VardaValar1: On to Web news
VardaValar1: The Tolkien Site Stories section had the activity this week.
VardaValar1: Branwyn-(TV) had 5 stories for Valentine's, mostly friendship.
VardaValar1: Bedazzled
VardaValar1: The Token of the Second Son
VardaValar1: Outlander
VardaValar1: Horse Sense
VardaValar1: Restoration
VardaValar1: Did the link come across with that?
VardaValar1: Two stories from Jay of Lasgalen:
VardaValar1: Greetings, Ori son of Gorin!

VardaValar1: Any other web news?

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: The biggest info is from Eonwe, about D&D. Go ahead, Eonwe.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
Eonwe Valar: Just thought I'd let those who don't already know, know that Gary Gygax, one of the creators of D&D, passed away a couple of weeks ago. Blizzard decided to dedicate the 2.4 patch to him.
Shaggyjoe: Oh, sorry to hear that.
Shaggyjoe: But thats cool that bliz is doing that.
VardaValar1: We had another loss as well.
VardaValar1: Fladrif, could you tell about that?
fladrifv: Arthur C Clarke has passed away aswell
Shaggyjoe: oh
fladrifv: for those who dont know him he was the inventor of the comunication satalite
VardaValar1: The idea of it. He was a famous Science Fiction writer.
Shaggyjoe: aye
fladrifv: indeed
VardaValar1: Most of you know the movie based on his "2001: A Space Odyssey"
VardaValar1: Did anyone play any games this week besides WoW or LotRO?
Eonwe Valar: That is a shame about Arthur C. Clarke.
AriehnV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: He was 90 and died a respected person, but I would have liked to see him last even longer. : )
ArPharazonV: I played a lot of Starcraft
VardaValar1: Aiya Arien, and Happy Easter
ArPharazonV: but all of it single player
AriehnV: Jesus is risen :-)
VardaValar1: Phar, how deep into the campaigns? We may be asking you for Lore reminders.
Eonwe Valar: Happy Easter Arien :}
ArPharazonV: made it through the Terran campaign and deep into the Zerg campaign
AriehnV: He is risen indeed
AriehnV: /
AriehnV: Happy easter all :-)
ArPharazonV: just about to make my first contact as the Zerg with the Dark Templar... level 8 of Zerg campaign, I think
ArPharazonV: hope to get about halfway into the protoss campaign next week, if not further
VardaValar1: Fladrif was on the phone or he'd probably tell us he played Chess. : )
ArPharazonV: hehe
VardaValar1: Any other games this past week?
ArPharazonV: speaking of Starcraft, I noticed today that the new Starcraft 2 movie has been released on the official websites
Glorfindel VG has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: introducing the Zerg, featuring some lore and some stunning fragments of gameplay... I already love the graphics of this game
VardaValar1: Happy Easter, Glorfindel. : )
ArPharazonV: I really recommend it
Glorfindel VG: Happy Easter to you
ArPharazonV: not sure if I like the new Kerrigan voice, though, but perhaps it's just getting used to
ArPharazonV: Happy Easter!
Eonwe Valar: Happy Easter Glorfindel :}
AriehnV: Happy Easter , Glorifindel :-)
VardaValar1: Glorfindel, did you get to play any non WoW or non LotRO this past week?
ArPharazonV: for the Europeans you can find it at http://eu.starcraft2.com/movies.xml the bottom one, can't view it directly and it's a 133mb download but I think it's worth it
ArPharazonV: and I'll shut up now :-)
Glorfindel VG: I played a bit of TF2 Varda
VardaValar1: Sorry, Phar. *puts salve on his accidentally stomped toes*
ArPharazonV: it's allright, I just tend to ramble on
VardaValar1: Sounds like interesting news though.
VardaValar1: Where did you play, Glorfindel?
VardaValar1: We have an official Valar channel and officially use East. Just hasn't been enough of us to make it obvious lately. : )
Glorfindel VG: no where in partucular
Glorfindel VG: just random servers
VardaValar1: On to WoW
VardaValar1: Argent Dawn, Arien, would you like to give a report?
AriehnV: there is a sort of repport
AriehnV: there has been no grouping as such
AriehnV: but i have seen Valandile and Menelvagor active the last few days and exchanged niceties with them
AriehnV: so Valandile keeps active crafting and managing his business :-)
VardaValar1: Does he ever come into AIM?
AriehnV: never
AriehnV: i dont even know whether he has it downloaded
ArPharazonV: I think he used to come in a few times in the past, so I'm sure he had it at some point...
AriehnV: i ll ask him but likely he is actually too busy to attend , i am not sure what he is doing in real life
VardaValar1: He was ValandilValar on AIM.
OrodrethV has entered the room.
