GwaihirValar: me and Gilraen are both here, but we'll be a bit afk-ish :-)
VardaValar1: That's fairly normal : )
VardaValar1: Feel free to put in your two cents when ready
ArPharazonV: *cough*
VardaValar1: I hope you two are getting to chat with each other : )
AuSteinM has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya : )
AuSteinM: Hello
VardaValar1: And we are supposed to be looking at that why, Phar? : )
Orodreth V has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: I found it funny
ArPharazonV: just thought I'd shae
ArPharazonV: *share
VardaValar1: starting now

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: Member News:
VardaValar1: We have 12 in here right at the start of the meeting : )
VardaValar1: Everyone can give themselve a pat on the back : )
ArPharazonV: hard to reach :-(
VardaValar1: shoulder then ;-)
VardaValar1: One handed clap? : )
ArPharazonV: right, that'll do
VardaValar1: I have a question for all who are here
VardaValar1: You came to the meeting, and are much appreciated
VardaValar1: Is there anything you would especially like to get from a meeting?
bnetValar: ArPharazonV (SigmaChat): bridge operational, cap'n
VardaValar1: Way to go!
VardaValar1: Thanks Farmer, for your hard work on the Bridge, and Phar for the testing.
VardaValar1: Would you like more on gaming, Tolkien, or other?
VardaValar1: This could be a very good way to get together for various games
VardaValar1: It can be done during Gaming or in side windows.
ArPharazonV: depends on my mood, mainly... whether I want to hear about gaming, tolkien or other... or if there's specific news for any section
HeruRasa has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Would you guys like to get into other authors as well?
HeruRasa: heyas
VardaValar1: Aiya Ulmo, instigator of meetings since, um, 1998 at tleast : )
FarmerMaggotV: /me confused a little
ArathornValar: Good place for people to come to set up game meets.. course depends if they can get here :-P
VardaValar1: Farmer, what would you like us to do at meetings? The same as we are now? Add something? Subtract something?
HeruRasa: hmm, "instigator" huh, prolly an appropriate word :-)
VardaValar1: We have a Bridge to make it extremely easy to meet
VardaValar1: hehe, Ulmo
GwaihirValar: well, Varda, as she is actually HERE, we should get to chat ;-)
FarmerMaggotV: Heh, meetings seem fine, but perhaps sometime just for plugging cool stuff (like the movie Donnie Darko)
VardaValar1: So general chat, like we do in the After-meeting?
Orodreth V has left the room.
FarmerMaggotV: hm, true ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: I think it's great to know what's going on around the guild.
VardaValar1: Would we be as well served by just the Forum and News page?
Menelvagor Valar: and the way meetings have been for as long as I can remember seems to meet that quite right.
Menelvagor Valar: perhaps.
Eonwe Valar: The meetings to me add a more personal touch.
FarmerMaggotV: The chat is nice, I like a live conversation better than forums
VardaValar1: I have not seen much sending in of News
ArPharazonV: very true
ArPharazonV: chat is more personal
Menelvagor Valar: but well, sharing news in the meeting is well, yeah, a tad bit more personal.
VardaValar1: or a great use of the Forums
VardaValar1: The personal touch is nice : )
ArPharazonV: hey, I read the forums every day
VardaValar1: But do you post? : )
Menelvagor Valar: hardly.
ArPharazonV: not really... but I don't contribute much here either, in news :-)
VardaValar1: I'm glad they are checked, at least by Phar : )
Menelvagor Valar: I am content watching until something really worthwile pops up.
VardaValar1: Phar contributes a lot of Transcripts!
VardaValar1: What would be something really worthwhile, Menel?
ArPharazonV: which go on the news!
ArPharazonV: the circle of the valar guild!
FarmerMaggotV: I have almost all the transcripts, just a matter of hunting them down and remembering to send them
ArPharazonV: news goes in meetings, meetings go in news!
VardaValar1: I've heard it said that if one reads the News, why go to a meeting?
VardaValar1: Comments?
AuSteinM: Reading the News allows no comments, such as this
VardaValar1: I guess your comments earlier, for the personal touch, is enough.
ArathornValar: A followup here on news and forum is nice... not everyone gets up to date and may have questions or comments on what they read
VardaValar1: True, AuStein
Eonwe Valar: If one reads about the baseball game in the paper, why go to the game?
VardaValar1: Aye, Ara
ArathornValar: ha! (Eonwe :-P)
VardaValar1: So we should ask for questions and comments on what is on the News?
ArPharazonV: never understood, Eonwe, don't really like sports ;-)
VardaValar1: I would like to hear comments on some of the Encyc entries we get
VardaValar1: Sure you do, you like WoW sports ;-)
VardaValar1: Suggestions for gaming would be good here
ArPharazonV: or throwing the leather ball around?
FarmerMaggotV: I really like Age of Empires 2 (and 3, but that is but a demo for now) =)
FarmerMaggotV: it's one of the rare games that always end up being installed
ArPharazonV: BoME! I just started again!
VardaValar1: During Gaming, we could pick some activities to do together, like Stratholme, or all jump into D2X together for an hour
ArPharazonV: after five months of gathering dust
VardaValar1: heh
ArPharazonV: the servers were down again, so thought I'd check it out again
ArPharazonV: finally finished helm's deep, after failing the attempts 5 months ago
VardaValar1: We can also try WC3 during the weekly server downtime for WoW : )
ArPharazonV: pushed on in one day to Minas Tirith
ArPharazonV: and now I play it regularly again :-)
Menelvagor Valar: uhm... that's actually pretty easy, Phar.
Menelvagor Valar: Rohirrim are mostly the key.
ArPharazonV: helm's deep? yeah, I know... but I failed horribly in april
ArPharazonV: and I did not have summons back then, at least..
Menelvagor Valar: I finished BoME in like 4 days or so.
VardaValar1: Ok, I'm just asking what you want at meetings : )
ArPharazonV: have to say, Minas Tirith was a lot easier than Helm's Deep...
