Before-meeting
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Phar :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
ArPharazonV: Still no post, alas. Busybusy. But I'm starting to draft a bit in my head.
VardaValar1: Nice. A Notepad post can help if you want to jot something down?
VardaValar1: Thoughts first, agreed!
ArPharazonV: Arien poked before I logged out, I hope she got it.
VardaValar1: Just poked Elladan in LotRO
VardaValar1: There she is. :-)
AriehnV has entered the room.
AriehnV: aiya all :-)
VardaValar1: Suilad, Sunshine :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
AriehnV: how are you people?
VardaValar1: Good. Beautiful weather blew in.
ArPharazonV: Finally had a bit of snow here, but it doesn't last :-)
VardaValar1: Hardly anyone on in-game or in AIM. Must be all outside.
VardaValar1: Means you don't have to shovel it?
ArPharazonV: true
AriehnV: have you got nice weather in the states? out skiing ?
VardaValar1: More like sunshine, pulling weeds, taking care of flowers, shirt-sleeve weather.
VardaValar1: The States is a large chunk of territory. Other places are shoveling snow.
VardaValar1: Shall we get started? :-)
VardaValar1: Question, are you both still in-game?
VardaValar1: I'm in LotRO, in case anyone else pops in.

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: A star shines on the hour of our meeting, as Frodo said to Gildor Inglorion.
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: New member this week: Beregond-(V)
ArPharazonV: No longer in-game, no, just browsing a bit, reading a forum.
VardaValar1: Maybe it will give you an idea for the Tolkien chat. :-)
VardaValar1: Beregond-(V) is from West Virginia in the USA, 34, and has one child.
VardaValar1: An outstanding character for him was Tom Bombadil, for mystery, strange powers, and saving the lives of the Hobbits twice.
ArPharazonV: Welcome!
AriehnV: Aiya Beregond! Welcome to the Valar Guild and I hope you have as much fun here as I do :-)
VardaValar1: He's been fun to chat with. I hope you get to meet in-game. :-)
VardaValar1: Any other Membership news?
VardaValar1: I may not be here the 15th or 22nd, not sure which or if both or if I'll get in just under the wire.
ArPharazonV: Should be my last dentist appointment tomorrow, in a series... so last time getting up really really early for a bit :P
VardaValar1: Traveling. Other family members will still be home but can't seem to drag them into the meetings. :-)
VardaValar1: Maybe we can finish up in a reasonablish time for you. :-)

VardaValar1: New art up by the Bohemian Weasel-(T):
VardaValar1: Frodo on the Old Road, the Ring has made him sensitive to the approach of Nazgul, and he is just starting to feel it and gives his first warning.

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: In LotRO, Elladan says he was afk because he was re-reading An Unexpected Journey. :-)  [Note: watching, not reading, my error.]
ArPharazonV: He does know they brought out a movie version, yes? ;-)
VardaValar1: lol - could be
VardaValar1: In the game, we had a recent update, 15.2
VardaValar1: It added new raiding material in the form of "Roving Threats".
VardaValar1: They rove a little, not all that much just yet.
VardaValar1: (Elladan is trying to enter the chat room, may need another version of AIM)
VardaValar1: Anyway, we've been running with friends to make up 12-mans and chasing down the Roving Threats around the world.
VardaValar1: It's tough finding them, so a link is now on our forum to help find them.
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.proboards.com/thread/1567/roving-threats?page=1&scrollTo=6726
VardaValar1: Lots of people are still coming onto our active server, since their servers are low on population.
VardaValar1: Any other LotRO comments?

VardaValar1: WoW:
VardaValar1: From Eonwe:
VardaValar1: Not sure what to do in WoW? See what's going on This Month in WoW.
ArPharazonV: Lot of holidays this month.

