Before-meeting:
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
alwin0 has entered the room.
fladrifv has entered the room.
fladrifv: early
ArPharazonV: bit early, it seems?
alwin0: yes
alwin0 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: My computer says 3:57.
ArPharazonV: is it daylight saving at your place already, Eonwe?
Eonwe Valar: Since I've seen a few clocks update to an hour later already, I'd say yes.
ArPharazonV: Well, that'd explain it.
fladrifv: you mean not 100%?
Eonwe Valar: Well, my cell phone is still saying just before 3pm.
Eonwe Valar: Wikipedia is claiming Daylight Savings Time started today as well.
Eonwe Valar: Restarted my phone, and now my phone agrees :}
ArPharazonV: well, not in Europe, anyway
Eonwe Valar: Well, I know everyone is going to walk in an hour late, but we might as well have the meeting around the proper time anyway :}
Eonwe Valar: I suppose you both are busy elsewhere though :}
Eonwe Valar: This will be a quick meeting anyway :}

Eonwe Valar: Gaming:
Eonwe Valar: WoW:
Eonwe Valar: Lothar:
Eonwe Valar: Sunday Run->
Eonwe Valar: Participants: Eonwë, Bofur, Elwing, Nob, Eowyn
Eonwe Valar: This Sunday we went into Zul'Aman. As we did not have enough for Guild credit, we just went in for personal credit. We made sure to kill the bosses a bit slower this time around, and lo and behold, made it all the way through the instance without any bugging out.
Eonwe Valar: Afterwards, Nob and Bofur had to call it, so Eowyn, Elwing, and Eonwë went into Stratholme for guild credit, clearing out both sides of the instance. After that, we called it a night.
Eonwe Valar: Friday Run->
Eonwe Valar: Participants:Members - Eonwë, Sauron, Varda, Bilbo, Eowyn, ElwingGuild friends - Schlep
Eonwe Valar: Our goals:1.)Complete the Achievments "Zombiefest" and "Amber Void"2.) Take Chromaggus in Blackwing Lair for Bilbo's Hunter.
Eonwe Valar: First we took on Heroic Culling of Stratholme. Unforunately, Zombiefest eluded us, as for some reason a chunk of our zombies did not appear to count as they should have. We did complete "The Culling of Time" for Eowyn, however, and Varda won the drake.
Eonwe Valar: We then went into Heroic Occulus for "Amber Void." This run at least went exactly as we hoped.
ArPharazonV: That's... rather impressive, an attempt at Zombiefest together with the drake.
ArPharazonV: Since Zombiefest requires you to spend like 5-10 minutes on the second boss.
Eonwe Valar: We tried avoiding to kill the zombies in the first area. The intent was to bring what we had from the first area and mix it with what we had in the alley past the Town Hall.
ArPharazonV: yes, that's how it usually works, but most groups wait with killing the second boss until the zombies in the first part respawn
Eonwe Valar: We still had mostly a good chunk, should've at least got close, but for some reason, the counter didn't count some of our zombies.
Eonwe Valar: Yeah, we're probably going to try that next time, but it looked like we'd have enough.
karakedi25 has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: First part only has 80 zombies.
Eonwe Valar: And aye, I knew that's how it's usually done :}
karakedi25: aiya
ArPharazonV: aiya!
Eonwe Valar: Heya Indis :}
Eonwe Valar: Anyway, back to the report.
Eonwe Valar: We then went into Blackwing Lair. Unfortunately, there appears to be a bug such that, when the mind control falls off and Razorgore is not in combat, he auto-kills everyone. As we are just too awesome (:}) to keep him in combat for long, we did not succeed getting past this boss after several tries. We decided to call it quits there and try again later with a fresh perspective. Next time, we'll just have to have less people helping him stay alive :}
Eonwe Valar: At this point, Bilbo and Sauron called it a night. The rest of us went on to complete Razorfen Kraul and Razorfen Downs for guild credit, completing the quests within along the way.
Eonwe Valar: After these runs, we decided to call it a night.

