Menelvagor Valar: oh, good thought :-)
Menelvagor Valar: Happy mom's day Varda :-)
VardaValar1: In behalf of other mothers. I'll make one of those attempts to make this a short one
VardaValar1: Don't want the fellow moms mad at us ;-)

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: Members News:
VardaValar1: Menelvagor has his report on his London trip.
VardaValar1: Go ahead, Menel
VardaValar1: *pokes Menelvagor*
Menelvagor Valar: aye.
Menelvagor Valar: *is poked*
Menelvagor Valar: In order to keep this as short as possible, and my reports usually being a bit overdrawn, I will stick to the shortest short long version :-P
Menelvagor Valar: We left monday morning, and after a long journey by train and boat and bus, we arrived in London.
Menelvagor Valar: The bus driver took us on a little tour through London, but due to bad airco in the bus, most of us in the back were rather short of breath and didn't get to enjoy most of the sights.
Menelvagor Valar: Tuesday we went to the Science Museum (we were divided into several groups, and we had figured our own places to visit beforehand).
Ugluk of Old has entered the room.
Ugluk of Old: Aiya!
Menelvagor Valar: The Science Museum is free of charge and has exhibitions ranging from how the brain works to 50 years of Pixar Animation.
Menelvagor Valar: Quite a spectacle I'd say, and it would take a day or 2 to see it all, so we only got to see parts.
Menelvagor Valar: It was fun though.
Menelvagor Valar: Then we went to St. Pauls, but we came after closing hours, so we decided to come back on thursday and instead went to lounge in Green Park (near Picadilly Circus).
Menelvagor Valar: Some of us got to see Buckingham Palaca close by, and a rare slip up by a guard who nearly slipped.
Menelvagor Valar: Palace*
Menelvagor Valar: Thursday we went to Cambridge, where we had planned to go to a Secondary School and follow a few lessons, but unfortunately, due to a traffic Jam, we were delayed by 2 hours, so our plans came to naught.
Menelvagor Valar: So, instead, we went shopping.
Menelvagor Valar: I got the entire Chronicles of Narnia series for 9 pounds (as well as a starter set of LotR)
Menelvagor Valar: on a small market nearby, I managed to get a hold of a couple second hand books (1976 edition Dune [w00t] and 1974 version of Watership Down [more w00t])
Menelvagor Valar: Thursday morning we visited St. Paul's Cathedral.
Menelvagor Valar: It's a magnificent sight from the outside, but the inside is magnificent.
Srekal86 has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: Mosaics with inlaid gold, a massive dome, grand paintings, the whispering gallery on the first floor (300-odd steps up)
Menelvagor Valar: and the top floor, which is at the top of the dome (590 flights of steps), gave us a truly magnificent sight over London.
Menelvagor Valar: Now, if you have weak legs, I wouldn't recommend going up there, all of us got pretty sore legs after getting down :-P
Menelvagor Valar: Afterwards, we went into Camden Town for some shopping.
Menelvagor Valar: Camden is a really great place to shop for all sorts of curiousities, mostly "weird" style and gothic-like stuff.
Menelvagor Valar: Unfortunately, as evening started to set in, Camden becomes a place frequented by addicts, so we left timely.
Menelvagor Valar: Oh, between St. Paul's and Camden we had a relaxing stay at Regent's Park.
Menelvagor Valar: Early friday morning we got on our way back home and after a gruelling journey of over 14 hours I finally got home.
Menelvagor Valar: but before I reached home, I got called by the friends I looked after their house for...
ArPharazonV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Menelvagor Valar: and as a thank you, they gave me Hadhafang (Arwen's Sword from the movies), which left me completely speechless.
ArPharazonV: decided to join the fun, just got home from dancing finals.. what section are we?
Menelvagor Valar: Members :-)
ArPharazonV: ah, nice
Menelvagor Valar: You just missed my London report.
ArPharazonV: aww!
Menelvagor Valar: shame on you Pharzie!
ArPharazonV: :-(
Menelvagor Valar: at any rate, that was it for the shortest short long version :-D
Ugluk of Old: souds like a most excellent adventure though :-)
VardaValar1: Thank you, Menelvagor
Menelvagor Valar: Certainly.
VardaValar1: hehe
Menelvagor Valar: oh, one last quick note.
Menelvagor Valar: While I was in London, I couldn't help but notice how busy the city is, always moving, but it has a sense of calm on it... much like it has always been that way, and will always be...
Nemoeverlonely: Namarie everyone, I must go:-(
Nemoeverlonely has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar: don't know how to describe it entirely..
ArPharazonV: serenity?
Menelvagor Valar: but I think it would be a great place to live (that is, if you don't mind getting stuck in traffic jams or overcrowded trains or subways)
Menelvagor Valar: that would be closest, Phar.
TH0R0NGIL has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: oh yes, the one thing you see most in London is "Mind The Gap"
Menelvagor Valar: It's one of those slogans for the Underground to mind the space between the metro trains and the platform :-)
Menelvagor Valar: and now I'll stop, lest it become the shortest long version :-P
Menelvagor Valar: or I can go on to fill the silence :-P
VardaValar1: Pardon, lot of side windows
Menelvagor Valar: so I figured :-)
Ugluk of Old: hey it was very interesting :}
Star of Phaet: indeed
ArPharazonV: indeed it was! for what I heard ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: It sure was!
Menelvagor Valar: Including getting off the boat and meeting a very good-looking and really nice lass :-)
ArPharazonV: ooh, details!
Menelvagor Valar: no details as of yet.. we had little time to talk then, and a few hours in the past 2 days, but nothing conclusive yet :-P
Ugluk of Old: good thing you put the "l" in there :-)
Menelvagor Valar: besides, she lives closer to you than to me Pharzie.
Menelvagor Valar: what "l" Ugluk? :-P
ArPharazonV: in that case, details for sure!
ArPharazonV: I assume he means in lass...