Pallando Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aragorn also became too busy for WoW in Europe, probably why you don't see him.
ArPharazonV: Aiya Pallando, happy Easter
VardaValar1: Aiya Pallando! Happy Easter!
Pallando Valar: Aiya
AriehnV: aiya Pallando
VardaValar1: Has anyone seen Galadriel in Europe?
ArPharazonV: don't think so
AriehnV: No never, i added her on aim but never saw her yet
Eonwe Valar: Heya Pallando and Happy Easter :}
AriehnV: Pharazon here has been helping out the younger drood with some cash so she could train at lvl 68 and learn to fly :-)
VardaValar1: Very good!
AriehnV: ((she is one lvl more in the meantime bts ;-)_ )
AriehnV: so that was my activity, fairly catching up on Finduilaswen so she can take the 70 place
mordacil has entered the room.
AriehnV: some alts now and again as usual @:_
ArPharazonV: we also got your warrior into THG, or was that last week?
AriehnV: that is correct
ArPharazonV: young Ardanna
AriehnV: sweet 60 :-)
AriehnV: aye
AriehnV: Urwendi became Urwendita
AriehnV: small Urwndi :-) and Urwendi back
AriehnV: Phara, do you have anything to add>?
ArPharazonV: No, not valar-wise, actually, all I've done in WoW this week is lots of battlegrounds for alliance or silverwing reputation, and one Zul'Aman... nothing guildrelated
AriehnV: so thus endeth our reporgt
AriehnV: report
ArPharazonV: it... doeth!
VardaValar1: Uldaman report from Elwing:
VardaValar1: I got in Uldaman awhile Wed - chatted very briefly with Nnanaeve - she says the family guild is thriving if small :-)
VardaValar1: I got my hunter there (RoseRedDawn) up to level 40 - my high one in that realm - now she can wear mail and (if ever wealthy enough) get a ride-a-bird.
VardaValar1: end report.
VardaValar1: The person mentioned was Theodwyn-V
VardaValar1: Lothar, Eonwe, would you like to take that report?
Eonwe Valar: Sure.
Eonwe Valar: Mostly it's been collecting flying mounts and epic flying mounts.
Eonwe Valar: I did hoever earlier in the week manage to get a few moments of relax time in, and managed to join Bilbo and Sauron to slay a rare spawn dragon near Ogri'la.
Eonwe Valar: There were two others, of course :} And we brought the dragon down.
Eonwe Valar: That about covers everything.
VardaValar1: Thank you Eonwe!
Eonwe Valar: MP.
VardaValar1: LotRO is a busy place and we are about to start a Rift raid right now.
VardaValar1: Therefore I am turning over the gavel to the esteemed Eonwe. So you are in excellent hands.
Eonwe Valar: *receives gavel*
Eonwe Valar: Ok, I think we've covered everything to mention in gaming. Everyone knows about the LotRO expansion?
AriehnV: i heard about it now .. but when does it come out?
Eonwe Valar: They're saying fall 2008.
VardaValar1: maybe even in a couple of weeks : )
Eonwe Valar: Considering Blizzard's schedule of announcing stuff about a year and a half before it comes out, same year as announcement seems a bit soon :}
AriehnV: hehe sounds about right
VardaValar1: I am going afk now for the raid.
Eonwe Valar: Have fun :}
Eonwe Valar: As long as Turbine does well on the expansion, no worries :}
Eonwe Valar: Ok, shall we move on to Tolkien? Give whisper me topics :}
Eonwe Valar: Whisper rather. subtract give.
Eonwe Valar: Fladrif mentions his art site is now online.
fladrifv: http://www.sphericalvisions.se/
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: See anything you don't like, blame Fladrif :}
fladrifv: you can always blame a tree for standing there :-)
ArPharazonV: *starts looking for things to complain about*
ArPharazonV: I think you need a . after "Welcome to our brand new site" !
ArPharazonV: or maybe not...
VardaValar1: Namarie for now. :-) Hi from Ancalagon, Ulmo, and Amroth and Dis in the raid. : )
Glorfindel VG: very cool
fladrifv: namarie varda
VardaValar1 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Ok, let's start Tolkien chat off with this:
top

Eonwe Valar: Tolkien Chat:
Eonwe Valar: Today is March 23rd. What do we know about that day in Middle-Earth history?
AriehnV: the beginning of the fourn age or near enough
AriehnV: 25th march was the exact date
Eonwe Valar: Heya Aerendir and Happy Easter :}
Eonwe Valar: So what happened the 23rd? Did it have any bearing on the change to the Fourth Age? Or was it just "Frodo and Sam lounged around in bed" :}
ArPharazonV: "The Host passes out of Ithilien. Aragorn dismisses the faint-hearted. Frodo and Samwise cast away their arms and gear."
