Before-meeting
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
AriehnV has entered the room.
AriehnV: aiya all :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya both!
VardaValar1: Aiya Phar and Arien :-)
VardaValar1: Inviting
VardaValar1: Tried to pull in a couple of new folks, not happening, heh.
ArPharazonV: Just hanging out on the Timeless Isle for an expected Urdur-spawn, after that I'll log out :-)
VardaValar1: Good luck!
AriehnV: i have to say Cindy is a crap kill on a melee :-\

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: A star shines on the hour of our meeting!
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: Happy to say I should be available for future Sundays. No problem until maybe in November.
VardaValar1: Any other Membership news?
top

VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: Gaming news up from Eonwe on the Games Site
VardaValar1: I put up a batch of pictures on the Tolkien Site from The Bohemian Weasel-(T)
VardaValar1: So many that it might be an unkindness to list them all here?
ArPharazonV: Your call :-)
VardaValar1: One way to handle it is using her link, then you can look down to see the latest updates. Or see the listing on the News, or the listing on the Art News.
VardaValar1: Not sure folks know, but each Tolkien section has its own news page.
VardaValar1: The main News puts together all of them but the Games Site news.
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/art/gallery/BohemianWeasel/caveBohemianWeasel.htm
VardaValar1: That's the direct link to her cave gallery.
VardaValar1: Here's our main art site, in frames:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/frames/artfrms.htm
VardaValar1: and the direct link with no frames:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/art/text/GlitteringCaves.htm
VardaValar1: I usually show things unframed because the News where the transcript is read can be read in frames, and it gets messy. :-)
ArPharazonV: Frameception.
AriehnV: cool i ddnt know that
VardaValar1: Frame within a frame within a frame etc.
ArPharazonV: Fractals all the way...
VardaValar1: If you click on the image on the index page, or on the Valar Guild gif, you go to the framed site.
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org
VardaValar1: You probably know that the index rotates images randomly.
VardaValar1: Just like the News page rotates quotes randomly.
VardaValar1: Now and then new ones are added, or certain types are made more available for certain occasions.
VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Pardon, more under Web
VardaValar1: The Games Site has been updated to show the new level cap of 100 in LotRO. Thanks Eonwe!
ArPharazonV: Soon WoW will have 100 too ...
VardaValar1: Good thing too, since Gorlim just got his third level 100, and I'm working on mine.
VardaValar1: More work for Eonwe. :-)
VardaValar1: Cool, Phar.
top

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Non-WoW, non-LotRO:
VardaValar1: from the Games Site:
VardaValar1: Diable 3:
VardaValar1: Diablo 3, pardon:
VardaValar1: The game guide has been updated to include information from the Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil edition on consoles.
AriehnV: heh
VardaValar1: :-)
VardaValar1: There is now a preview of Greater Rifts.
VardaValar1: Anyone else have Diablo news?
VardaValar1: Hearthstone:
VardaValar1: The Curse of Naxxramas: Frostwyrm Lair is now open.
VardaValar1: Any other Hearthstone news? Phar maybe?
ArPharazonV: Yep, sure.
VardaValar1: Fire away!
ArPharazonV: Yes, Hearthstone open, last wing, so it's now complete, and so are the class challenges for it. All the cards are now in the game :-)
VardaValar1: Exciting!
ArPharazonV: Still been levelling my heroes, got 26 at the end of last week's meeting, but it's starting to get rather slow.
VardaValar1: Longer for the later stuff?
ArPharazonV: Yep. Higher levels take much longer.
ArPharazonV: Still, I knew that going in.
VardaValar1: Normal, aye.
ArPharazonV: Not quitting now!
VardaValar1: Of course not. You're Ar-Pharazon the Golden!
ArPharazonV: Been doing some more flashgaming, but didn't have too much variety. First week where I already had all the kongregate "badges of the day" in advance, so just had to open them :-)
ArPharazonV: But that huge game I mentioned last week where I wanted to get the badges before the game disappears as announced...
ArPharazonV: I got the last ones of those today, so that's one project out of the way ;-)
ArPharazonV: Back to smaller games!
ArPharazonV: As for Diablo III patch 2.1, which I'm planning to join to collect the season-only transmog set...
ArPharazonV: I think it's still on schedule for the end of the month, so won't be long now :-) Probably in a few days!
ArPharazonV: And... one more project I could mention.. but it's warcraft-related so I'll hold it for the next topic.
ArPharazonV: That's it!
VardaValar1: Thank you.

