ArPharazonV: got my rejuvenation book, a catring, we did Ossirian in one try, and we managed to kill Moam even after he exploded
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Oessala has entered the room.
Star of Phaet has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Hail : )
Star of Phaet: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: heya
VardaValar1: Hi to Pharazon, Arwen, Eonwe, Fladrif, Menelvagor,
VardaValar1: Orodreth in two versions, and Gilraen. :-)
VardaValar1: Please whisper Tolkien topics as they pop into your head during the meeting, as the current one may only last a line or two of discussion. : )
Menelvagor Valar: have to finish my CS game (godlike)
VardaValar1: I was a tad late, trying to put a new picture up on the site, not quite done
Basketballmatt2 has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: There we go :}
VardaValar1: Hail :-)
ArPharazonV: who? what?
Basketballmatt2: thank you
Basketballmatt2: hello
Eonwe Valar: Welcome to our meeting :}
VardaValar1: We are just about to start : )
Eonwe Valar: Basketballmatt is interested in joining, so I invited him to come to our meeting :}

Basketballmatt2: hello
VardaValar1: Eonwe can chat with you in a side window to help you through your first meeting, and we'll start. : )
top

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
Basketballmatt2: ok
VardaValar1: Membership report:
VardaValar1: Greetings from Elwing, currently away at a baby shower for a friend.
VardaValar1: and Fangorn, greeting us from WoW
Menelvagor Valar: Greetz!
VardaValar1: and Sauron, just back from an anime/D&D convention
VardaValar1: Eowyn in the middle of homework,
VardaValar1: and Bilbo nearby : )
Star of Phaet: Gwaihir is sleeping, but should be up in time to attend some of the later meeting
Star of Phaet: as usual
VardaValar1: That would be great : )
ArPharazonV: hehe
VardaValar1: We have a potential Tolkien-only member now considering which dwarf to write about.
ArPharazonV: Dis!
VardaValar1: He asks if the members have a preference, so I'll ask for him. : )
VardaValar1: Dis, hehe, ok, will pass that along.
VardaValar1: The only female name we know. : )
ArPharazonV: should be able to fit a lot of female dwarf information in there ;-)
VardaValar1: True, could be a better article than it could be at first glance.
VardaValar1: And you know that Basketballmatt2 is here, interested in joining as a Full Member.
VardaValar1: We all wish him luck!
VardaValar1: Any other member news?
Basketballmatt2: thank you
ArPharazonV: well, a bit
VardaValar1: I think Finwe is stuck at a different store without internet, so he's been missing
VardaValar1: Phar, go ahead. : )
ArPharazonV: yesterday we had too few people for a WoW-raid, and invited a random elf hunter called... Eressea
VardaValar1: : )
ArPharazonV: I ended up with her in the party, and we talked a bit of Tolkien, she seems to be a fan
ArPharazonV: so I pointed her through to the Valarguild, the website
ArPharazonV: she'd think about it
ArPharazonV: not sure if you've heard from her yet? unlikely, but possible
ArPharazonV: well, haven't spoken to her since the raid, so that's the end of that bit of news
VardaValar1: Only if that's the Tolkien-only member asking about doing the dwarf article, but no mention of you folks, so probably not.
VardaValar1: Might look her up again and ask if she prefers articles, stories, poems, art, humor, etc : )
ArPharazonV: indeed, I'll see if I can find her again
VardaValar1: More member news, from Menel : )
VardaValar1: He's on Spring Break
VardaValar1: So he can stay with us today : )
Menelvagor Valar: So should Pharzie be :-)
VardaValar1: And Fladrif?
Menelvagor Valar: same thing.
Eonwe Valar: Heh, my semester's almost over you you guys are just now getting Spring break? :}
VardaValar1: Now if we could drag in Aragorn and Valandil from Europe too, we'd be all set. : )
ArPharazonV: Fladrif's back in WoW!
VardaValar1: Ahh, good news!
Menelvagor Valar: only 6 weeks of this semester to go after the break.
VardaValar1: Thanks Phar
Menelvagor Valar: (excluding tests)
ArPharazonV: finally found his gamecard, and he's with us again! dualscreening as we speak, I think ;-)
ArPharazonV: well, found a gamecard that wasn't sold out, I mean
VardaValar1: That would help. : )
Arwen V1: =)
VardaValar1: Onwards
VardaValar1: Web Report:
Menelvagor Valar: I have a bit of membernews yet :-)
VardaValar1: ahh, go ahead!
Menelvagor Valar: Next week (after next meeting that is) I will be in London for a week :-)
VardaValar1: Will you get to tourist around a bit?
Menelvagor Valar: So anyone who is in that vicinity, feel free to message me for a meeting.
Menelvagor Valar: just a bit.
Menelvagor Valar: school and fun combined.
VardaValar1: Gilraen? Eru?
VardaValar1: Check out Members Page for countries too : )
Menelvagor Valar: aye.
Menelvagor Valar: Going to England in september too.
VardaValar1: Star of Phaet is Gilraen, but you knew that, I think
Menelvagor Valar: she's the only one talking about Gwaihir still sleeping *grin*
VardaValar1: Good point!
Star of Phaet: I do tend to give it away : )
Menelvagor Valar: Well, of course, it's a school excursion, meaning that we have made our own excursion plans, with plenty of room for, shall we say dilly-dallying.