ArPharazonV: source: Appendix B
Eonwe Valar: So the Army of the West was on the march.
ArPharazonV: yep, and pretty far too
ArPharazonV: they'd already crossed the river, set fire to the vale of Minas Morgul if I recall, and already rounding the northwest corner of Mordor
Eonwe Valar: Minas Morgul was further south.
AriehnV: and the host was announced with Aragorn as Lord the West , King Elessar at every crossroad to make Sauron think
AriehnV: and anger i guess .. nice nut to crack , distraction tactics
Eonwe Valar: Aye.
Eonwe Valar: Anything on this day matter in the scheme of things, or just dtuff leading up to the big stuff?
ArPharazonV: I'm sure that the stuff leading up to the big stuff was vital for the big stuff, so...
Eonwe Valar: You mean the big stuff doesn't just happen? :}
ArPharazonV: what would have happened without the events of this day? what if Frodo and Sam hadn't cast off their gear, would they still have made it in time?
ArPharazonV: what if Aragorn had not dismissed the faint-hearted?
Eonwe Valar: What did "the faint-hearted" do when dismissed?
Glorfindel VG has left the room.
ArathornValar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Everyone looking it up now? :}
ArPharazonV: yup
Eonwe Valar: Some of the faint-hearted found new resolve to press on and fight.
Eonwe Valar: Others, Aragorn had given a different assignment, and seeing something they thought they felt they were strong enough to do, they left to do that.
ArPharazonV: *nod*
Eonwe Valar: er, translate that "they thought they felt" to something that makes sense.
ArPharazonV: it can fit, though probably with different meaning than you intend...
Eonwe Valar: Or you can pick one and it'll work with just one :}
ArPharazonV: hehe
AriehnV: *Take the road souith west and retake Cair Andros, if that is still held by the enemy&*#
Eonwe Valar: Ok, now for a somewhat more interesting question:
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Arien :}
Eonwe Valar: What can we draw from this about the characters of those involved?
Eonwe Valar: Everyone has the book facts in front of them, so anyone can jump in now :}
Eonwe Valar: Well, for one, Aragorn seems like a nice guy. He's not taking a whip to his men despite them being a bit scared.
ArPharazonV: about Aragorn, we can see he knew his men, did not take their courage for granted, and knowing that this would likely be their last battle, granted them a way out
ArPharazonV: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Aye Phar.
Eonwe Valar: Saron, on the other hand, would've beat the orcs into marching. It would've been a choice of fears for Sauron's servants: either fear of dying at the hands of the enemy, or fear of what Sauron would do to you if you didn't fight.
AriehnV: oy aye , but by this action he gave them a second chance , so they would not be shamed .. in the light of others and themselves
ArPharazonV: don't see Sauron talking to the Orcs, saying.. well, this is a dangerous battle, many of you might die, so if you want, you can stay here and do some less dangerous stuff like whipping around some slaves at Nurnen
Eonwe Valar: *Sauron
Eonwe Valar: Aye, both Phar and Arien.
Eonwe Valar: "a task they were up to" or something I think it's put as in the books.
AriehnV: and less dangerous .. *hold it to the last for the defense of Gondor and rohan* I am sure Aragorn didnt mean that they could build huts and slleep
ArPharazonV: no, of course, but the possibility of coming out of it alive would seem a bit larger from that point :-)
ArPharazonV: or at least, dying somewhat later
AriehnV: well dying one day sooner or later hardly matters ;_
ArPharazonV: could be weeks, could be months... could be time to pick up the wife and kids and move to another country
ArPharazonV: and the book talks about "a manful deed within their measure that they could turn to", Eonwe
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
ArPharazonV: anyway, there's a strong contrast between Aragorn and Sauron quite apparent there... one rules by respect and honor, the other by fear
AriehnV: well if that battle in front of the gates had been lost , there hardly would have been more then a few days .. but your quote states as what i see it actually
ArPharazonV: besides, Ariehn, everyone dies sooner or later... in a way, life is all about postponing the inevitable, isn't it?
AriehnV: indeed
Eonwe Valar: For the southern fiefs of Gondor there might've been more time as Sauron focused on military/more strategic targets.
AriehnV: food rich areas, areas with ports and steeds
AriehnV: areas rich in raw materials for the production of armor and weaponry
Eonwe Valar: The point of it was the mercy and the second chance though. No one actually went home it seems.Some overcame their fear, and some went to deal with this new task.
AriehnV: Yep , Aragorn gave them a second chance and showed them mercy .. so very fitting in the easter time
AriehnV: i wonder whether J. R. R. placed it intientionally in calendar time?
