Before-meeting
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
ArPharazonV: Aiya :-)
VardaValar1: Aiya Phar :-)
ArPharazonV: Still in 5.9 for now!
VardaValar1: Seems to be working
ArPharazonV: Like I said, up to March 15. I'm wondering what'll happen after that.
VardaValar1: Figured we'd manage when you needed to switch. Don't worry too much. Rather have you able to be here than simple convenience
VardaValar1: Does Skype have a good way for us to make a transcript?
VardaValar1: like change to simple text?
VardaValar1: or just a transcript at all?
VardaValar1: brb, no rush
ArPharazonV: It's easy to "copy all" and put it in a text document, minimum editing necessary as I recall. I just don't know if there's a limit to the amount of conversation it'll store.
ArPharazonV: Really though, what I went through and the AIM version thing are two different problems.
ArPharazonV: After all, it also happened in later version, and Pidgin.
ArPharazonV: So even when 5.9 fails, I should be able to do this with 7. I just don't know if I can mess around with the transcript in that one :-)
VardaValar1: back
VardaValar1: Do you do much to it now? I strip out all the formatting from what is sent.
ArPharazonV: Right now I don't do anything. But I was more talking about the settings in AIM itself, like being able to view/save with or without timestamps.
VardaValar1: The tables in mine don't strip out, one reason yours is so nice.
ArPharazonV: I have no idea what's possible in 7.
VardaValar1: We can cut off timestamps.
ArPharazonV: I don't get tables in 5.9, might be able to disable them in 7.
ArPharazonV: Not sure how much digging in the settings you've done.
VardaValar1: Can't find how to disable the tables. Maybe someone else can see a way.
VardaValar1: I can disable timestamps for looking at the chat, but they still show on the logs.
ArPharazonV: In 5.9, if I save while timestamps are on, it saves with, and the other way around, even if it's the same meeting.
VardaValar1: hmm, it has a css file with it referring to table settings.
VardaValar1: Saves both ways?
VardaValar1: Sounds inefficient on data storage, unless they are different views.
ArPharazonV: In 7? Wouldn't know.
VardaValar1: Pulling up LotRO to check for signs of life or unlife.
VardaValar1: Any Arien sign? Might be in Rift
ArPharazonV: *checks*
VardaValar1: Thanks
ArPharazonV: is in WoW and is poked!
VardaValar1: yay!
AriehnV has entered the room.
AriehnV: Aiya all :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Aiya Sunshine :-)
VardaValar1: Invitations made
AriehnV: Uh Varda?
VardaValar1: Aye?
VardaValar1: Problem?
AriehnV: do you know that the holidayvacation spot link on the humor page on the website doesnt work?# [Note: Tolkien, Lite: humor in text section. Also Contributor section. Repaired.]
VardaValar1: Did not konw that. Thanks!
VardaValar1: *know
VardaValar1: Which spot ton the website, what page?
VardaValar1: My day for typos, not going to help coding. ;-)
VardaValar1: just an url would help
AriehnV: I tried to show it to a guy in rift i tried to scout so he gets an idea of entry posts on the site but it didnt work .. yeah hang on i ll show you
AriehnV: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/humor/vacation/indexVac.htm
VardaValar1: Thanks, copy paste here would be great
VardaValar1: nice, thanks, checking
VardaValar1: Show him articles or stories or poetry instead?
AriehnV: he might be scared then ^^ . dont think he knows that much but he has read the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings
VardaValar1: That's a not-working link all right
VardaValar1: Find out what he likes to write or draw and show him that section?
VardaValar1: or what he would like to read?
AriehnV: but i ll look for something simple which i am surew he d be able to do ^^will do
VardaValar1: hmm, I'm finding it ok from the Tolkien site, ahh, because it's on Menelvagor's section
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/frames/Tsiteindex.htm
VardaValar1: and hit Humor
VardaValar1: Takes you to
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/menelvagor/humor/humorsplash.htm
VardaValar1: You went from some other link somehow. So where was the page with that link?
VardaValar1: humor in text:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/menelvagor/humor/humortext.htm
VardaValar1: humor in images:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/menelvagor/humor/humorimages.htm
AriehnV: uhm yes slight other problem there .. it wont link that in rift because it crosses out menelVagor
AriehnV: .. language filter thing
scott92027 has entered the room.
scott92027: Aiya
VardaValar1: Aiya Elladan! :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: There's something wrong with that word? Crazy filters. We can't use any name of Alatar's in LotRO without setting off a filter either.
VardaValar1: Hope you're feeling a little better, Elladan?
AriehnV: Aiya Elladan :-)
scott92027: I am
scott92027: on the mend
VardaValar1: So, putrid feels better? :-) Good to hear!
AriehnV: thats great to hear :-D
ArPharazonV: It's good to be better, but better to be good!
VardaValar1: heh :-)
scott92027: rawr
VardaValar1: You tell 'em!

