Eonwe Valar: Gaming:
Eonwe Valar: Star Wars: The Old Republic
Eonwe Valar: We've got members there, and Sauron has volunteered to be our guy on the ground there.
Eonwe Valar: Our official server is Rubat Crystal. We've got people on both Empire and Republic side.
Eonwe Valar: Or rather, the people there are on both sides.
AriehnV: hehe
Eonwe Valar: So Varda, I've got Sauron, Oromė, Menelvagor, and Thranduil as being there.
Eonwe Valar: *So far rather. Don't no how "Varda" got in there.
VardaValar1: Menelvagor is on as Tingilinde
GwaihirValar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Gwaihir :-)
VardaValar1: We were just talking about our fledgling Star Wars: The Old Republic Valar group
ArPharazonV: Aiya
GwaihirValar: hello
Eonwe Valar: Anything you wanted to add about our group there, Varda?
VardaValar1: aye
VardaValar1: Our Ventrilo has a section for the SW:TOR group. That should help us get together better.
VardaValar1: Alliance and Republic can't talk directly to each other in-game, so that should be handy.
VardaValar1: Thanks to Irmo for settng that up. :-)
VardaValar1: If someone figures how to make a channel in there, let us know!
VardaValar1: That was all my news for SW.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}

AriehnV: I ve got a character on Rift
AriehnV: Darainan , a Guardian
VardaValar1: What server?
AriehnV: Riptalon
VardaValar1: Thanks
Eonwe Valar: I'll make sure that's noted on the next Member Games Update.
AriehnV: ok cheers :-)
Eonwe Valar: (which will be in the next couple of hours :})

Eonwe Valar: WoW:
Eonwe Valar: Sunday Run:
Eonwe Valar: Attending:
Eonwe Valar: Members:Varda, Eonwe, Fangorn, Glorfindel, Bilbo
Eonwe Valar: Guild Friends: Kaz (Aka, Lumierre, Rayearth, etc.)
Eonwe Valar: First, Varda, Eonwė, Fangorn, Glorfindel, and Bilbo went into Obsidian Sanctum. Since we didn't have enough to try for the hard mode and get someone the draek, we just went for the normal achievemnt of killing all the bosses.
Eonwe Valar: After that, Kaz joined us and we went through Naxxramas, picking up several of the achievements. We're still short two, so we'll have to go back again sometime.
Eonwe Valar: Friday Run:
Eonwe Valar: Attending: Eonwė, Bilbo, Varda, Sauron, Eowyn, Glorfindel
Eonwe Valar: First, Eonwė, Bilbo, Varda, and Sauron ran a couple of random heroics, pugging the last spot. We ended up with Lost City of the Tol'vir and Vortex Pinnacle.
Eonwe Valar: Then Eowyn joined us and we did End Time and Well of Eternity.
Eonwe Valar: After that, Varda called it a night and Glorfindel joined us, and we went into Blackrock Cavern, but Glorfindel had some latency issues and ended up leaving early in the run. The rest of us pressed on and finished the dungeon.
Eonwe Valar: (Pugging the spots guildies didn't fill, of course.)
VardaValar1: (My priest got 5 upgrades out of the runs that night.)
ArPharazonV: Not bad.
Eonwe Valar: In other WoW news, the Lunar Festival should be starting soon.
Eonwe Valar: Don't miss your chance to get the achievments, if that's appealing to you :}
galdorandwe has entered the room.
galdorandwe: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: LotRO:
VardaValar1: Aiya Galdor :-)
Eonwe Valar: Varda's floor for LotRO :}
AriehnV: aiya Galdor
VardaValar1: Monday Jan 9th was Meriadoc-(V)'s birthday. :-) (Grats, little brother!)
ArPharazonV: grats!

