fladrifv: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: Heya.
ArPharazonV: Aiya
AriehnV: Aiya all arrivals :-)

Eonwe Valar: Elen Sila Lumenn Omentielvo!
Eonwe Valar: Membership:
Eonwe Valar: Tomorrow is the Valar Guild's 13th Anniversary.
ArPharazonV: Congratulations :-)
VardaValar1: Huzzah!
ArPharazonV: Hmm, that makes it my 7th, I think?
ArPharazonV: Anyway, I'm assuming we're keeping the chatroom alive again then :0
ArPharazonV: *:-)
Eonwe Valar: Celebrations will commence in LotRO and WoW. In WoW we usually shoot off fireworks in each of the capital cities in celebration.
VardaValar1: Aye, the traditional AIM chat marathon, Phar!
Eonwe Valar: And aye, the week-long chatroom marathon also begins today and goes through next week's meeting.
VardaValar1: We will be doing that in LotRO as wel, at the usually scheduled Monday instance time.
Eonwe Valar: This week is also the week to wrap up anniversary contributions and send them in to Varda :}
VardaValar1: Tolkien Site goodies, he means. Email Varda. : )
Eonwe Valar: Any other Anniversary news, Varda?
VardaValar1: I'm trying to start a thread on the Forum now for the 13th Anniversary
VardaValar1: so anyone can say yay, hi, or contribute as they like.
VardaValar1: Anyone may also email a happy anniversary to be put on the News page.
karakedi25: sounds nice :-)
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: We also have a new members this week: Mim.
Eonwe Valar: *new member, singular
ArPharazonV: Hurray for the petty dwarf!
karakedi25: yes, he even said we might find him 'skulking' in Middle earth (on the forum)
VardaValar1: He's in LotRO riight now
VardaValar1: Mim just went in an instance, but hopes to be in AIM in a bit.
Eonwe Valar: Is there any other membership news?
galdorandwe has entered the room.
galdorandwe: Aiya.
VardaValar1: Hail!
Eonwe Valar: Heya Galdor
VardaValar1: The Forum thread for the anniversary is now online under Community General. Feel free to type!
karakedi25: Aiya Galdor :-)
galdorandwe: Just finished my Deep Worm deed in Moria...Valour is not at 10...woo hoo.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Varda :}
Eonwe Valar: It's *not* at 10, or *now* at 10? :}
karakedi25: excellent work, Galdor. Those worms are a continuing nuisance and must be kept down!
karakedi25: (I assumed now)
galdorandwe: Finally at 10 :-)
Eonwe Valar: Congrats :}
Eonwe Valar: I couldn't tell which, "Not" might've denoted a bit of sarcasm in that "woo hoo" :}
ArPharazonV: grats :-)
karakedi25: for non-lotro players, 10 is max on traits
ArPharazonV: there's a maximum on an attribute? pff
galdorandwe: Thanks. I'm sauteeing veggie as I type here...making Chicken and Tortolini soup.
VardaValar1: Post modified with info on celebrations. More coming
Eonwe Valar: Ok, if there's no more membership news, let's move on to Web News:
karakedi25: sounds yummy
VardaValar1: 10 is the current max on traits, overkill is allowed, good in case it goes up later.
AriehnV: sounds nice , Galdor and grats
VardaValar1: Sauron-(Valar)'s birthday was on the 27th. :-)
Eonwe Valar: Happy Birthday to Sauron :}
karakedi25: and may he have many happy returns in the Void ;-)
AriehnV: Beppy Hirthday to Sauron - Valar :-)
VardaValar1: hehehe
top

Eonwe Valar: Web news:
karakedi25: we
karakedi25: oops
ArPharazonV: happy birthday dark one
galdorandwe: Happy Birthday, Sauron.
Eonwe Valar: Games Site Mass-Update ended and was completed September 30th/October 1st.
Eonwe Valar: Everyone's gamign info that was sent in by then is now up on the Games Site.
Eonwe Valar: Please check it and make sure it's correct.
Eonwe Valar: For those interested, LotRO is quite safely our highest game played with 50 people admitting to playing.