VardaValar1: World of Warcraft:
VardaValar1: from the Games Site:
VardaValar1: See Garrosh's plans to form the Iron Horde begin in the new short story.
VardaValar1: Phar, go ahead. :-)
VardaValar1: One more item, don't let me forget. :-)
ArPharazonV: Well, starting with the in-game stuff, I'll say that I've seen quite a bit of progress.
ArPharazonV: We got Dark Shaman down on heroic, for one thing, in only 2 tries since we even looked up what the fight would be like ;-) Got myself some new warforged pants from it, getting me to 586!
VardaValar1: Nice :-)
ArPharazonV: and on the Timeless Isle I got not just 1, but 2 of the items from rares I've been after! That just leaves 3 weatherstones for me to farm before toy box comes in 6.0. 2 stones from rares, and one from a more farmable elite mob.
ArPharazonV: So I might actually finish all that before the patch :-)
VardaValar1: Go go!
ArPharazonV: Now for the other project...
ArPharazonV: I think I mentioned last week that I was working on a timeline for all Warcraft publications and lore-releases.
ArPharazonV: Early this week I finished it, added some Hearthstone additions as a bit of an afterthought, and it makes for quite a post on my WoW raidguild's forum.
ArPharazonV: All books and stories and comics and patches in one post! Quite useful for those who want to catch up on the lore in the order it was given to us.
ArPharazonV: If you want I'll try to copy it over to the Valarguild forums as well, but I'm using color coding so that might be tricky.
AriehnV: have u got it on a site?
ArPharazonV: The WoW forum has it in its member sections, so no outsiders can access it. But I can try to copy it as I said. Not sure if our forum uses color-coding?
VardaValar1: This is something that might go on the Games Site
ArPharazonV: I do plan on updating it when new things are released, like this week's short story :-)
VardaValar1: And for the programming details, if we don't have color coding,
VardaValar1: Eonwe might be able to rig it for you. :-)
VardaValar1: Ok, so you need easy access. The forum is probably easiest.
VardaValar1: Try posting a small item with color coding and see if it shows?
VardaValar1: We would love to have it on the forum, Phar. :-)
ArPharazonV: *nods*
ArPharazonV: I guess I'll start with the color-legend I put up at the start.
VardaValar1: Eonwe can work with you on making programming dance, probably anything you need.
ArPharazonV: Looks like the actual code is different though. So it's not going to be a straight copy-paste.
VardaValar1: It sounds like a massive project. I look forward to seeing it.
ArPharazonV: I suppose I'll copy the thing over in one go and see what bits of code need fixing.
ArPharazonV: Looks like our background is different too, so I'll need to change at least one of the colors anyway.
ArPharazonV: Anyway, while I do that, continue with gaming news :-)
VardaValar1: okie dokie
VardaValar1: For WoW, Eonwe found this handy link:
VardaValar1: see the updated list of connected realms.
VardaValar1: Also, he emailed his personal WoWing:

VardaValar1: Personal gaming: got Vitreous Stone Drake from Stonecore last week, so I won't need to mount farm that one any more.

VardaValar1: /endquote
VardaValar1: Some folks are hoping the new Garrosh storyline in WoW will help bring back folks that left over the pandas. :-)

VardaValar1: LotRO:
VardaValar1: We have some folk in the 100's now, and working on the new content that that opens up.
AriehnV: oh its gone welcome to our rp community all ready ^^
VardaValar1: Also, if we turn in enough tokens, we can open up two new world areas.

WoW continued:
AriehnV: the garrosh quest line i mean
VardaValar1: Does the Garrosh line seem to be increasing the players or can we tell?

