Arwen V1 has entered the room.
Star of Phaet has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Guten Tag
ArPharazonV: about 40 stacks of runecloth, and I'm 4000 rep away from exalted... so won't be nearly enough for an elekk

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: Membership:
VardaValar1: I have no new members to report, but we have met a lot of people with similar interests, especially in LotRO. : )
VardaValar1: Does anyone else have any membership news?
ArPharazonV: guess it's a sort of membership news, personal...
VardaValar1: Go ahead, Phar : )
ArPharazonV: finally went back to the university this week to see about my next study, only to learn there aren't any courses I've done in my old one that give me points for the new one
ArPharazonV: the only courses that matter were far to superficially treated in the old study to matter for the new one... so it would have worked the other way around, but not now
ArPharazonV: so I've said my goodbye and am now working to officially stop my study and hoping for a refund of money
ArPharazonV: if my story interests any of you I'll keep you posted with any new progress :-)
sauronjag has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Lungorthin
VardaValar1: You can tell me, Phar. I like to know how you're getting along
Eonwe Valar: So, no university classes for you this semesters, Phar?
ArPharazonV: nope
sauronjag: heyas
Eonwe Valar: *semester
Eonwe Valar: Heya Lungorthin and Happy Brithday :}
Eonwe Valar: *Birthday
ArPharazonV: thinking of getting a job in the meanwhile, but also preparing to start driving for my license
VardaValar1: *tosses confetti*
ArPharazonV: so we'll see how it goes from here
sauronjag: thanks much :-)
Eonwe Valar: Good idea, Phar.
Eonwe Valar: Good luck.
ArPharazonV: and of course I need to figure out what location I'm actually going to, since I'm starting to have some doubts and the teacher I went to can't give me much more information
ArPharazonV: thanks
VardaValar1: Good luck Phar
Eonwe Valar: Not good when the teachers can't help you in their field.
ArPharazonV: thank you! my life has never been less stable and predictable than it will be for the next 6 months...
ArPharazonV: well, it was the teacher of my old study
Eonwe Valar: How drastically did your study change?
ArPharazonV: who taught the course that is basically the new study I'm going to
ArPharazonV: so she went to the university there, but doesn't have much current information
ArPharazonV: from archaeology to earth sciences
ArPharazonV: less human- and social-oriented, which is good
Eonwe Valar: essentially history to science. suppose that would cost you several classes..
ArPharazonV: unfortunately, it isn't studyable in the city nearest to my home town, so a lot more travel
ArPharazonV: :-)
Eonwe Valar: Well, good luck with your continuing education :}

VardaValar1: Web News:
VardaValar1: Tolkien Site:
VardaValar1: For the Articles, Eonwe has updated the Search function
VardaValar1: Could you tell us what the change is?
VardaValar1: (which I've tried and liked)
ArPharazonV: pardon for being away from time to time, btw, still donating stuff in WoW
Eonwe Valar: Well, First, you'll notice the Search functon gives you the name of the article/paper now, not the filename.
Eonwe Valar: Second, I've sorted out most results in which the only instance of the Search function is in the author's name.
Eonwe Valar: *search string
Eonwe Valar: A few still get through, not yet sure why, but it shouldn't be happening to an annoying degree.
Eonwe Valar: That's it.
VardaValar1: Thank you for all your work, Eonwe!
FinduilasV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Finduilas : )
VardaValar1: Under Stories:
FinduilasV: Aiya all :D
FinduilasV: Aiya Oladys :D :D
VardaValar1: "Spring Planting" by Branwyn-(TV), not as light-hearted as it starts out seeming.
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/fiction/authors/Branwyn/stories/SpringPlanting.htm
VardaValar1: Poetry:
VardaValar1: "Alchemy" by Branwyn-(TV)
VardaValar1: about Feanor and the palantiri that he may have made, as he did not restrict himself to the silmarilli
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/poetry/Alchemy.htm
VardaValar1: New art from Beorn-(V)
VardaValar1: He sent a photo of himself in armor that he made
VardaValar1: http://www.valar.game-host.org/varda/gallery/Beorn/caveBeorn.htm
VardaValar1: Also in Art, Turgon-(V)'s cave has been remade in sections to improve loading speed.
VardaValar1: In my email sent in today and coming this week:
VardaValar1: A book review by Franco Manni-(TV)
VardaValar1: He has also started an English section online for his Italian Tolkien fan magazine, Endore
VardaValar1: which is also in regular slick magazine format.
VardaValar1: Alasse-(TV) sent in a drabble story.
