VardaValar1: Web News:
VardaValar1: We've had a collection of stories from Jay of Lasgalen uploaded.
VardaValar1: 9 of them this week now online.
VardaValar1: Would anyone like them listed here?
fladrifv: I do :-)
ArPharazonV: sure :-)
VardaValar1: "Shelter from the Storm"
VardaValar1: "It Comes in Pints"
VardaValar1: "On the Eve of Battle"
betulamoon has left the room.
VardaValar1: "Oft Hope is Born, When All is Forlorn"
VardaValar1: "The Clouds Burst"
VardaValar1: I seem to be listing in reverse reading order, pardon.
VardaValar1: "Zirak-zigil"
VardaValar1: "What Was That?"
VardaValar1: "No Son of Mine"
VardaValar1: "A Wedding in the Greenwood"
VardaValar1: That's what we now have up. More coming, some quite long. These are mostly short, drabbles mostly.
ArPharazonV: hmm, nice ones
VardaValar1: Continued repair has been given to the art links, not finished with them all yet.
ArPharazonV: drabbles are 100 words right?
VardaValar1: Humor Site:
VardaValar1: Right, Phar
VardaValar1: Double drabble are 200, often the second 100 answers the first 100.
VardaValar1: I keep seeing something that says Gwaihir is typing, but see nothing come up.
GwaihirValar: I have a website currently in progress... its not ready to go up, but if all goes well this week it will be up in a sort of 'under construction' version.
GwaihirValar: hehe
GwaihirValar: I've been on and off
VardaValar1: What is it about?
GwaihirValar: its just a little game review site I've been wanting to do for a while for fun.
VardaValar1: Are you going to work it with Eonwe?
VardaValar1: Help out the Valar Guild Games Site?
GwaihirValar: Well, its a pet project a coworker of mine and I have been dabbling in. Gilraen's doing most of the actual webwork. I dunno if it'd really fit in with our game site, but I'd certainly be willing to colink it
VardaValar1: Ok. I hope you all know we have a Games site and that it could use some helpers for Eonwe.
VardaValar1: Eonwe is not able to be here today because he's at work.
VardaValar1: Drop him an email. He checks it quite regularly. : )
VardaValar1: We look forward to seeing what you have up, when it comes up, Gwaihir. :-)
GwaihirValar: Thank you :-)
VardaValar1: Humor Site:
VardaValar1: Fladrif has added a section:
VardaValar1: Things Ents are totally incapable of and why
VardaValar1: Enjoy!
VardaValar1: Any of you are able to add to any of the sections, or add new sections.
VardaValar1: Email me and between us we'll make it so!
VardaValar1: Also true of any part of the Tolkien or Games or Community sites that we have.
VardaValar1: This is your Valar Guild, and it will be as good as we input. : )
VardaValar1: Arien says hi, and she will be with us after this boss.
VardaValar1: Any further web news?
top

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: Any non-WoW, non-LotRO gaming?
ArPharazonV: Yes.
VardaValar1: Sauron and Gimli are doing D&D tabletop.
fladrifv: lots
VardaValar1: Phar, go ahead.
ArPharazonV: A new installment in the Monkey Island adventure series was released recently, called Tales of Monkey Island
ArPharazonV: a game in 5 chapters, created not by the original company but by an offshoot, with some of the original makers and voice-cast
fladrifv: http://www.telltalegames.com/monkeyisland is the link by the way
VardaValar1: Links help, thanks.
ArPharazonV: you can buy the 5 chapters seperately or somewhere in the future a collector's dvd I believe, though I think only the first chapter is out so far, but Fladrif knows more about that
fladrifv: I actually bought it
ArPharazonV: I've only done the demo so far, seems a bit heavy for my hardware at the moment but then I could use an upgrade anyway... and with some other applications shut down it should be allright
ArPharazonV: Fladrif has bought the first chapter at least that I know of :-)
fladrifv: and I can recommend it for the monkeyisland fans
VardaValar1: Your reviews are welcome on the Games Site, please type and email to Eonwe. Might grab most of it from these transcripts.