Menelvagor Valar: true, but you use Rohirrim on the walls and outside just to trample anything that is not pikemen :-)
VardaValar1: Ulmo, do you have any suggestions? It has changed a lot since the first meeting we called.
ArPharazonV: actually, I did it with archers and Legolas, while using the rest of the heroes against the bases :-)
HeruRasa: kinda here and away, still doing bathroom
VardaValar1: Ulmo is busy painting : )
Menelvagor Valar: aha :-)
VardaValar1: Ok, so you guys want to just keep it as we have been? Open to suggestions
VardaValar1: If you're wanting more (or less), this is a good time to speak up.
VardaValar1: Shorter meetings, maybe?
ArPharazonV: Minas Tirith was amazing.. they never even got through the gate... heck, I never retreated within the gate... but continue
VardaValar1: This is your club.
HeruRasa: short is good :-)
FarmerMaggotV: I'm fine with how it is =)
VardaValar1: Short is good, aye : )
Menelvagor Valar: length is fine, it's the time that is sort of an issue.
VardaValar1: As in time of day for Europe?
Menelvagor Valar: or at least, for us euro's it is.
ArPharazonV: yup
VardaValar1: It's too early for me. Cuts right into a very busy time of day
VardaValar1: We had to compromise somehow
Menelvagor Valar: yeah we know :-)
Eonwe Valar: It used to be an hour later as I recall?
VardaValar1: We tried having Tolkien meetings at times people suggested, but the suggesters did not show
VardaValar1: Right, Eonwe
Menelvagor Valar: that's why we here after all :-)
Menelvagor Valar: we're doing our part of compromising
HeruRasa: ther is no good time for meetings, at least not for all
Pengolodh has entered the room.
VardaValar1: No one is completely comfortable, but it's the least stress we could figure : )
VardaValar1: Aiya Pen : )
Pengolodh: Aiya! Let's count the bumps out of the room tonight.
VardaValar1: Pen, we were just talking about what members want from their meetings
VardaValar1: So far, it's been the personal touch and comments on the news, and let's keep it short. : )
Pengolodh: A stable connection, but that's beside the point I think. lol
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: That would be nice!
ArPharazonV: I'm not sure I really want it to change... the long aftermeetings are definitely to my liking at least :-)
VardaValar1: If anyone has suggestons of any kind, my email box is always open. ;-)
VardaValar1: And you from Europe, where the time is extremely late : )
ArPharazonV: it has become a bit of a sense of duty for me to show up and save the transcripts, but outside that, I do enjoy coming here
VardaValar1: Who else besides me and Phar can save transcripts and email them to me?
FarmerMaggotV: I can
Eonwe Valar: I save them all the time just in case.
VardaValar1: That would be great!
Pengolodh: The couple of meetings I've seen so far went pretty quickly in terms of business. I have no complaints on that.
VardaValar1: I put up what i have
VardaValar1: Thanks, Pen
ArPharazonV: heck, I like to have them anyway, and what I have, I can send easily
FarmerMaggotV: the bridge autologs things (even puts weeknumbers in =)) and Gaim logs things
VardaValar1: How about suggestions ahead of time for Tolkien topics?
VardaValar1: They could be emailed
Menelvagor Valar: that may be a nice thing.
VardaValar1: Would we like to start up more Tolkien trivia on the Forum? We let it bog down
VardaValar1: I'd be happy to pull topics out of the suggestion box, so to speak : )
Eonwe Valar: The tolkien trivia mostly seems to get stuck on the next person not asking the question.
Menelvagor Valar: I think the Tolkien Trivia on the forum should be altered a little.
VardaValar1: Would you folks also like to talk about the movies or fanfic, or fiction and poetry maybe from our pages?
ArPharazonV: sounds great, that way I can send it immediately whenever I think of a topic, instead of trying to remember or trying to find a place to write it down
VardaValar1: Menel, aye. It gets halted too easily
VardaValar1: That would help, Phar.
Menelvagor Valar: I've got a couple suggestions.
VardaValar1: Since you are Forum Admin, I'd like to hear : )
Menelvagor Valar: 1) when a question is answered right, and a new one has not been posted within a day, anyone can post a new one.
VardaValar1: Just one day?
ArPharazonV: give it half a week or something
Menelvagor Valar: 2 days if you think it better.
Menelvagor Valar: hey, they are suggestions :-)
VardaValar1: My problem now is that I can't find the email notification anymore, when a topic is updated
VardaValar1: Maybe a week, anyway
VardaValar1: But not over a week
ArPharazonV: ...I wasn't the next one to come up with a question, was I?
Menelvagor Valar: also.
VardaValar1: Do you know if there is still an email notification?
Eonwe Valar: No, you weren't, Phar
ArPharazonV: ah, good...
Eonwe Valar: It was a board member.
AuSteinM has left the room.
Menelvagor Valar: if a question has not been answered in a weeks time, the author should come up with a new one in half a week or questions are open again.
VardaValar1: Sometimes we need a nudge, can be done at meetings : )
VardaValar1: One week is a long enough wait, really
VardaValar1: Would much rather see it faster
ArPharazonV: it took them weeks to answer my question :-(
AuSteinM has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aye
Eonwe Valar: Answered, or an answer attempted?
VardaValar1: Connection prob, AuStein?
ArPharazonV: posted it on the 22nd, and it got answered well on the third
ArPharazonV: many attempts made in-between ;-)
VardaValar1: Attempts are good, means interest
Menelvagor Valar: yes, but questions taking too long to be answered tend to drop interest.
VardaValar1: Also, we were planning on running more than one trivia thread to help with that, on different books
VardaValar1: For instance, one on LotR, one on Sil
Menelvagor Valar: that's why I suggest a time limit on questions.
VardaValar1: Want one on the H?
Menelvagor Valar: been a while
Eonwe Valar: The LotR one included Hobbit, which seemed hard to remember for some of us :}
Menelvagor Valar: and it was only last thursday since I got myself a new copy of LotR
ArPharazonV: hehe
ArPharazonV: come on people, it was Dori!