ArPharazonV: not to be offensive, really, and I like Easter... for the eggs and the rabbits etc... but as an atheist I would appreciate it if we could leave the whole Jesus thing out of the discussion...
Eonwe Valar: It says in that section that Mordor and Sauron were little more than a legend where they lived, and now they were marching to war against him.
AriehnV: all rightr
Eonwe Valar: The point of Easter is that Jesus rose from the grave, Phar. No getting around that.
Eonwe Valar: Just like the point of Christmas is that jesus was born.
ArPharazonV: I know that, but if we could avoid dragging it into Tolkien, I'd prefer that
Eonwe Valar: I don't see it mentioned in the Tolkien discussion here anywhere.
ArPharazonV: as far as my beliefs are concerned he died a few days before Easter and the rest is just story.. well, the whole symbolism, the whole "fitting in the easter time"...
ArPharazonV: it just crosses the line a bit too much for my taste
AriehnV: well now ye start the discussion :-) so lets stay wilth tolkien
ArPharazonV: yes, let's
Eonwe Valar: Well, Tolkien was a Christian, so themes prevalent in his Christian beliefs are bound to be seen in his works.,
ArPharazonV: true, but I'm not sure if the whole end of March thing was a reference in any way
ArPharazonV: and if I recall he tried to distance himself from referencing any particular religion in his work
ArPharazonV: avoiding analogy
Eonwe Valar: He avoided Allegory.
ArPharazonV: right, that
ArPharazonV: wasn't sure about the word
Eonwe Valar: I.E Aragorn and Frodo are not Jesus.
Eonwe Valar: That's different.
Eonwe Valar: But becaus ehe doesn't name a certain religion doesn't mean that he didn't introduce certain truths that he saw as "universal."
ArPharazonV: of course, of course, but as I said, the Calendar, end of March, Easter...
fladrifv has left the room.
fladrifv has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: I picked March 23rd as the discussion because it was March 23rd, not because it was Easter, aye.
ArPharazonV: I know the truth isn't always what one hopes it is, but I do hope he tried to avoid such... connections, for lack of a better word
ArPharazonV: anyway, forget I said anything
AriehnV: i couldnt help seeing the analogy here and if i have offended andyone and sparked of a controversy i appologize
Eonwe Valar: In Catholic tradition Easter jumps around from year to year, so unless we were to go back to the years Tolkien was writing this and find a correlation between when events happened and when Easter was, yeah, Id' say not necessarily a
Eonwe Valar: *any correlation there.
ArPharazonV: don't worry about it, it just erks me to see something like that... it's just me, Arien
Eonwe Valar: As far as it goes, I don't want to stifle discussion of Tolkien's beliefs as they relate to his works.
Eonwe Valar: I believe you can discuss them without trying to convert someone, heh.
AriehnV: it was not meant as a means to convet someone ... it was an observation
ArPharazonV: no, no, it's allright, I shouldn't have said anything, I'll try to keep such thoughts to myself from here on
Eonwe Valar: Aye, I understand that, Arien. That last part was not a comment on your comment.
AriehnV: so will i
AriehnV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Anything else we can add to the Tolkien discussion?
ArPharazonV: I didn't... drive her away, did I?
ArPharazonV: bah, I feel horrible
Eonwe Valar: I don't know. I'd like to think not, but I can't speak for her.
Eonwe Valar: I'm not so sure my last comment helped, though I explained it wasn't directed at her.
ArPharazonV: I think I pretty much killed it. I'll save and send, and go do something else. I shouldn't be here right now, I think.
AriehnV has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Welcome back Arien.
Eonwe Valar: Get dropped?
AriehnV: aye .. connecton problems
Eonwe Valar: Glad to hear. Afraid you might've just up and left.
ArPharazonV: anyway, there's more happening that day! Like Frodo and Sam casting away their gear...
ArPharazonV: looking up the scene in the book, it's a few pages into the chapter Mount Doom
Eonwe Valar: Anything we can gather from that besides the armor was heavy?
ArPharazonV: well, there are some touching moments in the book when Sam hesitates to throw away his cooking gear, and reflects on memories of rabbit and adventures in Ithilien
ArPharazonV: and Frodo comments that he cannot remember them... he knows they've happened, but he can't see them.
ArPharazonV: "No taste of food, no feel of water, no sound of wind, no memory of tree or grass or flower, no image of moon or star are left to me. I'm naked in the dark, Sam, and there is no veil between me and the wheel of fire.
ArPharazonV: I begin to see it even with my walking eyes, and all else fades."
ArPharazonV: really a good measure of how far gone Frodo is, how deep the Ring has taken him.. one wonders how many more days he would be able to hang on
ArPharazonV: in the end, all Sam kept was what they had left of nourishment, Sting, and their gifts from Galadriel.. while throwing all else in a great fissure to prevent it falling into the hands of Gollum or one of Sauron's servants
ArPharazonV: it seems typical of human nature to risk your lives for a good cause and yet feel so much grief from the discarding of material objects that have become dear to you...