WoW timeline continued: link
ArPharazonV: Hmm, the color-coding does work!
VardaValar1: Huzzah, Phar!
ArPharazonV: But I'll have to change some colors to fit the background, I guess.
ArPharazonV: Look it over, let me know which ones need changing the most for readability.
VardaValar1: Enormous
VardaValar1: I assume you originally posted on a black background?
ArPharazonV: Light-brownish actually. I have black in there, for the years and the semicolons.
ArPharazonV: But those translated to white.
VardaValar1: Maybe we can change the background for you.
VardaValar1: so no problem with the orange letters?
ArPharazonV: Which makes it a good thing that I didn't post anything in white :-)
VardaValar1: The datesa are in white
ArPharazonV: No, not really. A bit light, but still very readable. I think the font-type itself matters too.
VardaValar1: some text
ArPharazonV: Yes, but they started in black on the original post. It's just the default color for the forum.
VardaValar1: ahh ok
ArPharazonV: As in, those are not color-coded.
VardaValar1: Default, aye
ArPharazonV: I think the Valar forum is just a bit too dark to accomodate standard colors :-)
VardaValar1: Going to take quite a while to read through all that. Thank you for all the effort!
VardaValar1: Hmm, what color do you see as the background? I'm on the test coloring.
ArPharazonV: A hint lighter and greyer than the color I use for the magazines.
VardaValar1: ok, we both see gray
ArPharazonV: I think it's the standard one.
ArPharazonV: Yes.
VardaValar1: Do you see a gold light background behind your picture on the left?
ArPharazonV: Heh, the green rpg books actually show up better in this one than the old one.
ArPharazonV: Nope, also grey.
VardaValar1: Ok
ArPharazonV: Looking over the thread, I don't think anything's really unreadable, although some things need a second glance :-)
VardaValar1: We also have some fun default patterns you can try, if you like.
ArPharazonV: Sounds interesting, but wouldn't that only change for me?
VardaValar1: The Hearthstone word is hard to read for me, but running the mouse over to select it brings it right out.
VardaValar1: Yes
VardaValar1: We can all customize it a bit.
VardaValar1: The background, not so much.
ArPharazonV: Hmm, yes.
ArPharazonV: Do you suggest a change for it?
ArPharazonV: The Hearthstone color that is.
ArPharazonV: To be honest I was running out of distinct colors with that one.
VardaValar1: No worries. Easy enough to work out
VardaValar1: and maybe we can come up with a special background color for that post. Eonwe might have some ideas.
VardaValar1: He's really good with the programming end.
ArPharazonV: That'd be nice :-)
VardaValar1: Before we all wander off into Phar's mass of links, any other business or gaming news?
VardaValar1: If not, on to
top

VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: In every good book, even every good scene, there is generally a beginning, middle, and end.
VardaValar1: The beginning sets up a problem, the end solves it, (with a denouement saying what happened to everyone, even the janitor). But the middle is the meat on how the problem is handled.
VardaValar1: It adds more to the problem, giving the whole thing a greater depth.
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25: aiya
VardaValar1: heh, let's repeat that. :-)
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis :-)
VardaValar1: In every good book, even every good scene, there is generally a beginning, middle, and end.
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: The beginning sets up a problem, the end solves it, (with a denouement saying what happened to everyone, even the janitor). But the middle is the meat on how the problem is handled.
VardaValar1: It adds more to the problem, giving the whole thing a greater depth.
karakedi25: Varda has been watching the course videos :-P
VardaValar1: What problem is set up at the beginning of the Lord of the Rings, that the end must resolve?
VardaValar1: Hey, maybe it will give us some variety. :-)
ArPharazonV: The resurfacing of Sauron and the strengthening of the Ring come to mind.
VardaValar1: What to do with this pesky Ring? : )
ArPharazonV: That's a problem to be solved, yes.
ArPharazonV: Get it to safety first, then decide what to do with it, and then go and do it.
ArPharazonV: That's a pretty neat summary of LotR.
VardaValar1: There you go!
VardaValar1: The middle added complicating factors. What are a few?
ArPharazonV: The thing was darn near indestructible, for one.
karakedi25: efforts to stop the Quest, of course
ArPharazonV: And there were some immortal ghosts chasing after it too.
VardaValar1: Aye, nearly indestructible, can't let the
AriehnV: hmm lets seee .. and the small problem that was the nine riders yes
VardaValar1: Enemy know where it is.
VardaValar1: An army would be too visible. But keeping a small group hidden and alive going into Mordor? eep!
AriehnV: some ghosties wanted it as well maybe for themselves .. the dark lord woulnnt have liked that on no
ArPharazonV: Yep, that's also a problem. Turns out the only place to destroy it... is in the lion's den.
karakedi25: more than ghosties wanted it
VardaValar1: Can't just toss it in the forges at Rivendell. argh
VardaValar1: Plus Sauron was waking and calling all evil to him, not just the Ring. Every bad thing was awakening, many moving.
ArPharazonV: Too bad there weren't any other volcanoes in the known world.
VardaValar1: Very nice trick having to go to Mt. Doom.
VardaValar1: Even if there were, it needed to be the one where it was forged. Magic, y'know.
ArPharazonV: Well if it doesn't work you can always wait for it to erupt and chop up the block of lava it was in.
VardaValar1: Then the previous owner wanted it back, and spilled the info on who had it and where it was.
VardaValar1: Sounds like Gollum's plan with Shelob. Let her eat Frodo and then collect the Ring from the, er, leavings.
VardaValar1: So just the original problem set up many more problems. Well-designed.
ArPharazonV: You know, I'd not considered that part of the plan. I didn't think she'd actually try to eat the Ring.
VardaValar1: Even the helpers could turn on the carrier and wreck the mission. We're looking at you, Boromir.
karakedi25: She would eat Frodo and the ring with him
VardaValar1: She was going to eat Frodo.
VardaValar1: The Ring was just part of the lunch.
ArPharazonV: After all, it's a spider. They feed by liquifying (spelling?) their victims. If anything, the Ring would be the last thing non-liquified, so probably in the webbed remains.
karakedi25: or in the left-overs after her meal
AriehnV: thats what Gollum countesd on
VardaValar1: Aye, Gollum expected to make both Shelob and himself very happy.
AriehnV: he would get it after
AriehnV: ..so he thought at least
ArPharazonV: Well, if she did swallow the Ring, he'd just have to follow her around for a while.
VardaValar1: Good thing Frodo couldn't shake Sam. : )
VardaValar1: One way the middle was made complicated was that most of the characters had their own agenda.
VardaValar1: Aragorn wasn't originally going straight to Mordor, but with Boromir to Minas Tirith to take back his kingdom.
VardaValar1: Boromir was just going to find out what the vision meant and return home. Company was welcome for helping survival. The Ring grabbed him and complicated his plan.
VardaValar1: Gimli intended to go all the way and help. Also make sure the Ring didn't fall into the wrong hands.
VardaValar1: Legolas and Gimli were told they didn't have to go over the mountains, I think?
VardaValar1: Just help get them that far?
ArPharazonV: No oath was put on them to go further.
VardaValar1: The other three Hobbits planned on going all the way with Frodo and coming home.
ArPharazonV: Which possibly made them all the more eager to stay :-)
VardaValar1: Agreed!
VardaValar1: Made them more eager to stay with the Fellowship.
VardaValar1: I suspect Legolas expected to go to Minas Tirith with Boromir and Aragorn.
VardaValar1: Any other complicating factors?
VardaValar1: How about terrain?
VardaValar1: Even the lovely places tempt a person to just stay there.
karakedi25: nasty terrain near mordor
ArPharazonV: I believe there was a bit of snow along the way...
VardaValar1: Aye :-)
VardaValar1: Folks, shall we call it here? Typing has aleady killed Indis once, the main cause of Valar death. :-)
VardaValar1: Good fortune in your gaming, your programming, your research, and all the varied things you wonderful people do. :-)
VardaValar1: *swings the Hammer of Thror around*
VardaValar1: *dwarvish runes spin and become one*
VardaValar1: *ker-whummmmp!*
top

VardaValar1: After-meeting!
karakedi25: it wasn't exactly and typing that killed me, it was not looking at the game screen and getting ambushed.
VardaValar1: That is similar, aye. :-)
VardaValar1: I may come in and jump into some of that fun stuff too. : )
karakedi25: - and
ArPharazonV: Sounds painful :-)
karakedi25: namarie
karakedi25 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: namarie!
VardaValar1: Namarie Indis :-)
AriehnV: Namarie all :-)_
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
AriehnV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Namarie Sunshine
VardaValar1: Namarie Phar :-)
VardaValar1 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
