Joldahks has entered the room.
TulkasValar61: Yes,,im home now, but was able to get on one is still working hours for me, so it can be difficult

VardaValar1: It's great to see all of you here!
VardaValar1: Indis may come in a bit later.
VardaValar1: Eonwe is swamped at work and will be for a couple of weeks, then he should be able to take a breather and be here again. :-)
VardaValar1: Anyone have any membership news they'd like to share?
VardaValar1: We have members starting back to college, making it easier for some to be with us and harder for others.
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25: aiya
VardaValar1: Daddy Twofoot said hi and that he will be missing from LotRO starting February, but intends to return after
VardaValar1: and hopes to bring his wife into the group then. :-)
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis :-)
VardaValar1: Indis, did you want to mention any membership news?

VardaValar1: Web:
VardaValar1: Although nothing is visiblly new on the News page,
VardaValar1: I've been working on the Stories page,
VardaValar1: pages,
VardaValar1: repairing a novel sent in for the Mellon Chronicles where I somehow dropped a chapter from the middle, and am completing the formatting.
VardaValar1: I hope to have that done this coming week.
VardaValar1: and start into more new stuff.
VardaValar1: Is anyone else working on projects for the Tolkien Site?
VardaValar1: Stories, articles, other?
VardaValar1: (AIM says Tulkas is typing)
TulkasValar61: I started re-reading The Sil on wednesday..that is a bit of a project

karakedi25: nothing much in the way of membership for me, other than that my third lotro alt is half-way through level 63 (my burg)
VardaValar1: For sure, Tulkas!
VardaValar1: That would be gaming news, but good to hear. :-)
VardaValar1: On to Gaming then:
VardaValar1: What games did we play this last week that were not LotRO or WoW?
VardaValar1: StarCraft/BroodWar was played by Fangorn, Eowyn, Sauron, and Varda together. We were awesome. ;-)
ArPharazonV: Sorry, I haven't played any. Watched some series instead. I'm preparing to continue Gruntz though which I haven't played in a long time.
VardaValar1: We allow people to do other things in life, hehe.
TulkasValar61: While at work, I reloaded old diablo on my puter and got the char classes up to level 30,,,about as high as you can go single player..It was a blast from the past and provided good insight as to how things have progressed from 1995
VardaValar1: Very cool!
VardaValar1: Feels like they walk slowly, eh? : )
TulkasValar61: Remember when we complained about the walk from the healer to adria the witch for blue potions?
AriehnV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: hehe - yes
VardaValar1: Aiya Arien : )
AriehnV: aiya all lol sorry was still in Nexus and that is a dungeon where i dont want to get lost for a minute
VardaValar1: No worries, Arien. : )
fladrifv: *looks around* is it my stage?
VardaValar1: Fladrif may be having some chat log problems.
VardaValar1: If you walk onto it, aye!
fladrifv: *jumps on stage*
VardaValar1: *shores it up hurriedly*
TulkasValar61: I dont know if it qualifies but my wife and I are doing that Wii fit thing with the balance board each morning
VardaValar1: Oh cool!
fladrifv: wow what kind of floor will I need it if I start to wii fit?
ArPharazonV: oh, I tried that a few weeks ago when I was staying in Belgium. Exhausted me quite a bit, but then I had sessions of over half an hour.
ArPharazonV: Seems like a good workout, which I could probably use.
VardaValar1: Gamers may be famed for muscles next? : )
fladrifv: hehe soon the bodybuilders are the games
fladrifv: eh gamers
TulkasValar61: You need space about four feet all around and since i am tall I have issues with the ceiling
fladrifv: no I just played SL setting up new land , quite big project takes quite a bit of my time
ArPharazonV: Muscles is not what I need though. I could use them up to a point, but what I really need is... what's it called in English.. condition?
ArPharazonV: physical condition
VardaValar1: Aye conditioning, toning
ArPharazonV: get in shape, grow endurance, that sort of thing
TulkasValar61: I wasn't very bendy when I was 18,,,,,tis horrible now 30 yrs later
ArPharazonV: not becoming tired so fast ;-)
VardaValar1: Flad, you're on stage. What gaming have you been up to? :-)
VardaValar1: Methinks the lag got our ent again.
fladrifv: oh I did my say
fladrifv: let me repeat it :-)
fladrifv: I just played SL setting up new land , quite big project takes quite a bit of my time
TulkasValar61: SL ?
fladrifv: and won all chess matches against my coleauges at work
fladrifv: oh sorry Second Life
VardaValar1: Ohh, new land?
VardaValar1: Is it in Faery Crossing?
VardaValar1: Grat on the Chess. :-)
fladrifv: no new project
fladrifv: that was it for now
fladrifv: *steps off stage*
VardaValar1: Thank you, Flad :-)

