Ar-Pharazon-V: Not that I know, anyway.
perseid28: A new graphics card should be arriving for my computer this week, which I hope will me to run the Pelennor Field instances in LotRO. And Gondor in general :P

perseid28: The computer's finally showing its age
Ar-Pharazon-V: I should probably get some upgrades for Legion as well, but.. it's holding on so far.

perseid28: I've started some Clash Royale on the phone, and restarted playing DotA
Arien V: nice :-)
Arien V: What's Clash Royale?
perseid28: hmm, how to explain... ;)
perseid28: the objective is to destroy the enemy's towers before they get yours
perseid28: and you have troop cards that you deploy, each costing a certain amount of mana
perseid28: kind of like DotA/LoL meets Magic
Ar-Pharazon-V: Turn-based?
perseid28: it's 1v1 multiplayer
perseid28: no, real-time
Ar-Pharazon-V: interesting
perseid28: it's fun and quite addicting
Arien V: sounds cool :-)

Arien V: Blizzard gaming :

Check out the recent hotfixes as well.
Arien V: So far Eonwe's notes :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Bookmarking that story roundup blog, will be useful when I want to download the stuff.
Arien V: any comments on Legion ? how do you enjoy it?
Arien V: i absolutely love it so far .. its so cool :-)
Arien V: and everyone without exception i talkedto does at this stage
Ar-Pharazon-V: I've barely gotten started, really :-) Been a busy week and I always like to put a bit of a delay in it to avoid the early rushes and the early bugs.
Ar-Pharazon-V: But did get my demon hunter starting experience done, and finally went in with my main druid tonight. Looking pretty so far!
Arien V: indeed :-)
Arien V: i am enjoying exploring some of the class campaigns , getting artefacts for various classes , and try to do different regions with each
Arien V: so enjoying it :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Various classes at once? Keeping busy, then.
Arien V: not really continuously but at least sorting the weapons out
Arien V: so i can continue :-) and make use of some of the drops
Arien V: but moving on:

Arien V: Diablo 3:
A new blog is up: Developer Chronicles: Wrath of the Wastes .

Arien V: Starcraft 2:

Arien V: anything to add , Phari?

Ar-Pharazon-V: Another Hearthstone Karazhan wing out.. the Spire, I think.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Otherwise, nothing general.
Arien V: all right thanking you :-)

Ar-Pharazon-V: Me? Not really.
Ar-Pharazon-V: That'd be up to Varda.
Arien V: no cant do anything about it either sorry folks
Arien V: anyway think theres spaces and new lines after each date and you get it :-)

