Before-meeting
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Aiya! :-)
VardaValar1: So Europe and Eastern are back in sync on Daylight Savings now?
ArPharazonV: Sure are! It's nearly 11 again.
ArPharazonV: Just got out of raid after killing Iron Maidens on heroic for the first time. Only 2 bosses to go!
VardaValar1: Nice :-)
VardaValar1: You have about another ten minutes to zip around, grab a real life snack, whatever.
VardaValar1: Not that you couldn't during the meeting too. ;-)
ArPharazonV: Yesh. Gotta do some stuff in garrison, my mailbox is full ;-)
VardaValar1: Sounds familiar
VardaValar1: Maybe I'll pull up a couple of stuffed mail characters in LotRO
ArPharazonV: mules?
VardaValar1: Not in this case. Both are players but also crafters.
VardaValar1: I have a lot of mules too. :-)
ArPharazonV: hehe
VardaValar1: Arien online in-game?
VardaValar1: Elladan and Gorlim are in LotRO, but Elladan is about to go out to dinner. Gorlim is in a raid group
ArPharazonV: Hmm no, not been on bnet for 20 hours
ArPharazonV: good luck to the raid!
VardaValar1: Here's hoping all is well with her.
VardaValar1: My clock says it's that time of day. :-) Inviting now.
PallandoValar has entered the room.
Iryenth has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Gilraen and Pallando :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya both!
VardaValar1: Hi to the eagle, wherever he may be. :-)
Iryenth: Aiya
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25: aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Indis, aiya!

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: Europe's Daylight Savings Time is now in sync with eastern, so we have less confusion now.
VardaValar1: Any other membership new?
VardaValar1: We are still waiting for Melilot Brandybuck-(V) to be on at the same time as an inviter so we can bring her character into the LotRO kin, but she is a Full Member. :-)

VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: We have a bit of nifty dwarf info from Meriadoc-(V) on the News. Has anyone here not seen it yet?
VardaValar1: The original source may be read free online at Gutenberg Press.
VardaValar1: In Merry's words:
VardaValar1: Here we have, from ‘Myths of the Norsemen’ by H.A. Gruber, circa 1909:
VardaValar1: “To support the heavenly vault, the gods stationed the strong dwarfs, Nordri, Sudri, Austri, Westri, at its four corners, bidding them sustain it upon their shoulders, and from them the four points of the compass received their present names of North, South, East, and West.”
VardaValar1: And now you know – when heading one direction or another, you’re heading towards those strong Dwarves. Evidence suggest that they’re still standing strong, since the cardinal directions haven’t changed since then.
VardaValar1: And now you know – the First of the Story!
VardaValar1: /endquote
ArPharazonV: I was reminded of the Lost Tales story about the 3 who represented time.
VardaValar1: Ahh right. That's one we don't hear about much.
ArPharazonV: Don't remember much about that though.. but I don't think they were dwarves :-)
VardaValar1: I vaguely remember it, need to re-read. One at least was a Vala, the others were Maiar I think.

VardaValar1: On the Tolkien Site:
VardaValar1: New chapter on a long-running novel from Nightwing is now up:
VardaValar1: "To See a World" by Nightwing. Chapter 52 "What Tomorrow May Bring" is now up. The novel is still in progress and may be started here.

VardaValar1: We have new art pieces up from the Bohemian Weasel-(T).
VardaValar1: They are two sketches of Elrond from the time when he was trying to convince Isildur to drop the Ring into the fires of Mt. Doom:
VardaValar1: "Cast it into the fire!"
AriehnV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: "Isildur! Cast it into the fire!"
AriehnV: aiya all :-)
VardaValar1: Aiya Sunshine :-)
AriehnV: "flares fire up and forms into boat*
VardaValar1: If you want to see more of Elrond, here's the page:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/art/gallery/BohemianWeasel/characters/Elrond/Elrond.htm
AriehnV: nice one

VardaValar1: For the Games Site, Eonwe has been keeping up with it for us.

