharazonV: jewelcrafting Draenei shamans, even ;-)
VardaValar1: Dranei are Alliance
VardaValar1: You mean everyone will make one? : )
ArPharazonV: exactly
ArPharazonV: I know I will ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: not all will go Jewelcrafting, but definately 95% of
Drenai will be Shaman.
VardaValar1: Shamans on the Alliance side. My tauren finds that
bothersome. : )
ArPharazonV: and I was gonna call him Cal'jaeden ;-)
VardaValar1: Will they have paladin blood elves to even the score? : )
ArPharazonV: yes
Menelvagor Valar: yep.
ArPharazonV: the Blood Knights
VardaValar1: oh man.
VardaValar1: Nothing left to just one side or the other.
ArPharazonV: they captured a Naaru in Outland and managed to tap into
his powers of the Light
VardaValar1: I still find my Undead Priest odd. : )
Menelvagor Valar: however, the Blood Knights are fallen warriors, but
can still call upon the light.
FinduilasV: Naeme thats the other question ..
FinduilasV: hunter in elvish>?
FinduilasV: Sindarin?
VardaValar1: Where did you find it?
VardaValar1: Anyway, I was about to quote
Merry on Huorns, if you like.
FinduilasV: ok go on
Menelvagor Valar: Oh, Phar, you will laugh your behind off when you
hear what I have called my hunter's Raptor pet :P
Menelvagor Valar: please do :)
ArPharazonV: tell me!
Menelvagor Valar: will do after Varda's quote.
ArPharazonV: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/burningcrusade/townhall/classcombo.html
btw
VardaValar1: "Treebeard won't say
much about them, but I think they are Ents that have become almost like
trees, at least to look at.
VardaValar1: "They stand here and
there in the wood or under its eaves, silent, watching endlessly over
the trees;
VardaValar1: "but deep in the darkest
dales there are hundreds and hundreds of them, I believe."
VardaValar1: "Flotsam and Jetsam" Two Towers
VardaValar1: done.
FinduilasV: yeah I just read that today :-)
FinduilasV: thank you, Varda
ArPharazonV: so, Ents that have become almost like trees?
ArPharazonV: not the other way around?
VardaValar1: They watch over the trees.
ArPharazonV: what does that say about the Old Forest?
Menelvagor Valar: that it's very, very old.
ArPharazonV: if we assume only ents and huorns can do things like move,
attack, etc...
ArPharazonV: more ents than trees once, in the Old Forest!
Menelvagor Valar: accumulate experience to gain more skills and better
armor and hitpoints..
ArPharazonV: ...
VardaValar1: Ents herd trees.
Menelvagor Valar: sorry, couldn't resist 8-)
Menelvagor Valar: so, Old Man Willow is basically an Ent that has
fallen from the light?
VardaValar1: Depends on how you look at it. He thinks he's protecting
trees, perhaps?
Menelvagor Valar: more like a Huorn than the Ents in Fangorn, yet still
with the ability to govern the other trees and bend them to his will?

After-meeting:
VardaValar1: I am being asked to go somewhere in real life
VardaValar1: I'll trust you guys to send a transcript. : )
VardaValar1: Namarie!
FinduilasV: right friend my hunteress is Narimia
FinduilasV: namarie !
FinduilasV: farewell friends
VardaValar1: Namarie
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
VardaValar1: You can use
VardaValar1: the Hiseloke Sindarin project
VardaValar1: for some words too
Menelvagor Valar: So, the time has come to tell the tale of Ondoline
and her Raptor pet *smile*
FinduilasV: Farewell , untill we meet again ")
FinduilasV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Take care
Menelvagor Valar: Shall I? in true RP style?
Menelvagor Valar: Pharzie?
ArPharazonV: sorry, in private convo with Varda, shouldn't take too long
Menelvagor Valar: okies
Menelvagor Valar: let me know when.
