top

Eonwe Valar: ok, Gaming News:
Eonwe Valar: Guild Questing:
Arwen V1 has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Varda and I got together for a couple of quests in the Plaguelands. She even found one I didn't know about :}
VardaValar1: =)
Eonwe Valar: We infested the Lumber Mill with termites and restored a lucky charm to a ghost woman :}
Eonwe Valar: We also helped my brother complete one of the Plague cauldron quests at the same time :}
VardaValar1: Some of us earlier hit Redridge, cleared out quests. Then we went for Darkshire and knocked off a bunch more. Great fun.
Eonwe Valar: Any news from the Valar Guild guys in Europe?
ArPharazonV: I got my Finkle's Skinner today!
Eonwe Valar: congrats :}
FladrifV: I was with onyxia :-)
FladrifV: first time
ArPharazonV: yes, I rejoined WoW this week... turns out I missed our Guild's first kills of Vael and Razorgore
ArPharazonV: the first 2 bosses of Blackwing Lair
Eonwe Valar: congrats Fladrif :} sorry to hear that, Phar, but at least you're back in the game :}
ArPharazonV: not much raiding done myself yet... soloed most of Gnomeregan several times to farm silk
ArPharazonV: to get Ironforge-rep via the "war effort"
Eonwe Valar: Aye. For anyone following that, Lothar, the Valar Guild's Official server, is at 46th in the standing.
ArPharazonV: I've also embarked on the quest to reforge the sceptre of Ahn'Qiraj, but I'm quite certain I won't get far without help ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Aye, probably not :}
ArPharazonV: apparently, Argent Dawn is nr. 44 :P
GilraenV: I was looking at the perentages page on the WoW website yesterday, hehe
ArPharazonV: on Europe, that is
ArPharazonV: no, in total, it seems
ArPharazonV: unless there's a Lothar in Europe too
ArPharazonV: but it says here you're at nr. 30
Eonwe Valar: There probably is
FladrifV: then there is eu at the back of the name
Eonwe Valar: They've just used the same names since they don't have to worry about the servers getting merged weirdly or anything like that.
VardaValar1: The WoW page had very old info on us, last we looked
ArPharazonV: Last Update: January 13, 2006, 7:00 AM CET
ArPharazonV: ow
ArPharazonV: that's a bit old
VardaValar1: Someone has to inspect us
VardaValar1: or it won't update
Eonwe Valar: The one I'm looking at says it was updated the 15th.
Eonwe Valar: 4 am.
ArPharazonV: could be, then I'm looking at the European one
Eonwe Valar: If you got the link from the WoW European site, that's more than likely :}
ArPharazonV: aye :-)
Eonwe Valar: In other gaming news:
Eonwe Valar: Turbine has released some more information on another of their classes for LotRO: the Minstrel.
ArPharazonV: ooh
Eonwe Valar: They have the race listings and some info for the MInstrel, Guardian, Captain, and Champion.
Bior the Ythling has entered the room.
VardaValar1: I am behind updating our actual WoW Lothar page
VardaValar1: Aiya
Bior the Ythling: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Guardian? Captain? Champion? that sounds more like rankings than classes
Eonwe Valar: They have quoted usualyl where they derived the class name.
Eonwe Valar: For example, the Captain comes from a quote of Aragorn to Gandalf:
Eonwe Valar: CaptainRaces: Man'And this I also say: you are our captain and our banner. The Dark Lord has Nine. But we have One, mightier than they. . . .'
Eonwe Valar: 'And this I also say: you are our captain and our banner. The Dark Lord has Nine. But we have One, mightier than they. . . .'
Eonwe Valar: There, a bit cleaner.
Eonwe Valar: The Captain's abilities mirror this quote.
ArPharazonV: I see
Eonwe Valar: But I'll let you read more on that :}
ArPharazonV: well, at least they're trying to be original
Eonwe Valar: The Captain is also the only class so far that can only be got by Man, and not Elves ,Dwarves, or Hobbits.
Eonwe Valar: Hobbits cannot be Champions.
Eonwe Valar: Any race can be Gaurdian or Minstrel.
Eonwe Valar: They're trying to fit the classes into Tolkien's world as opposed to just slapping the Tolkien Label on a WoW Mage (for example) and calling it done.
ArPharazonV: nice
ArPharazonV: I wonder if there's a hobbit-only class as well ;-)
Eonwe Valar: My guess would be the Burglar :}
ArPharazonV: eh, that's not a bad idea
Eonwe Valar: but if they did that, they'd have to have race specific classes for everyone.
ArPharazonV: well, if they have one for Man
ArPharazonV: why not the others?
VardaValar1: They are discussing the upcoming Lord of the Rings Online game, where we will be opening a branch
Eonwe Valar: There's only 3 more classes listed on the page, and none of them would fit only Dwarves.
ArPharazonV: and we are sure that this is all the classes we're gonna get?
Eonwe Valar: From what I've heard, yes.
Eonwe Valar: This is what we're getting upon release.
ArPharazonV: ah, ok
Ugluk of Old: Any date set for release yet?
Eonwe Valar: Not yet.
VardaValar1: Rumor has it this summer
Eonwe Valar: Don't believe what your local game store tells you :}
GilraenV: I should be off now. Namarie, folks :-)
Eonwe Valar: Until The developers set a date, that is :}
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
GilraenV has left the room.
Ugluk of Old: Namarie Gilraen V
Eonwe Valar: There's also alot of screenshots to check out among other things at the site, so go visit it when you have a moment.
Eonwe Valar: http://lotro.turbine.com
Oessala has entered the room.
Srekal86 has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news?
VardaValar1: Aiya Orodreth, Hyarion
Srekal86: any 'other' gaming news? I've missed some!
Srekal86: allo folks
VardaValar1: I missed you during invites, very sorry about that
Srekal86: sure ya did :p
Srekal86: /me goes back to lurk into his corner
Oessala: I've been addictied to Eve online for a month now, but I think I mentioned that a few weeks ago.
Oessala: /me goes back to his corner
Eonwe Valar: Whisper Tolkien topics to me as well if you have them.
ArPharazonV: you ask me to warn you when I go play War3, and behind my back you go to Eve online? tsk!
Oessala: It's not what it seems, Ar!
Oessala: /me runs away
ArPharazonV: /me aims fruit-cannon
VardaValar1: Back off, Phar : )
VardaValar1: or I hand you the mop!
Oessala: If anyone else plays, message me and I'll donate a couple mill isk. :D
ArPharazonV: /me puts fruit-cannon back in his backpack
ArPharazonV: *glares at Orodreth*
Bior the Ythling has left the room.
top