Eonwe Valar: World of Warcraft comes in second at 14.
ArPharazonV: considering that's where you get the new recruits these days, hardly surprising :0
ArPharazonV: *:D
karakedi25: admitting? It's a shameful addiction? (resembles that remark)
VardaValar1: The main recruiters are in LotRO, aye.
Eonwe Valar: Admitting, as in either they told me they play it or I can find their name on the kinship roster as coming in recently enough to consider it a current game.
Eonwe Valar: If neither of those are the case, I can't *prove* they play a game, hehe :}
VardaValar1: How recent would that be?
VardaValar1: (resembles it too.)
karakedi25: not a
karakedi25: mt
Eonwe Valar: *Recent would be 90 days or roughly 3 months, whichever the roster in a particular game will show.
VardaValar1: Thanks.
VardaValar1: Oh another item
Eonwe Valar: If you don't have gaming info on the Games Site, or something in your info is incorrect, please let me know asap.
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead Varda.
VardaValar1: Anyone answering the GSMU has been listed as confirmed as a Full Member for 2011.
VardaValar1: It shows on the Membership page.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Varda :}
Eonwe Valar: And aye, that is another perk of answering the Games Site Mass-Update e-mail: it counts as contact :}
VardaValar1: The year 2020 has not actually arrived yet. Correction made to the News page.
ArPharazonV: but did those of us who decided on life-membership really still need the confirmation? ;-)
VardaValar1: Nope. :-)
VardaValar1: You got it free for nothing! ;-)
ArPharazonV: hehe
top

Eonwe Valar: OK, time to move to Gaming:
Eonwe Valar: WoW:
AriehnV: hm actually its another ten years until then if we survive 2013 .. grin
ArPharazonV: Eh, december 2012 is the greater threat.
Eonwe Valar: It's looking real good for the 4.0.1 patch coming out this Tuesday or Next Tuesday. Be warned.
ArPharazonV: Yes! New talents!
AriehnV: arr yes thats it
ArPharazonV: and... stuff
AriehnV: nice nice
Eonwe Valar: And the end of emblems. It's all being converted to Justice Points and gold. So, if you're really close to an emblem threhold at which you get an achiement, like I am, you might want to push for those last few emblems real soon.
Eonwe Valar: *threhold = threshold
AriehnV: i ve got one half of the patch already downloaded .. does that mean another 21 gigs?
ArPharazonV: It's sad. I've got so many emblems saved up, I wanna keep em and roll in em.
Eonwe Valar: I need about 80 more to reach 1000.
ArPharazonV: I did some counting this week. 3400 stone keeper shards, 1400 emblems of triumph, over 550 emblems of frost, 800 badges of justice and some hundred of everything else as well
ArPharazonV: I should get a lot of gold and justice points this week, but it looked so nice to have a mountain of emblems.
AriehnV: bah turned my sourly grinded frosties into a nice belt on my pali but got lots of Triumphs
Eonwe Valar: Aye, and anything about the softcap of 4000 points for both the PvE and PvP points systems will be converted to gold in patch 4.0.3, soo...
ArPharazonV: ....even more gold?
ArPharazonV: I'm gonna be rich at the start of Cataclysm.
Eonwe Valar: make sure that if you're above that softcap and you want to trade them in for something besides gold, that you do so before the 4.0.3 patch.
AriehnV: what do u mean actually? how many do u need?
Eonwe Valar: Hmm?
AriehnV: 4000 emblems of frost or more?
Eonwe Valar: nonono.
Eonwe Valar: The new PvE and PvP points systems will at first have a softcap of 4000 when the Emblems are converted.
Eonwe Valar: By "softcap" this means you *can* have more, but you can't *get* more until you've used below the cap.
AriehnV: right :-) thanks for explaining
ArPharazonV: 4000 frost emblems? would be quite a feat, I doubt I've gone over a thousand and I've done a *lot* of raiding and daily heroiccing.
Eonwe Valar: In 4.0.3, that 4000 limit will become a "hardcap" meaning you can't have any more than that, and if you don't use it, you're wasting your chance to get more when you're doing stuff that would reward it.
karakedi25: hehe, heroiccing sounds like a case of the hiccups!