VardaValar1: Moving to WoW:
VardaValar1: Phar, would you like to tell anything about Europe in the Argent Dawn server?
ArPharazonV: Well
ArPharazonV: There hasn't been any Valar-stuff
ArPharazonV: but personally I've gotten some progress in Icecrown Citadel, moving further into the new raidwing and getting revered with the Ashen Verdict
ArPharazonV: Not much else to say though
ArPharazonV: been a bit of a slow week
VardaValar1: Congrats :-)
ArPharazonV: oh, I'm also revered with Shen'dralar now
VardaValar1: Arien, did you see any of the other Valarrim?
VardaValar1: Grats again!
ArPharazonV: but the grind continues, since the Feat of Strength I'm after requires exalted
ArPharazonV: and now I pass to Arien
AriehnV: oki lol on que
AriehnV: sorry we needed three gos for the ley guardian four manned him with me on the green
AriehnV: i saw Helm of course and Calaron on AD
ArPharazonV: (Oculus - final boss - Eregos)
AriehnV: (aye)
AriehnV: and yesterday i had an interesting meeting in Halls of Reflection i d like to mention]
AriehnV: through the dungeon findere there was a pali called Tinuviel in the group from Burning Legion server
AriehnV: that was on AD
AriehnV: and when i said *a Elbereth Tinuviel* she smiled and laughed ( i think u know the real version of this hehe)
AriehnV: and at the end of the dungeon we said Namarie to each other :-)
VardaValar1: nice!
AriehnV: aye a little gem since i get a wee bit frustrated with pve .. think i ll take a bit of a break there
AriehnV: but one definitely meets interesting folks through that tool
VardaValar1: WoW Lothar server:
VardaValar1: Bilbo, Sauron, Eowyn, Fangorn, Elwing, and Varda have been on - questing and in that dungeon tool you mentioned. :-)
VardaValar1: We quest together while in the queue.
VardaValar1: The Icecrown questing area reminds me of LotRO with its story moving along in the game as well, instancing.
VardaValar1: I suspect the Devs in both games play the other game a bit. If not, they should. And it makes both games better.
VardaValar1: We also saw Arwen and Arathorn. : )
ArPharazonV: well, we have seen them take features from each other
VardaValar1: Uldaman has been taking a back seat while we work up Lothar characters. We keep swinging our focus back and forth between the two.
VardaValar1: Aye, good cross-pollination.

AriehnV: i think Turbine are and american sister company from blizzard
AriehnV: even the name suggests it
AriehnV: so it would make sense
VardaValar1: In LotRO, Turbine distributes for the Americas and Codemaster distributes for Europe.
AriehnV: *nods go on*
VardaValar1: LotRO:
VardaValar1: We are very lively all week.
VardaValar1: Today, the Melkorrim had their morning run, which they are willing to include others on.
karakedi25: increasing amounts of end-game play
VardaValar1: I came in the afternoon and we had
VardaValar1: two simultaneous three-man groups running Sword Halls three times at the same time, reporting to each other at the end.
karakedi25: That's an example of end-game play.
VardaValar1: I of course was in the group where no mithril flakes dropped, hehe, but we had plenty of great stuff.
VardaValar1: The Sword Halls are in Dol Guldur and need level 65's (cap).
VardaValar1: Indis, you wanted to speak? Go ahead.
karakedi25: good place for grinding the tokens needed for end-game items
karakedi25: so they're increasingly popular as our membership has more and more people at level cap
karakedi25: not sure how many now, but at least 10 and maybe more
karakedi25: (including alts)
VardaValar1: 14 last check
VardaValar1: more moving up.
karakedi25: I was in a group last night (not Valar) that attempted the real end-game dungeon, Barad Guldur.
karakedi25: We made it through great difficulties to the first boss, but it got too late for us to keep trying him after 2 wipes
karakedi25: but we will be back!
karakedi25: From a lore point of view, that's where the Lieutenant of DG hangs out, Kamul, I believe...
VardaValar1: DG-Dol Guldur
karakedi25: but lotro doesn't have the license to use his name

