Web:
    Story page
New stories by Jay of Lasgalen
Discussion of additional methods on how to sort. (3 responses)
Do we want all stories listed chronologically? Impractical except under an author, where it is a good idea.
            Sort by Author, Title, Date?
Currently have pages for looking up by Author, Character, Title, with new ones listed on the general News and on the What's New on the Stories Page.
How do you folks feel about having guest writers like Jay added to our pages? Good, unhappy, indifferent? (Only one response.)
Humor Page new link from Haleth. Request for humor bits from our own members who can give better quality than many of these outside sources.
AIMfire program makes AIM usable inside games. Tested in-Guild on some games already: Day of Defeat: Source and Counter Strike: Source and Flatout
Gaming:
    BroodWar
    BZ Flag
    Sacred
    WoW Europe

Tolkien
Differences between books and movies, especially ones good for entry testing. Quite a list!

ArPharazonV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya!
ArPharazonV: Aiya all
VardaValar1: I assume you are all busy in other pursuits at the same time as this chat?
ArathornValar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya

ArPharazonV: well, I just logged out of WoW, so I'm free!
VardaValar1: Not sure whether to commisserate or be glad : )

Menelvagor Valar: Good evening.
Menelvagor Valar: I see you made it Srekal :-)
VardaValar1: Hey there
Srekal86: ;-)
FarmerMaggotV: wouldn't help, I've been kinda sitting here for a while listening to music without typing, and it still hurts, bleh, it happens quite a bit
ArathornValar: *grills self with special smoky coating...*
Menelvagor Valar: afk for a minute or two while I find the inn in Booty :-)
VardaValar1: Now you look Hamish. Maybe it would help Farmer
VardaValar1: Don't take a long walk off those short piers in Booty Bay!
VardaValar1: Eonwe's been handling the meetings for the last two times, so I'll return the favor today
top

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: Membership News:
VardaValar1: Most interesting news came from Dwalin-(TV), who has discovered he and his wife will be parents : )
VardaValar1: He says he lost his focus on anything outside that, but says hi : )
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Eonwe1
VardaValar1: !
Eonwe Valar: Heya. Was having problems getting in.
VardaValar1: I assume you've all had some exciting times during the holidays, and hope you are all now recovering nicely
VardaValar1: Is there any further Membership news?
VardaValar1: Oh, I've had some more email requests to join, probably as Tolkien onlies though
Menelvagor Valar: understandable and congrats to Dwalin!
ArathornValar: er.. I have a new Shmurgleflutzin..
VardaValar1: Gilraen just messaged
ArathornValar: not sure what it IS tho :-\
VardaValar1: Her mom is having a birthday party today, to which she is making a mad dash to reach
VardaValar1: Good luck to her!
GwaihirValar: I'm not sure if I'll be here for much, I'll prolly be going to rest... as I have another nasty ear infection... but while I'm here... hullo and happy new years! ;-)

VardaValar1: Hope you feel better soon, Gwaihir. Thanks for dropping by!
VardaValar1: Any further Member news? Besides all the guild-friends we seem to be collecting? : )
GwaihirValar: I hope so as well hehe ;-)
VardaValar1: *Healing potion for the eagle, if anyone can reach his ear*

VardaValar1: Web News:
VardaValar1: Tolkien Encyclopedia's Story page has had the great good fortune to
VardaValar1: have Jay of Lasgalen's permission to reprint all her stories
VardaValar1: She is one of the finest Tolkien fan fiction writers out there, so you are all in for a treat
VardaValar1: Fangorn says hi, right over my shoulder : )
VardaValar1: I'm trying to put all her stories in chronological order, according to Tolkien's world
Menelvagor Valar: Hi Fangorn.
VardaValar1: This led to wondering if the guild would like all the stories put in a chronological timeline?
VardaValar1: It would probably be just story titles with a link to the author also
ArathornValar: o.O .. looks over Fang's shoulder...
ArPharazonV: that could be nice, but it'd still have to be per region... for example, multiple tales or series of tales could be happening about simultaneously
VardaValar1: Would this be something you folks would want or should I leave it as is?
VardaValar1: Aye, Phar
VardaValar1: They would be clustered together in a section, as being at near the same time
ArPharazonV: and cutting them up for a perfect chrono-order would then be very inconvenient
Srekal86: maybe give the option to sort by title/year/author/etc/publication date/etc?
ArPharazonV: take, for example, the difference Lotr-timelines between books and movie
VardaValar1: We are a book club so it would have to use that
VardaValar1: We have the other options already, excpet publication date, Srekal/Hyarion
ArPharazonV: in the books, whole series of chapters, though they chronologically pass through each other, are seperated, while in the movie they are actually shown through each other
VardaValar1: The title, author, and character pages let one choose that way
ArPharazonV: if you get my point
VardaValar1: I do
VardaValar1: Lot of work
VardaValar1: So you don't think it's worth it
VardaValar1: Just choppy
ArPharazonV: no, no
ArPharazonV: I like timelines, could be nice
VardaValar1: Ok, I can just make the author's lists by chronology and that should work fine
Eonwe Valar: I like it the way it is personally, but I'm flexible on this.