ArPharazonV: just doing heroic instances :-)
Eonwe Valar: Anything above the hardcap will be converted into gold.
ArPharazonV: so if you're at 4000, and you kill bosses, you only get extra gold?
Eonwe Valar: At the time of the 4.0.3 launch.
ArPharazonV: after the patch?
Eonwe Valar: Only the extra gold that you would normally get, from my understanding. Justice Points in the reward won't automatically convert to more gold as I understand it.
ArPharazonV: Ah. So you just get nothing for them.
Eonwe Valar: Nothing for the Justice Points, aye.
ArPharazonV: 's what I meant, yes
Eonwe Valar: So you might as well trade them in for either gear or primordial saronites, whichever you want more, if you find yourself over the softcap in 4.0.1.
ArPharazonV: I wonder how big the gold conversion is. Might as well buy those saronites to sell them instead of letting the points convert to gold.
karakedi25: just
karakedi25: another mt, sorry
Eonwe Valar: mmo champion has the conversion ratios and a calculator, if you want a bit of help.
ArPharazonV: Will take a look, thanks.
Eonwe Valar: MP.
Eonwe Valar: Any other questions about the 4.0.1 patch?
Manticore Falco has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Nob :-)
Manticore Falco: Hallo? Nob here.
karakedi25: hey!!!
Eonwe Valar: Heya Nob :} Welcoem to the meeting :}
AriehnV: Hey and welcome :-)
VardaValar1: Eonwe, about WoW and the anniversary
VardaValar1: Is a time set for tomorrow to do fireworks?
ArPharazonV: Ainuyaxe, I'm coming to a total of 6700 gold and 22000 justice points.
Manticore Falco: ...
Eonwe Valar: Be warned Brewfest is ending soon as well for WoW. 2 weeks until the one of the two best-themed events: Hallow's Eve.
ArPharazonV: Aiya Nob!
Manticore Falco: 22 *thousand*, jeez. Isn't soft cap like 4000?
Eonwe Valar: Aye :}
ArPharazonV: yes
ArPharazonV: I rounded down to 1400 triumph and 550 frost (have a bit above for both of them)
Eonwe Valar: I think I come in somewhere just over the soft cap. Depending on what armor penetration turns into, I at least will have a cloak I *could* buy.
ArPharazonV: and that gave me 22581 justice points
ArPharazonV: "Justice Points accrued above the soft cap of 4,000 will be converted to gold at a rate of 47.5 silver per point (down from 2 gold per point) when patch 4.0.3 goes live."
ArPharazonV: So that is.. 9000 more gold.
ArPharazonV: *blinks*
Eonwe Valar: Lothar: Anniversary celebration tomorrow.
Eonwe Valar: Let's shoot for (no pun intended) about 6pm. How's that sound to those how can get on Lothar?
VardaValar1: Time zone?
Eonwe Valar: *those who
Eonwe Valar: 7pm Eastern, 6 Central. Every time I've tried to use VST, people come in as if I were talking Central time.
VardaValar1: (Most of the WoW group is on Central Time)
VardaValar1: So that's one hour and then we have to jump to LotRO.
Manticore Falco: 6pm central should be fine. I'll probably be locked down by the laundry then anyway. ;_)
VardaValar1: hehe
AriehnV: that is midnight here?
AriehnV: or 11?
VardaValar1: Right now the time is 6pm EDT. What time is it for you now, Arien?
AriehnV: 23.07 now
Eonwe Valar: What we do is go around to each capital city and shoot off some fireworks, shout happy annivesary, take some screenshots fo the Lothar Events page, and then everyone is free to go about their business if they so wish.
ArPharazonV: midnight here
ArPharazonV: so that'd be 1am?
VardaValar1: Sorry, 18:07 EDT right now, to give you a yardstick.
VardaValar1: er, way to compare measurements.
