Before-meeting:
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Heya and Happy New Year :}
VardaValar1: Aiya Ar-Pharazon and Eonwe! :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya! Happy new year!
ArPharazonV: yay, exalted with Avengers of Hyjal about half an hour ago. That makes 55 factions exalted, 59 if you count the steamwheedle ones that have dropped again
VardaValar1: That's a lot of rep work!
ArPharazonV: Best part of WoW!
top

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: Lots of the gang are busy celebrating for New Years or getting over celebrating. :-)
VardaValar1: Nice sized group in LotRO right this minute.
VardaValar1: Elwing is visiting at our house. Yay!
VardaValar1: Any membership news you two would like to share?
VardaValar1: It's that time of year again when the Membership page must show who is going to be counted for the new year.
VardaValar1: I've been wondering what to do about the folks who didn't leave our LotRO group but have not logged into them for over a year. Are they members for the new year or not, if we haven't heard from them elsewhere?
VardaValar1: Often enough they'll suddenly pop in, such as when we got free to play, or new expansions. Or no sign of them.
ArPharazonV: I'd keep them on some provisionary rank in the lotro guild..group..clan.. kinship.. whatever it's called
VardaValar1: I drop them to recruit if they go over a year, to protect the kin bank.
ArPharazonV: Aye.
VardaValar1: And let them keep the name as if they were somewhat active, since they didn't delete?
ArPharazonV: I've got characters in my guild who haven't logged in for over 4 years ;-)
VardaValar1: Anyway, that's how it's been handled. It does mothball some names.
VardaValar1: heh, I feel better now. :-)
Eonwe Valar: If they haven't been seen or heard from in that long, I'd treat them like any other member in that situation. They still have the option to rejoin if they do become active again.
Eonwe Valar: I've got names in the WoW branch that haven't been logged in for a while, but all of those have been active in the Guild in some other fashion.
VardaValar1: If I kick them from the LotRO kin, some have difficulty locating us again.
ArPharazonV: Aye, that's why I'd keep them demoted, not kicked. The kin being linked to the overall guild can be a problem there though.
VardaValar1: AuSteinM-(T) says hi! He's just heading out to dinner.
VardaValar1: and he says Happy New Year. :-)
ArPharazonV: Maybe you can establish an even lower rank to designate players who have been inactive'd out of the main guild but you still want in the kinship for future contact.
ArPharazonV: happy new year to him!
VardaValar1: No lower one is available.
Eonwe Valar: Happy New Year to him!
ArPharazonV: Oh? There's a limit in LotRO?
VardaValar1: Yes.
ArPharazonV: Too bad.
Eonwe Valar: I assume we have an e-mail for these people?
VardaValar1: Recruit, Full Member, Officer, Leader, Heir.
VardaValar1: Some do not have emails that work.
Eonwe Valar: There's a limit in WoW too last I recall, just a bit more generous at 10 ranks.
VardaValar1: Leader and Heir are just for one person each. So we have three for the group.
ArPharazonV: We've got 8 ranks atm. One just for inactives.
VardaValar1: Ok, I'll mull over what you two have said.
VardaValar1: Web:
ArPharazonV: leader, 2nd in command, officer's alts with same rankname as normal members, officers, more officers, normal members, trials and incactives ;-)
VardaValar1: No new news here. Fireworks on today's page.
ArPharazonV: ..*inactives
VardaValar1: I'm ok with the recruit rank for inactives, but haven't decided how to handle it as overall guild except to mention that they haven't been seen in a long time and show the year.
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25: Aiya
VardaValar1: If someone else wants the name, they may lose it if it's been seriously long.
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis.
VardaValar1: Happy New Year :-)
Eonwe Valar: I think a year of inactivity is plenty of time for them to have got in touch.
karakedi25: Same to you all
karakedi25: which name are you talking about?
Eonwe Valar: Heya and Happy New year, Indis :}
ArPharazonV: LotRO
ArPharazonV: oh, name, not game
VardaValar1: Not yours, you're very active. :-)
Eonwe Valar: We're discussing the annual member sweep.
VardaValar1: Every year we have to decide who to drop from the rolls of membership.
karakedi25: I didn't think it was mine.
ArPharazonV: *steals Indis' name*
ArPharazonV: Thieeeves!
VardaValar1: LotRO makes it hard, because we have inactives well over a year.
VardaValar1: yet the character is still in the kin, not deleted. They tend to lose their contact info.
fladrifv has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Happy New Year, Fladrif :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya Flad :-)
fladrifv: Happy new year! and Aiya
ArPharazonV: I should've warned you about the meeting, really. Silly me.