Tolkien:
Eonwe Valar: OK, no gaming, so it's Tolkien time :}
Eonwe Valar: *no more gaming :}
Eonwe Valar: We have 2 Tolkien topics left from last week.
Eonwe Valar: The first one I shall phrase as follows:
Eonwe Valar: Where did Aragorn spend his youth, and what do we know of his mother?
VardaValar1: Um, were you about to tell us the second one too?
Eonwe Valar: No. I was going to leave that for after this one.
Nemoeverlonely has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Herumor
Nemoeverlonely: Aiya:-)
Nemoeverlonely: How is everyone?
VardaValar1: We are in Tolkien chat time
VardaValar1: The topic is:
VardaValar1: Where did Aragorn spend his youth, and what do we know of his mother?
Nemoeverlonely: is that not common knowledge, where he spent the youth
VardaValar1: I thought so, but this question came to the Encyc
ArPharazonV: he was raised in Rivendell, as far as I knew...
Nemoeverlonely: same
VardaValar1: Gilraen, his mother, was taken into Rivendell also
VardaValar1: Elrond usually took in the Ranger chiefs. You know how this was different?
ArPharazonV: "Then Aragorn, being now the Heir of Isildur, was taking with his mother to dwell in the house of Elrond; and Elrond took the place of his father and came to love him as a son of his own."
ArPharazonV: *taken
VardaValar1: Right
VardaValar1: Could you say where you are quoting from, for transcript readers?
ArPharazonV: Appendix A I (v)
VardaValar1: Thank you
ArPharazonV: the tale of Aragorn and Arwen
ArPharazonV: second page for me
VardaValar1: Not all LotR books have the Appendix attached, but make it a separate book
VardaValar1: Now, how was this different from the many chiefs Elrond took in before?
ArPharazonV: "But he was called Estel, that is "Hope", and his true name and lineage were kept secret at the bidding of Elrond;
ArPharazonV: for the Wise now knew that the Enemy was seeking to discover the Heir of Isildur, if any remained upon earth."
ArPharazonV: perhaps the difference lies in that, in that Aragorn did not know his lineage until he was 20 years old?
VardaValar1: Anyone else?
VardaValar1: That was super-important, what you said, Phar
VardaValar1: The other chiefs were only in Rivendell while children, and then again in old age
VardaValar1: Aragorn was raised as a child of Elrond, rather than temporarily sheltered
ArPharazonV: hmm.. http://www.wow-europe.com/en/downloads/fan-wallpapers/fan-wallpaper3.html
ArPharazonV: might make that my wallpaper ;-)
Eonwe Valar: OK, seems the topic is dead, as Varda is the only one talking now :}
ArPharazonV: yes, well, I have nothing else to contribute, really
Eonwe Valar: The second question also came to the encyclopedia, and I will just give the exact text :}
Eonwe Valar: I have some high elf models which i paint, i wanted to know what color cloak should i paint my captain, and what name he should be(perferible a name with a 't')
ArPharazonV: Aragorn was raised as a child of Elrond, and he fell in love with his daughter... that seems to be the chief difference
Ugluk of Old: Gilraen (Wndering star) Daughter of Dirhael married Arathorn II. She lived in Rivendell from the death of her husband until she returned to her family home somewhere in Eriador
Ugluk of Old: Wandering
VardaValar1: Sounds like a quote from a helper source. Which one, Ugluk?
Ugluk of Old: Complete guide to middle earth
VardaValar1: That's a good book
Ugluk of Old: yes lots of info :}
VardaValar1: Evil RotK index left out Gilraen, making us work ;-)
ArPharazonV: "After a few years Gilraen took leave of Elrond and returned to her own people in Eriador, and lived alone; and she seldom saw her son again, for he spent many years in far countries."
ArPharazonV: same chapter :-)
VardaValar1: Thanks, Phar : )
VardaValar1: So she was only in Rivendell a few years
ArPharazonV: Well, a few years after the previous events
Ugluk of Old: from 2933 until 2954
ArPharazonV: Aragorn is 49 years old at the previous events, and Gilraen left "a few years after"
ArPharazonV: or something like that
VardaValar1: Interesting reminders here. Aragorn was only 2 when his father was killed.
VardaValar1: Thanks for the clearing up, Phar : ) I'm tangenting already, pardon : )
ArPharazonV: and Arathorn died 3 years after his own father...
ArPharazonV: at 60 years old
VardaValar1: Aye, very early
VardaValar1: Gilraen had some of the foresight ability
VardaValar1: Aragorn inherited it, "foresight of his kindred"
ArPharazonV: interesting... Elrond tells Aragorn that Arwen is "of lineage greater than yours"
ArPharazonV: while both, essentially, are descended from Earendil and Elwing
ArPharazonV: of course, on the other side there's Galadiel
ArPharazonV: *Galadriel
ArPharazonV: and Aragorn's line has been "tainted" for many years...
ArPharazonV: meh... just me nitpicking, I suppose
Ugluk of Old: Arathorn II died 2933 - slain by orc arrows. Elessar died 3121
VardaValar1: Tainted?
VardaValar1: As in a lot of human? : )
ArPharazonV: as in a lot of human from lesser lineage
Ugluk of Old: seems Aragorn lived 188 years after the death of his father
ArPharazonV: the line may have had its huge life expectancy to the end, unlike the Gondorian kings... but still
VardaValar1: Aragorn's line would have been full of other Numenoreans, not loaded with short-lived Rohirrim
ArPharazonV: true, but in that 6000 years of history, you can't expect every member joining the family to be descended from Elros
VardaValar1: No, but they would be Numenorean
VardaValar1: That keeps the life expectancy up
ArPharazonV: yes, but not although Numenorean, still of lessened "lineage", depending on what you understand by that term
ArPharazonV: *-not
VardaValar1: As in not Elvish
ArPharazonV: as in not descended from a royal Elvish family, yes :-)
VardaValar1: or any other Elvish as far as we know
VardaValar1: Only the maid of Nimrodel of non-royal crossed as far as we know, and that was in Dol Amroth
Eonwe Valar: I can assure you that Elro's wife was most certainly not descended from Elros, yet the descendents kept a reasonably long life :} Elros's even wasn't that long by Elvish standards. Only 500 or so years, maybe 4 years on their
Eonwe Valar: calendar.
ArPharazonV: I still remember reading in UT about another character perhaps having descended from a non-royal elf... but try as I may, I just can't remember who it was
VardaValar1: Might be the same one
ArPharazonV: no, I think it happened in Beleriand, Silm-time
ArPharazonV: and this was the direct first generation, the initial "hybrid" so to speak
VardaValar1: Give you something to dig up. ;-)
ArPharazonV: and I'm not talking about Tal-Elmar either...
ArPharazonV: I've looked for it for a long time, but I couldn't find it anymore
VardaValar1: ouch
VardaValar1: Know the feeling : )
ArPharazonV: oh well, perhaps when I re-read UT a third time, somewhere in the future...
ArPharazonV: if I find it again, I'll surely write it down
VardaValar1: hehe
Ugluk of Old: sorry must go... Take care...Namarie all!
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
VardaValar1: Namarie
Ugluk of Old has left the room.
VardaValar1: Ok, the other question about the Elvish captain was tough
VardaValar1: There are almost none named
ArPharazonV: do we have someone in the Fall of Gondolin starting with a T?
VardaValar1: If we can come up with any named captains at all we are flying : )
ArPharazonV: that would give you a cloak-color as well, since they mostly have a unique symbol ;-)
ArPharazonV: ok, I'll go grab BoLT 2
Eonwe Valar: It would also help to see where the rank "Captain" would fall in an Elvish military.
VardaValar1: In the Battle of Five Armies, Mirkwood uses it
VardaValar1: but does not name the captains
VardaValar1: Maybe one is that Legolas guy? : )
ArPharazonV: calling him Turgon would be a little over the line, right? ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Would that mean "Captain" = "Lord" ? or does it just mean even the nobility have to work up the ranks? :}
VardaValar1: We even looked at Thingol, Phar : )
VardaValar1: Grey mantle, heh
VardaValar1: Some titles, for instance Baron in English nobility, are in addition to others
ArPharazonV: let's see... Turgon, Maeglin, Duilin, Egalmoth, Penlod, Galdor, Glorfindel, Ecthelion, Salgant, Rog
ArPharazonV: and Legolas was of the folk of the Tree, and thus "subject" of Galdor
VardaValar1: Legolas of Gondolin was only called a scout, to my leaky memory
Eonwe Valar: Maeglin had his own house.
ArPharazonV: "But the others, led by one Legolas Greenleaf of the house of the Tree, who knew all that plain by day or by dark, and was night-sighted, made much speed over the vale..."
ArPharazonV: yes, Maeglin was the prince of Gondobar, and had his own "folk"
Eonwe Valar: Are you naming the lords of the houses, or saying they're all under the "house of the Tree?"
VardaValar1: Really sounded like Tolkien was using the Gondolin Legolas as one of his idea sources for the LotR Legolas
ArPharazonV: drawn up in the same place as the house of the king, but with a sable harness, no sign or emblem, etc
ArPharazonV: I'm naming the lords of the houses
Eonwe Valar: ok, the way you did it threw me for a second.
ArPharazonV: heh
Eonwe Valar: when you came back in with Legolas, then named the house of the tree, sounded like you were saying all of them were in that house.
ArPharazonV: then I should have used "were" instead of "was", no? ;-)
Eonwe Valar: you had no period on the end of the first part to indicate the completion of a thought :}
Eonwe Valar: or even a semicolon :}
ArPharazonV: true, but I seldom use periods in my sentences.. or capital letters for that matter
ArPharazonV: except when I'm quoting
ArPharazonV: it's a nasty habit of chatting in Bnet ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Aye, but I read things in the "proper" English format, even when it's not :}
VardaValar1: Pardon, I had that spot memorized nearly, so understood
Eonwe Valar: Small thing anyway, I now understand what you meant :}
VardaValar1: Phar, feel free to use caps and periods. Makes you look all intelligent ;-)
ArPharazonV: You may have a point.
ArPharazonV: If I look at your sentences, I see caps but no periods at the end... so you're not even following your own advice?
Eonwe Valar: So Legolas is an example of a Captain? or Scout? Don't have my book in front of me at the moment.
VardaValar1: Right. Caps are nice, so I look half-smart
ArPharazonV: Sam-wise? ;-)
VardaValar1: Legolas is an example of Tolkien not saying anything at all about any version of Legolas
VardaValar1: Aye, since Sam's name means Half-wise : )
ArPharazonV: I know :-)
Eonwe Valar: I usually use periods where ":}" are not given, as I use that as a punctuation sometimes. I was not offering advice, simply saying that I did not understand your list because it appeared to carry to the next line.
Eonwe Valar: "Was" instead of "were" was not enough of an indicator as I assume that is where the mistake is made in such situations.
ArPharazonV: "His real name was Ban, short for Banzir. In C.S. ba-, ban- occurred in many words with the meaning 'half-, almost', while zir(a) meant 'wise'. I have therefore translated his name by ancient English samwis of similar sense.
ArPharazonV: This was convenient, since Samwise will yield an abbreviation Sam.
ArPharazonV: Now Ban was a common short name in the Shire, but was usually then derived from the more elevated name Bannathe, as Sam is with us usually shortened from Samuel."
ArPharazonV: *Bannatha
ArPharazonV: and there are some strange signs on the i and a, but I cannot make those with my keyboard afaik...
FladrifV: ofcourse you can :-)
ArPharazonV: some sort of dash on top of the i and a?
Eonwe Valar: I get by holding the alt button and typing 137/