VardaValar1: Congrats! You no longer have an excuse!
Menelvagor Valar: yeah, and it's hardcover
Menelvagor Valar: and has its own casing
VardaValar1: Mine has Scotch tape cover...
Pengolodh: brb
Menelvagor Valar: with on the cover an eye in flames, and on the casing a hole and flames around it, and the eye shows through it :-)
Eonwe Valar: Mine's getting there, Varda :}
VardaValar1: The covers keep falling off, and one set lost most of the Index
Menelvagor Valar: hehe
VardaValar1: Need more tape
Menelvagor Valar: well, for the time being, my copy is the Holy Grail of Fantasy!
VardaValar1: nice : )
ArPharazonV: my pages are simply starting to tear up on the edges.. but hey, that's paperback for ya
Pengolodh has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: But yeah, some time restrictions on answers and question asking would be good.
VardaValar1: Any other suggestions for the Meetings?
Eonwe Valar: Try to keep on track? :}
VardaValar1: Good point
Pengolodh has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: keeping on track isn't something we're used to do, Eonwe :-)
VardaValar1: Ok, so do we want more Trivia threads, like for the LotR + H, and one for the Sil?
Eonwe Valar: We used to do it quite well actually :}Just haven't done it in a while :}
VardaValar1: If we could have open book, we could say Sil, UT, and Histories :-)
VardaValar1: Hard enough with books
ArPharazonV: hmm.... is that my fault? I don't recall us ever really keeping on track since my joining...
VardaValar1: Sure, it's all your fault that the rest of us don't post! erm. maybe not.
Eonwe Valar: hehe, I wouldn't point the finger at any one person, Phar. More a result of events.
ArPharazonV: no, I mean the topics going off-track
VardaValar1: In meetings, you do tend to jump off the topic when you could use a window, but some other do too, and I have not been keeping a finger on it to stop it.
Menelvagor Valar: you have been more on it of late, Varda :-)
VardaValar1: I think the keep on track is a major point
VardaValar1: We used to have a system where one chair would do the main thread
VardaValar1: The other chair would take the side window talk and tap shoulders
ArPharazonV: the main reason I stay here, is because I desire as much input or replies as possible in my 'off-track'-points, though.. which doesn't work in side-windows
VardaValar1: For just one to do both is much harder
VardaValar1: So you want a general chat, the thing we have in Before and After meetings?
VardaValar1: The general chat makes running through business difficult
VardaValar1: That's why we try to separate it a bit
ArPharazonV: perhaps, yes... I would suggest two main rooms where everyone could join, although that would be harder with transcripts
VardaValar1: Everyone is supposed to be able to put in their bit on the business, with a message to the chair who has to keep track and make sure everyone gets to speak, not just the forward ones
VardaValar1: We have been running two rooms
ArPharazonV: and, of course, I often find it hard to identify where I exactly cross the line, so I don't know when to move...
VardaValar1: One is for programmers
FarmerMaggotV: not lately, I didn't see much interest Varda
VardaValar1: What we had been doing is under each topic, a person is called on
VardaValar1: Aye, I know the feeling, Farmer
VardaValar1: Anyone want to enter the Programmer's side room?
VardaValar1: Farmer, what is the name?
ArPharazonV: not for programming, no :-)
VardaValar1: Not you, Phar. But we used to have others who wanted to talk programming
ArPharazonV: very true
VardaValar1: Phar, we have a before and after just for general chat already
FarmerMaggotV: it was Valar Guild Programmers, IIRC
ArPharazonV: correct, but my offtrack-tangents usually tie in with on-track topics, so it's hard to find that connection when moved to before and after
VardaValar1: In the business part, it's supposed to be that we message the chair that we have business under a topic
VardaValar1: Then the chair calls all those people in their turn
VardaValar1: Then all get to talk, not just one
VardaValar1: It helped speed up things a lot
Eonwe Valar: Questions about topics can be whispered to the chair who can answer or have it put out in the meeting depending on the need.
VardaValar1: Reports or suggestions can then be given by any member
VardaValar1: Does this make any sense?
VardaValar1: heh
VardaValar1: Guess not
VardaValar1: Any member news, as in you have seen someone who cannot make it to meetings? : )
VardaValar1: Any other member news?
VardaValar1: I agree with a comment on a side window, that it would be nice to have AIM transcripts of our old meetings for examples

VardaValar1: Gaming News:
VardaValar1: WoW Europe, any comments?
Pengolodh has left the room.
ArPharazonV: nothing of interest...
ArPharazonV: perhaps Menel has some!
VardaValar1: Menel?
ArPharazonV: Menelvagor :-)
Menelvagor Valar: yes?
Menelvagor Valar: oh sorry
Menelvagor Valar: been chatting to a classmate of mine on homework for tomorrow :-)
Menelvagor Valar: anyways
Menelvagor Valar: WoW europe, the usual, going good, although I'm a little out of touch due to the first couple weeks of school.
Menelvagor Valar: alliance is going great as well.
Menelvagor Valar: friday we managed to kill Magmadar in Molten Core
Menelvagor Valar: nearly managed to kill Gehennas in 1 try as well, but failed due to an unlucky add.
Menelvagor Valar: going in wednesday again to finish the job.
Menelvagor Valar: that's it.
VardaValar1: Thank you, Menel : )
VardaValar1: Eonwe, do we have a WoW Lothar report?
Eonwe Valar: Ulmo and I joined a group to do some of Scholomance :}
VardaValar1: Oh, I'd like to join you guys for some of that!
Eonwe Valar: Got two of the deeds needed for a quest in Western Plaguelands.
Eonwe Valar: The group was pretty good, but we got kicked out of the area needed for the Paladin epic mount quest when we all died.
Eonwe Valar: The gates closed and wouldn't let us in.
Eonwe Valar: We went after another guy though.