VardaValar1: Elwing-(V) continues work with a new chapter on a story you guys don't get to see until it's complete, according to her.
VardaValar1: She wants to be able to go back and forth in the story improving it first, and it is still under construction.
VardaValar1: Any other web news?
VardaValar1: I also need to ask someone who speaks German what Stich means, other than oladys. ; )
FinduilasV: oooh Sting
Eonwe Valar: That one I wouldn't hav ebeen familiar with :}
VardaValar1: Thanks Fin : )
top

VardaValar1: Gaming News:
VardaValar1: We have a request for help from Elwing-(V)'s brother
VardaValar1: He recently received a gift of the game "Painkiller", special edition with about 5 levels
VardaValar1: He is stuck on level 3, not used to gaming, and asks if any of us have played it and could give suggestions.
VardaValar1: Have any of you played it?
Star of Phaet: no, sorry
VardaValar1: okies
VardaValar1: He has no instruction book and is banging his head. : )
Eonwe Valar: might try gamefaqs.com
VardaValar1: Thanks, I'll pass that on to him.
Eonwe Valar: if he's desperate. They usually have some good stuff.
VardaValar1: He's desperate. : )
ArPharazonV: aye, gamefaqs is usually good
ArPharazonV: might want to try.. let's see, what was it called... neoseeker?
VardaValar1: I will look at it too out of curiosity. : )
VardaValar1: Has anyone played anything this week that isn't WoW or LotRO? : )
ArPharazonV: *thinks* no, I doubt it
TwoSurlyDwarves has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Beorn : )
ArPharazonV: well, a game of cards here and there
ArPharazonV: but nothing on the pc :-)
TwoSurlyDwarves: hey
ArPharazonV: hey Beorn
Eonwe Valar: Heya Beorn. Good job on choosing a LotR Trivia question btw. I challenge everyone here to go try and answer it :}
VardaValar1: D&D Eberron here for Sauron and me. : )
VardaValar1: ahh, must check on that!
TwoSurlyDwarves: I've been gone all weekend - has no one answered it yet?
Eonwe Valar: Apparently not :}
VardaValar1: I still have to go look, but I hear from two people that it's a beaut. : )
VardaValar1: LotRO News:
VardaValar1: Eonwe, go ahead
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
Eonwe Valar: To those who have pre-ordered through Gamestop or Electronics Boutique (and possibly other places)- Turbine reports that the latest run of Keys for the discs are incorrect.
Eonwe Valar: They bear a 16-digit code instead of a 25-digit code.
Eonwe Valar: This was obviously causing issues with people not able to use their keys.
Eonwe Valar: Turbine's setting up a new system to handle the problem of incomplete keys, which should be up by Wednesday, but..
ArPharazonV: (poking between news: just left WoW after donating 53 (!) stacks of runecloth, got me to revered with Exodar... anyway, contacted Fladrif, he's installing AIM now to come to the meeting)
Eonwe Valar: if you haven't picked up your pre-order disc yet, my local Gamestop informs me new ones should be in by Wednesday as well.
VardaValar1: Do you know if Amazon.com was ok?
VardaValar1: Grats Phar, hi to Fladrif. : )
Eonwe Valar: If you ordered online, you are not affected by this.
Eonwe Valar: You should've got your key in e-mail, and it should be fine.
Eonwe Valar: Keys sent by e-mail should have all 25 digits of their code.
Eonwe Valar: Best Buy does not seem to be affected either. They had their boxes sitting in stores a full week before Gamestop and EB.
Eonwe Valar: I'm pretty sure I've mentioned all the main points. Any questions?
Eonwe Valar: Ok, then I am done :}
VardaValar1: Thanks, Eonwe
VardaValar1: In LotRO, our main current server is Meneldor, second is Brandywine, third is Windfola. In case of crashes since it's beta and we "try" to crash them.
VardaValar1: Fainan is your contact person on each one, and each has the Valar Guild branch there.
VardaValar1: Last night, the devs had an event in which luck Ancalagon and Dis got to try to participate.
VardaValar1: Anc, could you tell about it?
Sarujil: I'd be delighted
Sarujil: Turbine put on a Tolkien Trivia Contest, for an hour on each server. First Brandywine, then Meneldor, and finally Windfola.
Sarujil: I had to use a level 1 to participate on Brandywine. The first person with the correct answer won. Unfortunately, you have to be a champion speed-typer to win :-(
Sarujil: The prizes were in game cash and an item
VardaValar1: *sniff* and I wasn't there.