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: We have Elladan with us again. yay!
VardaValar1: We had a person pass the test in LotRO but never picked a name. Hoping to correct that.
VardaValar1: Has anyone seen Fladrif?
ArPharazonV: Yes!
VardaValar1: O good :-)
ArPharazonV: Saw him in Hearthstone yesterday, observed a game of his, and then we teamed up for a few matches in Heroes of the Storm.
VardaValar1: O fun :-)
VardaValar1: Hi to Fladrif if you see this!
ArPharazonV: I told him to come to the meeting, and he said it was about time he installed AIM again, so who knows if he shows up? ;-)
VardaValar1: We can hope.
top

VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: Nothing new posted [on the Tolkien Site]. We have not been frightfully productive lately and that includes me. *cough*

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: WoW:
VardaValar1: Fangorn, myself, and Sauron have all finished canceling our subscriptions to save money and because pandas.
VardaValar1: But for those still gaming, which would be lots of folks:
VardaValar1: See what's going on this month in WoW.
VardaValar1: See the recent hotfixes.
ArPharazonV: pandas?
VardaValar1: See what's going on this month in WoW.
Keep updated on what's going on with the Legion alpha test.
VardaValar1: (and there is no C surviving on my keyboard)
VardaValar1: Most of us pulled out back when Pandas first showed up, but some hadn't canceled the sub yet. That's been completed.
VardaValar1: We still have guildies there, still a guild.
ArPharazonV: That's... almost 2 expansions ago.
VardaValar1: Aye, true. Discovered we were still paying on some subs. Kind of a shock perusing the credit card.
VardaValar1: It's not exactly news. Probably not worth mentioning, heh.
VardaValar1: Diablo 3:
VardaValar1: Blizzard has released the Lightning Talks from Blizzcon 2015.
VardaValar1: Heroes of the Storm:
VardaValar1: There's a new patch this week, including new hero Zul the Necromancer.
VardaValar1: LotRO:
ArPharazonV: (Xul)
VardaValar1: Hobnangians is still going this weekend. Still time to go play chicken polo.
VardaValar1: (There is only Xul)
ArPharazonV: hehe
VardaValar1: Any other general gaming news or Valarite sightings?
VardaValar1: Currently have in LotRO Gorlim, Dis, Fangorn. I left to pay better attention to the meeting, but hi from them.
ArPharazonV: Hearthstone: New season started, march season, gnoll-themed.
ArPharazonV: It is suspected to be a hint towards the next expansion to be revealed :-)
ArPharazonV: WoW: Darkmoon Faire started today/last night!
ArPharazonV: And that's the general news I've got.
VardaValar1: Thank you, Phar :-)

VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: Did anyone have a topic or question or moment or suggestion for an entry question? :-)
VardaValar1: brief break while we grab books if we want to. :-)
VardaValar1: Back
VardaValar1: Ate something that is arguing back. ;-)
ArPharazonV: ouch
AriehnV: uh right
ArPharazonV: It's eating you back, from the inside!
ArPharazonV: See how you like it!
VardaValar1: Never munch silmarils.
AriehnV: uh i think there was someone who tried that .. a wolf of sort?
VardaValar1: Aye. Carcharoth
AriehnV: didnt really sit well with him ^
ArPharazonV: Ungoliant wanted to do it too, but never got the chance. Might have exploded from overdose otherwise.
AriehnV: might have been worth the try ^
VardaValar1: Might have been worth it to get rid of her. Then no Shelob.
VardaValar1: If no Shelob, Sam would not have gotten the Ring, the Mouth of Sauron would not have shown Gandalf and Aragorn the mithril shirt.
VardaValar1: And something else would have guarded Shelob's tunnel
VardaValar1: Probably an orc garrison?
VardaValar1: Other?
ArPharazonV: Fel beast?
VardaValar1: eek!
VardaValar1: Some version of it maybe with no wings?
VardaValar1: Above, they had evil spirits/fea/maiar in the Watching Stones. Maybe something like that too.
VardaValar1: Shelob plus orcs was a tough guardianship for anyone to pass that could make it up those long stairs.
VardaValar1: Had to pass the stones to reach the stairs
VardaValar1: No wonder they weren't too worried about that back door.
VardaValar1: No one expected the phial of Galadriel and two hobbits.
VardaValar1: Such a tunnel would have made elves not want to enter in the first place, like Moria but even worse for claustrophobia from a dislike of the underground.
scott92027 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Legolas might have. He went through underground tunnel systems before!
ArPharazonV: Moria, Paths of the Dead...
ArPharazonV: Well, for a given value of "before"... I think that happened before Frodo and Sam met Shelob, but not sure.
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: Legolas went through Moria but he very much did not want to go.
ArPharazonV: He just needed a bit of practice.
VardaValar1: :-)
VardaValar1: Like Gimli, if your friends went in, then you try to go too, especially in a great cause.
VardaValar1: Anyway, that was a well-guarded back door.

VardaValar1: A comment I wanted to make about the Vanyar, probably made it before during the years,
VardaValar1: they seem to have been learning to fight so they could go forth against Melkor and his minions.
VardaValar1: Might have been a touch of Odin's Valhalla in that story, but we don't see the fight training.
VardaValar1: Mainly we hear that Manwe gave them his gift of poetry.
VardaValar1: But that was also an important thing to the Norse, and the Gaelic fighters.
VardaValar1: Can't do poetry, then you're pretty dumb, in their opinion. Great system to help remember and express things of all sorts.
VardaValar1: And to be remembered for great deeds.
VardaValar1: It can then be set to many forms of music.
VardaValar1: We sure see the results of the fight training.
AriehnV: NOt to mention that if you wanted an enemies reputation destroyed nothing easier than get a bard and put his name down or put into a dishonorable light
VardaValar1: The Vanyar mopped up the minions along with the Maiar and Valar taking out the big guys.
VardaValar1: Sounds like politics in the way back. :-)
AriehnV: oh yeah ^^ thats why bards were so important and their position so powerful
AriehnV: with them a lord lived or sunk
ArPharazonV: Good career if you can get your fingers around the strings...
VardaValar1: No wonder they wanted to be patrons. Not just caring about artistic endeavors, but propaganda.
VardaValar1: Sway the mood of the people.
AriehnV: yup
ArPharazonV: Reminds me of Wyrd Sisters, the Discworld novel.
VardaValar1: Among the elves, the Teleri were the Singers. Bet they had a few choice songs about the Noldor and Feanorians in particular.
ArPharazonV: Where a duke hired a theater company to write a play to tell a different story about his murder of brother, in order to feel less guilty and go down in history as a good king.
ArPharazonV: The power of propaganda, eh?
VardaValar1: Ahh, bet that kind of thing actually happenened, too.
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: The elves also had an illusion ability that was mentioned as used to do entertainments.
VardaValar1: Holo vision? :-)
VardaValar1: That was how a vision of Gorlim's wife was used to ensnare him, that he thought he saw through a window, thought her still alive.
VardaValar1: That could make a poem, right there.
ArPharazonV: cardboard cut-out, perhaps!
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: I suspect the illusions were partly filled in by the observer's mind with suggestion from the illusionist. That would let the wife look as he would imagine. How would they know what she looked like?
ArPharazonV: That sounds about right.
ArPharazonV: They might have simply read his mind beforehand.
VardaValar1: That might be something our evil guy in our forum rp could use. Maybe needs the staff put together to do it well.
VardaValar1: Aye. Sounds elvish or Maiar.
ArPharazonV: Hmm, mind-reading as a power needs to be constrained, or will be overpowered :-)
VardaValar1: The elves that seem to use telepathy are high-powered, such as Galadriel and Elrond conversing without words with Gandalf around the campfire.
ArPharazonV: Right, but that's not just someone scouring the layers of your memory.. that's you telepathing words forward for others to read because you want it to. There's a bit of a difference.
VardaValar1: Agreed
ArPharazonV: Perhaps if Gorlim was actively thinking of his wife at the time...
VardaValar1: A suggestion, such as a loved one in that house. Then he fills it in.
ArPharazonV: That might work better.
VardaValar1: The entertainment illusionists might be doing something similar, in an agreed on system.
VardaValar1: *picks up an orindary looking hammer from the sparkly conveyor belt*
VardaValar1: *What did Aule's students send this time?*
ArPharazonV: *ducks and covers*
VardaValar1: *taps the hammer*
VardaValar1: *TAP*
VardaValar1: *Nothing else happens.*
VardaValar1: Ah hah! It was a regular work hammer, not intended as a gavel!
ArPharazonV: Still makes a good sound.
VardaValar1: *considers keeping it. No, they probably need it to make goodies.*
VardaValar1: *returns it reluctantly*