VardaValar1: Any others we can think of at the moment?
ArPharazonV: Hearthstone adventure release date announced
ArPharazonV: April 3rd.
ArPharazonV: Oh, you mentioned Hearthstone.
ArPharazonV: Nevermind!
VardaValar1: Date was different.
ArPharazonV: And it's the 3rd in Europe ;-)
VardaValar1: That explains it, thanks for the extra info, helpful.
VardaValar1: Pallando, anything from EVE Online?
AriehnV: he is probably busy
VardaValar1: Agreed
VardaValar1: Any other business, comments, suggestions, stuff we left out?

VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: Whoever is here please type Aiya
VardaValar1: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya
AriehnV: aiya
karakedi25: aiya
VardaValar1: I don't see anything new posted on the rp. Was anyone planning on posting this week or waiting for something particular (Eonwe or me to post, for instance).
karakedi25: Doesn't Elrond need to get Auros on track/
karakedi25: ?
ArPharazonV: Hmm, I don't know. Probably not me, considering we're together now and you tend to take care of more group-posts than I do.
VardaValar1: Wondering if we were going to have a post from Frali first or not.
VardaValar1: Ok, so we're only waiting on a group post, not for Frali before the group post.
ArPharazonV: Well, if we want to wait for Frali that sounds good to me.
AriehnV: ah yes
AriehnV: where do you want me to head him?#
VardaValar1: Mainly we need to know where he is so we can get together. We're about ready to head out, having picked up a lot of scouting info.
VardaValar1: Speaking of Elrond, with the pictures today and our story line, he makes a good chat topic.
VardaValar1: He's all through the stories, from way back clear through the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
VardaValar1: What kinds of roles does he fill in the story lines?
AriehnV: i was about to send him possibly to whoever has the scouting in Rivendell in charge .. he is getting bored
VardaValar1: Neat. We may bump into him then. :-)
AriehnV: so he was thinking of offering his services ^
AriehnV: who is in charge of that??
AriehnV: his function was to act as scout within the fortress of the enemy wasnt it? we were heading somewhere underground if i remember right :-)
AriehnV: and a sword extra .. and possible warden of the orcsword which is part of some ancient meany device :-)
VardaValar1: Meren would probably still carry the sword part (actually staff part), leaving Frali unencumbered to fight and look through the rocks and caves.
VardaValar1: Lot of mountainous areas, underground areas where Frali would be more comfortable and knowledgeable than the rest of us.
karakedi25: *Meren sighs*
VardaValar1: Elrond is at the top of scouting, as all eventually report to him.
VardaValar1: So we might all be heading to see Elrond soon.
AriehnV: i ll put a post :-)
ArPharazonV: "Hey, Elrond, guess what a little birdie told me..."
karakedi25: I would expect so. He'd probably have instructions and desires for us.
VardaValar1: Phar might be wiillling to give that info to Elrond when we meet him.
ArPharazonV: I would, but keep it even more general than what I've done in the first report.
VardaValar1: Elrond does actually need to know, to coordinate all the efforts going on. But that makes sense.

