TulkasValar61: This looks different
VardaValar1: Did you change versions?
VardaValar1: Sauron says Hi : )
TulkasValar61: You would have to ask my computer...it does stuff Im not aware of all the time
Eonwe Valar: Heya to Sauron.
Eonwe Valar: Heya to Tulkas' computer :}
VardaValar1: You may have had it set for an automatic update. : )
TulkasValar61: finally think I have figured what that wierd creeky door noise on my puter that has been bugging me for months is...its this program letting me know someone has come online
AriehnV has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: Aiya Arien : )
AriehnV: aiya all :-)
ArPharazonV: aiya
TulkasValar61: That was really bugging me...thought it was a virus or something telling me they were entering the puter thru the back door
VardaValar1: heh
VardaValar1: You need to set AIM so that it only comes on when you want it. Running it at the same time as LotRO may be one of your problems.
VardaValar1: You can also change the alert sound.
AriehnV: i never run aims when i run the games .. it ccauses me trouble , lagwise
TulkasValar61: Sorry i will be afk cooking supper but will glance at screen to keep caught up
VardaValar1: Please take the suggestions about AIM sometime.
VardaValar1: Supper? We're coming to your house.
TulkasValar61: Will do...
VardaValar1: Stew cooking here.
VardaValar1: *meeting moves to Tulkas' house*
AriehnV: We had beef curry with rice and sweet chili sauce a wee while ago :-)
pallandovalar: /me has pizza
VardaValar1: Sounds delicious : )
AriehnV: but i always can take a second helping
TulkasValar61: pork roast, garlic grren bean, brocolli salad with cranberries and apple crisp with vannilla ice cream
AriehnV: a second meal even ... elevenses .. hehe
AriehnV: or second dinner it would be?
VardaValar1: *pulls out a fork*
ArPharazonV: just finishing my last pilgrim's daily for today and I'll be all ready for meeting!
TulkasValar61: An evedim pork roast..darn that stupid hobbit..wasted a bit of time on that
fladrifv has entered the room.
TulkasValar61: afk
fladrifv: Aiya
AriehnV: Aiya Ent :-)
VardaValar1: He just couldn't believe there were no boars in Evendim. There's a song about that on the Internet. :-)
VardaValar1: Aiya Fladrif : )
top

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: A star shines on the hour of our meeting. : )
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: We have a new Full Member: Gloin-(V) : )
VardaValar1: He was brought in by Boromhir, the name we're using until we can clear whether or not he can use the Boromir-(V) name.
VardaValar1: The previous Boromir has not yet responded by email.
VardaValar1: I sent the email Nov. 12.
VardaValar1: Has anyone heard from our previous Boromir at all? GPMU, gaming, other?
AriehnV: nope .. nothing
Eonwe Valar: Doesn't look like he responded to the GPMU.
VardaValar1: He was in WC3, D2X, so we probably would have had trouble catching him in-game.
VardaValar1: In AIM, he would be MadHattaMayer
VardaValar1: Is there a way to check how long it's been since they were last using that name on AIM?
Eonwe Valar: Not that I'm aware of...
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25: aiya!
Eonwe Valar: Heya Indis.
VardaValar1: Aiya Indis : )
VardaValar1: Boromir's last Forum post was May 26, 2004
VardaValar1: Last email May 2007
VardaValar1: He's been a member since July 23, 2001
VardaValar1: Eonwe just went afk
VardaValar1: I wanted to ask if you folks thought we should give Boromir-(V) more time to answer that Nov 12 email? Or go ahead and give the name to the new LotRO member?
VardaValar1: Or no opinion. : )
AriehnV: in my oppinion it looks like he has not been active for some while , and seems to have no further interest in beinga an active member
karakedi25: It might be fair to give the current Bormir a month.
AriehnV: so that would be about three weeks more
ArPharazonV: name the new lotro-member, let them fight it out if the old one comes back?
VardaValar1: He has not been heard from since 2007.
AriehnV: i would give the name to the new memmber to be honest
karakedi25: How it's been about 2 weeks since th 3-mail
ArPharazonV: then how'd he get past the last 2 clearings?
karakedi25: *e-mail
VardaValar1: If I gave the new member the name, as I'm inclined to, the old one could return with a new name.
VardaValar1: Could you retype that, Indis?
TulkasValar61: Even me.the great disappearerer managed to answer before being cleansed off the annals of Valar guild
VardaValar1: I was inclined to make the name change today, did not expect anyone to want to keep him, heh.
karakedi25: I'm ok with giving him the name, as it looks as though the new one will be active with his friend
karakedi25: How much time to you usually give inactive members to respond before you 'cleanse' them?
TulkasValar61: He sent me a tell asking name of the aim room at 4:55 should be here.
VardaValar1: I am inviting him now.
VardaValar1: He just sent me a tell.