VardaValar1: Eonwe gave us a link to the hotfixes:
VardaValar1: including the new content:
VardaValar1: https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?563741-Update-15-2-Release-Notes
Scott92027 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Elladan :-)
Scott92027: iya
Scott92027: Aiya
Scott92027: dunno why my name is there like that haha [Note: shows differently to different AIM versions.]
VardaValar1: Just finishing up the LotRO news. Did you have anything you wanted to add about LotRO?
VardaValar1: Might check your settings?
Scott92027: yeah I just reinstalled so
ArPharazonV: Aiya
VardaValar1: I can go back and put Elladan in place of your name for the transcript.
Scott92027: no I've been quite busy here. Came in to see what's going on
VardaValar1: We just gave some gaming news, LotRO's latest patch notes:
VardaValar1: https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?563741-Update-15-2-Release-Notes
VardaValar1: and that some of us have been clearing out Roving Threats.
Scott92027: I'm not quite there yet
Scott92027: with 1,385 morale, I don't think I'd stand much of a chance
VardaValar1: You'll get there ventually. :-)
VardaValar1: I'm pulling out of LotRO for a bit to keep from hitting the wrong button.
Scott92027: okay

VardaValar1: Backing up to WoW,
VardaValar1: Elrond and Celebrian lost interest in WoW, burning out on gaming already. But Celebrian has come back to playing LotRO with her new Beorning.
VardaValar1: So that's the game to find them in now.

VardaValar1: StarCraft 2:
VardaValar1: Blizzard has made Warcraft 3 assets available on the PTR for those who want to test it out before it becomes widely available. Have fun, mapmakers!
VardaValar1: http://us.battle.net/arcade/en/blog/17796669/warcraft-iii-assets-now-available-on-the-ptr-2-2-2015
VardaValar1: Another Protoss-related blog has come: Death from Above: Protoss.
VardaValar1: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/17862499/death-from-above-protoss-2-5-2015
VardaValar1: Heroes of the Storm:
VardaValar1: New skins are coming.
Scott92027: ah yes I met Celebrion this morning
VardaValar1: http://us.battle.net/heroes/en/blog/17872197/new-skins-coming-soon-2-6-2015
VardaValar1: Very good. :-)

VardaValar1: Eonwe in WoW said:
VardaValar1: Personal gaming: Got the Sunhide Gronnling mount from the rare spawn Poundfist in Gorgrond.
VardaValar1: /endquote
ArPharazonV: Ooh, grats! That is a fun one.
ArPharazonV: But it can't fit through doors. Even gets stuck in the tunnel after the first Highmaul boss.
VardaValar1: Oooops
VardaValar1: Some people use barricades, some use stuck mounts.

VardaValar1: Bilbo has been trying out Guild Wars 2 with a friend, but not on our server of Jade Quarry, Not sure he'll stay with that game, just there for his friend.
VardaValar1: Both he and Sauron have been playing Dragon Age: Inquisition, and SWTOR a bit.
VardaValar1: Anyone here played anything unusual this past week?
VardaValar1: I've been in WoW a bit, but didn't stay long, sorry guys.
ArPharazonV: Mnope, I'm ambitious, but never find the time for other multiplayer games than i usually do ;-)
VardaValar1: *Coommme to LotROooooo* Nah, play where you're happiest. :-)
VardaValar1: Any other gaming news, business, suggestions, etc?

Scott92027: I'm all LotRO
VardaValar1: Yay :-)
AriehnV: i did some Lotro Last week guardian to 70
Scott92027: grats!
Scott92027: JUST hit 45 on my rk
VardaValar1: Grats to you both. :-)

AriehnV: so .. err , what else played Diablo and bit Heroes of the storm a couple of logs in SwotR thas about it :-)
VardaValar1: Please whisper me Tolkien topics if you have any suggestions.
VardaValar1: Did you see any others of the gang while there, Arien?
AriehnV: nope unfortunately not :-\
VardaValar1: Okie dokie.
ArPharazonV: Right, D3... logged in for a bit on the last day of season 1 to see if I had anything I really still wanted to do, and see if I had room in the stash and everything. Needs to all be sorted out.
VardaValar1: Heh, storage. The other beast to handle besides the lag monster.
ArPharazonV: I'll probably end up plunking a few million gold into new stash space ;-)
VardaValar1: Probably feel like it.
VardaValar1: I need to bring in my Demon Hunter again before she complains of mothballs.
VardaValar1: On to...