VardaValar1: In the stories in the books, that is a lot of what Elrond does: coordinate efforts. He may not have taken the High King title, but he still gets some of the work.
VardaValar1: Why did he refuse the title?
karakedi25: was it offered to him?
VardaValar1: (Breaking news: Melilot's character is now in the LotRO kin branch.)
karakedi25: congrats
ArPharazonV: Heir of many houses, I'd think. But I suppose he preferred to keep it casual and more common, and to allow him to run a sanctuary instead of a kingdom of sorts?
ArPharazonV: Grats to Melilot :-)
karakedi25: I would guess he got a good idea of the burdens of a high king as Gil-galad's herald and thought there were things he'd rather spend his time on
ArPharazonV: Also doesn't feel like intimidating others by title.
VardaValar1: Trying to find the actual quote. Best I can do at the moment is RotK App A, where it says
karakedi25: I may have missed something important, but as far as I know, there is no reference to his refusing the kingship.
VardaValar1: "...after the fall of Gil-galad, the lineage of the High-elven Kings was also in Middle-earth only represented by their descendants." Refers back to Elrond and Elros.
AriehnV: ((welome Melilot))
karakedi25: I wonder if, as a 'half-elf'' he would have been considered eligible
VardaValar1: Also in their descendants alone was represented the blood of the heroic Chieftains of the Edain in the First Age.
VardaValar1: Yes, because the brothers were required to choose a race. Elrond chose Elven and all that went with it. Elros chose human. So the two of them wound up dividing those two line choices after a fashion.
VardaValar1: Elrond would have been High-king after Gil-galad.
ArPharazonV: So he'd qualify for the title by being an heir of pretty much everything, really.
VardaValar1: I am not sure where the reference is to his not taking the title. He's still stuck with a lot of the duties.
VardaValar1: Pretty much, aye.
VardaValar1: This is what is so huge when Arwen and Aragorn get together. All of the stories and high lines come together in one spot.
ArPharazonV: But when the call for war and alliance is made he can sit in Rivendell and say "Don't look at me, I'm not your king!"
AriehnV has left the room.
AriehnV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: In a way, he declined responsibility for all but his own. Lord of a single refuge, not King of all the Eldar in Middle-earth.
VardaValar1: The choice between elf or man was given to Elrond and Elros and then to the children of Elrond, but not to others.
AriehnV has left the room.
AriehnV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Well, when you think about it, the descendants of those who would choose man got no other choice, while the descendants of those choosing elf got their own choice. Maybe it's easier to go from Elf to Man than from Man to Elf?
VardaValar1: Can't choose immortality once you're born mortal, aye.
ArPharazonV: Right.
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: (Breaking news: Frodo-V says: We are heading back to the UK for a week or so to see family. We'll most likely be off game for most of it.)
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: The choice was a reward given for Earendil's service to all the Children of Eru, including the Valar.
ArPharazonV: I keep getting the message in the chatroom that Arien is leaving the room. Anyone else?
VardaValar1: That's why it's not available for just any half-elf.
VardaValar1: I don't show her in the room at all.
ArPharazonV: No, she's not in the list. But I sometimes get the message, anyway.
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Ouch
ArPharazonV: How many other half-elves are there, and what fate did they get?
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: She was going to take a look at the Games page, see if Ancalagon was listed under SWOTR: Jedi Covenant.
VardaValar1: Arien says she posted in the rp, and will relog to try to fix the AIM problem.
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Just read the rp post. Sounds as if Frali is hoping to do a scouting mission on his lonesome, kind of like Fainan was considering, except he's about to ask Elrond to send him.
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: So far, Calion and Fainan have met up already.
ArPharazonV: Are we supposed to intercept Frali at Elrond's study?
VardaValar1: We might catch him between there and the Hall of Fire, maybe in the hallway about to see Elrond.
VardaValar1: We still need to collect Meren.
VardaValar1: Trying to re-invite Arien-V, not able to enter the chat room.
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Invitation didn't work.
ArPharazonV: Ack. I'll try it!
ArPharazonV: It says she's invited.
VardaValar1: Hope we didn't "cross the streams".
ArPharazonV: She's not responding to an IM either.
VardaValar1: Ok
VardaValar1: Do we have anything else we'd like to add about Elrond's role in Middle-earth at any time in any of the books?
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: If no one has anything else to add for the Elrond chat topic, shall we change over to After-meeting? Also this is a good time to bring up any other business items.
VardaValar1: We could use more articles. :-)
VardaValar1: or stories, poems, art.
ArPharazonV: In that case, continuing my WoW things for today, I'll report on my personal gaming in 20 minutes or so.
VardaValar1: *raises hammer high*
VardaValar1: *vroooommm!*
VardaValar1: *refills crater*
ArPharazonV: Jet-propelled?