ArPharazonV: ehrm... anyone else care to comment?
Eonwe Valar: I don't know about typical.
Eonwe Valar: I've known/seen plenty of people who wouldn't risk themselves for a good cause, though I'd say most aspire to.
Eonwe Valar: *most of humanity, not most of the group I discuss.
Eonwe Valar: I'd point back to "the fainthearted" for in-Tolkien reference.
ArPharazonV: true, true
Eonwe Valar: Many of them would've told you any other day they'd fight tooth and nail for a good cause. They are presented with the greatest cause of their time, and some are not up to the task.
AriehnV: well Frodo didnt feel up to the task when he left
Eonwe Valar: Aye, he didn't, but he did it anyway.
AriehnV: .but despite that he did it ..
AriehnV: hehe * whats that cardgame when you snhout something hen you put down two cards at trhe same time*
AriehnV: you know what i mean ;-)
ArPharazonV: I'm thinking, but not sure...
Eonwe Valar: slapjack?
Eonwe Valar: war?
AriehnV: Snap ..
AriehnV: thats it :-)
Eonwe Valar: hmm, actually, in war you don't yell anything out..
ArPharazonV: snap, hmm...
Eonwe Valar: slapjack is the one that comes to mind.
Eonwe Valar: oh wait, not that one either..
Eonwe Valar: Arg, it's been so long since I've played any card games.
AriehnV: ssomething like that .. i think the aim is to put down a card faster than tany other playee
AriehnV: it has become proverbial for things two people want to say, that is the same thing but the other person was faster
Eonwe Valar: In the US, if two people say the same thing at the same time, one usually tries to say "jinx" before the other... though that usually only goes for kids.
AriehnV: Sam was like that in a way too i mean not fit for the task .. and he knew it bvut , as he said *he had to see it through*
Eonwe Valar: Then the other can't say anything until someone says their name, heh. Loads of fun for kids.
Eonwe Valar: True.
AriehnV: other people like that in Lotr who spring to mind?
Eonwe Valar: If memory serves, Aragorn had some misgivings about stepping in for Gandalf after Moria, but generally I'd say he was a capable leader and knew it.
ArPharazonV: Faramir had to fill his brother's shoes after Boromir was dead, and did whatever it took to fall in good grace with his father, even if he didn't like it...
ArPharazonV: in a way, he was he like that... had to do stuff his brother would have done
Eonwe Valar: Faramir was pretty sure of himself though.
ArPharazonV: sure, but not of the things he was doing
ArPharazonV: or the things his father had him do
AriehnV: and in a way he knew he could not live up to 'Boromir
ArPharazonV: aye, at least in his father's eyes, but I think in his own eyes also
AriehnV: not like his father would see it ..
Eonwe Valar: I don't know. I think Faramir's main complaints were with his father and with the tactics his father wished to employ.
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: I think his argument with retaking Osgiliath was not that he wasn't sure of his ability, it was that he knew it couldn't be taken back with what he had.
AriehnV: But didnt Faramir have a lost place to start with?
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: Heya Menel and Happy Easter.
ArPharazonV: Aiya Menelvagor
AriehnV: oi :-)
ArPharazonV: been a while, hasn't it!
Eonwe Valar: We're discussing this day in Middle-Earth :}
Menelvagor Valar: Too long indeed.
AriehnV: the later the evening the more beautiful the guests :-)
Menelvagor Valar: depends on how close to me you are Arien :-)
Eonwe Valar: That reminds me of a phrase..
Menelvagor Valar: But I guess that does not matter much to you shiny lady *grin*
AriehnV: *grin*
Eonwe Valar: Something about "Be who you are something something, because though who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."
ArPharazonV: well said!
Menelvagor Valar: That is true without a shadow of a doubt.
Eonwe Valar: The exact phrasing manages to escape me right now.
Eonwe Valar: well, of the first part, I know the second part is correct :}
Eonwe Valar: If a friend can't accept you for who you are, shame on them.
Menelvagor Valar: Those who matter don't mind and those who don't mind do matter :P
Eonwe Valar: And if you can't accept a friend for who he or she is, shame on you :}
Menelvagor Valar: About the phrasing not being entirely correct that is :-D
AriehnV: Ah well , wise one, well said , master Eonwe
AriehnV: We are who we are in our diversity and under father tolkien we are one :-)
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, I recall it being a little rhyme, with "mind" being the word to rhyme with.
AriehnV: thats the beauty of it
Eonwe Valar: anyway, we were discussing, most immediately, characters who were unsure of themselves, but carried out what they knew to be right anyway.