ArPharazonV: so now passing on the tale to Fladrif, who has played more of it than I have in any case :-)
ArPharazonV: take it away, Ent!
fladrifv: thankgs golden one
fladrifv: as I told on the humor page , exceptions break the rule...
fladrifv: I played the first chapter by now
fladrifv: and it will be one of the bigest monkeyislands ever
fladrifv: the new team has put in a very new and fresh type of humor, and lots of it :-)
fladrifv: to not give you any spoilers, if you liked the old ones you will like this one
fladrifv: to continue now Im on stage...hope the stage will survive it...
fladrifv: I continued the chess champion chip with round 2
VardaValar1: *strengthens stage*
fladrifv: and joined Betula in SL
fladrifv: thanks varda...it started to bend
fladrifv: they had a few reading sessions where people tell their storys to public
fladrifv: quite interesting
fladrifv: gets quickly off stage to not wreck it
VardaValar1: Can't wreck it with the Valar strengthening it. : )
VardaValar1: Thank you, Fladrif
VardaValar1: Fangorn and other family members played some StarCraft/BroodWar online.
VardaValar1: Did your SC/BW gaming ever get going as planned?
fladrifv: we didnt get it going unfortunate
fladrifv: some game called wow was in between it seems
ArPharazonV: :-)
ArPharazonV: there'll be more opportunities
GwaihirValar: I've heard of that game stopping a lot of tournaments in other games, I wonder if its any good ;-)
ArPharazonV: it's... okay, if you like wasting a few hours a day on a game that never goes anywhere!
ArPharazonV: but I love it anyway
GwaihirValar: hehe
fladrifv: I seriously doubt it gwai
VardaValar1: Eomer says he's bought WoW, so I suspect we may be seeing him less in LotRO as he tries out the shiny new toy.
VardaValar1: Are you still playing WoW, Gwaihir?
GwaihirValar: On and off, not nearly as much anymore. I've been playing a lot of ps3 stuff lately, which is how I'm gonna be able to review it ;-)
GwaihirValar: I've also been playing a fair bit of wc3 melee
VardaValar1: Playing it would help for reviewing, aye. : )

VardaValar1: I'm going to give Arien some time to get loose and start with WoW Americas
VardaValar1: Lothar:
VardaValar1: We've had leveling and crafting, more hitting level 80.
VardaValar1: That includes Uldaman, our main server currently.
VardaValar1: Phar, would you like to tell anything on WoW Europe?
ArPharazonV: hmm
ArPharazonV: I do remember seeing Arien online, though not often
VardaValar1: She's after some boss in WoW right now. : )
ArPharazonV: we were planning on planning a Drak'tharon instance run with one of her characters I believe, but I hadn't seen her since so it'll have to wait until this week
AriehnV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: And there she is. : )
fladrifv: Aiya
AriehnV: aiya all :-)
VardaValar1: ArPharazonV: we were planning on planning a Drak'tharon instance run with one of her characters I believe, but I hadn't seen her since so it'll have to wait until this week
ArPharazonV: non-Valar speaking, I just want to say that I finished my fishing achievements this week, fishing up the Dark Herring and 53 different coins in Dalaran, and am now walking around with the Salty title :-)
VardaValar1: Congrats, Phar! :-)
ArPharazonV: next goal: http://www.wowwiki.com/Insane_in_the_Membrane the Insane title!
GwaihirValar: I just don't have the patience for fishing hehe... so I stick to Loremaster/Crusader when it comes to title
ArPharazonV: that one's gonna be something...
AriehnV: aye i was on me lower alts but i am stil up for Drak Tharon
ArPharazonV: and now I'll be silent and let Arien continue :-)
ArPharazonV: Aiya, btw
AriehnV: :-)
AriehnV: i ve seen all of you guys in the valar channel and we chatted a bit as you know but i ve been mainly crafting on my new warrior and paladin (both dont have Tolkien names so wont be of interest but they are unguilded)
ArPharazonV: if you need a guild on AD, The High Guard welcomes friends :-)
AriehnV: else i ve been taking my druid to 75 :-) and got to the Drak tharon stage with Draukuru i think he is called
VardaValar1: We don't require Tolkien names, but we do require that the kin note show the primary name.
AriehnV: all right :-) Akidana is the paladin and Feriana the warrior (18 and 22 resopectively)
AriehnV: Anarienna is the deathknight , nelf , but i havent played jer ,much yet
AriehnV: else there is to mention that on Auchindoun i was with Helm and another gfuild member in Zul gurub and in three (Warlock, Deathknight and paladin) we killed three bosses
AriehnV: or four cant remember , for sure there the high priest Thekal , the raptor and the tiger boss
AriehnV: was fun :-)
AriehnV: thats it from me
VardaValar1: Thank you, Arien : )
ArPharazonV: Thekal was the tiger boss
ArPharazonV: *is
ArPharazonV: I've been killing a few of them myself every 3 days looking for the mounts :-)
AriehnV: ah right , oh we did the guy underneath the main guy the with the poisenous flutterers
AriehnV: in the tempel
AriehnV: temple
ArPharazonV: hmm... the one you summon from the water?