VardaValar1: Or high-falutin' Tolkien chat ; )
Menelvagor Valar: We arrive on monday, wednesday is gone, we're in cambridge then.
Menelvagor Valar: and friday we go back early.
Star of Phaet: cambridge is pretty
Menelvagor Valar: probably... we're visiting a secondary school there to follow a couple lessons and see how it's done there.
Menelvagor Valar: Might also be oxford, not entirely sure lol.
Star of Phaet: cool
Menelvagor Valar: anyways, tuesday and thursday are pretty open.
VardaValar1: Oh, check the Tolkien-only page countries too
Menelvagor Valar: will do.
Menelvagor Valar: done :-)
VardaValar1: Texas will be having a lot of Valar hanging out together soon, especially when Arwen arrives in May : )
Menelvagor Valar: Sorry, keep forgetting you're not clairvoyant Varda *smile*
Arwen V1: hehe
VardaValar1: I listen - not into clairvoyance. ;-)
VardaValar1: much...
VardaValar1: *Keep them guessing*

VardaValar1: Web Report:
VardaValar1: Tolkien site:
VardaValar1: New art by Turgon-(V)
VardaValar1: http://www.valar.game-host.org/varda/gallery/TurgonV/caveTurgonV.htm
VardaValar1: New are two silmarils
VardaValar1: and I was trying to put up one of Ringil when the meeting came up. : )
VardaValar1: That should be up for you today.
VardaValar1: Fingolfin's sword, as most of you know.
VardaValar1: We have a new story up by Cassia and Siobhan
VardaValar1: "Return", sequel to "Exile".
VardaValar1: I'm in chapter 3 of the next story after "Return" on the formatting, editinng, so that should be up soon.
VardaValar1: Any other web news from our fellow webmasters?
VardaValar1: School ate all your time, the dog ate the pixels?
top

VardaValar1: Gaming News:
VardaValar1: First, did anyone play a game that was not World of WarCraft? : )
Eonwe Valar: I played The Hobbit and beat it this week :}
VardaValar1: How was it?
ArPharazonV: Empire Earth! 2 scenarios...
VardaValar1: Go Phar : )
ArPharazonV: damn, they were tough.... protecting Athens during the siege from Sparta
VardaValar1: Would you recommend the Hobbit to this bunch of Tolkien nuts?
VardaValar1: Language, Phar ; )
ArPharazonV: ehrr... right
ArPharazonV: *darn, they were tough
Eonwe Valar: It's not perfectly true lore of course, but it stays within the realm decently most of the time. And it's fun and challenging :}
ArPharazonV: just see it as a typo!
VardaValar1: So it's good, but you beat it in a week?
VardaValar1: Typo, sure 'nuff.
Eonwe Valar: No, I've been working on that game since before Christmas :}
VardaValar1: Sounds much better, Eonwe!
Eonwe Valar: If I had the time to beat a game in a week, I'd probably have my 300 gold for my mount by now :}
VardaValar1: So will you be putting a review on your Games page?
VardaValar1: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Aye, I've been considering it
Eonwe Valar: With the new format at the latest I think.
VardaValar1: It is right up our alley, so we would be interested in reading it. : )
VardaValar1: Scribble one on notebook paper for later, while it's still fresh? : )
Eonwe Valar: That's an idea :}
VardaValar1: Empire Earth, from Phar. Any comments?
ArPharazonV: ehr... nice RTS, basically unlimited resource nodes are a nice twist
VardaValar1: Athens is hard to protect from Sparta...
VardaValar1: You recommend we put shekels towards it? : )
ArPharazonV: lots of technologies, and 22 ages to progress through, compared to 4 in Age of Empires for example
ArPharazonV: sure, if you have money to spare and would like to get a new RTS, it's quite old, so should be relatively cheap
Menelvagor Valar: I had a copy some time ago.
ArPharazonV: I also have the expansion, and am considering to buy the sequel
Menelvagor Valar: it's cool, but gets boring after a while... same for Age of ..... (<- fill in name).
ArPharazonV: Wonders? Empires?
Menelvagor Valar: Empires.
Menelvagor Valar: Wonders never gets boring.
ArPharazonV: also, more future game-news:
VardaValar1: Go for it.
ArPharazonV: it's my birthday next Saturday, and I'm gonna get myself Oblivion!
VardaValar1: Congratulations. : )
Menelvagor Valar: (Empire Earth is especially boring when you have a fleet of aircraft carriers bombard a bunch of bowmen :-D)
Star of Phaet: lol
VardaValar1: How old, Pharazon?
ArPharazonV: haha, Menel... aye, you need to keep up a little with the ages to stand a chance
Menelvagor Valar: 22?
ArPharazonV: or 21?
ArPharazonV: or am I confused with 10?
VardaValar1: The bowmen find it interesting for ten seconds at least. : )
ArPharazonV: or another game?
ArPharazonV: wait wait
ArPharazonV: ehhr.. 14
ArPharazonV: lol
ArPharazonV: how weird
Menelvagor Valar: talking about your age Pharzie :-D
Eonwe Valar: The game is Guess Phar's Age :}
ArPharazonV: I'm getting 21!
VardaValar1: Pharazon, which birthday is it for you? The Age of Pharazon.
Star of Phaet: 2961 ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: the average of all mentioned ages means Phar is getting 15
VardaValar1: heh
ArPharazonV: 21 times around the sun! quite an accomplishment
Menelvagor Valar: (mentioned by himself)
VardaValar1: Congratulations! Say hi to Arien for us. : )
ArPharazonV: hehe
VardaValar1: So Phar, you have a WoW report for Europe?