Arien V: thats the formal bit over then :-) do you have any idea for a Tolkien topic or a Tolkien moment?
Ar-Pharazon-V: Wondering if I can come up with something WoW(Legion)related, perhaps.. like the "artifacts", special named weapons, and their significance :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: But that might be a longer topic, so if you want something faster, go ahead!
Arien V: no its fine if you like :-)
Arien V: very nice idea and there are several in Tolkiens World
Ar-Pharazon-V: Hmhm.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Swords and daggers, mainly.
Arien V: do you want to keep it Lotro or across all his works?
Ar-Pharazon-V: Depends on how long you want to make it :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: If you're tired, better to stick with LotR.
Arien V: all right it can always be contiued next week :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Yep.
Arien V: now well lets include The hobbit though .. somehow they belong together :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: They overlap as well.
Arien V: aye
Arien V: So let us start with the ones that turn up first
Ar-Pharazon-V: Am I forgetting any or are those the 3 swords found in the troll cave?
Arien V: nope i think that are the first ones :-)
Arien V: the nameless Numenorean shortsword
Arien V: Glamdring and the other one whose name i forgot but i dont do names :-D
Ar-Pharazon-V: Nameless at first, but named by Bilbo when it saw battle.
Arien V: yup
Ar-Pharazon-V: Wasn't it Gondolinean?
Ar-Pharazon-V: I think all 3 were.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Well of course it was, it glowed blue when orcs were near.
Ar-Pharazon-V: That could've been awkward if the glow still showed up while Bilbo was wearing the Ring.
Arien V: aye but was Bilbos sword from there as well?
Ar-Pharazon-V: Sting did glow.
Arien V: aye they were all Elven swords and had this very handy quality
Arien V: But as far as i remember only the two longswords were mentioned to come from Gondolin
Arien V: unless i am wrong .. which is very well possible
Ar-Pharazon-V: I think it was of similar make. In any case, it certainly wasn't Numenorean.
Arien V: yeah true
Arien V: Merrys and Pippins Dagger were Numenorean all right
Ar-Pharazon-V: Yes. The ones that they found in the Barrow.
Arien V: But Sting ...and ah i remember Orcist and Glamdring were the names :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Yes :-)
Arien V: Orcrist was given to Thorin and Glamdring to Gandalf
Ar-Pharazon-V: Glamdring in particular was Turgon's, right?
Ar-Pharazon-V: If Turgon was strong enough, he might even have dual-wielded them.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Amazing how such powerful swords end up in trolls' collections. Like finding an epic on a murloc...
Arien V: it sais"that the king of Gondolin once wore" about Glamdring , the "Foe-Hammer"
Ar-Pharazon-V: But I also remember something about Orcrist being paired with Glamdring.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Let me fetch the book.
Arien V: it sais about it onlyu "it was a famous blade , made for the orc wars"
Ar-Pharazon-V: Fair enough.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah, fellowship of the ring:
Arien V: give me your quote :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: When the Fellowship prepares to leave Rivendell, Gandalf was said to be wearing
Ar-Pharazon-V: "Glamdring, the mate of Orcrist"
Ar-Pharazon-V: That could mean various things, of course.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Simply that they had been hoarded closely together for so many years.
Ar-Pharazon-V: But one could take it to mean Turgon used it as well, as backup or offhand or something :-)
Arien V: maybe :-)
Arien V: right then next uip
Arien V: .. ah yes.. Anduril ..
Arien V: the Flame of the West - Aragorn's sword
Ar-Pharazon-V: Originally Narsil, blade of Elendil. Do we know its origin?
Arien V: when Isildur held it , it bore a different name
Arien V: Other than it was passed on from father to the heir , not amongs his family , not that i know of
Ar-Pharazon-V: Could be Noldorin, could be Numenorean. Could possibly even be a gift from Tol Eressea.
Arien V: Ohtar carried the sword away from the battlefield where Elendil and Isildur fell
Ar-Pharazon-V: I was going to ask whether the sword was kept in Arnor or stayed in Rivendell, before realizing that Aragorn actually kept the broken thing with him in the books.
Arien V: points to story "Errand of Fate"
Arien V: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/fiction/authors/Arien/stories/ErrandofFate.htm
Arien V: it was kept in Imladris by Elrond to keep it safe until Valandil was old enough to take the mantle
Arien V: It was symbol of the kingdom as rank and responsibility to take up the fate against Sauron
Arien V: it wasnt reforged until Aragorn was ready to take the fight to him
Ar-Pharazon-V: "It's still sharp!"
Arien V: “Narsil was wrought by Telchar of Nogrod, a dwarf of great renown during the Elder Days before the fall of Beleriand.
Arien V: there you go :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah :-D
Ar-Pharazon-V: A dwarven blade, eh. Had not expected that.
Arien V: learned probalbly from the Elves thou
Arien V: there wasnt that much dispute between them then#
Ar-Pharazon-V: Or did the Elves learn from them? :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Most probably made for the Elves though. Bit big for a dwarf ;-)
Arien V: hehe true .. i d say they probably learned from each other :-)
Arien V: other named weapons in the Lord of the Rings?
Ar-Pharazon-V: I know Legolas got a mentioned one, but don't think it was named. His gift from Galadriel, right?
Arien V: yes thats right
Ar-Pharazon-V: Perhaps not named, but definitely powerful enough to take down a wraith on wings.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Any others?
Arien V: Gutwine i think was Eomers sword
Ar-Pharazon-V: Saw some use, at least!
Arien V: i remember them fighting togehter brandishing their swords Eomer shouting "Gutwine for the Mark"#
Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah :-)
Arien V: Herugrim, king Theoden's swor
Arien V: sword
Arien V: "here is Herugrim, your ancient blade"
Ar-Pharazon-V: It pays off to have languages at your use in case you randomly need to name a weapon.
Arien V: hmm it doesnt say how the name translates does it?
Ar-Pharazon-V: Ah, but knowing Tolkien, you really think it had no translation in his head? :-)
Arien V: hehe i would think something like "the lord's wrath" ?
Arien V: taking it from germanic roots ..
Ar-Pharazon-V: http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Herugrim says it means "very fierce or cruel, savage" but I have not read any of the companion books it should come from.
Arien V: rough guess , so not that far off
Ar-Pharazon-V: indeed
Arien V: hmm
Arien V: i think thats all of them from these books
Varda Valar (VardaValar1) has entered the room.
Arien V: at least that i can think of just now
Varda Valar: Aiya Phar, Arien, and Lenwe :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Aiya!
Arien V: aiya Star Lady :-D
Arien V: we were just talking about named weapons in the hobbit and the Lord of the Rings
Varda Valar: Very good
Arien V: we named Sting, Orcrist, Glamdring, Narsil (Anduril) , Herugrim (king Theoden's sword) and Gutwine (Eomer's sword)
Varda Valar: Guthwine. Good ones
Arien V: do you know any others?
Varda Valar: Grond, One Ring
Ar-Pharazon-V: I suppose those count as weapons.
Arien V: within Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit .. ah yes of course
Arien V: Grond is valid in any case and the ring could count as weapon
Varda Valar: The ram Grond for LotR
Ar-Pharazon-V: Siege weapons do count!
Ar-Pharazon-V: Named for Morgoth's.. hammer, I think?
Varda Valar: Mace
Varda Valar: aye
Ar-Pharazon-V: close
Arien V: a mace is no hammer .. more like a bat with a wooden spiked ball at the end .. at least that's what my mace looks like :-)
Varda Valar: Good covering of the names
Varda Valar: Aye
Varda Valar: Melee whomper weapons.  ;-)
Arien V: no big agility or intelligence needed to wield it .. *dry*
Ar-Pharazon-V: In WoW hammers fall under maces ;-)
Arien V: right i think that covers then our Tolkien topic and concludes the meeting :-)
Arien V: *picks twinkly sparcly gavel from Varda*
Varda Valar: Ones I'm familiar with have spiked balls. Just looked up some pictures kind of like scepters:
Varda Valar: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mace_(weapon)
Arien V: *sparkly*
Varda Valar: Happy gaveling :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: And the Li- I mean Witch King's weapon was a morningstar, right?
Varda Valar: hehe
Arien V: *carefully hits it against silver vessel of the moon" ..
Arien V: *ting" .. sparks fly off .. uh shiny
top