ArPharazonV: no, a horizontal one, Flad

ArPharazonV: nope to both
Eonwe Valar:
ArPharazonV: nope
Eonwe Valar: Those are the 3 I found.
ArPharazonV: it's not among them ;-)
FladrifV: ar look in the asci table
Eonwe Valar: Alt 146 for lfwine :}

Glorfindel VG has entered the room.
Glorfindel VG: hello
VardaValar1: Aiya Glorfindel : )
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Glorfindel VG: Aiya my friends
Eonwe Valar: Heya Glorfindel.
Srekal86: 'lo Glorfindel VG
Glorfindel VG: tali ho
ArPharazonV:
VardaValar1: A painter asked us for an Elvish captain's name, preferably starting with "T", and what color his cloak would be. Tall order, huh?
VardaValar1: Suppose the cloak would be the same as his lord's if it's not a royal purple sort?
ArPharazonV: , but then on top of an i...
ArPharazonV: can't find the thing...
VardaValar1: Then we tangented onto how to make those diacritical marks Tolkien uses all over the place. : )
VardaValar1: Don't try to follow the logic here.
VardaValar1: Those special grey cloaks would be common issue for this purpose, perhaps?
Eonwe Valar: Perhaps.
VardaValar1: I wonder if Thingol Greymantles grey cloak was of that
VardaValar1: He needed to be seen by those following him, so maybe it was silvery
ArPharazonV: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=15138?
ArPharazonV: note the screenshot, obviously
VardaValar1: So if they didn't want to be seen, they might wear the special grey cloaks. I wonder how hard they would be to get
ArPharazonV: grey, and shiny!
Eonwe Valar: Maybe standard issue for scouts and rangers?
VardaValar1: shadow and flame resist : ) Nice that it's grey
ArPharazonV: I meant, for Thingol ;-)
ArPharazonV: you wanted grey, yet be seen
VardaValar1: Any guerrilla fighters, maybe, such as the border guards
VardaValar1: Haldir, Rumil, and Orophin wore whole outfit of shadowy grey
VardaValar1: Aye, Phar! Good!
VardaValar1: That flame resist looks mighty good for the game too
ArPharazonV: Shadow Flame seems to be an ability of some bosses in Blackwing Lair, if you don't use it you get massive damage and will probably die
ArPharazonV: atm almost all our warriors and rogues have one, and probably some others as well
Nemoeverlonely has left the room.
ArPharazonV: and the fire resist is pretty good ;-)
VardaValar1: okies, so we can't come up with named captains
VardaValar1: My best guess was Haldir might be some kind of captain
VardaValar1: I never really looked very hard
VardaValar1: Maybe some in Beleriand
Eonwe Valar: I guess this is a good spot to bang the gavel :}
Eonwe Valar: *Bangs gavel*
Eonwe Valar: Aftermeeting :}
ArPharazonV: Calaron is a captain now, I guess
VardaValar1: *jumps*
ArPharazonV: in the rp ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Gandalf was called a Captain :}
ArPharazonV: or he was, and is now even higher
top