Eonwe Valar: Don't remember his name, but he was in the Viewing Room.
Eonwe Valar: After that battle was the end of the trip.
Eonwe Valar: That's all I have.
VardaValar1: That's a bunch
VardaValar1: Sounds as if we could start making small groups to enter with raids now
HeruRasa: if we are serious about making 60s instances raids or groups, or even joining them together we will have to be willing to drop what we are doing to do it
VardaValar1: Like dinner and homework? : )
HeruRasa: there are so few of us as it is
HeruRasa: no, like whatever else in game we are doing, playing alts etc
VardaValar1: Is Friday guild night a reasonable time for it?
VardaValar1: Should we try for another night, or after Sunday meetings for some of us?
HeruRasa: all evenings are good for me, but not till 6 or so VST
VardaValar1: Wow! That's great!
Eonwe Valar: Friday is all I can give during school right now. Someone else will have to organize for any other day.
VardaValar1: That's about my 5pm
VardaValar1: Right during supper for us cooks
HeruRasa: can be later too
mordacil has left the room.
VardaValar1: But we have several 60's at my house, so we can work out something here
VardaValar1: Takes a while just to get together
VardaValar1: Many of us may have a time limit
VardaValar1: These big raids take about 5 hours?
HeruRasa: no
HeruRasa: 2 to 3
VardaValar1: Ah, much easier to work out : )
ArPharazonV: well, just trying to join one would easily absorb some time
VardaValar1: We do need to work up some of our members to the point of raids
VardaValar1: Some just don't have anything high level and we need to help them move along
VardaValar1: But it would be great to have some nights for high level!
ArPharazonV: haven't actually joined one of our raids yet, but from what I see and hear, gathering together and actually raiding together can sometimes take up to 6 hours...
VardaValar1: We could try to choose particular places ahead of tiem
VardaValar1: time
HeruRasa: playing is what moves toons along, and my best experience seems to be solo, so it is really up to the player if they want to advance
VardaValar1: Such as Auros needing the paladin on Friday
VardaValar1: We like to work together as a group low level, learn each other's styles
VardaValar1: fun too : )
VardaValar1: We've been doing it almost daily now
VardaValar1: Playing solo is different from playing group, and takes some practice
Menelvagor Valar: we spent 7 hours from start til finish in MC friday, Phar.
VardaValar1: Some of the support types, like priests, should practice grouping at least some
Menelvagor Valar: it takes about 30 mins to an hour to gather everyone.
HeruRasa: AFK dinner
ArPharazonV: ouch
VardaValar1: For the gathering, we could put our high levels by the instance and park them
ArPharazonV: so just 6 hours for the raid itself?
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: Then play alts until everyone is set
Menelvagor Valar: 6.5 more like it
ArPharazonV: sheesh
VardaValar1: Our family tries to have 4 hour turns on the comp. Could get sticky....
Menelvagor Valar: gathering 5 people for an instance isn't that hard...
Menelvagor Valar: but when gathering 40, it becomes a little harder.
ArPharazonV: but then again, just getting to mc requires you to raid BRD, right?
Menelvagor Valar: no
ArPharazonV: no?
Menelvagor Valar: MC is below BRD
ArPharazonV: I thought the entrance was deep inside...
Menelvagor Valar: and the attunement for it is found in the deepest bowels
Menelvagor Valar: and there is an entrance there
ArPharazonV: ok
Menelvagor Valar: have you been attuned yet?
ArPharazonV: nope
ArPharazonV: but I got the quest yesterday
Menelvagor Valar: then you know where the person giving the quest is
ArPharazonV: I feel like doing most of BRD first before focusing on other instances
ArPharazonV: yes
Menelvagor Valar: then after getting attuned, walk right through the window on the right hand side of that person (left side for those watching him) and you're in MC
ArPharazonV: atm I have 6 quests in BRD still, so I'd like to get them out of the way...
ArPharazonV: ah, nice
Menelvagor Valar: hah
Menelvagor Valar: I've never been to BRD, save to get the attunement :P
Eonwe Valar: I've still got 2 Zul Farrak and 1 Maraudon quests I'd like to get out of the way :}
VardaValar1: ok, so we're pretty set on WoW news now?
VardaValar1: I have a ton too, Eonwe : )
ArPharazonV: haha
VardaValar1: Those not afk, what games not WoW have you played this wekk?
VardaValar1: week
aranfinwe: Halo
FladrifV: none
ArPharazonV: I've done everything I can in Maraudon, Uldaman, Zul'Farrak, Sunken Temple...
ArPharazonV: but aye, Battle for Middleearth
ArPharazonV: as I described earlier in the meeting
VardaValar1: We played a little Halo recently had to return the game
Menelvagor Valar: uhm... only single-player games I'm afraid.
AuSteinM has left the room.
ArPharazonV: oh, one more thing of WoW
ArPharazonV: Europe
ArPharazonV: we've started sort of a horde-branch on one of the new rp-pvp servers
FarmerMaggotV: I've played Age of Empires 2
VardaValar1: Cool, Farmer
ArPharazonV: so perhaps you'll be hearing news from that server as well, in the future...
VardaValar1: What is the server name?
ArPharazonV: Venture Co
VardaValar1: Thanks
ArPharazonV: can't recall the name... was something against Staghelm, though :-)
ArPharazonV: like "raiding Fandral" or something
ArPharazonV: the guild-name, tha tis
VardaValar1: Eonwe has some WoW news that crosses both Lothar and Europe
ArPharazonV: and yes, I've continued BfME again... so if anyone wants to multiplay with or against me, let me know :-)
VardaValar1: Go ahead, Eonwe
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
Eonwe Valar: Phar's comments reminded me of something in the WoW Battleplan 2 that I'll quote:
Eonwe Valar: Another feature of the Web site we'll be implementing is fee-based character transfers. This is a feature that's been very frequently requested and one which we want to provide for players as soon as we can.
Eonwe Valar: We'll offer character transfers from one realm to another, as well as allow players to move characters from one account to another.
