ArPharazonV: Not yet, but figured I might as well get in early anyway.
VardaValar1: Smart :-)
ArPharazonV: As a result, still raiding for an hour.
AriehnV: aiya :-)
VardaValar1: heh
VardaValar1: Right now in LotRO I see Fangorn, Gorlim, Leaflock, Gil-galad, Elwing, and myself. :-)
VardaValar1: Frodo just came on too. :-)
VardaValar1: Sending invitations

VardaValar1: Frodo is trying to see how to enter
ArPharazonV: Aiya folks!
ArPharazonV: Leave it to me to make a forum post at the last second.... put it up last night :-)
VardaValar1: haha - thanks!
ArPharazonV: I wonder if my sleepiness shone through it..
VardaValar1: Frodo says he'll be off work in about an hour and will try to enter.
VardaValar1: Phar, good thing you can edit at need
ArPharazonV: I did. Often. I made the post, then went through the transcript to see what other elements I was supposed to add...
ArPharazonV: and edited them in over several attempts.
VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: A star shines on the hour of our meeting.
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: We are seeing more activity in our LotRO branch lately as folks transfer over from other servers and are looking for a kin.
VardaValar1: Good time to help scout and recruit for those there. :-)
VardaValar1: Anything to bring up for Membership news?
VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: Games Site:
VardaValar1: Eonwe has been working on it, upgrading it for use and looks in fairly small ways, he says.
VardaValar1: (Fangorn says hi!)
VardaValar1: Eonwe says: updates to link lists generated from submenus to be columned.
VardaValar1: (cookies being passed from LotRO to AIM)
VardaValar1: (as in eating cookies, not web)
VardaValar1: Here's the Games Site:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/gaming
VardaValar1: Eonwe says:
VardaValar1: I made a slight update to the style of the Games Site so that the submenu pages (I.e., Games Listing for the Member Games Section, Guild Branch link pages, etc.) would be columnar instead of a long list. I also adjusted the link color for intra-Games Site links so hopefully it's a little easier to read against the gradiant. Take a look and let me know what you think.
VardaValar1: Ok, so feel free to give him feedback here or in an email. :-) He does read transcripts.
VardaValar1: Tolkien Site:
VardaValar1: New art by the Bohemian Weasel-(T)
VardaValar1: (please feel free to send in your own, even stick pictures if Tolkien-related. :-) )
VardaValar1: This one is Pippin speaking with Denethor:

VardaValar1: Here's hoping you all enjoy them. :-)

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: General news for WoW: (from Games Site, put up by Eonwe)
VardaValar1: LFR wing 3 for Blackrock Foundry opened this week.
VardaValar1: See the recent hotfixes.
VardaValar1: Any other general WoW news?
VardaValar1: Seen anyone from the guild there?
VardaValar1: Diablo 3:
VardaValar1: Updates have been made to the PTR patch notes.
VardaValar1: Hearthstone:
VardaValar1: Hearthstone is already a year old.
VardaValar1: See what's coming for Hearthstone in the blog Blackrock Mountain - Delving into Blackrock Depths.
VardaValar1: Heroes of the Storm:
VardaValar1: Check out the PAX East Panel Recap.
VardaValar1: LotRO:
VardaValar1: Lots of folks transferring to our Landroval server, so we have a great recruiting opportunity right now.
VardaValar1: Any other gaming news? Games you've played this last week?
VardaValar1: StarCraft/BroodWar gaming with Fangorn, Sauron, and Varda.
ArPharazonV: Besides some flashgames which I'll mention later, just 3 of the ones you already mentioned ;-)
VardaValar1: Nice. Did you see anyone else there from the guild?
ArPharazonV: Not that I recall.
VardaValar1: Their loss at missing you. :-)
ArPharazonV: I suppose I saw Arien online in friendslist, but she's usually Horde I think!
AriehnV: thats truew
AriehnV: on and off ally but mostly horde
ArPharazonV: Right, back to bossfight..
VardaValar1: go go!
VardaValar1: Gwaihir, did you have something?
GwaihirValar: I'm not sure how long it's been since I've been able to attend a meeting, but I did start streaming a while back, so I've been playing a JRPG called Atelier Shallie this past week on stream
VardaValar1: We have a Valar Stream group too
VardaValar1: How did you like the game?
ArPharazonV: stream or steam?
VardaValar1: Steam sorry
GwaihirValar: I've been enjoying the game quite a bit
VardaValar1: Did you put up a review yet, or like to make some comments?
GwaihirValar: I haven't finished it yet, so havent' reviewed yet
VardaValar1: Makes sense
VardaValar1: Any other comments, suggestions, more cookies and milk?
VardaValar1: Beer and pretzels for the dwarves maybe.
ArPharazonV: Other comments...
VardaValar1: Fire away