Arien V: Aftermeeting :-)
Varda Valar: Nice
Varda Valar: Good question, Phar
Varda Valar: He used a morgul dagger on Frodo, not a named weapon, but special
Ar-Pharazon-V: Pff, it didn't even stay intact for the duration.
Varda Valar: I'm looking at FotR, "Flight to the Ford"and the Nazgul all have swords
Ar-Pharazon-V: Well I know he used a giant morningstar in the movie. Not sure if he had one in the book at Minas Tirith... silly movies!
Varda Valar: Aragorn calls it a knife rather than dagger
Ar-Pharazon-V: A flail! That's the word I'm looking for. Bit different from a morning star, I think?
Varda Valar: Aye, more whip like
Arien V: well . where's a whip .. there's a way *sagenod*
Ar-Pharazon-V: hehe
Varda Valar: I can hear the music when you type it. :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: We don't wanna go to war today...
Varda Valar: FotR "Knife in the Dark"also says sword and knife
Ar-Pharazon-V: The chapter title kinda gives it away.
Varda Valar: "In their haggard hands were swords of steel."
Varda Valar: Farther down it says the leader has a long sword and knife
Varda Valar: We can check the MInas Tirith reference and see if he changed up any.
Varda Valar: It's RotK "Siege of Gondor" right at the end of the chapter
Varda Valar: "He lifted high his sword and flames ran down the blade."
Varda Valar: Hmm, so on to meeting Eowyn.
Varda Valar: That's where it tells about his using the mace.
Varda Valar: It does say mace
Ar-Pharazon-V: Hmm.
Varda Valar: No mention there of other weapons. He used the mace vs Eowyn.
Varda Valar: Those are the weapons he pulls out. Could be that all were available
Ar-Pharazon-V: Got some big pockets.
Varda Valar: hehe
Varda Valar: or had them on his mounts
Varda Valar: He rode a fell beast at the Eowyn fight, that she killed. Makes her a sort of dragon slayer, although it's not really a dragon.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Close enough when telling the tale to the children!
Varda Valar: Earlier though, at the Minas Tirith, he was on a horse.
Varda Valar: Mentions his "pale sword".
Ar-Pharazon-V: Maybe he was on the horse on the fel beast.
Varda Valar: "long pale sword"
Varda Valar: heh. Shuttle craft?
Varda Valar: So he may have had a mace attached to his gear on the fell beast.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Could be.
Varda Valar: Speculation. But it is interesting that he was using a sword up until then.
Varda Valar: Ok, a morningstar resembles a mace but is spiky
Varda Valar: Maces have flanges or small knobs.
Varda Valar: Googling
Ar-Pharazon-V: I thought the morningstar was the one on the chain, but that's the flail.
Varda Valar: hmm flail. Two types. Copy paste:
Varda Valar: The term flail refers to two different weapons: a long, two-handed infantry weapon with a cylindrical head, and a shorter weapon with a round metal striking head. The defining characteristic of both is that they involve a separate striking head attached to a handle by a flexible rope, strap, or chain.
Varda Valar: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morning_star_(weapon)
Varda Valar: Morgenstern was the first morningstar, German. I've heard that as a person's name, so now we know where that came from.
Varda Valar: Pardon, tangenting here. *skids to a halt*
Varda Valar: Hey, we're eddycational. ;-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Yep. In Dutch it'd be a "morgen ster" too, or "ochtend ster" but we basically call it a "goedendag" which means a "good day", I suppose related to "good morning" :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ec-xh1VsO04 is the video I was reminded of when I made the comment of putting the horse on the fel beast.
Ar-Pharazon-V: But a bit more extreme.
Varda Valar: Gandalf's comment about being Good morninged by the son of Belladonna Took.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Yep, it carries one more meaning over here ;-)
Varda Valar: Lot of stags!
Ar-Pharazon-V: The story behind that, as you may know, is that the druid stag form can be mounted by other players. Before this "bug" was fixed, they could also be mounted by other stag druids.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Hence the stackable stag.
Varda Valar: A fun bug. :-)
Varda Valar: I had a druid stag, form, really liked it, on a were.
Ar-Pharazon-V: They're fun.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Anyway, guess I'll start my gaming report since I gotta go soon?
Varda Valar: Good idea
Varda Valar: Happy to catch you guys. Got in just ahead of a storm, had to drive slower than we'd like since we were in the storm most of the drive.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Ouch. Still went faster than the storm then, though?