AriehnV: it was three lol we tried the top guy but 3 is too few even if overpowered ones lol
AriehnV: aye i think you have to gong to summon
GwaihirValar: panther is summoned by a gong
ArPharazonV: the gong? oh, that's the panther boss
ArPharazonV: right
ArPharazonV: Gahz'ranka is the hydra you summon from the water by throwing in a lure with mudskunks, long story
GwaihirValar: warriors used to be able to solo that at 70... and I suppose if they re-equipped the gear that made it possible, they still could lol
GwaihirValar: (panther I mean)
ArPharazonV: at 80 it should be a breeze then
GwaihirValar: well it was triggered by a set bonus
GwaihirValar: the only reason they could beat it
ArPharazonV: ah
GwaihirValar: lol
GwaihirValar: they'd gain absorption when they parried... so they'd never take damage ;-)
ArPharazonV: first time I went in there to solo stuff, I got everything except the bat boss and Hakkar himself
ArPharazonV: they both killed me
VardaValar1: ok, let's move on now.

VardaValar1: LotRO:
VardaValar1: Most of our people are gaming there.
VardaValar1: All of you are welcome to come in as well.
VardaValar1: The anniversary is over, with a reward for showing up of a passive trait making travel on a rent horse cheaper.
VardaValar1: The summer festival is going
karakedi25: potentially saving quite a bit of silver, btw
VardaValar1: A few of us were doing a summer festival crawl.
VardaValar1: Aye, Indis. Much happiness!
karakedi25: especially in Moria!
VardaValar1: The Monday turtle run went very well, smooth.
karakedi25: indeed--we're getting better
VardaValar1: New instances have been tried out, some of us have conquered many or all
VardaValar1: Bree-land area has been re-done
VardaValar1: Crafting crit items have been improved, old ones may be bartered in for them.
VardaValar1: I hope that we will be doing more instances together, but people need to remember that that is definitely not the whole game or even the largest part of it.
VardaValar1: We like to hit all aspects
VardaValar1: For instance, today some of us learned new dances and music, and did them together.
karakedi25: though kin runs in instances are a lot of fun (when they're not frustrating) *wink*
VardaValar1: We have seen a number of people express interest in joining us as full members, and I need to follow up on that.
VardaValar1: Any further business?
VardaValar1: Comments? Suggestions?
karakedi25: Good summary. Can't think of anything more of general interest about lotro.
VardaValar1: Thank you
AriehnV: i have played a bit Lotro as well on wednesday during the maintenance :-) and been a bit crafting and playing on me lowbie gCaptain
VardaValar1: Very good!
VardaValar1: You might enjoy some of the summer festival.
AriehnV: i ve seen Eonwe online at the time :-)
VardaValar1: The hobbit and dwarf races are new.
AriehnV: i ve got to go to Hobbiton i got the invite
AriehnV: might do that next week some time :-)
VardaValar1: Enjoy! : )
top

VardaValar1: On to Tolkien:
VardaValar1: The forum role-play for the last thread is complete, now that Menelvagor has made his post.
VardaValar1: Eonwe has started us on a new thread. : )
ArPharazonV: oh, he has? hmm, that's what happens when you don't check for a while..
VardaValar1: not
VardaValar1: started quite
VardaValar1: We are gettting ready to do:
VardaValar1: The Road to Rivendell
VardaValar1: We will be actually on the road when it begins.
VardaValar1: He'll be kicking it off.
ArPharazonV: allright
karakedi25: We're pretty much ready to go, waiting on our horses in the rain ;-)
ArPharazonV: about time I washed my hair
VardaValar1: We'll be on the road, already traveling.
VardaValar1: We need to try not to get bogged down in things like preparation posts, and other things that don't really move the story along.
VardaValar1: We've done enough preparing, I think we all agree. : )
karakedi25: Indeed
ArPharazonV: hey, I managed to get it into one short post this time, that's an improvement ;
ArPharazonV: ;-)
VardaValar1: Grats Phar : )
VardaValar1: Variety is good too. : )
VardaValar1: Did anyone have any Tolkien topics that they wanted to bring up, or suggestions for the next part of the rp?
karakedi25: Do we know yet what the next 'encounter' will be?
