Before-meeting
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Aiya Golden One :-)
VardaValar1: Is something special going on today?
ArPharazonV: Not that I know?
VardaValar1: Me either.
ArPharazonV: Was just busy killing spineclaws, so lost track of time.
VardaValar1: Glad you had AIM up in the background. : )
VardaValar1: Ioreth seems to be busy working with music groups in LotRO, getting ready for Weatherstock.
VardaValar1: Don't see anyone else but you and me. Enough for a meeting!
ArPharazonV: Just poked Arien.
VardaValar1: Thank you. : )
ArPharazonV: And she's replied, so I'm free to log out of WoW!
VardaValar1: Fladrif comes on very late. He put in a bit in After-meeting
AriehnV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: It's rather early for him, if I recall :-)
AriehnV: Aiya all :-)
VardaValar1: Aye, time zone problem is pretty awful
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Aiya Sunshine :-)
AriehnV: who are you talking about?
VardaValar1: Fladrif
VardaValar1: You might enjoy what he said during the end of last After-meeting. : )
VardaValar1: ok, it's that time of day. : )

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: Thank you both for being so great about coming to the Sunday meetings as regulars. : )
VardaValar1: I would continue coming alone to make an officer available for anyone, Tolkien Member or gamer, anyone wanting to request something or do entries.
VardaValar1: But it's so much more fun to have friends here with similar interests!
VardaValar1: Any membership news from either of you?
ArPharazonV: Always fun to be here!
VardaValar1: And still enjoying being back. We've had actual rain and lots of it! None while in Arizona, so we can hope some drifts back there.
top

VardaValar1: Web:
ArPharazonV: *gasp* you mean you have dry periods over there? ;-)
ArPharazonV: Tell us what that's like!
VardaValar1: Easy to walk in and get your Vitamin D. : )
VardaValar1: In web news, happy to say the Valar site is now all updated on my home computer so that any new stuff going up shouldn't wipe out new stuff up in the first part of the year.
VardaValar1: Now we can hope for more forward movement.

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Any non-WoW, non-LotRO gaming this past week?
ArPharazonV: Yep.
AriehnV: no
ArPharazonV: Hearthstone's second season ended, giving those who got to rank 20 or better a Black Temple card-back, and season 3 has started, which will grant the Rainbow card back at the end of the month.
ArPharazonV: Black Temple is nicely animated too, it seems, from what I can see when my opponent uses them, since it's difficult for me to see the back of my own cards... which, I feel, somehow defeats the purpose of having it, unless for showing off ;-)
ArPharazonV: And lvl 18 on all my HS classes now, so progress is being made! Slowly.
VardaValar1: Grats :-)
AriehnV: grats :-)
ArPharazonV: And I finished saving up my 3k for the upcoming Naxxramas content, so now I've allowed myself to buy new packs again for cards to add to my collection :-) Including a new rare for my druid!
VardaValar1: Yay rares!

ArPharazonV: Also, finished Pixelo, though I'm still doing the daily puzzle, and probably will until I've maxed out experience. But I've also been doing other flashgames during and after that! Including one which I'll link.
ArPharazonV: http://www.kongregate.com/games/ArmorGames/indestructotank-ae a game where you play an indestructible tank, and you have to get blown up into the air and smash into airplanes to get experience, before your fuel runs out and you explode anyway. I guess it's only indestructible from the outside :-)
ArPharazonV: It's not too long, but it can take a few tries to finish it. So enjoy!
VardaValar1: Thanks, especially from our tank gamer. : ) I'm sure there are other tank nuts, but at least one will be interested.
ArPharazonV: I hope so!
ArPharazonV: Hmm, and I think that's it for now.
VardaValar1: Thanks Phar

VardaValar1: Bilbo has been playing a lot of EverQuest 2 and wants me to download the free game and join him. I may give it a shot for a bit, haven't downloaded yet though.

