Eonwe Valar: One sec and we shall begin :}

Eonwe Valar (17:09:11): Elen Sila Lumenn Omentielvo!
Eonwe Valar: Membership:
Eonwe Valar: Varda and family and friend are back :}
VardaValar1: *waves*
Eonwe Valar: Varda, anything you have to add?
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: Elwing was the friend who went canoeing and other fun
travel with us
VardaValar1: We dropped by and saw Merry, who canoed a little while
with us too. : )
VardaValar1: Arwen is back from Louisana into Texas, staying at a house
3 blocks from us until Thursday
VardaValar1: and is two rooms down chatting with Eowyn : )
VardaValar1: Hi from all of us!
VardaValar1: Gimli will be dropping by here later, so hi from him too
VardaValar1: That's it from this corner.
Eonwe Valar: Heya to you all :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other Member news?
Eonwe Valar: Ok, on to Web news:
Eonwe Valar: Varda's floor here as well :}
ArPharazonV: oh,s orry
VardaValar1: Thanks
ArPharazonV: member news
VardaValar1: *Yields to Phar*
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead Phar.
ArPharazonV:
I shall be going on vacation next week, starting Saturday, for 2 weeks
ArPharazonV: no computer, no internet, no nothing
ArPharazonV: so you won't see me around for the next 2 meetings
ArPharazonV: ...and that's basically it
VardaValar1: It's going to be way too quiet around here then.
Eonwe Valar: Have fun Phar :}
ArPharazonV: thanks
ArPharazonV: you'll survive ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Getting away from technology can be a good thing :}
Menelvagor Valar: who says? :P
ArPharazonV: aye, gonna see if I get addictive symptoms from not WoWing
for 2 weeks
Eonwe Valar: I says :}
VardaValar1: I second it. : )
Eonwe Valar: You might dream about WoW a couple of nights at first :}
ArPharazonV: guild says I'm addicted, parents say I'm addicted, I say
I'm not addicted
ArPharazonV: time to see who's right :-)
VardaValar1: Might be just habit. : )
Menelvagor Valar: I say it's a habit dangerously close to addiction.
ArPharazonV: haha
Eonwe Valar: :} Either way, have fun away from technology :}
ArPharazonV: will do
Eonwe Valar: Maybe it's time for Phar to get Experience points by
discovering things in the outside world, like sunshine, stars, and such
:}
ArPharazonV: sun...shine? what's that?
Eonwe Valar: You'll find out :}
Eonwe Valar: Varda, back to you with the web report :}
Menelvagor Valar: that's that yellow thing that tries to poke your eyes
out and give you a marvelous headache when you step outside your front
door to get a new WoW gamecard.

Web:
VardaValar1 (17:19:58): Update has been made today for the WoW Lothar member page
VardaValar1: It includes our brand new level 60 for Treabeard aka
Fangorn-(Valar).
VardaValar1: Addition to the rp
on our Forum, and that's it for me at the moment.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Varda :}
ArPharazonV: treabeard? has to be a druid!
Eonwe Valar: In addition, on the Games Page, I've put up a link to a sortable table version of the WoW
Lothar Guild list.
Menelvagor Valar: nah, Phar, pink-haired gnomish warlock.
ArPharazonV: haha
Eonwe Valar: It's on the left navigation frame right now, but that's
not where I want to leave it. When I decide where it'll finally go,
I'll let you know both here and on the Games Page News.
Eonwe Valar: I also tweaked a couple of things so the Games Page is
slightly smaller in space :}
Eonwe Valar: Don't suppose there's any other web news for the guild, so
I'll go to gaming :}
Eonwe Valar: Oh, feel free to try out the sortable list while it's on
the left navigation frame of the Games Page and tell me what you think.
Eonwe Valar: You can sort by level, professions, name, Guild name,
essentially any of the columns :}
top
Eonwe Valar (17:27:14): Moving to Gaming:
Eonwe Valar: WoW
Lothar: I'm afraid I wasn't feeling up to playing WoW on Friday,
so I know of no Guild Questing.
VardaValar1: Just Laytonrim on far as I could tell
Eonwe Valar: I did however join in a 3-man
Zul Farrak run yesterday with Fangorn and Eowyn.