ArPharazonV: but as I said, you should cluster them together in regions or larger eras of time, so series of tales don't go seperated in the timeline
VardaValar1: Thanks Eonwe
VardaValar1: It would be an addition, not a change
VardaValar1: Just like we have pages for Titles, Characters, and Authors
VardaValar1: If there's no particular liking for the idea, I don't mind not doing that much work ;-)
VardaValar1: Another membership bit, Arathorn's dad is having a birthday today too
Menelvagor Valar: grats!
ArPharazonV: grats
Eonwe Valar: Happy Birthday to Arathorn's dad.
ArathornValar: hes 83... pushing for 135 he says :-P
VardaValar1: Good for him!
ArathornValar: dang if he doesnt DO it o.O
Menelvagor Valar: haha :-)
Menelvagor Valar: tell him we wish him good luck on that!
ArathornValar: Ill be his 90 year old son helping with the rope!!
VardaValar1: I've also been experimenting on the News page, looking for a better "look". Comments for and against are welcome before they spread
ArathornValar: "more tomato!!!* "Dad we have 7200....!" no more!!!
VardaValar1: Here is Jay's Author page, in chronological order, as far as I've gotten
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/fiction/authorsT/JayofLasgalen/JayofLasgalen.htm
Menelvagor Valar: (which makes Arathorn 38 at this moment :-))
VardaValar1: uh, right, Menel ;-)
VardaValar1: But you guys might get a kick out of just reading the latest up for the holidays
VardaValar1: Winter Wonders:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/fiction/authorsT/JayofLasgalen/stories/WinterWonders.htm
VardaValar1: One chapter, and a fun read
VardaValar1: Barahir says he will probably be unable to do more than an infrequent email
VardaValar1: He will be losing his connection for a long while starting this year
VardaValar1: but hopes to be back later this year
VardaValar1: He will keep in touch from India by Internet Cafe when he can
VardaValar1: Is there any other Web News, or more out of order Member News? : )
FarmerMaggotV: *web news*
VardaValar1: Farmer, yes, sorry. He did message earlier
VardaValar1: Go for it, Farmer!
Menelvagor Valar: Web news, in a bit.
FarmerMaggotV: http://codeshock.com/software/AIMFire.shtml
FarmerMaggotV: Basically, in combination with XFire (http://xfire.com) it allows you to talk to AIM buddies from inside games.
FarmerMaggotV: I'd like to get around to adding chat support (I have the AIM side done, but not the XFire side), but that's an interesting beast to tackle, and I've got other things to do lately
ArathornValar: sweet
ArathornValar: which games?
FarmerMaggotV: *finding list*
VardaValar1: "Real Life" does get in the way ;-)
FarmerMaggotV: http://www.xfire.com/xf/modules.php?name =XFire&file=games
FarmerMaggotV: the ones that have the chat bubble next to them
ArPharazonV: lo! WoW is among them...
VardaValar1: yay!
VardaValar1: Is this one of those add-ons that kill our guild-friend channel? Had some trouble from Cosmos on that, and dropped it for that and other reasons
FarmerMaggotV: it's more or less a proof of concept hack I was playing with that I polished up nice =)
FarmerMaggotV: eh Varda?
VardaValar1: Have you tried it on any games?
FarmerMaggotV: ys
FarmerMaggotV: *yes
VardaValar1: Great! Which ones?
FarmerMaggotV: I've used it on Day of Defeat: Source and Counter Strike: Source and Flatout
FarmerMaggotV: AIMFire's current limitations are no chat support and no talking to buddies off your buddy list, but other than that it works very well
FarmerMaggotV: Orodreth did a large ammount of the testing for me =)
ArPharazonV: *cheers at Orodreth*
ArPharazonV: sorry, WoW habit
VardaValar1: Go Orodreth!
VardaValar1: Sounds interesting
VardaValar1: Maybe we can find some more testers for you
VardaValar1: Menelvagor, are you ready with your web news?
VardaValar1: Menelvagor has been working on the Humor page
Menelvagor Valar: okies.
Menelvagor Valar: about a week or 2 ago, I was sent a link by Haleth to a site which contains 50 reasons on why the LotR movies suck.
Menelvagor Valar: It is meant as a humorous thing, however, much of it more resembles someone ignorably flaming at it.
Menelvagor Valar: Now, there are some funny remarks in there, which makes it worth quoting from.
Menelvagor Valar: I am doing so right now.
Menelvagor Valar: I will also add the link for those brave enough to disregard my warning :-)
Menelvagor Valar: I'll give a holler when I'm finished and have it up.
VardaValar1: It's kind of a thing that makes one who knows the books have a "superior" feeling, or find it humorous
VardaValar1: We could really use humor from you folks here, who have good taste
VardaValar1: A lot of these humor things could have been done just as well or much better with the addition of a little taste
GwaihirValar: okay I'm sorry I can't stay longer, friends... I need to go rest now... goodnight folks :-)
VardaValar1: Surely we have people here who can use screen caps and add funny captions
VardaValar1: Roost well, Gwaihir
ArPharazonV: Namarie, Gwai
VardaValar1: Is there any further Web News?