VardaValar1: Eonwe, did you have any web news?
fladrifv: an ent is never late
VardaValar1: ;-)
fladrifv: or was it an ent is never early
VardaValar1: heheeh
ArPharazonV: An ent is never hasty.
fladrifv: thats for sure :-)
Eonwe Valar: Nothing except that the 2012 Gaming News Page went up not long after the new year began.
VardaValar1: Huzzah!
VardaValar1: For the late-comers, did you have any membership news you wanted to share?
Eonwe Valar: Nothing but a Happy New year declaration is on it, but it's there, hehe.
VardaValar1: Nice :-)
VardaValar1: Ok, assuming you folks had nothing to add. :-)

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Any non-WoW, non-LotRO gaming news?
ArPharazonV: More flashgames, though nearly all of them christmas-themed ;-)
ArPharazonV: It seems the holidays are inspiring a lot of people.
VardaValar1: Not just window-dressing? Cosmetic make-over for the season?
ArPharazonV: Well, mostly christmas versions of existing games.
ArPharazonV: But the characters usually wear christmas hats and the objects are replaced by presents or snowballs, and there's christmas music and snow in the background...
ArPharazonV: Take a normal game, add that, and you've got a new game ;-)
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Christmas present games are in play now too. :-)
VardaValar1: Sauron is on Star Wars: The Old Republic. He may surface for air now and then.

VardaValar1: LotRO:
VardaValar1: Monday we tried Annuminas: Glinghant, picked up a stack of... can't think of the new name... medallions? marks?
VardaValar1: Wednesday we completed the Prancing Pony 12-man skirmish.
karakedi25: marks are the lowest category
VardaValar1: We got better than the lowest, so it would be marks and medallions probably.
VardaValar1: Seals are for bosses, right?
VardaValar1: I was not present for the Saturday run.
VardaValar1: Pardon, phone. Eonwe, could you take hte gavel for WoW now?
Eonwe Valar: Sure.

Eonwe Valar: WoW:
Eonwe Valar: Winter Veil is wrapping up soon. Get your last Greench runs in before Tuesday.
Eonwe Valar: Fire works should be going on in Booty Bay for the New Year, every hour on the hour. Watch out if you're on a PvP server.
VardaValar1: Arwen says hi by phone. :-)
Eonwe Valar: Heya to Arwen :}
VardaValar1: She's working on reinstalling AIM
ArPharazonV: *grin* got one more shot at the pet from the Greench daily... tonight between 3 and 6 am
ArPharazonV: gonna be a late one!
Eonwe Valar: Looks like she succeeded :}
arwenv1 has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
ArPharazonV: and happy new year
arwenv1: Hello!
VardaValar1: Happy New Year, Arwen!
arwenv1: Happy new Year too! :-)
karakedi25: aiya
Eonwe Valar: Sunday Run: As I said last week, last Sunday was a free day.
Eonwe Valar: Friday Run: I came in late. Elwing, Varda, and Fangorn worked on their low level characters again.
Eonwe Valar: Today, being New Year's Day, is also going to be a free day.
Eonwe Valar: That concludes my WoW report.
Eonwe Valar: And Heya and Happy New Year Arwen :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming/other business before we move to Tolkien?
ArPharazonV: Darkmoon Faire started again :-)
ArPharazonV: I calculated that I need all the dailies, all the profession quests, both card decks I have in the bank, and 8 out of the 9 artefacts this week to get to exalted ;-) Hope the math was correct.
Eonwe Valar: That's right, it's the first ful week of the month :} Good, I've got a bunch of stuff to turn in :}
Eonwe Valar: Good luck :}
Eonwe Valar: Might as well whisper me Tolkien topics, or you'll get mine :}
top