LotRO:
VardaValar1: Monday was supposed to be a scheduled LotRO run night, but not enough folks had interest at that time. We did runs at lots of unscheduled times, but they weren't recorded.
VardaValar1: Wednesday's run we 12-manned skirmishes with Lhee group. (Lhee is Amroth-V in case anyone doesn't remember.)
galdorandwe: Which toon was that?
VardaValar1: I don't understand the question, Galdor.
galdorandwe: Which toon was the person you just mentioned, Kimli?
VardaValar1: No
VardaValar1: Lhee has a lot of toons, some in our kin, some in others. But his main is a lore-master named Lhee.
VardaValar1: He brought together folks from various kins who raid well together, that we just call Lhee group. Valarites join in with them too.
galdorandwe: I was just curious which one of those folks was Amroth
VardaValar1: None of them that day. He was working, I believe.
galdorandwe: Ah
VardaValar1: Eomer and Varda's minstrel did a string of Fangorn's Edge instances, one of the new Isengard instances, with Haldern who is now a guild-friend. I've run with him since then and chatted with him until late just last night. :-)
VardaValar1: Lhee group also has a presence in SW:TOR on Ebon Hawk, as I believe we've mentioned.
VardaValar1: Saturday's run is not yet online, but in brief:
ArPharazonV: Hmm, food. Afk for a short while.
galdorandwe: enjoy
VardaValar1: We completed 12-man Battle in the Tower at Tier 2, Breaching the Necromancer's Gate, and Attack at Dawn. The first run was Valar except one guild friend, Anrisa. By the third one we brought in other guild friends to replace Valarites who had to leave.
VardaValar1: All runs were completed.
VardaValar1: We practiced our system of using numbers to handle fellowship maneuvers instead of colors.
VardaValar1: We're trying to make that our normal practice in all runs now, since it is efficient.
VardaValar1: Also about Fellowship Maneuvers, some folks were having problems with their cursors disappearing and being unable to join the FM, so
VardaValar1: Miriel put up a post on the forum on how to do it from the keyboard, no cursor needed.
VardaValar1: It will also go up on the News, but is probably most helpful to find from the forum.
VardaValar1: Any other LotRO news?
VardaValar1: oh
VardaValar1: Tuesday LotRO gets an update.
VardaValar1: Patch notes will go up during the downtime in the morning.
VardaValar1: Galdor seems to be typing something?
galdorandwe: Nim and I took Miriel and Irmo on a Dragon raid [Draigoch] thismorning in order to get more of our regular Saturday crew familiar with the raid...hopefully we'll have the whole group nready to run the raid soon.
VardaValar1: Nice :-)
VardaValar1: The Melkorrim did their usual Sunday morning run also. No reports come in on those, sorry.
galdorandwe: We could probably do it as soon as we get a Tank and Healer familiar with the top part and the head on phase 3
VardaValar1: I ran with Miriel and Irmo in some book skirmishes. Then later they took Melkor through as well.
VardaValar1: Do we have any working on it now, Galdor?
VardaValar1: Miriel and Irmo?
VardaValar1: This was just their first time this morning.
galdorandwe: Well, we'd need to bring them on an actual run with someone who knows that part of the raid. Sadly, the rest of us are only familiar with the FM and DPS groups
VardaValar1: They said they were helped by Xax who's been handling those Sunday runs.
galdorandwe: Perhaps the next time we run it, Miriel can be the healer with the Tank
VardaValar1: Tinwetari hopes to be useful for that in the future. Still setting up.
galdorandwe: Yes, Xax is from Hobbitual and a wonderful person. He's ready Tolkien's works and I briefly addressed the poosibility but I didn't want to poach :-)
galdorandwe: * read
VardaValar1: He's one of those helping us learn.
VardaValar1: We can also learn from others, such as Lhee group.
VardaValar1: That was all my news. : )
galdorandwe: There is other news...Landroval has been on again with regularity and we'l see more of him. Very happy about that.
VardaValar1: That's true. He has been back, as has Nerdanel. : )
Eonwe Valar: Thanks for the LotRo reports :}
Eonwe Valar: The Member Games Listing on the Games Site is now updated. Make sure you're checkign your gamign info often to ensure it contains the most up-to-date (and correct) info.
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news before we move to Tolkien? Now would also be a good time to whisper me Tolkien Topics.

VardaValar1: Anyone interested in EVE Online needs to contact Pallando. At least let him have your level one character in the Valar Guild corp for encouragement. :-)
ArPharazonV: Back from food.
AriehnV: wb Phara
VardaValar1: Aiyata, meldo. : )
AriehnV: And Varda you dont have levels in Eve just various ships with different skills and firepower and armor
VardaValar1: Thanks. Then some character.
AriehnV: and other ships have other nasty tricks like stealthing or being able to launch bombs or warp interrupters lol
AriehnV: its all right :-) needs a lot of training and time , else you spend your time online doing quests missions and making gold
VardaValar1: Just show Pallando that he has other Valar that care.
Eonwe Valar: OK, looks like there's no more gaming news :}
AriehnV: will see .. i ve laid low eve for a while but if he is back and do some babysitting for me then or start a new character that could fly around with me why not
top

