VardaValar1: Web Report:
VardaValar1: Art page:
VardaValar1: Arwen has improved Turgon-(V)'s cave so that it loads quickly with proper thumbnails and cropping
VardaValar1: Huge improvement. Maybe someone can look at it now. : )
VardaValar1: New picture from Cassia for the story "Black Breath"
VardaValar1: Hoped to have the story online and finished editing for you, but it is not quite done.
VardaValar1: Cave of Elatan-(Valar)
Menelvagor Valar: Some member news, although not of very much importance: me is happy! *bounce bounce*
VardaValar1: This is a Must See
VardaValar1: just 1 sec and you can, Menel :-)
VardaValar1: Elatan sent in new photos of the longbows he made himself
VardaValar1: Shows them in actual use
Menelvagor Valar: Sorry, trying not to bounce *half bounce half bounce*
VardaValar1: He and his brother made a mosaic of a Tolkien-style tree
VardaValar1: and built it on the side of Elatan's brother's house in the country
VardaValar1: http://www.valar.game-host.org/varda/gallery/Elatan/caveElatan.htm
VardaValar1: Ok, backing up to Member News.

Menelvagor Valar: *bounce bounce* you bet'cha.
Srekal86 has left the room.
Star of Phaet: someone's bouncy

VardaValar1: ah sorry
Star of Phaet has left the room.
Star of Phaet has entered the room.
VardaValar1: That sounds like the best of news, Menel : )
Menelvagor Valar: age does not come into the equasion anywhere, Arphie :-)
VardaValar1: Gilraen, would you like to make your report now?
ArPharazonV: oh really? how much younger than you is she then?
Menelvagor Valar: I bet Varda still bounces in her heart with her love for Fangorn :-)
ArPharazonV: ;-)
VardaValar1: Aye, Menel
VardaValar1: :-)
Star of Phaet: love is... bouncy
Menelvagor Valar: she's just married for so long she's learned not to bounce in public

Star of Phaet: thanks Eonwe
ArPharazonV: may is good for birthdays, for some reason :-)

VardaValar1: Gaming News:
VardaValar1: Eonwe, your floor : )
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: WoW Lothar Report:
VardaValar1: pardon,
Eonwe Valar: yes?
VardaValar1: didn't you have a WoW general first?
Eonwe Valar: Well, I was going to announce it after. It's sort of WoW Lothar general actually.
VardaValar1: ah ok, thanks : )
VardaValar1: Please go ahead.
Eonwe Valar: Lothar general is general to me, hehe :}
VardaValar1: : )
Eonwe Valar: This week's Guild questing took Varda, Eonwë, Sauron, Arwen, and Beline to Dire Maul West, where we hoped to complete Sauron's Epic Mount quest there.
Eonwe Valar: We were trying to pickup where we left off Thursday, as we had run out of time on Thursday. We got much more done this time around.
Eonwe Valar: We cleared the chamber with Immolatus and cleared out the mana remnants protecting each of the five pillars.
Eonwe Valar: We even found a quest giver in the upper area.
VardaValar1: for the Prince quest
Eonwe Valar: However, the tornado respawns got us before we could get back to the chamber where Immolatus now sat unprotected.
VardaValar1: Main problem was the time limit imposed by work.
Eonwe Valar: Then, right behind them, the undead corridor had respawned again, making the first back in even tougher.
Eonwe Valar: *first = fight
Eonwe Valar: We didn't have time to fight our way back in and take on immolatus, so we had to call it a night. Next time however will be a much quicker fight. Immolatus won't stand a chance :}
ArPharazonV: you can take a short cut to the library, and thus to immolatus' room, via DM north, no?
VardaValar1: About that, Sauron says he'd like to try again tonight. He's on now ;-)
Eonwe Valar: You still have to clear out the crystal pylons.
ArPharazonV: if you already cleared out the pylons, and then wipe, it might be easier then fighting through respawned undead etc
VardaValar1: Not familiar with that shortcut.
Eonwe Valar: Gotta sneak past Ogres :}
VardaValar1: Wouldn't we have to fight through North?