VardaValar1: Tolkien!
VardaValar1: That picture we were just showing a bit ago:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/art/gallery/BohemianWeasel/characters/Frodo/lotr-2012-big-frodo-green_ Off_the_road.jpg
VardaValar1: This shows a subtle magic.
VardaValar1: Frodo is sensitive to things happening on the other side because he wears the One Ring.
VardaValar1: In that picture, he can tell the Nazgul is approaching along the Old Road, hunting them.
VardaValar1: What other things does Frodo sense or do that shows he's not the ordinary, home-brewed Hobbit?
VardaValar1: He's been touched by something Other.
ArPharazonV: Well, usually because of the Ring, or because of the shard in his shoulder...
VardaValar1: One reason he might be so tough versus the Ring is he grew up around it. Bilbo had it before he did.
VardaValar1: True, the shard was another thing working on him, turning him towards being a wraith.
AriehnV: he is generally more suspicious and sensitive when others want to take it
VardaValar1: Gandalf wondered if Frodo would become like a clear glass.
ArPharazonV: He was half-fading into the shadow realm near Rivendell, and saw the auras of the Elves as well, despite not wearing the Ring.
VardaValar1: True, he became the possessive guardian of the very thing he was supposed to destroy. Caught between the two requirements.
VardaValar1: True. He saw Glorfindel as a bright white being, his appearance as an elf-lord on the other side, while the Nazgul were like black empty places, yet as human kings at Weathertop.
VardaValar1: It would have been interesting to hear his comments on what he saw of the Balrog. Although shadow and flame were on both sides.
ArPharazonV: Might see him rather more clearly, yes... or more brightly :-)
VardaValar1: He was quite a scary being for some folk to be around. Gandalf was tempted. Frodo gave Galadriel the ultimate test that let her eventually return to Valinor.
VardaValar1: Possibly. More detail.
VardaValar1: So different from what they could have been. Could have been more like some other spirits of fire like Arien.
VardaValar1: But they fell.
Scott92027: Nice seeing you. Time to make dinner :-) Namarie!
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
VardaValar1: Frodo didn't just carry the One Ring, Also carried the phial
VardaValar1: Namarie!
Scott92027 has left the room.
VardaValar1: And later he carried the white gem from Arwen, to hold onto when he felt the need of the destroyed Ring. Not sure if it had magic, but it had solace.
AriehnV: yet yet he managed to get the ring of his finger just in time on amon hen .. because he heard Gandalf s voice
VardaValar1: True, he believed Gandalf to be dead, but heard his warning to take off the Ring as Sauron was zooming in on his location. Just missed!
VardaValar1: I wonder what would have happened? Instant wraithdom? Would that have been something Sauron could have hit the Eagles with too had they come over in boldness?
ArPharazonV: That gem would be a placebo. But quite a valuable one, nonetheless.
VardaValar1: Something to hold, like a pencil in place of a cigarette?
ArPharazonV: Instant wraithdom? When the Eye found him at Amon Hen?
VardaValar1: Another thing. Grace was passed to Frodo, although not at the same time as in the movie.
ArPharazonV: *If
VardaValar1: What would have happened if the Eye had caught him at Amon Hen?
VardaValar1: He had to remove the Ring to prevent it. Was it just finding his location?
ArPharazonV: I suspect Sauron might've put Frodo in a swoon of sorts, while leaving him invisible and unable to be found.. and then maybe send a wraith after his location.
VardaValar1: That would be bad enough.
VardaValar1: So a wraith could have given him that ride to Mordor. :-)
VardaValar1: Another reason for the fell beasts.
ArPharazonV: Yes, but he wouldn't have liked it :-) And no Sam around to free him!
ArPharazonV: Right.
VardaValar1: Sounds very likely.
VardaValar1: The other members of the Fellowship would see a fell beast coming, so it had better be a quick scoop.
VardaValar1: Legolas shot one down in the dark.
ArPharazonV: Well, it would know where Frodo was. The Fellowship would not.
ArPharazonV: Also, when in doubt, send 2.
ArPharazonV: Or 9.
VardaValar1: Aye, they would only be aware of the fell beast.
VardaValar1: Aye, send a bunch. Five, nine.
VardaValar1: That should do it.
VardaValar1: Plus, a lot of orcs were in the area, big White Handers.
VardaValar1: They could distract or fence off the area with themselves.
VardaValar1: What about the Phial of Galadriel that Frodo carried? What strangeness did it have?
ArPharazonV: Sauron was no fool. If it was a choice between sending a wraith to a direct location, or let the Ring fall in the hands of Saruman...
ArPharazonV: Well, he would've gotten it eventually, no doubt, but didn't want to wait.
VardaValar1: And Saruman wanted it for himself. Sauron was surely aware of that.
ArPharazonV: Perhaps that's why the wraith that Legolas shot down, was there. Trying to find any moment of weakness where it could swoop in while the Orcs kept the Fellowship distracted.
VardaValar1: Swoop in, homing on the call of the Ring to them, grab the right hobbit instead of Merry and Pippin.
VardaValar1: Also, demoralize the party as they did at the battles.
ArPharazonV: Yep.
ArPharazonV: Anyway, the Phial... was never sure how that worked. It contained the light from a skyward Silmaril, I believe? :-)
VardaValar1: The phial of Galadriel held water from her mirror. What else was in that water?
VardaValar1: That's true.
VardaValar1: It held the light of Earendil, which was from the silmaril he carried.
ArPharazonV: Yep.
ArPharazonV: The silmaril seems to be a bit inconsistent though. If it's the brightest star all the way up, to the point where it can supply light to the Phial...
ArPharazonV: it must've been absolutely blinding back on the ground.
AriehnV: scaring away servants of the enemy
VardaValar1: She said it would shine brighter when night was around them. Probably more than just ordinary night time is meant.
ArPharazonV: Of course perhaps it shone the brighter up in the sky because it was darker :-)