Eonwe Valar: Well, 2 men and 1 lady, if you want to be technical :}
VardaValar1: She'll put on Dernhelm guise if needed. ;-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Menelvagor Valar: depends on what gender character they play :P
Eonwe Valar: We went after the Hydromancer to grab the second Mosh'aru
tablet.
Eonwe Valar: Even considering that, Menel, it was still 2 guys and a
gal :}
Menelvagor Valar: and you're not on an RP server, so makes no shred of
difference :P
Eonwe Valar: That's about it for WoW.
VardaValar1: We do our own internal rp : )
Eonwe Valar: Turbine released some more location info for LotRO: Bag
End, and a new creature: Bog Lurkers.
Menelvagor Valar: If they had some nice epixx in swamps, I'd be a Bog
Lurker :P
Eonwe Valar: Oh, one more thing about WoW.
Eonwe Valar: Caverns of Time info released for the Burning Crusade.
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news?
Eonwe Valar: Anyone do anything besides WoW or dream about LotRO this
week? :}
ArPharazonV: my hunter got her pet in WoW!
Eonwe Valar: Congrats :}
Eonwe Valar: Start sending Tolkien topics to me as well. It's about
that time :}
ArPharazonV: it's a wolf tamed from Northshire Abbey, and he's called -
now you'd never seen this coming - he's called...
ArPharazonV: Helvy!
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Kill the wolf! :}
Menelvagor Valar: I have some news, although I sort of gave it away at
the start :P
Menelvagor Valar: It's not Valar Guild related, except for me, so I'll
make it snappy if you wish to hear :)
VardaValar1: Member news? : )
Menelvagor Valar: game.
Menelvagor Valar: WoW
Eonwe Valar: If it's what I think it is, Menel, you gave it away
already a couple of meetings ago :}
Menelvagor Valar: a bit, but this is an update :-P
Menelvagor Valar: Legacy of the Phoenix has started raiding Zul'Gurub
since wednesday, we killed Mandokir (4th boss) and recruiting those we
need to fill up the raids.
FarmerMaggotV has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: in other words, we're doing great.
Menelvagor Valar: now that's snappy :-D
Eonwe Valar: If you measure great by raiding :}
Menelvagor Valar: and yes, we're having fun.
Menelvagor Valar: we have our occasional hiccoughs, but such can be
expected with all new things *smile*
Eonwe Valar: Well, good luck on that, Menel :}
top
Eonwe Valar (17:43:28): Seems we've come to the end of our Gaming, so Tolkien Time
:}
Eonwe Valar: Here's a warm-up for the brain :} What do we know of
Rivendell? How did the Fellowship spend their time there?
VardaValar1: They had about a month there, didn't they?
FarmerMaggotV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Enough time to let the Hobbits investigate the kitchens.
uh oh
Eonwe Valar: The Fellowship had to wait for those scouts *cough* to get
back, aye :}
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: They couldn't afford to let the Ring be noticed. I wonder
if Vilya sort of masked it there?
ArPharazonV: Vilya masking the One Ring's presence? I doubt that... as
the One Ring was quite a bit more powerful
VardaValar1: The Fellowship would need to learn to work together,
practice for the trip.
FinduilasV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Or would Vilya have to be kept completely unused to
prevent the One Ring from trying to latch on to it?
VardaValar1: Aiya Finduilas : )
FinduilasV: Aiya :-) Forgive, I forgot the time L)
VardaValar1: Got here in time for Tolkien : )
Eonwe Valar: I don't think the One RIng could've "latched on" like
that. It would take a direct act of will to perceive the mind of a
Ringbearer.
FinduilasV: But to chip in on your question, i think the one ring would
have tried to undo what Vilya did
VardaValar1: The One Ring was not really active yet, just trying to
travel back to Sauron.
VardaValar1: Vilya had its elf.
Eonwe Valar: Elrond was no slouch, with or without Vilya, whereas Frodo
had been trying to use the One as little as possible.
ArPharazonV: Frodo could have used the One Ring to "latch on" to Vilya,
then?
ArPharazonV: you know... had he wanted to?
Eonwe Valar: Galadriel says Frodo could've used it to perceive the
minds of other Ringbearers given certain conditions.