VardaValar1: oh, we can do that . ;-)
ArPharazonV: just 1 small field of ogres, Varda
Eonwe Valar: THink they have those dog packs in there too.
VardaValar1: Long as they don't spit acid.
Eonwe Valar: But aye, if we made it, it would be easier.
ArPharazonV: just a few ogres and dogs (well, a few....)
Menelvagor Valar: *bounce*
ArPharazonV: would be better to fight through those than through most of respawned DM west again
ArPharazonV: again, assuming the pylons are already cleared, of course
Eonwe Valar: Aye
VardaValar1: Thanks, good to know
Eonwe Valar: As for the second part of my news:
ArPharazonV: on that lower levelled (in hight, that is) field, there's a door and a tunnel leading to the library
ArPharazonV: no further mobs in that shortcut
ArPharazonV: of course, you need the crescent key to use it, but you finished East, didn't you?
VardaValar1: yes we did
Eonwe Valar: We had to finish east to get into West, so aye :}
VardaValar1: Several of us have the key
ArPharazonV: ah, true :-)
VardaValar1: We try to get it for all the people we can
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: Hoping to set up everyone with lots of keys : )
VardaValar1: and flight paths
ArPharazonV: I know the feeling, I always try to get all the keys for myself, no matter how many people in our guild have them already
ArPharazonV: just missing the UBRS key
ArPharazonV: gotta love the keyrings coming in the next patch :-)
VardaValar1: Also need to work on everyone's attunements
VardaValar1: Aye, Phar!
Eonwe Valar: Between tonight and tomorrow I will be posting a Tolkien Trivia contest to the The Valar Guild's WoW General board.
Eonwe Valar: As I can only offer prizes to those who are on Lothar, this will only be for Valar Guild members who have a Guild character in the Lothar branch.
VardaValar1: (or make one really quick?)
ArPharazonV: aww, can't I participate even without rewards?
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: You guys might also make a Europe trivia contest? That's half the room nearly?
Eonwe Valar: Winners will be able to choose which of their characters in the Lothar branch they want to receive the awards, and they will be given a choice of awards as appropriate for that character as possible.
ArPharazonV: what kind of rewards, Eonwe?
Eonwe Valar: Rewards from the Guild bank :}
Eonwe Valar: A choice of either an item, maybe a pattern or two, making some materials for their crafting.
Menelvagor Valar: regardless of the fact that it is for Lothar only, I will participate *grin*
Eonwe Valar: making = maybe.
ArPharazonV: same, Menel!
Eonwe Valar: You can send answers, and I will be most happy to tell you how I do :}
Eonwe Valar: er, how you do :}
Menelvagor Valar: besides, I could use a couple items in advance for when the time comes when I do get into Lothar :-)
ArPharazonV: hahaha
VardaValar1: Might be in LotRO first. ; )
Menelvagor Valar: like a Precisely Calibrated Boomstick perhaps?
Eonwe Valar: I do some smaller one-question trivia for items from the Guild bank from time to time as well, but this is the first big one I'm doing.
ArPharazonV: or a nice darkmoon set ;-)
VardaValar1: Gnomish precision? : )
Menelvagor Valar: well, as far as I can figure, LotRO will be having the same problem as WoW
Menelvagor Valar: not really, it's a drop :-)
Menelvagor Valar: and a rare one too :-)
VardaValar1: Sure looks like it, at least in beta. Unsettling.
Menelvagor Valar: A rogue's weapon, gives +14 agility :-)
ArPharazonV: well, hunters can use it too then ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: I hope they're willing to make an exception
Menelvagor Valar: *bounce*
Eonwe Valar: Difficulty of the question will differ from person to person and question to question, so I hope you've reread LotR recently :}
Menelvagor Valar: better weapons for rogues.
Menelvagor Valar: oh dear.
VardaValar1: Not open book, I take it : )
Menelvagor Valar: I'm in for a treat, ain't I?
Eonwe Valar: No, it is not open book :}
ArPharazonV: oh, this should be good..