Eonwe Valar: LotRO:
Eonwe Valar: Monday:
Eonwe Valar: The Carn Dum instance was run with Annael (59 warden Annlyn), Hurin (captain Hiurred), Irmo (captain Irmohir), and Miriel (minstrel Mahariel). The Rift was run in a pug with Indis and Pippin. 2.5.5 Deep-way was not quite completed by Gildor (guardian Marrella), Gorlim (catapin Athyn), Indis (lore-master Mereniel), Maedhros (warden Maedhroc), Nimrodel (champion Cynthiajane), and Varda (62 minstrel Tinwetari).
Eonwe Valar: Wednesday:
Eonwe Valar: Anyone see anything after "Wednesday:" ?
ArPharazonV: ..No.
Eonwe Valar: As in between that message and the previous one?
ArPharazonV: Eonwe Valar: Wednesday:Eonwe Valar: Anyone see anything after "Wednesday:" ?

karakedi25: I can report on my visit to PAX East
Eonwe Valar: OK
Eonwe Valar: My message was apparently too long, but it still posted it to my window. Wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting the effort to break it up.
Eonwe Valar: One sec Indis, then I'll give you the floor to do so :}
karakedi25: I decided to splurge on a trip to Boston and visited the Turbine exhibition on Friday, then went to the Turbine party put on for the players and a chance to hobnob with the devs.
karakedi25: WB (which owns Turbine now) had a huge block of space, and LotRO got a good chunk of it. There seemed to be a lot of interest in the game, devs all over the place demoing it... [Note: WB is Warner Brothers]
karakedi25: and systems set up so visitors could try the game out. Furthermore they had a contest going for people to attempt Barrows Downs Survival in groups of 3. Any group that lasted for 10 minutes got put down for a drawing for a life membership.
karakedi25: The guy in charge of that one said almost no one was getting on the list (I did).
karakedi25: But it was popular.
karakedi25: And the party was fun--charades, trivia, and a raffle (from which I won nothing). But I knew all the answers to the LotRO portions of the trivia, which were all taken from the books...
karakedi25: and won 500 Turbine Points.
karakedi25: Food was so-so, but the best part was more opportunity to hob-nob with devs and officials.
karakedi25: I met quite a few, including the co-producers, and even had a chance to give a bit of feedback.
karakedi25: So it was worth the considerable expense to me.
karakedi25: In case you haven't heard, the new update is due on March 21.
karakedi25: That's it, unless there are questions.
Eonwe Valar: None from me. Thanks for the report, and glad to hear you enjoyed yourself :}
Eonwe Valar: I might put that on the Games Site news, since it's gaming news :}

Eonwe Valar: Back to Wednesday Run:
Eonwe Valar: Helegrod: We ran two wings of Helegrod collecting marks as intended, all choosing the same quest for mark-collecting as intended.. Participants: Eomer (captain Erkendan), Galdor (Thongaladh), Indis (lore-master Mereniel), Maedhros (warden Maedhroc), Malva (Tuliwen), Nimrodel (champion Cynthiajane), Pippin (champion Avengelina), Ulmo (burglar Ylmir), and Varda (hunter Fainan). Forges: We ran Forges collecting a medallion, parts of deeds, beating the first boss.
galdorandwe has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Participants: Galdor (hunter Andwe), Maedhros (warden Maedhroc), Nimrodel (hunter Ardisian), Pippin (champion Avengelina), Ulmo (burglar Ylmir), and Varda (62 minstrel Tinwetari). Glinghant: We ran Annuminas' Glinghant wing collecting marks as intended from darkwaters. Participants: Galdor (Thongaladh), Maedhros (warden Maedhroc), Nimrodel (champion Cynthiajane), Pippin (champion Avengelina), and Varda (62 minstrel Tinwetari). Ulmo's Ylmir remained in the group but outside the instance apparently afk.
galdorandwe: Aiya
karakedi25: Aiya!
Eonwe Valar: Heya Galdor :}
karakedi25: It's good to see so much activity.
ArPharazonV: Aiya