AriehnV: well if its set for 6.00 edt tomorrow that would be now in 24 hours
Eonwe Valar: If I thought we'd have both the group size and the gear for it, I'd say after the fireworks, we could see how far we can get into ICC just for the heck of it, just to do something we haven't done as a guild, but I figure we won't have the gear collectively even if we have the numbers.
AriehnV: correct?
VardaValar1: Aye
ArPharazonV: it's 7 edt tomorrow, though, isn't it?
VardaValar1: But you're not in WoW Lothar, Arien. : )
Manticore Falco: I like that idea Eonwe, though I wish I could run it on my Warrior instead of my DK. >.>
VardaValar1: It's set for one hour after that, Arien, for EDT.
AriehnV: sigh if i were i d have gotten somewhere raiding by now :-\
Eonwe Valar: Aye, 7 EDT -> VDT (V for Valar, since the US Eastern time zone is the one we typically go by), and it's in Lothar.
VardaValar1: Arien is in LotRO Landroval server and is welcome there for the 8pm EDT firework run. : )
AriehnV: i ll try i am on misty crap shift on tuesday so maybe :-)
ArPharazonV: The server has a standard timeframe, though, doesn't it? a little clock that says realm time?
Eonwe Valar: I'd like to encourage all possible to be in the AIM channel as well, so even if we're not together in game, we're together in AIM :}
VardaValar1: Aye! With AIM we can also try to keep coordinated. : )
Manticore Falco: ...why did I just take a baldric off this deserter chick I killed? That's just...disturbing. >.>
VardaValar1: It's just a set of belts to hold weapons. Maybe you needed it.
Eonwe Valar: What else would she hang her sword on?
Manticore Falco: Right, was thinking hauberk, of course. Blegh, didn't get up that long ago. >.>
Eonwe Valar: A cloak wouldn't work that great :}
ArPharazonV: Ah, so that's what the Blackadder character is named after?
karakedi25: what did you think it was?
VardaValar1: A greatsword would normally be hung on a horse or cart.

Eonwe Valar: If we have the plans for WoW cemented, let's move on to LotRO.
VardaValar1: *removes trowel*
Manticore Falco: Fireworks and a raid on Hel? *innocent*
Eonwe Valar: Varda's floor for LotRO :}
VardaValar1: LotRO: 8pm EDT Fireworks run on four main cities.
VardaValar1: I have some fireworks stashed for this run from festivals, but not enough for everyone, most likely.
VardaValar1: Feel free to use general effects, fervour, circles of light, whatever looks cool.
VardaValar1: Wear your fancy duds on your main character.
VardaValar1: We will ask for transportation for the group from hunters and captains and cheap rent-horses.
VardaValar1: Guild-friends and family are welcome to join in.
VardaValar1: Those already gathered might make campfires, music, tell short poems or stories while waiting.
VardaValar1: If all goes quickly, we may have time for an instance, aye. And maybe an unusual number of people for more than one thing.
VardaValar1: If anyone knows where to buy fireworks from a LotRO vendor, please post it in the forum under Community General in the 13th Anniversary thread, and let me know. : )
VardaValar1: Any other suggestions than just instances? : )
VardaValar1: If not, the floor goes back to Eonwe.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Varda.
Eonwe Valar: There's always the option of Tolkien trivia... :}
VardaValar1: Aye : )
VardaValar1: That would be nice to be doing all the way through, probably in the friend channel so all can do it.
VardaValar1: Not all of our members and friends are actually in the kin for kin chat.
VardaValar1: It would be open book Tolkien trivia. Off the top of our heads is faster and will probably beat people looking it up.
karakedi25: though not always as exact
Eonwe Valar: Ok, I now open the floor to any other gaming news, and I encourage everyone present to whisper me a Tolkien topic.
VardaValar1: food and drink is welcome too.
AriehnV: btw as you might have guessed i ve got a shiny new screen and really enjoy gaming with these totally *new* colours
Eonwe Valar: :} Congrats :}
Manticore Falco: Nice!
AriehnV: it makes the heck of a difference :-)
VardaValar1: Huzzah!
VardaValar1: Feel free to exchange mathoms, pie, ale, etc.