Menelvagor Valar: lol
VardaValar1: Maybe side window : )
Menelvagor Valar: spoken like a true Orc.
Ugluk of Old: hehe
Menelvagor Valar: oh, wouldn't matter, no details will be given.
Menelvagor Valar: I spotted her first :-D
Ugluk of Old: sorry ;-)
VardaValar1: hehe
Menelvagor Valar: nothing to be sorry about Ugluk :-) puts the "pe" on "nache" :-D
Ugluk of Old: :-D
VardaValar1: In further member news, Barahir turned 15
ArPharazonV: congratulations!
VardaValar1: Any other member news?
Menelvagor Valar: did I mention I am now the proud owner of Hadhafang? 8-)
Menelvagor Valar: or at least one of those made :-P
VardaValar1: Congrats : )
ArPharazonV: Hadhafang is a symbol of one of the greatest corruptions of the movie of the Fellowship of the Ring...
ArPharazonV: be proud to have it in your possession ;-)
VardaValar1: "Arwen's sword"? : )
ArPharazonV: yup
Menelvagor Valar: well, they did thought of an interesting story behind it.
VardaValar1: It's nice to have a sword, even a weird one
VardaValar1: Please don't tell us right now : )
Menelvagor Valar: it's supposed to have belonged to Idril.
Menelvagor Valar: whoops, too late
VardaValar1: I've heard it before, bogus
VardaValar1: Idril with a sword too
VardaValar1: It's fun just to have a sword though. Have fun with it!
VardaValar1: Any further member news?
ArPharazonV: my dancing finals today!
ArPharazonV: that's why I was late, wasn't even sure if I was gonna show up at all
VardaValar1: How did you do, Phar?
ArPharazonV: had to get my bus before we heard the results, but my dance partner on MSN just told me it varies between a 7.5 and 8.5, out of 10... so not all too bad :-)
VardaValar1: Congrats for having the bravery to do it. : )
Ugluk of Old: very good :-)
ArPharazonV: since our technique has some major problems, it was quite good indeed :-)
ArPharazonV: thanks, very nervous... we were the only ones dancing Goldstar, so a lot of pressure on us :-)
VardaValar1: Unique helps
Ugluk of Old: Orcs...just stumble around on dance floors :}
VardaValar1: But everyone stays out of your way ;-)
Ugluk of Old: hehe
VardaValar1: Any further member news?
ArPharazonV: but now that that's over with, back to normal dancing nights on wednesday and sunday, throughout the summer... it should be quite fun again
ArPharazonV: and that's my member news
VardaValar1: ah best to have fun with it, as well as keeping you fit.
VardaValar1: Thanks Phar

VardaValar1: Web News:
VardaValar1: Tolkien Art:
VardaValar1: new piece by Elwing-(V)
VardaValar1: "Elleth Muse"
VardaValar1: She's working on another, hoping to have it colored, researching outfit
VardaValar1: hasn't said what the subject is yet though.
VardaValar1: Other work has been done on the site, but not yet visible
VardaValar1: The art page updates to speed up loading should come online this coming week.
VardaValar1: And other work
VardaValar1: Menelvagor has been working on the WoW Europe page
VardaValar1: He is trying to update it and put it online even as this line is being typed. : )
VardaValar1: Once it goes online, Menel, be sure to let us know!
VardaValar1: Plus URL, of course

VardaValar1: Gaming News:
VardaValar1: Which games besides WoW have you folks played this week?
VardaValar1: (I tried to upload the Hobbit, but needed a better comp for it)
VardaValar1: Phar, do you have a WoW Europe report?
ArPharazonV: concerning valar-members, had some contact with Fladrif and his alt, Skjold, who has now joined an RP-guild (his alt that is, Fladrif is still in our main guild)
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: he seems to enjoy it, do not know for how long :-)
Tuor Dramborleg has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: our raiding guild has made some good progress in Ahn'Qiraj, slaying Battleguard Sartura and Fankriss the Unyielding for the first time
ArPharazonV: we are now facing the actual hard bosses of this instance, which need a good amount of nature-resistance... as such, nr-items is our next focus
ArPharazonV: as for me, I've decided to put quite some effort in obtaining a Pristine Hide for my cat-chestpiece, at 450 gold I should be coming closer to acquiring one for a decent price
ArPharazonV: in my free time I'm farming Silithus for reputation, but I will probably be spending next week getting items from Maraudon etc for my nature-resistance :-)
ArPharazonV: and that's it for WoW, I have some other tidbits for other games I've played, but those can wait until later
VardaValar1: Thanks, Ar-Pharazon!
VardaValar1: WoW Lothar report, from Eonwe. Take it away, Eonwe!
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: First: Happy Mother's Day to the Mother's of the Valar Guild! :}
Eonwe Valar: *Mothers :}
Eonwe Valar: Guild Questing:
Eonwe Valar: First, Merry, Varda and I got together to show some orphans some landmarks in Azeroth for Chiuldren's Week. After losing their parents in the Third War, we thought they could use a little fun :}
Eonwe Valar: After this, we joined with Sauron and Turin to take a crack at Stratholme.
ArPharazonV: oh, we did that too! Me and 2 others even took our orphans on a tour through the Molten Core ;-)
Eonwe Valar: A couple of us didn't have Egan's Blaster, so we tried to find the guy who would send us to him, but we couldn't.
VardaValar1: We didn't try reallly hard though
Eonwe Valar: We went into Stratholme, freeing the spirits of the people of Stratholme from their undead bodies as we marhed through.
Eonwe Valar: *marched
Eonwe Valar: We eventually came across Frias' tobacco shop, and grabbed the tobacco for a Dwarf trader back at Light's Hope Chapel.
Eonwe Valar: *Fras Siabi
Eonwe Valar: His undead corpse wasn't happy about it though, and we had to put him to rest as well.
LiberalHound has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: We managed to make it through to the part of Stratholme populated by the Scarlet Crusade, only to be stopped short of our entrance by Timmy.