After-meeting:
VardaValar1: Got an experiment going on, may have to drag you guys with me : )
ArPharazonV: go ahead :-)
VardaValar1: okies
VardaValar1: It seems there's a general place for LotRO kinships to set up a channel
VardaValar1: Srekal/Hyarion is hosting it
VardaValar1: I finally worked my way through
VardaValar1: It seems a lot like just making a channel
VardaValar1: Okies, here's how I went, and there are other ways:
VardaValar1: Pull up your browser
VardaValar1: copy/paste this:
VardaValar1: http://tolkiengateway.net/java2/ or http://tolkiengateway.net/java3/
FarmerMaggotV has left the room.
Srekal86: or http://tolkiengateway.net/java/ ;-) or if you have mirc: /server -m irc.tolkiengateway.net or if you have xchat: /newserver irc.tolkiengateway.net
VardaValar1: Pick a nickname, our guild name
VardaValar1: pardon, your guild name
VardaValar1: Need that "y"
ArPharazonV: I'm in!
VardaValar1: woot!
VardaValar1: Now in the bottom right, type your nickname, one we can recognize
VardaValar1: Then you can register your name
VardaValar1: type:
VardaValar1: /nickserv register password email
VardaValar1: but put your pass and your email
VardaValar1: ooops
VardaValar1: type /msg nickserv register pass email
Eonwe Valar: This is all free from the registree's standing I assume :}
ArPharazonV: eh? what?
Srekal86: VardaValar1: maybe it would be better if we got people all in one room on the other network and then walked them through?
VardaValar1: yes, free : )
VardaValar1: Or I would not touch
VardaValar1: I got it using your side window, and this one reaches all of us
VardaValar1: We can if they want to
VardaValar1: It is probably just Eonwe and Phar, then later whoever reads this transcript
VardaValar1: Anyone else trying this with us?
Eonwe Valar: It says Enter Nick at the top left.
Eonwe Valar: I don't have anything in the bottom right.
VardaValar1: ok, was bottom right for me. Thanks
Srekal86: Eonwe Valar: oh well it depends on which client you are using, no matter what /nick yournickhere will work
Eonwe Valar: It seems to have a problem reading in my capital E
Eonwe Valar: or any capital for that matter.
VardaValar1: It got my capial V
VardaValar1: capital V
Eonwe Valar: I had to hit E twice.
VardaValar1: Another client problem?
Eonwe Valar: on my most recent attempt
Eonwe Valar: tried several times in my other attempt, did nothing.
Srekal86: Eonwe Valarwhich client are you using?
VardaValar1: Phar's in
Srekal86: Eonwe Valar try using this link, http://tolkiengateway.net/java/
Eonwe Valar: I'm using Internet Explorer.
VardaValar1: o great
VardaValar1: somehow got my room wiped out with a WoW screenshot viewer
Srekal86: hah
Eonwe Valar: oh joy
Srekal86: did it open in your browser?
Srekal86: if so just click back
VardaValar1: yes
VardaValar1: Had no click back, working back through
ArPharazonV: hmm... a quit-message...
VardaValar1: it was that screenshot of Phar's from earlier
ArPharazonV: hah
Srekal86: ArPharazonV: heh ya you can add your own quit messages
ArPharazonV: yes, but I haven't figured out which one yet ;-)
Eonwe Valar: The other place looked nicer :}
Eonwe Valar: It's telling me my password is a command.
Srekal86: Eonwe Valar: heh, thats the beauty of IRC, you can connect from hundreds of different programs, there's even Tolkien specific programs
Srekal86: your password is a command?
Eonwe Valar: It says fomr NickServ:
Srekal86: type /msg nickserv register yourpassword your@email
Eonwe Valar: Unknown command (my password here). "/msg NickServ Help" for help.
Srekal86: you cant have spaces, and 'mypasswordhere' should be replaced with an actual password, lol, dont type literally 'my password here'
Eonwe Valar: I didn't :}
Eonwe Valar: I typed that so I wouldn't share my password :}
Eonwe Valar: That's why I used () around it :}
Srekal86: dont use spaces either
Srekal86: or parenthesis/symbols
Eonwe Valar: I didn't except between complete phrases, ie. the command, my pass ,and my email.
Eonwe Valar: I did it exactly how the example line read :}
Eonwe Valar: /msg nickserv register pass email
Srekal86: did you replace pass with a password and email with a valid email address?
Eonwe Valar: unless for some reason you don't like hotmail, then yes.
ArPharazonV: gmail works ;-)
Eonwe Valar: It didn't give me a message the second time I tried, btw.
VardaValar1: gmail worked here too
Srekal86: any email address will work
VardaValar1: Don't put the [] around email
VardaValar1: I tried that, heh
Srekal86: dont put [] around anything actually, /msg nickserv register irule hyarion@tolkiengateway.net is an example
Eonwe Valar: The chat window still shows my text as Guest9.
Srekal86: Eonwe Valar: uhoh...
Srekal86: you didn't just register Guest9 did you? lol...
Srekal86: you have to type /nick yournickhere first
Eonwe Valar: no
Eonwe Valar: ok, maybe I did
Eonwe Valar: but I didn't see that in the instructions
Eonwe Valar: I typed my nickname in the lower right hand corner box.
Srekal86: okay now hit enter
Srekal86: in that box
VardaValar1: I typed my nick first not knowing about the register yet, so aye
Eonwe Valar: Ah, helps to know I have to hit enter.
Srekal86: heh, my fault.
Eonwe Valar: Used to boxes that take care of that stuff itself when you hit the submit button.
Eonwe Valar: lol
Eonwe Valar: my account says it's Guest9@ etc...
Srekal86: lol
Eonwe Valar: As the web guy there, I assume you have the means to fix that :}
Srekal86: thats just your identity since your connecting through the java client
Srekal86: no one will really see it, no point to worry about that now, I'll show you how to fix it later
Srekal86: lets get that nick registered first
VardaValar1: The java was supposed to be the fastest, so I picked that
VardaValar1: He had a ton of ways in.
Eonwe Valar: Says it's registered under that account.
Srekal86: Eonwe Valar: ya you'll need to register, type /msg nickserv register pass eonwe(AT)email.com  [Note: this actually said @, but to help cut back on web-spiders picking up our email, the webmaster substitued (AT). Please adjust your thinking for this while reading this transcript.]
Eonwe Valar: Nickname is registered under the Guest9@ ... account.
Srekal86: no I checked Guest9, you hadn't registered that one either
Srekal86: and you can have infinite nicks registered
VardaValar1: Now you get to try /join #Valar
Srekal86: your registered now, just type /join #Valar
Eonwe Valar: 18:41] -NickServ- Nickname Eonwe registered under your account: *Guest9@* ************** [18:41] -NickServ- Your password is ****************** - remember this for later use.
Srekal86: yep your registered
Eonwe Valar: Is the message I got already, editted to keep my stuff private.
Srekal86: cool that means your in, congrats.
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
VardaValar1: Anyone awake here besides Eonwe, Phar, and me?
ArPharazonV: sorry, too busy playing with trivia bot
ArPharazonV: :P
VardaValar1: You are one of the three I mentioned, Phar
VardaValar1: Checking to see if any others are here
VardaValar1: Fladrif? Orodreth?
VardaValar1: Glorfindel?
Glorfindel VG: hello!
Srekal86: 'lo
VardaValar1: Hello
Glorfindel VG: sorry im kind of stepping in and out here
VardaValar1: np
VardaValar1: We are trying out another channel, if you'd like to check it out with us
Glorfindel VG: yeah sure
Glorfindel VG: what chan
VardaValar1: When you have a minute?
VardaValar1: We used java to go in, apparently not the best way
VardaValar1: Do you use Trillian?
Glorfindel VG: nope java
VardaValar1: okies, you can be as messed up as we are ;-)
Glorfindel VG: hehe
VardaValar1: In your browser, type:
VardaValar1: [Removed from transcript]
Srekal86: arg I need to fix that it hides the redirected URI, http://tolkiengateway.net/java/ is more correct ;-)
VardaValar1: ack
VardaValar1: I'm sorry
VardaValar1: I copied the URL
Srekal86: hah no worries, my fault for not masking it
VardaValar1: Glorfindel, you with us?
Srekal86: ya
VardaValar1: He'd like you to use that other URL for your bookmark, I think : )
FladrifV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: I need to log out soon
VardaValar1: ok, take off then :-)
VardaValar1: You are doing great in trivia!
ArPharazonV: thanks
ArPharazonV: typing class ;-)
VardaValar1: more than that, spaces and just good
VardaValar1: Later. Rest well!
ArPharazonV: let me know how it turns out ;-)
VardaValar1: you win :-)