Eonwe Valar: While we want to offer this service as a convenience, we also want to prevent its use for exploitive reasons, so there will be a time restriction to limit the frequency that a character can be moved.
Eonwe Valar: So this may be of use in the future.
ArPharazonV: moving characters from realm to realm.... has some interesting complications, I'd say
ArPharazonV: quests, for instance... but I assume they'll be tied to the character, and not the realm
ArPharazonV: or honor points, or lockouts...
Eonwe Valar: The account one seems to be have the more interesting complications to me.
VardaValar1: We would love that. We could make a new account for each of us as we can afford it and move our heavily-played characters there
Eonwe Valar: But it could still be useful for those wishing to pull their chars to another account.
VardaValar1: We currently only have two slots apiece.
VardaValar1: We could even play with each other, if we got another comp :-)
ArPharazonV: sounds like ebay-traffic to me...
Eonwe Valar: :}
VardaValar1: Easy to abuse. Would be of huge help to my family tho
ArPharazonV: you would easily be able to 'sell' your characters
FladrifV: would never be profitable
Eonwe Valar: That's why they're working on ways to reduce the usefullness of that for those trying to sell characters.
FladrifV: it tooks you a month or more to get it to lvl 60
VardaValar1: Fladrif, high level characters on EQ go for good money.
FladrifV: at what amount of money are we talking about? :-)
VardaValar1: heh - now he's thinking about it
VardaValar1: Depends on your char and the market : )
ArPharazonV: Flad, it took me a month to reach 60 indeed, but that was just me
ArPharazonV: there are ways to get your character to 60 very fast
ArPharazonV: Elafin did it in 10 days
FladrifV: 10 days?
FladrifV: yieks
FladrifV: takes me half a year now
ArPharazonV: you can 'mass-produce' characters at a time to keep them rested, and get several characters to 60 in one month or more
Eonwe Valar: Imagine how quickly it could be done by someone who made a living by it.
ArPharazonV: exactly
HeruRasa: they used to go for good money, not any more
ArPharazonV: well, Flad, that was in-game time
Eonwe Valar: That's what BLizzard wants to prevent.
VardaValar1: People who buy characters miss out on an awful lot
VardaValar1: Thanks, Ulmo, didn't know
Eonwe Valar: People who buy characters are lazy :}
FarmerMaggotV: not always
VardaValar1: How can they know the right way to play?
FladrifV: people who do that have only the boring part ;-)
ArPharazonV: hehe
HeruRasa: 2 years ago you could get thousands for an account if it had a Time flagged well equipped toon
VardaValar1: Heru means EQ
FarmerMaggotV: you buy a game for entertainment, if you don't enjoy the leveling part.... it's why I cheat in Evil Genius, I'd prefer just to be able to play around rather than go through the missions
FarmerMaggotV: (it should be noted Evil Genius is single player only)
ArPharazonV: I don't... I enjoy missions and quests more than anything else
ArPharazonV: I would never buy a character
Eonwe Valar: Entertainment is in the journey, not in the destination.
VardaValar1: or afford it ; )
FarmerMaggotV: not to everyone though
ArPharazonV: not even if I had to pay 5 cents for 20 chars
Eonwe Valar: If you want entertainment with no work, there's movies :}
VardaValar1: Lot of people in Diablo series could make an uber character with uber equipment to start out. I think they wanted to use it to bash other people's heads is all.
Eonwe Valar: or rather, replace work with effort
Eonwe Valar: Games are supposed to be challenging.
FarmerMaggotV: not really
FarmerMaggotV: games are meant to be entertainment
HeruRasa: WoW accounts are already being sold, I don't see how Blizzard can stop it
FarmerMaggotV: if you enjoy a challenge, then great
FladrifV: what I have noticed in wow the older you get (higher lvl) the lonesommer the life is
FarmerMaggotV: it's entertainment, which is why they make it
ArPharazonV: may be, Flad, but that flips around
Eonwe Valar: Ah, so let's tweak my chess set with all Queens! :}
FarmerMaggotV: if it were more fun for you
VardaValar1: We even get spam in WoW mail, trying to sell us stuff, like the D2X bots spam in the channel
ArPharazonV: once you reach the high fifties, the world suddenly grows around you
ArPharazonV: you make more and more friends
ArPharazonV: get better and better parties, and faster
ArPharazonV: and when you get 60... well...
FarmerMaggotV: Eonwe -> you enjoy a challenge, you get challenging games, others may not like that much challenge
Eonwe Valar: Nobody buys an easy game because beating an easy game means nothing.
FarmerMaggotV: what if just playing the easy game is fun?
HeruRasa: you don't ever really beat mmorgs
FarmerMaggotV: it doesn't really need to be beat
Eonwe Valar: Super Mario Brothers was big because it was a challenge, not because it was easy.
Eonwe Valar: also because it was fun, admittedly :}
ArPharazonV: but I have to agree with Farmer to a degree
ArPharazonV: I often play games in easy mode, just because I like putting my mind in 'numb' position and crush everything the easy way
VardaValar1: It's good that WoW is versatile enough to handle a lot of tastes.
ArPharazonV: that's why I enjoy green quests in WoW more than yellow
FarmerMaggotV: like giving myself tons of money in the Sims would be fun, because I like being able to just have free roam, not trying to acheive anything
FladrifV: oh I feel like agiant when I complete a red quest
HeruRasa: Diablo could be beat, I did it. One toon could repeatedly clear the hardes game. Mmorgs require groups or raids to clear a zone, no "one" ever beats the game.
VardaValar1: Depends on what you think is beating the game. We hit 60, feels like a win in a way.