Eonwe Valar: By that time, the Undead had taken back the gates to the city, and we were forced to call it a night.
Eonwe Valar: We did get at least one quest done for most of us though. Two of us got the freed spirits and at least one of us got the tobacco.
VardaValar1: And all of us had good company, pleasant lot to game with.
Eonwe Valar: We did a good job for our first trip in.
Eonwe Valar: Company was good and the fight was fun.
Eonwe Valar: Later on that night, I managed to get the last 40 gold I needed for the first phase of my Paladin epic mount quest, so now it's just gathering a couple more items.
Eonwe Valar: And that completes my WoW Lothar report.
VardaValar1: Thank you, Eonwe : )
Eonwe Valar: *bow*
VardaValar1: Menelvagor has some excellent news for us, WoW related. Go ahead, Menel.
Menelvagor Valar: Last week, Varda and I figured we might as well get a WoW members page for european members, to allow them to get together more easily.
Menelvagor Valar: So, I went to work and created said page.
Menelvagor Valar: However, my FTP prog (prog for uploading shizzle) didn't recognize the new space on the server, so couldn't upload it.
Menelvagor Valar: That problem has been dealt with (how I don't know, nor care, as long as it's fixed)
Menelvagor Valar: the page can be seen on http://valarguild.org/menelvagor/wow/wowframe.html
Menelvagor Valar: to access it, click the "europe" button.
Menelvagor Valar: The page is exactly the same as the Lothar page, except that it has an added "server" slot in the table.
ArPharazonV: Fladrif is not a Druid, but a Hunter :-)
VardaValar1: The page came right up.
VardaValar1: Might have to change the Members button to show Americas now
Menelvagor Valar: smart me :P
Menelvagor Valar: will change that right away :-)
VardaValar1: Now you have something to work with! Excellent!
VardaValar1: While Menel works away on that, : )
VardaValar1: Lord of the Rings Online is now taking beta sign-ups.
VardaValar1: If you show that you are in a guild, your chances are better, and so is the guild's chance.
VardaValar1: Also, please drop by the Valar Thread on LotRO and say hi, so we can all add each other to our Buddy lists on that forum.
Menelvagor Valar: doing some minor updates now (such as getting a mailto at the bottom for update purposes)
VardaValar1: Many of us have already signed up. Good luck to us all in actually going in!
VardaValar1: Please let us know if you make it
VardaValar1: If they don't allow you to tell anything, that's ok. We just want to know you made it!
VardaValar1: But if they do allow you to talk, we'd love to hear.
VardaValar1: Any comments on LotRO?
Eonwe Valar: So far, they have no plans for raiding, so the largest groups seem to be about 10-man (Fellowship size) from what I've been reading.
Menelvagor Valar: I signed up, and sent them an email regarding my situation in Europe.
Eonwe Valar: Sounds like a good place for people who want to have fun and have a chance to advance their characters without having the millions of hours for raiding at their disposal.
Eonwe Valar: I.E. people with jobs, families, other obligations... :}
ArPharazonV: indeed, indeed... if it wasn't for the fact that I don't feel like paying 2 subscriptions, I'd certainly get it for whenever I'm bored with WoW :-)
Eonwe Valar: That's what it's looking like to me at least :}
VardaValar1: a...life?
Eonwe Valar: I didn't want to say it, Varda, but yes :}
VardaValar1: We will probably be running both for a while
Eonwe Valar: They've also said there will be some form of PvP, but one that fits within the lore, and that we should be pleasantly surprised.
Eonwe Valar: Btw, check out the Turbine E3 pics. The character models look pretty good.
Menelvagor Valar: updated the page and now shows Fladrif as Hunter, and Pharzie with specified skills.
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: We can have fun nit-picking the game. : )
Eonwe Valar: Those are my comments.
Eonwe Valar: Nothing further at this time, your honor :}
VardaValar1: Thank you, your equal honor. : )
VardaValar1: Tuor is visiting with us today, intending to interview and test.
VardaValar1: So we need a Maia who can handle the Tolkien chat today. Volunteers? If none, we will pick a Full Member.
VardaValar1: Anyone currently present, please type Aye
VardaValar1: Aye
Menelvagor Valar: Aye
ArPharazonV: Aye
TH0R0NGIL: Aye
Eonwe Valar: Aye
ArPharazonV: 5/14... not bad :-)
Star of Phaet: Aye-ish
Star of Phaet: (I have to be awkward)
VardaValar1: Truthful : )
Star of Phaet: hehe
VardaValar1: Eonwe and I will be stepping out with Tuor, but we type fast and watch both rooms at once.
VardaValar1: So we may be just as active as the rest of you
Star of Phaet: I'm here, but doing other things and flipping windows, so I'm nto totally here
Menelvagor Valar: Since Pharzie usually is one of the big chatterers, I nominate Pharzie to lead the Tolkien chat :-)
ArPharazonV: hey hey! more gaming news! not Tolkien yet!
ArPharazonV: but whisper me some Tolkien topics until then :-)
VardaValar1: Who here knows why Tuor was important in the books, for when you get to Tolkien. ;-)
VardaValar1: Gwaihir, are you available?
ArPharazonV: Tuor.. Tuor... swans come to mind! ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: Tuor... my son in law...
Menelvagor Valar: oh wait!
ArPharazonV: in any case, some tidbit for Eonwe!
Menelvagor Valar: that was before I turned into a blazing set of suns :-)
ArPharazonV: I've finished both campaigns for Battle for Middle-Earth 2 this week, and found something quite interesting
Eonwe Valar: Before I go: Draenei are the Alliance race coming up in the Expansion for WoW, if you haven't yet read my announcements on the Games Page and Forum :}
Eonwe Valar: Do share, Phar
ArPharazonV: one of the Powers you can acquire for Good, involves summoning a merry little fellow with a big hat, who sings when you select him, dances when he moves, and gives a nice melody when you summon him
ArPharazonV: he takes a huge lot of damage, a nice tank for your troops, and can do some damage too, including a blastwave he can do.. he disappears quickly, but fun to summon
VardaValar1: :-)
ArPharazonV: and his name... is Tom Bombadil!