ArPharazonV: I'd like to take this moment to mention the passing of Sir Terry Pratchett earlier this week.
VardaValar1: O no
ArPharazonV: I know he's not the fantasy author we're all here for, but still one of the best, and I daresay I have more of his books than of Tolkien's.
VardaValar1: Thank you
VardaValar1: I have stacks of them too in the shelves.
ArPharazonV: Probably because he wrote more ;-)
ArPharazonV: Keep an eye out for his last Discworld book, though; it was finished last year and is supposed to come out later in this year. The Shepherd's Crown. Gotta complete the collection!
VardaValar1: Only 66 years old. Ouch
VardaValar1: Thanks, will be watching for it.
ArPharazonV: Yes. He was suffering from Alzheimer's I believe, yet it was a chest infection that got him in the end.
VardaValar1: For those few unfamiliar with Terry Pratchett, here's the wiki article:
VardaValar1: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Pratchett
ArPharazonV: Allright, just wanted to mention that.
VardaValar1: Thank you. I've been away too much and hadn't heard.
ArPharazonV: May his legacy live on, on our bookshelves.
ArPharazonV: Ah.
VardaValar1: Moving on to another author that passed to the West too soon:
top

VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: If you have a topic you'd like to bring up, please whisper me and we'll see about fitting it in.
VardaValar1: Check out the forum story aka rp, for Phar's latest entry!
ArPharazonV: Hope it tied into yours in a way that you wanted?
AriehnV: love the epitaph he gotr
AriehnV: its sad he had to go
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.proboards.com/thread/1162/angmar-bound-chapter-short-respite?page=7
VardaValar1: Ah the epitaph. Terry Pratchett wrote about Death as a character, with his speech in all caps.

VardaValar1: Phar, just read the post in the rp story. That ties in nicely, and Fainan will come over and see Calion shortly.
ArPharazonV: Great :-)

VardaValar1: For the Tolkien topic:
VardaValar1: We've had some folks wondering about our guild name. How would you answer them when they ask about what the Valar Guild name means, and who the Valar are in the books?
VardaValar1: I have to answer this fairly often as do other people scouting. What suggestion for an answer would you consider?
ArPharazonV: Hmm.. the benevolent gods and overseers?
ArPharazonV: those who watch over us?
ArPharazonV: sorry if my answers are short, still in WoW ;-)
VardaValar1: (rp post made)
VardaValar1: Humans thought of the Valar as gods sometimes but they didn't think of themselves that way. To them, Eru would be the creator, and themselves the sub-creators.
VardaValar1: The sub-creator term is from JRRT. What would it refer to?
ArPharazonV: Creating Arda in song under the guidance of Eru, as well as filling in the details afterwards.
VardaValar1: Aye, well said.
VardaValar1: So we of the guild do something similar as sub-creators: making games, Tolkien-related info and gaming info.
ArPharazonV: Games within games.
VardaValar1: There you go. :-)
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis :-)
VardaValar1: Frodo-(V) just made it into AIM. I'm about to invite him into the chat. :-)

VardaValar1: Indis, we started into the rp again. :-)
karakedi25: OK. I posted last week.
VardaValar1: Yay!
karakedi25: guess you didn't see it
ArPharazonV: I did! ;-)
VardaValar1: Sorry, I should have said something to the group.
VardaValar1: Aye, thank you for posting!

VardaValar1: Frodo-(V)'s phone or icq not supporting the chat function, trying something else.
ArPharazonV: Frodo's phone...
ArPharazonV: there has to be a "ring" pun in there.
VardaValar1: The chat question was how do we answer potential recruit or the curious what the Valar Guild name floating over our heads means. And explain what the Valar of the books are to those who never read the Silmarillion.
VardaValar1: hehehe Phar
VardaValar1: Frodo's Ring-tone.
ArPharazonV: There you go ;-)
karakedi25: The One Ring Tone
VardaValar1: hehee
VardaValar1: [Kinship] Dylas: For anyone in the AIM group...I'm having a few techinical issues with Aim...can't log in...can't create another account...can't access the chat room when I am logged in. (Frodo)
VardaValar1: How would you describe the Valar to someone who never read the Silmarillion?
karakedi25: The first thing I'd do is find out how much they already know, e.g., from LotR

ArPharazonV: A pantheon of demi-gods entrusted by the creator to fill in the world's details and govern it in his name?
VardaValar1: Good, get them thinking.
karakedi25: if they've heard of Eru, that's a start
VardaValar1: They don't think of themselves as higher than others but as brothers with the Second and First-born, also created by Eru.
VardaValar1: Like older brothers
karakedi25: I'd use what they already know to explain further
VardaValar1: Good
VardaValar1: Any further suggestions for the topics, or any new topics for Tolkien?