Sarujil: On Meneldor, the contest was made a tad easier. The first two typing speedsters with the answer won!
FladrifV has entered the room.
FladrifV: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
Sarujil: I was the only in-game guild member present that I could see, so I felt it was my duty to try and uphold our reputation! :-)
Sarujil: Aiya fladrif
Sarujil: One of the questions was stolen out of last week's meeting: How many elves participated in the battle of Helm's Deep?
TwoSurlyDwarves: lol
Sarujil: Sadly, even though the answer was only 1 character, I was unable to win :-(
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: However you got it right.
VardaValar1: Dis-(V) was online with her husband's guild and bragged on you quite happily to her group. : )
VardaValar1: She said she could not type nearly fast enough.
Sarujil: But I came back and defeated all other contestants (cept one) to win the question: What are the names of the three Elven rings?
Sarujil: Which are of course Nenya, Vilya, and Narya.
Sarujil: Gloating proudly to the North Downs chat, I went to the mailbox to pick up my well-earned reward, 50 silver and the Sword of Mithrellas!
Sarujil: That is my account.
VardaValar1: Nice! (As if I knew what that sword was)
Sarujil: it means the Sword of Grey Leaf, apparently
Sarujil: and it sparkles :-)
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, wasn't Mithrellas the Elf wife of a Lord of Dol Amroth?
Eonwe Valar: Pardon, it was Imrazor the Numenorean.
Eonwe Valar: But Mithrellas is her name :}
Eonwe Valar: Their son Galador was the first lord of Dol Amroth, according the Unfinished Tales.
Eonwe Valar: *according to
VardaValar1: Sparkles! I, Tintalle, approve!
Eonwe Valar: hehe
VardaValar1: Ready for WoW, Euro folk?
VardaValar1: Finduilas, would you like to go first?
VardaValar1: Guess she's afk
VardaValar1: Phar, would you like to report?
ArPharazonV: not much to report on behalf of the Valar-branch, didn't hang out with the others much, trying to get my own character further settled in the higher zones of Outland
ArPharazonV: got him to lvl 70, is now questing in the zone of Netherstorm, and finished a few instances' quests this week
VardaValar1: Congrats on 70!
VardaValar1: Any other Valar hit 70?
ArPharazonV: and got him revered with Exodar during this very meeting, but that won't do much until I get to exalted :-)
VardaValar1: We have some very close in Lothar, but not there yet.
FladrifV: on our way varda
VardaValar1: Revered is tough enough. : )
VardaValar1: Go Fladrif. : )
FladrifV: only 63 yet
FladrifV: and I must say I get more and more like a mushroom...
ArPharazonV: if you need help with any group-quests in Outland, Flad, I'm happy to help
FinduilasV: *Moans*
ArPharazonV: when I'm not in groups or instances myself, of course ;-)
FladrifV: that is like never :P
FinduilasV: am usually available appart from rare exceptions
ArPharazonV: eh, that's allright, been instancing a lot the last 2 days, but I think it was an exception
ArPharazonV: I'm still soloing most of the time
FladrifV: findy what level are you now?
FinduilasV: 63
FladrifV: if you are up for some mushroom things....
VardaValar1: Maybe you three could get together shortly for a little?
FinduilasV: havent been questing an awful lot the last few days, mainly gathering copper for upgrading my mining
FinduilasV: and a bit pvping on the side
FinduilasV: ooh aye and that raid .. ':- but if ye help me to empty my quest log a bit i ll be with you :-)
FladrifV: no problem fin
VardaValar1: Sounds fun. : )
VardaValar1: WoW Lothar report time!
Glorfindel VG has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks
VardaValar1: Aiya Glorfindel!
Eonwe Valar: This week, myself, Eowyn, and Sauron, decided to lend aid to Elwing in her quest to deal with instances.
Glorfindel VG: Aiya!
Eonwe Valar: Eonwë's Priest and Sauron's and Eowyn's Warlocks, and Elwing's Hunter joined forces in Uldaman to complete:
Eonwe Valar: Restoring the Necklace, The Lost Tablets of Will, Back to Uldaman, Angmond's Fate, Reclaimed Treasures, The Lost Dwarves, Uldaman Reagent Run, and for Eowyn "Find the Enchanter Trainer"
Eonwe Valar: We got through Uldaman the first time, completing most of the quests and wiping out the boss, but there were still some questgivers who weren't satisfied with our first trip.
Eonwe Valar: So, we went back in a second time, cleared again all the way to (and through) the boss, finishing off the remaining quests.