VardaValar1: The old one is not in trouble and is welcome to return with a new name.
drpepper3945@hotmail.com has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Welcome : )
drpepper3945@hotmail.com: Thank you ! Wow this was hard, I've been trying to get in for 25 minutes :P
VardaValar1: I'll wait for Eonwe before making a final statement on it.
VardaValar1: Anything the first time can be hard. : )
AriehnV: I presume that is he who we are talking about?
AriehnV: aiya there :-)
drpepper3945@hotmail.com: Aiya ! Pleased to meet you
karakedi25: Aiya!
AriehnV: Welcome to the Valar guild :-)
drpepper3945@hotmail.com: Thank you
ArPharazonV: Aiya
VardaValar1: Aye, this is Boromhir, the one whose name we're considering. : )
VardaValar1: He's been a fine member and exceptional for coming to a meeting. ;-)
VardaValar1: Boro, would you like to say a few words to introduce yourself? You know some of us already in LotRO. : )
drpepper3945@hotmail.com: I am an avid player of LOTRO and die-hard fan of LOTR lore, and I'm pleased to have joined a guild who has the same interests as me (gaming, lotr) and I've been having a great time with every guild member on the lotro part of the community, and my real name is [name removed by editor], I live in quebec, I am married
drpepper3945@hotmail.com: (Excuse my english btw :-) )
drpepper3945@hotmail.com: Hum ! I don't know what to say !
TulkasValar61: Salut Maxime,
drpepper3945@hotmail.com: Salut ! :-) ahah !
VardaValar1: Welcome : )
TulkasValar61: Bienvenue au Valar
drpepper3945@hotmail.com: =) Merci !
pallandovalar: Salaam!
pallandovalar: Oh, sorry. Thought it was not-english day. My bad. :-)
karakedi25: Mae govannen, Boromir :-)
ArPharazonV: oh, don't get me started in Dutch
VardaValar1: Tolkien languages are always welcome. : )
TulkasValar61: Je viens de Gananaque, juste ouest de Quebec
VardaValar1: International group here. We use English for the Common tongue. : )
drpepper3945@hotmail.com: Oh really Tulkas that's nice !
karakedi25: English aka Westron :-)
TulkasValar61: With a sprinkling of the language of the elves when someone has an inkling
drpepper3945@hotmail.com: Saesa omentien lle
VardaValar1: We should dig up some Dwarvish now and then too. : )
Eonwe Valar: Baruk Khazad :}
VardaValar1: hehee
AriehnV: Khazad ai menu !
VardaValar1: Ducking axes swung by short dwarves is not an option.
AriehnV: Frali :*pats his axe*
ArPharazonV: *wonders if it's his place to say something Adunaic*
ArPharazonV: oh well, Adunaic is supposed to be pretty close to Westron anyway
VardaValar1: Give it a shot, Phar. : )
drpepper3945@hotmail.com: (I'm sorry to bother you all with this, but since it's my first time on an IM, how do I change my name to a nickname, my email addresse isnt very aesthetic :P )
ArPharazonV: I don't know anything *grin*
TulkasValar61: hmmm scrabble in the dwarvishlanguage only...would be really challenging with only one z and one x...gonna have to think on that
karakedi25: I wasn't able to do it on AiM, but it was possible on Pidgin, which is what i'm using now.
ArPharazonV: it depends on the accountname you use for AIM, I think
ArPharazonV: maybe you can alter it at the website
drpepper3945@hotmail.com: Oh well, it isn't very important anyways :-D
drpepper3945@hotmail.com: Thanks a lot ^^
VardaValar1: lol Tulkas
ArPharazonV: and there's always room for dr pepper anyway!
karakedi25: I only have one account on AOL, but several screen-names on AIM on the same account
VardaValar1: It helps us recognize people if they can use a screen name with their guild name.
VardaValar1: Indis, do you have an Indis screen name we should be inviting?
karakedi25: I do on Pidgin. On AIM, I'm karakedi25, and I have been unable to change that.
ArPharazonV: didn't you just say you had several screennames?
karakedi25: yes, but karakedi25 is the Valar Guild one
VardaValar1: If you make an Indis screen name, we can invite it. Pallando has a collection of them. :-)
VardaValar1: Pallando, are you present?
ArPharazonV: ah yes, the ventriloquist trio..
karakedi25: I'm Indis on Pidgin. Seems to me I'm showing up as Indis now.
VardaValar1: After his promotion from Orodreth to Pallando, he made a new Pallando screen name. If we invite just that, we don't get the others.
VardaValar1: He says he'll be with us in about 2 minutes. : )
VardaValar1: To my AIM, you show as karakedi25
ArPharazonV: same here, so I guess that's true for everyone on AIM
karakedi25: in chat what do I show up as to you?
drpepper3945@hotmail.com: I'll be right back, I might have found out what to do ^^ (Ill be quick, promise)
ArPharazonV: karakedi25
karakedi25: odd
ArPharazonV: in yellow, if you want to know :-)
drpepper3945@hotmail.com has left the room.
karakedi25: I see me in blue
ArPharazonV: I think everyone sees themselves in a standard color
VardaValar1: We see ourselves in one color and others in other colors. Not the same to everyone.
