Narthais: was just trying to join ^^
GilraenV: Gwai's in the land of the blissfully sleeping
VardaValar1: For no reason we know of, Valar Guild Meetingplace does
VardaValar1: Lucky Gwaihir :-)
ArPharazonV: yup, I noticed
VardaValar1: So we have this handy dandy alternate
Eonwe Valar: heya
VardaValar1: Shades of Diablo : )
CreDesInc101 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: We'll need to do some teamwork today
VardaValar1: People will be coming on unable to find the room
VardaValar1: We need to watch for them and invite
VardaValar1: Also, we should probably do some checking on the QuickAIM
page and Activity page to try to update our lists!
VardaValar1: I need to anyway, even if you guys are up to date : )
VardaValar1: Happy 8th Anniversary to all of you!
VardaValar1: Those were some lovely things said on the Forum
Eonwe Valar: Happy Anniversary! :}
CreDesInc101: HAPPY ANIVERSARY!!
VardaValar1: Everyone might like to check out the Forum and add to it,
especially if you are too shy to do it here.
VardaValar1: Turin is definitely not shy!
ArPharazonV: Happy anniversary!
VardaValar1: Our anniversary was actually the 4th, but this was the
VardaValar1: It let us play around during the week too : )
FarmerMaggotV: heh =)
VardaValar1: Some of the group has been trying to keep the meeting chat
room up all week
ArPharazonV: sorry I wasn't there ;-)
VardaValar1: Might be why it bombed so badly today? Although that makes
FarmerMaggotV: yeah, it was kinda quiet at times Phar ;-)
VardaValar1: It was a valiant effort, and I thank you all!
VardaValar1: Aye, we needed Phar to keep it lively!
Narthais: did it stay up all week until today?
ArPharazonV: hard to connect to the internet when you're visiting caves
and staying on a camping in a riverdale in Southern France...
VardaValar1: We tried, Idril, but it kept crashing
VardaValar1: especially at night in the Western Hemisphere
Narthais: ah, good effort though!
VardaValar1: It was as if AIM decided to clear us out, even with 5 or
more people in here
Menelvagor Valar: quite so
VardaValar1: It was easier last year : )
VardaValar1: We had to really work this time!
Menelvagor Valar: and more than once.
CreDesInc101: Well a 5 day part might cause that, heh.
VardaValar1: Special kudos to Orodreth for kicking it off
VardaValar1: Maybe so!
sila lumenn omentielvo!
VardaValar1: And may the stars continue to shine on our meetings for
many to come!
ArPharazonV: cheers to that!
CreDesInc101: hip hip horray!!
VardaValar1: Member News:
CreDesInc101: and a hazza for that matter
VardaValar1: Since we were already on it, guess I should put in the bits
VardaValar1: Somehow we developed this system for meetings over time
VardaValar1: It seemed to cover most everything
VardaValar1: Since things change, and we aren't perfect, suggestions
are always welcome
VardaValar1: We've adapted to each other's ideas for years now, and
such working together keeps it fresh
Orodreth V has entered the room.
VardaValar1: I'm hoping more of you have an eye on going for Maia
Honor, and are even considering what you might do to be a Vala
VardaValar1: Huzzah for Orodreth!
VardaValar1: Thanks for your efforts this week1
ArPharazonV: ehrm... an eye, sure... but willing to put in the work for
it, is another thing...
VardaValar1: That is part of the reason they are honored : )
CreDesInc101: if only there were an extra 12 hours to the day....
VardaValar1: Phar here has been helping with transcripts for the News
page for a long time
VardaValar1: Orodreth says he only appears to be here. Some kind of lag
CreDesInc101: the punishments of AIM continue!!
VardaValar1: Maybe we could use AIM and game lag mess-ups to add those
ArPharazonV: an extra 12 hours would be nice, in real life...
VardaValar1: We have had offers for new rooms
ArPharazonV: sure, 6 more hours for sleep, but other than that...
VardaValar1: One must pull that off with good management or, in my
case, skip silly things like sleep.... ; )
VardaValar1: Irmo, don't be upset1
Orodreth V has left the room.
VardaValar1: Ok, let's do a check to see who is actually here and who
is afk or an AIM ghost
Narthais: im here =P
VardaValar1: check : )
Eonwe Valar: I'm here :}
Orodreth V has entered the room.
GilraenV: I'm here. Mostly.
VardaValar1: Good enough : ) You can scroll
GwaihirValar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya eagle1
VardaValar1: We may have to translate 1 to !
CreDesInc101: im conscious
GilraenV: not having much luck with the exclamation today eh, Varda?
VardaValar1: Nope. Hitting wrong pretty consistently : )
GilraenV: maybe the aim demon's got to your keyboard too ;-)
VardaValar1: We've had a few people say they are interested in joining,
one may be in about an hour into the meeting due to work
VardaValar1: I wish I had an excuse, Gilraen. : ) I just hit it wrong
GwaihirValar: heya :-)
VardaValar1: Excuses, hmm. I just switched over from another keyboard
at the other comp. Of course I miss the ! there too....
VardaValar1: Any other member news?
GilraenV: hehe. you an still blame the aim demon ;-)
VardaValar1: : )
Eonwe Valar: never met one of those :}
VardaValar1: Farmer has a short time available and would like to give
his news now
VardaValar1: Go ahead, Farmer
FarmerMaggotV: Ok, I've got a server doing rather nothing and I've been
hosting to anyone interested
FarmerMaggotV: I've already given the guild some
VardaValar1: About how much will you be able to pass to the guild?
FarmerMaggotV: Tech details: about a 500MB - 1GB space max depending, MySQL,
FarmerMaggotV: if anyone's interested, just send me an IM and I'll get it
VardaValar1: Farmer has a very special extra on his server
VardaValar1: He has a database setup
VardaValar1: Alatar's valarguild server we use for the main base, the
VardaValar1: AuStein's we use mostly for graphics
VardaValar1: This could give us still another special ability, and that
is a very generous amount of space, Farmer!
VardaValar1: Thank you!
VardaValar1: Thanks to all these servers, free from guild members, we
have a really exceptional website
VardaValar1: The collective expertise of the group is really amazing!
VardaValar1: If you'd like to add your own specialties in, this is a
great place to practice : )
VardaValar1: We can use nearly any talent
VardaValar1: Mull it over and email me, if you think of something
VardaValar1: We also need folks to help us organize in different games
VardaValar1: Eonwe and I can't be on all of them, much though we wish
VardaValar1: If you have a game that you play online often, consider
helping us with the organization
VardaValar1: Any kind of contribution to the whole group is considered
a mark towards becoming a Maia
VardaValar1: Thanks for the side screen offers, oh shy and kind
VardaValar1: Just for fun, let's try having different people be chair
for different sections
VardaValar1: Menel, are you present right now?
