AriehnV: and yesterday i had an interesting meeting in Halls of Reflection i d like to mention]
AriehnV: through the dungeon findere there was a pali called Tinuviel in the group from Burning Legion server
AriehnV: and when i said *a Elbereth Tinuviel* she smiled and laughed ( i think u know the real version of this hehe)
AriehnV: aye a little gem since i get a wee bit frustrated with pve .. think i ll take a bit of a break there
VardaValar1: Bilbo, Sauron, Eowyn, Fangorn, Elwing, and Varda have been on - questing and in that dungeon tool you mentioned. :-)
VardaValar1: We quest together while in the queue.
VardaValar1: The Icecrown questing area reminds me of LotRO with its story moving along in the game as well, instancing.
VardaValar1: I suspect the Devs in both games play the other game a bit. If not, they should. And it makes both games better.
VardaValar1: We also saw Arwen and Arathorn. : )
ArPharazonV: well, we have seen them take features from each other
has been taking a back seat while we work up Lothar characters. We keep
swinging our focus back and forth between the two.
VardaValar1: Aye, good cross-pollination.
AriehnV: i think Turbine are and american sister company from blizzard
AriehnV: even the name suggests it
AriehnV: so it would make sense
VardaValar1: In LotRO
, Turbine distributes for the Americas and Codemaster distributes for Europe.
AriehnV: *nods go on*
VardaValar1: We are very lively all week.
VardaValar1: Today, the Melkorrim had their morning run, which they are willing to include others on.
karakedi25: increasing amounts of end-game play
VardaValar1: I came in the afternoon and we had
VardaValar1: two simultaneous three-man groups running Sword Halls three times at the same time, reporting to each other at the end.
karakedi25: That's an example of end-game play.
VardaValar1: I of course was in the group where no mithril flakes dropped, hehe, but we had plenty of great stuff.
VardaValar1: The Sword Halls are in Dol Guldur and need level 65's (cap).
VardaValar1: Indis, you wanted to speak? Go ahead.
karakedi25: good place for grinding the tokens needed for end-game items
karakedi25: so they're increasingly popular as our membership has more and more people at level cap
karakedi25: not sure how many now, but at least 10 and maybe more
karakedi25: (including alts)
VardaValar1: 14 last check
VardaValar1: more moving up.
karakedi25: I was in a group last night (not Valar) that attempted the real end-game dungeon, Barad Guldur.
karakedi25: We made it through great difficulties to the first boss, but it got too late for us to keep trying him after 2 wipes
karakedi25: but we will be back!
karakedi25: From a lore point of view, that's where the Lieutenant of DG hangs out, Kamul, I believe...
VardaValar1: DG-Dol Guldur
karakedi25: but lotro doesn't have the license to use his name
Tolkien: linguistics chat coming off of the LotRO gaming chat
VardaValar1: Khamul is the second-in-command of the Nazgul, right after the Witch-king.
AriehnV: its speculative anyway
karakedi25: As I remember, Kamul is the only name Tolkien gave; the others are indeed speculative
VardaValar1: Khamul, yes.
AriehnV: ah ok i mixed that up then .
ArPharazonV: yes, he was the only one named, in Unfinished Tales I believe
anyway, this is a real challenge awaiting the Valar Guild when we are
adequately geared. That's what running the Sword Halls is in aid of.
ArPharazonV: the Easterling
VardaValar1: Also in aid of The Watcher and Dar Nalgub, which name I am butchering.
karakedi25: Dar Nargulub
VardaValar1: Most people say DN. ;-)
karakedi25: which is another very nasty dungeon in Moria
VardaValar1: Thanks. : )
VardaValar1: It's the top Moria dungeon.
ArPharazonV: also a completely made up name I suppose?
karakedi25: The devs in LotRO use Hebrew for making up names in Khuzdul.
VardaValar1: Only a small section of Moria is told in the books, just where the Fellowship walked.
karakedi25: (and it's possible that Tolkien based Khuzdul on Hebrew in the first place)
VardaValar1: Do you have any basis for that?