ArPharazonV: I think everyone sees themselves in red in AIM?
TulkasValar61: That is probably true for life in general
VardaValar1: I see karakedi in green, ArPharazonV in blue.
VardaValar1: Aye, my name is in red.
pallandovalar: karakedi25: you are able to make a local echo name for everyone
ArPharazonV: I see me in red, Varda in blue.... the blue person is whoever came into the room first (or second if you were first)
pallandovalar: but this has nothing to do with what your actual AIM accoutn name
TulkasValar61: was just getting philosophical...sorry bout that
pallandovalar: it's just how Pidgin shows it to you
Boromhir has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Congrats! Well done!
Boromhir: Sorry for this :-)
pallandovalar: handy for when people have names that have nothing to do with who it is
ArPharazonV: Borom....hir?
VardaValar1: How did you do it, Boromhir?
ArPharazonV: where'd that spelling come from?
ArPharazonV: third edition? ;-)
pallandovalar: so when your friend has the s/n gr8p4rtyfre4k12354, you can make it so Pidgin remembers it should call that person "Sara"
VardaValar1: It's how he comes in for LotRO.
ArPharazonV: ah
Boromhir: I'm not yet promoted as a full member (boromir) and my game name is boromhir (hir meaning lord if i remember correctly)
VardaValar1: Good memory : )
pallandovalar: but that doesn't change the fact that your friends s/n is gr6p4rtyfre4k12354
pallandovalar: just that pidgic displays it to you, locally, as Sara
pallandovalar: all you've done is apply that to yourself when you see yourself as Indis
VardaValar1: We were just discussing whether or not to drop the old Boromir now and give the name to this gentleman. The old one should have already been dropped last year, but I was remiss.
VardaValar1: So Pidgin helps you make sense out of the weird names your friends use? Nice : )
VardaValar1: I use notes for that in AIM.
ArPharazonV: aye, AIM has options for adding comments to buddy names in the buddylist
ArPharazonV: I use that for most obscure Valarguild names
karakedi25: I don't see any way in AIM to change karakedi25 to Indis
karakedi25: is there a way?
Boromhir: yes
karakedi25: how
Boromhir: well
VardaValar1: Boro just did it.
karakedi25: what did you do?
pallandovalar: no
pallandovalar: he got a new name/already had it
Boromhir: yes
Boromhir: well i'm new to this program so i dont know what i did
karakedi25: new screen name?
Boromhir: created a new screen name
pallandovalar: He just got a new name, no one had grabbed Bormhir, yet.
karakedi25: I might be able to do that and cancel this one
pallandovalar: It's not liek they cost anything. :-)
VardaValar1: You don't have to cancel, just add the screen name.
ArPharazonV: don't need to cancel this one, just make sure you get the new one invited in the future
pallandovalar: /me has about 20, floating around
VardaValar1: If we know the name, we put that one on our buddy list and invite it.
karakedi25: *is looking for the way to get a new screen name in AIM*
VardaValar1: On the Boromir name, side talk going on. We're giving the old Boromir one more week. If no response, the name goes to Boromhir.
VardaValar1: That should cover all objections for and against.
VardaValar1: Any further comment, in case I'm wrong on that? : )
ArPharazonV: I think we should have 2 Boromirs *nod*
pallandovalar: /me nods sharply
ArPharazonV: every name doubled or tripled if people want them, will be much more fun, and harder to figure out who's who!
pallandovalar: My work here is done!
VardaValar1: I remember having 3 Beorns. *shudder*
pallandovalar: /me takes flight
VardaValar1: Back to the East to your cult? : )
VardaValar1: I put a moratorium on the Beorn name for a long time until all three cleared out.
AriehnV: ah well i d suggest just give him a week more and give Boro the full Boromir name
VardaValar1: So you agree to the one more week wait also. : )
VardaValar1: Any further comment?
Boromhir: Am I boromir until he responds in one week, or I am boromir if he doesnt respond in one week
Eonwe Valar: You are Boromir if he doesn't respond in one week.
VardaValar1: You are an initiate until one week from now.
ArPharazonV: if
VardaValar1: Then one of you will have the name for all of next year.
Boromhir: Alright !
Boromhir: I can wait a week :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: yay!
VardaValar1: I will be going over the names for the annual inactivity Sweep.
pallandovalar: Oh
pallandovalar: On that note, and before I forget
VardaValar1: Please be sure to make yourself known as wanting to be with us at least towards the end of each year. Forum, email, something. : )
pallandovalar: I'll be moving to Texas this next week here, dunno when I'll have net back.
ArPharazonV: lifetime memberships still count? ;-)
VardaValar1: Yes. : )
VardaValar1: Thanks for letting us know, Pallando!