ArPharazonV: anyway, you gotta keep up in EE... 50 clubmen against a few cybers isn't looking good ;-)
VardaValar1: Not too. : )
Menelvagor Valar: If I wasn't made by Varda, I'd be a couple trazillion years.
VardaValar1: Even if you were...
Menelvagor Valar: Pharz, it's me with the carriers.
ArPharazonV: ahh... WoW... we did our usual raids, I guess, learned some new tactics...
Menelvagor Valar: I didn't even bother to advance to cybers anymore
ArPharazonV: got Fladrif back in the game!
VardaValar1: Yay!
ArPharazonV: I farmed 250 twilight texts and 100g in a few afternoons...
Menelvagor Valar: <- Still WoW-less :'(
VardaValar1: Fladrif would bow, but it's tough when you're an ent.
ArPharazonV: in time, I'll be both exalted with the Cenarion Circle, and riding my epic ram!
ArPharazonV: oh,and I re-specced
Menelvagor Valar: I believe Fladrif did pretty good at that in LotR :-)
ArPharazonV: not out of feral, but within feral
ArPharazonV: it's the first actual respeccing I've ever done
Menelvagor Valar: psht.
Menelvagor Valar: Druids are meant to be healers.
ArPharazonV: just 1g! it gets more expensive future times...
VardaValar1: Could just call a priest? : )
ArPharazonV: I tossed away improved mark for Omen of Clarity, Menel ;-)
ArPharazonV: I'm less healy than ever!
Menelvagor Valar: wouldn't surprise me if I called a shadow priest :-P
ArPharazonV: hehe
VardaValar1: Oops. : )
Menelvagor Valar: and a retribution paladin to boot.
ArPharazonV: :-)
Menelvagor Valar: and to top matters off, a fire specced mage in a fire immune area.
ArPharazonV: yup, my plans too... retri pally, feral druid, shadow priest...
ArPharazonV: and aye, Caldaera will be a fire mage!
Menelvagor Valar: still, fire owns, even in MC, bit harder, bit more mana consuming, and not against the flames and geddon, but still owns.
ArPharazonV: isn't Ragnaros immune? seems a bit odd
LaurealasseHelka has entered the room.
Ugluk of Old has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: haven't tried fire on him yet :-)
[Link to the report for WoW Lothar. Apologies for not calling on Eonwe.]
VardaValar1: Aiya Laure, almost time for Tolkien chat
VardaValar1: Aiya Ugluk : )
Ugluk of Old: Hail to all!
Menelvagor Valar: wouldn't recommend it though.
LaurealasseHelka: Hail, and ok.
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya.
Star of Phaet: Aiya
ArPharazonV: meh, talents are not that important
ArPharazonV: you can still do a good bit of healing as feral, and the other way around
ArPharazonV: guess same would go for fire mages and frost mages
Menelvagor Valar: maybe something to mail bliz about...
ArPharazonV: it's not like you can't cast any ice-spells as a fire mage
Menelvagor Valar: extend Auras to raid groups.
VardaValar1: We are about to change over to Tolkien chat.
VardaValar1: Eonwe and I need to go work on a test, but
Menelvagor Valar: true, but the ice damage is just about 1.5 times as high with a frost spec.
ArPharazonV: just need the right gear, and you'll be allright, no matter your spec
VardaValar1: Menelvagor has a topic and could run it perhaps?
ArPharazonV: won't be the top damager, but still...
VardaValar1: *poke*
Menelvagor Valar: Sure.
ArPharazonV: sure, I'll leave the floor to Menel :-)
top

Menelvagor Valar: *bellows* Tolkien Chat!
VardaValar1: Thanks, Menel. We'll still watch and try to put in a word here and there. : )
Menelvagor Valar: Oops, I still need to learn when I talk loudly as a bunch of stars, the universe kinda rumbles *grin*
VardaValar1: *puts other stars back in order, like a picture hanger*
Menelvagor Valar: At any rate
Menelvagor Valar: Tolkien Chat:
Menelvagor Valar: Today, I have a topic, it's about a school assignment of mine.
Menelvagor Valar: I need some extra info on Tolkien's life.
Menelvagor Valar: (oh yes, feel free to message me any other topics)
Menelvagor Valar: hmmzz... silence.
Menelvagor Valar: guess I'll just start with what I do know.
Menelvagor Valar: I know he was born in Transvaal, Orange Free State, South Africa.
VardaValar1: I messaged. : )
Menelvagor Valar: He had a love of nature and languages even at an early age.
Menelvagor Valar: He attended Oxford University and after a brief break, in which he helped out with the English Dictionary, he returned to Oxford as a professor Anglo-Saxon language.
Menelvagor Valar: and that's just about it.
Menelvagor Valar: anyone know more?
VardaValar1: Have you looked into the library?
Basketballmatt2: try wikipedia
Eonwe Valar: Afraid I haven't read a biography on him yet :}
Menelvagor Valar: I wikipediad already 8-)
VardaValar1: There was a Discovery Channel program on him, might be available
ArPharazonV: not really... never been very informed of his life... perhaps you should watch some documentaries on the EE versions of lotr? they have some Tolkien info
Menelvagor Valar: feel free to provide me with some links Pharzie.
ArPharazonV: links?
ArPharazonV: I can't link a dvd ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: well, you say EE, which I presume is Internet Exploder.