VardaValar1: Orodreth, how about you? : )
Orodreth V: Mebbe.>.>
VardaValar1: Good enough!
VardaValar1: Orodreth, you get to call on folks for the Web Section!
VardaValar1: Eonwe has Games
VardaValar1: For Tolkien, I should ask for a volunteer : )
VardaValar1: Ok, any volunteers?
VardaValar1: Hah! Ok, you can nominate some luckless wight then!
Orodreth V: Ooo, I choose Ar! :-D
ArPharazonV: Arwen, you heard him!
Orodreth V: That's just mean.
VardaValar1: I don't know...
ArPharazonV: is it? is it really?
VardaValar1: Arwen, are you there?
Orodreth V: ArPhar*
CreDesInc101: sorry, but i got to go now, life and all that stuff
VardaValar1: Life is good
ArPharazonV: I nominate... Gilraen
VardaValar1: We'll be around a while. See you later!
GilraenV: Gilraen has to go sleep soon, otherwise she'd love to
CreDesInc101: Namarie, I might be able to sneak back on later.
VardaValar1: Cool : )
CreDesInc101 has left the room.
GilraenV: but it's quarter to 11 and she has to be up at six-thirty for
ArPharazonV: ah, ok
VardaValar1: Thanks for volunteering to help with the web pages,
Gilraen : )
VardaValar1: Ok, Phar, you're the only available one on the nominees!
Orodreth V: /me points and laughs
ArPharazonV: Menelvagor? Farmer?
FarmerMaggotV: seems it's on you Phar
VardaValar1: Do we have any more Member News?
VardaValar1: We have a lot of birthdays and anniversaries going
VardaValar1: We make an attempt to list them on the Forum calendar : )
VardaValar1: Any other member news?
ArPharazonV: I'm back from France!
VardaValar1: Yay, Phar!
VardaValar1: Orodreth moderating. : )
Orodreth V: Message me for web news.
Orodreth V: :-P
Orodreth V: If no one besides Farmer has anything for this..
ArPharazonV: ok, start flooding me with Tolkien-topics then, and I'll
see what I can do when my time comes...
Orodreth V: Alright.
Orodreth V: Eonwe, go.
Eonwe Valar: In case I haven't mentioned it, The Games Page update has been
completed, and I'll be updating the page shortly. Everyone should've
recieved a mail at the beginning of September, but if for some reason
Orodreth V: E
Eonwe Valar: that doesn't exempt you from sendign in your info :}
Menelvagor Valar: whoops.
Eonwe Valar: I'll have the new info up as soon as I can.
ArPharazonV: *agrees with Menel*
Eonwe Valar: That does it for me for now.
Orodreth V: Varda had some news about the encyclopedia.
VardaValar1: Another Tolkien fan site run by a small group in
Scandinavia and E. Europe linked to us
VardaValar1: We now have a return link
VardaValar1: They have done a lot of work!
GilraenV: I'm off, folks. namarie.
VardaValar1: Also, on the Encyc page
GilraenV has left the room.
VardaValar1: The A-Z menu is
available, but incomplete until all articles are separated for it to
VardaValar1: This week, the Plants
and Trolls pages were
separated and put into it
VardaValar1: I look at the page of Men and shudder, but it will be done!
VardaValar1: Doing the articles you guys send in is easier now, as I
know how I want to set it up
VardaValar1: All of you have your own Author
pages, filling in as I do the article separations
VardaValar1: Those should also cut down on your spam, as only the
Author page has the contact info
VardaValar1: For those with hundreds of entries, that is a big help.
Also easier to update!
Narthais: have to go guys, sorry. namarie
VardaValar1: I'm done, Orodreth : )
VardaValar1: Namarie, Idril!
Narthais has left the room.
Orodreth V: Alright, unless anyone else has something they forgot..?
Orodreth V: Guess not.
Orodreth V: On to whoever else is next. :-P
ArPharazonV: Gaming! Featuring: Eonwe!
VardaValar1: Menel also has a web page
Orodreth V: Well, I guess he can go. ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: hmm?
Orodreth V: You had web news?
Orodreth V: /me prods
Orodreth V: Guess Eonwe is going..?
Eonwe Valar: Guess so
Eonwe Valar: Gaming:
VardaValar1: On Menel's page, I'll try to update the WoW Lothar people
tonight : )
Menelvagor Valar: hmm... yes, I did have some webnews.
Eonwe Valar: ok, then back to Menel :}
Menelvagor Valar: well, it's a little late, just about 5 weeks or so...
Menelvagor Valar: but the forum
has had its anniversary as well, start of september
Menelvagor Valar: its 2nd.
FarmerMaggotV: hm, I have gaming news, I can't quite tell if we're there or
ArPharazonV: I think we're back in web, for now
VardaValar1: Sept was also the 7th anniversary of our Encyc
Eonwe Valar: Aye, we went back to web for Menel's report, then we'll be
heading to gaming.
VardaValar1: Then Eonwe was called first for Gaming, unless you guys
need to shift spots around
Eonwe Valar: Check the Games Page for offical anniversary dates on any
of those pages :}
Menelvagor Valar: done with web myself :-)
Eonwe Valar: OK, ready for gaming then?
Eonwe Valar: Gaming:
Eonwe Valar: Arwen wrote this week's Guild
Questing report, but as she appears to be afk right now, I'll
give a quick rundown :}
Eonwe Valar: First, it was Eonwë, Arathorn, and Arwen in Alterac.
Eonwe Valar: Then it was Arwen, Eonwë, and Sauron in Stromgarde.
Eonwe Valar: Then it was Arwen, Eonwë, Arathorn, Varda, and Turin
in Gnomeregan going after the final boss.
Eonwe Valar: Then we went into the Scarlet Monastary far right to get
the book Mythology of the Titans and the Scarlet Key.
Eonwe Valar: and that was it for Guild questing :}
ArPharazonV: ah, the library.. best place to read books, too bad nobody
ever wants to pause there :-)
Eonwe Valar: Aye, it was :}
VardaValar1: Unless you are with a Valar group : )
Eonwe Valar: after it was clear, there was plenty of time for reading :}
VardaValar1: I hit it with a Valar group before, and we did some
reading : )
Eonwe Valar: at least one of us took screenshots of the book pages for
ArPharazonV: oh, that's a nice idea!
VardaValar1: That would be a lot of screenshots
Eonwe Valar: aye
Eonwe Valar: wasn't me though, was Arwen ;}
Eonwe Valar: not sure how many books she got like that.
VardaValar1: (Web: thank you Eonwe for updating the Council Emails on
the Games page!)
ArPharazonV: a list of their locations would be nice to go with it, for
books like those about the troll empires that are connected often lie
in close proximity, and books usually show up where they are most
Eonwe Valar: Anything from you guys over on Europe?