VardaValar1: Dis is also moving to Texas with her husband for a new job.
VardaValar1: Texas is taking over the guild. : )
ArPharazonV: I guess us Europeans will still be Europeans though :-)
VardaValar1: We may yet get Menelvagor. ;-)
VardaValar1: But we need the variety!
AriehnV: i ll believe that when i see it alas
VardaValar1: I don't expect it, j/k.
karakedi25 has left the room.
VardaValar1: Any further membership news?
AriehnV: i am on hols now for two weeks :-) back today in a fortnight at work
pallandovalar: (san angelo, dunno if that's near the rest of you)
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25: Sorry, had to reboot my computer
VardaValar1: Welcome back : )
VardaValar1: Since we are scattered all over, we can say yes. : )
ArPharazonV: was hoping to see you back as Indis :-) haven't figured it out yet, have you?
karakedi25: No, had to reboot befoere I could
VardaValar1: Any further Membership news?
top

VardaValar1: Web News:
VardaValar1: I have not added anything this week to the Tolkien Site, starting into the Activity Sweep for the Membership section.
VardaValar1: Eonwe, any news from Gaming?
Eonwe Valar: Just ongoing work.
VardaValar1: Anything visible yet?
karakedi25: Membership--I'm in California through Dec. 1 so on Pacific Time.
Eonwe Valar: Nothing visible yet.
VardaValar1: Thanks and thanks. : )
top

VardaValar1: Gaming:
karakedi25: My participation in LotRO will be irregular, as I also have family and friend obligations
VardaValar1: You also have work
VardaValar1: Most of us are irregular for the same reasons. : )
VardaValar1: Non-LotRO and non-WoW gaming played this last week?
VardaValar1: Fladrif?
ArPharazonV: if not Flad, I have a few tidbits
VardaValar1: Phar, go ahead.
ArPharazonV: allright, to start off, Starcraft
VardaValar1: We'll poke the ent awake meanwhile.
ArPharazonV: I've reached the last level of the Zerg campaign in Brood War, therewith the last level in the game entirely, and gotten a bit into the mission
ArPharazonV: opposition isn't that staggering yet, but as it's supposed to be the hardest level in the game, I have no doubt I'll be facing many frustrations in there in the coming week
ArPharazonV: also Starcraft, there are some new articles and things up on the Starcraft II website that I've seen, including heroes' biographies and a short story of 6 pages which I have not yet had time to read yet
Boromhir: I've played Alundra and Tales of Destiny II this week.. PS1 RPGs. :-)
ArPharazonV: subject nr 2: I've played a few flashgames on the internet, in particular exploring http://www.physicsgames.net/
ArPharazonV: physics games are games that employ physics' process in some way like stress, gravity, trajectory, etc... other than that, it's quite a variety of games, including construction, demolition, some platform games, and a few other types
ArPharazonV: I recommend it if you're bored some day :-)
ArPharazonV: as for the third topic, hasn't developed much yet:
VardaValar1: (afk for supper, will scroll, Eonwe has the chair)
ArPharazonV: I've been dabbling into a genre called "bullet hells" which are 2d shooters in which the main challenge is to dodge swarms and patterns of bullets and projectiles or such stuff, I'm sure there might be people here who are more familiar with the genre
Boromhir: like Contra?
ArPharazonV: I've tried my hand at a few flashgames of this type, and have also gained possession of an apparently classical series within this genre called the "Touhou Project"
ArPharazonV: not sure I know Contra, but a quick wiki would indeed imply that to be an example
ArPharazonV: the genre seems quite difficult and stressful, but I'm gonna give it a few tries anyway, see how good and far I might get ;-)
ArPharazonV: and that was my gaming news for this week
ArPharazonV: Varda's afk, but I'm sure it's your turn to speak now about the games you just mentioned ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Quite alot of gaming :}
ArPharazonV: ah right, Eonwe has chair
ArPharazonV: *bows and steps away*
Eonwe Valar: :}
ArPharazonV: yeah, a fair lot, but less time went into it than it looks
Eonwe Valar: Did you want to tell anything about your games, Boromhir?
Boromhir: Not much to say, these are story driven games, one looks like the legend of zelda, the other is more like a final fantasy game
Eonwe Valar: Ah.
Boromhir: pretty fun, but im jammed on LOTRO now i dont think ill play muh more of those for a while lol
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other non-WoW, non-LotRO gaming?
AriehnV: i am just looking a bit at the 4story link that is on the website at the moment
AriehnV: its a free mmrpg , and i am just nosing
AriehnV: but looks pretty complicated , a celt- ibero based history between a tyrannic nation and a rebellious province thaT declared itself independent
AriehnV: so basically you chose either one of the tyrannic mother nation or the rebels
AriehnV: with six classes , similar to the wow classes
AriehnV: but how and what i ll have to see i am down loading it
Eonwe Valar: Good luck with it :}
AriehnV: probably delete it again after a bit but just to see what is like
AriehnV: ;-)
AriehnV: else there was nothing else from me
Eonwe Valar: ok.