Eonwe Valar: EE = Extended Edition :}
Menelvagor Valar: errr. Explorer.
Menelvagor Valar: aha :-)
Eonwe Valar: IE is Internet Explorer :}
ArPharazonV: *nods at Eonwe*
Menelvagor Valar: might get my hands on that one.
VardaValar1: That's true, quite a bit there
VardaValar1: You...don't have it? ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Each of those has about 4 discs, only 2 with the movies on them :}
Menelvagor Valar: I have to pay for school myself, I'm a bit strapped for cash.
Menelvagor Valar: At least that's lots of sources to search.
Menelvagor Valar: thanks a bunch.
Menelvagor Valar: Next topic is from Varda.
VardaValar1: Borrow. ; )
Menelvagor Valar: what were the Rangers doing while the High Kings were Chieftains?
Menelvagor Valar: The Rangers being the remnant of the faithful of Numenor.
VardaValar1: I already know what I think but would like to hear guild's speculations.
Eonwe Valar: Keeping the peace in Arnor :}
ArPharazonV: looking after the remaining denizens of Arnor, including the Shire and Bree, just as they did during Lotr
VardaValar1: What threatened the peace, that they had to handle?
Menelvagor Valar: The quote from Varda is "But when dark things come from the houseless hills, they fly from us."
VardaValar1: Who would their allies be, if any?
ArPharazonV: the Elves of Rivendell, no doubt
Eonwe Valar: Elves
Eonwe Valar: of Lindon as well Perhaps
Eonwe Valar: Those staying in Middle-Earth for a while at least.
Menelvagor Valar: How about the people of Bree, though it be a one-sided and rather unknown alliance? :-)
Eonwe Valar: not much of an alliance then :}
ArPharazonV: as for threatening the piece... wraiths? wolves? bandits?
VardaValar1: The Bree folk were useful in having an inn the Rangers could go to.
VardaValar1: Barrow-wights?
VardaValar1: Old Man Willow's lot?
ArPharazonV: aye, that's why I added the wraiths
VardaValar1: Orcs, for sure
VardaValar1: Trolls?
ArPharazonV: as well as some remaining forces from Angmar
VardaValar1: "dark things from the houseless hills"
LaurealasseHelka: Angmar? When are we talking about here?
Menelvagor Valar: 3rd age.
ArPharazonV: after Angmar's already gone, of course
VardaValar1: left-overs : )
Menelvagor Valar: But Angmar still is a place of evil.
ArPharazonV: but there may be still be dark things hiding in the neighbourhood, left-overs indeed
LaurealasseHelka: Yes, but.. That was 1st age, right?
Menelvagor Valar: much like Dol Guldur after the Last Alliance.
Eonwe Valar: Angmar fell in the Third Age.
ArPharazonV: you're confused with Angband
LaurealasseHelka: AH.
LaurealasseHelka: Ok.
Eonwe Valar: It was ruled by the Witch King as a means to destroy the North Kingdom.
Menelvagor Valar: and of course, there's Mount what'sit'sname north of there, capitol of the Orcs.
Eonwe Valar: The former realm of Angband is now called the Northern Wastes in the Third Age.
Menelvagor Valar: and supposedly, there are giants a hundred miles or so north of Rivendell.
Eonwe Valar: Believed to be the home of dragons.
Basketballmatt2: Withered Heath
Menelvagor Valar: let's see if I can find that particular passage.
Eonwe Valar: Withered Heath is the place north of Rivendell with the Giants?
Basketballmatt2: no, it is the place north of the grey mts.
Basketballmatt2: i believe that is the place that smog came from
Eonwe Valar: Ah, yes
Eonwe Valar: correct indeed :}
ArPharazonV: Smog? ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: Mt. Gundabad is the Orc Capitol.
Eonwe Valar: Smaug :} We don't count off for spelling though :}
Basketballmatt2: oops
Menelvagor Valar: The Withered Heath starts somewhere in the Erid Wethrin (Grey Mountains, indeed) and is directly north of Erebor.
Menelvagor Valar: the Northernmost reaches of (known) Middle Earth is Forodwaith.
Menelvagor Valar: I believe it is a very cold and inhospitable land, even worse than the Withered Heath.
Menelvagor Valar: But just so you know, the Withered Heath is not north of the Grey Mountains, but in between 2 branches of them.
VardaValar1: Originally, Angmar was on both sides of the Hithaeglir.
ArPharazonV: = Misty Mountains, for those not knowing the Elvish names ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: it wouldn't surprise me, with Gundabad right on the northern edge of the Misty Mountains, next to Angmar.
ArPharazonV: it was, was it? interesting for the rp...
Menelvagor Valar: I've got an old map here on my lap :-)
Menelvagor Valar: dutch though, so scanning it is not an option.
Eonwe Valar: The Withered Heath, according to my Atlas, is sort of a valley in between a pincer made by the Ered Mithrin.
ArPharazonV: some of us understand Dutch!
Menelvagor Valar: exactly as I said, Eonwe :-)
Eonwe Valar: Sorry, missed that :}
Menelvagor Valar: http://www.geocities.com/feanor_vg/Images/me_map.jpg
VardaValar1: New version of map by TJ-(TV), a Tolkien-only member is up, version 7, in English:
VardaValar1: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/hugo1900/MAP-OF-MIDDLE-EARTH-VERSION-7.html
Menelvagor Valar: nice!