Ar-Pharazon-V: Right! Phar's gaming!
Ar-Pharazon-V: 3 flashgames.
Ar-Pharazon-V: 2 smaller games and a rather big one.
Ar-Pharazon-V: http://www.kongregate.com/games/stupidtester/the-stupidity-test is the first one, found it on another site too this week but didn't know it was already from 2009. Small quiz like thing, where you need to pay attention to the shapes and colours etc on the screen. Can trip you up in places, but the questions and answers are the same every playthrough so you can just try again until you get it right.
Ar-Pharazon-V: http://www.kongregate.com/games/vizgl/tower-of-beauty is the second one, but rather more replayable. In fact it's pretty similar to a larger game with more levels that Fladrif once introduced me too, but I don't remember what it's called.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Extend your tower as high as possible with blobby creatures, without falling over and hitting the spikes at the sides.
Ar-Pharazon-V: http://www.kongregate.com/games/gameinabottle/gemcraft-chapter-0 is the last one, a longer tower defense game. Prequel in the series, I suppose, that's what chapter 0 usually means ;-) Make gems, put em in towers, fire at enemies.
Varda Valar: (Drove out from under the storm in time to reach the gas station and house, then just after we got home the rain hit.)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Get experience, get skills and passive abilities, make the rest of the campaign easier.
Ar-Pharazon-V: "It's coming! Hurry! Get in the house!"
Ar-Pharazon-V: Anyway