Eonwe Valar: Anyone play anything besides LotRO and WoW this week?
ArPharazonV: Starcraft II, somewhat, still more custom maps, I want to continue the campaign but that join custom game button is so alluring!
ArPharazonV: also, for those who know the Starcraft II trailers, might be amused by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJbAT1wzS8U
ArPharazonV: I found it quite well done, with the scene selection and even the lip-movements
ArPharazonV: and that's it from me!
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news before we move to Tolkien? Any new games coming out we should watch for or the like?
ArPharazonV: I found out this week that they're working on a Dungeon Siege III :-)
ArPharazonV: other than that, nothing I know of!
Eonwe Valar: Cool :}
Eonwe Valar: OK, let's move to Tolkien chat.
top

Eonwe Valar: Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: I need to go afk for a sec, so Phar has the gavel till I get back.
Eonwe Valar: The topic is from Galdor.
Eonwe Valar: Who just went afk before Icould call on him to give it :}
Eonwe Valar: At the end of the 3rd age...where where the Dwarf communities? I know of the Iron Hills, Erebor and perhaps Erd Luin....later on the Glittering caves...but were there more? If so where and what is the estimate of the dwarf population total after the war of the ring?
ArPharazonV: Can't have been more than a few generations before the retaking of Moria.
karakedi25: Well, probably after the WotR, dwarves repopulated Khazad-Dum.
ArPharazonV: By Durin the 7th, I believe.
galdorandwe: The last Durin, right?
ArPharazonV: yeah
ArPharazonV: Well, that we know of, of course ;-)
karakedi25: My guess is that like the elves, the dwarves waned after the turn of the age.
ArPharazonV: Or went into seclusion, at least.
galdorandwe: Did they retake Moria? was that what was presumed? It's been a while since i read up on that, hence the question.
ArPharazonV: I assume they had some further fortresses further east. There were 7 clans of course.
ArPharazonV: It was, appendix A, I think.
galdorandwe: OH...please continue Phar
karakedi25: I"ve read fan fiction that addressed that, but I'm not sure if Tolkien wrote about it.
ArPharazonV: Well, appendix A has the story of the retaking of Moria, I'm pretty sure about that.
ArPharazonV: And I think the History of Middle-Earth has parts about the 7 fathers of the dwarves, and them being spread out, with some of their old fortresses in the East not coming into the stories Tolkien wrote about.
ArPharazonV: Bah, don't make me bring all my books downstairs :P
galdorandwe: I'm definitely going to revisit that, Thanks...
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
galdorandwe: Aiya Varda :-)
VardaValar1: Aiya
galdorandwe: What vol. of the Histories Par? I need ot buy all of those. I have the "Sauron Defeated" vol. for the epilogue...but sadly none of the others.
galdorandwe: *Phar
VardaValar1: heh, thought I was early and here's all these people. : )
karakedi25: um..forgot to set your clock?
karakedi25: and Aiya Varda
ArPharazonV: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Sorry, a preliminary search doesn't find me the texts I'm looking for. I'm not sure what volume the information is in. I just know it's in there somewhere.
galdorandwe: That's fine...it will give me an excuse to but all of them :-)
ArPharazonV: Perhaps Varda knows!
VardaValar1: ?
ArPharazonV: Dwarves, Varda.
ArPharazonV: 7 fathers, homes all over Middle-Earth, including some otherwise unmentioned in the east.
ArPharazonV: Any idea where I can find that information? :-)
karakedi25: Doubtless somewhere in HoME, but I can't be more specific about it atm.
ArPharazonV: Aye, that's as far as I got, as well.
Eonwe Valar: Morgoth's Ring and People's of Middle-Earth have alot of fun info on Dwarves, as I recall.
Eonwe Valar: Back, btw.
VardaValar1: Just for a quick question, did you look at Eonwe's article on Dwarves? Tons of citations.
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/articles/d/dwarves/dwarvesE.htm
VardaValar1: Thanks, Eonwe.
galdorandwe: we were looking for the book so I could buy it :-)
VardaValar1: Peoples of Middle-earth Ch 10 is mentioned with that info
galdorandwe: Thanks
ArPharazonV: Hmm. Must have missed that when I glanced over that chapter a few minutes ago.
ArPharazonV: Seemed mostly about the Longbeards, their cooperation with humans, and the use of language.
VardaValar1: Names of the the tribes there
galdorandwe: I knew I could count on all of you for the answers I was looking for :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: So we answered the first one then? :}
ArPharazonV: Looks like. What do we know about the population?
Eonwe Valar: We know it didn't grow quickly in the first place.
Eonwe Valar: Not enough Dwarves married and had kids to support the population in the very long run.
ArPharazonV: True. With dwarf-women less than a third of the population, and far less than that get married.
karakedi25: and then only have few children if more than one
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
karakedi25: kind of a narrow gene pool
Eonwe Valar: If we're done with this topic, Indis has an addendum to her LotRO report she would like to give before we move to Galdor's next topic.
ArPharazonV: Well, they might not have minded. Kid gets born with 8 fingers on his hand? Just means he's got better grip on his axe!
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead, Indis.