VardaValar1: TJ is a busy guy : )
Eonwe Valar: I take it that's him in the picture? :}
VardaValar1: Yes : )
VardaValar1: Withered Heath is marked on this map
VardaValar1: North of the Lonely Mt. (Erebor)
VardaValar1: So aye, we could have an interesting time fitting it into our rp. : )
ArPharazonV: wasn't the Ettenmoors where the giants used to live?
Eonwe Valar: I was just thinking that Varda :}
Basketballmatt2: yes
ArPharazonV: oh, that sounds cool indeed
ArPharazonV: we would have to contend with dragons then, though?
Eonwe Valar: Well, that depends. We can give it some though :}
Eonwe Valar: thought even :}
Menelvagor Valar: ah, found the passage on the Etten-Moors.
VardaValar1: Ettenmoors is also called the Troll-fells.
Menelvagor Valar: aye.
ArPharazonV: quoth, Menel!
VardaValar1: Maybe some beings dependent on dragons?
Menelvagor Valar: not giants, but trolls.
Menelvagor Valar: well, the passage only tells about where the Mitheithel flows from (River Hoarwell, Greyflood way down south)
Menelvagor Valar: but it also tells of that the Trolls used to live there when Angmar was still there, but all Trolls living there where destroyed when Angmar fell.
ArPharazonV: ahh, all the Trolls destroyed, eh? the 3 Bilbo ran into must have moved from there before the fall
Menelvagor Valar: most likely.
VardaValar1: They had moved and taken up banditry on their own, rather like orcs wished they could.
Menelvagor Valar: besides, it is likely that some escaped the destruction and fled into the mountains.
Menelvagor Valar: but back to the rangers :-)
Menelvagor Valar: Is there something else they did except keeping the peace?
VardaValar1: Orcs would have been something the rangers would have to deal with
Eonwe Valar: It seems they had plenty to do with all these badguys around in the North.
ArPharazonV: drink ale!
Menelvagor Valar: (and having alliances with the Elves of Rivendell and the Grey Havens)
VardaValar1: The rangers would have to make a living, have camps or villages for their families.
ArPharazonV: probably lived on hunting
Menelvagor Valar: Well, we know of Aragorn traveling a lot and far.
VardaValar1: They had to have clothes, food, weapons.
ArPharazonV: or plundering orc parties
Menelvagor Valar: is it possible that more of the Rangers journeyed south and east?
Eonwe Valar: Who'd want to eat orc food?
Menelvagor Valar: scouts perhaps?
Eonwe Valar: or wear orc clothes?
ArPharazonV: well, Aragorn fought in the South
VardaValar1: The Rangers would consider the North to be their home area.
Menelvagor Valar: more like destroying Orc parties Pharzie :-)
VardaValar1: They had loyalty to the Chieftains.
Eonwe Valar: There would have to be enough rangers to keep the entire northern kingdom safe I would think.
VardaValar1: Fangorn is right, mentions stashes of firewood at various locations.
VardaValar1: I remember Weathertop as one
Eonwe Valar: Likely safe houses all over the place owned by "normal" folk.
Menelvagor Valar: aye, weathertop is one.
ArPharazonV: for the Rangers to keep up a considerable breeding pool for all those years would also take a reasonably large people hiding in the woods
VardaValar1: Gilraen, didn't she go to a ranger camp?
Menelvagor Valar: or small huts or shelters at convenient locations.
VardaValar1: Shortly before she died, left Rivendell? Not sure.
Eonwe Valar: Time to pull out the RotK I just put back on the shelf, heh.
VardaValar1: I would guess they had small permanent camps too, rather like the southern rangers had Henneth Annun
ArPharazonV: indeed, I do recall her moving to be with her people in her last years
ArPharazonV: but she's here! Can't we ask her? ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: Perhaps at Formenost?
VardaValar1: Hey, Gilraen! Do you know?
Menelvagor Valar: correction, Fornost.
VardaValar1: I'll try to look it up too. : )
Menelvagor Valar: Lake Evendim as well probably.
Eonwe Valar: The Dunedain apparently had folk in Eriador.
Star of Phaet has left the room.
LaurealasseHelka: Brb
Star of Phaet has entered the room.
VardaValar1: She went back to her family home, somewhere in Eriador, so must have had one.
VardaValar1: Still digging.
Eonwe Valar: Aye, that's where I found it.
Eonwe Valar: Appendices in the Tale of Arwen and Aragorn.
VardaValar1: too bad FotR doesn't have it's own index too. Have to look in RotK
VardaValar1: Now if the appendix were only covered by the index... : )
VardaValar1: better, I mean. Has some entries.
Ugluk of Old: (wandering star) dunadan of the north, daughter of Dirhael. In 2929 she married Arathorn II and in 2931 theie only child, Aragorn was born. Gilraen lived in Rivendell from the death of her husband in 2933 until 2954, when she
Ugluk of Old: returned to her family home somewhere in Eriador
VardaValar1: That sounds like "'c
Eonwe Valar: Guess that's the best we're going to get.
Ugluk of Old: She was called Gilraen the Fair.