Eonwe Valar: One beign he would have to train his will to the dominion
of others'.
Eonwe Valar: *beign = gein
VardaValar1: Probably not. Elrond knew the One Ring was there and the
usual system was "take off the ring".
Eonwe Valar: *being
Eonwe Valar: Galadriel openly wore the Ring in front of Frodo.
Eonwe Valar: *her Ring
Eonwe Valar: It may be that Frodo saw Vilya on Elrond's finger that
made him ask Galadriel why he could not perceive the minds of the other
Ringbearers.
Eonwe Valar: Well, in part. There's the Nazgul for that too.
Eonwe Valar: But it's not hard to figure out someone with a 1-track
mind: "Get the Ring! Get the Ring!" :}
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: well, the Nazgul did not actually have their rings, did
they?
FinduilasV: well Sam could not see Vilya, Eonwe, but it was the one
ring that gave Frodo a keener eye
VardaValar1: No, Sauron kept the rings of the Nazgul.
ArPharazonV: I was under the impression that Sauron had their rings in
his possession
ArPharazonV: aye
FarmerMaggotV has entered the room.
GilraenV: Gwaihir
here, just got home and figured I oughta say hi ;-)
VardaValar1: Hi there!
ArPharazonV: hi
GilraenV: (home to Gilraen's, not home to Canada)
FinduilasV: Aiya :-)
Eonwe Valar: Heya to the future newlyweds :}
VardaValar1: Good to see you again!
Eonwe Valar: I remember a tale in UT, featuring Saruman and the Nazgul,
whose commentary discusses the debate of whether the Rings were worn by
the Nazgul or if they were held by Saruman.
VardaValar1: We were just talking about the Fellowship's time in
Rivendell, and got onto how the One Ring might have affected it.
ArPharazonV: and from there to how Frodo could have used the Ring, and
from there to the Nazgul and their Rings... that was one quick tangent
FarmerMaggotV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: and then all was silent?
GilraenV: I blame Gwaihir ;-)
Eonwe Valar: I'm looking for my story.
Eonwe Valar: the one I was talking about.
VardaValar1: I think you meant Sauron, Eonwe
ArPharazonV: The hunt for the Ring
VardaValar1: Anyway, to back up to the topic
VardaValar1: while Eonwe digs
VardaValar1: The Fellowship would have needed to practice together
VardaValar1: They needed to know what they could count on from each
other
ArPharazonV: "At length he
(Sauron) rsolved that no others
would serve him in this case but his mightiest servants, the
Ringwraiths, who had no will but his own,
ArPharazonV: being each utterly
subservient to the ring that had enslaved him, which Sauron held."
ArPharazonV: *resolved
FarmerMaggotV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Thanks for the quote, Pharazon
VardaValar1: Sorry, got into a naming discussion on a side window
VardaValar1: I suspect others are having similar problems
Eonwe Valar: Aye, makes one wonder how serious the sparring between
Aragorn and Boromir got.
Eonwe Valar: (in response the fourth most recent comment by Varda.)
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Boromir was a proud man and didn't like the idea of a king
any more than Denethor.
Eonwe Valar: Unless that kig was him.
Eonwe Valar: *king
VardaValar1: Aye, it took time for Boromir to accept Aragorn. The
sparring would have been serious
ArPharazonV: I doubt they'd get in trouble at Rivendell.... disrupt its
peace ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Legolas and Gimli probably did not spend much time doing
anything together, unless it be trade verbal jabs.
VardaValar1: True Eonwe. They didn't manage to bond until much later.
VardaValar1: The sparring would have been in the name of practice, of
course. : )
Eonwe Valar: of course :}
Menelvagor Valar: pft... updating member roster and TKP list ain't what
you call a quick job :P
Eonwe Valar: Some basic swordsmanship would've been taught the Hobbits.
VardaValar1: You noticed that, Menel? ;-)
ArPharazonV: starting a raidgroup is hard work, Menel!
Eonwe Valar: Starting and/or running any guild is hard work :}
ArPharazonV: don't worry, in a few months you'll have a dozen officers
to do the work for you ;-)
VardaValar1: The whole Fellowship needed to help train the Hobbits
VardaValar1: Phar, where are our dozen officers? Tell them to quit
running off! :-)
GilraenV: well, Gwaihir and I are off. We might catch you next week,
but probably not the week after that.