VardaValar1: or anything you'd especially like to see worked on for the Tolkien Site?
VardaValar1: We have a couple of possibilities.
VardaValar1: Phar has something planned, yes. : )
ArPharazonV: we've got an ambush coming up somewhere nearer the western edge, global stuff worked out but details will be spur of the moment
ArPharazonV: but we might see something along the road before then if Varda or Eonwe start something :-)  [Editor: and they did!]
VardaValar1: The main thing on the plot line is the ambush and the escape of the possessed brother to meet later in the ruins.
VardaValar1: Aye, we should be seeing some of the effects of the darkening that's happening.
VardaValar1: This will show what we are fighting, not just this one possession.
VardaValar1: Does anyone else have something they'd like to add?
karakedi25: spiders, goblins, and bats, oh my!
VardaValar1: hehehe

ArPharazonV: this week I met Beorn in my travels through The Hobbit :-)
VardaValar1: Very good!
ArPharazonV: the big man with the black hair and the tunic to his knees
VardaValar1: Beorn's area could be on our way as well.
ArPharazonV: and 4 white ponies who know wonders with dinner-plates...
ArPharazonV: *who do
VardaValar1: *wants those ponies and were-bears here to make supper - mmm honeycakes!*
ArPharazonV: oh yes, bees as big as your thumb in quite large gardens!
VardaValar1: My thumb's not all that big. hmm
ArPharazonV: big grey dogs who can stand on their hindpaws and carry things in their other paws!
ArPharazonV: he trained them well, hmm
VardaValar1: I wonder if some of those creatures wander over into Mirkwood at times.
ArPharazonV: they're probably happy in Beorn's household and would not gladly venture into the dangerous forest
VardaValar1: After they were given a part of the Greenwood after the War of the Ring, they certainly did get to increase their range.
ArPharazonV: that's true
VardaValar1: What you said is most probably true.
VardaValar1: If no one else has a comment, I need to go make supper, and can turn everyone loose for free chat. : )
VardaValar1: *bangs silvery gavel given by Elwing*
top

VardaValar1: After-meeting!
VardaValar1: Free chat about anything, or choose up games and go play!
ArPharazonV: you know, if we're really short for Tolkien topics..
VardaValar1: Merry is repairing Sauron's computer
VardaValar1: I mostly just need to go make supper. : )
ArPharazonV: we could always start with some book and go through one chapter every week, discussing it in the meeting
VardaValar1: Guests. : )
karakedi25: see you later Varda!
VardaValar1: I am just not pushing a topic
VardaValar1: And aye, Phar
VardaValar1: We had hoped to do something like that
ArPharazonV: it would set people reading in any case
VardaValar1: I also like the Tolkein Moment system, usually kicks off a discussion.
GwaihirValar: Enjoy dinner Varda :-)
ArPharazonV: enjoy
VardaValar1: Namarie!
AriehnV: enjoy Varda
AriehnV: Namarie
karakedi25: namarie
fladrifv: namarie varda
GwaihirValar: Pardon my long silence, I've been reading the chat while struggling to write a review of inFamous ;-)
GwaihirValar: almost done...
VardaValar1: Take care all. : )
ArPharazonV: Namarie
VardaValar1 has left the room.
fladrifv: why do some people spell namaarie with 3 a's?
fladrifv: is that a dialect or simply wrong :-)
ArPharazonV: typo
AriehnV: *nods*
fladrifv: not here but else no they keep on doing it
fladrifv: again and again
ArPharazonV: emphasis?
GwaihirValar: Ya, most people have a group of 4-5 typos that they make religiously, notice every time, but are COMPLETELY unable to correct
GwaihirValar: thats probably one of the ones for some people ;-)
ArPharazonV: hmm
fladrifv: interesting
ArPharazonV: a quick google finds an astonishing amount of results for Namaarie...
ArPharazonV: typo or not, it's widespread
GwaihirValar: hehe
ArPharazonV: it *might* be some variation but then I do not know its source
fladrifv: luthien says that the aa is not a combination possible in Quenya
karakedi25: I've never seen it in any other Quenya word.