VardaValar1: I assume Valar honor are not eligible for rewards, as usual? : )
Eonwe Valar: I will also offer my services as a blacksmith or an Alchemist to the first place winner :}
VardaValar1: oh, now that's a good idea for a prize!
ArPharazonV: will you provide the materials then? ;-)
Eonwe Valar: If I say services, then yes, I will supply everything needed to make the item in question :}
VardaValar1: If he doesnt' have them, others who are not the winner might help with mats.
Eonwe Valar: However, it has to be an item I can make in the first place :}
ArPharazonV: well then I guess the winner will just have to request something that takes up like arcanite bars or something ;-)
ArPharazonV: *like 12 arcanite bars
Eonwe Valar: If I have anything that requires Arcanite bars :}
Menelvagor Valar: I suppose Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros is out of the question :-P
ArPharazonV: haha
Eonwe Valar: As I said, rewards will be made as appropriate to the character as possible ;}
VardaValar1: Since you're in Europe, yes ; )
Eonwe Valar: so a level one is not getting an Arcanite Reaper out of me, for example :}
ArPharazonV: well, for that you need a certain rare drop from Ragnaros which is BoP... so I don't think that's possible ;-)
VardaValar1: It would be an escort thing
ArPharazonV: in all our months of MCing, it just recently dropped for the first time
Menelvagor Valar: can you make a nice lvl 1 wandsy for a priest-to-be? :-)
VardaValar1: I can do that : )
VardaValar1: Long escort, and we're all kidding around Phar : )
ArPharazonV: hehe
Eonwe Valar: This contest is open to members of all honors with a character in the official Guild branch to test their Tolkien knowledge for prizes :}
VardaValar1: Sounds like a great idea, Eonwe. Thank you from all of us.
VardaValar1: If I win, I'll try to offer a prize back in exchange for someone else. : )
VardaValar1: 300 level Tribal Leatherworker
Eonwe Valar: All members may take a crack at it to test their Tolkien knowledge without prizes, however.
VardaValar1: Some enchant ability
VardaValar1: Bragging rights? : )
Eonwe Valar: Bragging rights are good :}
VardaValar1: (Texans love bragging rights.)
Eonwe Valar: I may even include winners from both Lothar and from the rest of the Guild as part of the contest results :}
Eonwe Valar: It will go on the Games Page :}
VardaValar1: Excellent.
Menelvagor Valar: unlimited Bouncing Rights? :-D
Eonwe Valar: Maybe other pages... :}
VardaValar1: Not in chat, Menel ; )
VardaValar1: News page, for sure. : )
Menelvagor Valar: blimey *bounce*
Eonwe Valar: Sounds like an announcement for the WoW page as well :}
VardaValar1: Aye, Menelvagor, oh WoW page webmaster.
Menelvagor Valar: *blinks*
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: That should do it for my announcements, barring any more questions :}
VardaValar1: Thank you, Eonwe. Sounds fun!
Eonwe Valar: Mp :} I hope this is only the first :}
VardaValar1: I assume all know about the announced Alliance race, the Draenei.
Eonwe Valar: Oh! Almost forgot one thing.
VardaValar1: Fire away
Eonwe Valar: The deadline for submissions will be two weeks from posting it in the Guild's WoW forum.
VardaValar1: Good to know.
Eonwe Valar: Now I'm done ;}
VardaValar1: Thank you, Eonwe. : )
VardaValar1: "That was an eye-opener and no mistake." -Sam
VardaValar1: Ar-Pharazon, do you have a WoW Europe report?
ArPharazonV: same old same old... several valarguild-members showing up from time to time, but we're hardly around the same time
FladrifV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: preparing to take down Princess Huhuran in Ahn'Qiraj, for which we need lots of nature resistance.... and I've been getting myself to about 200 this week, so that's good
ArPharazonV: got myself finally the Pristine Hide of the Beast, as well as the remaining Skins of Shadow and Abomination Stitchings.. so just 5 arcanite bars away from my epic feral chestpiece
ArPharazonV: otherwise, not much.. usual raiding, usual text-farming in Silithus... same as the last few weeks
VardaValar1: "just 5 arcanite bars"
ArPharazonV: yes, I know...