VardaValar1: Complete Guide to Middle-earth" : )
Ugluk of Old: right
VardaValar1: Thanks
VardaValar1: Appendix B timeline has a little more to add to that
Eonwe Valar: So there's nothing to go on for where her home is, but we know that whereever that is, there's a settlement of Dunedain in the North :}
VardaValar1: She was born 2907
VardaValar1: Agrees on those other dates
Basketballmatt2: she also died in the spring of 3007
VardaValar1: Aye, good spotting
Basketballmatt2: oops...before spring
Basketballmatt2: so...winter
Ugluk of Old: sorry to quote directly...and slow things down :-)
VardaValar1: We like such quotes, thanks for doing it
VardaValar1: We quote rather often : )
VardaValar1: It doesn't say spring or winter in the timeline, so you're getting it elsewhere
VardaValar1: 3007 Death of Gilraen.
VardaValar1: We could use a more in-depth article on Gilraen, folks. : )
VardaValar1: This should give it a start.
Basketballmatt2 has left the room.
VardaValar1: Please remember to check all facts against the actual books.
top

After-meeting:
VardaValar1: Our friend just left to go to a test room. : )
VardaValar1: Wish him luck!
Ugluk of Old: yes good luck :}
Basketballmatt2 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Please remember to check all facts against the actual books.
VardaValar1: You having trouble with the two rooms at once thing?
VardaValar1: Did you crash from the other room?
Basketballmatt2: me?
Basketballmatt2: idk
VardaValar1: Yes, you : )
VardaValar1: Eonwe and I are in both at once.
Basketballmatt2: idk, i see all of the names
Basketballmatt2 has left the room.
VardaValar1: Seems he is having a problem being both places at once.
VardaValar1: So who would like to volunteer to do an article on Gilraen?
VardaValar1: Gilraen-(V), how about you? : )
VardaValar1: Menelvagor, you there?
VardaValar1: I have to pay a little more attention to the test. : )
VardaValar1: You may be the one declaring After-meeting, Menel.
LaurealasseHelka: Back.
LaurealasseHelka: Well.. Off to IM land, IM me if you want to.
LaurealasseHelka has left the room.
VardaValar1: Menelvagor, oh moderator. Have you left?
Ugluk of Old has left the room.
VardaValar1: Did I crash?
ArPharazonV: you did not crash
Ugluk of Old has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Back. Thanks Phar.
ArPharazonV: sorry, browsing a bit, it seems Fladrif has a quest-problem, looking for precendents :-)
VardaValar1: Whole place went quiet.
VardaValar1: Comes from asking for an article volunteer. ; )
VardaValar1: I'd better not do that again!
VardaValar1: I think we'd better declare After-meeting. Menelvagor seems afk too.
VardaValar1: Free chat about anything, keeping it clean and flame-free. : )
VardaValar1: Good time to ask for fellow gamers.
ArPharazonV: oh, btw, I posted in the rp again, my last Calaron-post before the attack which should come at the end of the current day
VardaValar1: Aye. I was wondering if you wanted me to dig up a brother?
ArPharazonV: well, I figure the messenger will go to Thranduil's halls, and after that the order to reinforce the outpost will be given to your brother's company
ArPharazonV: not sure how that works.... will he arrive there first, or will a messenger be sent to meet them on the way?
ArPharazonV: in any case, that's in the hands of your brother now.. all I know is that he should arrive when the battle's over
VardaValar1: I was hoping I would not have to run my brother's character.
VardaValar1: ok, aftermath horror.
ArPharazonV: haha
ArPharazonV: well, you don't even have to now, can postpone it until where he sees the outpost and reflects on the message later
ArPharazonV: in which case you don't have to dig him up for another whole day
Ugluk of Old: Namarie!
VardaValar1: Namarie!
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
Ugluk of Old has left the room.
Oessala: While I'm doing it..anyone else want a 14-day trial for eve?
VardaValar1: How? : )
Oessala: I email you an invite
VardaValar1: ah, ok. Readers, be sure to email Orodreth for your invitation. : )
Oessala: you sign up a (free) account, enter the cd-key from the mail in the account-payment thingy, download the game and then I initiate you into the ranks of wealth redistributors. :-)
VardaValar1: So we have to be burglars to go with you? : )
ArPharazonV: along WoW, EE, and Oblivion coming up, I don't think I'll have much time to spend on an eve-trial... maybe another day?
VardaValar1: *hoping for LotRO*
ArPharazonV: hoping for it yourself, or that we'll play it too? ;-)
VardaValar1: Both
VardaValar1: I will have to expect only myself, and start a fresh branch there.
VardaValar1: Valar can join from the main guild at will.
VardaValar1: Maybe on a free month try out. : )
FladrifV: tried eve not a succes :-)
VardaValar1: What happened, Fladrif?
FladrifV: oh im sorry for the people who like it but I hated the long flying times
FladrifV: I prefer ogame
ArPharazonV: heh... how's ogame going for you?
FladrifV: same idea less time consuming
VardaValar1: Sounds suspicously like WoW - flying times.
FladrifV: eve is space trade morpg
FladrifV: and I disliiked only bing in space
ArPharazonV: meh, wow's not that bad... only 15 minutes from Moonglade to Silithus!
FladrifV: I like the new patch
VardaValar1: Time to wash dishes, carry out trash, ; )
FladrifV: finaly coffee time
VardaValar1: Drive to Starbucks.
VardaValar1: (I make my own, but hey, there's time!)
FladrifV: previous you had to come back every 3 min to start next flight
ArPharazonV: hehe... yup, the final destination flightpoint system is pretty good
ArPharazonV: did you fly from Winterspring to Azshara yet? great view
Star of Phaet: only problem is
ArPharazonV: over huge cliffs
Star of Phaet: you fly from theramore to darnassus, you have to wait til you get all the way there to take the flight back to get your tailor training
Star of Phaet: >.<
ArPharazonV: heh, not sure about that.... but wouldn't it be faster to go by boat?
