ArPharazonV: Aiya
Fladrifv: Aiya
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya
VardaValar1: Pardon, was watching a movie with Fangorn and type sneaked up.
VardaValar1: *time
Eonwe Valar: NP :}
ArPharazonV: Aiya both ;-)
ArPharazonV: *:-)
VardaValar1: Aiya :-)

Eonwe Valar: Elen Sila Lumenn Omentielvo!
Eonwe Valar: Menbership:
Eonwe Valar: Varda has membership news. Your floor, Varda.
VardaValar1: Thank you.
VardaValar1: April 2, Thorin-(V) joined us in LotRO as a Full Member.
VardaValar1: He's from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, 45, married.
VardaValar1: He's read the H, LotR, Sil, and Children of Hurin.
VardaValar1: He did quite well on the test, much fun.
VardaValar1: We also have a member as of yesterday as an initiate, as soon as he picks a name. :-)
VardaValar1: He has read the LotR, but had a tough time with the test and wants to re-read.
VardaValar1: He said we should have tested his wife or eldest son. :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: We have another initiate without a name staying at our house.
VardaValar1: He read LotR while in Iraq, a long-time family friend.
VardaValar1: Two friends just arrived at my house and Gimli-(V) is on his way. :-)
VardaValar1: They are about to play Warhammer with their armies with Sauron. : )
VardaValar1: That's my news.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Varda :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other Membership news?
Eonwe Valar: Phar or Fladrif?
ArPharazonV: hmm.. nope, sorry
Eonwe Valar: ok
top

Eonwe Valar: Web:
Eonwe Valar: Varda's added a new link to the Links page, under Computers.
VardaValar1: mainly to help gamers. :-)
Eonwe Valar: Links to NVidia and ATI pages.
VardaValar1: It's for updating drivers and other things to help speed up our computers.
VardaValar1: Valar Guild Meetingplace
VardaValar1: sorry, link didn't copy
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/links/links.html#Updates
Eonwe Valar: "Links added under Computers for updating drivers and other goodies from the manufacturers' own sites."
VardaValar1: Also the Intel support page with drivers, bios, what not
Eonwe Valar: Directly from the News page, link included :}
VardaValar1: yay
Eonwe Valar: Nothing for the Games Page going on except the continued background work, now taking into consideration the new server.
VardaValar1: The Story Site has undergone a great deal of link changing to stories and authors, so your bookmarks may need updating.
VardaValar1: Work was uploaded to both servers.
Eonwe Valar: Feel free to still send in game reviews, stories, poetry, articles/papers while we work though :}
VardaValar1: More stories are in the email, hope to be uploading them this week.
VardaValar1: We upload both places, just one extra step, np.

Eonwe Valar: Gaming News:
Eonwe Valar: Blizzard's annual April Fool's jokes of course came on you know when :}
VardaValar1: :-)
Eonwe Valar: There's a link to all 3 of them from Blizzard's main page: www.blizzard.com
ArPharazonV: there's 4
Eonwe Valar: Well, 4 if you count what they did to the forum.
ArPharazonV: US linked 3, Europe linked 3, with 2 overlaps
ArPharazonV: I'm not talking about the forum
Eonwe Valar: Ah yes, the "Pimp Your Mount"
ArPharazonV: yep
Eonwe Valar: So 4.
ArPharazonV: just thought I'd mention it :-)
Eonwe Valar: I'd forgotten that one wasn't in the list on the US page.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
ArPharazonV: yeah, the dance contest wasn't on the Europe page :-)
Eonwe Valar: WoW:
Eonwe Valar: Noblegarden has been delayed, so it won't be out with Easter this year, since the 3.1 patch won't be ready by this Tuesday.
Eonwe Valar: The Armor Manager they were working on for the 3.1 patch is also being delayed. It won't be ready with the 3.1 patch.
VardaValar1: hehe - dance battle system.