GilraenV: Namarie, folks :-)
Eonwe Valar: Take care Gil and Gwai :}
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
VardaValar1: Namarie
GilraenV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: as for officers... you have Menel ;-)
VardaValar1: Menel, doing his own thing? : )
FinduilasV: Namaiie!
ArPharazonV: well, that's his choice, now isn't it? :-)
VardaValar1: yep
VardaValar1: What training would the hobbits have received?
VardaValar1: The Tooks and Brandybucks would have picked up some at home
top
After-meeting:
Menelvagor Valar (18:22:10): Like I don't know how much work it is, or
that it gets easier after a while (was leader of THG and started RSA,
remember) :P
VardaValar1: So Menel, ready to start a Valar branch on the side of that? ;-)
ArPharazonV: hehe
FinduilasV: well my diear friend, if ye need help with Valar stuff i am
here
VardaValar1: As if you didn't have enough work
FinduilasV: rather with ye
Menelvagor Valar: hehe.
Menelvagor Valar: more than willing to start an official Valar Branch...
Menelvagor Valar: but most of us are too busy with other things to
really get into it.
FinduilasV: good just been discussing that with varda
Menelvagor Valar: besides, it's only 5 of us in Europe, AD.
VardaValar1: Did you include Aragorn?
Menelvagor Valar: he's not on AD, is he?
ArPharazonV: if he is, never ran into him...
ArPharazonV: well, not that I would recognize him if I did
VardaValar1: Probably some weird name like the rest of you
FinduilasV: might he be on Moonglade? ive got one character there
Menelvagor Valar: all we can do is help each other out with hints and
the occasional questing.
ArPharazonV: oh, yes, went to Deadmines with Finduilas this week
Menelvagor Valar: ah, I'll get a mail out to him about that.
ArPharazonV: show her what a lvl 60 druid can do ;-)
VardaValar1: Yes, Aragorn is on Argent Dawn
FinduilasV: yes , you did was good fun
Menelvagor Valar: better ask him to contact me then :)
FinduilasV: ran throu stockades with Darkmoon and another one of the
High Guard later on
FinduilasV: yesterday
ArPharazonV: cool, who?
ArPharazonV: from the High Guard? any idea?
FinduilasV: was a druid , forgot the name , female one
FinduilasV: 56
ArPharazonV: female druid... High Guard....
ArPharazonV: not lvl 60...
FinduilasV: or maybe rogue .. , just have no head
VardaValar1: Theoden is a WoW
Europe gamer, might check with him
ArPharazonV: any idea what server he plays?
VardaValar1: No, I don't
Menelvagor Valar: mail sent.
VardaValar1: Of course Fladrif and Valandil
ArPharazonV: yup, those are in the High Guard too
ArPharazonV: still speak them from time to time, at least
ArPharazonV: Fladrif's alt Skjold got his own guild now
ArPharazonV: their leader wanted to disband originally, but he just
took over :-)
VardaValar1: Cross-guilding is no problem, can help you find more gamers
ArPharazonV: indeed
VardaValar1: hehe
FarmerMaggotV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: there's something funny about a lvl 40 alt leading a
guild...
FinduilasV: alas
VardaValar1: um, don't tell Gilbrennil of Uldaman ;-)
VardaValar1: My Tauren shaman. None of us are 60 yet though
Menelvagor Valar: and to Theoden as well.
VardaValar1: The efficient Menelvagor : )
FinduilasV: hihi
VardaValar1: I think our Tolkien chat collapsed : )
Menelvagor Valar: ah well, you know how I tend to forget things if I
don't do it right away 8-)
Menelvagor Valar: my fault I guess.
VardaValar1: Is there room for a Valar branch there?
VardaValar1: It's good to do something quickly like that, easy to keep
putting it off. My respect to you.
ArPharazonV: Menelvagor, Fladrif, Valandile, Finduilas, Aragorn,
Theoden, and myself
Menelvagor Valar: I am sure Phar and I can arrange for some alt of us
to be in an official Valar branch.