Eonwe Valar: Tolkien:
AriehnV: sure , Eonwe go ahead with Tolkien Talk then :-)
Eonwe Valar: Working out a topic, pardon :}
VardaValar1: Suggestons are welcome. :-)
VardaValar1: Galdor is afk to cook dinner.
Eonwe Valar: Tolkien Topic, based on a suggestion by Arien, which I think gives the gist of it (she can correct me if she'd like):
Eonwe Valar: In what ways did the Valar assist the Free Peoples during the War of the Ring? When, where, etc.
VardaValar1: One was sending the 5 Istari to advise the Free People vs Sauron.
ArPharazonV: They also sent Gandalf back after he died in his fight with the Balrog.
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: He was the only one still operating and was needed.
VardaValar1: Radagast had tangented off helpiing animals. Saruman had become corrupted by his desire for being a leader rather than advisor, and while studying Sauron's ring lore. He took the Blue Wizards east where they were distracted and wound up leading a couple of cults.
galdorandwe: The Valar added some wind in Aragorn's sails while he was going upstream to Gondor for the Battle...
galdorandwe: back to cooking
Eonwe Valar: It's been a while since I read up on the Blue Wizards, but there were some versions where they did their job. I don't remember which version was "more final" off the top of my head though.
ArPharazonV: Yes, that was in the History. Apparently they might've disrupted the Easterlings so well that their forces coming to the War were greatly decreased.
Eonwe Valar: A wind that pushed Sauron's dark clouds off earlier than Sauron had hoped, to add to Galdor's.
ArPharazonV: I think it was the History. Might've been UT.
VardaValar1: In one story, the Elessar stone was a sign that the Valar had not abandoned Middle-earth.
Eonwe Valar: I think the cults one might've been in UT.
VardaValar1: Aye, Eonwe. UT for the cults.
Eonwe Valar: And aye on the Elessar stone. One story had alot of such treasures horded away in Isengard, not to tangent the main topic.
ArPharazonV: The fate of the Ring, with Bilbo and Frodo being "meant" to obtain the Ring, could've been doing of the Valar.
VardaValar1: Galadriel said, "...surely the Valar are now removed and Middle-earth is far from their thought, and all who cling to it are under a shadow." "It is not so," said Olorin. "Their eyes are not dimmed nor their hearts hardened. In token of which look upon this!" And he held before her the Elessar, and she looked on it and wondered.
VardaValar1: The winds are especially interesting since that was the province of Manwe himself.
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Bah, disconnected. Did I miss anything since Varda's quote on the Elessar?
ArPharazonV: I vaguely recall something about the "luck of the valar"
VardaValar1: A star shone through the mirk of Mordor to give hope, showing the hobbits that they weren't abandoned.
ArPharazonV: VardaValar1: The winds are especially interesting since that was the province of Manwe himself.
ArPharazonV: Nothing more.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
VardaValar1: That was it. : )
VardaValar1: Elrond said the Council of Elrond was definitely called, but not by him. : )
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
ArPharazonV: Hmm, different from the movie, anyway.
ArPharazonV: Therein he did actually call the Council, as was reported to Boromir in Osgiliath.
ArPharazonV: But in the books, yes, they all came together neatly :-) Each for their own reasons, with their own news.
ArPharazonV: Must've been some preparation work the Valar did for that!
VardaValar1: Visions sent to Faramir.
VardaValar1: When he was blocked by Denethor, they may have sent one to Boromir, but he knew the visions well and believed his brother.
VardaValar1: He says they sent him one, and it may have been so.
Eonwe Valar: He said he had a dream, didn't say anyone sent it :}
VardaValar1: Interesting. JRRT was very careful with wording, I'll have to look that up.
VardaValar1: He could have had a dream from hearing his brother's words.
AriehnV: Boromir i think had the same dream as Faramir
VardaValar1: Faramir had the visions many times. Boromir said he had one later.
AriehnV: aye
VardaValar1: But the visions had to come from somewhere. : )
Eonwe Valar: Aye :} Faramir's at least :}
VardaValar1: Olorin/Gandalf was famous for that among Elves. Irmo was the main Vala responsible for such things.
AriehnV: Irmo ? is he the Dreamlord>
VardaValar1: Aye.
ArPharazonV: Aye. Boromir might just have had one based on Faramir's descriptions. Other than the description we don't have a way to tell if it was the same dream, anyway.
VardaValar1: Irmo of Lorien, also called Loren sometimes.
VardaValar1: Lorien
AriehnV: mhh
VardaValar1: *picks the dropped i out of the grass*

[Note given in fairness to Boromir: Quote from Fellowship, book 2, ch. 2 "The Council of Elrond", Boromir's actual words:
"For on the eve of the sudden assault a dream came to my brother in a troubled sleep; and afterwards a like dream came oft to him again, and once to me."
He describes the dream. Since the brothers couldn't understand a lot of the dream references, they asked their father, Denethor, who was "wise in the lore of Gondor". Denethor was close-mouthed and only told them that Imladris was an actual dale in the far north where lived the greatest of lore-masters, Elrond the Halfelven. Faramir was eager to go but, since it was dangerous, Boromir took the journey for himself although "Loth was my father to give me leave". He then had a tough road since many had heard of the place "but few knew where it lay".]