Oessala: /me cries
Oessala: I just spent 18m on a very shiny peice of equipment..and it's 16 jumps away.
VardaValar1: :-)
ArPharazonV: /me aims one final shot Orodreth with the fruit cannon
VardaValar1: *shield*
Oessala: /me uses his also new T2 150mm Autocannons to return fire
Oessala: :D
ArPharazonV: *cannon starts to charge up*
ArPharazonV: *nozzle swells up, is big fruit*
ArPharazonV: *Shoots enormous pumpkin*
Oessala: /me counterfires his 3 autocannons
ArPharazonV: /me parries with fruit cannon in hand
Oessala: /me watches the pumpkin get shredded
Oessala: /me fires his Upgraded 'Limos' Standard missile launcher loaded with Bloodclaw missiles
ArPharazonV: /me cleans up fruit cannon for later use, stows it away in backpack
Oessala: Perfect hit!
ArPharazonV: *ducks Bloodclaw missiles*
ArPharazonV: *matrix-style*
Oessala: Homing missiles FTW.
ArPharazonV: *me swallows missiles*
ArPharazonV: *chews up*
ArPharazonV: *spits out*
VardaValar1: Go to sleeeep ;-)
Oessala: /me gapes
ArPharazonV: *saves transcript*
Oessala: /me shrugs rams Ar with his rifter
Oessala: /me does 787 m/s
ArPharazonV: saved
ArPharazonV: *wonders what a rifter is*
Oessala: A ship.
ArPharazonV: *rams rifter with Alcarondas*
Oessala: Masses..1,237,500 kg
Oessala: I win. :\
ArPharazonV: head of Numenorean fleet, "castle of the sea"
ArPharazonV: need I say more?
Oessala: 1 million kg..need I say more?
Oessala: For that matter, 787 m/s, need I say more? :p
ArPharazonV: the powers of legend protect my ship from all harm coming from modern vessels...
ArPharazonV: it is well known that modern weapons are useless against legendary older weaponry
Oessala: It's well known that wood can't take cruise missles.
ArPharazonV: transcript sent
ArPharazonV: again, powers of legend
Oessala: /me watches three impact
ArPharazonV: /me watches missiles dissipate on impact
Oessala: /me watches there be no more Alcarondas
ArPharazonV: /me watches Alcarondas rising from the mist
ArPharazonV: /me makes offering to powers of legend
Oessala: /me says 'bugger it' and just tractors the thing to his friend's Charon
Oessala: There, now you can't do any harm.
ArPharazonV: /me sails away to a far horizon
Oessala: /me wanders off

VardaValar1: We are still here :-)
Oessala: ...or are we?
VardaValar1: going to zonk out now
VardaValar1: Eonwe and I were playing vs a trivia bot
VardaValar1: Phar was there earlier

Oessala: going to sit in this room for a week, as per normal..
VardaValar1: lot of fun
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: that's normal? really?
Oessala: ..yea, more or less.
VardaValar1: Maybe we could get your transcript help sometimes :-)
Oessala: I try and always be the last person out by a day or three.
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Oessala: Timestamps.
Oessala: Not VST.
VardaValar1: could turn off just for the meeting time?
Oessala: Haha.
Oessala: I just realized I came in here on oessala instead of orodreth..
Oessala: Oops? :p
VardaValar1: noticed : )
VardaValar1: Maybe you could help us with the sweep