ArPharazonV: well, I wasn't there last week... but I went on my first
MC-raid the Friday before that :-)
VardaValar1: Scarlet Monastery Library : )
ArPharazonV: yes, in this case, Varda ;-)
VardaValar1: Phar can do the book locations page!
Shaggyjoe has entered the room.
Shaggyjoe: aiya, just got off work. : \
VardaValar1: Aiya and Happy 8th Anniversary, Gelmir!
ArPharazonV: oh, that's not a bad idea, actually... if I notice them, I
usually don't anymore since I've read about all of them
Shaggyjoe: Happy 8th anniversary to you as well Varda!
VardaValar1: Then you won't be distracted reading them!
Shaggyjoe: and all of yall : )
ArPharazonV: the only book I know of that I'm missing is one in
Scholomance.... and of course those in instances I haven't visited
Eonwe Valar: Farmer, you had gaming news?
FarmerMaggotV: yep, got a 6600GT =)
FarmerMaggotV: that's it =)
VardaValar1: Now you have to explain it : )
Eonwe Valar: new graphics card?
Eonwe Valar: ok, thought that's what it was :}
Shaggyjoe: Sorry to interupt, any baseball fans, Astros and braves tied
6 /6 in the top of the 16th, Clemens first relief appearance in 20
Eonwe Valar: 256 meg on the card?
VardaValar1: Thanks, Gelmir
Eonwe Valar: or 128?
FarmerMaggotV: 128 I think
Orodreth V: I got 6800, so there. :-P
Eonwe Valar: Just enough for War of
the Ring :}
FarmerMaggotV: lol, I don't have a PCI-E slot
Eonwe Valar: congrats on the graphics card :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news?
Shaggyjoe: war of the ring BW?
Eonwe Valar: War of the RIng the game by Sierra.
VardaValar1: I need the Diablo 2LoD
people's accounts and guild ladder standings!
Eonwe Valar: www.lordoftherings.com
Shaggyjoe: oh that.
Shaggyjoe: Gelmirv Gelm lvl 49 sorc.. not on standing yet.
Shaggyjoe: just started back : )
VardaValar1: What server?
Eonwe Valar: Ah, one more WoW thing. The expansion will be playable at Blizzcon.
Magazines with info on the Expansion will be coming out around that
time as well.
Shaggyjoe: well guys
Shaggyjoe: my roommate, bought wow
Shaggyjoe: and he gave me his 10 day pass
Shaggyjoe: for friends or whatever.
VardaValar1: oh, Gelmir. D2X has Valar standings, starting at level one
VardaValar1: Just need you guys to email me the standings so I can do a
Shaggyjoe: i see
VardaValar1: Blizzard has its ladder, we have ours ; )
Shaggyjoe: I have a question about D2X
VardaValar1: Mainly we need each other's account names so we can game
together : )
Shaggyjoe: I see they fixed farming.
Shaggyjoe: ive been parking my sorc in Channel valar to get people
accounts / toon names while im sleeping
Shaggyjoe: so far its been dead
Shaggyjoe: who's playing?
VardaValar1: We have people playing, but they tend to bypass Valar and
go straight to games
Shaggyjoe: I farmed mephy on norm to get some starting uniques, and
after my first kill the next games dropped only rares and magic items.
Shaggyjoe: do we have a guild game name? arda / arda?
VardaValar1: Unfortunately, D2X no longer goes automatically to the
VardaValar1: Same as always, aye
Shaggyjoe: right right
VardaValar1: I'm using Varda-(Valar). Ancient account
VardaValar1: Finarfin, Thorondor, I think Isildur are all playing
VardaValar1: Thorondor will beat us all if we don't watch it!
VardaValar1: Arathorn played some
Shaggyjoe: I wish my Gelmir-(V) was still around
VardaValar1: Arathorn now has a job, so we can all try to catch up to
Shaggyjoe: its like having an elder tag with -(V)
VardaValar1: Right : )
VardaValar1: We still have some playing SC/BW and WC2 and WC3/TFT
VardaValar1: We need you guys to pop into Valar channel
VardaValar1: There are lots of us, we need to let each other know we
Shaggyjoe: I dont have WC3 installed atm. I cnat find my discs, but ive
got the expansion disc ... : \
Shaggyjoe: and my 30 gig HD is full lol had to uninstall Doom 3 to
VeGeTaBLeMaN N N has entered the room.
VeGeTaBLeMaN N N: hi guys
VardaValar1: Aiya Veg : )
Orodreth V: Doom 3 is fun.
Orodreth V: I might be getting back to TFT, presuming I can find my CD.
Shaggyjoe: well lemme look for my wc 3 cd.
VardaValar1: If we can collect 10 active, we'll reopen the WC3/TFT
Eonwe Valar: Well, if there's no more gaming news, we can move to
VardaValar1: but you need to use guild names so we recognize each other
VardaValar1: Phar, you are Tolkien mod : )
ArPharazonV: ah, ok then
ArPharazonV: I'm overwhelmed by the great multitude of topics you have
VardaValar1: How many?
ArPharazonV: 2, both by you :-)
ArPharazonV: anyway, the topic for today:
VardaValar1: You guys drop some on him too!
VardaValar1: Snow him under, quick!
ArPharazonV: Gandalf, and his mission on Middle-earth.
What was it? How did he handle it? What was it about him that he
managed to see it through as the others strayed from their paths, and
how did this affect his own?
ArPharazonV: You may start your comments... now!
VardaValar1: Gandalf, as one of the Istari, was supposed to help bring
about the coming of the world of Men.
ArPharazonV: and how was he initially supposed to accomplish this?
ArPharazonV: vanquish its enemies? help its allies retreat to deeper
and further away places?
VeGeTaBLeMaN N N: his mission was to strive with sauron, and attempt to
prevent himi from obtaining complete domination in middle earth
VardaValar1: Gandalf the Grey was supposed to encourage and advise Men
so that they could act on their own and be proper stewards of Arda.
VardaValar1: Gandalf the Grey was not supposed to act directly against
VardaValar1: All the Istari were "nerfed" to prevent direct action.
ArPharazonV: and Gandalf the White? was he different in this respect?
ArPharazonV: if his task was to take over the abandoned tasks of the
others, was he still "nerfed" like them?
VardaValar1: He was alone, the sole Istar to not fall to the wayside.
He was allowed to act more directly, although still in support of Men's
taking the world.
VardaValar1: He was still less than his natural self, but greater than
VardaValar1: Come on you guys. I think you've heard of Gandalf.
Shaggyjoe: yes, you never see gandlaf unleash any direct damaging magic
or force, other than the light he issued to drive off the ringwraths.
ArPharazonV: he attempted to face the Witch-King in direct battle...
would he still have been able or allowed to do this as the Grey?