Eonwe Valar: Afterwards, we dealt with Tremors of the Earth for Eonwë's Priest, then called it a night.
Eonwe Valar: I switched to my Paladin, got to 64, then decided to test out Seal of Vengeance in a typical everyday scenario, like soloing Scholomance :}
FinduilasV: *laughs* i was satisfied with Uldaman
Eonwe Valar: Most I tried at once was two targets at a time, and it didn't do too bad.
Eonwe Valar: That concludes my report.
FinduilasV: did that go all right? I still need two holly water
Eonwe Valar: Holy Water is in Stratholme.
FinduilasV: well seven actually
FinduilasV: ah true i always mix those up
FinduilasV: ealsily doen everbody does jhehe
FinduilasV: ok carry on :-)
Eonwe Valar: But I imagine a 64ish Protection specced Paladin with the kind of gear I was toting would eat those group mobs in Stratholme alive.
Eonwe Valar: All that reflective AoE damage...
Eonwe Valar: Anyway, as said, I am done.
VardaValar1: Thanks, Eonwe
VardaValar1: WoW Uldaman went with the Wednesday night time. : )
VardaValar1: BeornV, AnnatarV, and Tinta (Varda) grouped as blood elves doing a collection of quests in Eversong Woods.
VardaValar1: AnnatarV had to leave, but Elwing came in (first as DawnBringer, picking up her druid's aquatic form)
VardaValar1: joined the group as the blood elf WhiteTower, and more quests went down
VardaValar1: AnnatarV went from level 8 to 11, Tinta from 11 to 13, WhiteTower from 9 to 10.
TwoSurlyDwarves: I hit 12 right after you went to bed
Eonwe Valar: So, in other words, I've got some updating to do for the Uldaman Players table :}
VardaValar1: Thanks Beorn : )
TwoSurlyDwarves: ;-)
VardaValar1: We like to keep you busy, Eonwe
VardaValar1: Now for the best news: : )
VardaValar1: Welcome to the Valar Guild, Eilinel-(V)!
VardaValar1: She just passed her test. : )
Eonwe Valar: Hail and Welcome, Eilinel :}
oladys 123: :-)
Sarujil: welcome!
ArPharazonV: Aiya Eilinel!
VardaValar1: Would you like to say a few words to introduce yourself, Eilinel?
ArPharazonV: Welcome to our humble guild ;-)
FinduilasV: Eilinel :D
VardaValar1: We try to be humble once a week. : )
oladys 123: I am glad and honored to be ere
VardaValar1: Would you like to tell how you wound up here? : )
VardaValar1: You've been visiting with us for quite a while.
VardaValar1: Can you remember that far back? : )
oladys 123: ACtually Finduilas was kind enough to show me the path
oladys 123: we were taking about baords and gaming
FinduilasV: /me smiles
oladys 123: and we both share the love to Tolkiens world
VardaValar1: I'm going to brag on Eilinel for getting a perfect score of 5/5.
oladys 123: *ihm*
oladys 123: *Uhm* (maybe I should look at the keyboard while I'm typing)
ArPharazonV: congratulations :-)
VardaValar1: aw why? I rarely do. ;-)
FinduilasV: My best wishes
oladys 123: I shall have a new AIM name soon
VardaValar1: You have horses, aye?
oladys 123: yes, two
VardaValar1: She had to go afk after her test to feed them. : )
oladys 123: yeap, twice a day... it's a blackie and a bay
top

VardaValar1: For our Tolkien discussion,
VardaValar1: we might discuss who Eilinel was and how she affected history.
VardaValar1: which she did, most innocently.
TwoSurlyDwarves: sorry guys, I have to take off
TwoSurlyDwarves: /wave
VardaValar1: Namarie!
ArPharazonV: Namarie
TwoSurlyDwarves has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Take care Beorn.
oladys 123: Eilinil was the wife of Gorlum
oladys 123: Gorlim
oladys 123: he left to join the war against Sauron, right?
ArPharazonV: for Barahir, yes
Eonwe Valar: War against Morgoth.
ArPharazonV: after Dorthonion was overrun, he was one of the last companions of Barahir
ArPharazonV: oh, right :-)
ArPharazonV: well, but it was Sauron especially who came against them to finish them off, no?
oladys 123: did he not get Gorlim to betray Barahir
oladys 123: to reward him only to kill him off so that he could join her in death
ArPharazonV: yes, by creating an illusion of Eilinil at their old ruined home when Gorlim came to visit it in the hope to find some sign that she was alive
ArPharazonV: Upon approaching her, however, he was captured by Sauron, who promised to reunite them if he gave the location of Barahir
VardaValar1: Aye, Gorlim did not know if she had been killed or captured, kept hoping, and would slip back to check the house.