ArPharazonV: Hwell, just like last week, I did one SCII mission (Cutthroat) and a Guildwars mission this weekend :-) Things are rolling along nicely. I also dabbled some more into the flashgame database of physicsgames . net, for some nice physics based action :-)
ArPharazonV: http://www.physicsgames.net/ if you want the link
ArPharazonV: ..and that's my gaming news!
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Phar.
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news?
Manticore Falco: Sorry, trying not to run into Shadows of the Eye while running this daily. >.>
Eonwe Valar: hehe
VardaValar1: Sauron and Bilbo are very into SC2 missions.
Manticore Falco: I think I've completed the third mission in SC2. >.>
ArPharazonV: I'm at 15 now or so. Have been taking it slow, making sure to get all the normal achievements and feats along the way.
Eonwe Valar: We could always use some Tolkien-related SC2 maps made by guild members for tournaments *cough*
ArPharazonV: And yes, I know it's still slow.
Eonwe Valar: Eh, go at your own pace, Phar. No point in rushing through.
Eonwe Valar: Besides, you've been through once already :}
VardaValar1: It's good on story.
ArPharazonV: SC2? no, I haven't, though I'm well acquainted with the story
Eonwe Valar: Really? I was under the impression you'd finished the campaign.
Manticore Falco: brb
ArPharazonV: Oh no. But I've spent so much time on the forum and I've already seen all the cinematics.. I know more about the campaign than some people who've completed it :-)
Eonwe Valar: hehe.
Eonwe Valar: Ok, if there's no more Gaming News, it's time for Tolkien.
top

Eonwe Valar: Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: A quick mention: I've nearly finished my research for the general article on Elves, and so having enough information to act on, I've made a post to the RP. Any RP perticipants who haven't yet should go take a look. We can discuss the RP later. For right now, we have a Tolkien topic.
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead, Varda.
VardaValar1: ok
VardaValar1: Since this is the anniversary of the Valar Guild,
VardaValar1: who were the Valar? What were they trying to accomplish (in the books)?
VardaValar1: (Anyone can speak. Free chat here.)
ArPharazonV: Well, they were the first creations of Illuvatar, and made the world under his guidance through song, before descending to it and guiding along their creation.
ArPharazonV: Note how Melkor can still fall under this definition :-)
karakedi25: or at least among the first creations, as that would also include the other Ainur
ArPharazonV: true
Eonwe Valar: Aye, the Ainur were the offspring of Iluvatar's thought.
VardaValar1: There were Ainur. Of them some were Valar. Of those, some were Aratar.
karakedi25: the Valar were the most powerful of those who came to Arda
Eonwe Valar: They came into Ea because when Eru showed them what their music had created, they wanted to be in it and to bring it to fruition.
Manticore Falco: I'm afraid that I have to bounce - tis getting a bit later here and I really should shower. >.> (not that late for me, though, I only got up about an hour and a half ago or so).
Manticore Falco: Later all!
karakedi25: Not looking this up, but weren't there 10 Valar and 8 Valier?
Eonwe Valar: Take care Nob.
karakedi25: See you Nob :-)
Manticore Falco: Likewise.
ArPharazonV: Namarie :-)
Eonwe Valar: Let's name the Valar and Valier and find out :}
Manticore Falco has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Melkor, Manwė, Ulmo, Aulė, Namo, Irmo, Tulkas, Oromė...
karakedi25: Manwe, Varda. Ulmo, Aule, Yavanna, Namo, Vaire...
VardaValar1: "the Valar drew unto them many companions, some less, some well nigh as great as themselves, and they labored together in the ordering of the Earth and the curbing of its tumults."
karakedi25: ok you're faster than I am
ArPharazonV: Varda, Yavanna, Vaire, ehrm.. dang, it has been a while, hasn't it
karakedi25: Irmo, Este, Orome, Tulkas...
Eonwe Valar: You were tryign to name off the Valar as a group. I was dividing them into Valar and Valier :}
karakedi25: I was naming them in mated pairs
karakedi25: Vanna
Eonwe Valar: Varda, Yavanna, Este, Nienna, Vairė, Vana..