ArPharazonV: but considering I paid 500g for the Hide
VardaValar1: *wants to kick WoW for separating us from Europe*
ArPharazonV: and the rest is all Bind on Pickup
ArPharazonV: expensive or not, the arcanite is the easiest to get ;-)
VardaValar1: No argument
Menelvagor Valar: 'scuse me, but..
Menelvagor Valar: *bounce*
ArPharazonV: oh, some other members of our raidalliance just got Neutral with the Brood of Nozdormu, and have started to re-enact the quest for the Sceptre of Ahn'Qiraj
ArPharazonV: which has a lot of epic battles and very nice rewards
ArPharazonV: my turn hasn't come yet, but I'll surely become neutral next week, so I'll be on my way then :-)
VardaValar1: Go Phar : )
ArPharazonV: and that's my report for this week
ArPharazonV: probably more to tell next week!
VardaValar1: Thank you, Phar : )
VardaValar1: Did anyone play a game this last week that was not WoW? : )
ArPharazonV: bit of Guildwars earlier this week
ArPharazonV: tried to find Tuor, but he wasn't online when I was online
ArPharazonV: added him to my firendslist though
VardaValar1: Might have to email and set up a time
ArPharazonV: *friends
ArPharazonV: yup, that could be a good idea
VardaValar1: Sauron says our big comp that he's on is acting suspiciously like it's about to burn out its power supply.
Eonwe Valar: ouch
VardaValar1: Ok, pardon the interruption. We were setting up a giant fan and moving things
VardaValar1: We'll still have the smaller comp, so he can still come for the DM West if it dies
VardaValar1: Ok, back.
VardaValar1: Everyone here gets to send in an article or poem or other piece to the Tolkien site for their character or a favorite part : )
VardaValar1: You all just volunteered!
VardaValar1: Congrats. ; )
VardaValar1: Any further business?
top

VardaValar1: Tolkien Chat:
VardaValar1: In Tolkien's works, one of the greatest attractions is the world he created for our minds to roam in .
VardaValar1: For each reader, the favorite part might be different,
VardaValar1: but taken alll together it is magnificent.
VardaValar1: Which parts do each of you find a favorite?
VardaValar1: I have to go with Rivendell and the Shire for places to visit. : )
ArPharazonV: good question, that
Arwen V1: =D I like that question
Eonwe Valar: I like both the part starting with the Standoff of Gandalf and the Witch King at the gates of Minas Tirith and ending in the death of the Witch King.
Eonwe Valar: *minus "both"
VardaValar1: Sauron says his all time favorite is after they leave Moria and Frodo and Sam lag behind the Fellowship and they discover the mithril shirt, as his favorite event in the book.
VardaValar1: He likes the quote between Legolas and Gimli commenting on the hobbit skin.
VardaValar1: I actually meant places in the world, but this is more interesting. Go ahead with favorite events. : )
ArPharazonV: I think one of the favorite parts for me is the ascent of Mount Doom for Frodo and Sam, up to the point where the Eagles come to take them away
ArPharazonV: if you mean places... probably some locations in Beleriand I'd like to visit
ArPharazonV: the Caves of Menegroth in the time before the Necklace of the Dwarves, and the forests around it
Eonwe Valar: Well, places, I suppose Eregion. Still remembered the Gwaith-i-Mirdain after as long as that group of Noldor had been gone.
VardaValar1: I found the quote for Sauron's favorite, actually tween Aragorn and Gimli in chapter "Lothlorien".
VardaValar1: Lorien would be a great place to visit. : )
VardaValar1: or Fangorn, to see the ents walking.
VardaValar1: Want that quote? Nothing short in Tolkien, I fear.
ArPharazonV: the fields of Emerie on Numenor
VardaValar1: The worship place of Eru on Numenor : )
Eonwe Valar: Meneltarma :}
VardaValar1: Go ahead with favorite events, if you like. That was fun
ArPharazonV: the havens of Eldalonde and Andunie on Numenor, when the Elves came to visit
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: Aye, thanks :-) Kept thinking Menelvagor ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Aye, that should be back above the waves, so Meneltarma wouldn't be a bad place to visit.