TulkasValar61: back from supper
Eonwe Valar: Welcome back :}
Eonwe Valar: Let's move on to WoW now.
AriehnV: wb Tulkas :-)
Eonwe Valar: First off, don't forget to stop in and get your Feat of Strength and Onyxian Whelpling for the 5th Anniversary of World of Warcraft.
ArPharazonV: the whelpling scares me, too big eyes, even for WoW it's cartoonish
ArPharazonV: a bit like Egbert I guess
Eonwe Valar: It deep breathes :}
Eonwe Valar: Second, this week is Pilgrim's Bounty.
ArPharazonV: yes, true :-) which is why we recommend not using it during raidencounters ;-)
Eonwe Valar: If you have characters you've been wanting to get cooking levelled up on, and just haven't had the time, money, or patience to do so, this is your chance.
Eonwe Valar: Of course, there's also a title and a pet involved, so you might want to do the achievements even if your cooking is maxed.
Eonwe Valar: Lothar [note: WoW server]: Several of us got together a couple of days this week and hit heroics.
Eonwe Valar: Lvl 70 heroics, but heroics nonetheless :}
VardaValar1: (back, Eonwe remains as chair)
Boromhir: wb ^^
Eonwe Valar: We got some of our Outland reps up, and I finally hit exalted with the Cenarion Expedition.
Eonwe Valar: Of course I then immediately blew a bit chunk of money to get a Cenarion War Hippogryph :}
Eonwe Valar: bit = big.
Eonwe Valar: Uldaman:
Eonwe Valar: I don't have much to tell here, as I only popped in for a moment.
VardaValar1: Most of us from Uldaman popped in to get our pets, a little questing, but snuck over to Lothar server most of this last week.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Varda.
Eonwe Valar: Arien has a report from our European guys on Argent Dawn.
AriehnV: Yes my little Shaman Unarien has recruited the Rogue Caldros (Ar Pharazon) for a demolition tour at the Cyro Core
AriehnV: It was a lot of fun and blasting as it is , escorting the Demolitioner , an elite 20 npc up to the top and rid Bloodmyst Isle from the great pink demon .. name as usual forgotten
TulkasValar61 has left the room.
AriehnV: Caldros came from the other Azzeroth to help me out
AriehnV: and was happy to as he as none Draenei doesnt get the chance to do this :-)
AriehnV: Else Unarien passed the trial of wateer , got a gray Elek and is about close to lvl 23 i think
ArPharazonV: *nod* the little fellow (gnome) had been questing in Bloodmyst, finishing up a few weeks earlier, but the final quests against the bloodelves are only available to the draenei
ArPharazonV: so I was glad I got to see that part of the story again after all :-)
AriehnV: :-) aye its good fun and a reminder of the storyline . that was our guild adventure for this week :-)
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
AriehnV: In other news my Finduilasse has blasted himself considerably to level 50
Eonwe Valar: Your report reminded me that I also finished my Loremaster Achievement this week, since I had to finish it out with Draenei starter quests :}
AriehnV: and Ariehn stabbed a wormed herself to 77 :-)
AriehnV: (she is my rogue)
Indis V has entered the room.
AriehnV: I have also posted a short background story for Finduilasse on the WoW argent dawn forum#
VardaValar1: Welcome to Indis' doppleganger. : )
AriehnV: ah Indis :-D welcome back
Indis V: :-)
Eonwe Valar: WB Indis :}
ArPharazonV: as long as they don't start talking to each other like Pallando's accounts it's fine with me ;-)
karakedi25: thanks
karakedi25 has left the room.
Indis V: how does he do that?
Eonwe Valar: I thought your story was in the WoW RP board of our forums?
AriehnV: yes
AriehnV: in the argent dawn section
ArPharazonV: just keeping both (or all 3) names in the chatroom and addressing/responding to each other, Indis
AriehnV: I mean on our board , Eonwe :-)
Eonwe Valar: We don't have an Argent Dawn section for the RP/Tales of Lore forum... :}
AriehnV: on the valar guild bord , WoW Argent Dawn, rp section
Indis V: heh...too much trouble
AriehnV: let me know if there are any blunders lorewise but i think it fits
AriehnV: thats it from me :-)
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: That then brings it to LotRO:
Eonwe Valar: I beleive it was this week Varda, myself, and someone else (my apologies, my mind went blank on who) got together to finish up Book 2 and get somewhat of a start on Book 3 in Volume 1.
VardaValar1: We have been very busy in LotRO, with a surprising amount of it in lowbie fellowships.
VardaValar1: Aye, we have been clearing book quests.
VardaValar1: I ran yesterday with Eomer and Forlong and friends, got Forlong well along, but Eomer had to leave before gettting started well.