ArPharazonV: I will feel like I have beaten the game, when I have done every single quest except for the repeatable ones :-)
ArPharazonV: luckily for me, Blizzard keeps adding new ones ;-)
FarmerMaggotV: I'm just saying people enjoy different things, if they don't like leveling and want to use a premade char, then sure
HeruRasa: You may have made the game seem tedious, but you didn't beat it
VardaValar1: heh
ArPharazonV: let me put this way: I have beaten the story of the game
ArPharazonV: I have solved the world's problems
ArPharazonV: there's not a single npc who needs my help
ArPharazonV: for me, that spells 'done'
Eonwe Valar: If one doesn't like leveling, don't focus on leveling, focus on questing and let leveling be a byproduct.
HeruRasa: The ones they have made quests to solve, still more to come :-)
ArPharazonV: that works for me, Eonwe: levelling has always been a byproduct
ArPharazonV: yet I did it fast enough for my own taste :-)
Eonwe Valar: I did it too fast :}
ArPharazonV: me too
ArPharazonV: but I never grinded or anything
VardaValar1: I like leveling as a byproduct too. Snuck up on me to hit 60
Eonwe Valar: There's little point in buying a character because you miss most of what the game has to offer.
FarmerMaggotV: it's just a matter of what they prefer
ArPharazonV: exactly
ArPharazonV: ^to Eonwe's comment
Eonwe Valar: And chances are, if you don';t even know how to play that character, you won't find too many people willing to give you a second chance at a group.
Eonwe Valar: therefore ruling yourself out of high-end content.
FarmerMaggotV: but if that's the way they want to play, then so be it
Pengolodh has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: at level 60, all there is pretty much is group stuff, and the quests you may have missed on your way up.
Eonwe Valar: and of course pvp,. which is the only real reason to buy a lvl 60 character.
ArPharazonV: I think there are very few quests I've missed 'on the way up', I've been very thorough....
ArPharazonV: perhaps just a few that come from random loot
FarmerMaggotV: hows PvP work in WoW?
FarmerMaggotV: both people have to be set to PK or something?
ArPharazonV: like that map you can piece together in Tanaris... still have the one piece you sent me, Flad :-)
HeruRasa: There are trade recipes that require reputations to get that require going back to earn
Eonwe Valar: Hmm perhaps we should get back to the meeting :}
VardaValar1: Aye, Farmer, in Norm servers. PvP servers it's like being pre-set
FarmerMaggotV: so, what's the harm?
FladrifV: hehe
FarmerMaggotV has left the room.
FarmerMaggotV has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: PvP servers you're always flagged
ArPharazonV: except in your own capital or starting-zones
VardaValar1: We have members who don't play WoW and are about to fall asleep : )
Menelvagor Valar: od blast
Menelvagor Valar: oh*
Menelvagor Valar: look at the time :-)
aranfinwe: rofl
Eonwe Valar: And it's possible to be flagged on Normal servers without actually having the intention of doing PvP if you're not careful about what NPC you heal during a quest.
ArPharazonV: hehe, yep
Menelvagor Valar: been so busy with my homework, I haven't even checked here in more than half an hour....
Eonwe Valar: I've been killed twice like that.
ArPharazonV: I usually run away and hide until the five minutes are up :-)
HeruRasa: NPCs that can be healed?
VardaValar1: Some quests force you into being flagged. I consider that an error
Eonwe Valar: I didn't have a chance. I was in mid-quest.
ArPharazonV: except for NPCs of course
VardaValar1: Aye, on escort quests, you can heal the NPC. I've done it too
Pengolodh: I've been ganked and camped so much that when my old guild wanted us to draw a picture of our character, I drew "6 minutes to Res"
ArPharazonV: I've never been harassed or 'intercepted' as you call it, during an escort-quest
VardaValar1: We have
Eonwe Valar: I healed the NPC whose only purpose it was to be escorted (he appeared out of thin air. It's not like he was standing around) and I got flagged. He wasn't even attacking a player, just a creep.
VardaValar1: Groups attacked us
ArPharazonV: most horde seem to appreciate what you're doing, and might actually help
ArPharazonV: but that might just be the RP-server...
Pengolodh: Every so often that even happens on PvP
Pengolodh: Then another one comes along and gets you.
ArPharazonV: hehe
HeruRasa: Blightcaller is the only quest I have done where I was killed by a PC
ArPharazonV: no, the horde-alliance stances on Argent Dawn are actually quite friendly
ArPharazonV: of course, you can get whacked sometimes, but generally, we're friendly... even in pvp-mode
Pengolodh: On Mal'Ganis the Horde overran everything.
VardaValar1: Ariel or whatever the tree escort guy is in Felwood, we got hit by Horde on that several times
ArPharazonV: right, I know that one
ArPharazonV: I think some horde even rode along on that one :-)
VardaValar1: I often have friendly play with Horde, but that was not.
ArPharazonV: curiosity and helpfulness seems to beat aggressiveness with most people
VardaValar1: One more item that should have gone under Members:
VardaValar1: Idril-V rejoined
Pengolodh: When I dropped WoW I suggested something to counterbalance the "Honor" system that actually resembled honor between side.
Eonwe Valar: Yay Idril :}
VardaValar1: She comes on AIM as Narthais
VardaValar1: We need to go to Web News
VardaValar1: And you folks can whisper me Tolkien topics : )

VardaValar1: Web News:
VardaValar1: Eonwe, go ahead
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: The Games Page Update Mails have all been sent out.
Eonwe Valar: Just playing the waiting game now :}
Eonwe Valar: Several have already sent their info in
aranfinwe: whoops, I suppose I SHOULD answer that one.... :-)
Eonwe Valar: SO if you haven't, for whatever reason, send it in :}
ArPharazonV: oh, right, that one...
VardaValar1: (We also use the Games Page update to see if people are still active.)
Eonwe Valar: Member, Maia, Vala, or Eru, send it in if you haven't already :}
ArPharazonV: well, with the exception of WoW... I don't really think I'm different from last time
VardaValar1: Email it, Phar : )
ArPharazonV: yes, I probably should that...
ArPharazonV: can't I just say: I play WoW, add that to my old list?
ArPharazonV: unless my old list is already removed...