Eonwe Valar: So I did see him in that gameplay footage. THanks :}
ArPharazonV: indeed, you did
ArPharazonV: quite a merry fellow, my favorite ability to use ;-)
LiberalHound has left the room.
ArPharazonV: I've also played some Guildwars, not sure if any of you still want to play it
ArPharazonV: Fladrif has said he's considering buying it, not sure about any others among you
ArPharazonV: still getting to know it, but so far my elementalist/monk seems to be doing quite well :-)
ArPharazonV: it would be fun to find a group of even a small guild with some Valarguild people!
ArPharazonV: it's lonely by my own, but I'm not sure if I want to go through the trouble of finding a community from scratch... was very very lucky with Menelvagor inviting me to the WoW guild when I created my first character
ArPharazonV: so if some of you are interested, that would be great news!
top

ArPharazonV: allright, Tolkien
ArPharazonV: got 0 topics so far, so it should be good
VardaValar1: We do have some who play
VardaValar1: I gave you one, Phar in the chat
ArPharazonV: yes, was gonna suggest that one :-)
ArPharazonV: ok, Varda's topic!
ArPharazonV: VardaValar1: Who here knows why Tuor was important in the books, for when you get to Tolkien. ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: I do.
ArPharazonV: and at Tolkien we are, so the question: why was Tuor, son of Huor, important in the books (note, the Silmarillion)
ArPharazonV: share with us, Menelvagor!
Menelvagor Valar: Tuor, son of Huor, son of Galdor, son of Hador Goldenhaid, of the Edain.
Menelvagor Valar: Tuor was born into a war-torn Middle-Earth just prior (or just after) Morgoth broke the Siege of Thangorodrim.
Tuor Dramborleg: Gondolin! Sent to their aid by the Valar Ulmo.
Menelvagor Valar: He spent his childhood in hiding, and eventually ventured to Hithlum and the Halls of Vinyamar, where Turgon once dwelled.
Menelvagor Valar: Aye, there, he received by Ulmo the charge to warn Turgon of the impending danger.
Menelvagor Valar: he there arrayed himself in the armor crafted by Turgon's smiths at Ulmo's command and cloaked himself in a strip of cloth from Ulmo's cloak.
Menelvagor Valar: The cloak itself was shadow, as it was crafted from some unknown material from the deepest part of the ocean, where Ulmo is Lord.
Menelvagor Valar: He received Voronwë (which means steadfast) the Last of the Mariners, saved from Ossë's wrath as a guide to Gondolin.
Menelvagor Valar: With Ulmo's cloak, Tuor and Voronwë travelled through many perils, but reached Gondolin unharmed and unseen.
Menelvagor Valar: There they passed through the Seven Gates of Gondolin until they reached the Seven Fountains, where Ecthelion welcomed him.
Menelvagor Valar: At first, he was received with suspicion, but at throwing aside Ulmo's cloak, and arrayed as he was in Turgon's livery from Nevrast, there was no doubt left.
Menelvagor Valar: yet, his coming was not received too well by Maeglin, son of Eöl the dark elf and Aredhel, sister to Turgon.
Menelvagor Valar: Maeglin was already high in the council of Turgon.
Menelvagor Valar: Also, as Tuor's stay in Gondolin lengthened, Idril fell in love with him, and Maeglin hated Tuor for it.
Menelvagor Valar: For Maeglin secretly loved Idril, while Idril held no love for him.
Menelvagor Valar: Thus, as Idril and Tuor were wedded with Turgon's ascent, Maeglin withdrew to the mountains which he mined.
Menelvagor Valar: There, eventually he dug through the Echoriath and ventured outside.
Menelvagor Valar: There, on one of his outings, he was captured by Morgoth's spies, and eventually, he budged under Morgoth's will and betrayed Gondolin to Morgoth on the promise of receiving Idril as his prize.
Menelvagor Valar: In the time that Morgoth took to surround the Echoriath and prepare his armies.
Menelvagor Valar: Silmarillion states that there were scores of Orcs, many Balrogs (as far as I can make out, at least hundred) as well as a dozen wingless dragons.
Menelvagor Valar: In that time, Idril bore Tuor a son, and they named him Earendil.
ArPharazonV: well, keep in mind that the Silmarillion was revised to the point that there were like 7 balrogs at most... but this was never carried through into the story of Gondolin
Menelvagor Valar: True, but still, that means that at least 5 were killed in Gondolin.
ArPharazonV: true
Menelvagor Valar: to continue...
Menelvagor Valar: when Gondolin finally was besieged, Gondolin might yet have been victorios if it hadn't been for Maeglin's final betrayal.
Menelvagor Valar: for Maeglin assaulted the Gondolindrim, with the particular purpose of capturing Idril.
Menelvagor Valar: Yet Idril had evaded him, and gathering as many people about her as she could, and fought his people where she could not run.
Menelvagor Valar: In the end, Tuor got news of Idril's plight and he broke off from the defense of the Central Plaza (after killing 2 Balrogs and aiding in the killing of a Great Wyrm in the main fountain, which covered half the city in a thick fog..
Menelvagor Valar: -like steam)
Menelvagor Valar: he then fought his way through the city to reach Idril, where he found her on the city walls waylaid by Maeglin.
Menelvagor Valar: Maeglin and Tuor struggled upon the high walls of Gondolin, until finally, Tuor cast Maeglin down, just as Eöl had predicted.
Menelvagor Valar: Idril and Turgon then fled the city, as it was lost, with as many people as they could, through a tunnel they had prepared in secret, which led north onto the plain of Tum Laden.
Menelvagor Valar: Then, in the high passes of the northern reaches of the Echoriath, they were waylaid by a Balrog and his party.