VardaValar1: We had a kin group yesterday working on the Fornost instance, made progress.
VardaValar1: Tulkas' computer got too hot part way in forcing him off, but we cleared a number of quests.
VardaValar1: Then off to Dol Dinen and cleared a number of those in a 6-man.
VardaValar1: That was one day, not even planned.
VardaValar1: Boromir and Gloin have been running together leveling fast, and I've joined them a few times.
VardaValar1: Nimrodel and Gildor run together a lot, husband and wife team, and got us going into the Fornost run.
VardaValar1: Crafting funness went on also, with Melkor and Orome helping Tulkas with a new outfit.
AriehnV: oh which reminds me i was a bit in Dol Dinen with Auros on Wednesday during the maintenace :-)
karakedi25 has entered the room.
karakedi25 has left the room.
VardaValar1: Another use for LotRO, giving the WoW people somewhere to go during maintenance. ;-)
AriehnV: Arienwyn is now 32 hehe
VardaValar1: Nice : )
VardaValar1: Soon you'll be wanting a horse!
Eonwe Valar: Maintainance is Tuesdays when at all, I just happened to be up really late/early in the morning :}
AriehnV: aye i want it by the end of my holiday :-)
VardaValar1: O good! We should be seeing more of you then.
Indis V: I started a new character yesterday, a captain, and she has reached the exalted level of 11. :-)
Indis V: She'll be looking for company for fellowship quests soon....hope some of you have some lowbies left.
VardaValar1: And when Indis starts a character she tends to have a good focus and take it on up.
VardaValar1: Will you be on this evening?
AriehnV: i have some lowbies at around that level actually too :-)
Indis V: Not sure. Scheduled for dinner with my father, and of course I'm on Pacific time atm
VardaValar1: My wee minstrel is about ready to leave the Shire, talk with Strider.
Indis V: would be great to have some company for those quests
VardaValar1: Arien needs to be playing in your afternoon I think?
Indis V: My little captain is finishing up Combe quests; one she can't do yet (three on one, two yellows and one blue)
AriehnV: Warden , minstrel or captain take your pick or the hunter
Indis V: :-)
Indis V: whatever would best complement a captain
AriehnV: or guardian actually as well
AriehnV: i can play a bit towards your evening but shouldnt be getting too late/early on that basis ;-)
Indis V: minnie might be nice, to heal and deal damage
Indis V: PST is GMT -8
AriehnV: maybe about 2 am should be the end of the fun :/ just to stay sensible
VardaValar1: Don't kill yourself to come on. We can game with you earlier in the day too.
AriehnV: :-) if about 8 pm that is around 12 your time would be possible or so or maybe 2 hours later that should fit as well
TulkasValar61 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Welcome back
AriehnV: welcome back Tulkas :-)
VardaValar1: We are in LotRO talk now, if you'd like to add something.
VardaValar1: Sorry about your comp in Fornost.
TulkasValar61: you know how it goes..need a new puter, but truck repairs come first :'(
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: True : )
TulkasValar61: II had a blast playing with Melkor and Orome together for the first time in years
Indis V: they're good fun to fellow with :-)
TulkasValar61: In the fellowship I could hear them talking about the sorry state of my gear..and in true Valar fashion I had new stuff in the mail in a few hours
Indis V has left the room.
VardaValar1: hehehe
TulkasValar61: Im just 2000 xp pts short of being able to wear it 8-)
VardaValar1: We need to go play, sounds like. ; )
Indis V has left the room.
ArPharazonV: oh dear, Indis appears to be having some problems?
VardaValar1: She is experimenting
Indis V has left the room.
ArPharazonV: the double "has left the room" (or triple by now) usually doesn't mean much good
Indis V has left the room.
TulkasValar61: One thing I do not like about Lotro is bind on acquire..cant pass stuff on..
VardaValar1: That is for quest items and true in many games for a reason.
Indis V has left the room.
VardaValar1: You should not give a reward for a quest to someone who didn't do it.
TulkasValar61: Yes I see that, but the stuff isnt really all that good...It took me 18 levels and an elite boss in fornost to finally find a bow that just a little better than the one I was using at level 22
Eonwe Valar: Plus, they don't want anyone to instantly have the best gear. Alot of people would never get to experience a chunk of the content that way, either by their own choice or others who don't want to take the time to take them through it.
VardaValar1: Bows usually only go up slightly.
Eonwe Valar: OK, are we done with LotRO news? :}
VardaValar1: Aye
top

Eonwe Valar: Ok, on to Tolkien:
AriehnV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: First, we have a couple of new RP posts. Don't forget to give them a look.
AriehnV has entered the room.
AriehnV: opps bler sorry puter crashed :-(
VardaValar1: Tulkas' twin. : )
TulkasValar61: When mine goes it usually takes up to an hour to revive :-X
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Anyone have a TOlkien topic?