VardaValar1: Ok, we're all done
ArPharazonV: he told me to warn him in IM, so he would notice it ;-)
VardaValar1: Namarie!
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
Menelvagor Valar: Namarie Varda!
Menelvagor Valar: Ok, here comes.
VardaValar1 has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar: It was on a quiet day when Ondoline ventured into the
Wetlands, for some Dwarven lout from Auberdine had sent her there.
ArPharazonV: *grin* the archaeologist?
Menelvagor Valar: While there, she could not believe her eyes, for
there were the most beautiful creatures she had ever seen.
Menelvagor Valar: With deadly grace they prowled the swamplands and she
swore an oath that one day she would entice one of those magnificent
beasts to join her.
Menelvagor Valar: But fate was not with her that day, for she soon
learned that she lacked the experience to successfully entice the
awesome predators.
Menelvagor Valar: Saddened by her failure, she fell into a deep sleep,
in which she stayed for many months, until finally she was aroused when
a group of adventurers asked her aid to the Deadmines.
Menelvagor Valar: Of course, having never been there, she was happy to
go and increase her knowledge of the world.
Menelvagor Valar: After spending a long while in the cramped dungeon
and finally slaying the evil Van Cleef, she returned to Darnassus to
ask her mentor to train her once more.
Menelvagor Valar: He had never forgotten her and gladly accepted and
taught her all she could master.
Menelvagor Valar: with renewed spirit, she once again set forth to the
Wetlands knowing that this time she would prevail.
Menelvagor Valar: Thus she ventured deep into the swamps where the
Raptors lived and prepared for the battle to come.
Menelvagor Valar: for such deadly and graceful predators would not
easily succumb to her enticement.
Menelvagor Valar: And so she set a small trap of frost before her in
the hopes of keeping the beast away from her for as long as possible.
Menelvagor Valar: Then, she started her chants and immediately the
Raptor responded.
Menelvagor Valar: It came to her in frightening speed, alarmed by the
chants Ondoline sang.
Menelvagor Valar: But in its rage, it did not see the trap and got
entangled in its snare and was trapped in a huge block of ice.
Menelvagor Valar: Ondoline was overjoyed at her success and continued
her chants, when suddenly, out of the corner of her eyes she saw
movement in a nearby gully.
Menelvagor Valar: the wiley Raptor had called forth the aid of a
devilish Crocolisk!
ArPharazonV: :-)
Menelvagor Valar: Unabated, Ondoline continued her chants, for she
still hoped she would be able to complete the ritual in time.
Menelvagor Valar: All of a sudden, without warning, a sharp flash of
pain shot up her back, for a second Raptor had approached her from
behind and had set its claws into her.
Menelvagor Valar: Ondoline now became very afraid, but did not dare
run, for she had nearly completed the ritual.
Menelvagor Valar: As she bit through the pain of the Raptor's claws and
the Crocolisk's teeth, her fear soon became wide-eyed terror, for the
Raptor had broken loose from its icey prison.
Menelvagor Valar: It was not long before she lost all sense of the
world around her and lost the link to the magnificent creature.
ArPharazonV: aww
Menelvagor Valar: She woke up in a hazed state, in the Menethil Harbor
graveyard, with a radiant angel looking over her.
Menelvagor Valar: She talked to the divine being, which granted her her
body back, but at a cost, for she would not be able to fight well for a
time to come.
TH0R0NGIL has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar: Then as her body was restored to her, she dejectedly
blew her whistle, which would have called forth the Raptor.
Menelvagor Valar: Imagine her surprise when suddenly, out of nowhere a
Raptor appeared, standing in front of her, staring at her defiantly,
yet not attacking her.
ArPharazonV: ooh, lucky
Menelvagor Valar: So, she decided to put her new pet to the test at the
nearby Murlocs.
Menelvagor Valar: Still weak from the transition from the Spirit Realm
to the Living world, all was in the hands of her Raptor.
Menelvagor Valar: But with marvelous ease, the Raptor slew the Murlocs.