ArPharazonV: right, should've remembered Nienna
karakedi25: ack, forgot to put her in
Eonwe Valar: Actually, I think there's 7 and 7, when you rule out Melkor. That means I'm missing one in my list.
karakedi25: Ulmo and Tulkas? weren't mated, nor was Nienna
Eonwe Valar: Tulkas had a wife.
karakedi25: or was it Orome then
karakedi25: she would have been peeved at all the time he spent hunting, so just as well
VardaValar1: of the Ainur, "the Great among these spirits the Elves name the Valar, the Powers of Arda, and Men have often called them gods. The Lords of the Valar are seven; and the Valier, the Queens of the Valar, are seven also."
VardaValar1: Tulkas took a wife in Valinor.
karakedi25: Vana, right?
ArPharazonV: wasn't that Vana?
VardaValar1: Ulmo was not married.
fladrifv: *opens an eye*
Eonwe Valar: Nessa
Eonwe Valar: Was the one I missed.
VardaValar1: The Lords of the Valar in order are: Manwe, Ulmo, Aule, Orome, Mandos, Lorien/Irmo, and Tulkas.
ArPharazonV: air, water, earth... hmm, this is becoming rather captain planet, isn't it
karakedi25: Nessa and Vana seem like afterthoughts. Apparently they danced and were beautiful, but as far as I remember, noting much else.
VardaValar1: The queens were Varda, Yavanna, Nienna, Este, Vaire, Vana, and Nessa.
ArPharazonV: Orome of forests and hunting, Mandos the prophet and keeper of the dead... Lorien was... dreams, right?
VardaValar1: "Melkor is counted no longer among the Valar, and his name is not spoken upon Earth."
karakedi25: yes, Ar
VardaValar1: Lorien: dreams, visions, passion.
fladrifv: melkor and loke go hand in hand both expelled from the universe :-)
VardaValar1: Didn't Loki have the fun of hanging around sometimes causing earthquakes when his wife had to move the bucket that was catching the drips headed his way?
fladrifv: interesting comment need to check that varda
VardaValar1: Nessa: sister of Orome. Her special animals are the deer, although she is fleeter than they. She delights in dancing. She married Tulkas.
VardaValar1 has left the room.
AriehnV: eerk misclicked
Eonwe Valar: Uh oh.
ArPharazonV: she dropped off of AIM alltogether
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
ArPharazonV: any of you seeing her ingame or something?
AriehnV: aye she did
karakedi25: she was in game and said she had to leave
ArPharazonV: Hmm. Rather sudden. Hope nothing's wrong.
Eonwe Valar: I'm sure everything's fine.
karakedi25: she said she was leaving for a while, so it should be ok--sounds as if she's planning to come back
ArPharazonV: she just got back online
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: And there she is :}
ArPharazonV: But I mean the departure from the chatroom was rather sudden.
VardaValar1: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiyata
VardaValar1: AIM went down
ArPharazonV: aha
VardaValar1: Something odd was going on, so I shut the computer off.
VardaValar1: Now running virus checks.
ArPharazonV: hmhm
ArPharazonV: Anyway, you said Nessa was Orome's sister.
VardaValar1: Fangorn's computer is in the shop with a strange virus. Being careful
ArPharazonV: I also remember Manwe and Melkor being brothers, as well as Lorien and Mandos.
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
VardaValar1: Valaquenta is the reference.
ArPharazonV: But these family relations were abandoned, right?
VardaValar1: Nope.
ArPharazonV: Or was it just the possibility of children that was?
Eonwe Valar: No, only the Children of the Valar.
VardaValar1: Those were in the Sil.
VardaValar1: Right.
VardaValar1: No children.
ArPharazonV: Hmhm.
VardaValar1: Melkor and Manwe were brothers in the mind of Eru. Not by blood.
VardaValar1: Same with the Feanturi, Namo/Mandos and Irmo/Lorien.
Eonwe Valar: Fionwė, son of Manwė and Varda -> Eonwė, herald and banner-bearerof Manwė; Ilmarė wetn from their daughter to handmaid of Varda.
karakedi25: they didn't have parents in the usual way
VardaValar1: Aye, what Eonwe said.