Oessala: Oh, forgot to make my bot report.
VardaValar1: We have people who come on AIM who we don't see elsewhere
VardaValar1: now is good :-)
Eonwe Valar: Wow, almost every server I have a character on (not many, but still) has a queue.
Oessala: Besides the sneaky Ar gaming on WC3 behind my back, nothing to report besides Thror playing an unholy amout of D2.
VardaValar1: Really!!
VardaValar1: Does he play with a Valar name?
Oessala: ThrorL_V
Oessala: Think on Thror_V too.
Oessala: Lemme find my logs.
Oessala: Hm.
Oessala: Add@Azeroth came in on the first one time, said nothing and left.
VardaValar1: He probably expected no response
VardaValar1: familiar name, let's see, hmm. forgot
Oessala: Thror also plays BW as Thror_V.
VardaValar1: cool : )
Oessala: Looks like he plays with a warhawk47.
Oessala: Add came in more on the 4th.
VardaValar1: You're in, Kalasul!
Oessala: Herumor@Azeroth on the 4th.
VardaValar1: I wonder if that's our Herumor-ex
Oessala: I see you and Thorondor on 10-29.
VardaValar1: yike
VardaValar1: I may have lost all my characters!
Oessala: haha
VardaValar1: been that long!
Oessala: just realized that date
Oessala: actually looking at december now
VardaValar1: was worrying about that today
Oessala: Oh. >\
VardaValar1: thorondor said he was planning on moving to another game
Oessala: did FM get the message to you?
VardaValar1: what msg?
Oessala: TANDYSEKS@Azeroth wishes to let us know that our pal Leafieslover is back.
Oessala: And he would be said pal.
VardaValar1: I did hear he was around
Oessala: [1:07:33 AM] <TANDYSEKS@Azeroth> HEY ITS LEAFIESLOVER
VardaValar1: ok, so he has still another name
VardaValar1: He had a lot
VardaValar1: really sick mouth on that little boy
Oessala: Thror also playing with CaptCharisma007 and lordofcrow..
Oessala: nyyjm26@Azeroth talking with Add on 12-23.
VardaValar1: Thror isn't playing with tandy is he?
Oessala: Naw.
VardaValar1: okies
Oessala: Thror dosn't have WC3 it looks like.
Oessala: And that's what Leafie was on
Oessala: eomer-(V) on D2lod 12-26
VardaValar1: our eomer? : )
Oessala: ElectricBanana@Azeroth 12-22
VardaValar1: old old account!
VardaValar1: cool
VardaValar1: thror on regular D2, not D2Lod?
Oessala: he's on lod
Oessala: mm
Oessala: Looks like tandy has come buddies, electric is one of them
Oessala: and we also have the wonderfully named ASHOLEPLUNDERER@Azeroth
VardaValar1: sorry you have to see everything
VardaValar1: can you squelch their talk?
Oessala: This?
VardaValar1: leafie's talk etc
Oessala: This is like a leaf blowing in the wind compared to the hurricanes of stuff I normally see.
Oessala: I could squelch it for the bot but without ops anyone in the channel'l be able to seehim
Oessala: ops means changing the channel.
VardaValar1: I just meant for you
VardaValar1: so you don't have to see it on your log
Oessala: Sure I could.
Oessala: But then I wouldn't get this fine entertainment.
VardaValar1: uh riiiight
VardaValar1: He thinks it's entertaining at least to him
VardaValar1: okies, whatever works for you
VardaValar1: Very good to hear about Thror and Eomer!
Oessala: Ahh, but I find it amusing what he thinks passes for insults.
VardaValar1: They were edging to disappearance
VardaValar1: You have a point : )
VardaValar1: Ever see Isildur-V?
VardaValar1: I saw him on friend list when playing, but never a response
Oessala: Thror ran the `allseen command and son_of_a_LICH@Azeroth pops up, but I havn't seen him in the logs.
VardaValar1: and he didn't hit the Valar channel that i could tell
Oessala: Nope, not yet.
Oessala: going through a month's worth of logs though.
VardaValar1: ouch
VardaValar1: anyone showing up in Nov or Dec can be considered active enough for the 2006 list
Oessala: Cagina@Azeroth popped in on 12-21, same clan as electricbanana
VardaValar1: If they aren't using a guild name, it is not guild activity tho
Oessala: who was playing with leafies
Oessala: That's all I can find.
VardaValar1: Bots saved a lot of memberships before. You are following in that grand tradition : )
VardaValar1: Thank you!
Oessala: I'm sure I missed something, and I've lost about a weeks worth of logs from unexpected restarts here an there.
VardaValar1: ouch. Happens
Oessala: I'll try and pay more attention from now on.
Oessala: :p
VardaValar1: It must be pretty hard
VardaValar1: Not many of us hanging around
VardaValar1: I really need to go back in
VardaValar1: No Sam?
Oessala: So leafies is on WC3, associates with clan ECL, under name TANDYSEKS@Azeroth. Know cohorts are ElectricBanana@Azeroth, ASHOLEPLUNDERER@Azeroth, and Cagina@Azeroth.
Oessala: Thror is on often with three non-guild friends. He runs D2: LoD and SC: BW under ThrorL_V and Thror_V. His friends are CaptCharisma007, lordofcrow, and warhawk47.
Oessala: Unknowns nyyjm26@Azeroth and Add@Azeroth have been spotted since december.
Oessala: eomer-(v) on D2: LoD 12-26.
Oessala: I think that's it for Dec/Jan.
Oessala: Oh, Herumor@Azeroth on 4-1.
VardaValar1: Nice summary!
Oessala: Heh, don't tell that to my Humanities teacher...he'll say I should have elaborated. He and I have a little thing about that.
Oessala: I talk too much and write too little, he says.
Oessala: I say they're different mediums, you don't use them the same way, and I always answer the question asked...he just refuses to put his unspoken questions down and expects me to know them. ;P
VardaValar1: You can't talk here, have to write! ;-)
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Oessala: But that's a story for a different day.
VardaValar1: Some more news there for Games page update, Eonwe : )
Eonwe Valar: ok :}
Oessala: Sorr I havn't been around at the meetings much, buys blowing things up in Eve online the past month.
Eonwe Valar: Maybe you should give your humanities teacher an assignment to see how he wants it done :}
VardaValar1: emailed reports are also helpful, if you need to do it that way
VardaValar1: hehe
Oessala: /me pulls out his tech 2 autocannons and checks for Ar
VardaValar1: Phar keeled over earlier. Too much fruit...
Oessala: Heheheh.
Oessala: Nah, I can make it to the meetings fine, presuming I'm not awake/ingame.
Oessala: er
Oessala: not asleep
VardaValar1: They tend to run a while, at least in after meeting
VardaValar1: We were trying out a diff chat room today
Oessala: Just gotta remember to pay attention and submit my reports.
VardaValar1: has kick and ban
Oessala: irc? :p
VardaValar1: That would help, especially since this is activity sweep time
VardaValar1: You could save some of us
Oessala: Not many, from the looks.
VardaValar1: I'll let you read the transcript : )
Oessala: Herumor, eomer, and thror.
VardaValar1: But you just saved two tonight!
VardaValar1: Herumor has been ex a long time
VardaValar1: comes to meetings now and then
Oessala: Suppose me too.
Oessala: :p
VardaValar1: You too what? : )
VardaValar1: Saved your membership? : )
Oessala: I'm good until next January, now. :p
VardaValar1: You had no worries anyway : )
Oessala: Hehe.
VardaValar1: but helps!
Oessala: If I was still active-gaming with Valar, I'd almost consider going for Maiar.
Oessala: But, uh, I'm not. >.>
VardaValar1: You would be able to put in for overall guild help
Oessala: So that rather solves that dilemma, yes?
VardaValar1: You don't have to be playing the same game
VardaValar1: We are too scattered for that requirement
Oessala: I don't even have a valar name in Eve..
VardaValar1: Well make one! : )
Oessala: Though I spose I could throw in a mention in my bio.
VardaValar1: How are our guildies supposed to know you! : )
Oessala: And throw away 1m sp!?
VardaValar1: no
VardaValar1: An alt
Oessala: Are you insane?! x.x
VardaValar1: Yes, but that is beside the point
Oessala: Haha, nice catch.
VardaValar1: /curtsy
Oessala: I could get an alt, but it'd still be throwing away 1m sp.. I'd have to start from scratch. :-(
VardaValar1: I don't understand the game it seems
VardaValar1: You could not have an alt and a main?
Oessala: You don't train like in normal games.
VardaValar1: See, you should use your guild name to start!
Oessala: Skills train while you're offline, while you're online, and while you sleep.
VardaValar1: oh well, next game you join, make one with a guild name ;-)
VardaValar1: okies
VardaValar1: You are stuck
Oessala: ...but the really good ones take forever to train.
VardaValar1: evil game : )
Oessala: Level 5 instant recall? 9 days.
Oessala: And that's short compared to some skills.
VardaValar1: i get the point. You don't have to rename
Oessala: Heh.
Oessala: Actually.
VardaValar1: If you use only one name, they can find you
Oessala: I think for $10 I can.
Oessala: Perhaps when I have the cash I will.
VardaValar1: not that!
VardaValar1: Mow a lawn ;-)
VardaValar1: Shovel snow
Oessala: Snowy lawns, around here, and no snow to shovel.
Oessala: It's like spring. Ugly.
VardaValar1: We have butterflies and roses
VardaValar1: We need to mow... again
Oessala: We have half-melted snow, dead trees and dead grass.
Oessala: Wheee.
VardaValar1: eww
VardaValar1: great description
Oessala: The fortune tellers at the weather service claim that march should make us feel liek december again.
VardaValar1: Then it will be like summer. You are safe
Oessala: However, I trust them about as far as I can throw my 1 million kg ship..
VardaValar1: hehe
Oessala: Speaking of which, I am so poor.
Oessala: 4m isk..
Oessala: /me cries
VardaValar1: My info on you seems all wrong on 2006
VardaValar1: You play just Eve Online now?
Oessala: The way I do things, it was probally right at some point..
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Eve Online name is?
Oessala: Eve Online and occassional (short) breaks for TFT.
Oessala: Debes Sparre.
Oessala: I'm more than willing to give out as may free trials as I can (no idea on the limit), which last for 2 weeks.
VardaValar1: updating
VardaValar1: thanks : )
VardaValar1: You like Guild Wars?
Oessala: I also can get people into the corp (think guild) I'm currently in, or just donate obscene amounts of isk to them.
Oessala: Never played.
VardaValar1: okies
VardaValar1: Had some people who seem to like it, I have no opinion
Oessala: Eve's getting a huge amount of Earth and Beyond and WoW refugees.
VardaValar1: WoW refugees? Money problem?
Oessala: No, gameplay problem.
VardaValar1: Good to hear there's a refuge : )
VardaValar1: Guild Wars is also picking them up
Oessala: They're tired of high level raids that are no fun.
VardaValar1: hah!
VardaValar1: They brought it on themselves
Oessala: Most likely.
Oessala: But I'm not complaning.
VardaValar1: We picked up people like that since D1
Oessala: We had 25.000 people on at one point according to someone tonight.
VardaValar1: Maybe LotRO has hope of flying then : )
Oessala: Couple systems were amazingly laggy, but that's what you get when you stick 500 people into one place.
Oessala: I heard certian towns in WoW are just as bad.
VardaValar1: We play on a Normal server, helps a lot
VardaValar1: The Valar play style allows people to enjoy a game longer
Oessala: Only one Eve server cluster. :-)
VardaValar1: WoW blew it for us by not allowing Europe and Americas to play together
VardaValar1: Need special set-up, most of our Europe guys won't do
Oessala: Heh. Eve forces you to enjoy it longer. Can't exactly powerlevel when everyone trains skills at the same speed for given attributes.
Oessala: You can get filthy rich, but skills > money every time.
VardaValar1: aye
Oessala: Unless you spend 18m on a very good peice of equipment whose type normally goes for about 1m...
VardaValar1: So, are we going to be able to get you writing for us again? Maybe some short things?
Oessala: Like me..
Oessala: >.>
VardaValar1: heh
Oessala: Which is why I'm poor now. :p
VardaValar1: back you go to money-making : )
Oessala: Actually, I bought the best small afterburner in the game....which alos makes the the most expensive. :\
Oessala: Heh, yup.
VardaValar1: grats for being able to!
Oessala: I have about 25m in loot that I'll sell to a friend.
Oessala: He melts down all the junk and resells the stuff worth reselling that I'm too lazy to. I get a tidy sum, he gets stuff at a little below market value.
Oessala: Everyone wins. :D
VardaValar1: aye
Oessala: Well, I'm off to finish re-writing my essay for rhetoric..
Oessala: I hate giving speeches..
Oessala: /me whimpers
VardaValar1: you can do it
Oessala: That's what they told Sisyphus...
VardaValar1: Might help to note a few people out there that you can sort of talk to, rather than seeing it as a faceless mass
VardaValar1: around the room, so you won't stare at one guy and scare him to death!
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.