VardaValar1: After-meeting!
VardaValar1: Fangorn-(Valar) caught the Hobbit movie by surprise earlier today.
VardaValar1: There's a bit in there about the white gems that capture starlight that Thranduil wants.
VardaValar1: Tauriel explains to Kili about the stars, that they capture memories. (not book stuff, but interesting)
VardaValar1: So it seems to be a mash-up story between the silmarils and maybe the gems belonged to Thranduil's deceased wife, or held memories including those of her in their star light.
VardaValar1: It's odd that the dwarf-king showed them to Thranduil but like a tease, taking them away as he sees how much Thranduil is affected.
ArPharazonV: Bit of artistic license, eh.
VardaValar1: Later Thranduil tells Thorin that those were his gems and he wants them back, and will help Thorin against Smaug in return for them.
VardaValar1: Aye.
VardaValar1: But it's interesting as a touch of the silmaril story.
VardaValar1: At one time, Thranduil and Thingol may have been the same person in the very early JRRT notes. This may not have been as far off as it seems.
VardaValar1: Neat side bit. :-)

VardaValar1: Feel free to do your gaming news when ready!
ArPharazonV: Right, let me round up a few flashgames for the week.
ArPharazonV: Oki! Personal gaming from me!

ArPharazonV: For flashgaming, I'll give you one game which I *might* have mentioned in the past, but it came up this week again... and two new games.
ArPharazonV: http://www.kongregate.com/games/wmarsh/help-its-the-unfinished-shadow-game is a stealth/puzzle game whereby you have to fly across a level, collect all the stars and make it to the exit without being exposed in a place where guns will fire at you. Not too difficult or long.
ArPharazonV: http://www.onemorelevel.com/game/alien_transporter is a platformer you can play with 1 or 2 people, where you have to flight and land gently to bring passengers from one place to another. Can be quite difficult!
ArPharazonV: And for the last one... have a short-ish point and click adventure, viking-style, at http://www.kongregate.com/games/esthetix/piece-of-princess-cake :-)

ArPharazonV: Now for Blizzard games...
ArPharazonV: Heroes of the Storm: Met up with Fladrif, as I said! He hadn't played for over a month, he said, and had some trouble getting the hang of it again. Guess that's a warning against extended breaks ;-) Still, it was fun to see him improve sharply over 3 matches :-)
ArPharazonV: This week's sale includes the Sentinel skin for Lunara, which I'm thinking of getting. I'm close to the level 8 skin for her normal form, but the Sentinel one looks quite good!
ArPharazonV: Hearthstone: March season started! Opened a few packs, and got a new legendary from the Goblins vs Gnomes expansion. Looks okay-ish, but not one of the better ones. Still, fun to get a legendary card!
ArPharazonV: This week's tavern brawl was a bit complex, with different aspects of the game being chosen from random options by the two players, yet affecting both. Still, if you look that sort of thing.. ;-)
ArPharazonV: Diablo 3: Mastered the set dungeon for the crusader set I've been using this season, took me several hours to complete, and had to gather pretty much the exact pieces of gear I found in a build online before I finally got it done, little room for improvisation. It was on a very tight timer, and though each run lasted less than 5 minutes, it was still quite exhausting in the end :-)
ArPharazonV: Now over paragon 300, and found the relic for my follower which makes him unkillable... if I can just find a specific ring to work with that, life should become a lot easier for me and I might be able to move to Torment 10 :-)
ArPharazonV: So that's where my effort's going now.