Eonwe Valar: Brotherhood by blood is a bit hard to have when your relation is in spirit, hehe.
VardaValar1: :-) Valar put on bodies as raiment. Yavanna could be a woman or a great tree.
Eonwe Valar: Aye :}
karakedi25: or anything else she chose to look like
VardaValar1: Vana, the Ever-Young. She is the wife of Orome and younger sister of Yavanna. Flowers spring up as she passes and open if she glances at them. Birds sing at her coming.
VardaValar1: Might say Vana was like spriing-time, Valie of flowering plants. This is my interpretation. The above was from the Valaquenta, not word for word.
VardaValar1: Nessa was more of the deer and their fleetness, those things that Orome her brother hunted.
VardaValar1: The lords and queens of the Valar were the Aratar, but they were not *all* of the Valar.
VardaValar1: They are the ones we know best though. : )
VardaValar1: They surpass all other Valar in majesty, beyond compare.
karakedi25: Aratar--an interesting word. Noble fathers?
VardaValar1: close
VardaValar1: The Exalted.
Eonwe Valar: "Among them Nine were of chief power and reverence; but one is removed from their number, and Eight remain, the Aratar, the High Ones, of Arda:
VardaValar1: ar(a) High, noble, royal (Sil index)
Eonwe Valar: Manwė and Varda, Ulmo, Yavanna and Aulė, Mandos, Nienna, and Oromė. Thought Manwė is their King and holds their allegiance under Eru, in majesty they are peers, surpassing beyond compare all others, whether of the Valar and the Maiar, or of any other order that Iluvatar has sent into Ea."
VardaValar1: tar High. Tara lofty
VardaValar1: High of the high.
VardaValar1: The Valar were sub-creators under Eru, the Creator.
VardaValar1: They sang up creation according to their special abilities, and the Maiar helped the Valar with whose theme they felt an empathy.
galdorandwe has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: "Arat" being an extended stem from "Ar(a)" according to the Appendix of the Sil.
VardaValar1: So in the Valar Guild, all of us are expected to be sub-creators. : )
AriehnV: *suddenly flares with brightness*
VardaValar1: Like that. : )
Eonwe Valar: :}
AriehnV: oooh its a nice thought indeed and .. in a way we ARE all creators .. of artlcles , some of programmes , stories and quizzes
Eonwe Valar: Aye, like the Valar, we each have our own interests and have the ability to expand upon them.
VardaValar1: even of branches of gamers, and those things that are inside of gaming. : )
AriehnV: :-)
VardaValar1: Fladrif with his amazing creations in Second Life. I hope someday he shows screenshots!
VardaValar1: This is a literate group, full of creativity of a great many kinds.
AriehnV: and his website actually , his visional artworks .. i forgot the link but i am sure we have it somehere
Eonwe Valar: And like the Valar, who would before the Ainulidallė sometimes sing in pairs, we can join together in unison to improve those things in which our interests are shared.
VardaValar1: He's linked on our site. Try the Membership page
VardaValar1: Aye! We group up in duos and much larger numbers according to the project, and sing them into existence for their time.
VardaValar1: Some is obvious like our Supreme Master Kindred crafting in LotRO. :-) We have a lot who like to craft.
karakedi25: we also sing the destruction of the spawn of Morgoth when we group for instances
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: ".. they sang only each alone, or but a few together..." Given we don't know the total number of the Ainur, we don't know what "but a few" would be for them :}
VardaValar1: Just that thousand on the left of the x y z axis...
Eonwe Valar: would that be + or - w? :}
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Grouping together for whatever reason is a form of creation.
ArPharazonV: Oh yes. There's no idea how many Ainur there actually were, right? Thousands? Millions?
VardaValar1: Such as coming here. : )
VardaValar1: Right.
ArPharazonV: Spirits everywhere you look.
karakedi25: making something new where before there were only individuals
VardaValar1: Aye
Eonwe Valar: I think we're winding down on the chat. Any last comments on the topic before I bang the gavel?
