Varda Valar: Tolkien:
Varda Valar: Our new member's name is Mithrellas, which is in the Unfinished Tales.
Ar-Pharazon-V: I thought I read something different in the news.
Varda Valar: You did. She changed from Amarie to Mithrellas, hadn't yet gotten her characters into the kin.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah.
Varda Valar: Hadn't quite settled on the name - kept thinking about it.
Ar-Pharazon-V: And I was so looking forward to saying "Namarie Amarie"
Varda Valar: The thought crossed my mind. ;-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: brb a few minutes, got food
Varda Valar: mmm food
Varda Valar: Anyway, the name is not used in the LotR (Mithrellas) but the character is mentioned. Any idea who that is and how she figured into the background tales?
Varda Valar: (If no idea, feel free to crack a book open.)
Varda Valar: We have a mention of her in our Encyc, but not under a separate article. That would be a good thing to have, as she has a story of her own and a mystery.
Arien V: oh she was the Maiden of nimrodel who becane lost in Ithilien right?
Arien V: and who married Imrazor of Dol Amrotrh>?
Varda Valar: Right!
Varda Valar: And was an ancestress of Imrahil
Varda Valar: and likely Finduilas, mother of Boromir and Faramir
Varda Valar: since she was the daughter of Adrahil, prince of Dol Amroth
Varda Valar: Our Encyc could also use an article just for Amroth and one just for Nimrodel.
Varda Valar: I start thinking that just because they are familiar characters that they have articles already. *cough*
Lenwe has entered the room.
Varda Valar: Lenwe, aiya :-)
Lenwe: Aiya :)
Varda Valar: We were just discussing who Mithrellas was. :-)
Varda Valar: She's not named in the LotR, but is in the Unfinished Tales.
Arien V: aiya Lenwe :-)
Lenwe: Ah nice, I was going to ask who that was ;)
Varda Valar: Our new member in LotRO took that name, so it's a good character to learn a bit about.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Back. And Aiya.
Varda Valar: That was fast eating! Hope you won't need a Tums. :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Should be fine, not a major meal :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Linguistic relation to mithril?
Varda Valar: Arien gave a good summary. Would you like to repeat it for Lenwe?
Varda Valar: Likely
Lenwe: dinner was delayed here, so I made a plate of cheesecake and chocolate mousse
Ar-Pharazon-V: ...To many people, that would sound delicious, no doubt.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Personally I like neither cheese nor chocolate :-)
Varda Valar: I like them both a lot. :-)
Lenwe: haha, same here
Lenwe: I have a weakness for all sweets though
Varda Valar: Sweets to the sweet?
Arien V:     she was the Maiden of nimrodel who becane lost in Ithilien right?
and who married Imrazor of Dol Amrotrh>?
Ar-Pharazon-V: I like most sweets. And a couple of sours. But no chocolate.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Letting Arien continue :-)
Varda Valar: No problem. Plenty of volunteers for your chocolate!
Arien V: that was all ^^
Arien V: i didnt say any more
Arien V: i think though the details are inexact
Arien V: she was a sylvan elf who accompanied nimrodel as she journeyed to the southern haven where she wanted to leave for Valinor
Varda Valar: Was letting you copy/paste since Lenwe misssed it.
Arien V: she got lost in Dor en Ernil it is said .. and there she met Imrazor of Numenor
Lenwe: I don't think I have a copy of the Unfinished Tales over here
Ar-Pharazon-V: I wonder how this relates to the naming of Dol Amroth. Why would a handmaiden of Nimrodel suggest the place be named after her lady's lover?
Varda Valar: Nimrodel planned to go with Prince Amroth (both Sindar), going to get married. Mithrellas was one of her companions, but the whole group got lost before reaching the dock.
Ar-Pharazon-V: I'd rather expect it to be called Dol Nimrodel or something.
Varda Valar: Didn't Amroth have a hand in the building of the port?
Ar-Pharazon-V: Did he? That'd explain it.