VardaValar1: The timing for all of them was pretty amazing. Elrond could easily see that it was contrived and in a good way.
Eonwe Valar: Come together "in the very nick of time."
AriehnV: "exactly when they mean to " .. err ;-)
VardaValar1: That would be why Legolas would have been one of the Fellowship. Timing was too suspicious.
VardaValar1: hehehe Arien
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: Gloin, already associated with one Ring-bearer earlier, was not as physically able to go, but his son was right there handy.
VardaValar1: So we got Gimli. : )
AriehnV: Gimli travelled with Gloin from Erebor as messenger from King Dain
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: Just like Legolas was a messenger from King Thranduil.
VardaValar1: Suspiciously similar stories.
AriehnV: true enough
VardaValar1: The types of people were interesting too. All were sons of rulers or leaders, except Sam.
AriehnV: was the son of the Lord of Bilbo's Garden
VardaValar1: There you go. ^^
VardaValar1: He was associated with *two* Ring-bearers.
VardaValar1: So were Merry and Pippin, although more so with Frodo.
AriehnV: Sam became one himself for a short while and he felt its corrupting power two although he resisted it miraculously
galdorandwe: From what I recall, Sam was the only Ring Bearer to actually resist. can canyone confirm that?
VardaValar1: Aye, after he joined. He had a very good understanding of what he was getting into, something most others would not.
VardaValar1: Sam actually gave the Ring back to Frodo of his own free will.
VardaValar1: He didn't have it as long, but already felt the pull.
VardaValar1: Bilbo turned over the Ring as an inheritance for Frodo. although it was hard.
Eonwe Valar: Aye, his "plain hobbit sense" helped him though.
AriehnV: I found this act so selfless of him .. he said at the he couldnt let the mission fail and tried to carry it out himself but then as we know "his heart told him" that Frodo was still alive and so he had to be rescued . So that took priority and as Varda just said gave it back to Frodo.
Eonwe Valar: His = Sam's
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: Frodo was *supposed* to hang onto the Ring until its unmaking.
VardaValar1: He did take it for himself, but
VardaValar1: according to the Letters, he knew it would be taken from him by Sauron who was stronger, and intended to both keep it and fulfil his mission by stepping off into the lava.
VardaValar1: Gollum's taking it saved Frodo.
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya!
fladrifv has left the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Menel :-)
Eonwe Valar: Heya Menel :}
AriehnV: aiya Starry Warrior
galdorandwe: Aiya
ArPharazonV: So he wasn't hesitating before throwing in the Ring, but hesitating before he killed himself?
VardaValar1: A bit of both. : )
Menelvagor Valar: short bit of in-between gaming news: I have found and played a bit with Sauron (Annatar) in SW:ToR ^^
galdorandwe: I think the ring's power was strongest at that location and had it's greatest affect on him.
VardaValar1: He didn't want to die either.
VardaValar1: Some Tingilinde guy was in SW:TOR. :-)
VardaValar1: Aye Galdor. Quite right.
Menelvagor Valar: That would be me ^^
VardaValar1: yep : )
AriehnV: "Here we are .. at the end of times"
Menelvagor Valar: That's what I called my female minstrel in LotRO as well :-D
AriehnV: nice name :-)
VardaValar1: That's why it sounded so familiar. : )
Menelvagor Valar: Means twinkling star :-)
Menelvagor Valar: Thought it was fitting enough to represent me :-)
Menelvagor Valar: But, back to the discussion at hand.
Eonwe Valar: Tolkien Topic: In what ways did the Valar assist the Free Peoples during the War of the Ring? When, where, etc.
Eonwe Valar: (from Arien)
Menelvagor Valar: I think we're at the point of Frodo being in Mt. Doom, struggling with the mental weight of the Ring, before (and we shall never know whether he actually would have) tossing it in.
Menelvagor Valar: I suppose you've already handled the wizards?
galdorandwe: I think that was written that way on purpose
Eonwe Valar: We've covered Gandalf, the other wizards, the wind, the star shining above Mordor, Faramir's/Boromir's vision, the calling of the Council of Elrond, Sam, and now discussing Frodo
VardaValar1: (phone)
Eonwe Valar: Or were discussing him.
Menelvagor Valar: There's something during the aftermath, though one could technically claim that with the end of the Ring, the war ended as well.
galdorandwe: well, there was the Battle of Bywater, but perhaps you're right
Menelvagor Valar: Gwaihir and the Eagles, for they were always Manwė's creatures.
Eonwe Valar: I think the book counts the Battle of Bywater as the last battle of the War of the Ring.
VardaValar1: (back)
Menelvagor Valar: Well of course, the book was written by Frodo :-)
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Menelvagor Valar: large and by anyways.
VardaValar1: It was the final end of Saruman
Eonwe Valar: Except the parts written by Bilbo before, and Sam after, hehe :}
Menelvagor Valar: exactly.
VardaValar1: and it went to Elanor after Sam :-)
Menelvagor Valar: but Varda has a good point :-)
Menelvagor Valar: For Rohan and Gondor the war was over, the war came to the Shire a bit late in the form of Saruman, so I'll forgive them that they extended the war a bit ^^\
Menelvagor Valar: regardless though, I am unsure whether one could speak of the Valar aiding the Hobbits there.
VardaValar1: The War of the Ring was not just for Men, although they tended to think that way.
Menelvagor Valar: One could claim the Valar did act at the very end though, when they blew away Saruman's Spirit to the east.
VardaValar1: The war was also going up north in Dale and Lorien and Mirkwood.
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: Also blew away Saruman's fea.  [Note: both Sauron and Saruman's spirit forms were blown away]
Menelvagor Valar: That, to me, was the most visible of any of the Valar's actions.
VardaValar1: A bunch of big eagles sailing in and picking up Sam and Frodo, and up there vs Nazgul show up pretty well too. : )
Menelvagor Valar: yes, but I think that was not so straightforwardly written that it could only be attributed to one thing only.
Menelvagor Valar: not counting the wind of course ^^
VardaValar1: Aye
Eonwe Valar: Now is probably a good time to bang the gavel.
Menelvagor Valar: possibly ^^
Eonwe Valar: *raises gavel into the air*
Eonwe Valar: *bang*
top

