Before-meeting
VardaValar1 (VardaValar1) has entered the room.
ArPharazon-V (ArPharazonV) has entered the room.
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
ArPharazonV: Aiya Varda!
AriehnV has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Heya.
AriehnV: aiya :-)
Eonwe Valar: How goes it?
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
AriehnV: still holidays .. still happy rping and gaming away :-)
VardaValar1: Aiya ::-)
Eonwe Valar: Cool :}
VardaValar1: Had to Web that bunch of hobgoblins for our table-top group, and declare Daze on hobs nearest me flanking the eidellon.
VardaValar1: Good you could make it, Eonwe!
VardaValar1: Aiya Arien and Phar :-)
AriehnV: hehe so they cant move for the next hour?
VardaValar1: Well, actually, they were carrying torches so the web is now on fire.
VardaValar1: 40 foot diameter web.
AriehnV: so roasted hobgoblins for dinner ... tasty
VardaValar1: *pewie*
Eonwe Valar: So now they lit themselves on fire with the web they're in? :}
VardaValar1: Right!
VardaValar1: and didn't see it coming.
VardaValar1: The rest of the group will be mopping them up, and the other hobs that weren't in reach.
VardaValar1: Tolkien is very much affecting our play!
ArPharazonV: And suddenly, the GM's challenging encounter was cut short by a devious ability.
VardaValar1: One of the group is a halfling, for instance.
VardaValar1: Cut in half. And he has plenty more in store.
ArPharazonV: Tolkien? What if the Mirkwood spiders faced the tree-on-fire-setting goblins in the Mountains?
VardaValar1: Sauron-(Valar) is an excellent GM.
VardaValar1: Gimli-(V) is playing our hunter, as a half-elf.
VardaValar1: hmm
VardaValar1: They might back away from the fires.
AriehnV: say hello to them from me :-)
VardaValar1: Then spray out their webs.
VardaValar1: I don't think the Mirkwood spiders shot out webs though, more like wrapped.
VardaValar1: They had drag lines, I'm sure.
ArPharazonV: Pff, amateurs.

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: We just had a little membership news there. :-)
VardaValar1: Indis had surgery on the 20th, and is showing as visible on AIM, maybe from her phone since no Group Chat is showing.
ArPharazonV: Any news?
VardaValar1: I messaged. Don't know anything beyond that.
ArPharazonV: Well if she's on her phone it can't have been that bad.
VardaValar1: Aug. 19 Elwing had her birthday.
VardaValar1: She spent it in Colorado (Melkor country) with DeepGroover-(T), her brother, for the Nationals in modeling competition.
VardaValar1: DeepGroover took two awards away with him. : )
ArPharazonV: Oh, that kind of model.
VardaValar1: He says:
VardaValar1: I earned a 2nd place in the heavily contested and well-represented small figure category with one of my small 28mm war game figures
VardaValar1: The other was a 1st place for my "Bust of the Living Dead"....which resulted from a 3-way split in busts. (There were so many bust entries the judges divided them into pre-1900, post-1900, and fantasy.)
VardaValar1: end quote
VardaValar1: This is quite a feat, and well-deserved.
VardaValar1: His figure models are on display in the SS. Lexington's museum, if you ever get a chance to go there.
VardaValar1: and he has fantasy models on our site, of course.
VardaValar1: Any other membership news?

VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: We could use anything for the Hobbit movies, as people are and will be doing searches on related subjects, and it would be nice if our site comes up when they do their hunting.

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Non-WoW, non-LotRO gaming:
VardaValar1: Diablo 3, info from Eonwe:
VardaValar1: The expansion for Diablo 3, Reaper of Souls, has been announced! Check out the information so far at the official site
VardaValar1: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/age?r=%2Fd3%2Fen%2Freaper-of-souls%2F
VardaValar1: StarCraft/BroodWar gaming for Fangorn and Varda. : )
VardaValar1: Any other news in this section?
ArPharazonV: Bit more flashgaming. And also a lot of Creeper World, now almost done with the first full game.
Eonwe Valar: SC2 patch 2.0.11.
AriehnV: Rift for me
ArPharazonV: Yes, and season 5 for SC2 is about to start, right?
Eonwe Valar: Looks like it.
VardaValar1: We assume Fladrif is still battling it out in Chess tournaments.
VardaValar1: Good luck!
ArPharazonV: Is he invited? I spot him in AIM but not MSN.
VardaValar1: I invited him, and messaged on AIM
Eonwe Valar: I invited him on my way in as well.

