AriehnV: ::-)
AriehnV: not really .. but if you rememvber we had phone line trouble that affected broadband for a while
Eonwe Valar: Is that taken care of now?
AriehnV: Phara will remember endless disconnections ..
AriehnV: it looks like it :-) it was a drama to get sorted as usal with telecom
Eonwe Valar: At least it's fixed :}
AriehnV: but seems it was a faoult in the exchange
ArPharazonV: :-)
AriehnV: :-)

Eonwe Valar: Gaming:
Eonwe Valar: WoW:
Eonwe Valar: General:
ArPharazonV: (that was Guild Wars)
Eonwe Valar: Season 4 starts Tuesday. Midsummer Fire Festival going right now, until JUly 4th
Eonwe Valar: Lothar:
Eonwe Valar: Fangorn, Sauron, and Bilbo were on this week, working on some dailies in Quel Danas among other things.
Eonwe Valar: Arwen and Elwing were on as well, Elwing still working up to 70, and I was on or I wouldn't know this :}
Eonwe Valar: I got to make my Stormherald this week, lucky me.
ArPharazonV: grats :-)
Eonwe Valar: If anyone hasn't seen Stormherald, think Sauron's mace from the War of the Last Alliance at the beginning of the Fellowship of the Ring movie.
Eonwe Valar: The design reminds me alot of that.
Eonwe Valar: And thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: LotRO:
Eonwe Valar: I got some time in on LotRO this week too, am now level 25 and able to use the Bree horse I got from Turbine for Christmas. I got some game time in with Merry, as he helped me killed a giant and a very dangerous wolf.
Eonwe Valar: Anyone do anything besides WoW and LotRO?
Eonwe Valar: Phar is of course doing Guild Wars right now :}
ArPharazonV: oh, right, yes
ArPharazonV: and WoW this afternoon... and that's it, only came back yesterday
ArPharazonV: going well in Guild Wars, still in pre-searing, just got to lvl 7 with my ranger
ArPharazonV: enjoying myself so far, even though I don't know anyone :-)
Eonwe Valar: Last I heard we had members who play Guild Wars, but that information is almost a year old now and hasn't been updated by those people.
ArPharazonV: I have a Mordeth Strongbow in my friendslist who is one of ours, think it's Turin
Eonwe Valar: Except Phar, who just admitted he was playing it :}
ArPharazonV: though I haven't seen him online
Eonwe Valar: OK, well, I think we've come to the end of our gaming reports, so on to Tolkien.
top