ArPharazonV: which he did, and Sauron kept his promise... by killing him
oladys 123: nice to have a man who'd go the extra mile for his wife. sorry.
Eonwe Valar: He should've known better than to trust Sauron.
oladys 123: I agree
VardaValar1: He hoped, not exactly trust.
Eonwe Valar: He trusted that what he saw wasn't a lie.
ArPharazonV: this led to Barahir being slain, Beren retrieving the ring and heading down to Doriath, where he met Luthien... and all the subsequent history
oladys 123: yes, he did, and maybe their cause was lost anyway... Barahir couldn't succeed IMHO
ArPharazonV: the ring being Barahir's ring, by the way, a sign of friendship and oath between Barahir and.. Finrod, I think?
Eonwe Valar: It's a sad story, and I feel bad for the guy, but when dealing with Sauron. One should be a bit more careful.
Eonwe Valar: *Sauron, one
VardaValar1: Gorlim refused to tell Sauron's men anything, until they said they would release and restore him to his wife, then he faltered. And they took him to Sauron.
ArPharazonV: one might think that if this hadn't happened, the same events would still unfold at a later time, because Barahir's case may indeed have been hopeless
ArPharazonV: and Beren might have met Luthien this way at a later date
VardaValar1: He would have drawn back but was daunted by the eyes of Sauron.
ArPharazonV: yet who's to say what differences that may have been caused in the grand tale of the Silmaril...
ArPharazonV: *may have caused
oladys 123: right, my opinion too... it was bound to happen and could only happen because of the demise of Barahir
ArPharazonV: however, it might also be said that if it hadn't happened at this time, Beren might have been present among the others of his father's folk when Sauron came upon them, and would have been slain himself
VardaValar1: Gorlim tried to make up for it apparently, warning Beren in ghostly form, asking him to warn his father Barahir.
ArPharazonV: so it is quite possible that only because of Gorlim did Beren escape death, and without him the War might have ended quite differently
VardaValar1: True. The timing was good as Beren had been sent out as a spy right then.
VardaValar1: Beren also recovered the Ring of Barahir
VardaValar1: The orcs held up Barahir's hand with the ring on it, planning to prove their deed to Sauron.
VardaValar1: Beren killed the orc chieftain who had the hand and took it back.
VardaValar1: When he ran he was "defended by fate"
VardaValar1: One might wonder about who was responsible when it says "defended by fate".
VardaValar1: Mandos?
oladys 123: I'm sorry I have to go... there is a skype session coming up in a bit... Gaidhlig ;-) was very nice to be here. See you all next week, I suppose :-D
VardaValar1: We seem done anyway : )
VardaValar1: Good to have had you here. : )
VardaValar1: Namarie!
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
Eonwe Valar: Take care.
oladys 123: Namarie!
FinduilasV: Namarie
VardaValar1: Finduilas is trying to get into LotRO
ArPharazonV: it makes an interesting topic, though... events that seemed/were evil at their time
FinduilasV: not working
VardaValar1: Fin, what success did you have?
oladys 123 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: but without them, things might have turned out even worse
VardaValar1: Aye, Phar
ArPharazonV: maybe something for another meeting?
VardaValar1: Might need to come up with such an event and we can discuss it
VardaValar1: Sounds good. : )
VardaValar1: Need to re-download Fin? Might be a corrupted file
ArPharazonV: well, Gorlim's story is such an event :-)
FinduilasV: New graphcs card likely ..
VardaValar1: You have to delete Beta 1 if you had it before you can install Beta 2
VardaValar1: ouch
ArPharazonV: just thought we might broaden the topic another time with more of those events
VardaValar1: That would be a good idea, Pharazon!
Eonwe Valar: What Graphics card do you have right now?
VardaValar1: Like it's a good thing the world isn't flat anymore thanks to you? : )
top

After-meeting:
FinduilasV: what is it NVidea Geforce 4 or somesuch\
Eonwe Valar: How much memory on the card?
VardaValar1: FinduilasV: i had trouble reading text in extra panels .. absolutely nothing
FinduilasV: 32 mb think thats the adapter Geforce4 420 Go
Eonwe Valar: Yweah, you'll want a new graphics card.
Eonwe Valar: They recommend a 128 Meg Graphics card.
VardaValar1: Very graphics heavy game
Srekal86 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: They also recommend 1-2 gig of normal RAM.