Shaggyjoe: I belive, aye he still had his powers diminished quite a bit.
Shaggyjoe: I dont believe so.
Eonwe Valar: If Gandalf could face the Balrog, why not the Witch-King?
Shaggyjoe: he did fight off a balrog..
VardaValar1: As the Grey, even his memory was made less
ArPharazonV: yet was the Balrog a direct servant of Sauron?
VardaValar1: Gandalf could have taken the Witch-King, PJ
notwithstanding ; )
Shaggyjoe: nay, the balrog was as broken (in its powers) as the grey
Orodreth V: I don't think the Balrog was controlled by Sauron.
Eonwe Valar: The Balrog was a servant of Morgoth.
ArPharazonV: Gandalf actually did face the Witch-King in the book, at
the Great Gate
Eonwe Valar: It's implied there was a connection in FotR.
ArPharazonV: I don't recall how it ended, let me see...
Eonwe Valar: The Witch King returned to the battlefield because the
Rohirrim had just arrived.
Shaggyjoe: Gah wish I had my books unpacked.
ArPharazonV: ah, yes, indeed.... they faced each other, without a
single display of power except the Witch-King throwing back his hood
and lifting up his blade...
ArPharazonV: and the Lord of the Nazgul returned to battle without
doing something as silly as breaking Gandalf's staff
VardaValar1: Aye, the Balrog was not "controlled" by Sauron, more like
VardaValar1: Sauron had been Morgoth's right hand before, and the
Balrogs served Morgoth.
ArPharazonV: right, but that does not put the Balrogs under Sauron's
direct control, unlike the Orcs
ArPharazonV: and not even all of the Orcs were under Sauron's control
Shaggyjoe: If that balrog had been under saurons control would sauron
not have had the balrog within his domain?
Eonwe Valar: Sauron was Morgoth's second in command. That should hold
some influence with the Balrog.
Shaggyjoe: I know I would have.
ArPharazonV: Sauron's power might have been greater than it had been in
the First Age, but he did not have as much control as his old master
Eonwe Valar: Why? the Balrog kept Dwarves out of Moria
Eonwe Valar: Just like Smaug kept Dwarves out of Erebor.
VardaValar1: Sauron was making good use of the Balrog
Orodreth V: The Balrog, once woken, would have kept the Orcs out too.
Eonwe Valar: It weakened the overall war effort against him to have
those two where they were.
VardaValar1: And Sauron intended to have all M-e
Shaggyjoe: I see.
VardaValar1: The Balrog worked with the Orcs, and did not drive them out
VardaValar1: Losing Smaug was a blow against Sauron
Orodreth V: That's becasue it was asleep until a certian hobbit woke it
Orodreth V: As I understood it.
VardaValar1: Smaug was already awake and dangerous
VardaValar1: He was merely content as he felt unthreatened on his gold
ArPharazonV: yet Bilbo enflamed the rage within him, making him strike
out at Esgaroth to teach them a lesson
VardaValar1: The northern war is little mentioned in LotR because
hobbits were not involved any more, but had Smaug still been there, it
would have gone much worse!
ArPharazonV: had Smaug taken out Esgaroth, and perhaps the Hobbit as
well, he would have gone back to rest on his hoard
VardaValar1: But Bilbo changed the course of history by noticing
VardaValar1: and passing it on
VardaValar1: Thus Bard was able to kill Smaug
Shaggyjoe: What became of Bard?
Shaggyjoe: Has he no mention in LoTR?
VeGeTaBLeMaN N N: he died as king and his son succeeded him
GwaihirValar: I believe a secondary part of Gandalf and the other
Istari's mission was to remove those traces of Morgoth's power still
left in Arda, such as the Balrog of Moria. This would explain why, even
from the start, he suggested Moria
GwaihirValar: as their path
GwaihirValar: He was being 'pushed' there, so to speak.
VardaValar1: Gandalf did win vs the Balrog
ArPharazonV: yes, he won... but lost his mortal life...
ArPharazonV: and was returned... was that his fate all along?
VardaValar1: I doubt it
VeGeTaBLeMaN N N: I dont believe the witch king compared on gandalf and
the balrogs level at all..
VardaValar1: If the other Istari had been operating, he might have been
allowed to remain in Valinor
Eonwe Valar: all nine together without Sauron having the ring were a
match for Gandalf the Grey.
VardaValar1: The Witch King was nothing next to the Maiar, aye
VardaValar1: The Nine could not take Gandalf at Weathertop
ArPharazonV: was it part of his task to die against that which he had
been fated to face, only coming back to find his power grown to
accomodate his newer tasks?
VardaValar1: Phar, I don't think so
VardaValar1: Gandalf was very tired by the time he had to face the
Eonwe Valar: It wasn't in the brochure when he accepted the job.
GwaihirValar: Because, while Men were able to handle the affairs in the
War on Sauron with only guidance and a little help, I don't believe
they could have stood against a balrog... and the Valar knew this, so
the Maiar were sent
GwaihirValar: for two purposes, to rouse their strength against Sauron,
and to prevent those things which would have ruined that strength from
VardaValar1: All those things that were left from the Ancient World had
to be dealt with, to let Men rule.
VardaValar1: Well said, Gwaihir
ArPharazonV: so the Istari were sent to actually deal with Smaug and
the Balrog in the first place...
ArPharazonV: and deal they did, though it should have been done with
less sacrifice, if Gandalf hadn't been as tired as he was
GwaihirValar: thank you
VardaValar1: Not exactly. Just on the side
Shaggyjoe: I think the Istari wernt send directly for that purpose, but
Shaggyjoe: thank you varda.
GwaihirValar: it wasn't so much how tired Gandalf was... more of that
he had no help
ArPharazonV: well, allright, but still
Shaggyjoe: I was trying to word it
VardaValar1: I can wreck the wording for you, np ;-)
GwaihirValar: he was taking the weight of all five of the Istari
GwaihirValar: which wore him down a great deal more
VardaValar1: Right. Gandalf was not supposed to be so alone
ArPharazonV: ah, there's something... if the other Istari had been at
his side, Gandalf would have taken the the Balrog easier, so to speak
ArPharazonV: that kinda completes the circle
Shaggyjoe: Had the other Istari been there the entire war would have
turned out differently.
Shaggyjoe: What if one had gone with Frodo and sam?
ArPharazonV: he lost the other Istari, so he died... he died, so he
came back with greater powers... he came back with greater powers, so
he was able to cover for all the Istari...
VardaValar1: Yet the lack of so many Istari also allowed the people of
Middle-earth to truly shine.
ArPharazonV: pretty nice circle
Shaggyjoe: I belive in the lack of support, ..
Shaggyjoe: jumping me again varda.
Shaggyjoe: Houston just one
VardaValar1: Gandalf was trying to go with Frodo
Shaggyjoe: Longest post season game in history.