PAX continued:
karakedi25: How could I have forgotten? I met one of our Valar friends there: Lycius.
karakedi25: He didn't look at all the way I expected. We had a pleasant talk, and I met some of the real people in his kinship. It was a special treat.
karakedi25: that's all
Eonwe Valar: Cool :}
Eonwe Valar: Meeting someone in person you know from many talks online is indeed special :}
karakedi25: I was hoping to meet more. I did meet Devs that I'd met before at earlier gatherings some years ago.
Eonwe Valar: Cool :}

karakedi25: for those who are interested, I've posted to the text RP.
Eonwe Valar: Yes, read it when you get a chance (I still need to :})
Eonwe Valar: OK Galdor, would you like to give your next topic?
Eonwe Valar: Guess not :}

Eonwe Valar: OK, Galdor's second topic:
Eonwe Valar: What sort of impact did the batteles between Eldamir and Castmir have on the population of the Dunadain apart from the plague? A while back I talked about the kinstrife having an effect on the population, but we never came to a conclusive answer.
karakedi25: it certainly divided it
karakedi25: and for those concerned about 'blood,' it would perhaps have weakened it, as the kinstrife was at least in part about bringing Northerners into the 'family'
VardaValar1: (Galdor is making barbecue, coming to the chat between.)
ArPharazonV: Since it *was* about a bond with the Northerners, I'd guess that they would've given the population rather a boost, though it was not a full assimilation
karakedi25: I guess part of the question is how much was left over after you add some Northerners but subtract all the people killed in the Kin Wars
Eonwe Valar: There's the consideration that Castamir in his retreat weakened the influence of Gondor in the South by taking a key city.
Eonwe Valar: Seems the conversation has died on this topic.
Eonwe Valar: I think this would be a good time to bang the gavel.
Eonwe Valar: *bangs gavel*
top

After-meeting:
Eonwe Valar: Now go read Indis' post to the RP :}
galdorandwe: Aiya everyone...off to do desert with my little girl...thanks for your help with the Dwarves and everything.
karakedi25: take care, Galdor
Eonwe Valar: Have fun Galdor :}
galdorandwe has left the room.
karakedi25: so did you read the RP post?
VardaValar1: I did earlier. Arien is the one who will have to reply.