FarmerMaggotV has left the room.
FarmerMaggotV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: How do you folks feel about having guest writers like Jay added to our pages? Good, unhappy, indifferent? : )
ArPharazonV: I don't read fanfiction very often, but it's not bad to have a growing collection, especially if the writers are good
VardaValar1: If members find a writer they would like me to approach, let me know
VardaValar1: I know a huge collection of writers I may have to ask, but need a better way to handle the story pile
VardaValar1: I am also starting to feel the room pinch, and may have to start spreading them across servers

VardaValar1: Gaming News:
VardaValar1: Has anyone been playing anything other than WoW this week? : )
Srekal86: /me played some broodwar
ArPharazonV: I went on BZflag for a few minutes... anyone still playing that?
VardaValar1: Thorondor is playing Sacred and also asks if anyone is playing there. He is Thorondor-Valar there
ArathornValar has left the room.
VardaValar1: Guess not, that is paying attention, Phar
ArPharazonV: :-)
FladrifV: I haven't played it for a long time
VardaValar1: Hey there, Fladrif : )
ArPharazonV: maybe we should get together again, I'm sure the lack of play for both of us has made us about equal again ;-)
FarmerMaggotV: heh
FladrifV: hehe
FarmerMaggotV: I'd probably play if anyone was getting a game together
FladrifV: and Ayia
FladrifV: sorry was in a battle arena
VardaValar1: This is the place to get together for those things : )
VardaValar1: Hit AIM, or even this chat room
Menelvagor Valar: Holler.
VardaValar1: hehe - side window discussions here please : )
VardaValar1: *Hopes Fladrif's bark is still intact*
ArPharazonV: well then, we should get together again then... and a battle arena?
FladrifV: /me has quite a few wounds
Humor Page:
Menelvagor Valar: http://valarguild.org/menelvagor/humortext.ht ml#moviehumor
ArPharazonV: *casts regrowth*
Menelvagor Valar: quick link to the updated section of the humor page :-)
Menelvagor Valar: out of 50 reasons, I was only able to grab 4 that appealed to me as "humorous"
ArPharazonV: "Experts on the occult say in order for a wizard to floorspin a fully-grown man like Gandalf, he'd need three magical staffs, not two."
ArPharazonV: *groan*
Menelvagor Valar: and to imagine that is one of the funniest :-)
VardaValar1: scary
FladrifV: anyone who plays the lordoftherings bord game?
VardaValar1: Maybe you guys can find some funny humor sites for our links : )
Arwen V1: brb, reboot
Arwen V1 has left the room.
VardaValar1: Too many D&D games going on here
ArPharazonV: "The rushed-through story the screenwriter threw in as the first ten minutes of Fellowship of the Ring looked a lot more interesting than the movie we were forced to watch. Why didn't somebody make a movie off that instead?"
VardaValar1: Got another one going downstairs now
ArPharazonV: now that is one good idea...
VardaValar1: Still waiting for the Hobbit : )
ArPharazonV: indeed :-)
VardaValar1: The Silmarillion would be so worked on by outside writers, that it could really suffer
VardaValar1: WoW Europe gamers have a report? Menelvagor?
Menelvagor Valar: not much, due to holidays.
Menelvagor Valar: just the usual things.
ArPharazonV: well, there was VanCleef on monday
Menelvagor Valar: talk is going about getting a second raid group set up.
Menelvagor Valar: oh yes!
Menelvagor Valar: quite! :-)
ArPharazonV: Menel and I decided to duo the Deadmines with our 2 paladins
Menelvagor Valar: Phar's being 27, mine 26.
ArPharazonV: we were both 26 when we agreed upon it last Sunday, but I got to 27 that same night
Menelvagor Valar: I think we took about 1.5 to 2 hours :-)
ArPharazonV: a perfect combination of tanking, healing and dps!
Menelvagor Valar: indeed!
ArPharazonV: we got a bit of trouble at the Shredder, but it all went quite smoothly afterwards
ArPharazonV: did either of us die at any point?
Menelvagor Valar: nope.
Menelvagor Valar: We did use our Lay on Hands with VC, but that was to be expected with VC + 4 elites :-)
ArPharazonV: :-)
Menelvagor Valar: At any rate, it was a great success :-)
ArPharazonV: in all, it was great practise for our paladins
ArPharazonV: *practice
ArPharazonV: *what's the word?
Menelvagor Valar: practice.
ArPharazonV: ok
FladrifV: oh I have some news too
Menelvagor Valar: Go ahead.
FladrifV: I finaly made myself a gnomish engineer
FladrifV: with my priest alt
FladrifV: and got him up to 34
Menelvagor Valar: nice!
ArPharazonV: nice indeed
FladrifV: only noticed that the nifty devices are expensive
FladrifV: and very very unstable
FladrifV: need to work on it
Menelvagor Valar: hehe :-)
ArPharazonV: heheh... that's Gnomish engineering for ya...