VardaValar1: They did keep it under wraps. :-)
VardaValar1: Good night. We don't have an article on silmarils?
VardaValar1: We do have one for the Phial, though:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/articles/p/phialV.htm
VardaValar1: Could use a good article on the Palantiri too.
VardaValar1: Sorry, got side-tracked seeing what we had.
ArPharazonV: And what we don't.
VardaValar1: Frodo also had the mithril shirt of chainmail, and Sting.
VardaValar1: Too easy to think we have it all handled, when we don't.
VardaValar1: Plus he had a batch of high-powered potential rulers around him, and Sam, and Bill.
ArPharazonV: Sting... Noldorin blade, though I wonder if whoever made it back in Gondolin had any idea what it would be used for :-)
VardaValar1: He was known to the great ones who were watching out for him. Early on, Gildor Inglorion sent out messages about him.
VardaValar1: A fine dagger, maybe used in place of a shield at some time in the wars of Beleriand.
VardaValar1: The mithril shirt apparently went through more than one owner, as Thranduil mentioned to Bilbo in a back-handed compliment that it was better with him than with those who had appeared more comely in it.
VardaValar1: Not sure of the exact quote, sorry, but "those" meant more than one and caught my attention.
VardaValar1: The dagger glowed blue when Orcs were about.
ArPharazonV: Then how did it end up back in Erebor in the first place?
VardaValar1: One hopes it could be turned off.
ArPharazonV: Hah, yes. The sword that only betrays your presence when enemies are near!
ArPharazonV: Scabbard should be enough.
VardaValar1: The shirt was in the dragon stash, passed on to Bilbo, then it went to the mathom house, then was given to Frodo.
VardaValar1: hehe - aye.
VardaValar1: The light itself would be a pain for their enemies even without touching.
VardaValar1: The shirt though. Why in Erebor? Might have been sent there for repair or polishing after the young elven owner outgrew it, awaiting another to wear it.
ArPharazonV: Could be.
VardaValar1: Perhaps it was supposed to be returned to Thranduil, but never made it back thanks to some dragon lying around on it. Talk about a press.
VardaValar1: Thranduil might have been a previous wearer.
VardaValar1: It could have come over from Doriath with Oropher and Thranduil.
VardaValar1: Doriath was a wreck.
ArPharazonV: True. "Those" can also be used for a single unidentified owner, and if Thranduil wanted to only hint that it might have been him, he could've said so.
ArPharazonV: Ah, that's right. It might've been made in the First Age. Nobody said it actually came from Erebor.
ArPharazonV: Or Moria.
VardaValar1: It could have come from as far back as when Elu Thingol worked with the dwarves. They made a lot of armor for the elves.
ArPharazonV: It was mithril though. Doesn't that kinda limit it to Moria?
VardaValar1: Or it might've been made in Erebor, since that was the big source of mithril.
ArPharazonV: Was it?
VardaValar1: Moria was the big source.
ArPharazonV: Right :-)
VardaValar1: Sooo, Celebrimbor and crew were set up near the gate to Moria.
ArPharazonV: Then again, the mithril ore might have been exported.
VardaValar1: It surely was. It was sold for plenty of money.
ArPharazonV: Or the bars. Or anything, before it was meshed into a shirt.
VardaValar1: Agreed.
VardaValar1: Tom Bombadil was another source of aid for a short distance, and had not intended to be, apparently.
ArPharazonV: Not that it bothered him.
VardaValar1: Another of those incidents like the Ring being placed in front of Bilbo instead of an orc. :-)
VardaValar1: He was perfect as help that wouldn't try to take the Ring.
ArPharazonV: Though perhaps he was surprised to see the Hobbits again after warning them about the Barrow Downs :-)
VardaValar1: He also didn't let Frodo get away with invisibility shenanigans. "Your finger is more fair without it."
VardaValar1: He knew the danger and was ready if they were overwhelmed, as they were by the mound where they fell asleep.
karakedi25 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: And he handed them off to Aragorn, who he knew was lurking and listening.
karakedi25: Aiya
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
ArPharazonV: Aragorn... one of those potential rulers. I wonder why the Fellowship ended up mostly consisting of heirs to some family or land, even including the Hobbits.
VardaValar1: All could give the maximum aid to Frodo?
ArPharazonV: Better trained? More socially learned, so sent out for big international meetings etc? :-)
karakedi25: Because deep down inside, JRRT was a snob.
karakedi25: He believed in the aristocracy, as is shown in his fiction.
VardaValar1: They all had connections, equipment, training that regular people didn't have. And Sam is often considered the big hero.
ArPharazonV: The heir to Arnor and Gondor. The heir to the stewardship of Gondor. The heir to the Elves' kingdom in northern Mirkwood. The heir to the title of Thain, the heir to Buckland...
VardaValar1: Aye, lots of blue blood being risked.
karakedi25: That wasn't meant as a slap at JRRT, just an observation.
VardaValar1: Shows how important the mission was to the world. All the kingdoms of all the races were represented.
ArPharazonV: Just taking out the Fellowship out in the wild somewhere would be enough to upset genealogists everywhere.
VardaValar1: For sure.
VardaValar1: Shall we switch over to After-meeting? Phar needs to leave soon.
VardaValar1: If anyone still has some comments, please feel free.
ArPharazonV: I can postpone a bit, don't mind, I'll catch up more sleep after I return tomorrow ;-)
VardaValar1: Ok. I did a post in the RP this week. Phar is considering one as well.
VardaValar1: Wish we could find out what happened with Menelvagor. He could rejoin or write out his character.
ArPharazonV: Probably hiding somewhere in the undergrowth outside of Rivendell. He'll show up later!
VardaValar1: Likely location. Not going inside that magic field!
VardaValar1: *picks up a mithril hammer, all shiny*
VardaValar1: *tinnnnnnng*
top