TulkasValar61: emnity between the races?
fladrifv: woops I missed the meeting, namarie all
TulkasValar61: that is a big one though
fladrifv: RL was interfering
ArPharazonV: which races? dwarves and elves? humans and elves? orcs and everything else? dragons and everything else?
VardaValar1: Namarie Flad
ArPharazonV: namarie Flad
fladrifv has left the room.
TulkasValar61: i was thinking dwarves and elves for a particular reason
Indis V has left the room.
AriehnV: always a thankful one **
karakedi25 has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Well, Dwarves and Elves go almost as far back as Elves and orcs :}
VardaValar1: Welcome back Indis
karakedi25: thanks
karakedi25: I have been experimeting, and for some reason, I can join in Pidgin as karakedi25, but not as IndisV
karakedi25: *experimenting
ArPharazonV: Dwarves and Elves... never really a friendly combination, I believe the first Dwarves that Elves saw were petty-dwarves and they shot at them
TulkasValar61: and jealousies of the Valar
karakedi25: actually the Sindar and the dwarves of Belegost got on fairly well until the sack of Menegroth
ArPharazonV: then there was a bit of piece whereby the sons of Feanor traded with them and Eol did business with them (though he wasn't really representative of Elvendom as a whole)
ArPharazonV: *peace
ArPharazonV: and then there was the Menegroth business, of course
VardaValar1: The elves didn't realize what the petty-dwarves were, thought they were another of Morgoth's bad set and accidentally made it so.
ArPharazonV: which gave them some strained relations, which pretty much lasted to the end of the third age if not longer, with the exception of Eregion and Moria
Eonwe Valar: The first Dwarves the Sindar came across were the Petty-Dwarves, and they were hunted. When they met the Dwarves ofthe Blue Mountains (Nogrod and Belegost) they quit hunting the Petty-Dwarves, as they had thought they were some sort of animal or minion of Morgoth.
karakedi25: the Noldor of Eregion and the dwarves of Moria were quite friendly
ArPharazonV: then there was Thorin and his companions, caught and captured by Thranduil
ArPharazonV: then there was the companionship of Legolas and Gimli...
karakedi25: yes, not a high point in the history of elves and dwarves
ArPharazonV: and then... hmm... did I miss anything?
ArPharazonV: that pretty much sums it up, though there's probably not a piece in my summary that can't be expanded on
VardaValar1: Gimli and Legolas each had their own colonies so their people would have been friendly. And they had connections with Mirkwood and Rivendell, so relationships improved.
Eonwe Valar: What do you mean "jealousies of the Valar," Tulkas?
Indis V has left the room.
ArPharazonV: I suppose the Battle of the Five Armies wouldn't have been bad for Mirkwood-Erebor relations when it was over, though they started in hostility
Indis V has left the room.
ArPharazonV: though one could assume the men of Dale mediated the situation a bit
VardaValar1: True. They seemed to have become fairly friendly at the end, especially Thranduil.
Indis V has left the room.
karakedi25: have you already discussed the roleplay?
VardaValar1: We were waiting for Tulkas' reply
VardaValar1: The rp was mentioned not discussed
VardaValar1: Maybe Tulkas' comp went down again.
TulkasValar61: Well the other vala were not too happy with Aule when he created the drwarves and did not Eru make an appearance to sancitfy the dwarves
VardaValar1: That's not quite how it went.
TulkasValar61: sorry its been years since I have read the Sil
VardaValar1: Aule made them and Eru was unhappy with them.
VardaValar1: No comment by other Valar.
Eonwe Valar: Yavanna was the only one Aulė told about the Dwarves.
ArPharazonV: wasn't Yavanna worried about them?
Eonwe Valar: At least at the time.
karakedi25: As far as I know, the other Valar were not involved, except that after Eru validated the dwarves, Yavanna was concerned about what they would do to the trees
Eonwe Valar: Yavanna was more worried about her trees.
VardaValar1: When Aule showed remorse and tried to correct it, Eru gave them life, but said they would have to show up in a more proper order and put them to sleep for later awakening.
karakedi25: So the Elves would still be the Firstborn
VardaValar1: Right
VardaValar1: Yavanna was worried about more than dwarves, but all the others who would make use of the wood.
ArPharazonV: seems a bit odd, now that I think about it.... "You've done a fine job building a people, but I was first, so they'll just have to wait a bit"
Eonwe Valar: Eru also said he would not amend Aulė's work in any other way than giving them their own being.
VardaValar1: They were not a fine job, and it was Aule's impatience, wanting to see the Children so bad.
karakedi25: quite so, but it came up in connection with Aule's proud announcement of his handiwork
ArPharazonV: well, you get my point...
karakedi25: poor Aule must have been very deflated by her reaction
VardaValar1: Aule was not an egotistic person, luckily. Practical though. "They will still have need of wood."
karakedi25: (kind of a Hephaestus and Aphrodite kind of marriage)
VardaValar1: *egotistical
ArPharazonV: Hephaestus and Aphrodite, eh... have we ever had a discussion where we compare the Valar with other pantheons? could make an interesting subject
VardaValar1: The Valar were a huge improvement over the other pantheons.
karakedi25: Tolkien had them to build on
VardaValar1: Aule and Yavanna did not cheat on each other and seem to have been a true pair.