Oessala: Let me know when you've got my info updated and I'll look over it.
Oessala: No rush though, it'll just change in a month anyways. :-)
VardaValar1: updated
VardaValar1: I did it while we were talking
VardaValar1: it's uploaded now tho
Oessala: Member activity page?
VardaValar1: aye
VardaValar1: 2006 is the one to check
VardaValar1: I am badly behind working on the activity sweep
Oessala: Haha, I have so much contact info. :p
VardaValar1: Hope it's right :-)
Oessala: Well half of it is just saying that I don't use it anymore, but it's right.
Oessala: Oooh, forgot about having AJ switch my name on WB...
Oessala: /me scurries off
VardaValar1: I may remove it where it says you don't use it anymore when it's done
Eonwe Valar: Where's the 2006 Activity page?
VardaValar1: aiya
Eonwe Valar: Heya
VardaValar1: did the link die a horrible death?
Eonwe Valar: Been here sorta
VardaValar1: Should be available from 2005
VardaValar1: But if you're having problems, 90% of others will too
Eonwe Valar: Only 2006 one I see if for Tolkien Only members
Eonwe Valar: if = is
VardaValar1: near top of 2005 page?
Eonwe Valar: Aye
Eonwe Valar: I think that's the problem
Eonwe Valar: the link for full members is on the ZTolkien only members line
Eonwe Valar: Tolkien, not ZTolkien :}
VardaValar1: ah hah
VardaValar1: it sure it
VardaValar1: is
VardaValar1: and no one told me before

Eonwe Valar: A note for you on the VK ME mod.
Eonwe Valar: I e-mailed them about it a few months ago, Khan responded that anyone who'd like to take a crack at updating it for the newest LoD version can go for it.
Eonwe Valar: I mentioned it at a meeting, but you might've missed that one.
VardaValar1: so they aren't going to update it
Eonwe Valar: Was skimming through the 2006 Activity and noted in mentioned for Khan aka Elrohir.
VardaValar1: I have been trying to figure out whether to call them active : )
Eonwe Valar: They have no plans to do so at the moment.
VardaValar1: be kind of weird dropping them
Eonwe Valar: Doesn't seem they've been heard from over on the Phrozen Forums either.
VardaValar1: They went over to WoW I think
VardaValar1: but they would be in Germany
Eonwe Valar: I think Elrohir is playing WoW and Lineage 2.
VardaValar1: Don't guess they responded to GPMU?
Eonwe Valar: One sec, I'll check
Eonwe Valar: Might've counted the e-mail as a response.
Eonwe Valar: OK, here's the E-mail
Eonwe Valar: I probably counted it for the GPMU since I sent it during the update.
VardaValar1: thanks
Eonwe Valar: Khan says they've "moved on to other thinks both in real life and in game life"
VardaValar1: moved on to other things than D2X Tolkien version? I can see that
VardaValar1: Most of us have
Eonwe Valar: It's Varaya aka Elrohir (just remembered Khan is Fingolfin) who plays Lineage 2
Eonwe Valar: Khan is in WoW
VardaValar1: Not both of them? ouch
VardaValar1: Since they kept in the guild mainly by keeping that mod available, they would have to do other things to stay in now
Eonwe Valar: well, techinically it's still available, just not up-to-date
VardaValar1: is this Elrohir's email?
VardaValar1: glor(AT)gmx.de
Eonwe Valar: I didn't bother updating LoD myself.
Eonwe Valar: no, Fingolfin's
Eonwe Valar: Khaaan(AT)gmx.de
VardaValar1: Khaaan(AT)gmx.de This I have for Fingolfin
Eonwe Valar: Aye :}
VardaValar1: so the glor one is still Elrohir's?
Eonwe Valar: or I misunderstood your question.
Eonwe Valar: Khaan is Fingolfin's glor is Elrohir's
VardaValar1: okies
Eonwe Valar: Khaaan rather
VardaValar1: But Fingolfin is the one who answered you with an email?
Eonwe Valar: yes
VardaValar1: okies
Eonwe Valar: I got nothing from Elrohir.
VardaValar1: alright
Eonwe Valar: I assume they stay in touch since Fingolfin knew enough to knew what Elrohir was playing.
VardaValar1: aye
VardaValar1: Ok, so I need to send them an email asking if they want to continue their membership
Eonwe Valar: Aye
VardaValar1: They may not remember they have it ;-)
Eonwe Valar: hehe

Eonwe Valar: That Tolkien trivia bot was pretty spiffy
VardaValar1: The membership requirements sure have changed
VardaValar1: Aye, it was very fun!
Eonwe Valar: if it was only book questions it would've been great.
VardaValar1: Especially up against a sharp guy like you
VardaValar1: It has a setting for book only
Eonwe Valar: interesting.
Eonwe Valar: I thought some of those answers were either too picky or not picky enough.
VardaValar1: It was in use already by some guys who were running it on general, throws alllll questions at yo
VardaValar1: It's very hard to do such a thing really well
Eonwe Valar: Aldarion instead of Eldarion really is something that should be caught :}
VardaValar1: He does take info to try to fix it
Eonwe Valar: that's good.
VardaValar1: That was the nearly spelled right thing kicking in
VardaValar1: It gets really tough
VardaValar1: I was pleased with the massive number of questions
VardaValar1: No repeats
Eonwe Valar: yet other names it had no qualms not accepting.
VardaValar1: Ok, you may program a bot for Valar : )
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: You are going into programming, right/
VardaValar1: ?
Eonwe Valar: At this point, I could get as far as the code, but not the compiling.
Eonwe Valar: yes
VardaValar1: We can wait!
VardaValar1: Nice thing about a long-lived book group
Eonwe Valar: Getting it to work with a chat room is a bit ahead of me at the moment though.