VardaValar1: After-meeting!
VardaValar1: Free chat.
ArPharazonV: Well, let's see then, personal news!
ArPharazonV: I told you about poking into D3, right...
VardaValar1: A mention.
ArPharazonV: Anyway, Hearthstone: All classes to 32 now! All of them got a new golden card. Though only a few are actually part of my decks right now, but that's fine, they do start out rather specialized :-) Next goal for golden cards will be 34.
ArPharazonV: But might as well stop at 33 along the way!
ArPharazonV: WoW... hmm.
ArPharazonV: Went for the Love is in the Air event, got all the new achievements for it. There's one that requires you to have 50 stacks of a buff on you, so that requires a large group of people with precise timing.
ArPharazonV: And careful use of the charges used on the items required to give that buff.
ArPharazonV: But for me, at least, it was easy to find groups in the groupfinder, and at one group where we would all get the achievement from everyone else at the same time, I got it done :-) Of course it still took a lot of time; each person ended up being in the group for 3 hours, giving the buff to others, before it was their turn to receive.
ArPharazonV: So if you want it done (and get the toy reward for it) prepare to spend a long time helping other people get the same thing.
ArPharazonV: What else... quested in Nagrand for a bit more, completing 2 quest arcs, starting at the Throne of Elements. Found a rare ooze along the way which gave me a pet: Netherspawn, spawn of Netherspawn.
ArPharazonV: And for raids, the second raid of the expansion opened today, the Blackrock Foundry. We've killed 4 new bosses over thursday and sunday (today), on normal difficulty. So it's good progress.
ArPharazonV: They're fun fights, too. One of them has us fighting on a set of traintracks, constantly having to dodge incoming trains :-)
ArPharazonV: And another has a phase where you have to lead the boss through a pacman-like maze, without it catching you.
ArPharazonV: Got a Goren invasion done, only Botani to go...
ArPharazonV: oh, and I tamed all the animals for the stables quests; now I just need to go through all their daily quests to get them all as mounts in the end. Fun to collect!