VardaValar1: I'm still rooting for the Astros, Gelmir ; )
Shaggyjoe: aye, I wasnt jumping on you, I meant you took what I wanted
to say, sumed it up, and said it faster. :)
VardaValar1: Ohh, new smiley!
Shaggyjoe: erm houston just won*
VardaValar1: Go Houston!
Shaggyjoe: 7 to 6
Shaggyjoe: 338 line drive home run to left.
VardaValar1: Close game!
Eonwe Valar: Well, Gandalf still may have died even if all 5 had been
there. The other 4 would've continued on with the Fellowship as Gandalf
got dragged into the Abyss by the Balrog's whip.
VardaValar1: The Balrog might not have had the chance to do that to
VardaValar1: The others would have been at him as well
Eonwe Valar: 5 Istari in the group means 4 members in the Fellowship as
we know it wouldn't have been there.
Shaggyjoe: 4 more Istari would have changed the councils descisions as
ArPharazonV: indeed, and if Saruman had been on the good side, they
would not even have needed to enter Moria... but there's fate for ya
Eonwe Valar: No Merry or Pippin most likely
Eonwe Valar: Boromir would've likely been another cut
VardaValar1: I doubt all the Istari would have gone with the
VardaValar1: They seemed to have specific jobs
VeGeTaBLeMaN N N has left the room.
VardaValar1: Veggie crashed
ArPharazonV: indeed, and it was Gandalf's specific task to wander and
aid the littler people as he did...
Shaggyjoe: afk un momento, Im starving and imma toss some wings in the
VardaValar1: Same way Oro did
Eonwe Valar: Well then it wouldn't matter in that particular instance
how many Istari were still good, because Gandalf would've still been
the only Istar there.
VardaValar1: Balrog wings?...
Shaggyjoe: that would be an interesting menu name
VeGeTaBLeMaN N N has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: still, Eonwe, if Saruman had not gone baddy, they would
not even have needed to pass the Balrog to reach their southern goals
Shaggyjoe: for a tolkien theme'd resturant.
VardaValar1: Welcome back : )
Shaggyjoe: no back, cant get up : P
Shaggyjoe: aye, and then what of the balrog?
Shaggyjoe: He would not have been dealt with
VeGeTaBLeMaN N N: he may h ave assumed power after saurons demise
VardaValar1: Come back with the Gondorian army for clean-up, along with
ArPharazonV: they might have waited until Sauron was defeated, and gone
back up north to take it out with greater strength
Eonwe Valar: aye, but they would've been further north, and harder for
Frodo to make his way to MOrodr when Boromir fell.
Shaggyjoe: therefore proving my point that the Istari we not sent to
deal with it directly. More of an interdirect fight.
VardaValar1: The Balrogs were not good organizers
Eonwe Valar: *Mordor
VardaValar1: Sauron was brilliant at organizing
VardaValar1: Right, Gelmir. The Istari were intended to be indirect
ArPharazonV: if Sauron was defeated, would the Orcs of Moria, or the
Balrog himself, be lessened in power in any way?
VardaValar1: Gandalf could not allow the Balrog to kill the Ringbearer,
VardaValar1: Very much, Phar
Eonwe Valar: The Andiun makes a convenient divide between the Free
Peoples and the lands under Sauron's influence.
VardaValar1: The Orcs among themselves discussed making their own
little bands of bandits
ArPharazonV: so if they had gone back through the Gap of Rohan, secured
Saruman's aid, and taken out Sauron... they could easily have gone back
for the Balrog
VardaValar1: The Balrog was not an organizer, and would have been more
of a local terror.
VardaValar1: Not easily
ArPharazonV: well, easier
VardaValar1: Moria would have expected an attack
VardaValar1: It would have costed many lives
Shaggyjoe: Think of the balrog as an Independant evil.
VardaValar1: Or a really good cave-in
Eonwe Valar: heh, I can imagine the Balrog running out from Moria every
week yelling *booga booga boogs* :}
Eonwe Valar: *booga
VardaValar1: The dwarves would have been upset at men for the cave-in :
Shaggyjoe: He was lazy
Eonwe Valar: (local terror)
ArPharazonV: hmm... they could not grow food in Moria, right? so they
could just have starved out the Orcs if they had control over the rest
VardaValar1: Good for our vacation spot page? ; )
Shaggyjoe: with that tunnel network?!
VeGeTaBLeMaN N N: Suppose Cirdan gave the Ring of Fire to Saruman
Shaggyjoe: LOL indeed varda!
VardaValar1: mushrooms? They had to be getting supplies somewhere
Eonwe Valar: Orcs would've started eating eachother
ArPharazonV: that wouldn't be enough for them to survive utterly, Eonwe
Shaggyjoe: I would think the trolls would have ate the orcs, and caused
VardaValar1: Raise eatable orcs on one level, supplemented by other
ArPharazonV: cannibalism isn't enough for a species to survive without
aid from the outside
VardaValar1: Tell guppies... Depends on how fast and how many they make
VardaValar1: But they did have a system already in place for supplies
Eonwe Valar: The Dwarves and Orcs fought under the mountains of the
world for a pretty long time.
Eonwe Valar: has to be something down there edible.
Shaggyjoe: I doubt man could have blocked off all access to the outside
world from the orcs.
ArPharazonV: well, we don't know how many exits Moria truly has...
Shaggyjoe: Immagine how vast the tunnels would have streched.
VardaValar1: Lots of Orc raiding parties were out there
ArPharazonV: it's not about the stretching tunnels, or the huge
caverns... it's about the exits
Eonwe Valar: If the orcs got real hungry, they'd have Watcher soup.
Shaggyjoe: I think I will write a story about a rouge Orc band after
the fall of sauron.
VardaValar1: Eregion was open to them
VeGeTaBLeMaN N N: i think the watcher would have orc soup
Eonwe Valar: so you're writing a tale aboutred orcs?
VardaValar1: Send it to me, Gelmir, and I'll put it up : )
Shaggyjoe: I still havnt contributed liek I wanted too.
Eonwe Valar: *about
ArPharazonV: if the Free Peoples could defeat Sauron, they would not
have all too much trouble clearing the bulk of the Misty Mountains, and
sealing in all known exits
Shaggyjoe: There is very little content on orcs.
Eonwe Valar: *about red
Shaggyjoe: they would be very fun
VardaValar1: The Watcher and the Orcs must have had some kind of
Shaggyjoe: because I could go in many directions.
Shaggyjoe: The Watcher was a king in his domain
Shaggyjoe: The orcs were his minions.
ArPharazonV: yet he would be no match for the Balrog, I think :-)
ArPharazonV: although they were technically to very different creatures
VardaValar1: The Balrog and Watcher would probably remain separate.