VardaValar1: We had a full table of people at our Satuday Pathfinders board game, one of which might be interested in joining the Valar to play with us there, especially since he has to move in four months and would like to keep in contact with friends here.
VardaValar1: The game includes myself, Gimli, and Sauron as Game Master already, so it's like a Valar gaming table sometimes. : )
ArPharazonV: Sauron as Game Master still sounds scary.
ArPharazonV: And I know what i'm talking about there!
VardaValar1: No argument. He's killed me three times (ok, game did it, but no favoritism for sure!) :-)
VardaValar1: Sauron talked in Phar's ear enough, aye. : )
VardaValar1: Star Wars: The Old Republic is one possibly interest he has, and Gimli and Sauron like to play it too, with some interest by Bilbo and myself, so that's enough for some playing.
VardaValar1: Classes in the universities are starting tomorrow so schedules are being redrawn between those and work, so hurray for email. : )
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25: Aiya
VardaValar1: Now if we could just get folks to use the forum!
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis : )
VardaValar1: We're in gaming about to hit WoW, then LotRO, then hoping we can chat a bit about the forum rp.
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
karakedi25: I check the forum at least once daily
VardaValar1: That's one person! We were actually talking about the SWTOR and other gamers. Thank you for checking. Feel free to comment when checking, maybe on some of our old Tolkien threads that could use revived. True for all, or start new ones if you like.

VardaValar1: WoW:
(info from Eonwe's Games Site)
VardaValar1: A new blog is telling what's coming for Garrisons:
VardaValar1: Draenor bases is what that's about
VardaValar1: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/14001702/garrison-preview-part-1-your-base-on-draenor-5-28-2014
ArPharazonV: Must collect all Followers.
ArPharazonV: All of them.
VardaValar1: The updated models for the female gnome and male tauren are now up:
VardaValar1: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/14288871/character-viewer-updated-female-gnome-male-tauren-5-30-2014
VardaValar1: That's news from the Games Site by Eonwe. : )
VardaValar1: He also sent an email:

VardaValar1: Kael'thas in Tempest Keep was feeling particularly generous this week, and so I've ended up with the Ashes of A'lar. Another mount down :}
VardaValar1: /end mail

VardaValar1: Grats on the new mount, Eonwe. : )
VardaValar1: Any other WoW news?
ArPharazonV: Grats Eonwe! No Ashes for me yet, though we try every week :-)
ArPharazonV: Not really from me. Still exterminating spineclaws in hopes of spawning the rare ones. Though it appears to be working, since the rare ones have been popping up on my patrol path.
ArPharazonV: So it's just a matter of time before I get the pet-drop, I hope!
VardaValar1: Sounds like you're making your own good luck. May it work out for you.

VardaValar1: LotRO:
VardaValar1: Bands are practicing before the Weatherstock event on the Landroval server.
ArPharazonV: I hope so!
ArPharazonV: the working out that is :-)
VardaValar1: It may be easier to enjoy the bands before the giant, laggy Weatherstock band event on Weathertop, so watch for the call-outs that a group is playing all during the time before. Some very fine work going on.
ArPharazonV: Weatherstock, eh. Nice name.
VardaValar1: A Landroval annual player event where the bands get to compete with their music.
ArPharazonV: Is it actually competing, or is it everyone playing at once?
VardaValar1: They take turns. It has an emcee.
VardaValar1: It takes quite a long time to go through them all, but you can come especially to see particular favorites that way too.
VardaValar1: And that helps if you have a time zone problem as there is continual good music for a long time.\
karakedi25: it's a real competition. They also compete to get on the roster for the event itself. Bands come from multiple servers for it, as do the audience
karakedi25: They make alts on Landroval
VardaValar1: One of the biggest events in LotRO for that reason, maybe the biggest. And it's on our server.
VardaValar1: because the players originally voted to make it the unofficial rp server, so we get the most in the way of volunteer events in sheer number.
ArPharazonV: Great! Sounds like all should be there and crash the server :-)
VardaValar1: One hopes the Devs are aware that there will be extra load at that time. : )
karakedi25: it's a major lag-fest, but people have a lot of fun at it
VardaValar1: Use the best computer you have if you go. : )
karakedi25: lotro has cosmetic pets for non-lore-masters now
karakedi25: they're strictly fluff. One can, if the RNG is kind, get a baby huorn, or a shrew of different coats and size
ArPharazonV: Collectors of the world, rejoice?
karakedi25: from what I understand, the huorn is really hard to get (a series of dailies that end in a gift box, which if the RNG is kind--which it rarely is--may yield a huorn pet.
ArPharazonV: Sounds like it'll keep people busy for a while.
VardaValar1: And the shrews would be from the Spring Festival that ends on the 3rd?
VardaValar1: ok, thanks, Indis. : )
karakedi25: that's correct, spring festival
VardaValar1: Any other comments, suggestions, news, etc?
VardaValar1: I need to get cracking on the festival! *adds a few more hours to the day with Arien's help*

VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: The forum rp is under discussion, since all of us here are in it. : )
VardaValar1: What info does our group need to know to go to Angmar?
VardaValar1: It would be in two sections: traveling there, what we do after we get there.
VardaValar1: So, what do we need to learn for the journey?
ArPharazonV: For the travelling, we gotta wait for the birds to return :-)
VardaValar1: Agreed. So Calion will let us know and we writers need to know what we want the birds to report.
VardaValar1: Food and water available on the way such as caches, camps, towns.
karakedi25: sources and victims of corruption
VardaValar1: Besides birds, we've been studying and talking
VardaValar1: Aye to that
VardaValar1: Passable ways to travel to Angmar.
VardaValar1: Obstacles by terrain, lack of life, plants and animlas, suspicion, enemies normally present.
ArPharazonV: *tweet tweet* They've got a cave troll!
VardaValar1: We should have maps, even if crude ones we scribbled down during reading and looking at fancy wall and book maps.
VardaValar1: Aye, that sort of thing Phar, but where is it and does it have friends? : ) What weapons, defenses, armor?
AriehnV: hmmm Frali could study what kind of enemies they might encounter .. a warrior likes to be prepared as to what and how and where he has to hit to hurt the enemy most
VardaValar1: Sounds good. And he might have a better idea of types in the mountains than our forest-living group.
VardaValar1: Once present, how do we neutralize the threat to Mirkwood?
VardaValar1: And just by serendipity, help everyone else.
VardaValar1: What is threatening Mirkwood?
VardaValar1: Intensified opacity to the mist with bad effects to the animal life, and possibly to the
VardaValar1: humanoid life of elves, then on to the borders to wild men/Beornings, area of Erebor, maybe
ArPharazonV: Which we've attributed to the staff.
VardaValar1: not past mountain ranges but possibly seeping through passes.
VardaValar1: Aye, and the staff seems to originate from
VardaValar1: Angmar.
VardaValar1: The enemy in Angmar was testing two halves of a staff that were to be put together to form a
VardaValar1: devastating weapon. It was tested against the Gates of Mirkwood.
AriehnV: broke during test?
VardaValar1: So we of Mirkwood feel personally threatened and have some feeling of immediacy about this mess.
AriehnV: one half ended up with our *unfortunate* orc that Frali killed?
VardaValar1: Aye : )
ArPharazonV: Hmm, we did find that out, yes? A picture of it in a book or something? Or did we never put that in?
VardaValar1: One confusion we'd be having is whether the mirk affecting the wolves, like Helvy, also affected elves, like Calaron, or if it was a separate effect from the sorceror or the strange object of which we have one half.
VardaValar1: We are supposed to be studying, and we need to get together to say what we've learned so we can present it to Elrond and ask if it's time to go yet, or he or his people can add more.
AriehnV: we have Elronds general guess that the thing is far more powerful than what it looks like
ArPharazonV: Well, the sorcerer claimed to be behind the affected elf, not sure we have a reason to doubt his word :0
VardaValar1: The scouts are back and presumably reported to Elrond.
ArPharazonV: *:-)
VardaValar1: Not entirely sure I trust the sorceror's word. : )
ArPharazonV: Where is the sword now? Trying to recall.
VardaValar1: Anyway, in the morning, Fainan wants to call the gang together and see if we have enough to take to Elrond.
ArPharazonV: And what have we found out about it yet?
VardaValar1: Auros has the sword
VardaValar1: He's supposed to study it.
VardaValar1: And he is going to get the surprise later that he's coming with us. ^^
ArPharazonV: Not sure I trust that Auros. Seems a bit of a shady character.
karakedi25: is this the point where Elrond springs the surprise on him?
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: I think it is. : ) Good spot for it.
VardaValar1: I expect Elrond will call him in to tell us what Auros has learned, then suggest he start packing his bags sooner rather than later.
karakedi25: *wonders if Auros will make a sour face*