ArPharazonV: guess we'll have to stick with Itemrack for a while then
Eonwe Valar: Or nothing, for some of us :}
ArPharazonV: I'm a raiding feral with at least 3 sets of gear I need to switch between on a regular basis
ArPharazonV: I *need* Itemrack ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Hehe
Eonwe Valar: Lothar:
Eonwe Valar: Fangorn, Elwing, and Eowyn, were running together earlier in the week.
Eonwe Valar: I helped them with Scarlet Commander Abbendis yesterday before I had to go.
AriehnV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Arien : )
Eonwe Valar: Fangorn,Eowyn, and Bilbo I helped yesterday, that is.
AriehnV: Aiya there :-)
Eonwe Valar: My Protection Paladin has gained a couple more levels.
Eonwe Valar: Uldaman:
IWF519 has entered the room.
IWF519: Aiya Valarim
Eonwe Valar: Nothing to report from Uldaman this week.
VardaValar1: Aiya Eomer
VardaValar1: I have, Eonwe.
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead, Varda.
VardaValar1: Elwing was on with several characters. Fangorn and I missed her by a few minutes.
VardaValar1: We ran together as orc and troll starting into the Thousand Needles quests, much fun. : )
VardaValar1: End report.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
Eonwe Valar: LotRO:
Eonwe Valar: Varda helped me complete a smithing quest to move to my next tier of smithing.
VardaValar1: Must have our smiths!
Eonwe Valar: I also took a trip into the PvMP area for a look around, at level 40. Luckily it was late at night so only one MP thought it'd be fun to kill someone vastly under their level, hehe.
VardaValar1: o goody : )
Eonwe Valar: MP = Monster Player, for those who may not be familiar with the abbreviation.
IWF519: it is quite intense out there
AriehnV: *bows to EomerL*
Eonwe Valar: Any more to report from Landroval?
VardaValar1: Aye, we've been grouping in full 6-mans with Valarites to complete quests and books for some members.
VardaValar1: Eomer, would you like to tell any of our activities?
VardaValar1: Drowned Treasury yesterday, Eomer and I were both there. : )
IWF519: ./nods
VardaValar1: I think AIM may be experiencing some lag.
IWF519: were able to take care of some chain quests in Dol Dinen
VardaValar1: Aye, another spot where we ran a full group of us. : )
VardaValar1: We even had more Valarites wanting to come along than the party would hold. Very good.
VardaValar1: So we alternated, redoing some spots while the extra ran alongside.
IWF519: quite eventful
VardaValar1: It worked, as long as it was not an instance.
VardaValar1: Dragon-slaying :-)
VardaValar1: Pardon, ran in yonder to say hi to Gimli who just made it over to our house.
VardaValar1: LotRO has been very busy, love to see you all there, including Menelvagor. : )
VardaValar1: End report.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Varda.
Eonwe Valar: Anyone play anything besides WoW or LotRO this week?
VardaValar1: StarCraft/BroodWar by the Laytonrim.
VardaValar1: We had to go online to do it, funny goings-on with our LAN on Fangorn's computer.
VardaValar1: Some other games by family, sorry didn't catch.
VardaValar1: Bunch of people in our living room for Warhammer, armies at the ready.
VardaValar1: Includes Gimli and Sauron.
VardaValar1: Done here.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
Eonwe Valar: Anyone else?
ArPharazonV: Sauron's army is always something to watch out for
Fladrifv: more armadillorun!
Fladrifv: *grin*
ArPharazonV: thought you'd finished that already
ArPharazonV: or are you making new levels? :-)
Fladrifv: supports custom made levels
Fladrifv: so I have 294 levels to go now
Eonwe Valar: Cool.
Fladrifv: quite well spend 10 bucks
VardaValar1: Keep you busy til next week? : )
ArPharazonV: *grin* at least until Tuesday
Fladrifv: ent weeks yes
VardaValar1: hehe
Fladrifv: no im occupied with the game how to rebuild a notebook to media station
Eonwe Valar: :}
ArPharazonV: just keep adding hardware
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news before we move to Tolkien? Whisper Tolkien topics to me now.