Eonwe Valar: Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: The RP was a recommended topic.
Eonwe Valar: I was going to make a post in the new discussion thread about this, but as I didn't get to it during the week, we can discuss it now.
ArPharazonV: Yes. Arien's not here tonight, was picking up tickets for something, but she wanted me to pass some elaboration for what she wanted for Frali.
VardaValar1: Thanks, Phar :-)
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead Phar.
ArPharazonV: We worked it out that what she wants for Frali most is to be more confident, with a sense of humor, a bit sarcastic, basically coming out of his shell. There's also things like being courageous and skilled with weapons, but she feels like he already possesses those characteristics.
ArPharazonV: So the main idea is to find some way to get him more confident, out of his shell, opened up. No need for a new character.
ArPharazonV: I'm sure we'll find ways to do that along the way :-)
ArPharazonV: Allright, that's pretty much it.
ArPharazonV: If Arien still shows up tonight, she might be able to give more details.
Eonwe Valar: The transition itself could provide for some interesting writing, if she so desires. I cite Merry and Pippin again, hehe.
ArPharazonV: To be fair, Merry and Pippin really made themselves useful when they were on their own, or with less of the fellowship around.
Eonwe Valar: But aye, I'm sure there will be oppportunities for Frali "to show his quality" :}
ArPharazonV: I'm not sure if splitting up the party is a good idea for us ;-)
VardaValar1: We should not split up.
VardaValar1: Not only bad for the party, but murder on the writing.
Eonwe Valar: My point was more, for a better example, to consider Merry's riding to war. He didn't want to be left behind "as baggage" and when an opportunity presented itself, he took it.
Eonwe Valar: And of course now the rest is history :}
Eonwe Valar: I also wanted to discuss some things more generally for the RP. The first chapter is likely to be fairly short. The question then becomes *what* questions/situations specifically the first chapter should seek to address.
Eonwe Valar: For example, for those characters who may not have reason as of yet to continue the journey, that reason should be introduced.
ArPharazonV: Could also be a chapter for planning, if we want to go into it that deep.
ArPharazonV: Also, I want to see at least a dozen LotR cameos ;-)
VardaValar1: Fellowship, Elrond, Glorfindel, Erestor? :-)
ArPharazonV: Perhaps!
VardaValar1: Gloin
ArPharazonV: Bilbo, Gloin, Arwen
Eonwe Valar: We probably ought to more clearly define/discuss the properties of the item(s) we're dealing with, not necessarily in the story, but at least in the discussion thread where it can be (relatively) easily accessible.
Eonwe Valar: Or if not define, then enumerate so we have easy access to what we're dealing with for story purposes.
Eonwe Valar: Anything else we should be looking at? Or comments on the ones I gave?
Eonwe Valar: And sure, some of Tolkien's characters appearing would be expected, so long as it's not Sauron :}
ArPharazonV: "Gollum? What are you doing here?" "Tracked the precioussss"
Eonwe Valar: And of course other characters that wouldn't be in Rivendell at the time of the Fellowship's departure shouldn't be there either :} Manwë and Varda are not going to be standing next to Elrond waving good-bye and good luck to the Fellowship :}
VardaValar1: Not visibly. ^^
ArPharazonV: Maybe we can slip in some advice to a Fellowship member which ends up saving Middle-Earth, but I can't think of anything.
Eonwe Valar: Well, they can be standing atop Taniquetil watching the departure, but I don't think we could reasonably work that into the story, hehe.
Eonwe Valar: "Ok fine Sam, don't listen! You'll be wanting that rope soon!" :}
VardaValar1: hehe
ArPharazonV: Something like that, yes!
ArPharazonV: "Now Sam, when you see a Mumakil, don't go running and hugging it. Those beasties are dangerous!"
Eonwe Valar: We should probably steer away from prophetic or near-prophetic advice :}
VardaValar1: Agreed. :-)
ArPharazonV: "Pippin, lad, take it from me; if you ever find yourself tied up by orcs and under attack by horsemen, don't stay put; the horsemen won't recognize you from orcs during the night. Just get out of there quick, preferably to some dark forest."
VardaValar1: On that great note, shall we call it a night? :-)
ArPharazonV: What, already? So many more possibilities!
top

VardaValar1: After-meeting!
VardaValar1: Possibilities may now commence. ^^
VardaValar1: I have to call After-meeting before Menelvagor can arrive, you know. ;-)
ArPharazonV: Hah.
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: Now he can show up! :-)
VardaValar1: *looks around*
VardaValar1: *sneaks off for supper*
ArPharazonV: enjoy
VardaValar1: *chomp munch*
VardaValar1: Thanks :-)
arwenv1: numnums :-)
VardaValar1: Namarie!
VardaValar1 has left the room.
karakedi25: namarie
karakedi25 has left the room.
AriehnV has entered the room.
AriehnV: aiya and a happy new year belatedly :-)
AriehnV: just back from a very lively and brilliant village dance
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
AriehnV: :-)
ArPharazonV: I did speak about what you wanted for Frali, but if there's something you like to say yourself, this will still go in the transcript
AriehnV: I think he needs something where he has to come out of his snail house
AriehnV: so its up to you guys to produce that :-)
fladrifv: hooms the new years mid winter sleeping horn
fladrifv: namarie lively ones
AriehnV: hoom hoom ent :-D a happy new year indeed
ArPharazonV: Namarie Mr. Ent.
fladrifv: hail Arien a year fulloflight wished for you
AriehnV: *bows* may your branches and roots grow stronger and your leaves never fade , Treawarden