VardaValar1: We gnomish engineers have that problem : )
FladrifV: aye
Menelvagor Valar: I got my rogue up to 45 today :-)
VardaValar1: Congrats : )
FladrifV: /me turns back to his tree form
VardaValar1: Do you see any other Valar there, for our Activity sweep?
Menelvagor Valar: you are in your tree form, Flad.
VardaValar1: Valandil?
Menelvagor Valar: haven't seen him in a while.
VardaValar1: In EverQuest, you could have a tree form : )
Menelvagor Valar: Phar, is he still in THG?
ArPharazonV: you should make a druid, Flad... and specialise in barkskin :-)
ArPharazonV: Valandil? yes, he still is
ArPharazonV: don't see him very often, but at least once last week
ArPharazonV: if he left since then, I have no idea why
VardaValar1: Ok, thanks
VardaValar1: I'm behind on the Activity Sweep
Menelvagor Valar: that means he's still around :-)
VardaValar1: If you guys see someone who has a question mark on the 2006 page, you might let me know, or him to contact me
VardaValar1: Emails change fast
VardaValar1: I'm not sure Eonwe's there, but if you are, WoW Lothar report?
VardaValar1: We've been doing a lot of grouping all through the holidays, very lively time : )
VardaValar1: Doing various instances
VardaValar1: Last night some of our low guys hit Black Fathom Deeps
VardaValar1: We hit Scholo and Dire Maul
VardaValar1: Ulmo and Gelmir came back to join in for those
VardaValar1: Any further gaming news?
top

VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: First, who is here?
Menelvagor Valar: I
ArPharazonV: II
FladrifV: II
FladrifV: I
Menelvagor Valar: Phar, in that case, you'd be III
ArPharazonV: heh
VardaValar1: Those simultaneous typings are tough : )
VardaValar1: IV
Menelvagor Valar: no, I meant it more like I II
ArPharazonV: ...right
FladrifV: /me scratches his bark
Menelvagor Valar: oh, some late membership news :-)
VardaValar1: Have any of you done any Tolkien reading, even fan fic, or watched teh movies lately?
VardaValar1: Menel go ahead
Menelvagor Valar: well, I've got new glasses (after the old ones got dropped into a canal by accident), so after just about 2 weeks of chronic tiredness and headaches over the strain to see properly, I can finally see again! :-)
Menelvagor Valar: (oh btw, which syllable is stressed in canal? is it cánal or canál?)
ArPharazonV: I think it's canál, but chánnel, so to speak
LouieKisKowsKi has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Ca NAL is the stress
Menelvagor Valar: Welcome back Arathorn :-)
VardaValar1: Aiya Elros : )
ArPharazonV: but hey, you're the english-teacher-wannabe... you tell me!
Menelvagor Valar: woops! :-)
LouieKisKowsKi: aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya :-)
Menelvagor Valar: that's why I'm asking, Phar :-)
VardaValar1: Congrats on new-found sight, Menelvagor : )
Menelvagor Valar: thanks, and glad to too.
LouieKisKowsKi: send the link i would like to see?
Menelvagor Valar: oh, and speaking of english teaching, I invented a new tongue twister, in true holiday spirit :-)
VardaValar1: Pardon, link to what/
VardaValar1: ?
LouieKisKowsKi: the site?
LouieKisKowsKi: or like eeste
LouieKisKowsKi: eye
Menelvagor Valar: When a slaying sleigh slayed a sleighing sleigh, the slaying sleigh sleighed on the slayed sleigh.
ArPharazonV: isn't it slain?
LouieKisKowsKi: wow
LouieKisKowsKi: ok i am too drunk to understand ita ll, love and peace, namarie
VardaValar1: Namarie
ArPharazonV: namarie
VardaValar1: Glad you came by : )
VardaValar1: We were about to choose a Tolkien topic
Menelvagor Valar: hmm... I think both are correct, but not entirely sure, Varda?
VardaValar1: Don't forget to use slew
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: Ok, we are always needing this particular thing for entry tests:
VardaValar1: Name something in the books different from something in the movies. : )
VardaValar1: Something we could ask entry people who will probably never read this transcript
FladrifV: I remember that question...
ArPharazonV: hmm.... you wouldn't think it would be this hard to come up with a single difference
ArPharazonV: ok, Glorfindel-Arwen, for example
FarmerMaggotV: I got asked that
ArPharazonV: the absence of Fatty Bolger and the house at Crickhollow
ArPharazonV: the absence of Tom Bombadil, the Old Forest, and the Barrown Downs
ArPharazonV: *Barrow
Menelvagor Valar: hmmm...
Menelvagor Valar: one sec and I'll look a couple up.
ArPharazonV: Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas going into the Paths of the Dead by themselves
VardaValar1: No rangers or Elladan and Elrohir
FladrifV: Im missing in the movie...
VardaValar1: Legolas never gets the Sea-longing
ArPharazonV: the Dead coming to rescue Minas Tirith
VardaValar1: gahh : )
Menelvagor Valar: The Elessar's origin
Menelvagor Valar: given to Aragorn by Galadriel, instead of by Arwen in the movies.
ArPharazonV: indeed
Menelvagor Valar: Saruman's death
VardaValar1: No Scouring!