VardaValar1: I'd rather boat from Auberdine, to Menethil, to Theramore. and back
ArPharazonV: exactly
VardaValar1: Bad enough trying to fly from Astranaar to Stonetalon
ArPharazonV: though there's a boat-problem now... people tend to crash a lot when arriving at Theramore by boat
Star of Phaet: was meeting a friend in darnassus
Star of Phaet: but forgot to pick up my second set of training in theramore... I got one, then got a skillup and forgot to get the next
VardaValar1: ow
ArPharazonV: yesterday we went with the entire raid from Ironforge to Theramore to take a shot at Onyxia, half the raid was on one boat
ArPharazonV: at least a half a dozen people, including me, crashed when we got there
ArPharazonV: when we came back online, we were back at menethil! *sigh*
ArPharazonV: dang boat
VardaValar1: I haven't had a boat problem there yet. Not yesterday, at any rate.
VardaValar1: ohh, take that back
VardaValar1: Getting on and off the boat at Theramore dock
Star of Phaet: problem with the boats is, I have to stay by the comp to get on and off the boat ;-)
ArPharazonV: getting off the boat, aye
VardaValar1: I sent a feedback about it
ArPharazonV: sometimes you don't even get actually off the boat before crashing, and then it's just a question where you'll end up when you log back in
ArPharazonV: and if you're unlucky... you end up back at Menethil :-)
VardaValar1: Getting off the boat, came back just as the boat returned to the dock, and no problem.
FladrifV: I solved the boad problem different ;-)
ArPharazonV: aye, I may also have found a different solution... I now jump off the boat before we land at the dock, and swim to shore instead
FladrifV: moonglade teleport :-)
VardaValar1: Crashed just before getting off the boat. Showed up again seconds before arriving.
ArPharazonV: that's lucky, Varda... unless you crash again ;-)
VardaValar1: I lucked out, didn't crash.
VardaValar1: Moonglade teleport, that's an idea. for my druid at least.
ArPharazonV: yeah, but Moonglade is so far away when you're heading for Onyxia, Gadgetzan, or Silithus...
VardaValar1: We were talking the Theramore/Rutheraan village run though.
ArPharazonV: ahh, right
ArPharazonV: indeed, if you want to get to northern kalimdor really fast, teleport is undoubtedly the fastest way
ArPharazonV: which makes my glad my main's a druid!
FladrifV: wow is getting more buggy you have new mail...nothing in mail box
ArPharazonV: *me
ArPharazonV: yeah, try a few minutes later, Flad
VardaValar1: Mine's a hunter, second's a priest.
VardaValar1: Third's a druid, luckily, with mage the fourth.
FladrifV: after relog I have no mail at all anymore...
ArPharazonV: mage is also nice, teleporting to the capitals
ArPharazonV: that's odd, Flad!
FladrifV: main hunter seccond priest
FladrifV: 3th druid
ArPharazonV: how's Skjold anyway?
VardaValar1: 3th, gotta love that
ArPharazonV: haha
FladrifV: *in riddles*
FladrifV: skjold is on his way to 40
FladrifV: then he will be finaly a true darksid epriest
ArPharazonV: hehe
ArPharazonV: I should level up Caligonn then... perhaps you can give him some pointers ;-)
ArPharazonV: my own little shadow priest
FladrifV: but I tent to like my druid more then my priest
VardaValar1: I took the challenge of not going Shadow on my priest, except Spirit Tap, 5 in it on the Talent tree. : )
VardaValar1: Druid is a nice solo character.
FladrifV: hunter was fun till 60
FladrifV: and bm change
VardaValar1: You went into Beast Master?
ArPharazonV: if you read my latest biography, you can see that the priest has an actual shadow-demon in his head, whom he suppresses, and gets his shadow-abilities from
FladrifV: totaly and it worked quite good
ArPharazonV: at lvl 60, storywise, he should finally destroy the demon and spec to holy ;-)
VardaValar1: Valtocolindo (Bilbo, Elvish name) has a Beastmaster that is very strong.
VardaValar1: Nice story : )
FladrifV: maybe I respec back my pet is so weak now
ArPharazonV: I've written up stories for all of my characters, at http://www.thehighguard.net/thgbb/viewtopic.php?t=77 if you're interested
FladrifV: but the 15% agi bonus..
VardaValar1: He's gone on Onyxia runs quite well
Menelvagor Valar: back.
Menelvagor Valar: sorry, had to get some unsleep :-P
VardaValar1: Soda? Tea? Coffee? Drop a palantir on your foot?
ArPharazonV: I respecced this week too, as I said.. abandoned Feral Agression, Improved Mark of the Wild and 1 point of Primal Fury to fetch the 11 points for Natural Weapons and Omen of Clarity... should increase my dps by 10%
ArPharazonV: at least
ArPharazonV: but Fladrif is making a Balance-one!
Menelvagor Valar: a couple of CS games :-P:-P
Menelvagor Valar: and as usual, I owned.
ArPharazonV: all we have in the guild so far seems to be feral druids and restoration druids... so having an actual moonkin in our ranks should be fun
Menelvagor Valar: or at least, partly :-)
ArPharazonV: haha
ArPharazonV: Counterstrike?