ArPharazonV: 7 people... not even enough to fill a guild charter
VardaValar1: Finduilas found a potential Valar
ArPharazonV: oh, true
VardaValar1: You do remember "scouting"? : )
FinduilasV: yes a kind guy
ArPharazonV: well, yes, and I've been trying
Menelvagor Valar: I still have a number of potential Valarites on my
list.
VardaValar1: Find the kind folk who read LotR, and they are perfect
VardaValar1: Door
FinduilasV: he is very helpful Angarkk of the Azeroth freelancers
FinduilasV: lvl 26 Hunter, and knows a lot
ArPharazonV: just last week or so I got a few people enthusiastic about
Tolkien, and I pushed them right through to the site... but haven't
heard much response yet
FinduilasV: I will adress him when i see him no worries
Menelvagor Valar: send him right over to me when I'm online :)
Menelvagor Valar: I think the least I can do is get a Valar channel
going on AD.
VardaValar1: back
VardaValar1: Aye, a Valar channel is
easy. Just type /join Valar
FinduilasV: i did it alredy ;
VardaValar1: If you never make a guild, you can at least find each
other : )
FinduilasV: so channel exists
VardaValar1: Just like Battlenet that way. Same game maker. ;-)
FinduilasV: we might try jet, Varda, we might try ..
VardaValar1: Cool : )
FinduilasV: I have to find a decent version of my name hehe
VardaValar1: Actually your Fanduilas would work
VardaValar1: tacking on a V usually works
FinduilasV: yeah but the name is not available yeah true
VardaValar1: In your case, the v could use a vowel first. ; )
FinduilasV: EfinduilasV
VardaValar1: Vardav is easy, with a vowel on the end
FinduilasV: or Efinduilas
Menelvagor Valar: I can delete one of my chars to make a Menelvagor.
ArPharazonV: if ArPharazonv works...
Menelvagor Valar: will have to delete that one again in the future to
make a Draenai Shaman jewelcrafter though :P
FinduilasV: maybe not E ..
VardaValar1: Menelmacar might be available
Menelvagor Valar: Menelvagor should be available, I've had a couple
chars with that name :)
ArPharazonV: but I don't actually use Pharazon as a game-name
FinduilasV: I ll make Fanduilas V again, i killed her off lol
ArPharazonV: too well-known, don't want to get into copyright problems
VardaValar1: Varda hasn't had a problem yet
ArPharazonV: so I took Calaron and made a few variations on it
ArPharazonV: one of them Caldarion... based on another famous
Numenorean king ;-)
VardaValar1: Lots of Varda versions, but used Fainan as "I emit light"
Eonwe Valar: Caliontar would be a sneaky way :}
VardaValar1: Aye, Eonwe :-)
VardaValar1: Finduilas needs to have her name translated
VardaValar1: Maybe we could do some looking up tonight
VardaValar1: running upstairs for books : )
ArPharazonV: I think Lotr said Pharazon actually means gold, or golden
ArPharazonV: which would make Pharazon the Golden a bit redundant,
actually ;-)
VardaValar1: back
Menelvagor Valar: how about Arlaurë?
Menelvagor Valar: or Laurëtar?
VardaValar1: O, and Gimli is using Gloinson as one of his names.
ArPharazonV: hehe, nice
Menelvagor Valar: (laurë being Quenya for gold :-D)
Eonwe Valar: Clever is nice, I don't require it :}
Eonwe Valar: * but I
VardaValar1: Faelivren was a name given Finduilas by Gwindor.
Eonwe Valar: *Clever or creative
FinduilasV: Faelivren
FinduilasV: very nice
ArPharazonV: *grabs Sil* wasn't it Failivrin?
FinduilasV: would fit too haha, as long as no texts are concerned at
the mo lol
FinduilasV: Failivrin
FinduilasV: i think thats it
ArPharazonV: named after the pools of Ivrin
VardaValar1: Faelivren "the gleam of the sun on the pools of Ivrin"
VardaValar1: That's in Sil "Of Turin Turambar"
FinduilasV: Faelivrin ...