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
FarmerMaggotV has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar: Faramir's attitude to the Quest of the Ring-bearer
VardaValar1: The Elessar is green, never broken
FarmerMaggotV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Eomer's part at Helm's Deep
Menelvagor Valar: Those 3 were provided by Turgon-V as his entry test question :-)
ArPharazonV: Elves at Helm's Deep
VardaValar1: Faramir never forced Frodo to show the Ring
VardaValar1: Eomer wasn't exiled, just jailed a while
ArPharazonV: Gollum's little dance in Mount Doom ;-)
VardaValar1: The Southern Rangers didn't beat Gollum
VardaValar1: Gollum did do a dance in Mt. Doom
VardaValar1: That's when he died
ArPharazonV: exactly
FladrifV: ents didn't sleep?
ArPharazonV: in the books, he danced, slipped, and went over the edge
VardaValar1: He was still holding Frodo's finger with the Ring on it
VardaValar1: The Ring was still operating under Frodo's orders and the promise
ArPharazonV: in the movie, it was the struggle with Frodo that caused his downfall (literally)
FladrifV: namarie
VardaValar1: It knew it was on Frodo's finger, should not have been endangered
ArPharazonV: well, it's a difference in detail at least
VardaValar1: Namarie
ArPharazonV: namarie
FladrifV has left the room.
VardaValar1: I guess they needed a more visual struggle
ArPharazonV: let's see, what else...
VardaValar1: The real one was so subtle
ArPharazonV: pippin looking in the Palantir at Edoras, instead of in the midst of nowhere
ArPharazonV: pippin lighting the first beacon
VardaValar1: Aragorn's way of looking in the Palantir
ArPharazonV: Aragorn's location when looking into the Palantir :-)
ArPharazonV: Arwen's impending death
VardaValar1: aye
VardaValar1: Aragorn going over the cliff
VardaValar1: The Rohirrim all going to Helm's Deep
ArPharazonV: Hama dying to a Warg-attack (yes, I noticed the detail)
ArPharazonV: Haldir dying in Helm's Deep
VardaValar1: Not picking on you, trying to think of things
LouieKisKowsKi: getting Anduril so late
VardaValar1: Elves other than Legolas at Helm's Deep
LouieKisKowsKi: the entwives
VardaValar1: Elrond showing up in Rohan
Menelvagor Valar: did you get Fangorn and his little stroll to Isengard?
LouieKisKowsKi: praise them with great praise
VardaValar1: Ok to repeat : )
LouieKisKowsKi: the glittering caves
ArPharazonV: aye, the field of Cormallen
LouieKisKowsKi: hahahahah
LouieKisKowsKi: the swords
LouieKisKowsKi: and why there were witch-banable
VardaValar1: Arwen's sword, now sold in shops : )
ArPharazonV: Saruman being the direct cause of the snowstorm at Caradhras
VardaValar1: Moth
LouieKisKowsKi: yea that was lame
LouieKisKowsKi: no radagast
VardaValar1: Pretty, neat, but huh?
LouieKisKowsKi: Faramir was the biggest dissapopintment
LouieKisKowsKi: he was so dynamic in the books
LouieKisKowsKi: and all round another hero
VardaValar1: Aye, Faramir was really treated badly by the movie
ArPharazonV: Frodo and Sam in Osgiliath...
VardaValar1: The Extended helped
LouieKisKowsKi: yea that whole scenario
ArPharazonV: Frodo nearly impaling Sam on Sting at Osgiliath
LouieKisKowsKi: the mouth of sauron
VardaValar1: The Ring being seen by a Nazgul in Osgiliath
LouieKisKowsKi: the mouth of sauron should have come
LouieKisKowsKi: that was a good part
VardaValar1: The Mouth came in the Extended
ArPharazonV: he did
LouieKisKowsKi: that is crap
ArPharazonV: but he got his head chopped off way too early
LouieKisKowsKi: its not the one i paid 9 bucks to see likek 3 times
VardaValar1: Just three? ;-)
VardaValar1: True
LouieKisKowsKi: yea each
ArPharazonV: I just saw Rotk in the cinema... the rest I saw on dvd
LouieKisKowsKi: makes me so mad but i am also glad kids who dont read know the story
VardaValar1: I like that it started a lot of kids reading something heavier than Harry Potter
LouieKisKowsKi: i wrote letters to people trying to get a part in choosing what they made in a Silmarrillion move
LouieKisKowsKi: movie
VardaValar1: That would be an interesting project
ArPharazonV: a movie would never be able to do the Silmarillion justice
VardaValar1: It would need to be a series of movies
ArPharazonV: a lengthy series of movies, perhaps... but not one movie... not even a trilogy
ArPharazonV: heh, thinking the same thing :-)
LouieKisKowsKi: well i wanted to do one very like clash of the titans style, little dialogue, but crazhing scnenes with music and stuff more like fantasia, telling the story like that
VardaValar1: Think of the marketing possibilities ;-)
VardaValar1: That might be the only way to do it in one movie, would confuse anyone who didn't read it
LouieKisKowsKi: Ulmo's theme would be like totally classical and such
LouieKisKowsKi: yea it would be for fans only
ArPharazonV: I still think they should make a tv-series out of it... but one that actually follows the story instead of tossing random adventures in it like they do with too many series based on books
VardaValar1: TV generally wouldn't have the required budget
ArPharazonV: true
LouieKisKowsKi: i heard they were making a dragonriders of pern show on sci fi chanel in canada
VardaValar1: Oh really! I'd like to see that
LouieKisKowsKi: yea me too
VardaValar1: Is it live or animated?