ArPharazonV: For flashgaming.. I don't think I have as much new.
ArPharazonV: I'll settle for giving you a puzzle game where you have to stack up tetris parts as high as possible.
ArPharazonV: http://www.kongregate.com/games/WeirdBeardGames/99-bricks requires a bit of luck and a bit of practice if you want to get higher towers :-)
ArPharazonV: And I think that's it for me this week!
VardaValar1: Thanks. Tetris style stuff tends to be addictive.
ArPharazonV: Yep. And a bit frustrating :-)
VardaValar1: Aye to that too.

WoW
AriehnV: I got my pali in Pharis guild to 100 :-) finally
ArPharazonV: Grats!
VardaValar1: Very good! For both of you. :-)
AriehnV: and the other thing i did during my hols is going to the two guild raids which where absolutly fantasic
AriehnV: good fun .. we got twin bosses down and the sporethingame the week before .. so its 6/7 in the progress as a whole

LotRO:
karakedi25: My Beorning reached level 83 and is now half-way throught E. Rohan reputation. I hadn't been playing for a while and went back tonight.
ArPharazonV: The 7th is a lot tougher :-)
karakedi25: sorry, wasn't sure if you were done
VardaValar1: Grats on the Beorning. Do you go for dps or tanking?
karakedi25: currently dps, as she's still leveling up and so almost always solo
karakedi25: Beorning dps is pretty darn good, no matter what the pre-release worries were about 15.2.
karakedi25: She would have to be really ganked to lose a fight.
karakedi25: Or stupid.
VardaValar1: Good to hear. My Beorning should go out and play more. You are amazing how well you work up so many characters.
AriehnV: go ahead indis
karakedi25: that's all I had to say

ArPharazonV: Alts.. a curse and a blessing.
karakedi25: too many alts, and many not at level cap
VardaValar1: hehe - true. And normal for all of us, thanks to loving our game.
VardaValar1: Must try every type, do all the crafts, have enough mules, have some to play with particular people, oops, lots of alts.
karakedi25: *nod*
ArPharazonV: That's how it goes.
ArPharazonV: And suddenly you have 11 characters of 11 classes and only log most of them during holiday events.
VardaValar1: heh
VardaValar1: So that's why we have holiday events.
ArPharazonV: Yep. Brush off the old mage, etc...
karakedi25: time to log out. Namarie
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
VardaValar1: Rest well :-)
karakedi25 has left the room.
AriehnV: Namarie to you all :-) time for bed for me as well
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