VardaValar1: After-meeting:
VardaValar1: Free chat, even more on the Tolkien topics. :-)
AriehnV has left the room.
AriehnV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Right! Phara's gaming news.
ArPharazonV: Flashgaming: http://www.kongregate.com/games/MARTINIRosso/frozen-islands
AriehnV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Strategy and upgrade game where you play a kingdom of vikings and have to rescue/conquer other island from an ice giant.
ArPharazonV: *islands
ArPharazonV: Hearthstone: Still saving gold for the adventure. With this early release coming up, though, I won't have the gold to buy each wing as it comes out.
ArPharazonV: Not much I can do about that except wait or spend real money, so I guess the last couple of wings will have to wait :-)
ArPharazonV: Diablo 3: Made good use of the double xp week with the Witch Doctor who is now at 68 and a half levels. Only one and a half to go, with about a week of time left in the season, but I made plans with someone I raid with in WoW to finish it up tomorrow evening with his level 67 monk. Should be interesting, because I've not done multiplayer before in D3.
VardaValar1: Time to do it!
ArPharazonV: Well, except one time with Menelvagor I think, a few years ago, when he boosted me through Whimsyshire and got me killed a few times ;-)
ArPharazonV: I believe the xp buff persists until the end of tomorrow as well, so we should get there easily.
karakedi25: time to log out--namarie all
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
karakedi25 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: And for WoW:
ArPharazonV: Not done much questing this week, because I wanted to focus on D3 in the "free" time I'm not raiding or caring for my garrison, but I did get another pet from the Sunwell, and we killed the Iron Maidens in Blackrock Foundry for the first time, so that's going well too!
ArPharazonV: And I have the 2-piece set bonus on my druid for dps and tanking, which is pretty useful. I'm enjoying experimenting with the feral setbonus, which can make a large difference on larger groups of mobs.
ArPharazonV: And that would be it for me!
VardaValar1: Busy guy :-)
VardaValar1: and grats
ArPharazonV: Thanks :-)
VardaValar1: Nice. Eowyn-V is in LotRO. :-)
AriehnV has entered the room.
AriehnV: sooooo soo silly
ArPharazonV: Aiyata :-)
VardaValar1: You made it!
AriehnV: :-D
AriehnV: seems some chat settings got somehow messed up
VardaValar1: Happens.
AriehnV: :-)
AriehnV: computers are just grandioso ...
ArPharazonV: Oh, seems there's another Legends of Equestria open server event coming up on april 10 to 12, so 2 weeks from now.
ArPharazonV: More new features and content!
AriehnV: right .. i ll be heading upstairs and get some rest for tomorrow
VardaValar1: Sleep well
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
AriehnV: so have a good night :-) and have fun
VardaValar1: And if you know what settings need fixed for someone else with the same problem
VardaValar1: might mention when you can
AriehnV: Namarie :-)
AriehnV: somehow it had me doubly connected varda
AriehnV: one aim had me online and the other off line and that clashed
ArPharazonV: Weird.
VardaValar1: ugh
ArPharazonV: Should be solved by rebooting pc though, right? Or disabling all AIM processes or something.
VardaValar1: She did restart
AriehnV: yeah
AriehnV: it was okay
AriehnV: i have changeded some settings anyway now .. so should make things a bit less confusing
AriehnV: even for the pc :-)
ArPharazonV: Allright, good :-)
AriehnV: Namarie for now
VardaValar1: Namarie
AriehnV has left the room.

ArPharazonV: Hmm, looks like one of my favorite Let's Play series on youtube just put out its final episode earlier today... I'll have to finish this hearthstone quest quick and then watch it ;-)
VardaValar1: Enjoy
ArPharazonV: 88 weekly episodes, took quite a while!
VardaValar1: That's a lot
ArPharazonV: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNC_sRuPtMokF9P4DYSYuKY9GuVa6M0ev is the playlist if you're interested, but as of now, it seems he forgot to add last week's episode, so one is still missing.
ArPharazonV: The game is Fallout: New Vegas, by the way.
VardaValar1: ahh, links. He has my sympathy, but he needs to fix it. Email maybe?
ArPharazonV: With the fans he's got, there are comments everywhere already, undoubtedly.
VardaValar1: No doubt
ArPharazonV: Yep, that was a good ending :-) I'd never played the game, or anything in the Fallout series, but the humorous role-playing and commentary made it worth following. So if you're into this sort of thing, do give it a try!
Iryenth has left the room.
VardaValar1: Nice :-)
ArPharazonV: saving and sending transcript