Fire and water
Eonwe Valar: Yeah, the last thing anyone wants is a slimy Balrog.
ArPharazonV: what happened to the Moria-orcs anyway, after Sauron's
Shaggyjoe: There is little mention
Shaggyjoe: Im sure they were hunted
Shaggyjoe: by the rangers ect.
Shaggyjoe: Which is what ill research and base my story on.
Shaggyjoe: Im excited.
VeGeTaBLeMaN N N: perhaps moria we retaken by the dwarves in the end
Shaggyjoe: I got that creative writing spark
ArPharazonV: then why could that not have happened in our alternate
MyCantalopeH8tsU has entered the room.
VardaValar1: I would have loved to see the dwarves retake Moria
VardaValar1: Aiya : )
ArPharazonV: if the only added problem was the Balrog, it could not
have held the Free Peoples back for all too long
Shaggyjoe: mm.. Cantalope....
VardaValar1: Perhaps they would have if things went right
VardaValar1: But it was the time of Men, not Dwarves
ArPharazonV: and didn't Durin the seventh take Moria after all, or was
that just a legend?
Shaggyjoe: I think with what happened moria would never be taken back.
Kind of the forbidden place.. a painful memory to the pride of all
Shaggyjoe: At the height of the dwarves they fell so low.
Shaggyjoe: Must have been painful for aule as well
Shaggyjoe: and a blow to his pride for his creation.
ArPharazonV: Durin VII: son of Thorin III... let's see if it says
something about his accomplishments
Shaggyjoe: I say pride alot, because I see the dwarves as being one of
the most prideful races. Which was in turn their greatest flaw.
Shaggyjoe: ill be back, My backbone is being eaten.
VardaValar1: I have a cushion pile to draw from, fortunately
VardaValar1: Rest : )
ArPharazonV: oh, wait, Durin wasn't a son of Thorin.... it's multiple
dashes instead of one straight one
VardaValar1: Those rascally dashes
ArPharazonV: but I still recall Durin VII retaking Moria... just not
sure where I read it
Shaggyjoe: I seem to recall mention of the dwarves never going back to
moria.. so we are both arguing from hearsay.
Eonwe Valar: Try book 12 of HoME for more info on Dwarves
Eonwe Valar: anyone happen to have it?
Shaggyjoe: I dont even have the sil anymore
Shaggyjoe: : (
ArPharazonV: ...not here directly with me, I think
VardaValar1: Aye, they did not go back to Moria
VardaValar1: Get another, Gelmir ; )
ArPharazonV: let's see... 5, 6, 7.... no 12
VardaValar1: Excuse to have one that isn't all ratty!
ArPharazonV: ah! here it is!
Eonwe Valar: ok, I'll check mine then
VardaValar1: But if it had not caved in
VardaValar1: I wonder
ArPharazonV: here's it:
ArPharazonV: "And the line of Dain prospered, and the wealth and renown
of the kingship was renewed, until there arose again for the last time
an heir of that House that bore the name of Durin, and he returned to
ArPharazonV: and there was light again in deep places, and the ringing
of hammers and the harping of harps, until the world grew old and the
Dwarves failed and the days of Durin's race were ended."
ArPharazonV: unfortunately, the passage was lost from the appendix
before it entered RotK... but I don't think there's anything
contradicting it directly
VardaValar1: oh wow
VardaValar1: Where is it written?
Shaggyjoe: indeed, where?
VardaValar1: The days of Durin's race were ended? That sounds ominous
ArPharazonV: HoME part 12, first reference of Durin VII in the Index
ArPharazonV: the making of appendix A
VardaValar1: I am going to go to the bookstore. I am going to go to the
Shaggyjoe: positive its Durin the VII?
VeGeTaBLeMaN N N: Or they just sunk into seclusion
ArPharazonV: (IV) Durin's Folk
VardaValar1: That's Peoples of Middle-earth?
ArPharazonV: yup :-)
Shaggyjoe: AFK going to the book store.
VardaValar1: I am going to go to the bookstore!
VardaValar1: Silly people are closed Sunday
Shaggyjoe: its closed.
ArPharazonV: I knew I read it somewhere...
FarmerMaggotV: everything's closed on Sunday up here, except the convenience
Shaggyjoe: Bah. Well +1 to you sir.
ArPharazonV: and for once, I actually know where I did ;-)
VardaValar1: I love that
VardaValar1: You may now write a dwarf article!
ArPharazonV: I might, I might...
Shaggyjoe: bah I must log on DAOC
Shaggyjoe: ML4 raid
Shaggyjoe: leaving now
Shaggyjoe: ill stay to log this, and might pop back in
VardaValar1: you must?
Shaggyjoe: I will write that story.
VardaValar1: Sauron is on WoW, by the way
VardaValar1: I'll read it!
VardaValar1: Merry and Turin are also on WoW
VardaValar1: Sauron and Merry, in a party. Boggles the mind
Shaggyjoe: what levels?
Shaggyjoe: I wonder if I can use my free ten day pass to re-activate my
Eonwe Valar: nope
Eonwe Valar: Beta accounts were wiped for the US.
VardaValar1: New guys get a free one month : )
VardaValar1: Come to Lothar.....
VardaValar1: Please use your guild name ; )
ArPharazonV: or Argent Dawn if you buy the European version :-)
Shaggyjoe: but its his game, I have 10 day free trial.
VardaValar1: You can try
VardaValar1: Will only hurt your tailbone : )
VardaValar1: Characters stay in the database for months
Eonwe Valar: aye, if you use the 10-day pass to make a character, then
decide to buy the game, you will be able to activate your trial account
using the retail account and keep all your characters.
VardaValar1: Nice touch
Eonwe Valar: er, retail key
VardaValar1: The dwarves need more discussion
VardaValar1: We'll have to go into them more deeply in the future, for
Shaggyjoe: Most defineatly.
VardaValar1: Gelmir, for your story, did you want us to consider
anything about Orcs?
Shaggyjoe: will I still get a free 30 days?
VardaValar1: We have some stuff on the Encyc
VardaValar1: Should get 30 days with your retail, I think
Eonwe Valar: aye
ArPharazonV: yes, you will, Gelmir... but you'll need to activate some
other form of payment before you can start the free month
VardaValar1: Then it's cheapest to buy in blocks of time instead of
Eonwe Valar: so if you use the 10 day pass and buy the retail, you get
a total of 40 "free" days.
Eonwe Valar: aye, either game card or credit card.
ArPharazonV: for example, if you pick gamecards, you'll have to
activate one from the start.... but it'll give you 3 months ;-)
VeGeTaBLeMaN N N: brb
VardaValar1: brb will scroll. Really nice job as a Tolkien mod, Phar!