Varda Valar: Nimrodel had the stream amed after her.
Ar-Pharazon-V: No reason they can't both be named after her.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Especially at such a distance.
Varda Valar: Amroth was on the ship sailing to Valinor from that port, realized Nimrodel was not aboard, and jumped off trying to swim back to her. He drowned in the attempt.
Ar-Pharazon-V: ..And thus, ended up in Valinor anyway.
Varda Valar: So as one who helped build the port and dying just outside it, they may have named the port for him.
Varda Valar: Right, but at least he tried.
Ar-Pharazon-V: True, though :-)
Varda Valar: We know that Mithrellas left Imrazor and tried apparently to return to Nimrodel. Then no one knows what happened to her.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Many dangers lurking about.
Varda Valar: Apparently something caused a problem for Nimrodel's party so that she missed the boat. It was probably the same thing that caused Mithrellas to be separated.
Varda Valar: Imrazor rescued Mithrellas, letting her stay with him, and took her to wife.
Varda Valar: Apparently she wasn't that big on staying with him, because after giving him a boy and girl, she slipped off into the woods never to be seen again.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Still a longer time than it sounds.
Varda Valar: So those were two half-elves that were not of the ones the Valar gave a choice to.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Ooh, right.
Varda Valar: Two children? Fair length of time. It doesn't say how old they were.
Varda Valar: We don't know if she was visiting with Nimrodel outside and found her, or if she was killed by whatever originally broke up the party.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Or tripped and fell over a cliff, we just don't know!
Varda Valar: True.
Lenwe has left the room.
Varda Valar: There was speculation that due to the age, and past crossings in the royal families, that a daughter of Amroth and Nimrodel would be expected to marry Thranduiil's son. Or vice versa.
Lenwe has entered the room.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Poor Legolas, bereft of a betrothed before she was conceived.
Varda Valar: Welcome back.
Lenwe: Thanks :)
Varda Valar: Chances are that she was born in Valinor and he gets to meet her there.
Varda Valar: Maybe even introduce her and Gimli.
Ar-Pharazon-V: That works!
Varda Valar: Some perks to that form of immortality.
Ar-Pharazon-V: "Gimli... oh, the dwarf who had a thing for my grandmother!"
Varda Valar: hehehe
Varda Valar: Nimrodel was from Lorien, and a Sinda, but I don't know that she was related to Galadriel.
Varda Valar: More likely related to Celeborn who was also a Sinda?
Ar-Pharazon-V: Was Amroth not her son?
Varda Valar: Not that I know of.
Varda Valar: He was an elvenking. He was from Lorien. He was Sinda.
Ar-Pharazon-V: *googles*
Varda Valar: Galadriel was considered Noldo.
Ar-Pharazon-V: "In earlier versions of the legendarium, Amroth was briefly Galadriel and Celeborn's son, brother to Celebrían, but this idea was dropped."
Ar-Pharazon-V: Fair enough.
Varda Valar: Ok, so that was a version. Interesting.
Varda Valar: I looked up Amroth to be sure, and did build (had built) Dol Amroth.
Varda Valar: So if Amroth is a brother of Celebrian, that would make him a nephew of Arwen's?  :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Uncle?
Varda Valar: So Legolas would marry his friend's wife's nephew
Varda Valar: argh, uncle
Varda Valar: The daughter would be the niece
Ar-Pharazon-V: *thinks* cousin
Ar-Pharazon-V: second cousin?
Varda Valar: cousin, ok.
Ar-Pharazon-V: No, just cousin.
Varda Valar: *attempts to unscramble brain. Fails*
Varda Valar: Back to Mithrellas.
Varda Valar: We have a mystery because we don't know what happened to her, if she left for duty to Nimrodel's calling her, or had a mishap.
Varda Valar: Did Nimrodel go hunting down her scattered party? Did she allow Mithrellas to wait until the children were grown enough before having to leave?