ArPharazonV: hmm.. having a few seconds of lag here in AIM
Eonwe Valar: The furthermost lands of Romendor, so I can see the Sun rising :}
ArPharazonV: :-)
ArPharazonV: Cuivienen before the rising of the sun?
VardaValar1: Looking out from the Tower Hills over the Grey Havens with the white ships of Cirdan.
Eonwe Valar: Nay, the eastmost of eastern lands.
ArPharazonV: yes, I know, Eonwe
ArPharazonV: I just gave another location :-)
Eonwe Valar: ah, I see :}
ArPharazonV: Gondolin before its fall
Eonwe Valar: Nargothrond.
VardaValar1: Minas Tirith in the sunlight.
Eonwe Valar: Henneth Annun in the sunset :}
VardaValar1: ohhh
Menelvagor Valar: Gondolin's mine Arphie :-P
Eonwe Valar: Taniquetil in the morning :}
ArPharazonV: still a nice place, Menel ;-)
VardaValar1: Woods of Ithilien after the silvan elves did their work.
VardaValar1: The Henneth Annun one, that is such a picture.
Eonwe Valar: The smithies of Aulë.
ArPharazonV: the Golden Hall of Edoras
ArPharazonV: looking out over the fields of Rohan in the sunset :-)
Eonwe Valar: The Sea of Nurnen. I've gotta see how Sauron managed to feed his armies :}
ArPharazonV: manflesh...
Eonwe Valar: I don't think his human servants went so well for that :}
Eonwe Valar: Not his normal human servants anyway :}
VardaValar1: The seashore of the Teleri, with the pearls in the sand, elves running in the water, white swanships.
Menelvagor Valar: The Grey havens and the water glimmering red and gold in the sunset :-)
Eonwe Valar: Tirion in its prime.
VardaValar1: Eressea
ArPharazonV: the Isle of Balar
VardaValar1: Or the drama of seeing the Grinding Ice of the Helcaraxe.
Menelvagor Valar: Cuvienen when the Elves just awoke.
VardaValar1: The horses of the Rohirrim in full charge.
Menelvagor Valar: Cuivienen*
VardaValar1: Shadowfax.
VardaValar1: He's not a place, but anywhere with Shadowfax running would look great. : )
ArPharazonV: the moving forests of Fangorn, to Isengard or Helm's Deep
VardaValar1: and the eyes
Menelvagor Valar: not exactly beautiful, but definitely worth to see would be the enchanted, eerie and deadly Morgul Vale.
VardaValar1: Looking up at Orodruin.
Eonwe Valar: The gates of Mordor when Pharazon's army arrived. It'd have to be impressive to cow Sauron's army and force him to use guile.
VardaValar1: That would be a sight. : )
ArPharazonV: *grin*
Eonwe Valar: I'd say the southern areas where Ungoliant made her home, but alas, if one went there one would see nothing.
VardaValar1: The silmarils shining in the hands of Feanor.
Menelvagor Valar: Pharzie's fleet when it took sail to Valinor :-)
Eonwe Valar: Too much unlight drenching the area.
VardaValar1: The red sails
Menelvagor Valar: the ships almost drowning out the horizon.
ArPharazonV: shutting off Eressea from the light of Valinor
ArPharazonV: (btw, what light of Valinor was that? the Trees were long gone by then)
Menelvagor Valar: aye, even all of US might might not have been able to stop such a massive force :-P
ArPharazonV: oh, nvm
Menelvagor Valar: sapling, right?
ArPharazonV: according to the Akallabeth, it was not the light of Valinor, but the light of the Setting Sun that was cut off by the cloud of the Numenoreans

VardaValar1: Aragorn holds up the mithril shirt so he can treat Frodo and comments:
VardaValar1: "Look, my friends!" he called. " Here's a pretty hobbit-skin to wrap an elven-princeling in! If it were known that
VardaValar1: hobbits had such hides, all the hunters of Middle-earth would be riding to the Shire."
ArPharazonV: heh, that's funny
VardaValar1: "And all the arrows of all the hunters in the world would be in vain," said Gimli...