VardaValar1: Speculation is fine. Just curious.
karakedi25: yes, a couple of things...one is that Melek, which occurs a lot in place names, means king in Hebrew.
karakedi25: the other is that I speculated with our dev who is the lore-monkey for lotro in a PM, and he confirmed that it was indeed so
VardaValar1: LotRO place name.s
VardaValar1: Very cool that he told you!
karakedi25: he made something of a mystery of it in the forum, so I PM'd him to check it out, and he confirmed my educated guess
VardaValar1: He confirmed that the Devs used Hebrew or JRRT?
VardaValar1: That I can believe. : )
ArPharazonV: if he knew JRRT used it, I'd like to know his source ;-)
karakedi25: for what he called 'pseudo-Khuzdul'
VardaValar1: Aye, Phar.
karakedi25: but I believe JRRT may also have done so, but I need a source as well
karakedi25: unfortunately my Hebrew, which was never worth much, is now almost non-existent
AriehnV: weel it sais in my German new Elvish book that Khuzdul had something in common with hebrew
would be hard to find a source for that, if he never stated his
inspiration we'll never get far beyond speculation, reasonable though
it might be
VardaValar1: Does it say JRRT said that?
karakedi25: I speculate that he used it as the base, but it's only speculation
AriehnV: its a similar structure .. three roots with various vowels to fill in
remember something vaguely about it but don't want to repeat it when
it's that badly remembered, but it seemed like he wasn't that fond of
VardaValar1: the language, but that is probably mis-remembering.
ArPharazonV: well he didn't develop Khuzdul very far ;-)
AriehnV: the word kh - z - d
AriehnV: k z d being the roots
ArPharazonV: Khuzdul would have those roots too
karakedi25: yes, that's very characteristic of semitic languages (triliteral roots)
AriehnV: yesseveral words that have to with dwarvish things
AriehnV: also the name for nargothrond
AriehnV: which means subterranean dwarf fortress
karakedi25: khizzd being the portion that refers to dwarves with mutations
AriehnV: but what i wanted to say .. that the number value of those three roots is seven
AriehnV: same as hazid - the word for seven in hebrew
karakedi25: for the 7 fathers?
karakedi25: certainly supports the supposition, doesn't it?
karakedi25: it's the kind of thing Tolkien would have done
AriehnV: just a wee excurse and roughly explained from what pesh writes in here
checking our language section in the Tolkien Site and finding that
Dwarvish has been neglected. We tend to jump over to the Ardalambion
karakedi25: there isn't very much around about it
karakedi25: that's probably enough about lotro from me, and it seems as though we're into Tolkien already
VardaValar1: We moved from LotRO to Tolkien languages.
karakedi25: yes, I'm aware of Ardalambion, a great site
VardaValar1: I let it go on into Tolkien.
VardaValar1: I am putting up the dwarvish link for those reading who may be interested.
VardaValar1: Do we wish to discuss the rp? Arien posted last time last Sunday.
VardaValar1: A nice bit of fighting there. : )
karakedi25: Arien, what's the name and author of the book you're reading?
karakedi25: sounds as though there's some good stuff there
folk, I must depart. I have some pickerel, or walleye (as they are
called in the US) fresh out of the lake and on my counter just begging
to be fried up for supper..have a good one
VardaValar1: Namarie, Tulkas!
VardaValar1: Sounds great!
karakedi25: enjoy your fish :-)
VardaValar1: We are pulling back from doing much on the rp
to give Eonwe a chance to post, when he gets time.
VardaValar1: So I'm switching to After-meeting
to free people to leave or continue any chat. :-)
karakedi25: which means that Frali may be sitting on Estarion for a while.
VardaValar1: Did you read what Frali did?
karakedi25: you may want to be sure you have plenty of throwing axes
VardaValar1: He did more than sit.
karakedi25: read above
VardaValar1: Ok, I'm taking off too.
VardaValar1 has left the room.
karakedi25: I'll be going back into LotRO, but nice to 'see' you all
karakedi25 has left the room.
AriehnV: Namarie :-)
AriehnV has left the room.
fladrifv has left the room.