ArPharazonV: I guess Faramir was the opposite of that, actually...
Menelvagor Valar: btw, can I squeeze in a bit of membership news into this tolkien part which I have so graciously overturned? :-)
Eonwe Valar: Frodo and Sam seem to be the prime examples. Frodo was unsure he could fullfill his task, but went through with it anyway.
ArPharazonV: he was sure of himself but wasn't sure what he was doing was what he should be doing
Eonwe Valar: Sam "had to see something through."
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead Menel :}
Menelvagor Valar: It was my 25th + 2 birthday yesterday (or day before depending on time zone *grin*)
Eonwe Valar: So you're 25 now? :}
AriehnV: grats mate :-D *hugs*
Eonwe Valar: Happy Birthday :}
Menelvagor Valar: No, 25 + 2 Eonwe :P
Eonwe Valar: Ok, thought that +2 was days :}
Menelvagor Valar: I decided to stop counting at 25 two days ago :P
ArPharazonV: haha
Eonwe Valar: I thought you might've been a whipper-snapper compared to me in that case :}
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Menelvagor Valar: Though I think in half a year I am going to change that to 27.5 just for annoyance :-D
Eonwe Valar: I thought only women were allowed to arbitrarily stop aging after a certain year? :}
ArPharazonV: so in 3 years you'll be 27.5 + 0.5 years old?
ArPharazonV: that *could* get annoying...
Menelvagor Valar: in a year I will be 27.5 + 0.5 years young Pharzie :P
ArPharazonV: pff
Menelvagor Valar: *grin*
ArPharazonV: I"m 22, you're 25+2.. compared to me, you're old
ArPharazonV: it's all about perception :-)
Eonwe Valar: If you're going to stop counting now, I'd pick it back up after 100 when it'll be impressive :}
AriehnV: and me a granny at 38 ... where s my stick ..
Eonwe Valar: If you still remember your age at that point :}
Menelvagor Valar: hihi eonwe :-)
Menelvagor Valar: after a hundred it'll be hard counting... that's 27.5 + 27.5 + 27.5 + 12.5 and counting.. annoying.
Menelvagor Valar: I love it :P
Menelvagor Valar: err... 17.5 even :P
ArPharazonV: wonder if you'll still love it when you're over 100 ;-)
Eonwe Valar: I see, so you're going to measure your age in the base 27.5 number system :}
AriehnV: lol .. me and numbers that was a natural polarisation
Menelvagor Valar: I love to be an annoying bastard :-D
ArPharazonV: that's not good, Arien! Being the sun you need a lot of mathematics, to calculate your orbit etc...
Menelvagor Valar: always better than a depolarisation *grin*
AriehnV: ah you see thats why i cant keep up my pace with Silpion
AriehnV: sometiemes faster and sometimes slower
Eonwe Valar: Or,.. she chould just have a string tied to the center of the universe and always walk with the string tight :}
Eonwe Valar: *chould = could
AriehnV: so you get the diffrerent lenghts in months ;O
AriehnV: not to mention the stupid extra day every four years
Eonwe Valar: No, blame that on calendar makers :} Hobits have a perfect 30-day month system, with about 6 days outside of the months.
Eonwe Valar: *Hobbits
AriehnV: sounds reasonable to me
Eonwe Valar: Er, forgot about Overlithe, nevermind, heh.
ArPharazonV: where does the difference between winter and summer come from, then? do you spend more and less time up above the world, or do you just orbit closer?
Eonwe Valar: afk for a moment.
AriehnV: hmm ... thats when sil is closing in .. and holds the end of my oat
AriehnV: boat]
AriehnV: waggon sorry
ArPharazonV: well that's not very nice!
AriehnV: he is a boy .. what do ye expect ;-)
AriehnV: ((btw on another server i ve got a small hunter , Arrien , and her pet is caled Silpion *grin* i wonder how he would like that ))
Eonwe Valar: back
ArPharazonV: haha
ArPharazonV: do we have a Silpion, anyway?
Eonwe Valar: One sec
Eonwe Valar: We do have a Tilion still with us, yes.
Eonwe Valar: Seems he dates back from 98 too.
Eonwe Valar: Shall we call int Aftermeeting, let those who want to leave do so and those who want to chat do so as well?
AriehnV: might as well Eonwe :-)
Eonwe Valar: Ok :}
Eonwe Valar: *Winds up with gavel*
AriehnV: I dont know who is herwe still anyway besides us
Eonwe Valar: *Bangs gavel*
top

Eonwe Valar: Aftermeeting :}
Eonwe Valar: Free chat :} Talk about whatever :}
Menelvagor Valar: hehe :-)
Eonwe Valar: Could even talk more about the Tolkien topic if you want :}
Menelvagor Valar: I'm sorry I crashed the Tolkien part :-D
ArPharazonV: I believe Varda mentioned earlier asking me for some lore of Starcraft or something?