Varda Valar: In any case, Mithrellas gave elven blood to the humans of Dol Amroth, and it was seen by Legolas in Imrahil, so it went to the royal line.
Varda Valar: Elven ancestry has its perks. :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Must be quite diluted.
Varda Valar: Agreed.
Ar-Pharazon-V: But then again, it stayed in Aragorn too.
Varda Valar: Their lifespans may have been increased too.
Varda Valar: The Numenoreans of Gondor had long lives, such as Faramir. A problem for him when he married Eowyn.
Arien V: well somehow a nobler, almost elven trait was visible in Faramir, denethor's  son, but not so in Boromir the older one
Varda Valar: Aye.
Varda Valar: They looked different.
Varda Valar: Sounds like a bit of an elven genetic trait in there.
Varda Valar: If Faramir had married one of Aragorn's daughters, the children might have had pointed ears from not just one side.
Varda Valar: Could have brought out buried elvish traits.
Varda Valar: Any further comments, speculation? Other topics?
Arien V: maybe their children surely played with each other i gfuess?
Varda Valar: Definitely. :-)
Arien V: knew each other maybe married even? to get into speculation mode :)?
Varda Valar: One has to wonder who Elboron married eventually.
Varda Valar: Royalty tened to marry royalty.
Varda Valar: *tended
Ar-Pharazon-V: For a moment I thought you said the children might have had pointed ears on one side.
Varda Valar: hehe - asymmetry
Ar-Pharazon-V: Which would be interesting for half elves.
Arien V: one pointed ear one human ear *flails*#
Varda Valar: That would make a person grow long hair to cover the ears. :-)
Lenwe has left the room.
Varda Valar: I just figured pointed tips, nothing really visible.
Ar-Pharazon-V: well-positioned headband
Ar-Pharazon-V: Like Spock in one of the Star Trek movies, I think?
Varda Valar: Aye :-)
Varda Valar: The one with the whales.
Ar-Pharazon-V: That's the one.
Varda Valar: Why is your circlet so wide?
Ar-Pharazon-V: Special model, goes over the ears!
Ar-Pharazon-V: latest fashion
Varda Valar: *picks up  a hammer that jumps up to the hand*
Varda Valar: *arrrrrffff*
Varda Valar: *hammer bounds cheerfully back to the shelf*
top

Varda Valar: After-meeting!
Ar-Pharazon-V: Did it just bark?
Varda Valar: It did.
Varda Valar: Must be a wooden hammer?
Varda Valar: /duck
Ar-Pharazon-V: then it'd go quack!
Varda Valar: Ok, I need to go see Elwing, feed her before she has to go home. She's been here playing LotRO with us. :-)
Varda Valar: Namarie for now. Will scroll or at least read the transcript.
Ar-Pharazon-V: namarie somewhat!
Varda Valar: hehe
Arien V: say aiya to elwing from us and namarie to her :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Personal gaming!

Ar-Pharazon-V: For flashgaming, let's start with 3 smaller-ish games.
Ar-Pharazon-V: http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/yeti_rampage is a platformer where you play a rather ugly yeti and your job is to destroy stuff and eat people. Especially the last bit can be a bit gory, so consider yourself warned.
Ar-Pharazon-V: http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/rex_origins is the second one! Silly game, silly song, you play a kid with long arms who wants to be a t-rex, and needs to throw basketballs to get the t-rex potions. As you progress, your arms get shorter and shorter, because, well, t-rex :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: http://www.kongregate.com/games/FizzerWL/warlight is the last game, a variation on Risk, but with simultaneous turns.
Ar-Pharazon-V: And increasingly different levels/opponents.
Ar-Pharazon-V: *difficult

Ar-Pharazon-V: Blizzard gaming!
Ar-Pharazon-V: heroes of the storm: Just building up some more xp, not much progress. An old brawl this week, a one-lane brawl for which I already had the portrait, so eh
Ar-Pharazon-V: Hearthstone: Simple brawl this week, encounter at the crossroads, just random decks for the class you choose.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Besides getting some xp on the classes, I also decided to work on the adventures a bit more, and finished the last 2 class challenges for League of Explorers.