Ar-Pharazon-V: Blizzard gaming!
Ar-Pharazon-V: Been a bit of a slow week for me, stuff to do outside the pc (gasp!).
Ar-Pharazon-V: No D3 done, though I wanted to, the hours just flew by.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Did do more Heroes of the Storm. Most of my heroes are starting to get closer to level 8 now. Haven't been able to play with the WoW friend much, because he preferred to do more Legion ;-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: Hearthstone: Slowly picking up after the last level-gains again, seeing how long it'll take to 44. Seems pretty long!
Ar-Pharazon-V: New season started this month, based on the Burning Legion, with a new warlocky cardback for it.
Ar-Pharazon-V: This week's brawl was a weird one, based on the Karazhan adventure. Both players have Medivh as a character, and all the cards are various types of portals, most of them unique to the brawl, for various amounts of mana and effects. Portals being the ones that summon random units, there is a lot of randomness involved.
Ar-Pharazon-V: As such, it took me a while to get the luck required.
Ar-Pharazon-V: WoW:
Ar-Pharazon-V: Legion yay! But I haven't actually done much with the new content yet.
Ar-Pharazon-V: The first day Legion came out, tuesday, I actually didn't install the expansion yet, but took the time to finish one of my last Warlords of Draenor projects, getting all the Tanaan treasures.
Ar-Pharazon-V: This got me the last remaining WoD quest achievement and a new title. Even when returning to the older content later on, if I have time for that this expansion, I will probably have no need to visit Tanaan Jungle, because I'm now done with the place.
Ar-Pharazon-V: I also continued visiting the older instances for the unlocking of item appearances. Wrapped up Uldaman pretty quickly, but then came Dire Maul. 3 instances together, 20 appearances missing from a lot of bosses.
Ar-Pharazon-V: I decided to tackle all 3 at once, and have so far gotten 13 items out of 20. Not going too badly.
Ar-Pharazon-V: I also got the main hand legendary weapon from Illidan this week, after a long time, increasing my legendary weapon collection on the druid. I can't actually wield them, and because a guildmate of mine got the main hand for himself a while ago on his own after I'd already gotten the offhand, we already had the guild achievement. So no new achievement to show for it.
Arien V: ((well its bed time for me folks , iam very tired :-) ,, i ll read the rest in the manuscript*
Ar-Pharazon-V: Still, fun to progress in a collection.
Ar-Pharazon-V: Namarie :-)
Varda Valar: Namarie!
Ar-Pharazon-V: But I did do some Legion!
Arien V: ((and late insert i saw Eonwe shortly on Lothar on Wendnesday :-) )) [Note: WoW, our Alliance branch server is Lothar]
Varda Valar: Good to hear!
Ar-Pharazon-V: Finally installed the thing on thursday, and since then slowly managed to create a demon hunter called Callidiana (continuing the tradition of naming my characters Cal-something) and get her through the starting experience. Finished that earlier today.
Arien V (AriehnV) has left the room.
Ar-Pharazon-V: After that I took my druid main to the Broken Isles content at last, teleporting along with Dalaran, getting my class hall set up and starting the questline for my first artifact, the daggers for feral spec.
Ar-Pharazon-V: But then it was well into meeting time, and I thought it best to save it for another time.
Ar-Pharazon-V: And that is my news for today!
Ar-Pharazon-V: This week, too!
Varda Valar: Thank you, Phar :-)
Ar-Pharazon-V: And now I shall save and send transcript.
Varda Valar: yay!
Varda Valar: and then sleep fast!