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, I missed that if she did.
ArPharazonV: VardaValar1: Phar, how deep into the campaigns? We may be asking you for Lore reminders.
Eonwe Valar: Ah
ArPharazonV: hmm.... guess she had none in particular in mind
Eonwe Valar: Protoss Expansion mission has best end movie.
ArPharazonV: I'm not that far yet :P
ArPharazonV: I'm sure I've seen it at one point, as this isn't my first time playing...
Menelvagor Valar: SC: BW?
ArPharazonV: but can't remember what it was all about
Menelvagor Valar: Definitely Protss aye.
Eonwe Valar: Actually, I'd say protoss pretty well have the best end movies in the original and the expansion.
Menelvagor Valar: hmm...
Menelvagor Valar: It's been a while ago for me...
Eonwe Valar: Been a while as well, getting tempted to pop in discs to watch the movies again.
Menelvagor Valar: Is the original or the expansion the one where Tassadar crashes a Carrier into Azjur to kill the Zerg Overmind?
ArPharazonV: are they like the warcraft 3 movies, viewable outside the game?
ArPharazonV: that's the original
Eonwe Valar: Original, and Aiur :}
Eonwe Valar: Like Ainur without the 'n' :}
Menelvagor Valar: ah yes.
Menelvagor Valar: But I believe the pronunciation correct.
Eonwe Valar: Not according to the English dub, which being the original I'd go with :}
AriehnV: hmm if i remember correctly its some pirates taking over a colony in space
Eonwe Valar: All zealots pronounce Aiur like "ainur" without the 'n', i.e. "Aye-ur"
AriehnV: interesting ...
ArPharazonV: my life for Aiur...
AriehnV: alas ... ai uur sounds like the geran Eier :-) or almost
ArPharazonV: actually, I just started the level before which the Overmind says he located the secret location of Aiur from Zeratul when he made contact...
ArPharazonV: I want to listen now how the Overmind pronounces it :P
Menelvagor Valar: As I said, it's been a while, at least 5 years, so my memory may be a bit tumbled :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: NP Menel :}
Eonwe Valar: Pobody's nerfect :}
mordacil: everywhere Ive heard, its aye-ur
AriehnV: i ve installed them only recently and watched the movies but i cant remeber names
mordacil: mainly what the zealots say over and over
fladrifv: my life for...
ArPharazonV: yep, the Overmind says aye-ur too
fladrifv: nice 20% more speed by forcing to use only one core....long live dual core... :-(
Eonwe Valar: hmm?
Eonwe Valar: That with Starcraft?
Eonwe Valar: Or WoW?
fladrifv: rendering :-)
fladrifv: with starcraft my comp hangs without locking to one core
Eonwe Valar: Rendering *should* be on your graphics card, unless you have integrated graphics..
mordacil: wondering for a costume...would rangers look better with a longbow or shortbow?
Eonwe Valar: Personal preference: Longbow.
Menelvagor Valar: personal preference: longbow.
Menelvagor Valar: unless they're dwarfs, then I'd say guns.
Eonwe Valar: Shortbow would probably be easier to carry though, and easier to fire on horseback unless you're trained to use longbows on horseback.
fladrifv: rendering on graphic card? that is only for prerenders :-)
fladrifv: longbow looks better :-)
Eonwe Valar: What's the point of having your monitor hooked directly into your graphics card if it has to send all the work back to the processors anyway?
mordacil: i wont be riding horses, just making a fantasy adventurer costume for the renfair, with a backscabbard and a long coat, I like rangers so its kinda been turning into one
Eonwe Valar: If it's for looks, longbow.
Menelvagor Valar: Plus, a good longbow can double as a quarterstaff when unstrung :-D
mordacil: you see in moview where they pull the bow out already strung. where do they keep them and how do they keep them there?
Eonwe Valar: I've kinda wondered for the last couple of months if the wood used for a bow and the shape of the bow itself would actually allow for close quarters combat in that fashion.
mordacil: im looking to see if theres some kind of holster or clip mechanism
ArPharazonV: everyone knows bows just cling to your back for no reason
ArPharazonV: like in WoW!
Menelvagor Valar: well, archers would generally keep their bows unstrung, because their strings will get ruined fairly fast in damp or wet weather.
Menelvagor Valar: bows...?
Menelvagor Valar: what are those?
Menelvagor Valar: <- druid, shammy, priest, mage... oh wait... rogues use bows... for stats... or something... right?
Eonwe Valar: I'm a Paladin, so Egan's Blaster was the greatest ranged attack I had for a long while.