VardaValar1: Animated might be a way to handle a lot of budget problems, but so easy to wreck
LouieKisKowsKi: live I think
LouieKisKowsKi: i think they should use the dragons and effecxts like in dragonheart for it, the mechanics seemed good
VardaValar1: Maybe it will come out on DVD : )
LouieKisKowsKi: just maybe make the dragon less generic Medival legend and more streamlined monitor lizard style
VardaValar1: Dragonheart was pretty smooth
ArPharazonV: I loved Dragonheart! Even the sequel was nice, though less good
VardaValar1: The technology is just catching up to be able to handle fantasy books
LouieKisKowsKi: Narnia was horrible, sorry for anyone who liked it
VardaValar1: Narnia did seem geared to kids
LouieKisKowsKi: yo I am a dweeb i even liked the dungeons and dragons book
Menelvagor Valar: heh, I'm going to watch Narnia in a bit :-)
LouieKisKowsKi: the old lion witch and the wardrobe was better and it was animated
VardaValar1: Then I'll hush : )
LouieKisKowsKi: wait for dvd
VardaValar1: There were some really good graphics, such as the lion and centaurs and faun
LouieKisKowsKi: Its just lame
LouieKisKowsKi: I mean we know what works do we not
ArPharazonV: I'm thinking of getting some fantasy books as a belated christmas-present... either Discworld or Warcraft... there's some pretty good stuff in there
LouieKisKowsKi: Jim henson rang it up with the Dark Crystal and labrynth and Willow was absolutely sick
ArPharazonV: they should make a Discworld movie ;-)
LouieKisKowsKi: why werent more movies made in the style of willow
LouieKisKowsKi: people got pumped on that movie
LouieKisKowsKi: i am gonna go watch it right now
ArPharazonV: what's Willow about? I heard a lot about it, but never seen it
VardaValar1: I loved Willow : )
VardaValar1: I have it at home
LouieKisKowsKi: its about people in a a fantasy world being totally awesome
LouieKisKowsKi: Burblecut is a jerk
VardaValar1: They used real people for the small folk
LouieKisKowsKi: i mean its the moral of the story
LouieKisKowsKi: yea they went Time Bandits and hired a grou of small actors
LouieKisKowsKi has left the room.
VardaValar1: Wow. Someone else saw Time Bandits : )
ArPharazonV: ..so, anyway, what was Willow about exactly?
VardaValar1: Willow is one of the small Elwen people
VardaValar1: His family pulls a basket out of the water with a human (Dakini) girl baby in it
VardaValar1: a la Moses type
VardaValar1: She is being sought for by the evil witch queen
VardaValar1: Willow must return her to humans to raise
VardaValar1: and gets dragged into politics and magic
VardaValar1: Go see it : )
ArPharazonV: maybe I will :-)
VardaValar1: Willow is one of the most likable characters in movie fiction
VardaValar1: Ok I should let you guys go : )
VardaValar1: Get in some sleep or gaming
top

After-meeting:
VardaValar1: Anyone off Monday?
FarmerMaggotV: me
VardaValar1: ah cool : )
ArPharazonV: my vacation's still continuing for like a month...
VardaValar1: yay!
VardaValar1: I hope Lord of the Rings Online will let both hemispheres play together
VardaValar1: This WoW thing is most annoying
ArPharazonV: my main got a lot of things done this week...
ArPharazonV: including lots of quests it's normally hard to get groups for
ArPharazonV: I've defeated Rakh'likh, the demon, in the Blasted Lands
ArPharazonV: we had a raid for The Calling in Silithus
VardaValar1: Silithus has been a blast : )
ArPharazonV: took down the Last Barov at the Bulwark
ArPharazonV: did a full run of Dire Maul East, and got 4 quests finished
ArPharazonV: no, 3... the fourth is for DM north
ArPharazonV: my questlog's down to 12
VardaValar1: Unreal : )
ArPharazonV: I'll head to the Chapel in the Plaguelands soon, and pick up all those Stratholme quests I'd left waiting
VardaValar1: I barely have the key to Dire Maul, would like to run it more, but the bow in Scholomance is calling : )
ArPharazonV: I got the key today :-)
VardaValar1: Congrats : )
ArPharazonV: after the Stratholme quests, it's just a few quests for Zul'Gurub remaining... and then it's almost completely down to repeatables for my main
ArPharazonV: speaking of repeatables, I almost got to 10k in revered with Ironforge... I can't wait until I finally have the Ram!
VardaValar1: You may have to wait, but congrats on a lot of work!
ArPharazonV: 223 stacks of runecloth to go :-)
VardaValar1: ouch
ArPharazonV: it doesn't seem so much when you consider it was twice as much less than a month ago..