Eonwe Valar: I typically clean all the stuff off the new version, as I mention in the web page :}
Eonwe Valar: er, e-mail :}
VardaValar1: Yes, it's been removed
Pengolodh has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: We do have some e-mails I couldn't send to however.
ArPharazonV: ah, darn it.... guess I'll have to recreate my list
Eonwe Valar: I prefer it that way anyway :}
Pengolodh has entered the room.
FladrifV: send
Eonwe Valar: If you happen to see any of the following people, tell them to update their e-mail and send in their gaming info.
ArPharazonV: question: are there many guilds akin to ours?
Eonwe Valar: Draugluin, Galadriel, Rumil
ArPharazonV: (I'll wait with that question)
Eonwe Valar: Also Irmo, pardon.
Eonwe Valar: That's it for the Games Page.
aranfinwe: there, reply sent now :-)
Eonwe Valar: THanks :}
Menelvagor Valar: ok, time for me to head to bed, gotta be up in 5 hours.
HeruRasa: namarie Menel
Pengolodh: Namarie
Eonwe Valar: Also, for those interested,..
VardaValar1: Namarie!
aranfinwe: namarie
Menelvagor Valar: Namarie
Menelvagor Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: I'm currently inquiring if the ME mod will be updated for version 1.11 of LoD.\
Eonwe Valar: Currently, if you wish to play it, you will need to have LoD v1.10 installed.
Eonwe Valar: That's it for my news.
VardaValar1: Thanks, Eonwe
VardaValar1: That was a lot of effort!
Eonwe Valar: MP
VardaValar1: More on Web News:
VardaValar1: I dropped the Names page from the index
VardaValar1: It seemed redundant and was not being updated well. It was very difficult to check
Pengolodh: (I always knew you were a name-dropper)
VardaValar1: heheh
VardaValar1: The Members page and Activity page already try to list used names
VardaValar1: The Encyc already gives lists of potential names with much more info
ArPharazonV: a shame, I found the page very useful when going for names..
VardaValar1: If you want the page kept, let me know
VardaValar1: In what way was it more useful than comparing those other pages?
Pengolodh: Namarie, all! I need some sleep!
ArPharazonV: well, frankly, the names-page was a lot more equipped for the specific task
ArPharazonV: than going over pages and pages of the encyc
ArPharazonV: Namarie
aranfinwe: namarie pen
VardaValar1: bye
Pengolodh has left the room.
VardaValar1: Phar, if they want elf names, they go to the elf page and see a list
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: May even be easier
ArPharazonV: but I, for example, hadn't decided upon a specific race
ArPharazonV: so it was easier to just browse through the one page and make a top-10
VardaValar1: I am also working up an alphabetical index and you can pick one of the top A names ; )
ArPharazonV: and I could see with one blink of an eye if the name was taken or not... no comparing necessary
ArPharazonV: of course, that was before I discovered it was out-of-date
VardaValar1: That has been the problem
ArPharazonV: had I compared, I might be named Fingolfin today :-)
VardaValar1: If it could have been kept updated, it could have been good
VardaValar1: I have too many pages to work on already, and that one got handed back to me
ArPharazonV: ic
VardaValar1: After a while, I just can't do them all, and it was repetitive
VardaValar1: The pages don't get shorter : )
VardaValar1: The page is still on my hard drive
Eonwe Valar: I'll pick keeping the Encyclopedia over the Names Page anyday :}
VardaValar1: heh
VardaValar1: I only made the Activity page because the email where I kept those notes for promotion was wiped a few times
VardaValar1: Others needed the info too
VardaValar1: I keep it more current than the Names or Members pages can be
ArPharazonV: well, I suggest keeping it on your harddrive
ArPharazonV: one might stand up and take responsibility for it's updating... heck it might even be me, if I grew a little more discipline and work-responsibility
VardaValar1: Sure. I am
VardaValar1: I'm not holding my breath...
VardaValar1: Tolkien Encyclopedia:
ArPharazonV: I wouldn't either if I were you :-)
VardaValar1: The Ents page has been separated into individual articles
VardaValar1: Each has been credited on the appropriate Author page
VardaValar1: You guys should check your Author pages because I tend to be very tired when working on the Encyc : )
aranfinwe: NoDoz :-)
VardaValar1: The author pages are being updated as I go through making articles
VardaValar1: Coffee, big pot : )
VardaValar1: It's something I have to do after doing the rest of the day, and may be at 2am
VardaValar1: I'd rather do that than Names page ; )
aranfinwe: ouch
VardaValar1: It's not like I'm being paid or have no life ; )
VardaValar1: But I love the Encyc
aranfinwe: hehe
VardaValar1: I also try to update the Lothar Web page
VardaValar1: every few days
VardaValar1: but I need to know what your professions are and when you hit 300
VardaValar1: The in-game guild roster does not give that info and I can't hear thoughts very well ;-)
VardaValar1: Any other web news?
VardaValar1: Arathorn maybe?
VardaValar1: No Tolkien topics have been given. I may stick you with one : )
VardaValar1: Last chance...

VardaValar1: Lost Valar
VardaValar1: Do any of you besides Eonwe know what is meant by that term?
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Hey
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): I'm a tad late. Was busy. :/
VardaValar1: Hey Eomer!
VardaValar1: Good to hear from you!
Eonwe Valar: Hey Eomer :}
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Thanks. :-) It's been a while.
VardaValar1: Do you happen to know what the term "Lost Valar" means? That is our discussion topic.
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Hrm... Not really, though is sounds familiar... Does it have something to do with valar who weren't mentioned in the Sil, but we
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): re mentioned in other books?
VardaValar1: Good thinking
VardaValar1: and right : )
VardaValar1: Eonwe is one of them
VardaValar1: In early stories, he was a Vala, son of Manwe and Varda.
VardaValar1: Later, JRRT decided the Valar could not have children
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Yup. I think I've heard this before, like 4 years ago. :P Maybe the name triggered a memory unconciously.
VardaValar1: So the children who had roles that needed to remain generally became Maiar
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Ah. How many were there?