Menelvagor Valar: And then, from her memory she recalled the name of a
Great Weapon, once whispered of in fear, wielded by an evil demon, but
with cunning, and craftiness, that weapon could be remade to serve a
new bearer.
Menelvagor Valar: Knowing full well that she herself would most likely
not be able to bear such a weapon, she instead decided to name her
Raptor after it.
Menelvagor Valar: And thus was her pet named "Sulfuras", to which it
would listen forever after.
Menelvagor Valar: or at least until the time we are now.
ArPharazonV: haha
Menelvagor Valar: Such was the story of Ondoline and Sulfuras.
Menelvagor Valar: I hope you enjoyed the story.
Menelvagor Valar: The End
ArPharazonV: Sulfuras, eh?
Menelvagor Valar: yep
Menelvagor Valar: Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros wouldn't fit :-P
Menelvagor Valar: but other than the name, what did you think of the
story?
ArPharazonV: nice story
ArPharazonV: got quite lucky there, I suppose
Menelvagor Valar: (oh and yes, it really was on the second that she
died that I completed the whatever it's called :-P)
Menelvagor Valar: or unlucky, for getting two adds =-O
Menelvagor Valar: and very fortunate I set the frost trap :)
ArPharazonV: hehe
ArPharazonV: it's cheating! how long does the trap last?
ArPharazonV: I assume you can only set one at a time?
Menelvagor Valar: dunno... 15-20 secs maybe.
Menelvagor Valar: yep, only one.
ArPharazonV: taming process is 20 sec
Menelvagor Valar: lemme check then.
Menelvagor Valar: 10 secs
Menelvagor Valar: I still like sap better.
Menelvagor Valar: even better than sheep.
Menelvagor Valar: or rather, polymorph, now that there are pigs and
turtles :P
ArPharazonV: heh
Menelvagor Valar: you should know what makes sap better than poly :)
ArPharazonV: if it's improved, it usually doesn't initiate combat...
ArPharazonV: the healing doesn't matter, since sap has to be performed
out of combat
Menelvagor Valar: yes, that's the part that makes poly better than sap,
it's usable in combat.
ArPharazonV: I guess the main difference would be the moving around and
aggroing other things bit
Menelvagor Valar: but strictly the effect itself?
ArPharazonV: I'm not sure
Menelvagor Valar: Sap is not breakable, except by damage.
Menelvagor Valar: poly is breakable by critter resists, magic effect
removal, certain items, shapeshifting...
ArPharazonV: ahh
ArPharazonV: I'm used to pve, though, so most of those factors don't
really matter
Menelvagor Valar: exactly those things matter in PvE
Xseanzee disco has left the room.
Orodreth V: /me grumbles
ArPharazonV: greetings, Oro!
Orodreth V: Bloody backstabbing russkies.
Orodreth V: /me shakes his fist
Orodreth V: BRITAIN WILL GET REVENGE!
Orodreth V: ...mostly likely by throwing the game to the French, but
hey.
Orodreth V: Gah, I have to disband 4 units now..
Srekal86 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: ?
ArPharazonV: there's no famous turtle in Middle-earth, no?
Orodreth V: not that I know of...
Orodreth V: oO
ArPharazonV: too ba
ArPharazonV: *d
ArPharazonV: guess I'll name my WoW-pet after A'Tuin, carrier of the
Discworld
Orodreth V: That's what I was gonna suggest, but I couldn't recall its
name.
Orodreth V: Don't forget to get 4 elephant pets though.
ArPharazonV: haha
ArPharazonV: can only have 3 pets at once
ArPharazonV: going for a wolf called Helvy, named after my wolf in the
rp on our forum, and a panther called Tevildo
ArPharazonV: and a turtle ;-)
ArPharazonV: a tank, a damage-dealer, and an all-rounder
ArPharazonV: anyway, time to go to bed
ArPharazonV: Namarie, I'll be saving and sending