VardaValar1: Any WoW news?
ArPharazonV: Patch announced for September 10.
VardaValar1: The one where they make a mess of the nice looking landscape of the pandas?
ArPharazonV: Vale of Eternal Blossom as well as the Northern Barrens content for the last patch is changing and/or disappearing, so if you have anything you still need to do...
ArPharazonV: ...go do it!
VardaValar1: and Hellscream thinks he'll kick out of the Horde such unnecessary sorts as tauren, blood elves, and the like?
ArPharazonV: Horde players won't like that!
ArPharazonV: Well, maybe the Orc players do.
Eonwe Valar: Once it's gone, you won't be able to get the achievement or title for doing the 5.3 stuff.
ArPharazonV: Aye. And the pet and the Brawler invitation will be much harder to get.
VardaValar1: My troll is already gnashing her tusks when she considers the subject. Where will they go? A second Horde group?
VardaValar1: Or more likely Hellscream's won't be called Horde anymore, effectively kicking him and his out.
VardaValar1: Thanks. Good reminders!
ArPharazonV: That seems likely, yes :-)

VardaValar1: LotRO:
AriehnV: i remember Garrosh saying something like "They will no longer be part of MY Horde!"
VardaValar1: We had a member ask about LI's, so here's a handy link for looking up all sorts of LotRO info:
VardaValar1: http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Main_Page
VardaValar1: heh, sounds right.
fladrifv has entered the room.
fladrifv has left the room.
fladrifv: Ayia
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
fladrifv has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Room doesn't appear to display you in the list.
ArPharazonV: Ah.

VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: The big news right now in Tolkien is the final result of the Tolkien Trivia contest on the Forum!
VardaValar1: Flad is still trying to re-enter the chat.
VardaValar1: Eonwe, could you tell us about the contest?
Eonwe Valar: Certainly.
VardaValar1: Eonwe the Brave is still typing one-handed. : )
Eonwe Valar: The contest started last week, and ended midnight VST today. The results of the participants have been tallied. Thank you to all who participated :}
ArPharazonV: Joke's on you, I submitted my answers on sunday. My sunday, anyway.
fladrifv has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: *scratches Phar's score out*
Eonwe Valar: j/k :}
Eonwe Valar: The results of the trivia are as follow:

karakedi25 has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiya Indis
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis :-)
VardaValar1: Welcome!
VardaValar1: Now you get to copy paste that, Eonwe. : )
karakedi25: aiya all
Eonwe Valar: With scores that high, I'm thinking the questions were too easy and the bonus was unnecessary (everyone also got the bonus correct) :} That's ok though, because the next one will have a real good bonus question now :}
karakedi25: logged on to let y'all know I'm home
AriehnV: 1st - Arien with 9.5 points totalArien V 10:34 pm :-D whooot :-D ArPharazonV 10:34 pm Grats!Eonwe Valar 10:35 pm 2nd - Tie between Pharazon and Indis at 8.5 points each.
VardaValar1: Excellent! Glad you're home!

karakedi25: thanks
AriehnV: congratulations and Welcome back home Indis L:-)
karakedi25: congrats Arien
Eonwe Valar: For those interested, answers can be requested in a side window or during Aftermeeting when they can be stricken from the meeting record, in the chance these questions, or some form thereof, are used in the future.
Eonwe Valar: For those winning prizes, congrats, and let me know how you want your prizes :}
EonweValar: That's it from me on the current trivia. Keep your eyes open for the next!
VardaValar1: Thank you very much, Eonwe!
karakedi25: yes indeed, thanks