VardaValar1: It's also in the Encyclopedia : )
VardaValar1: I'm trying to get other people to talk, but might not be any
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Well, that's handy. I'll go take a look.
VardaValar1: Can anyone mention a few more of these lost Valar?
VardaValar1: heh
ArPharazonV: Makar and Measse
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Oooh. Is this bridge thing a bridge between different clients and this?
VardaValar1: Good, right
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Amillo?
VardaValar1: Aye, the Bridge goes to AIM, Bnet, IRC, and SigmaChat
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Or is that Makar? I can't remember. ::
VardaValar1: Right, Amillo/Omar
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Hrm. That's pretty cool.
ArPharazonV: Salmar?
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Wasn't that Manwe?
ArPharazonV: no
VardaValar1: Manwe was never lost : )
ArPharazonV: Salmar was a servant of Ulmo, and brother of Amillo
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Ah
ArPharazonV: not sure if he's mentioned in the Silm, hence the ?
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): I thought it might have been one of his aliases.
VardaValar1: Servant always seemed the wrong word
ArPharazonV: that was Sulimo :-)
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Right. :P
VardaValar1: Salmar is in the Sil as a Maia of Ulmo, who made his horns
ArPharazonV: ah, ok
ArPharazonV: nevermind then
VardaValar1: And boy do they have a lot of aliases! : )
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Haha, that they do.
VardaValar1: Does Luthien still play, or want to come to meetings, or mess with the Tolkien Encyc?
VardaValar1: your sister
ArPharazonV: thought that was Eowyn :-$
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: Luthien-V then : )
VardaValar1: Eowyn-V still plays : )
VardaValar1: So how many Lost Valar have we collected now?
ArPharazonV: 4!
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Bleh. I have to go and take a shower.
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Sorry.
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Nice seeing you guys again! I'll try to make it to next week's meeting. Not sure if I'll be in town, though.
ArPharazonV: shower... right... thanks for the reminder
bnetValar: Eomer (SigmaChat): Haha. Np. :P
Eonwe Valar: Take care Eomer :}
VardaValar1: bye
Eonwe Valar: Good to see you :}
ArPharazonV: I need to show tomorrow morning before my brother's graduation
ArPharazonV: bye!
VardaValar1: Telimektar
ArPharazonV: *shower
aranfinwe: namarie
VardaValar1: Great!
VardaValar1: Namarie!
ArPharazonV: Telimektar.. son of Tulkas?
VardaValar1: That should be eight
VardaValar1: Aye
VardaValar1: Makes him Orome's nephew : )
ArPharazonV: oh, right, Tulkas' wife being Orome's sister
VardaValar1: Right!
ArPharazonV: didn't Eonwe have a sister?
VardaValar1: Ilmare
ArPharazonV: could very well be
VardaValar1: I know my kids ;-)
ArPharazonV: true
ArPharazonV: I never had any
VardaValar1: Ok, folks. This comp is needed for homework
ArPharazonV: ok
VardaValar1: Only my kids in Tolkien, Eonwe and Ilmare
VardaValar1: Not real life
FarmerMaggotV: mine too, but I don't want to do it =P
ArPharazonV: I know, Varda...
ArPharazonV: but in Tolkien I never had kids either
VardaValar1: Others read these transcripts : )
VardaValar1: curmudgeon ;-)
VardaValar1: Namarie!
ArPharazonV: curwhat?
FarmerMaggotV: a crusty irascible cantankerous old person full of stubborn ideas
FarmerMaggotV: (from google)
ArPharazonV: riiight
ArPharazonV: well, Pharazon fits the bill
VardaValar1: : )
VardaValar1: Makes it hard to get married too ; )
ArPharazonV: now that you describe him like that...
ArPharazonV: I'm a little less happy with choosing his name :-(
VardaValar1: Just kidding
VardaValar1: You said you wanted to try to redeem the name
ArPharazonV: very true
VardaValar1: It had been dragged through the mud
VardaValar1: You have done a fine job of redemption
ArPharazonV: but I mostly had my predecessor in mind :-)
ArPharazonV: thanks
VardaValar1: Maybe Eru will leave Numenor above water now
VardaValar1: Aye, you did
ArPharazonV: hehe
VardaValar1: Hey, you picked a semi-villainous name : )
ArPharazonV: very true
ArPharazonV: hmm... wasn't my second or third choice Wormtongue? hmm...
VardaValar1: Interesting choices
ArPharazonV: true
VardaValar1: Ulmo, are you back from dinner?
ArPharazonV: the li'l old villain in me :-)
aranfinwe: I'd say you were asking for it then, Phar :-)
FarmerMaggotV: argh, essay to do ><
VardaValar1: I'm going to see about trying to grab the comp and putting a lvl 60 on it
FarmerMaggotV: Technologies have affected the world since the dawn of humanity. Examples of such effects are the Age of Exploration and the Age of Information
FarmerMaggotV: hows that?
ArPharazonV: but when I chose Pharazon, I wasn't expecting that the name had been mud-dragged by a former guildmember
VardaValar1: Those are good examples instead of evil. Refreshing.
aranfinwe: lol
VardaValar1: Yes you did. I warned you
ArPharazonV: yes, true
VardaValar1: You said you wanted to redeem it
ArPharazonV: but not at my initial choice
VardaValar1: And you did
ArPharazonV: when you warned me, I just went through with it
VardaValar1: I admired your reason
ArPharazonV: but when I made my own personal choice to put Pharazon on top of the list, I had no idea the redeeming was necessary :-)
ArPharazonV: :-)
ArPharazonV: thank you

VardaValar1: Namarie
ArPharazonV: Namarie
aranfinwe: namarie
VardaValar1 has left the room.
Xseanzee disco has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiya
ArPharazonV: you just missed Varda
Xseanzee disco has left the room.
FladrifV: namarie all
ArPharazonV: Namarie
aranfinwe: namarie
FarmerMaggotV: Namarie