ArPharazonV: like Eric Cartman's Trapper Keeper in South Park :-)
IWF519: Namarie all, just popping my head in to touch base
Fladrifv: namarie
Eonwe Valar: Take care Eomer :}
IWF519 has left the room.
Fladrifv: some humans do use cryptic names? is war uppon us?
VardaValar1: Eomer is heading back to LotRO, came online to speak to an old friend right quick and dropped by here.
Fladrifv: was more pointing to his name
VardaValar1: Aye, he had that name already before meeting us.
VardaValar1: Since we have other members with weirder names, I didn't worry about it.
ArPharazonV: hmm, who's MrMonkey2000blah again? :-)
Eonwe Valar: Bombur as I recall, but he declined my invitation to the channel.
VardaValar1: Aye, and same.
Fladrifv: sturdy dwarves...
ArPharazonV: reading through my list of names here, all sorts of interesting stuff shows up
Fladrifv: *looks around in fear for dwarves with nasty axes*
ArPharazonV: Dior's cantalope....
VardaValar1: You can edit a note on it
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Or pull up the Membership page and do a Find for the odd name.
Fladrifv: *casts: find odd name* results...none
VardaValar1: Someone will make it. : )
ArPharazonV: I have a TwoSurlyDwarves here without a note...
ArPharazonV: wonder who he is
VardaValar1: Fladrif, can you come up with a Tolkien Moment, maybe concerning Ents?
top

Eonwe Valar: Ok, Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: Now we're officially in Tolkien :}
VardaValar1: That's Beorn
ArPharazonV: thanks :-)
VardaValar1: He had to work on his self-employed business and pulled out of gaming for a time.
VardaValar1: He was hoping to come back when things settled a bit.
VardaValar1: Is he online?
ArPharazonV: nah, offline list
VardaValar1: okies, thanks
ArPharazonV: was just searching for funny names :-)
Fladrifv has left the room.
VardaValar1: and Fladrif crashed.
VardaValar1: To help come up with Tolkien topics, what do you think of starting near the beginning of the Fellowship and working our way to the end?
VardaValar1: It would naturally slip into Sil for background. : )
Fladrifv has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: it would start with Hobbits and the Shire
ArPharazonV: or in other words
Fladrifv: am I back?
ArPharazonV: "Concerning Hobbits"
ArPharazonV: and you're back
VardaValar1: Fladrif, just came up with a notion for you.
Eonwe Valar: You are.
VardaValar1: yes : )
VardaValar1: VardaValar1: To help come up with Tolkien topics, what do you think of starting near the beginning of the Fellowship and working our way to the end?
VardaValar1: I meant to the end of LotR. : )
Topic - Navigation in LotR:
Fladrifv: I had a tolkien topic
Fladrifv: but was maybe not accepted by Eonwe
VardaValar1: tom-toms? : )
Fladrifv: aye
VardaValar1: Well, there's a Tom Bombadil.
VardaValar1: Any other Toms?
Fladrifv: grin... no
VardaValar1: One in the troll poem.
Fladrifv: tom tom... satalite navigation
VardaValar1: Up came Tom with his big boots on.
ArPharazonV: was he in the song about the shinbone?
Eonwe Valar: Arg,...I have to say it.... Tom was a navigation service too :}
VardaValar1: Aye, Phar.
VardaValar1: Navigate what?
VardaValar1: Is it like a GPS?
Fladrifv: hehe that is how you would call gps with a proper name indeed
ArPharazonV: *nod* used in cars to tell you where you are and what route you have to take somewhere
ArPharazonV: to put it simply
Eonwe Valar: My above comment was a reference to Tom Bombadil, to ensure that was clear :}
VardaValar1: Sort of like a roadside assist, he was. : )
Fladrifv: far better one then existant now a days
ArPharazonV: *pictures a Tom-tom navigation system with Tom Bombadil's voice*
Eonwe Valar: Heya rind-ding dillo! Don't drive near that willow!