VardaValar1: Just when he thought he was going to have a long R&R, he's stuck with a bunch of Mirkwoodites that gave him a hard time and misunderstand his way of speaking as stuck up. Cultural differences.
VardaValar1: We'll see what poker face he and we have!
VardaValar1: Fainan actually likes him and would not mind his coming along. What about the rest of the gang?
ArPharazonV: "Fine, he can come along.. but he'd better carry our bags!"
karakedi25: Meren respects his ability and knowledge, but does think he's stuck up
VardaValar1: For all we know we're interrupting some intended courtship or a long-running game.
karakedi25: not our fault
VardaValar1: We do have cultural differences so it should be fun to sort them out.
ArPharazonV: Calion'd rather he didn't, but if it comes down to it, another fighter could always be useful. The fact that Auros wouldn't be in charge probably makes it more tolerable too.
VardaValar1: Not our fault, but he might make a sour face at the unexpected interruption and we might interpret it as displeasure at the coming company.
karakedi25: that's what Calion thinks...
AriehnV: *is in the way anyway and he laughs probably about my so calleed weaponskills* ..*mumbles unnoticed*
ArPharazonV: Of course it'd be displeasure at the company! No doubt in Calion's mind.
VardaValar1: We don't know that Auros isn't in charge. Elrond might want him to be as the most experienced.
karakedi25: *nods*
VardaValar1: Now now, Frali. Maybe you could show your skills off at the practice range.
VardaValar1: Auros may be somewhat familiar with the terrain, and we've never been there.
ArPharazonV: Good, let him scout for a change!
VardaValar1: He's also older than the rest of us and Elrond knows him well and that he's a proven, capable leader.
karakedi25: I see he's not all that popular :-P
VardaValar1: So we'd need a really good reason to put one of us in charge instead!
VardaValar1: Fainan seems to be the only one that actually likes him. And his horse likes him.
karakedi25: Meren is not seeking to be in charge. She does want someone who is competent, which includes respecting those who are with him
ArPharazonV: As far as we know, his horse likes him.
VardaValar1: Actually Auros does respect the group, but they might not be getting the kinds of kudos they are used to and expect.
VardaValar1: Part of the culture thing.
VardaValar1: It's like the Japanese become quieter when they hurt, when we might start being more noisy to let people know we're hurt and need aid.
karakedi25: Meren does not expect pats on the head. She does expect to be consulted and informed.
VardaValar1: About what? Auros was just trying to get his report back to Rivendell and it was secret from all but Elrond.
VardaValar1: Our job was just to escort him.
VardaValar1: That's how Fainan sees it. : )
VardaValar1: Part of the fun is the different pov's of the characters. : )
ArPharazonV: Well he'd better be forthcoming with information about the sword :-)
AriehnV: ~Well we know it corrupts
VardaValar1: That's actually up to Elrond to give out such info, as far as Auros can tell. He's something of a soldier/scout, not able to give out secrets.
VardaValar1: Aye, we know some things on our own that we can pool and present to Elrond.
karakedi25: With respect to the sword, which was a danger to all of the crew, he needed to share information and get knowledge where he could
VardaValar1: That knowledge could be seen as needing more added to it so we don't do something dangerous from ignorance according to Elrond.
VardaValar1: What more could he ask of us that we hadn't told? And wouldn't he assume we told him what we knew so he could tell Elrond?
VardaValar1: He did put the sword where he thought it safest and that was with Meren.
VardaValar1: Not with Fainan, you might notice. : )
karakedi25: And then took it away in a rather abrupt way.
karakedi25: Meren knows that he reports to Elrond. In shared danger, though, an autocratic approach can be very harmful.
VardaValar1: That's part of the culture thing. He thought you understood.
karakedi25: because Mirkwoodites read minds?
VardaValar1: Hey, he's also soldierly, not exactly a diplomat, carrying out orders. Elrond says do this, surely Thranduil's people understand that sort of thing.
karakedi25: Even Osanta-Kenwe requires an initiative