ArPharazonV: well she would know more of it than I, in any case
fladrifv: sory just a side track
ArPharazonV: 's ok, aftermeeting
AriehnV: its ok that *namaarie* seems to be a hint on the pronounciation actually
AriehnV: indicating that the second a is pronounced a bit longer than the first .. so would be
fladrifv: butt..for dutch speakers goes automatically :-)
fladrifv: eh -t
ArPharazonV: hmm, I can think of several other pronounciations in Dutch for that word, Flad :-)
AriehnV: .. na ( short a) - maa (there u got the long a) - je
ArPharazonV: though they probably don't sound as right
ArPharazonV: *nod* I'm not sure what the English word for it is, but in Dutch it's called the klemtoon
fladrifv: for dutch according to pronounciation rules there is only namaarie :-)
fladrifv: stress?
ArPharazonV: could be
ArPharazonV: yes, it's stress  [Editor: For "namárië", the double a is an attempt to handle the diacritical mark that is not used in English so that it makes sense to them. ]

fladrifv: its ok you guessed brad and brend correct  [Editor: this is a conversation moving over from Second Life and MSN into AIM. Irish words are spelled multiple ways in English in an attempt to pronounce them, adding to the confusion, similar to the "namárië" problem.]
ArPharazonV: brand!
ArPharazonV: and bard
fladrifv: as I said...brand and bard
fladrifv: ....
GwaihirValar: lol
ArPharazonV: oh, right, sorry, sometimes I forget your dyslexia :-)
ArPharazonV: did I get Connaught right?
fladrifv: you did actually
fladrifv: but I was too slow with that one
fladrifv: or you
ArPharazonV: ah :-)
fladrifv: :-)
ArPharazonV: well, I had to look it up on the web!
fladrifv: hehe
fladrifv: I fear that the rest lost the clue totaly now
AriehnV: connaugh? thats an area in ireland lol
AriehnV: pronounced *Connacht*]
fladrifv: extra point for ariehn
ArPharazonV: yeah, there was some fantasy quiz in Second Life and Fladrif asked me for some help over msn
ArPharazonV: this was... queen Maeve's province I believe
fladrifv: aye
ArPharazonV: the webpage I found spelled it as Connaught
AriehnV: yup i ve seen that spelling as well
fladrifv: interesting person by the way
fladrifv: maeve
fladrifv: did a lot uhm wrong?
AriehnV: its been a while since i read the old irish myths
ArPharazonV: all I personally remember about the name Maeve is that she was the main villain in the Mystic Knights of Tir na nog
ArPharazonV: interesting show, haven't seen it in years....
AriehnV: tir nan og lol
ArPharazonV: na nog it was spelled in the show I think!
AriehnV: people always get it wrong \:d
karakedi25: ok, going to leave now--namarie
fladrifv: dont think that lol belongs there ariehn
ArPharazonV: namarie Indis
AriehnV: sorry
ArPharazonV: and yes, the show spells it as Tir Na Nog :-)
karakedi25 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mystic_Knights_of_Tir_Na_Nog
ArPharazonV: easiest way to describe it would probably be medieval Power Rangers :-)
AriehnV: in my oppinion it should be spelled the other way
fladrifv: lol
AriehnV: but then its irish geilge and not gaidhlig
AriehnV: and its older
AriehnV: so that might have been the right sjpelling then :-)
ArPharazonV: wouldn't know *shrug* ask Saban or whoever made the series
fladrifv: og
AriehnV: tir means *land*
AriehnV: and the *nan og * bit means of the young
fladrifv: aha palantir....vision land?
ArPharazonV: there's a difference between Elvish and Irish, Flad :-)
AriehnV: so *land of the young* its the genitive form
AriehnV: its like Valinor or similar to it i think if u want to compare it
AriehnV: ah well bed time for me here .. be well friends and safe travels
AriehnV: Namarie :-)
fladrifv: namarie Arien
AriehnV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: namaarie!
fladrifv: hehe
ArPharazonV: what, you know I had to do it :-)
fladrifv: :-)

pallandovalar has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiya Pallando
pallandovalar: aiya
fladrifv: Aiya
pallandovalar: missed meeting, am I right?
fladrifv: just a bit
ArPharazonV: pretty much, yes
ArPharazonV: aftermeeting, if you want to say something :-)
pallandovalar: well, that's because I had duty saturday. was up from 5am saturday to 8am sunday.
ArPharazonV: ouch
pallandovalar: meeting's at 3pm sunday my time
pallandovalar: so yeha
GwaihirValar: thats rough
pallandovalar: also, I have the same thing for the next 5 weeks.
pallandovalar: so don't get expectin me.
fladrifv has left the room.
fladrifv has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: saving and sending transcript
fladrifv: namarie arphar