ArPharazonV: my rogue uses thrown...
ArPharazonV: my warrior uses guns...
ArPharazonV: my hunter knows her way around a bow, though
Menelvagor Valar: I've used Perfectly Calibrated Boomstick on my Rogue for ages :-)
ArPharazonV: and a crossbow on occasion
AriehnV: faili is using crosssbow atm
AriehnV: and that is carried on the back usually
AriehnV: or in the hand ready to fire ..
AriehnV: Rangers .. i think more tolkien like would be longbows i think
AriehnV: the ithilien rangers carried longbows if memorie serves right
ArPharazonV: well, when you're facing oliphaunts, you want to be at a distance...
Menelvagor Valar: nah, you want to be up close and personal, Legolas style :P
Menelvagor Valar: when you're facing Void Reaver you want to be as far away as possible *grin*
ArPharazonV: perhaps, perhaps.. but remember that Legolas needed arrows to climb up on one :-)
Menelvagor Valar: true :-D
mordacil: found a pic with it stuck to legolas's back http://www.council-of-elrond.com/castdb/legolas/legolas3.jpg
mordacil: strung, but it cuts just above where it attaches
Menelvagor Valar: oh btw, in totally unrelation... was listening to Evenstar by Enya covered by Lisa Kellie of Celtic Woman... it's amazing to listen to :-)
Menelvagor Valar: Here's a link to another song she sings that is better than the 1996 eurovision song festival original :-)
Menelvagor Valar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfO6JpR5Ip8&feature=related
ArPharazonV: oh, she has a nice voice
Menelvagor Valar: check out Scarborough Fair by Celtic Woman and Over the Rainbow... they are truly amazing.
ArPharazonV: those seem to be different singers though...
Menelvagor Valar: Aye.
Menelvagor Valar: They are a group of singers, and the best one suited for the song sings it :-)
ArPharazonV: scarborough fair is Hayley Westenra unless we're looking at different versions :-)
ArPharazonV: ah, ok
Menelvagor Valar: You are correct sir.
Menelvagor Valar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsTJU27a1uc&feature=related This one is beautiful as well.
AriehnV: oh i think i need an album of these .. they are powerful]
AriehnV: nice one Menel :-D]
ArPharazonV: anyway, I should be saving and sending
ArPharazonV: I feel like cutting out a certain section, but I'm not sure how that'd work..
Menelvagor Valar: open up the saved version in word or any text program and find and cut that section, then save again.
ArPharazonV: Eh, it's probably up to Varda
ArPharazonV: I'll leave her the choice
Menelvagor Valar: just make a mention of the section :-)
ArPharazonV: I will, but I'm sure she'll have no trouble finding it
Menelvagor Valar: hehe :-)
AriehnV: ah well my dear valarites .. i shall retire for tonight , the floor in the bedroom is a bit noisy
Eonwe Valar: Good night and Sleep well.
Menelvagor Valar: Good night Arphie.
AriehnV: Good night Menel and great to have t
AriehnV: you in here after such a long time :-)
ArPharazonV: Namarie Arie!...hn
Pallando Valar: hey, cool, I'm not dead yet. *banishes sickness*
AriehnV: and good night to the rest of you , yes you too Pallando
AriehnV: Namarie :-D
AriehnV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: saved
ArPharazonV: and sent
ArPharazonV: Namarie all
Pallando Valar: Hey, ar, have you seen mount & blade? Seems like something you'd like (game)
ArPharazonV: I haven't, no
Pallando Valar: should just be able to google it
Pallando Valar: combat's kinda meh, but it's pretty cool
Pallando Valar: might buy it
Pallando Valar: http://www.taleworlds.com/
ArPharazonV: looking at it
ArPharazonV: it seems nice
ArPharazonV: single-player rpg, is it?
ArPharazonV: kinda... Elder Scrolls-ish?
Pallando Valar: from the very little that I played for morrowwind...not really
Pallando Valar: for one thing, all humans, no magic
ArPharazonV: well, allright
ArPharazonV: but still, the genre, the graphics...
Pallando Valar: eh
Pallando Valar: there's no puzzels or anything
ArPharazonV: hmm.. what *is* it about then? just combat?
Pallando Valar: so far (demo only goes to 8) it's just fighting and...fighting
Pallando Valar: but there's an enegineer skill that looks like you can build stuff..dunno
Pallando Valar: looking on forums to see if there's more to it
Menelvagor Valar: demo is to lvl 6 :P
Menelvagor Valar: says so on the site you gave :-D
ArPharazonV: well, no time for it, need to go
Pallando Valar: I just played to 8. :p
ArPharazonV: see you next week!
ArPharazonV: I'll check it out tomorrow
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