VardaValar1: For a quick Tolkien chat discussion, what decoys occurred that pulled Sauron's attention away from where the One Ring actually was?
ArPharazon-V (ArPharazonV) has left the room.
Arien V: mmmmh The Lords of the West attacking openly at the black gate
Arien V: Aragorn revealing himself
Arien V: unintentionally Pippin looking into the Palantir
karakedi25: shooting down black riders in Rohan
ArPharazon-V (ArPharazonV) has entered the room.
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
ArPharazonV: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Last thing I saw was
ArPharazonV: Eonwe Valar: For those winning prizes, congrats, and let me know how you want your prizes :}
ArPharazonV: So if you want the missing bits in my transcript, copy it down here :-)
VardaValar1: EonweValar: That's it from me on the current trivia. Keep your eyes open for the next! VardaValar1: Thank you very much, Eonwe! karakedi25: yes indeed, thanks VardaValar1: For a quick Tolkien chat discussion, what decoys occurred that pulled Sauron's attention away from where the One Ring actually was?ArPharazon-V (ArPharazonV) has left the room. Arien V: mmmmh The Lords of the West attacking openly at the black gateArien V: Aragorn revealing himself Arien V: unintentionally Pippin looking into the Palantir karakedi25: shooting down black riders in RohanArPharazon-V (ArPharazonV) has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Allright.
VardaValar1: Those are the same annoying line space additions that Phar's fair copies of the transcript leave out. Tremendously valuable.
ArPharazonV: Does Frodo being taken prisoner while Sam was able to keep the Ring away, count as a distraction, since the Orcs were focusing on Frodo?
VardaValar1: Merry and Pippin as the other pair of hobbits.
VardaValar1: Aye, it does. The Ring was with Sam.
karakedi25: Everything Gandalf did, and of course ultimately Saruman's meddling
ArPharazonV: Going back a bit, thinking that a Hobbit at the shores of the Anduin, akin to Gollum, had the Ring, kept the Nazgul distracted from the Shire for a bit :-)
VardaValar1: Funny how Saruman unintentionally did what he was supposed to, by causing Sauron problems.
VardaValar1: Aye Phar : )
karakedi25: Everything that took place away from the trajectory that led through Minas Tirith to Mordor, including the defenses of Erebor and Lothlorien
VardaValar1: Good point.
Eonwe Valar: Evil will oft evil mar :}
ArPharazonV: In other words, allies are unreliable?
Eonwe Valar: Evil allies are unreliable even to other evil allies, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: Rohan was a reliable ally.
ArPharazonV: Well, yes, I mean, if you're evil.
VardaValar1: To be evil, they are into self-interest, making them poor allies.
karakedi25: or at least unreliable, when push comes to their own desires
VardaValar1: Well said
ArPharazonV: Did Saruman fail Sauron directly due to his own desires?
AriehnV: oh what was it that Bele said tonight " (one of my roleplaying friends) : being evil is more effort ^^
karakedi25: don't forget poor Fatty Bolger in Crickhollow
ArPharazonV: Or was it more that Saruman made a less reliable front than Sauron had hoped?
VardaValar1: Just trying to keep up with the lie web is really tough.
ArPharazonV: Oh yes, Fatty was a nice distraction :-)
VardaValar1: Fatty for sure!
VardaValar1: And Merry, setting up Crickhollow.
karakedi25: Indeed
ArPharazonV: The whole of Crickhollow was a distraction.
VardaValar1: Agreed
VardaValar1: That distraction even helped Frodo move in the desired direction.
karakedi25: And in LotRO, we bit players had the chance to set up some distractions in Eregion
VardaValar1: It is interesting to think about how much else was going on to help distract from the Fellowship. The elves would certainly have been setting up all sorts of things.
karakedi25: fer sure
karakedi25: and whatever dwarven activity there was in Moria would also contribute
ArPharazonV: I'm pretty sure Moria was supposed to be abandoned :-)
karakedi25: I don't think there's much information, but it's possible there was an expedition or two. How could the poor gonhirrim resist?
VardaValar1: The door was suddenly visible again, thanks to the trees piled up and other stuff the Watcher in the Water did. Maybe it set off some dwarven activity?
Eonwe Valar: I vaguely remember something from HoME concerning Moria and recolonization, but It'd take me forever to find right now.
ArPharazonV: Well yes, but that was after the War of the Ring, if I recall.
VardaValar1: It's true, they did go back to recolonize. Seems like they did well for quite a while and had problems again. Right, it was after the WotR.
VardaValar1: But even so, after the Fellowship went through, we don't get to see anymore what was going on back there.
VardaValar1: Dwarves may well have started poking around.
karakedi25: And the biggest distraction of all would be Minas Tirith and Gondor themselves, sitting practically on Sauron's doorstep. I'd guess the big eye put a lot of attention there.
VardaValar1: True. And Aragorn tried to hold it there, as if he was the new ruler made bold by the Ring.
karakedi25: and of course he *was* the returned king, with all the memes thereto attached
VardaValar1: Aye
karakedi25: and the defeat of the Witch King was an unexpected blow
VardaValar1: The fact that he had a dwarf and elf with him would also be unsettling, as if those peoples had united with Aragorn.
karakedi25: quite so, to say nothing of a few extra hobbits
VardaValar1: Aye, the ringwraith leader was gone. Suppose they had a power tussle going on? : )
VardaValar1: heh, not hobbits!
VardaValar1: Sauron probably kept the Nazgul under total control, but each had wanted power very much for whatever reason, so they were certainly eyeing that number one spot.
VardaValar1: Another distraction indeed.
ArPharazonV: And suddenly Aragorn had undead under his banner! While necromancy was Sauron's domain! How dare he!
VardaValar1: haha - the Oathbreakers!
karakedi25: Chaos in the ranks!
VardaValar1: Gang, I really have to go. I'll bang the gavel, but please feel free to enjoy each other's company and chat if you're still up to it! Walking Wounded, Falling Asleep folks.
VardaValar1: *thonk*

AriehnV: have fun
VardaValar1: I left a nice post and will scroll back at odd moments. :-)
VardaValar1: Just when you least expect it. And I posted last, hah!
VardaValar1: *slips away*
karakedi25: ok, friends, I'm going to slip away as well and dig up some dinner....shall I mix a new batch of pesto? Hmmmmmm....