VardaValar1: The forum does have a sign up for the Monday LotRO instance.
karakedi25: that's right. I was hoping she'd be here tonight.
VardaValar1: Sadly I'm being told people can't find it.
karakedi25: actually I'm the one who said she was unable to find it
Eonwe Valar: http://valarguild.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=raiding&action=display&thread=1040
Eonwe Valar: Direct link.
Eonwe Valar: It's inside the Raids and Quests board, obviously inside the LotRO board.
Eonwe Valar: If others are having trouble, and the issue is finding the proper board, perhaps adding "Dungeons" to the name of the board would help.
AriehnV has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Heya Arien :}
AriehnV: aiya all if anyone is here :-)
karakedi25: Aiya Arien :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: I'm sorry if 3-14-2011 Monday LotRO instance 8pm EDT
VardaValar1: isn't clear.
VardaValar1: So instead of instance it should say Dungeon?
Eonwe Valar: No, not in the thread name.
AriehnV: say rather that aye
ArPharazonV: Sounds clear enough to me, but I'm not a player.
Eonwe Valar: I mean "Dungeons, Raids, and Quests" in opposition to "Raids and Quests," IFF (if and only if) that is the problem.
karakedi25: The title is very clear.
Eonwe Valar: As the board name within the LotRO board.
VardaValar1: Raids and Quests is not clear enough?
karakedi25: Seems clear enough to me
Eonwe Valar: As does to me. I was merely making a suggestion as to why others, if there are others, may not find it clear. If it's clear to all involved, no problem.
VardaValar1: Not sure calling it Dungeons would help.
karakedi25: I wouldn't add that.
Eonwe Valar: Then there's no problem ;}
karakedi25: Would it help at all (ONLY a question) if we said Raids, Quests, and Kin Runs?
karakedi25: (I have no particular investment in that)
VardaValar1: Raids and quests should be kin runs, I thought. :-(
Eonwe Valar: *If* that were the case, why not just call the board "Kin Runs"?
VardaValar1: Aye, maybe so.
karakedi25: *tiptoes very carefully* I like the current title because it does imply that we might want to bring others in from time to time
VardaValar1: k
karakedi25: Or at least doesn't imply that we wouldn't
ArPharazonV: The power of simplicity.. just call it "Runs"? ;-)
karakedi25: Sounds like malfunctioning digestion
VardaValar1: New post to you in the rp, Arien. :-)
VardaValar1: Namarie for now.
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
karakedi25: Namarie, Phar
ArPharazonV: I was talking to Varda :-)
karakedi25: ah mt then
VardaValar1 has left the room.