ArPharazonV: thanks... although I didn't do much :-)
VardaValar1: You kept it going well
ArPharazonV: you've all been a great audience ;-)
ArPharazonV: hmm... the bridge also connects to IRC, right?
ArPharazonV: what channel?
FarmerMaggotV: uh, it might be in IRC
FarmerMaggotV: it's not tested as nobody's ever used it
FarmerMaggotV: info was (and I think is) on the news page
ArPharazonV: I recently installed Emule, and apparently this has IRC
ArPharazonV: oh well, I'll have to check it out in the future then...
VeGeTaBLeMaN N N has left the room.
ArPharazonV: getting something to drink :-)
VardaValar1: We did test it before
VardaValar1: The last time I tried it, the IRC thing did not work but
it was a while back
VardaValar1: on WoW, Fosco asked if there was an electronic version of
LotR he could read from his Microsoft Reader gadget
Eonwe Valar: Think I'll grab a drink as well.
VardaValar1: I looked it up but found nothing
VardaValar1: The only info I could find suggested there was none, due
to fear of piracy
VardaValar1: I suspect that fear is right, unfortunately
Eonwe Valar: Sure there is. It's called the Valar Guild Tolkien
VardaValar1: If any of you know of something like an Audio book or other
VardaValar1: He is trying to finish the LotR, but prefers reading on
VardaValar1: Reverse of my preference, but it's easy to carry and he
likes the lighted page
VardaValar1: The Encyc is out of chronological order : )
ArPharazonV: chronological order, you say? now there's something...
VardaValar1: Trying to dig out info on any one character or even
scattered through all of Tolkien's books might be considered putting it
in order, in another way.
VardaValar1: A sentence here, a sentence there. Tolkien really makes us
mine for it!
ArPharazonV: Let's just not mine too greedily nor too deep... you know
what it did for the Dwarves
VardaValar1: Too late
VardaValar1: We have Balrog articles
Eonwe Valar: Ah, but we mine for knowledge, and you see what it did to
Eonwe Valar: back btw :}
VardaValar1: Namo, knows so much and is allowed to tell so little
Eonwe Valar: Chooses to tell so little :}
VardaValar1: Manwe lets him know what Eru wants to reveal
VardaValar1: Namo does seem a bit closed-mouth though, aye : )
Eonwe Valar: We are looking for knowledge, and knowledge can be a good
ArPharazonV: is it really knowledge that is the good thing, or the
possible things we use it for?
VardaValar1: We need a great deal of it, so we can come up with new
ideas : )
VardaValar1: Both are good
VardaValar1: Need one to do the other well.
ArPharazonV: for example, what we do with knowledge might also be bad
things... does that mean knowledge in itself is good or neutral?
Eonwe Valar: The pursuit of knowledge is good.
Eonwe Valar: the use of knowledge can be good or evil.
VardaValar1: A rock may be used to build or to stone a person.
ArPharazonV: now there's a nice comparison
VardaValar1: The rock is just a rock, neither good nor evil.
VardaValar1: Is Veggie gone to try out IRC?
FarmerMaggotV: the 6600GT is awesomely sexy, wootage and a half =D
Eonwe Valar: hmm, I don't usually find my hardware attractive, but
VardaValar1: Does that mean you'll be gaming with us soon? :-)
ArPharazonV: how sweet, Farmer's in love... with a piece of a computer
VardaValar1: He didn't say "love" ; )
ArPharazonV: meh, close enough
Eonwe Valar: hmm now that reminds me of some stuff I've seen.
VardaValar1: A more fabulous card comes along, and off he goes. : )
Eonwe Valar: *dresses his 256 Meg ATI radeon card in Amish clothes*
FarmerMaggotV: whatchya guys play for intensive games?
VardaValar1: WoW, duh :-) Some play DAoC
ArPharazonV: I play BfME from time to time
FarmerMaggotV: heh, unfort WoW is pay by month
VardaValar1: Or by 6 months
xxchi1dxx has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: by 2 months, for me :-)
ArPharazonV: greetings! who might you be?
FarmerMaggotV: Aiya Lis'!
VardaValar1: Sorry, meeting is pretty much over
FarmerMaggotV: personal friend of mine =)
VardaValar1: Just noticed you on
VardaValar1: We had a nice chat about Gandalf, the Istari, the fate of
VardaValar1: and patting ourselves on the back for our 8th Anniversary
ArPharazonV: the fate of the Dwarves... one might interpret such a
xxchi1dxx: I'm so coooold...
VardaValar1: We need to talk Balrogs again to warm her up
FarmerMaggotV: perhaps that's going too far
xxchi1dxx: I'm a little slow, brain freeze
VardaValar1: Want to grab a cloak or other warm garment? Coffee, hot
VardaValar1: It was under 90 F here today. Nice cool snap
ArPharazonV: a cloak... do people actually use that, anyway?
VardaValar1: I have a couple
VardaValar1: Less bulky than coats
FarmerMaggotV: as an aside, apparently Windows doesn't like it if you move a
HDD with a Windows installation over to an almost completely diff comp
VardaValar1: Eonwe has one ;-)
xxchi1dxx: I'm sitting on the cat, so I'll warm up
ArPharazonV: poor cat...
VardaValar1: You may have to move suddenly
VardaValar1: Don't cats usually sit on you?
FallenGlory has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya : )
VardaValar1: Happy 8th Anniversary
xxchi1dxx: yeah, but this one is too lazy for that
Eonwe Valar: maybe it's a lion :} I wouldn't want one of them sitting
on me either :}
ArPharazonV: how about a Lynx? that would be a cool pet
VardaValar1: Olwe, do you still play CounterStrike/Half-Life?
FallenGlory: Source, just casually
VardaValar1: Wild animals make lousy pets until a few tens of
generations of domestication : )
FarmerMaggotV: ah, cool
FarmerMaggotV: any DoD:S?
FallenGlory: haven't tried it yet
FallenGlory: planning on it some time
FarmerMaggotV: ah, it's fun
FarmerMaggotV: I'll game with you =)
VardaValar1: Please use your guild names : )
FallenGlory: Will do
FallenGlory: I don't play often, so little time for video games these
VardaValar1: Helps recognition everywhere. We have members in
everything, if we only knew
FarmerMaggotV: yeah, tell me about it
VardaValar1: Aye, helps to pick a time to get together
VardaValar1: Maybe after Sunday meetings?
VardaValar1: Do that instead of After-chat : )
VardaValar1: Which we seem to have fallen into
FallenGlory: possibly, though that's usually hardcore homework time
VardaValar1: What's a better time. You do have a point
FallenGlory: this weekend is different because I have tommorow off
FallenGlory: Canadian thanksgiving :-)
VardaValar1: All the procrastinators do homework on Sunday night : )
VardaValar1: Turkey or ham?
FallenGlory: thank you
VardaValar1: I love turkey! Adventure just cooking it!