VardaValar1: Sam said that he and Frodo had plenty of chances to turn back. Was this true, or only for Sam, perhaps?
VardaValar1: He may also have been referring to the whole Fellowship.
karakedi25: In terms of the physical journey, that is true. In terms of commitments made, less so.
ArPharazonV: One step into Moria, and they ran back to Rivendell "nope nope nope, you can send someone else"
VardaValar1: :-)
VardaValar1: They kept having hope of finishing or they could not have gone on. Hope is one of the big themes. But the idea of being shamed by going back is also there, as Gimli mentioned that they would look faithless.
VardaValar1: What chance could Sam have seen that they could have gone back?
ArPharazonV: At Faramir's maybe? Or at least go to Gondor. But they knew it was a bad idea.
ArPharazonV: He could've left Frodo at Amon Hen too.
VardaValar1: Ok, folks, going to switch to After-meeting.
karakedi25: Any further decisions made about the RP?
VardaValar1: Phar and I posted after your post.
VardaValar1: You came in right after I posted.
VardaValar1: We're more or less saying where we are and what we're doing. Could use one from Frali?
VardaValar1: *swings hammer*
VardaValar1: *whompf!*
top

VardaValar1: After-meeting
VardaValar1: Free chat for rp, gaming, or whatever. :-)
ArPharazonV: just finishing this dungeon ;-)
VardaValar1: Great timing :-)
ArPharazonV: after that, personal news!
ArPharazonV: well, still need 2 more bosses. But just letting you know what to wait for.
VardaValar1: off to make supper, will scroll back.
karakedi25: Nice to have seen you all...namarie!
karakedi25 has left the room.
Iryenth has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Riiight, let's see.
ArPharazonV: Diablo 3: They're already talking about the end of season 2, so thought I'd put some extra time into my seasonal witch doctor.
ArPharazonV: Got him to 41 now, and enjoying it a lot. Especially now that I unlocked the Zombie Bear rune, a lot of fun!
ArPharazonV: Shouldn't be too difficult to get to 70 on time.
ArPharazonV: Hearthstone: First few classes to level 33 now! A lot of 60gold-reward-dailies this week as well, which means it takes more time to complete them, but also gives more gold, which is good because I'm saving up for the upcoming adventure. I have good hopes of being able to buy each wing as it's released.
ArPharazonV: WoW: killed Oregorger on heroic today for the first time! Fun boss, one phase rather like pac-man. Next goal should be the train-boss.
ArPharazonV: Also got the Goren-pet from my Garrison mine at last, which was my main reason for still using the mine every day :-)
ArPharazonV: And I went through part of the legendary questline as well, I'm now at the part where I have to collect stones from the Highmaul raid for about 2 months. It'll be slow, but it will also give me a lot of time for other stuff, I suppose.
ArPharazonV: And for flashgaming I'll give Awesome Tanks, a little top-view tank shooter game with upgrades and a variety of weapons. Simple but rather cute graphics.
ArPharazonV: http://www.kongregate.com/games/EmitterCritter/awesome-tanks
ArPharazonV: Enjoy!
ArPharazonV: That's it for me.
Iryenth has entered the room.
Iryenth has left the room.
VardaValar1: back
ArPharazonV: Aiyata :-)
VardaValar1: Wow, lots of folks still in here. :-)
VardaValar1: Le hannon :-)
ArPharazonV: Sure, but nothing's happened in the last 2 hours ;-)
VardaValar1: but I made a very popular supper for the guys. :-)
VardaValar1: Ok, pulling up LotRO! woot!
ArPharazonV: Have fun! I'm doing some Hearthstone.
VardaValar1: Neato
ArPharazonV: Already finshed a daily quest, but I also want to get a bit more xp on the paladin and priest, they've fallen behind about a quarter of a level.
VardaValar1: o noes
ArPharazonV: *finished
VardaValar1 has left the room.
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: ooops
VardaValar1: Sure hope you saved the meeting minutes. :-)
ArPharazonV: I did.
ArPharazonV: Did you disappear, or did I?
AriehnV: she did
VardaValar1: I did
VardaValar1: I hit the wrong spot while swapping between several windows.
ArPharazonV: Allright. Well, I temp-saved a while ago, so should be fine.
VardaValar1: Good to hear
VardaValar1: Got a regular old Battlenet-style between game plus in-game chat channel. :-) Ok, hushing now.
AriehnV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Eh, they're both close enough to 33 now. I think I'll go to bed soon.
VardaValar1: Soon, right
ArPharazonV: Gotta work on this transcript first!
ArPharazonV: Allright, saving and sending transcript!