Menelvagor Valar: but Glorfindel sacrificed himself and flung himself unto the Balrog and off the steep precipice to secure the Gondolindrim's escape.
Menelvagor Valar: then the Great Eagles of Manwë came and bore his body back to the pass, where he was buried, and Orcs feared that place ever after (for as long as it lasted)
Menelvagor Valar: Idril and Tuor then passed to the Havens at the Bay of Balar, where Cirdan dwelt.
Menelvagor Valar: there they raised their son Earendil, who later married Elwing, daughter of Dior Eluchil (Thingol's heir), son of Beren and Luthien.
Menelvagor Valar: Tuor and Idril eventually took ship and ventured the Shadow Seas and the Enchanted Isles to seek Valinor and seek pardon for Elves and Men alike.
Menelvagor Valar: But they did not succeed, nor return. It is unknown what fate they met.
Menelvagor Valar: However, their son, Earendil, and his wife, Elwing, took ship as well and the ship was called Vingilot.
Menelvagor Valar: Or rather, Earendil took ship for a long time, until at long last Elwing joined him and sew the Silmaril Beren had stolen from Morgoth's crown upon Earendil's brow.
Menelvagor Valar: Then they crossed the Shadow Sea, and passed the Enchanted Isles and reached Valinor.
Bior the Ythling has entered the room.
Bior the Ythling: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: Heya
Menelvagor Valar: There Earendil went unto Taniquetil, for it was a day of feasts in Valinor and went before the Valar and sought pardon for the Edain and Eldar/
Menelvagor Valar: He was granted the pardon, and Vingilot was hallowed and would sail the winds with the Valar as they landed on the shores of Beleriand to do battle with the hosts of Morgoth.
Menelvagor Valar: the battle was hard, and the earth rumbled and shook, the waters of Beleriand cooked and the entire land was changed and drowned under water in the end.
Menelvagor Valar: in the last terrible battle of the War of Wrath, at Thangorodrim, Earendil slew Ancalagon, father of the Winged Dragons and threw him down on Thangorodrim, and it's three peaks crumbled in it's fall.
Menelvagor Valar: Then Morgoth came out and humbled himself before the Valar and he was chained and cast into the Void.
Menelvagor Valar: Then Earendil was set with the task to fly Vingilot across the heavens with the Silmaril shining on his brow, as the brightest star yet.
Eonwe Valar: I remember Morgoth cowering in his deepest pit and having to be drug out of Thangorodrim.
Menelvagor Valar: And so ends the story of Tuor and his importance to Middle-Earth.
Menelvagor Valar: Could be, it's a while ago since I read the entire thing.
Ugluk of Old: Very good :}
ArPharazonV: Very good, Menelvagor! Excellent ...summary!
Menelvagor Valar: And considering it's a combination of Silmarillion, Book of Lost Tales 2 and Unfinished Tales.
Eonwe Valar: I hope I'm right, as I was there leading the army :}
VardaValar1: The question was why Tuor was important, and that seemed to cover it : )
ArPharazonV: indeed it did
Ugluk of Old: and then some :}
Eonwe Valar: Also, Tuor was the only Man to be counted amongst the Eldar :}
Menelvagor Valar: well, Tuor has a close relation to Turgon, through Idril, and everyone knows my infatuation with Turgon :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Menelvagor Valar: aye Eonwe :-)
Menelvagor Valar: it would not do for me not to know the story *grin*
Eonwe Valar: Another fun tidbit I just love bringing up: Tuor and Turin actually did cross paths in their sparate journeys.
ArPharazonV: ah, yes
ArPharazonV: at the pools of Ivrin, I think they were called?
Menelvagor Valar: they did, although they did not know it.
Menelvagor Valar: indeed.
Eonwe Valar: Aye, the pools of Ivrin
Bior the Ythling has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar: Turin mourned the defiled pools as Tuor passed by.
Menelvagor Valar: as I recall, just a year or so before Turin slew Glaurung.
Menelvagor Valar: also, an interesting tidbit, at the Battle of Unnumbered Tears, where Huor and Hurin defended Turgon's retreating Vanguard, Huor spoke to Turgon in Maeglin's presence.
Menelvagor Valar: Huor said that from Turgon and Huor a light should spring that would save both the Eldar and Edain.
ArPharazonV: Turin was coming south from Nargothrond to Hithlum, to succour his mother and sister, as Tuor and Voronwe passed at the pools, and saw him, but knew him not
Menelvagor Valar: Huor's wife at that moment was highly pregnant.

After-meeting:
ArPharazonV: (sorry for being late, spent 3 minutes finding the correct spelling)
VardaValar1: Thank you! Spelling really helps for look ups
ArPharazonV: actually, I meant the word "soccour", seemingly with alternative soccur ;-)
Eonwe Valar: succour is how I usually see it, but it's usually in Tolkien, and he's from Britain, and that's the spelling they use :}
Eonwe Valar: Don't think I see it much outside of Tolkien.
ArPharazonV: eh, yes
ArPharazonV: succour, not soccour
ArPharazonV: also, *succor instead of soccur
ArPharazonV: I search minutes for the spelling and then I still mess it up ;-)
Eonwe Valar: I understood what you meant, was referring mainly to the -our and -or endings :}
ArPharazonV: right, right, figured that, that's why I chose -our
Menelvagor Valar: -our being english, -or being american if I'm not mistaken.
Eonwe Valar: when we use such a "fancy" word, aye :}
ArPharazonV: english is much fancier than american :-)
ArPharazonV: that's why I like it better ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Same language, different dialects :}
Eonwe Valar: but aye, some words are just look better with that British dialect.
Ugluk of Old: quite right...you say :-);-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: *some words just look better with that British dialect.