Eonwe Valar: After-meeting.
Menelvagor Valar: *quickly shoves a soft padded....* darnit.. too late.
VardaValar1: hehe
Menelvagor Valar: would have loved to hear the sound of the gavel smushing into something soft for a change ^^

Menelvagor Valar: I think I may play an hour or 2 of SW: ToR before getting into my books for that exam I have tomorrow :-D
Eonwe Valar: Your Tingilinde is Republic, right?
VardaValar1: Sauron may be home in about an hour, but I don't know if he'll be gaming.  [Note: silly me, of course he gamed.]
Menelvagor Valar: we'll see, or not :-)
VardaValar1: Do you have an Empire character too?
Menelvagor Valar: Not yet.
Menelvagor Valar: Not sure whether I will make one either.
Menelvagor Valar: Mayhaps I'll make one to check in on whether any peops I know are fighting on the wrong side ^^
VardaValar1: Sauronv is on Empire
VardaValar1: We have both sides.
VardaValar1: Ventrilo can help communication.
Menelvagor Valar: I wrote down the vent info :-)
VardaValar1: If anyone finds a way to make an in-game channel, or they finally include one, let us know.
VardaValar1: Good deal. : ) We use it a lot in LotRO.
Menelvagor Valar: there is an in-game channel :-)
VardaValar1: Like our private friend channels?
Menelvagor Valar: I think so, yes.
VardaValar1: How do you make it?
Menelvagor Valar: I mean, it's a custom channel, so I would assume it is.
VardaValar1: WoW is /join
VardaValar1: LotRO is /joinchannel
Menelvagor Valar: right click on the conversation tab, select "create custom channel" and type in Valar.
VardaValar1: Woot! Thanks
Menelvagor Valar: Haven't tested other ways yet.
Menelvagor Valar: At any rate, it will create the channel, and I suppose if it already exists, it will autojoin that channel.
Menelvagor Valar: I will test if there is a quick command for it with Sauron when I see him again :-)
VardaValar1: Thanks :-)
VardaValar1: Our folks need to go ahead and do that when they're on.

AriehnV: its getting lalte and i am quite sleepy and a wee bit distracted hence my silence but its bed time now for little sunshines or something like that ^^
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well Arien :}
VardaValar1: Good night. It's After-meeting anyway :-)
ArPharazonV: Namarie :-)
AriehnV: Good night and have fun in wow with whatever you do :-) or explore endless horizons
VardaValar1: Namarie
AriehnV: Namarie :-)
AriehnV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Endless horizons are fun, you just never know where to stop exploring.
VardaValar1: :-)
galdorandwe has left the room.
ArPharazonV: saving and sending transcript