VardaValar1: Thranduil is even more autocratic, apparently.
karakedi25: As I said, shared danger in circumstances not familiar to him...
VardaValar1: Ok, so what would Meren require for Auros to get back in her good graces? And I don't think he'll fall on his sword. : )
karakedi25: to treat her like a colleague, not a handmaiden
ArPharazonV: He could fall on *the* sword?
VardaValar1: heh
VardaValar1: Does she act like a colleague, from his point of view?
karakedi25: how would a colleague act from his point of view?
VardaValar1: Does she just seem to be part of the escorting party taking info to Elrond?
karakedi25: she provides information as needed, cooperates in join activities, including defense
VardaValar1: Remember, we're doing story-telling here, not personal.
karakedi25: *joint
VardaValar1: Aye, so does Fainan, who might not be considered a scholarly colleague.
karakedi25: yes, but I'm speaking from Meren's point of view
VardaValar1: okie dokie. : )
karakedi25: Meren is not of the Mirkwood aristocracy, but she has her pride, rightly or wrongly
VardaValar1: Aye, and Fainan looks up to her as one of her teachers.
VardaValar1: All right, what does our group want to present to Elrond to see if we're full up on what we need to know?
VardaValar1: Bird scouting for one, for sure. So we'll wait for Calion's birds to return.
VardaValar1: That helps with our timing.
VardaValar1: Calion is aristocracy. Might he feel he should be in charge over the Mirkwood group?
VardaValar1: Would he be secretly glad for someone else to do it?
ArPharazonV: I know I would. Not sure about Calion.
ArPharazonV: If he's anything like me he's probably happiest if someone gives the orders, as long as those orders coincide with what Calion wants to do anyway.
ArPharazonV: *someone else
VardaValar1: hehe - tell me to do what I want to do.
VardaValar1: Tricky when people don't know what they want.
ArPharazonV: Well if he doesn't know what he wants then he won't mind following orders. Maybe the correct thing would be.. not that the orders coincide with what he wants to do...
ArPharazonV: but that they *don't* coincide with what he *doesn't* want to do.
ArPharazonV: Anyway, looking at my recent postings I think I summed up neatly what Calion found out and concluded in his studies, which would be the idea that the ring he saw was a lesser Ring of Power. That could be something we might present to Elrond.
VardaValar1: A lot considering the timing.
VardaValar1: Frali may have picked up some info from Gloin and Gimli?
VardaValar1: Fainan's been collecting what she could for a potential map of a way to Angmar. That map might be what leads Elrond to realize we need someone who knows the area first-hand at least a little.
VardaValar1: We're going to leave regardless after a while and he doesn't want us stirring up a hornet's nest in front of the Fellowship. But we might make a good decoy. : )
ArPharazonV: As long as we mention loudly on our way to Angmar that our actions are involved with some kind of Ring of Power, it might actually work as a decoy!
AriehnV: what could he learn from those too?
AriehnV: oh you mean that the sword they found was part of another larger weapon?
VardaValar1: Actually asking what you might learn from the old, rich traveler Gloin. Maybe he's heard a rumor or two even.
AriehnV: what rumor could that be?
VardaValar1: Alright, if you don't think they could possibly have heard anything, that's good to know too. : )
VardaValar1: Do we have anything else we might add when we go see Elrond?
AriehnV: well the only thing i could imagine is he might have heard that there are more darker treasures out there and other parties not all honest might be looking for them
AriehnV: and rumors of orcs moving and even trolls maybe but .. just rumours
VardaValar1: At this time, the trolls would probably stay in shaded areas and come out at night.
VardaValar1: Could be a problem if we try to shelter in such a place from rain or dust storms or whatever the weather is like there.
ArPharazonV: They mostly come at night... mostly...
ArPharazonV: Yes, avoid troll caves for camping :-)
VardaValar1: Who of us would know what the weather would be like? Should we pack heavy cloaks for the mountains or pack more lightly?