Eonwe Valar: Like creating is cool? :}
ArPharazonV: creating is awsome *builds more boats*
Eonwe Valar: I don't think we let any water into the Forgotten Caves, Phar :}
VardaValar1: If he asks for it, we could send some his way. Could be big caves, I forget. ;-)
Eonwe Valar: I guess we should've brought the mapmaking Ainu with us on our way to Ea? :}
VardaValar1: hmm, how big are those boats, Phar? Oriental paper boats with candles maybe?
Eonwe Valar: Seems we've got Aiunr for creating water, elements, wind, song, dreams, prophecy, and Ulmo's horns, but we left cartography to the Elves :}
VardaValar1: We have the whole thing in mind. Unfortunately mountains turn to valleys and vice versa. Maps are always changing!
ArPharazonV: I was actually referring to the ship-building before the invasion ;-)
ArPharazonV: But paper boats will be fine. Not sure I can get the candles down here.
Eonwe Valar: You can't travel back in time! :}
VardaValar1: We do when we talk. :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Ok, I think it's time :} *raises gavel high into the air*
karakedi25: *ducks*
Eonwe Valar: *taps the gavel down*
top

After-meeting:
ArPharazonV: *waits for the bang*
ArPharazonV: no bang?
karakedi25: BANG!
ArPharazonV: *jumps*
VardaValar1: No ka-boom? Wait, what are those growing cracks in the ground?
Eonwe Valar: Let the Week-long 13th Anniversary AIM chat Marathorn begin!
karakedi25: hurray!
VardaValar1: Huzzah!
ArPharazonV: *cheer*
Eonwe Valar: *Buffet tables appear*
Eonwe Valar: *Drink stations appear*
Eonwe Valar: *reclining chairs appear*
ArPharazonV: hmm, party
AriehnV: "it suddenly grows pleasantly warm and springlike temperatures as Anar lends her contribution*
Eonwe Valar: *tvs disappear*
Eonwe Valar: :}
ArPharazonV: a royal feast
AriehnV: hunting with Orome eh to provide the basics?
AriehnV: *lights the cooking fire with a soft touch of a sunbeam"
VardaValar1: Bits of starry effects appear all about in shaded areas.
Eonwe Valar: *Eonwė motions to the hearth, and the tale-fire is lit*
Eonwe Valar: Now everything should be set for the week :}

AriehnV: :-) ah well unfortunately i have to go to bed .. i was working earlier and have to again at an unfriendly trime .. if u call 1 pm unfriendly .
karakedi25: strews musical instruments and scrolls of poetry, gifts from the Vanyar
AriehnV: but i dont like such late starsts :0
AriehnV: i ll sail by tomorrow night at some point :-)
AriehnV: as we said earlier
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well Arien :}
AriehnV: Namarie :-)
VardaValar1: Rest well and fast!
karakedi25: namarie!
AriehnV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Some of us will be in the channel the entire week, or as much of it as our computers or the internet will allow.
VardaValar1: The chat channel marathon for 2010!
ArPharazonV: I'm not keeping my pc up during the nights, but I'll be in the channel whenever the pc's on
fladrifv has left the room.
VardaValar1: Since our nights and days are different, that should work. :-)
ArPharazonV: just need someone in australia now to pick up the gap!
VardaValar1: Where's Ungoliant when we need her? :-)
karakedi25: she consumed herself
karakedi25: I just had a thought--maybe Ungoliant *is* the void now
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Neat thought, but I meant Ungoliant, a member from Australia. : )
karakedi25: hehe
ArPharazonV: Ah, we have an Ungoliant? Neat.
ArPharazonV: anyway, saving and sending before going to bed
karakedi25: Is she a Maia? *grins*
VardaValar1: So, Ungoliant was the first black hole!
karakedi25: pretty much
VardaValar1: A power of some kind. ;-)
VardaValar1: Nighty night, Phar!
karakedi25: yes, she wasn't your ordinary Ainu
VardaValar1: Been arguments over whether to call her
VardaValar1: a Maia or something that was made during the creation of Arda.