Tuor Dramborleg has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Honour being one of them :}
ArPharazonV: aye, among many... honour, colour, armour... succour :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: You like that our ending : )
ArPharazonV: I do :-)
Tuor Dramborleg has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: I don't use it much though, I usually type the "american" dialect out of ease I guess
Eonwe Valar: Has a better feel and sound when you draw it out :"onoor" as opposed to "oner", rough pronuciation examples there.
VardaValar1: I draw everything out. ; )
Eonwe Valar: :}
Ugluk of Old: Especially in Texas :}
ArPharazonV: well, I never talk in English.. and when I think in English, dialect doesn't matter as much :-)
ArPharazonV: there, finally finished writing my wishlist for raid-loot, up to C'Thun... I'm done until Naxxramas ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: oh yes it does.
ArPharazonV: well, I don't notice it that much in any case :-)
Menelvagor Valar: I'm still having trouble getting my "th's" right.
FladrifV: time to be hasty! /me runs to his place in the forrest
ArPharazonV: Namarie, Fladrif! And be sure to give Menelvagor your alts and professions :0
ArPharazonV: *:-)
Eonwe Valar: Take care :}
Menelvagor Valar: aye, please do Fladrif :-)
Eonwe Valar: Drink deep the draughts of the Entwash :}
Menelvagor Valar: that too :-D
VardaValar1: bye!
Menelvagor Valar: and take a lot of sunshine and of course starlight :-)
VardaValar1: Plenty available to ents!
VardaValar1: Special order.
FladrifV: /me roots the ground and gets some rest
ArPharazonV: I wonder if Fladrif has started thinking in Swedish yet :-)
Menelvagor Valar: Namarie, Fladrif.
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
FladrifV: hej då
Ugluk of Old: Namarie FladrifV
Eonwe Valar: Guten Abend :}
Ugluk of Old: and I too will say Ga'day to ya and see ya'll in WoW ;};-)
ArPharazonV: let me guess, you're an Orc? ;-)
Ugluk of Old: Namrie
Ugluk of Old: :-D
Menelvagor Valar: :-X
Ugluk of Old: Namarie
ArPharazonV: :-$
Menelvagor Valar: Namarie, Ugluk
Ugluk of Old: :-\
VardaValar1: Hey
Eonwe Valar: Mach's Gut, Ugluk :}
Ugluk of Old: bye :-)
Ugluk of Old has left the room.
VardaValar1: Could you guys tell Ugluk how
VardaValar1: too late
ArPharazonV: how what?
VardaValar1: to do a window version of WoW?
Eonwe Valar: It's in the interface
Eonwe Valar: you just select the windowed version checkbox.
VardaValar1: I made that guess, and he was going to try it, so he'll be ok. Thanks!
Eonwe Valar: mp :}
FladrifV has left the room.
VardaValar1: caught him in a side window. : )
ArPharazonV: oh, good :-)
STEvilaim has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Hey Scatha
STEvilaim: 'lo
VardaValar1: Good to see you again : )
ArPharazonV: dragon! *flees*
STEvilaim: finally got trillian setup on my laptop
VardaValar1: Congrats : )
VardaValar1: Declaring After-meeting!
VardaValar1: *bangs gavel*
VardaValar1: Free talk time
ArPharazonV: *I'm free! Freeeee!*
ArPharazonV: anyway, so, Tom Bombadil in BfME 2!
ArPharazonV: always good for a laugh, even in the thick of battle ;-)
STEvilaim: ok, now that after-meeting has been declared and I have permission to talk about this, i'd like to ask if any of you currently participate in Distributed-Computing projets (folding@home, seti@home, or others)?
ArPharazonV: does negligable damage, but is always good for a short distraction, and cheap..
ArPharazonV: no, never heard of such projects
STEvilaim: one answer, thats all? ;-)
Star of Phaet: I've never heard of them either
STEvilaim: guess i'd better define what it is first off then ;-)
ArPharazonV: Eonwe and Varda are busy testing a possible new member
ArPharazonV: but define away :-)
Star of Phaet: I'm off, though
Star of Phaet: namarie folks
Star of Phaet has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Namarie
STEvilaim: Distributed Computing is basically where we install a client-side program on our computer which downloads work from a server which is processed and then sent back for analysis..
ArPharazonV: oh, that does sound familiar
STEvilaim: depending on the project chosen, the work units could be about aids, cancer, aliens, or tracing the pathways of the internet (dimes)
ArPharazonV: I think I had something like that once, was guaranteed it wouldn't slow down my pc... by the end it did so much I had to remove it ;-)
STEvilaim: yeah, some will do that
STEvilaim: Generally they are all low on the priority list (so when you play a game or movie the dont do work) but some just have trouble..
ArPharazonV: don't remember the details.... but switching it off every time I wanted to do anything else became so annoying, as well as making for a very short time that I would actually have it on... just figured it not worth it
ArPharazonV: so I removed it, and never participated in something like that again :-)
STEvilaim: anyways, i'm currently doing the project rosetta@home for the team xtremesystems.org (i also do moderation on the forums) and...
STEvilaim: I was just wondering if any of you guys might be interested in joinging the team as "Valar_name" or whatever you'd like.
Tuor Dramborleg has left the room.
STEvilaim: currently the rosetta@home project is doing a small challenge called "CASP7" and the top producing team will get their name mentioned in a book about distributed computing and a scientific paper..
ArPharazonV: how's the competition? ;-)
STEvilaim: XS is the number one producer but we are being challenged by FreeDC, so obviously this has initiated a bit of a membership drive for the project ;-)
ArPharazonV: with how many are you now?
Tuor Dramborleg has entered the room.
STEvilaim: lemme check
STEvilaim: ~100 people
VardaValar1: Might give the URL?
STEvilaim: http://stats.free-dc.org/new/teamstats.php?p roj=rah&team=XtremeSystems
STEvilaim: thats the stats page
STEvilaim: this is the forum for the project (on XS) http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/forum display.php?f=193
GwaihirValar has left the room.
STEvilaim: I gotta run, thanks for letting me talk guys. If you need to contact anyone and i'm not online just throw me a PM on the XS site
ArPharazonV: will do! Namarie!