AriehnV: unless talked into arguing about how to cook 13 dwarves and one hobbit of course
VardaValar1: Gandalf might not be going our way, unfortunately. : )
AriehnV: hehe unfortunatley
AriehnV: or what would it be in our case five elves and a dwarf ^^
ArPharazonV: Well the story might have spread, so we can use it to our advantage :-)
VardaValar1: Who spread it? : )
VardaValar1: Gloin for one?
ArPharazonV: Could be!
ArPharazonV: Just a little tip for Frali in case he runs into trolls.
VardaValar1: Meren admires Elrond. I wonder what info she would tell him that we and she found, and if she thinks she might learn more given more time, or has cleaned out what she's allowed to look through. Maybe there's a chained off reference section (ring-lore, etc).
AriehnV: i guess
karakedi25: she would probably say she's gone about as far as she currently can in, especially as she thinks there would be no surprises for Elrond. She thinks it more likely that what she has learned will be useful on the journey.
karakedi25: it's possible that there is more that could be shared with her
VardaValar1: Ok, so it sounds as if the only thing we're waiting for before seeing Elrond is Calion's birds. We can't do much more without consulting Elrond?
VardaValar1: or just plain leaving.
karakedi25: it would be a courtesy at least to speak with Elrond before departing
VardaValar1: So we need Calion's post for the new day, then we gather together and go see Elrond.
VardaValar1: We actually need to speak with him first, in case he's inclined to tell us more or otherwise help, as well as be courteous to a host we all admire, and who could have been our High King had he wished.
VardaValar1: (See? Fainan listened in class!)
VardaValar1: (once in a while)
ArPharazonV: Well. Calion could make a post, I guess, if nobody else has anything to add. But I'm wondering if Eonwe would want to add something first. Perhaps concerning the sword research.
VardaValar1: Or spring that on us same as he does on the character? : )
VardaValar1: pardon, spring it on the reader same time as on the characters?
ArPharazonV: Possibly. But I'd like that confirmed first. It kind of irks me to timeskip without consent of all :-)
VardaValar1: Elrond would bring Auros in to tell us what he's learned.
VardaValar1: Agreed.
VardaValar1: He could leave it on a cliffhanger type note, then tell us the results. Be fun.
ArPharazonV: Could be!
VardaValar1: So you would like Eonwe to post first? If he wants to skip to the next day it's ok because we need to wait for the next day at least for the bird scouts. How long do we want to wait on them? Most would be territorial and not go far, but maybe some would go farther?
ArPharazonV: Plan was a day or so, but I left it open intentionally. Could be in the morning, could be in the evening, depending on what time we needed.
ArPharazonV: I would like Eonwe to post first if he wants to post first; what I want is to know *if* he wants to post :-)
VardaValar1: ok, so we need to let Eonwe post or not post his discovery. I can email him to check out today's rp and see what he would like to do.
VardaValar1: er, rp discussion.
ArPharazonV: Sure.
VardaValar1: Anything else we need to bring up at today's meeting? or another? :-)
VardaValar1: *considers hammers on the shelf*
ArPharazonV: Well, posting his discovery was just an example.
VardaValar1: Aye, he'll put up what works best for his part of the story arc. He's working with several other characters too.
ArPharazonV: If he or anyone else wants to post *anything* before the timeskip, I want to know before I make the skip, unless they're okay with flashbacking :-)
ArPharazonV: flashing back?
VardaValar1: Frali? Meren? Anything you want to post first for setup or fun?
VardaValar1: or characterization?
VardaValar1: We do have character traits, right? Obsession with red cloth or whatever?
VardaValar1: Favorite games? Tinkering with something?
AriehnV: i put a quck replly to Calion
VardaValar1: Braiding beards?
AriehnV: a short post
VardaValar1: ahh thanks
karakedi25: sorry trying to stay alive in game
AriehnV: waaaa aaah aah staying alive ..
ArPharazonV: Ah :-) The dwarves are going drinking until it's time to go!
AriehnV: what else should dwarves do :-P