Tolkien: linguistics chat coming off of the LotRO gaming chat
VardaValar1: Khamul is the second-in-command of the Nazgul, right after the Witch-king.
AriehnV: its speculative anyway
karakedi25: As I remember, Kamul is the only name Tolkien gave; the others are indeed speculative
VardaValar1: Khamul, yes.
AriehnV: ah ok i mixed that up then .
ArPharazonV: yes, he was the only one named, in Unfinished Tales I believe
karakedi25: anyway, this is a real challenge awaiting the Valar Guild when we are adequately geared. That's what running the Sword Halls is in aid of.
ArPharazonV: the Easterling
VardaValar1: Also in aid of The Watcher and Dar Nalgub, which name I am butchering.
karakedi25: Dar Nargulub
VardaValar1: Most people say DN. ;-)
karakedi25: which is another very nasty dungeon in Moria
VardaValar1: Thanks. : )
VardaValar1: It's the top Moria dungeon.
ArPharazonV: also a completely made up name I suppose?
karakedi25: yes
karakedi25: The devs in LotRO use Hebrew for making up names in Khuzdul.
VardaValar1: Only a small section of Moria is told in the books, just where the Fellowship walked.
karakedi25: (and it's possible that Tolkien based Khuzdul on Hebrew in the first place)
VardaValar1: Do you have any basis for that?
VardaValar1: Speculation is fine. Just curious.
karakedi25: yes, a couple of is that Melek, which occurs a lot in place names, means king in Hebrew.
karakedi25: the other is that I speculated with our dev who is the lore-monkey for lotro in a PM, and he confirmed that it was indeed so
VardaValar1: LotRO place name.s
VardaValar1: Very cool that he told you!
karakedi25: :-)
karakedi25: he made something of a mystery of it in the forum, so I PM'd him to check it out, and he confirmed my educated guess
VardaValar1: He confirmed that the Devs used Hebrew or JRRT?
karakedi25: devs
VardaValar1: That I can believe. : )
ArPharazonV: if he knew JRRT used it, I'd like to know his source ;-)
karakedi25: for what he called 'pseudo-Khuzdul'
VardaValar1: Aye, Phar.
karakedi25: but I believe JRRT may also have done so, but I need a source as well
karakedi25: unfortunately my Hebrew, which was never worth much, is now almost non-existent
AriehnV: weel it sais in my German new Elvish book that Khuzdul had something in common with hebrew
ArPharazonV: would be hard to find a source for that, if he never stated his inspiration we'll never get far beyond speculation, reasonable though it might be
VardaValar1: Does it say JRRT said that?
karakedi25: I speculate that he used it as the base, but it's only speculation
AriehnV: its a similar structure .. three roots with various vowels to fill in
VardaValar1: I remember something vaguely about it but don't want to repeat it when it's that badly remembered, but it seemed like he wasn't that fond of Hebrew.
VardaValar1: the language, but that is probably mis-remembering.
ArPharazonV: well he didn't develop Khuzdul very far ;-)
AriehnV: the word kh - z - d
AriehnV: Khazad
AriehnV: k z d being the roots
ArPharazonV: Khuzdul would have those roots too
karakedi25: yes, that's very characteristic of semitic languages (triliteral roots)
AriehnV: yesseveral words that have to with dwarvish things
AriehnV: also the name for nargothrond
AriehnV: Nullukhizzdin
AriehnV: which means subterranean dwarf fortress
karakedi25: khizzd being the portion that refers to dwarves with mutations
AriehnV: but what i wanted to say .. that the number value of those three roots is seven
AriehnV: same as hazid - the word for seven in hebrew
karakedi25: for the 7 fathers?
AriehnV: yes
karakedi25: certainly supports the supposition, doesn't it?
karakedi25: it's the kind of thing Tolkien would have done
AriehnV: just a wee excurse and roughly explained from what pesh writes in here
VardaValar1: Just checking our language section in the Tolkien Site and finding that Dwarvish has been neglected. We tend to jump over to the Ardalambion for it.
karakedi25: there isn't very much around about it
karakedi25: that's probably enough about lotro from me, and it seems as though we're into Tolkien already
VardaValar1: We moved from LotRO to Tolkien languages.
karakedi25: yes, I'm aware of Ardalambion, a great site
VardaValar1: I let it go on into Tolkien.
VardaValar1: I am putting up the dwarvish link for those reading who may be interested.
VardaValar1: Do we wish to discuss the rp? Arien posted last time last Sunday.
VardaValar1: A nice bit of fighting there. : )
karakedi25: Arien, what's the name and author of the book you're reading?
karakedi25: sounds as though there's some good stuff there
TulkasValar61: Sorry folk, I must depart. I have some pickerel, or walleye (as they are called in the US) fresh out of the lake and on my counter just begging to be fried up for supper..have a good one
VardaValar1: Namarie, Tulkas!
VardaValar1: Sounds great!
karakedi25: aw
karakedi25: enjoy your fish :-)
VardaValar1: We are pulling back from doing much on the rp to give Eonwe a chance to post, when he gets time.

VardaValar1: So I'm switching to After-meeting to free people to leave or continue any chat. :-)
karakedi25: which means that Frali may be sitting on Estarion for a while.
VardaValar1: Did you read what Frali did?
karakedi25: you may want to be sure you have plenty of throwing axes
VardaValar1: He did more than sit.
karakedi25: yes
karakedi25: read above
VardaValar1: yep
VardaValar1: Ok, I'm taking off too.
VardaValar1: Namarie!
VardaValar1 has left the room.
karakedi25: I'll be going back into LotRO, but nice to 'see' you all
karakedi25: namarie
karakedi25 has left the room.
AriehnV: Namarie :-)
AriehnV has left the room.
fladrifv: Namarie
ArPharazonV: namarie
fladrifv has left the room.
TulkasValar61 has left the room.