ArPharazonV: one of our restoration druids is going crazy with his loot...
ArPharazonV: he decided to finish his classsets, then goes around collecting feral gear and balance gear...
ArPharazonV: every other resto druid declares him crazy ;-)
ArPharazonV: because he still remains a resto-druid in talents
ArPharazonV: but hey, it's his dkp, his choice...
FladrifV: sorry im a bit into a rp event atm in wow :-)
ArPharazonV: :-)
ArPharazonV: the Valar on Lothar don't go rp, don't they?
VardaValar1: It's Normal
VardaValar1: We already have Tolkien rp going : )
ArPharazonV: hehe
ArPharazonV: well, we're on an rp server, but it doesn't seem to be abundant in our guild
ArPharazonV: there's some, of course, mostly in a humorous way
VardaValar1: I"ve heard that all over. RP for WoW world is pretty scarce, even in rp.
ArPharazonV: there are some hardcore rp-guilds, but they usually don't last long, or don't go too far into the quite popular endgame, like the raidinstances
ArPharazonV: so they're not too popular
Star of Phaet: I'm off
Star of Phaet: namarie folks
ArPharazonV: namarie
Star of Phaet has left the room.
VardaValar1: bye
FladrifV: druids are build for rp it seems :-)
ArPharazonV: hehe
FladrifV: quite handy all those forms
ArPharazonV: you say that know...
ArPharazonV: wait until you happen to stumble upon a few ferals "cybering" in feral form...
Eonwe Valar: They will go on my ignore list along with the lvl 60 Rogue that kept whispering me "zu ma" and other such intellectual gems.
VardaValar1: hehe
Arwen V1: o.O
Eonwe Valar: Even Orcs can at least put a word together and make it meaningful. Look at "dabu." When an Orc says "dabu" you know exactly what he means.
Eonwe Valar: When a Night Elf Rogue says "zu ma" it's like , "...ok, sure."
ArPharazonV: what? if he says dabu, what does it mean?
VardaValar1: What is zu ma?
ArPharazonV: the only Orcish word I know is "kek" :-)
VardaValar1: lol : )
ArPharazonV: exactly!
Eonwe Valar: Dabu is like says "Yes sir." :}
Eonwe Valar: Dabu is what the orc peon says when you tell him to do something... that and Zugzug.
ArPharazonV: true, true
Eonwe Valar: zu ma doesn't even exist last I checked.
Arwen V1: I love the one where the dwarf gryphon master tells you to "Keep your feet on the ground" right as you take off.
Eonwe Valar: Apparently he think's you're tall enough to manage that :}
VardaValar1: Aye, Arwen : )
Arwen V1: hehe
Arwen V1: well, back to the horrid textbooks =/
VardaValar1: Good news : )
VardaValar1: We have a new Full Member!
Arwen V1: yay!
ArPharazonV: wooh! Under what name?
VardaValar1: Malbeth-(V) : )
ArPharazonV: Malbeth... *starts scouring books*
ArPharazonV: the seer!
Eonwe Valar: Aye :}
ArPharazonV: interesting choice
Arwen V1: is Malbeth a male or female name? =P
ArPharazonV: http://www.barrowdowns.com/malbeththeseer.php go go google...
Eonwe Valar: Male
VardaValar1: Malbeth the Seer was a male.
ArPharazonV: Hold out frogs to entice your enemy. Feign disorder, and at him.
ArPharazonV: right.
Eonwe Valar: Allow me to 1-up you, Phar: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/men.html#Malbeth :}
ArPharazonV: haha
Eonwe Valar: Go go Valar Guild Encyclopedia :}
VardaValar1: Go Eonwe : )
ArPharazonV: well, gonna go to sleep
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well Phar :}
Basketballmatt2 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Welcome back, Malbeth!
Basketballmatt2: i have to go
Eonwe Valar: Take care :}
Basketballmatt2: is there anything else i need to do?
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
VardaValar1: Not if you are in a hurry : )
Basketballmatt2: ok, thank you
VardaValar1: Register on the forum as Malbeth : )
Basketballmatt2: bye
Basketballmatt2 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: ok, saving and sending then
VardaValar1: Thanks!
ArPharazonV: ehrr... it's may first now... I like to name my transcripts to the day the meeting began.. yesterday was the 30th, right?
ArPharazonV: well, today for you
ArPharazonV (21:36:06): saved, anyway
VardaValar1 (21:36:34): It's 30 aye : )
VardaValar1 (21:36:38): Happy May!
ArPharazonV (21:36:41): allright :-)
ArPharazonV (21:40:23): sent
VardaValar1 (21:40:32): Thanks again : )
ArPharazonV (21:42:20): Namarie all
VardaValar1 (21:42:26): Namarie

(21:44:15) Arwen V1 has left the room.
FladrifV: ok now its realy late here
FladrifV: :-)
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well Fladrif :}
FladrifV: 4:01 still at the university
FladrifV: will there be more people around I wonder :D
VardaValar1: heya
VardaValar1: AM? : )
VardaValar1: Still all up working on papers!
Menelvagor Valar: not on papers, but other things, yes.
Menelvagor Valar: mainly trying not to fall asleep on my keyboard though :-D
VardaValar1: move over to the pillow ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: Time for bed now, catch you later everyone!
FladrifV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Later!
Menelvagor Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well :}
VardaValar1: Namarie
Eonwe Valar: Take care :}