karakedi25: Arien, think you can answer my post? If you don't want to go into detail, you can keep your response very general.
AriehnV: just done Post
karakedi25: nice post
AriehnV: hehe i like that Cala lol .. malfunction digestion, grins
ArPharazonV: Bah, Indis' mind, not mine!
AriehnV: i d call it actually "Kin Events" and would make subboards , "Instances and Raids", "Book quests" and "Other Help needed " or something
AriehnV: along those lines
Eonwe Valar: Can't make any deeper sub-fora.
Eonwe Valar: And really, no further are needed.
Eonwe Valar: Not on that topic, anyway.
AriehnV: all right then
karakedi25: my own preference would be to make a link to it on the main page, so it's unmistakeably easy to find.
ArPharazonV: "Gimli smiled a bit melancholy as he remembered the training sessions with Cori and Gimli"
ArPharazonV: You sure that first Gimli should be so?
karakedi25: so what?
ArPharazonV: Gimli
karakedi25: source of melancholy?
karakedi25: Frali is nostalgic
ArPharazonV: Exactly, so that first Gimli should be Frali, no?
AriehnV: ok aye just noticed myself and edited
AriehnV: there was another mistake as well , half of a sentence forgotten i think
ArPharazonV: at the end?
AriehnV: near the end aye
AriehnV: ok now reload the page
AriehnV: If you wonder about Nari and Cori they are mentioned in "Shadow Search", the first story i wrote
AriehnV: anyone still here?
Eonwe Valar: I'm semi-here.
ArPharazonV: semi, playing a custom game in SCII
karakedi25: sort of
Eonwe Valar: I had some stuff to attend to, and shortly will be in WoW, but my AIM will be up probably for several more hours.
fladrifv has left the room.
AriehnV: i am playing the demo atm hehe
AriehnV: of sc II
Eonwe Valar: Cool :}
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
ArPharazonV: Eck, my internet vanished just now
ArPharazonV: what did I miss? Last I got was Eonwe Valar: Cool :}
ArPharazonV: And if there's anything, I'm sure Eonwe will send in a transcript :-)
ArPharazonV: Hello? Am I here?
ArPharazonV: Well this isn't good. Looks like I'll need to reboot my pc.
[reboot]
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
ArPharazonV: Am I back *now*?
Eonwe Valar: You're back :}
ArPharazonV: So you didn't get my earlier messages?
Eonwe Valar: I've been switching between 3 different screens, with stuff going on in each.
Eonwe Valar: I don'
AriehnV: what message?
Eonwe Valar: t have the sound on for AIm when I get new messages.
Eonwe Valar: Thought it was on for IM's, guess not.
ArPharazonV: The one where I said I lost my internet, and when nobody responded, I thought I was bugged and rebooted my pc
AriehnV: ah your here now :-)
Eonwe Valar: You missed nothing since my "cool"
Eonwe Valar: Not that it helps now :}
ArPharazonV: So I *was* bugged?
Eonwe Valar: Here's the transscript up to me response:
Eonwe Valar: Eonwe Valar (7:12:47 PM): Cool :}ArPharazonV has left the room. 7:16 pmArPharazonV has entered the room. 7:17 pm ArPharazonV (7:17:52 PM): Eck, my internet vanished just now
AriehnV: i just said that i am trying the free demo of SC II that we could get from the launch page of wow
Eonwe Valar: ArPharazonV (7:18:03 PM): what did I miss? Last I got was Eonwe Valar: Cool :}ArPharazonV (7:18:15 PM): And if there's anything, I'm sure Eonwe will send in a transcript :-) ArPharazonV (7:20:52 PM): Hello? Am I here? ArPharazonV (7:24:08 PM): Well this isn't good. Looks like I'll need to reboot my pc.ArPharazonV has left the room. 7:24 pmArPharazonV has entered the room. 7:27 pm ArPharazonV (7:27:50 PM): Am I back *now*? Eonwe Valar (7:28:42 PM): You're back :}
ArPharazonV: Allright, so I wasn't bugged at all. Too bad you didn't respond in time.
Eonwe Valar: Sorry, hehe.
AriehnV: guess i was kind of busy at the time ^^
AriehnV: i like the graphics to be honest a lot better than Brood War and easier to control
ArPharazonV: Well, yes, of course, there was a 12 year difference :-)
AriehnV: hehe
ArPharazonV: Most complaints about SCII is the story, but the demo is really not enough to be able to comment about that.
AriehnV: dont mind the story at all i like rayner so far and even tychus has a bit of a roguish charm
AriehnV: i ve finished the demo successfully lol
ArPharazonV: Just Mar Sara, right? 3 missions or so?
AriehnV: aye
AriehnV: i played on the easiest level as welll
ArPharazonV: Halfway it really starts to get bad... diminishing Kerrigan and Zeratul, the plethora of cliche one-liners, a variety of plotholes and character inconsistencies, and some debatable retcons
ArPharazonV: But of course, there's plenty of people who like all that stuff as well :-)
AriehnV: ah well , dont know the game or the story good enough for that hehe , but i had trouble with brood wars , couldnt hold out there
AriehnV: on the terran thingy
AriehnV: campaign ^^
AriehnV: bed time for me i guess anyway :-) i shall see you tomorrow .. btw Helm is preparing to take his Druid for us to Argent Dawn but he wants to get some pvp gear first .. not much surprise there hehe
ArPharazonV: ah, great :-)
AriehnV: Namarie for now :-)
AriehnV has left the room.
karakedi25: namarie
karakedi25 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: saving and sending
ArPharazonV: well, what's left of this