STEvilaim has left the room.
ArPharazonV: sooo.... anyone still in here?
Eonwe Valar: Menel and I still testing, Varda enjoying Mother's Day Meal.
ArPharazonV: how's testing going?
ArPharazonV: anyway, doesn't seem there will be much more chat here before I go to sleep... I think I'll save and send, and farm Silithus a bit before bed
ArPharazonV: Namarie then!
Eonwe Valar: Take care :}
Tuor Dramborleg has left the room.
MrMonkey2002Blah has left the room.
Tuor Dramborleg has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Everyone, Tuor has passed his test and is now Tuor-(V) :}
Menelvagor Valar: anyone still around?
Tuor Dramborleg: *bows in greeting*
ArPharazonV: hmm.... decided to stick around anyway, glad that I did so
ArPharazonV: so yes, I'm around :-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
Menelvagor Valar: good :-)
ArPharazonV: Congratulations Tuor!
Eonwe Valar: Then you get to be the third to welcome Tuor to the Valar Guild :}
ArPharazonV: welcome, ancestor!
Tuor Dramborleg: Hehe, thanks!
Eonwe Valar: Anything you'd like to ask at this point, Tuor?
Tuor Dramborleg: Not particularly, just thank you!
Eonwe Valar: Ok :}
Tuor Dramborleg: I look forward to chatting and gaming with you all.
Eonwe Valar: As do we with you :}
Menelvagor Valar: aye at that, Eonwe.
ArPharazonV: what games do you play?
Tuor Dramborleg: Just Guild Wars, and The Two Towers LP MUD currently.
Menelvagor Valar: and Guild Wars, right?
Menelvagor Valar: doh
Eonwe Valar: :}
Tuor Dramborleg: Yup : P
ArPharazonV: Guild Wars, eh?
Menelvagor Valar: reading too fast :-)
ArPharazonV: just started playing that game.... are you far in?
Tuor Dramborleg: Haven't had a lot of time due to school, I guess almost beaten with one character, have another on it's way and just got Factions the other day
Tuor Dramborleg: I tend to roleplay my characters up rather than take the level 20 pvp option
Tuor Dramborleg: Hit me up on this name or Mordeth Strongbow sometime :)
ArPharazonV: I see
Eonwe Valar: Mordeth, eh? Any particular place that name is from?
ArPharazonV: well, I just got the original, don't have Factions yet
ArPharazonV: just got my first character to level... 5, I think
Tuor Dramborleg: Strongbow from Beleg : P Mordeth from the Wheel of Time
Eonwe Valar: As I thought :}
Tuor Dramborleg: Oh awesome, yeah I can totally help you out if you would like whenever I'm on.
ArPharazonV: I used my standard gaming name, Calaron, as a mix of Calion, Pharazon, and Alcarondas :-)
Tuor Dramborleg: Hehe
Tuor Dramborleg: We don't have a formal guild branch there, do we?
Eonwe Valar: On Guild Wars? no.
ArPharazonV: seeing as I already decided to specialize in water (elementalist) I called him Calaron Cloudburst
Menelvagor Valar: Mordeth or Ordeith or Padan Fain :-D
ArPharazonV: btw, where are you from? I play in Europe, but I know there are international districts
Tuor Dramborleg: *chuckles and nods*
Tuor Dramborleg: Aye, I'm in the States, in California.
ArPharazonV: ahh, allright
ArPharazonV: I'll add you to a friendslist (assuming they have one) and perhaps we can meet up in one of those districts some time
Tuor Dramborleg: *nod* Sounds great : )
ArPharazonV: Mordeth Strongbow and Tuor Dramborleg?
Tuor Dramborleg: Aye
ArPharazonV: ok, will do!
ArPharazonV: got any guild-group-community thingy?
Tuor Dramborleg: I assume Calaron Cloudburst is your main?
ArPharazonV: aye
ArPharazonV: it's my only one at the moment :-)
Tuor Dramborleg: I think you only need to add my main (Mordeth Strongbow) and all my alts will follow suit.
ArPharazonV: oh, cool
ArPharazonV: don't expect me to be on an awful lot though, I'm fairly entrenched in World of Warcraft... but I do plan on playing with Cloudburst at least a few hours a week, mostly at night (so evening for you)
ArPharazonV: well, early evening for you... my bedtime at 3am is probably around dinner time for you, if not sooner
Tuor Dramborleg: Alrighty, sounds good. I do need need to try WoW sometime. My younger brother has an account. What server is everyone one?
ArPharazonV: California, you said?
Tuor Dramborleg: Hehe, yea
ArPharazonV: GMT - how much?
Eonwe Valar: Lothar is our official Guild server on WoW
ArPharazonV: American server for WoW is Lothar
ArPharazonV: and indeed, official guild server
ArPharazonV: if you by a strange twist of fate some day end up on Europe, we're on Argent Dawn
Menelvagor Valar: GMT - 9 if I´m correct.
ArPharazonV: hmm...
Tuor Dramborleg: 8
Tuor Dramborleg: Close though
ArPharazonV: that's... 10 hours
Menelvagor Valar: oh yes, Alaska is - 9
ArPharazonV: ouch?
ArPharazonV: I'm confused.. we +1 or +2? it seems to change with season
Menelvagor Valar: which means it´s 19:50 over there.
Menelvagor Valar: +1.
ArPharazonV: +1? makes sense
ArPharazonV: well, that makes a 9 hour difference then
Menelvagor Valar: since Daylight Saving Time (or summertime) starts differently, we´re at +2 twice a year.
Tuor Dramborleg: I hate to run but I must be off.
ArPharazonV: could work, me around midnight and you in the afternoon
Tuor Dramborleg: I'll be sure to read through the forums and the site and get all caught up on what's going on.
ArPharazonV: ok! Namárië!
Menelvagor Valar: oh, that explains how I got it wrong lol.