ArPharazonV: hehe
Eonwe Valar: *ring-ding
VardaValar1: Aragorn was another navigation device. : )
VardaValar1: hehe
Fladrifv: bit sturdy one
Fladrifv: had an own will
Fladrifv: but that is quite common for the normal ones aswell
AriehnV: Aragorn a navigation device .. i guess so a sort of
VardaValar1: Gollum was too, if a bit glitchy.
VardaValar1: Aragorn had shortcuts through the wild that didn't go wrong.
AriehnV: unstable to say the least about gollum
VardaValar1: short or long. : )
Eonwe Valar: The navigation devices Frodo had at his disposal were far superior to Tom-Tom :} His would protect him :}
Fladrifv: but they lacked updates on nazgul location
Eonwe Valar: i USE *DEVICES* THERE LOOSELY :}
Eonwe Valar: ack, pardon
ArPharazonV: or closed gates for that matter
Eonwe Valar: apparently I hit my caps in that quick series of alphanumeric characters.
Fladrifv: that was just a life saver
VardaValar1: If you feel dread or see them flying over, it's a clue.
ArPharazonV: I wonder how a Tom-Tom would work in the Marshes
Fladrifv: just accept it Eonwe you normaly type in breezer
Fladrifv: <--- just joking...
ArPharazonV: after passing the third bog to your left..
VardaValar1: Legolas could feel the bad guys nearby, shot a flying nazgul in the dark with just starlight, so he's a detection device.
Fladrifv: legolas was the radar
AriehnV: .early warning system
Eonwe Valar: Aye, the most powerful characters seem to not have very good means of "stealth"
Eonwe Valar: The Nazgul, Glorfindel,...
VardaValar1: Trying to instill fear means you need a high profile.
ArPharazonV: Mumakil...
VardaValar1: eheh
Fladrifv: if not the white old man wandering around
Eonwe Valar: Gandalf being in a human body seemed to be the best cover any of the powerful characters had, and he risked that every time he used his power.
VardaValar1: Gandalf racing around on a white horse, going directly to see the rulers.
VardaValar1: True, Eonwe.
VardaValar1: The Valar intended the Istari to not use much power but to mainly give advice so the people could learn to lead themselves.
Eonwe Valar: I'm recalling the scene on Caradhras where he lights the fire and says "There. Now at least I have spelled out 'Gandalf is here' to anyone able to read the signs for many leagues." or some such.
VardaValar1: Aye!
VardaValar1: No one could light a fire naturally, surpassed the skill of even their dwarf and elf who knew the wild, and their top level ranger.
Eonwe Valar: Gandalf escorting Frodo all the way to Mount Doom would've been troublesome, since there would've been many opportunities to spell out "Gandalf is here."
Eonwe Valar: Shelob being not amng the least of them.
ArPharazonV: which could be a lot more risky in Mordor than it was in the mountains :-)
Eonwe Valar: Aye :}
VardaValar1: That is something I've wondered about. What would it have been like if the Fellowship had turned out more as intended?
VardaValar1: Aragorn and Boromir would have gone to Minas Tirith if Gandalf remained.
VardaValar1: Gimli and the hobbits would surely have tried to go on.
VardaValar1: Legolas might have gone either way. What do you folks think?
VardaValar1: Guessing he would have stayed with Frodo.
ArPharazonV: I think Rohan might've been toast
VardaValar1: Why? : )
ArPharazonV: because Saruman was about to make his move, wasn't he, if the Fellowship hadn't visited there? :-)
ArPharazonV: what if Theoden wasn't freed from the spell in time?
ArPharazonV: of course I haven't read it in a while but I don't think the timelines were that different from the movie...
Fladrifv has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Saruman was probably close to making his move, aye.
VardaValar1: If Flad falls from the forest, we hear a ding.
Eonwe Valar: Wormtongue was delaying the mustering of the Rohirrim. Eomer was fighting orcs anyway.
ArPharazonV: Theodred was already dead by the time the Fellowship parted
VardaValar1: Gandalf could have avoided the balrog's whip catching him and escaped, but the balrog would have still been alive.
VardaValar1: He might have prevented the mess with Boromir?