FinduilasV: goood good
ArPharazonV: Failivrin in the index of the Silmarillion :-)
ArPharazonV: no, Faelivrin
FinduilasV: well can have two chars in either version
ArPharazonV: you can have 4
ArPharazonV: Failivrin, Faelivrin, Faelivren and Failivren!
FinduilasV: have to kill one of the others i think no i have only 5 so
far, but might be a bit hard to level with all
FinduilasV: maybe i take off one i have to think which , i leave Aiyata
any way she s a good scout
FinduilasV: a
VardaValar1: Fin is "hair" in "Finduilas"
FinduilasV: bit depressive now and again but there ye go :-)
VardaValar1: Sil glossary
VardaValar1: Rough that they won't let us change our character names
VardaValar1: duilas is tougher
VardaValar1: might be "night, dimness"
VardaValar1: Sindarin dulin is nightingale
FinduilasV: Hair of the dim Nightingale haha
ArPharazonV: I'd assume it would mean she had dark hair... but I can't
remember her having dark hair
VardaValar1: Daughter of the House of Finarfin
ArPharazonV: exactly! doesn't that mean blond?
VardaValar1: Gwindor called her that. Not necessarily, but it is
implied.
Menelvagor Valar: hmm... updates done...
Menelvagor Valar: we have 40 members already...
Menelvagor Valar: 43 to be precise, 37 of which are 60.
ArPharazonV: and... how many of them attuned to the Core?
Menelvagor Valar: how am I supposed to know? :P
Menelvagor Valar: we've been doin ZG.
Menelvagor Valar: I've been leading and recruiting and updating.
ArPharazonV: true, true
Menelvagor Valar: can't do everything at once, you know :P
Eonwe Valar: Bah, I know that story exists, but now I don't know where
it is.
FinduilasV: yeah ive seen ye calling outlately
ArPharazonV: but ZG with 37 people... you'll need to start thinking
about the bigger raids :-)
Menelvagor Valar: last two raids have had only 10 members.
Menelvagor Valar: filled the rest with LFG'ers.
ArPharazonV: youch
Menelvagor Valar: recruited half of those on both occasions.
ArPharazonV: well, I'm sure you'll get there!
VardaValar1: Know that feeling, Eonwe!
ArPharazonV: what story was that, Eonwe?
Menelvagor Valar: friday was semi-PuG, :)
Eonwe Valar: The one I mentioned earlier. One with Saruman and the
Nazgul.
Menelvagor Valar: that was the night we downed Mandokir in one try :-D
VardaValar1: Congrats Menel : )
Menelvagor Valar: thanks :)
Menelvagor Valar: we were lucky :)
Eonwe Valar: I was sure it was in UT, but I didn't find it there.
ArPharazonV: the one I quoted half the meeting ago? ;-)
Eonwe Valar: No, that's not the one.
Eonwe Valar: I had already skimmed that part when you quoted it.
ArPharazonV: Saruman and the Nazgul?
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
VardaValar1: Oh, another prophecy perhaps.
ArPharazonV: I now honestly don't have a clue what story you're talking
about...
VardaValar1: Gwindor said if Turin didn't save Finduilas, then his doom
would come on him.
Eonwe Valar: I recall a "scene" where the Nazgul actually ride up to
Orthanc.
ArPharazonV: "Two days after Gandalf had departed from Orthanc, the
Lord of Morgul halted before the Gate of Isengard."
ArPharazonV: in my book it's exactly 2 pages after the quote I gave ;-)
Eonwe Valar: What page?
ArPharazonV: 439, but I doubt that'll help you
Eonwe Valar: That would be my Index, heh.
ArPharazonV: fourth page of The hunt for the ring
VardaValar1: Gwindor says quite a bit. Another spot is about the
crossings between human and elf
VardaValar1: "Neither will fate suffer it, unless it be once or twice
only, for some high cause of doom that we do not perceive."
ArPharazonV: that's quite a statement to make, since for all he knew
Turin/Finduilas could have been for some high cause of doom
VardaValar1: He did say that if Turin saved Finduilas, it would prevent
the death he would go to.
VardaValar1: That could have been involved in a high cause of doom
VardaValar1: Glaurung thought it worth preventing
VardaValar1: If Turin had listened to Ulmo, he would've broken that
bridge, and not let pride rule him
VardaValar1: He kept muffing chances.