Ar-Pharazon-V: And this week I plan to work on Karazhan :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: WoW:
Arien V: :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Maxed out the Nightfallen and Wardens reputation, getting stuff from both vendors while I was there. Several pets, including a very cute warden owl, and some recipes.
Ar-Pharazon-V: I should get the other 3 factions to exalted within a week, because they're less than one emissary away.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Raiding: More bosses killed on heroic, up to the Star-guy whose name I can never remember.
Ar-Pharazon-V: On normal Nighthold we also went straight to Elisande and Gul'dan because some of our raid got the necklace to open the portal system. Because we went straight to them tonight and killed them, I also got my fourth quest item, so next time I'll have the necklace too!
Ar-Pharazon-V: Still getting a few new world quests now and then, so that's continuing, though not much to add there. I did complete another pet master, and a few more are getting quite close. Of course now that the ones I need start to get less and less, I'll also make slower progress.
Ar-Pharazon-V: I did level a few more pets for the Family Familiar achievement, including one I'd previously missed for my list. 2 more to go and I should be able to clear all the fights remaining.
Ar-Pharazon-V: This week's weekly quest was winning 4 battlegrounds. Took a while, had quite a few losses, but I got there, and ended up at honor level 23. Slow going, but it's not too important.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Also my second-last rare archeology quest done! A nifty little almost-a-toy-but-doesn't-go-in-toybox item that allows you to set out a small starfield in which people can fly up. Could just be fun, but also maybe useful for getting on top of some places if you can draw a field around them.
Arien V: just found this in a you tube playlist ^^
Arien V: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUG6ZWAU434&index=27&list=RDrt4CQc1MSso
Ar-Pharazon-V: So only one more rare archeology quest to go until I've done them all.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Nice :-)
Arien V: i did one of the archeology quests which was quite fun
Ar-Pharazon-V: Yes! This one just took a while because it required 25 solves, and some of the Nightborne solves can take quite a few fragments.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Out of my last 9 solves I had 5 tapestries for 120 each, and 2 letter openers for 100 each. So that took some work.
Ar-Pharazon-V: And lastly, old appearances: Normal Auchenai Crypts done, not having much luck on the two items I want from Heroic Auchenai Crypts yet. But I hope that will change in the near future :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: And that's my report for the week!
Arien V: grats :-)
Arien V: nice
Varda Valar: Just one more. Sounds like a game. :-)
Varda Valar: Thanks, Phar. :-)
Arien V: and this is always a gem :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q71A5hPk2mM&index=27&list=RDrt4CQc1MSso
Varda Valar: Watched it. Thank you.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Heh, just went from playing Rexxar in Heroes of the Storm to playing Rexxar in Hearthstone.
Varda Valar: :-)
Arien V: :-) hehe
Arien V: brb ..
Ar-Pharazon-V: Note: When you play Hearthstone, don't be too quick to give up. I just won after being behind in health 14 to 30.. and later on 1 to 14.
Varda Valar: Woot!
Ar-Pharazon-V: And he just couldn't take out my final health point before I killed him :-)
Varda Valar: Good advice for anything
Varda Valar: hah!
Ar-Pharazon-V: Guess he didn't expect that!
Varda Valar: ^^
Lenwe has entered the room.
Lenwe: Must be the after-after-after meeting ;) The dinner bell rang, and looks like I was disconnected somewhere in there too
Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiyata :-)
Arien V: back ^^
Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiyata to you too!
Ar-Pharazon-V: Say that 10 times fast...
Arien V: ehe
Lenwe: ha
Arien V: all right bed time now .. good night all and namarie for now :-) happy gaming
Ar-Pharazon-V: Namarie!
Arien V (AriehnV) has left the room.
Ar-Pharazon-V: saving and sending transcript

How did they show appreciation in Middle-earth and beyond?