ArPharazonV: don't worry, I am getting there ;-)
VardaValar1: yay : )
ArPharazonV: got another bargain today in Ironforge.. 154 runecloth for 10 gold... that's nothing compared to the prices you see in the Auction House
ArPharazonV: in the meanwhile I'm spending my time at the Twilight Base Camp in Silithus... those twilights drop huge amounts of runecloth, and die fairly quickly to my catform
VardaValar1: Maybe I should just let you go play WoW now. : )
ArPharazonV: I've also expanded my long-term-goals to include the Breastplate of Bloodthirst for my catgear, http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?wit em=12757
ArPharazonV: and a few trinkets from those darkmoon cards
ArPharazonV: our main tank in the raidalliance got the first half of the Bindings of the Windseeker today, so he's about to spend 3400 gold as well...
ArPharazonV: I mean this week, not today
ArPharazonV: so I have a lot planned for my druid's career in the future
ArPharazonV: we got to phase 2 in the Razorgore fight in Blackwing Lair this week, so we're making steady progress
VardaValar1: grats
ArPharazonV: I got my Cenarion Leggings this week, just the Gloves to go
ArPharazonV: but I still think our greatest achievement of the week was duoing Deadmines... it was so amazing
VardaValar1: Farmer's over here helping me work out my structure on the site, pardon if a bit scattered
VardaValar1: Deadmines, we had a bunch of us doing that too
VardaValar1: Cool
ArPharazonV: aye, Menelvagor and myself... a fine example of Valarguild-cooperation ;-)
ArPharazonV: put 2 paladins together and they'll survive a long time... too bad it's hard to pull without ranged attacks
VardaValar1: I've been a bit stunned at the diff between Valar teamwork doing with a few people what others need huge numbers for
ArPharazonV: haha
ArPharazonV: ever done battlegrounds together?
VardaValar1: We considered it, didn't have enough interested at the same time
FarmerMaggotV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: anyone still here?
VardaValar1: Aiya
ArPharazonV: it's been about an hour, the meeting seems to have died out...
ArPharazonV: shall I save and send?
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: Sure
VardaValar1: The meeting was adjourned earlier
ArPharazonV: true
VardaValar1: Thanks for coming and for sending transcripts!
ArPharazonV: :-)
ArPharazonV: here's to another year of all that!
VardaValar1: Yay!
ArPharazonV: and there's the first transcript ending with -2006...
ArPharazonV: saved
VardaValar1: Thanks : )
ArPharazonV: sent
VardaValar1: : )
ArPharazonV: well, in that case, I'll go play a bit of WoW until it's time for bed
VardaValar1: Sounds good : )
VardaValar1: Happy hunting!
ArPharazonV: I found the Tuber Surprise-recipe today in DM
ArPharazonV: and decided to train cooking a bit, it was only at 195
VardaValar1: When you went for the key : )
VardaValar1: I got it too
ArPharazonV: yup
VardaValar1: ahh, good time for it : )
ArPharazonV: so now I'm travelling around the world cooking stuff and finding recipes :-)
ArPharazonV: will resume normal runecloth-farming after that's all over
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Do both
VardaValar1: Don't have to do just one thing
ArPharazonV: one task requires me to stay put and farm in Silithus for a long time... the other requires me to travel, fish, hunt, cook, and seldom get any runecloth.... hard to put them together
ArPharazonV: so I'll do both indeed, but not at the same time
VardaValar1: : )
VardaValar1: turns are good
VardaValar1: and fish in Felwood!
ArPharazonV: atm I'm fishing Mithril Headed Trout in the Arathi Highlands... pretty close to the major urban areas, and good for cooking
VardaValar1: cool
ArPharazonV: and the trolls there don't drop a lot of runecloth ;-)
VardaValar1: k
VardaValar1: carry your own firewood and flint and tinder for cooking
ArPharazonV: no need, Refuge Pointe is just around the corner...
VardaValar1: k
ArPharazonV: which has a pretty nice bonfire
VardaValar1: Keeps you from being tied to a town so much
ArPharazonV: true
CaranthirV has entered the room.
CaranthirV: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya

CaranthirV: yes
VardaValar1: That gives our other channel
VardaValar1: Should see many more than three
CaranthirV: ill have to try that next time i get on
VardaValar1: Well, play where you are happy
VardaValar1: Do you have a good place to stay now?
CaranthirV: sry bu i gtg now tty soon
VardaValar1: Ok, namarie
CaranthirV: Namarie
ArPharazonV: namarie
CaranthirV has left the room.
Xseanzee disco has entered the room.
Xseanzee disco has left the room.
ArPharazonV: Namarie all
VardaValar1: Aiya
VardaValar1: Namarie
ArPharazonV has left the room.
Orodreth V: ....hahaha I completely frogot there was a meeting today
Orodreth V: Yet I was in here from eonwe's invite yester for a new year's partay
VardaValar1: Hi there
Orodreth V: Aiya
Orodreth V: How'd the meeting go? :p
VardaValar1: It was good : )
Orodreth V: There's amusement for ya.