AriehnV: right al little fun link here and it is Tolkien related btw f:-)
AriehnV: http://www.triviaplaza.com/the-lord-of-the-rings-quiz/

ArPharazonV: I also decided to start a collection of legendary powers for the Kanai's Cube feature. Whenever I get a duplicate legendary item which a unique power, I'll sacrifice it to the Cube to be able to use passively at any time. The contents of the Cube will also carry to non-season when the season ends, and I'm hoping to get a nice collection going overall.
AriehnV: oops my apologies PHARI
AriehnV: i thought you were finished
AriehnV: carry one
AriehnV: carry on even
ArPharazonV: Nah, that's fine, go ahead, I'll continue after :-)

AriehnV: movie quiz .. some of the answer options are fairly amusing
AriehnV: .. thats it ^^
ArPharazonV: aaand that's 10/10 for me on the quiz ;-)
ArPharazonV: Ah, looks like different questions each time.

ArPharazonV: Right, that just leaves WoW for me!
ArPharazonV: We tried Mythic difficulty in Hellfire Citadel this week! Got pretty close on the first fight, but didn't quite make it.
ArPharazonV: Was a good venture though, and I have good hopes that we'll be able to proceed in time.
ArPharazonV: Not much progress on toys and pets, still killing that one rare daily.. 10% droprate, sure...
ArPharazonV: Nemesis quests are going well though. Finished Deathstalker for undead killing, and got the 500 goblins in one sitting because of a group that was killing goblins in a graveyard over and over again. Bit cheesy, but it works ;-)
AriehnV: hehe
ArPharazonV: That just leaves Pandaren for the big meta-achievement, which is probably the hardest. I might pay some gold for a boost for that one. One race shouldn't be too expensive.
ArPharazonV: They only show up very rarely in Ashran, for example. Apparently not very many horde play pandas!
AriehnV: those that do usually do roleplay or raids .. at least those i know
ArPharazonV: And finally, Darkmoon Faire has started, and so has my quest resumed for the heirloom from winning the Darkmoon Arena 13 times. I've gotten 2 wins this week already, putting my total at 5. Hopefully it'll be done in a few months :-)
AriehnV: i ve got one .. of course you can kill rhat one 500 times if it works :-)
ArPharazonV: And yes, they don't seem to show up much in pvp.
ArPharazonV: Horde panda? Level 100, in draenor?
AriehnV: i can put her in Draenor yeah
AriehnV: and level 100
ArPharazonV: That would be very interesting indeed, though if it's just me in the group it's only one kill per kill, instead of counting 5 so you only have to kill 100 times. So it's 5 times as fast in a full party of 5 :-) Still, if you're up for getting killed 500 times, that'd be quite effective!
AriehnV: hehe
AriehnV: if you want a real fight i can ask couple of guildies that like to pvp ^^
AriehnV: you just got to kill me 500 times
ArPharazonV: Nah, I'd probably just die a bunch of times ;-)
ArPharazonV: Yep, pretty much. We killed the same goblin 100 times yesterday, after all.
AriehnV: just an offer :-D
AriehnV: cool well worth trying then
AriehnV: just not tonight
AriehnV: i need my bed :-\
ArPharazonV: Heh, that's fine. I'll see. If I can get a cheap boost for 5k gold or so, that's probably a lot better organized and faster too, but if not, every bit helps :-)
AriehnV: all right :-)
ArPharazonV: Right, that's my news for this week!
VardaValar1: Thank you, Phar :-)
VardaValar1: Slep well!
AriehnV: Good night all :-)
VardaValar1: *Sleep well, too
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
AriehnV: Namarie
VardaValar1: Namarie
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Tolkien Contributor link fixed for Humor, at least to the Humor site.
VardaValar1: Then you'll know what to do next go!
VardaValar1: Pardon, had the page scrolled upwards while doing webwork.
ArPharazonV: She'll get it in the transcript, I'm sure :-)
VardaValar1: That was to you, heh
VardaValar1: Ok, family would like to eat tonight for some reason.
VardaValar1: See you later!
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
VardaValar1: Namarie
VardaValar1 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: saving and sending transcript