Tuor Dramborleg: Thanks again, cheers!
ArPharazonV: we'll see you around!
Eonwe Valar: Take care :}
Tuor Dramborleg has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar: I was counting from GMT +1 :-P
ArPharazonV: hehe
ArPharazonV: anyway, I must be off too!
ArPharazonV: it's very very late ;-)
ArPharazonV: I'll be saving and sending, and will see you all somewhere next week!
Eonwe Valar: Sure thing :}
Eonwe Valar: Take care and sleep well :}
Nemoeverlonely has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: heya
Nemoeverlonely: Aiya
ArPharazonV: saved
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Phar :}
Nemoeverlonely: would any of you guys mind if I do some shameless advertisement?
Menelvagor Valar: depends on what you are going to advertise for.
Eonwe Valar: Aye
Eonwe Valar: Depends on what you're advertising.
Nemoeverlonely: it applies only to north america - but its basically online shopping
Nemoeverlonely: are any of you familiar with the Quixtar.com website or business model?
Eonwe Valar: I don't shop online. I wouldn't be a very good candidate.
Eonwe Valar: Afraid I'm not familiar with Quixtar either.
Nemoeverlonely: What if you saved money and got good products?(im not only sayin that because im paid too, im fairly direct about the benefits and detriments)
Nemoeverlonely: basically their only form of advertisement comes in the form of IBO's like myself who spread the product through word of mouth
Menelvagor Valar: well, truth be said, I kind of abhor online advertisement.
Nemoeverlonely: I get paid on bringing them business - some things of interest are their ranked #1 online sales for health and beauty products...#14 overall sales
Eonwe Valar: I think this is advertising I'd like to avoid letting in the meeting channel. No offense, but I don't want memebers to be inundated with marketing every time they come to a meeting :}
Menelvagor Valar: if I find any in my mailbox, I delete them straight away.
Nemoeverlonely: I do to - when its cheap and non-personal
Nemoeverlonely: aye - tis why I waited till the aftermeeting times
Menelvagor Valar: I was coming to that, Eonwe :-)
ArPharazonV: sent
Nemoeverlonely: and its a one-time thing:-)
Eonwe Valar: THanks Phar
Nemoeverlonely: tis why I said shamless advertisement;-)
Eonwe Valar: It has no relation to Tolkien, so no real help there either :} I think based on what you've shared, anyone in the channel who comes back and reads it will know to look for you if they're interested.
ArPharazonV: indeed, this is advertisement gmail would automatically throw in the spam section ;-)
ArPharazonV: and if some new guy came with it on the warcraft 3 forum I visit, he'd be banned right away ;-)
Nemoeverlonely: in any case - if you guys shopped there, you'd get good products, save money(even after S&H) and I'd get paid for advertisement.
ArPharazonV: gotta love the no advertising rule
Nemoeverlonely: well - i understand
Nemoeverlonely: I appreciate you guys being reasonable about it
Nemoeverlonely: I figured stores out there do commercials on TV - i wouldn't be too far off that mark
Eonwe Valar: Might try a web page :}
Nemoeverlonely: ty for listening:-) back to toikien!
Nemoeverlonely: lol web page?
ArPharazonV: ok, Namarie all!
Eonwe Valar: COming into the chat channel is more akin to telemarketing or Door-to-door salesmanship :}
ArPharazonV: it's been fun
Eonwe Valar: Take care Phar :}
Nemoeverlonely: tis why I asked
ArPharazonV: and remember Eonwe, TB in BfME 2!
Eonwe Valar: Aye, and thank you for asking first :}
ArPharazonV: I still want to see that gameplay footage one day :-)
Nemoeverlonely: basically im tryin to reach the most amount of eyes/ears and I figured Valar people might listen to me as being ex-valar
Nemoeverlonely: theres just alot of bad feelings invoked thinking someone 'profits from you'
Nemoeverlonely: i don't understand it but thats how people sometimes feel
ArPharazonV has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar: well, Eonwe doesn´t seem interested, and Pharzie and I don´t apply being Europeans :-D
Eonwe Valar: I certainly appreciate being asked first before I listen to an ad. Telemarketers don't give me that option, which is why they get my rude response of being hung up on.
Nemoeverlonely: lol - theres a similar and very inferior(no offense) system over there thats like a sister company
Menelvagor Valar: thanks, but no thanks.
Nemoeverlonely: hehe well - I am chasing a dream - im not too far off from being free from a job for the rest of my life
Nemoeverlonely: and Im very excited about getting to that point...Im trying to rush it
Eonwe Valar: Nemo, I know you're an ex-member but I'm afraid I'm not placing the name. Mind helping me out? :}
Nemoeverlonely: Herumor
Eonwe Valar: Aha!
Nemoeverlonely: long long ago
Srekal86 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Been keeping busy I see :}
Menelvagor Valar: what is long long ago? :-)
Nemoeverlonely: when I was a member:-)
Nemoeverlonely: oh yes - I am close to freedom - and I can taste it.
Nemoeverlonely: tis my dream
Eonwe Valar: Glad to hear that :}
Nemoeverlonely: so what were we chatting about before I interrupted;-)
Eonwe Valar: We had just got done welcoming a new member and saying good bye since he had to go :}
Eonwe Valar: Actually, I'm afraid I must go as well.
Eonwe Valar: It's getting late and I promised I'd help my bro with something.
Nemoeverlonely: ahh
Nemoeverlonely: namarie then, Eonwe
Eonwe Valar: Take care all, good night, sleep well, and have fun :}
Eonwe Valar: See you all next week if not before :}
Eonwe Valar: Read more Tolkien :}
(22:13:03) Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Nemoeverlonely: i suppose I am off as well
Menelvagor Valar: Same here.
Menelvagor Valar: Namarie!
Nemoeverlonely: Namare
Nemoeverlonely: ie*
Nemoeverlonely has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar has left the room.
VardaValar1: Good night all!