FinduilasV: oh well when and if what does that help , but its an
interesting thought
FinduilasV: i wonder what was in store for her
VardaValar1: She might have prevented Turin getting together with his
own sister, which led to her suicide
VardaValar1: Turin and his sister both could have lived longer
VardaValar1: Funny how mostly the meeting has Europeans for whom the
hour is late or extremely early
VardaValar1: The Americas are mostly busy with the day's activities
VardaValar1: Way it goes.
FinduilasV: you mean its time to go back to it e ..
FinduilasV: i have to go anyway, i ll work early
ArPharazonV: allrighty
VardaValar1: Good night, or good morning. : )
Eonwe Valar: Let's call it a meeting.
ArPharazonV: will see you around in WoW, and Namarie
Eonwe Valar: *Bangs Gavel*
VardaValar1: *jumps*
VardaValar1: WoW...
FinduilasV: yes you will! Namarie!
VardaValar1: I think one of the comps is free!
FinduilasV: farewsll ;-)
FinduilasV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: ...how many of those do you have, Varda?
Eonwe Valar: As far as the part in the story goes, that seems to be it,
but I know the wording had got more commentary for it.
VardaValar1: Two WoW comps
Eonwe Valar: "I have it not, as surely its servants perceive without
telling; for if I had it, then you would bow before me and call me
Lord."
Eonwe Valar: Now unless we had one whiz-bang of a Valar Guild
discussion on that once, there should be some commentary somewhere on
it.
ArPharazonV: I can't find it either
Eonwe Valar: My last recourse is to go sifting through HoME, but I
don't think I want to do that tonight.
VardaValar1: I'll bet there could be other nights : )
Eonwe Valar: There's always the chance that what I'm looking for caught
my eye while I was researching another item.
VardaValar1: That's usual, aye.
Eonwe Valar: My article on Fionwë/Eonwë took me through those
particular books, so it's possible that's when I saw it.
VardaValar1: Good luck finding it. You have a good start on it.
Eonwe Valar: Anyway, try out the sortable table and see why it's
important to have all the info possible :}
VardaValar1: To allow sorting, heh
FarmerMaggotV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: ok, off to look at it
VardaValar1: Aiya Farmer : )
FarmerMaggotV has left the room.
VardaValar1: He said he was having trouble with his laptop battery
Eonwe Valar: Oh, it sorts just fine, you're just going to see a whole
lot of - at the top of columns with chunks of missing info, heh :}
VardaValar1: Lost track. Where is the sortable?
FarmerMaggotV has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Go to the Games Page, look at the bottom of the Main
Navigation frame.
Eonwe Valar: (Left Frame)
Eonwe Valar: That's just its temporary home.
VardaValar1: hehe - where it says Sortable Game Player Tables :-)
FarmerMaggotV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Aye :}
ArPharazonV: it looks nice
Eonwe Valar: Btw, the update date at the bottom is automatic.
Eonwe Valar: So that's not a piece of info you have to track.
ArPharazonV: some things don't seem to work right, though... first aid
and professions don't seem to sort right
Eonwe Valar: Please note that it only sorts a single column.
ArPharazonV: well, yes, but still
Eonwe Valar: hmm, I see what you mean
Eonwe Valar: A 300 is below a 0.
Eonwe Valar: I'm going to have to look into that.
ArPharazonV: indeed :-)
ArPharazonV: they seem to sort by name rather than what they should
actually sort by
VardaValar1: Can't seem to scroll to the right to see Fishing etc
Eonwe Valar: Open it in a new window.
VardaValar1: Guess I need to go to Internet Explorer
Eonwe Valar: It's a slight side-effect. I meant it to sort by highest
number in that profession with the Guild Name as Secondary.
Eonwe Valar: This is why I put a temporary link up. So people an take a
look, tell me what's missing, and I can work out the bugs before it
gets a final home.
VardaValar1: I'd rather know who had what profession than the number in
it, as we generally have no idea what that is.
ArPharazonV: that works for cooking, at least
Eonwe Valar: The Professions are listed by type as well as number.
ArPharazonV: that doesn't seem the case :-)
Eonwe Valar: Fishing,Cooking, and First Aid, as well as Level, are the
only strictly numerical columns.