VardaValar1: The movie bunch is sure winding down in a hurry tho
Eonwe Valar: aye
VardaValar1: Lot of those sites disappeared or haven't updated in a long time
VardaValar1: I had hoped they would find the books and become all invigorated
VardaValar1: Add to the movies a lot
Eonwe Valar: www.tolkien-movies.com manages to have a community there anyway.
Eonwe Valar: I check that page every now and then. Not always Tolkien under discussion, but the fact that people still talk around there is a good thing.
VardaValar1: lots of updated news there : )
VardaValar1: I was mostly looking into fan fic and encycs
VardaValar1: Even Elatan quit working on Annals pretty much
VardaValar1: He did sooooo much
VardaValar1: Thanks, nice to see a live movie group : )
VardaValar1: I am wrecking Elatan's links with my slow revamp
Eonwe Valar: Aye, he did do alot.
Eonwe Valar: and your welcome :}
Eonwe Valar: you
Eonwe Valar: 're

Eonwe Valar: how goes the revamp?
Eonwe Valar: besides slowly? :}
VardaValar1: it's going along
VardaValar1: I have a php drop down box
Eonwe Valar: how much are you changing to php?
VardaValar1: I need to implement all over, but the white really sticks out on the page
VardaValar1: I know too little to change much yet! : )
VardaValar1: I am also looking into CSS
VardaValar1: I have so many things going, that all things are grinding down to cold molasses speed
VardaValar1: Articles I wanted to work on have been on hold for insanely long times
Eonwe Valar: Just do what you can when you can :}
VardaValar1: I do
VardaValar1: I need PHP for Dummies if they make one : )
Eonwe Valar: hehe
VardaValar1: and CSS for Dummies
VardaValar1: I try to find the stuff online and pull my hair out
VardaValar1: I want very specific things
Eonwe Valar: I'll e-mail you my php homework when I'm done with it :}
VardaValar1: ok :-)
Eonwe Valar: I don't even get a book for that class.
VardaValar1: Maybe they don't have PHP for Dummies : )
Eonwe Valar: makes me wonder how the instruction intends to teach.
Eonwe Valar: hehe
VardaValar1: handouts, online stuff
Eonwe Valar: instruction = instructor
VardaValar1: Go look it up on tutorials and teach yourself!
Eonwe Valar: that would be preferred over "jot this down"
VardaValar1: ugh
VardaValar1: that could be it
VardaValar1: I took one of the early HTML classes
VardaValar1: We learned so little
VardaValar1: I learned much more with View Source
VardaValar1: Can't do that with PHP
Eonwe Valar: I just hope it's not too ugly. I've got 2 other programming classes and intermediate German.
VardaValar1: Maybe you could help yourself with some tutorials
Eonwe Valar: But I'm more worried about Algorithms and German than I am of PHP anyway.
VardaValar1: Eowyn switched to ASP, but valarguild.org won't do that
Eonwe Valar: Well, not worried, exactly, but not looking forward to the workload either:}
VardaValar1: Understood
VardaValar1: I took my 20 hours per semester, science classes with labs
Eonwe Valar: Don't think I've heard of ASP
VardaValar1: Can feel for you
Eonwe Valar: ouch
Eonwe Valar: I can't imagine doing 20 hours per semester.
VardaValar1: I heard they don't allow it anymore
Eonwe Valar: you've got to get permission.
Eonwe Valar: for anything over 18 I think.
VardaValar1: I checked the movie site and saw what they had under Orlando Bloom
Eonwe Valar: Most I've done is 15 or 16.
VardaValar1: It is majorly outdated : )
Eonwe Valar: hehe
VardaValar1: that's plenty
Eonwe Valar: 12 is plenty when I've got a 1 hour drive :}
VardaValar1: 20 was considered a full load : )
Eonwe Valar: hehe
VardaValar1: I lived on campus
VardaValar1: I recommend living on campus if possible
Eonwe Valar: Not really possible.
VardaValar1: ah well
VardaValar1: Don't let me keep you up any longer : )
VardaValar1: I am finishing up a few things, fixing those links you mentioned and
VardaValar1: trying to work on my actual job a little
Eonwe Valar: ouch
Eonwe Valar: I think I will head out though.
VardaValar1: I can't really stand the addition of learning all this programming
VardaValar1: my time was already wiped
Eonwe Valar: I'd say don't then :}
VardaValar1: Get some rest if you can : )
VardaValar1: I like my drop down box tho : )
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: Easy to say "don't"
VardaValar1: But then who?
Eonwe Valar: We can only do so much.
VardaValar1: Hoping it will speed up the mass of HTML I"m doing
VardaValar1: That is only growing
VardaValar1: Some of this new stuff looks as if it could help on repetitive parts
VardaValar1: Just have to figure it out
Eonwe Valar: Just try not to take too much onto yourself.
VardaValar1: While you have teachers and books, use them!!!
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: Too late ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Try not to take more onto yourself until you finish some of the overload you've got now :}
VardaValar1: Was hoping it would help on the overload
VardaValar1: learning curve first
Eonwe Valar: If it does, fine, but it wouldn't be good if you got too burnt out from all this work.
Eonwe Valar: listen to me talk, heh :}
VardaValar1: I burnt out several times already
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: I re-light
Eonwe Valar: Just know we already appreciate all you do :}
VardaValar1: Thanks
VardaValar1: Wondered if I should rig counters
VardaValar1: hidden type
VardaValar1: figure out what people actually look at
Eonwe Valar: If you know how, sure, then send me the code.
VardaValar1: but do I care? : )
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Eonwe Valar: that is a question :}
VardaValar1: I don't think so very much
VardaValar1: But when Hyarion asks me stuff like how many articles do we have or how many hits/users whatever
VardaValar1: I have no idea
VardaValar1: I feel kind of dumb : )
VardaValar1: Does sound sort of basic
Eonwe Valar: Well, we've never really considered the numbers because it's supposed to be there for members :}
VardaValar1: Encyc is for all Tolkien fans
VardaValar1: artists, writers, movie-makers, curious
Eonwe Valar: Most of the pages are essentially for members.
VardaValar1: I try to make the Encyc usable by all
VardaValar1: Only feedback on it is generally from outside guild
Eonwe Valar: The Encyclopedia has a quality of contribution that's hard to find.
Eonwe Valar: In the contributions we do have.
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: I can't understand why no article on Gimli, etc
VardaValar1: I have a request list that remains ignored
VardaValar1: I'll just keep on trucking
Eonwe Valar: If I had the time, I'd fill in some of those :}
VardaValar1: Just one now and then would be nice
VardaValar1: You've put in quite a bit, thanks!
VardaValar1: Both short and long, all kinds of things
VardaValar1: Quite impressive
VardaValar1: Your author page is not up to date : )

Oessala: Hey, if either of you have the time, could you look over a short essay of mine and critique it for me?
Eonwe Valar: I've got others planned, but don't really find the time to get to them.
VardaValar1: I have three in the works now, stuck
VardaValar1: We don't have time, so put it up fast
VardaValar1: This your speech?
Oessala: Yup.
Eonwe Valar: How long of an essay are we talking?
VardaValar1: Different kind of critique
Eonwe Valar: OK, we're talking about a speech.
Oessala: About five lines over a page.
Oessala: :p
Eonwe Valar: 5 lines over a page? so 5 very long sentences?
Eonwe Valar: or just 5 lines out of the entire page?
Oessala: 1 page + 5 lines.
Eonwe Valar: ah, gotcha
Oessala: It's 1am, and I exhasuted all of my wirting powers on the sssay, gimme a break. :p
Oessala: ...see?
Eonwe Valar: Do you have access to the Yahoo discussion board and a microphone? :}
Oessala: No mic, just critique what I've got for my 'script'.
VardaValar1: We must all be on CST : )
Oessala: ...nothing can help my speaking skills. ._.
VardaValar1: Try Toastmasters
VardaValar1: Shoot us the essay
Eonwe Valar: I reserve the right to make you rewrite it all in 20 minutes :}
Oessala: Only be for the nth time, so...
Eonwe Valar: ok, I've downloaded this, so where is it?
Oessala: Wherever AIMK file transfers go? :p
Oessala: It's just a .pdf.
Oessala: AIMK=AIM
Eonwe Valar: I don't know :}
Eonwe Valar: oh, it made a new download folder just for it.
Eonwe Valar: bah
Eonwe Valar: last thing I need is more folders :}
Oessala: I'm just that special. :D
VardaValar1: You sent it to Eonwe?
Eonwe Valar: Over AIM, yes
VardaValar1: okies
VardaValar1: Good morning gentles :-)
Eonwe Valar: Take care :}