VardaValar1: We enjoyed each other's company
Orodreth V: Oh, and I'm not going to play WoW ever, I'm afraid.
VardaValar1: What happened?
Orodreth V: ...I'm hooked on Eve and have the monies to pay for it.
Orodreth V: <.<
VardaValar1: grats
VardaValar1: We are planning on Lord of the Rings Online later on
VardaValar1: Do you think you might check it out?
VardaValar1: It has to come out first, of course : )
VardaValar1: So do you have an URL for Eve?
Orodreth V: www.eve-online.com
VardaValar1: Maybe you can get some company
VardaValar1: Thanks
VardaValar1: I'm pretty hooked on WoW
VardaValar1: We have others hooked on DAoC
VardaValar1: Good thing we have AIM and the Encyc together
VardaValar1: All of these games will eventually fade
VardaValar1: We just move on
Orodreth V: Didn't think I'd end up sticking with it (trial at first) so no Valar name, unfort.
Orodreth V: Debes Sparre
VardaValar1: okies
VardaValar1: I'll bet you can make an alt : )
Orodreth V: I could, but I have like 300k skillpoints invested in this.
VardaValar1: I'll put down that name
VardaValar1: k
Orodreth V: 18 days of training. :-)
VardaValar1: Seems like we always wind up with alts eventually
Orodreth V: In Eve, skills train while you're offline
VardaValar1: In WoW, it helps storage by mailing to your other self
Orodreth V: Hangar Containers FTW (Eve)
VardaValar1: WoW has a nice Logout deal that lets you accumulate time so your hits are higher next gaming
VardaValar1: Is Eve less expensive?
Orodreth V: I have 4 right now..one for future ship equipment, one for all the loot junk that I save to sell en masse to manufacturing types for them to melt down,
Orodreth V: one for accesories like dogtags/skillbooks/snowballs, and one that's currently empty
Orodreth V: Eve is 15/mo if you pay monthly
Orodreth V: less if youpay by 6/mo or yearly, but I only have enough to pay by the month for now
VardaValar1: about same as WoW
VardaValar1: 12.99 a month for 6 months, so about $77
VardaValar1: Sounds comparable
Orodreth V: But eve is so much better.
Orodreth V: No levels. :-)
VardaValar1: Guess the MMORPG's feel the competition : )
Orodreth V: Plus the economy isn't all borked.
FINARFIN010 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Play where you are happy : )
FINARFIN010: Happy new year
VardaValar1: Hey there Finarfin!
VardaValar1: Happy 2006!
Orodreth V: I can send someone a trial if they want..not sure how many trials I can send out though
FINARFIN010: thank you Varda
Orodreth V: 14 day thing
FINARFIN010: trial of what Orodreth
VardaValar1: Eve - another MMORPG
VardaValar1: He's not going to WoW
FINARFIN010: another one. *phew*
FINARFIN010: i am hooked again on Guild wars
VardaValar1: Again? : )
VardaValar1: I know some others like it
FINARFIN010: hehe
VardaValar1: If people can just use their guild names, they can find each other : )
VardaValar1: I know you do
FINARFIN010: i went back to diablo for a bit and am now playing guild wasrs again
VardaValar1: Good to have more than one game
VardaValar1: Keeps it from going stale
FINARFIN010: yeah
Orodreth V: Yea, had I know I was gonna stay with this, I woulda used guild..alas..
VardaValar1: You still could before you go any deeper : )
FINARFIN010: i use my name in guild wars
Orodreth V: I'm not wasting 300k of skillpoints. :p
VardaValar1: on an alt
Orodreth V: Granted that some people have 25 million...
Orodreth V: But :p
GwaihirValar has left the room.
Orodreth V: Oh, my race in Minmatar, becasue we're cool. Amarr and Caldari FTL, Minmatar and Gallente FTW. >.>
FINARFIN010: well i just got home and need to get something to eat... but i thought i would just drop by and say hi to all. but i must hie my self to my larder and see what i can do to empty it a bit more. :-)
FINARFIN010: Namaire all
VardaValar1: I still have Diablo multi, and play some BW single
Orodreth V: Namarie
VardaValar1: Bye!
FINARFIN010 has left the room.
VardaValar1: Thanks for coming!
Orodreth V: Anyways, back to setting up bookmarks for my friend's hoarder...only 3 hours and I can use my rifter again. :-)
VardaValar1: The jargon is very different
VardaValar1: I don't get much of it
Orodreth V: (Was training the skills to use some tech II mods..losing 25 million in three days was uncool)
Orodreth V: Heh, yea.
VardaValar1: ouch
VardaValar1: See you later! I'm finally through the queue!
Orodreth V: It's easy to pikc up though, makes a ton of sence once you start playing.
VardaValar1: Happy hunting
VardaValar1: I"m sure
VardaValar1: Just hard in this chat
Orodreth V: Always does, I suppose.
VardaValar1: WoW is surely just as irksome to others : )
VardaValar1: Namarie!
Orodreth V (22:31:39): Suffice to say I've been training for two days to use better equipment. :-)
(22:31:42) VardaValar1 has left the room.