ArPharazonV: well, First Aid and Professions are the ones sorting by
name, and not their skill-number
ArPharazonV: cooking appears to sort by skill and then name, so that
seems right
Eonwe Valar: They sort by skill number, but they're sorting by Guild
Name as well. It works exactly as I programmed it, just not as I
intended it :}
VardaValar1: How are we supposed to know the skill number if the member
doesn't tell us?
Oessala has entered the room.
Orodreth V has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Orodreth. Welcome to After-meeting : )
ArPharazonV: hey Orodreth
Eonwe Valar: We won't. I merely tried to mirror the columns in the
Lothar Players page.
Eonwe Valar: I can relatively easily make it so we can't sort by
Fishing, Cooking, or First Aid if everyone would prefer.
Oessala: you know...I was in here....
Oessala: /me wonders how the window closed without him knowing
VardaValar1: Welcome back then : )
ArPharazonV: I don't see a message of you leaving...
Orodreth V: I blame Morgoth.
Orodreth V: oh! found an interesting link
ArPharazonV: sure, his spirit must have gotten through to your computer
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, some other things are not quite working correctly I
notice.
Orodreth V: but windows just broke, so I guess I need to restart
VardaValar1: I'm going to leave this room and turn out the light for
Fangorn, since he fell asleep
Eonwe Valar: ok :}
VardaValar1: Namarie!
Orodreth V has left the room.
Oessala has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Take care :}
(19:46:19) VardaValar1 has left the room.
Orodreth V has entered the room.
Orodreth V: hey, self invite works for me now
Oessala has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: congratulatoins then :-)
Orodreth V: http://oddlots.digitalspace.net/leithian/ was the link
Orodreth V: it's a retelling of the story of Beren and Luthien in
screenplay-type format
Orodreth V: it's not completed, and the last update was over 2 years
ago, but it's a considerable amount of work
Orodreth V: It starts with Beren in the throne room, and moves on from
there, with plenty of flashbacks, retellings, and the like.
Orodreth V: Thingol asks him what he does:
Orodreth V: Beren: Orcs. Um. I, uh, I hunt them. Sir. [winces] Thingol:
Really. And do you foresee a long-term career in this . . . admirable
venture of yours?
Orodreth V: :-)
Orodreth V: ...did I just murder the convo here?
ArPharazonV: going to the end of the story, I see a conversation
between...
ArPharazonV: Beren, Luthien, Namo and Finrod?
ArPharazonV: fun, Measse's also present
Orodreth V: Luthien: What are they going to do? Lock me up in my room?
I'm not a child of ninety.
Orodreth V: one of the best quotes. :D
ArPharazonV: hehe
ArPharazonV: I didn't raise Luthien to be a beggar or a gangster's moll
-- I expect her to take over the administration of Doriath after me.
ArPharazonV: We have lots of people who can kill Orcs, and with eons
more experience than you've got, so I don't really see a place for your
talents in our organization.
ArPharazonV: good stuff!
ArPharazonV: Melian: [mindspeech] He's just a boy who's fallen in love
with a stranger he met in the woods. [longish pause]
ArPharazonV: Thingol: [mindspeech] --It was different for us...Melian:
[mindspeech, sighing] It's always different...
ArPharazonV: I should read this in full, it seems very good
AuSteinM has left the room.
Oessala: haha
Oessala: yea, that comes up constantly
Oessala: luthien is always saying, "It's just like my parents all over
again, and you let THEM get away with it!"
Oessala: or words to that effect
ArPharazonV: heh
MrMonkey2002Blah has left the room.
Srekal86 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: well, guess I'd better save and send
ArPharazonV: saved
Eonwe Valar: Thanks
Eonwe Valar: I'
Eonwe Valar: ll sit here a couple more minutes while I work with this
program.
ArPharazonV: allright
Eonwe Valar: hmm, what I thought it was isn't even part of the script.
ArPharazonV: :-)
ArPharazonV: well, Namarie
ArPharazonV: time for bed
Eonwe Valar: sleep well
ArPharazonV: I've put it off for far too long!
Eonwe Valar: Mara ,esta
Eonwe Valar (21:24:56): mesta even
top