VardaValar1: So we keep Boromir.
VardaValar1: They would have been glad Boromir was headed to Minas Tirith, and Aragorn would keep him going straight.
Eonwe Valar: Would the Balrog not have pursued them, or do you think he would've sat at home in Moria once they ran out its gates?
VardaValar1: Would Gandalf have been able to muster the ents, or would he have needed to take hobbits with him?
VardaValar1: The Balrog likely would have stayed, a hazard to any trying to go that way, as Smaug was intended to be.
VardaValar1: Blocking reinforcements that might help.
AriehnV: do u think Smaug was of Saurons doing?
ArPharazonV: did Gandalf know he had to muster the Ents? did he know what was going on in Rohan? Would he have abandoned the Hobbits for it?
VardaValar1: Good question though, maybe he would have pursued them just outside.
Eonwe Valar: If Gandalf was able to muster the Ents at all, he wouldn't need the Hobbits there.
Eonwe Valar: Merry and Pippin would've been baggage along the way.
Fladrifv has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Gandalf knew some of what was going on, came to warn Theoden, and would have found out pretty fast.
Fladrifv: back
VardaValar1: Welcome back. : )
Eonwe Valar: Welcome back :}
AriehnV: aiyata
Eonwe Valar: Aye, Gandalf knew what was going on in Rohan by that time.
VardaValar1: It's questionable that the ents would've gotten going in time.
Eonwe Valar: But he would have been with Frodo, so the Ents wouldn't get mustered.
AriehnV: he would ve learnt much during his short spray in the halls of eternety
Eonwe Valar: Don't forget, we already established that if all had gone right in the Fellowship, Gandalf would be heading towards Mordor, not Rohan :}
ArPharazonV: exactly, Eonwe!
VardaValar1: Aye
AriehnV: We know that the Valar needed him still and sent him back to do the job ..
ArPharazonV: so my question is, what would have happened to Rohan if that had happened?
VardaValar1: We were going with a what if Gandalf and Boromir hadn't been lost.
Eonwe Valar: Aragorn and Boromir might've passed through Rohan, but there's no guarantee they could've done much.
VardaValar1: Gandalf was quite a one for getting around on side missions
VardaValar1: but that was a lot to do.
Eonwe Valar: Or rather, they would've goen through Rohan, since it was safer than the alternative.
Eonwe Valar: *gone
VardaValar1: He might've had to catch up to Frodo.
Eonwe Valar: Gandalf would still be "the grey"
Eonwe Valar: Saruman would still be head of the Istari.
AriehnV: sarumans deception wouldnt have been discovered
VardaValar1: Maybe so, they could've taken a different route, but Frodo was ready to head straight to Mordor and let Aragorn and Boromir go the other way to Minas Tirith.
VardaValar1: Gandalf in Mordor, but less powerful.
ArPharazonV: anyway, I'll be off soon, gotta get up in the morning
AriehnV: ooh dont remind me ... lol in .. 5 hours
VardaValar1: Aragorn might've still met the Grey Company and taken the Paths of the Dead, but Theoden would still have been possessed.
VardaValar1: Namarie
VardaValar1: Eomer would still be in jail.
ArPharazonV: 6 and a half, Arien, but that's not a lot better :-)
VardaValar1: Namarie!
Eonwe Valar: Shall we bang the gavel here and let you two or three (if Fladrif needs it too) get some sleep then? :}
ArPharazonV: yeah, yeah, hang on, saving and sending first
VardaValar1: Gavel is a good idea.
AriehnV: Saruman would have continued plotting and mustering his secret army in treason and competiton to Sauron
ArPharazonV: and if Saruman would have attacked at any time while the others were occupied...
VardaValar1: Sauron would have used Saruman much longer.
ArPharazonV: I still think Rohan would be toast
VardaValar1: Phar, most likely. : )
Eonwe Valar: Saruman would've used Rohan as a buffer between himself and Sauron.
AriehnV: they were in between the forcers aye Eonwe indeed
Fladrifv: phar including cheese?