Eonwe Valar: Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: Anyone have a topic?
AriehnV: the closest to my mind is .. spiders :-D
Eonwe Valar: What about them?
AriehnV: they turn up now and again in Tolkien and you cant deny that they play no role in his stories
AriehnV: just an idea :-)
Eonwe Valar: You're saying they play no role?
AriehnV: no i am actually saying they are so are a valid tolkien topic
Eonwe Valar: Ok, wording seemed a bit odd there.
thesirg3 has left the room.
AriehnV: a bad phrasing then from me my appologies
Eonwe Valar: NP. It's understood now :}
Eonwe Valar: OK, let's go with spiders.
ArPharazonV: Ungoliant, Shelob, the Mirkwood spiders?
Eonwe Valar: How did they play an important role in Tolkien stories?
AriehnV: thats the ones i mean aye :-) but lets expand on that a bit
ArPharazonV: well, things would have gone quite differently perhaps without them, they were significant events in the histories
ArPharazonV: waylaying main characters, poisoning trees...
AriehnV: not to mention drinking light ..
ArPharazonV: aye, Ungoliant nearly devoured the Silmarils.. wonder what kind of effect that would have had
ArPharazonV: overload?
Eonwe Valar: Without spiders, Thorin's company would still have the Elves to deal with.
GwaihirValar has entered the room.
GwaihirValar: hiya
AriehnV: without the spiders Bilbo wouldnt have to have to think of a quick way to save his friens
AriehnV: friends
Eonwe Valar: Doesn't seem drinking the Two Trees dry had much of an adverse affect on her, so I can't imagine the Silmarilli would've overloaded her.
Eonwe Valar: Heya Gwaihir, we're in Tolkien chat now. Subject is spiders.
AriehnV: hey Gwaihir
ArPharazonV: true
AriehnV: and i wonder how it would have affected Bilbo s character if he hadnt managed that
Eonwe Valar: Well, it'd be one less title to taunt Smaug with :}
AriehnV: true :-) so that was the Mirkwood spiders . what do we know about them ? Descendedants of Shelob that fled there?
ArPharazonV: I believe so, yes... they could talk, I understand?
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, one sec. I'm going to grab my RotK.
Eonwe Valar: Yes, they could talk.
Eonwe Valar: Actuall,y i'm grabbing my TT>
ArPharazonV: Shelob? :-)
AriehnV: i think its mentioned that she might be the only surviving child of Ungoliant
ArPharazonV: she might have come from the Ered Gorgoroth then?
Eonwe Valar: Ok, yes, the Mirkwood spiders are Shelbo's children.
AriehnV: which one are the Ered Gorgoroth again? i cant find it on the map
Eonwe Valar: Mountain of Terror in Doriath, First Age.
AriehnV: ah ok thanks Eonwe :-)
Eonwe Valar: Beren apparently fought creatures like her
AriehnV: aye .. when he got lost in Doriath wasnt it? sorry i am wrecking my mind here
Eonwe Valar: After doing so, he came upon Luthien, so I guess he didn't get too bad a deal :}
Eonwe Valar: I think the mountains of Terror are at the border of the Girdle of Melian.
Eonwe Valar: One sec, I'll get my Sil for reference on that.
Eonwe Valar: Yep, right at the border.
AriehnV: oki
Eonwe Valar: "Where the sorcery of Sauron and the power of Melian came together, and horror and madness walked," is what the Sil says of the wilderness of Dungortheb, on the southern end of the mountains.
AriehnV: ooh sounds like no real place for an afternoon walk
Eonwe Valar: Seems Beren never talked of that journey afterwards.
Eonwe Valar: Wonder how people found out about it then :}
ArPharazonV: maybe the spiders were complaining about it? ;-)
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Maybe. He did have to get past them to keep going :}
Eonwe Valar: I can see a giant spider registering a complaint with the nearest Elven magistrate.
AriehnV: there is only source who can give witness to that i guess .. she who healed him :-) i would think she told it to her mother
fladrifv: just killed a bunch of spiders
AriehnV: ;-) to fladrif
AriehnV: some nosy servants .. raving in nightmares something like this
AriehnV: theres always ways how news spread
AriehnV: so we cvered the Mirkwood spiders, spiders in Doriath , mentioned Ungoliant
AriehnV: but what about Shelob|?
AriehnV: where was she prominent?
Eonwe Valar: Shelob? Who is this Shelob you speak of? ;}
Eonwe Valar: She of course was the owner and namesake of Cirith Ungol.
Eonwe Valar: Well, owner of the caves, being she's been dwelling there for a long long time, before Sauron arrived and drove off her food.
ArPharazonV: without Shelob, Frodo might not have been captured, and might have had to cast off his mithril shirt on his way to Mount Doom, so without her he might not have been able to keep as souvenir an object of such high value :-)
Eonwe Valar: And Sauron wouldn't have had an item to taunt the Lords of the West with.
AriehnV: and maybe Frodo wouldnt have gotten into the Orc Tower and Sam wouldntr have gotten his chance
Eonwe Valar: Sam wouldn't have got to go across the Sea.
AriehnV: *nods * which surely wasnt what either Sauron or Shelob intended
AriehnV: *grin * but that was the way the story went
Eonwe Valar: Or, because of the delay caused by Frodo's capture, if from had not been, the armies standing between him and Mount Doom may not have been moved yet.
Eonwe Valar: *if Frodo had not been
fladrifv: but its more easy to hide in the crowd!
ArPharazonV: perhaps, but then they might have just hidden low for a while
Eonwe Valar: Staying too long in one place would've been a bad idea.
Eonwe Valar: Being able to keep moving without trying to find a way through/around Sauron's army was helpful.
AriehnV: aye so they had to move on and the task had to be completed
AriehnV: so we see spiders played an important role in Tolkiens books , good and evil and intended or executed evil that brought astonishing results
Eonwe Valar: Evil just can't get it right in the end :}
AriehnV: maybe without them Middlearth or in fact Arda might have been more peaceful but they made it certainly more interesting
ArPharazonV: and all Morgoth's designs would turn out for the greater good in the end, or something like that
AriehnV: true eonwe :-)
AriehnV: and Phara aye
Eonwe Valar: Well, seems like we've concluded the chat. Shall we call it here?
ArPharazonV: anyone up for some game? warcraft 3? starcraft?
fladrifv: starcraft ....
fladrifv: too bad its too late
Eonwe Valar: *bangs gavel*
top

Eonwe Valar: Aftermeeting :}
AriehnV: hehe managed to bag five black bear claws and 3 bloodshot spider eyes during the meeting ;-)
AriehnV: shammy class quest
GwaihirValar: that quest was a real pain
Eonwe Valar: Homework assignment: Think of a Tolkien topic you'd like to discuss or learn more about, and bring it next week :}
GwaihirValar: really poor droprates
AriehnV: aye like the hunter one i remember that one too
ArPharazonV: hmm, I think I'm nearly done with the pre-searing area... only a few quests to go, and I've already got all the skills and set-armor..
GwaihirValar: hunter one was even worse
GwaihirValar: ugh
GwaihirValar: I've done it twice, and it was a major pain both times lol
GwaihirValar: only three I haven't done are paladin, rogue and warlock, and I helped my wife with the warlock one lol
AriehnV: rogue wasnt too bad i think .. cant remember even though that wasnt too long ago
AriehnV: it ended up with killing Morphaz as well
Eonwe Valar: Yeah, I think three of them end with killing Morphaz.
AriehnV: Pali was the easiest :-) , in the sense fo least annoying , collecting scourgstones , then purifying in felwood ..t that was fun *grin* spawned three undead every time
ArPharazonV: the druid one does, I think
AriehnV: and then the one with the vodoo feathers in ST as well
AriehnV: Druid was annoying .. especially go and see if this potion works on devilsaurier ..aye right .. was clear that not
AriehnV: :-)
AriehnV: Namarie all :-) 2 more claws :-) then bed
AriehnV has left the room.
GwaihirValar has left the room.
fladrifv: namarie!
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
ArPharazonV: Just entered post-searing, got new storage... I think I might like it here
fladrifv has left the room.
ArPharazonV: saving and sending
ArPharazonV has left the room.