Eonwe Valar: The Dwarves were essentially limited by Aulė's understanding of things. The History of MIddle-Earth of course goes into deeper discussion of this in several spots, examining the effects of a being created by a Vala and not Eru.
VardaValar1: Tolkien had a different set of ethics.
karakedi25: and he was a classicist as well as a Germanist
ArPharazonV: we'll save it for another time, wouldn't like to gloss over it in a tangent :-)
karakedi25: should be fun
VardaValar1: Yes, JRRT knew them well.
VardaValar1: And I was thankful that he didn't make them just like those others.
karakedi25: He was, after all, trying to make a mythology for England, not the northern Mediterranean
ArPharazonV: they seem somewhat more holy, angelic perhaps, compared to the classical pantheons
ArPharazonV: which might also fit with his "tiered" mythology of one God above others
karakedi25: they were created by a stand-in for the Judeo-Christian God
VardaValar1: Most pantheons had a boss male.
karakedi25: Iluvatar: all-father
VardaValar1: One Alone
karakedi25: That's Eru
VardaValar1: Eru Iluvatar
karakedi25: right
ArPharazonV: yes, but not necessarily one so far above the others, creating the others
VardaValar1: Er = one alone
ArPharazonV: sure, Zeus had a father, but he doesn't really stand up to Illuvatar in power or relation to his creations
Eonwe Valar: The "boss male" would be Manwė :}
ArPharazonV: Quite.
VardaValar1: What Eonwe said.
karakedi25: That's why Eru is more the Judeo-Christian God than classical or Norse
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
VardaValar1: The others seemed to kill off the creator.
karakedi25: Freud rides again!
ArPharazonV: which is what I like about Tolkien's mythology, the hybrid of monotheism and polytheism
Eonwe Valar: Zeus was, I think, I third-generation diety essentially.
ArPharazonV: it doesn't "pick one side" so to speak
karakedi25: and the presentation so that the non-pious can accept it
VardaValar1: Iluvatar = Father of All. (I am in agreement with Indis)
Eonwe Valar: Well, it says that there is Eru at the top, but that humans have worshipped the Valar as gods.
karakedi25: The One, the All-Father
VardaValar1: The people who followed Eru and the Valar weren't ostentatious about it, more in how they lived their lives.
VardaValar1: Aye, humans were a little confused - Morgoth helped with that.
karakedi25: yes, as far as I know, there was never a Church of Eru with his Valar as intercessories
VardaValar1: The Faithful
karakedi25: not quite the same thing
ArPharazonV: the Meneltarma....
karakedi25: not religious but more political
VardaValar1: Elbereth was the one listening to people.
Eonwe Valar: The Valar generally directed praise and worship to Eru so much as that happened.
karakedi25: yes, the Meneltarma was a place of spiritual power, but not a church, and the religion wasn't organized even in Numenor
Eonwe Valar: Reverence was given to the Valar as the Authorities of Arda.
VardaValar1: There was the structure in Numenor that Sauron defiled with his form of worship.
karakedi25: It was less belief in something supernatural than acceptance of how things were
karakedi25: Sauron built his own
karakedi25: walls of some unimaginable height
karakedi25: dome of silver soon defiled by smoke from the altars
VardaValar1: The form of religion was not made into something ostentatious, but it existed.
karakedi25: it wasn't religion as we know it, but more a knowledge of and belief in powers greater than those living in Middle Earth/Numenor
Eonwe Valar: I would describe it thus:
karakedi25: the Elves, after all, had had direct contact with the Valar, and many Elves visited Numenor from Tol Eressea
karakedi25: (at first)
ArPharazonV: anyway, I'm going to sleep, it's late, and I'll read the rest of this later in the week
AriehnV: its a bit too philosophical for me at this hour to be honest :-)
Eonwe Valar: There was an acknowledgement and worship of Eru. There was a realization that there was a certain way they were intended to live and treat each other, as is realized by both the Valar, and in the Third Age, by the Elves, and was taught to Men.
ArPharazonV: even though I always like a discussion about Numenor :-)
ArPharazonV: but it does seem rather tiered
ArPharazonV: Eru, Valar, Elves, Men
TulkasValar61: good night all..my freezer packs are losing their cool....so I must bid good night before my puter melts down
karakedi25: goodnight to those leaving
TulkasValar61 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well Tulkas :}
Eonwe Valar: We should probably go ahead and call it here anyway. It's 3 hours since meeting start.
ArPharazonV: saving and sending
VardaValar1: Thanks, Phar
karakedi25: good meeting, and thanks!
Eonwe Valar: *Bangs Gavel*