ArPharazonV: ....toast and cheese?
Fladrifv: aye
VardaValar1: Saruman was in a good position to help send forces against the north too.
Fladrifv: tastes best :-)
ArPharazonV: meh, don't like cheese, but to each his own
ArPharazonV: anyway, saving
VardaValar1 (5:41:05 PM): Thanks, Phar : )   [Note: Times in CDT, please add one hour for EDT.]
ArPharazonV (5:41:06 PM): saved
VardaValar1 (5:41:24 PM): Gandalf would not have saved Faramir.
AriehnV (5:41:44 PM): in the end all did go the way it had to that the Valar achieved their victory with the help of all parties , likely and unlikely ones concerned
ArPharazonV (5:41:55 PM): would Faramir have needed saving
ArPharazonV (5:41:58 PM): if Boromir was alive?
Eonwe Valar (5:42:03 PM): Perhaps with Gandalf meeting Faramir in Ithilien, Faramir wouldn't need saving.
VardaValar1 (5:42:06 PM): True
Fladrifv (5:42:26 PM): why didnt gandalf shoot the ring into mount doom
VardaValar1 (5:42:27 PM): Boromir would've been leading the main army and Faramir the guerrilla army as usual.
Fladrifv (5:42:31 PM): it was open on the top
VardaValar1 (5:42:48 PM): From where?
Fladrifv (5:42:53 PM): the shire
Fladrifv (5:42:54 PM): :)
VardaValar1 (5:43:09 PM): He was supposed to advise, not do all the work. : )
ArPharazonV (5:43:10 PM): how about a huge catapult? ;)
ArPharazonV (5:43:23 PM): or fly to it on an eagle!
VardaValar1 (5:43:26 PM): Wouldn't reach, sadly, but it's a great video.
Fladrifv (5:43:29 PM): he could include frodo in his shot
ArPharazonV (5:43:45 PM): hmm... we needed ninja wizards, really
VardaValar1 (5:43:57 PM): with laser beams coming out their eyes.
Fladrifv (5:44:12 PM): only a long distant thingy
Fladrifv (5:44:14 PM): nothing more :)
VardaValar1 (5:44:19 PM): The eagles are another thought, had the reach.
VardaValar1 (5:44:26 PM): So why were they not used? : )
Eonwe Valar (5:44:42 PM): *cough* Winged Nazgul *cough*
Fladrifv (5:44:45 PM): or why not fly the ring directly to manwe
VardaValar1 (5:44:46 PM): hehe
Fladrifv (5:44:58 PM): nazguls will not be able to come there
ArPharazonV (5:45:16 PM): the Ring had to be destroyed, Sauron was overrunning the place with or without it
VardaValar1 (5:45:21 PM): Aule could probably dismantle it. : )
ArPharazonV (5:45:25 PM): send away the Ring, and he'll win eventually
Eonwe Valar (5:45:25 PM): I think if an entire air force of Eagles came swarming over the Plains of Gorgoroth towards Mount Doom, Sauron would know somethign was up.
ArPharazonV (5:45:41 PM): destroy the Ring, and Mordor goes boom
VardaValar1 (5:46:07 PM): Once again, the Valar were trying to get the free peoples to learn to fight their own battles, not say let the Valar do it. : )
Eonwe Valar (5:46:14 PM): Aye :}
Fladrifv (5:46:41 PM): or they just lift mount doom out of middle earth
Fladrifv (5:46:46 PM): and transport it to valar
ArPharazonV (5:46:51 PM): that's...
Fladrifv (5:46:54 PM): eagles are strong
Eonwe Valar (5:46:56 PM): Another note, the Eagles of the First Age were representatives of Manwë. There's no reason to beleive this was rescinded in the Third Age. It's likely their actions were constrained to some extent by this connection.
VardaValar1 (5:47:04 PM): I agree.
ArPharazonV (5:47:07 PM): why not just lift away Baraddur?
ArPharazonV (5:47:13 PM): with Sauron's eye on top of it?
VardaValar1 (5:47:25 PM): eye /desktop