FallenGlory: but as it stands right now, I'm being summoned to dinner,
FallenGlory: hahahha, I prefer the eating of it myself
VardaValar1: Enjoy for us
ArPharazonV: Namarie then!
FallenGlory: I shall
VardaValar1: Nibbles are good too ; )
VardaValar1: Vaya con Eru
ArPharazonV: Au revoir
VardaValar1: Anyone still here might like to choose up games and join
into them : )
VardaValar1: We have several doing homework
ArPharazonV: I'll be going to bed... have to get up in about 8 hours
VardaValar1: Good time to do it!
Shaggyjoe: what game?
VardaValar1: I'll work online a few hours
VardaValar1: I need to be here in case Veg comes back for a test
VardaValar1: Gelmir wants to game. Any non-afk takers?
VardaValar1: Thought you were headed to DAoC?
VardaValar1: Anyone notice that the movie remembered to put fingers on
the tentacles for the Watcher in the Water?
VardaValar1: Check it out sometime. Nice job!
ArPharazonV: yup, to have it searching for the Ring, I believe
Eonwe Valar: fingers on the tentacles? don't think I noticed that.
VardaValar1: It was an intelligent being. Used fingers
ArPharazonV: anyway, will be saving and sending
VardaValar1: Thanks, Phar!
VardaValar1: Now you have to watch the movie again : )
VardaValar1: or that scene : )
VardaValar1: It's in the book, canon
VardaValar1: 14 people still here
VardaValar1: We need an article on the Watcher in the Water
ArPharazonV: Namarie all§
VardaValar1: Sweet dreams1
ArPharazonV: thanks... hopefully not as strange as the ones I had in
VardaValar1: If strange, may they be fun!
ArPharazonV: I was engaged to be married in one of them...
VardaValar1: Definitely interesting, anyway : )
VardaValar1: France is considered a place of romance
ArPharazonV: can't remember the last time I was as happy in real life
as I felt in that dream... oh well
VardaValar1: Something to look forward to : )
ArPharazonV: yep, it was... I almost fell in love with 3 different
girls from my group, at once
ArPharazonV: very strange week, this was
VardaValar1: Yipe! : )
ArPharazonV: one of them was the one I was engaged to in my dream ;-)
Eonwe Valar: OK, no going to France with more than one girl for you
now, Phar :}
VardaValar1: Or maybe it's his only protection!
aranfinwe: heh, the real question is whether he was in any of THEIR
VardaValar1: hehe - aye Finwe!
Eonwe Valar: and more specifically, were any of them engaged to him in
their dreams? :}
Eonwe Valar: or more importantly, do they start dreaming when looking
at him? :}
aranfinwe: sorry bout afkishness, but been pretty busy today at work
VardaValar1: Expected : )
ArPharazonV: oh well, Namarie... time to see what strange stuff I dream
VardaValar1: Happy Anniversary, Finwe : )
Eonwe Valar: Safe dreams :}
aranfinwe: happy anniversary to you as well
aranfinwe: and sleep well, Phar
ArPharazonV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Thanks for being at the meetings so often despite
adversity, Finwe. Like being at work!
aranfinwe: lol, glad to do so
VardaValar1: Anyone who comes has to fight something. Work is a toughie
VardaValar1: : )
VardaValar1: Anyone know if Veg is planning to return?
aranfinwe: can't say that I do
VardaValar1: So, what can you tell us about Finwe? Is he an Elf you'd
like to meet in real life?
VardaValar1: Might be interesting to listen to one of Feanor's talks,
but not someone to invite to tea : )
aranfinwe: main thing is...
aranfinwe: don't want any future kids of mine turning out like Feanor
VardaValar1: If he hadn't been so full of himself, he'd have been
Menelvagor Valar has left the room.
aranfinwe: that arrogance will get you in trouble almost every time
VardaValar1: Too bad it got so many others in trouble too
aranfinwe: maybe he should've been spanked more growing up :-)
VardaValar1: You were too gentle with him ; )
Eonwe Valar: Every Elf who wnet with him suffered the same problem as
Fëanor, just they didn't have his ability.
VardaValar1: And those in his way could be run over, like the Teleri
aranfinwe: there weren't too many who survived the trials his deeds put
VardaValar1: or irritate him, like Fingolfin's folk
Eonwe Valar: Plenty of Noldor swallowed their pride and returned to
Valinor after the Kinslaying.
VardaValar1: Aye. I wonder if they would have without a great leader to
take them back
VardaValar1: Suppose Feanor would have kept them otherwise?
aranfinwe: was thinking more of those who followed him further east
VardaValar1: We are picking on everone! : )
MyCantalopeH8tsU has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: So, Finarfin was a great leader?
Eonwe Valar: He was a prince, but aside from his return to Aman,
nothing else about his actions really stands out.
VardaValar1: He was able to hold his pride in better check than some
VardaValar1: Peacemaker despite provocation
Eonwe Valar: So was Fingolfin, but he didn't turn back.
VardaValar1: Finarfin had the ability to turn back
VardaValar1: He refused to be led farther into evil
Eonwe Valar: Then what about Fingolfin? Was he a weaker leader for
following Fëanor, knowing what Fëanor was like?
aranfinwe: this discussion might be best for next Sunday :-)
VardaValar1: but you are handy now : )
VardaValar1: In a way, yes
aranfinwe: ie - I'm curious as to what the others might have to say :-)
VardaValar1: me too
VardaValar1: So often, only a few speak even with many in the list as
aranfinwe: as for my handiness now, it's almost time for me to close up
VardaValar1: afk, or don't speak
Eonwe Valar: ok, I'll try to remember then :}
aranfinwe: heh, if I'm free, I'll try to bring it up
VardaValar1: I can leave it in the transcript
VardaValar1: We can go back and check what we were talking about : )
VardaValar1: You guys ever look at the transcripts? I mean, you are
here live already
Eonwe Valar: I do
aranfinwe: I might not be able to contribute much (we've been busier
last couple of Sundays then normal), but I should at least be able to
look over discussion
VardaValar1: cool : )
VardaValar1: Main thing is to enjoy it : )
Eonwe Valar: but then I wonder if there's any guild page I don't read
at some point :}
VardaValar1: I read them because I put them up or contribute to them
VardaValar1: Others would not have that reason, so I wondered
VardaValar1: I try to put all article info on the News
aranfinwe: lol, I try to follow things up, but my job's keeping me
occupied close to 60 hours a week lately
VardaValar1: The Stories and Poems have their own what's new pages, as
well as using the News
VardaValar1: That's a lot of hours
VardaValar1: So I wondered if you guys might want a What's New for the
aranfinwe: he's at least paying me extra for it :-)
VardaValar1: Love it when that happens : )
aranfinwe: a What's New is always handy
VardaValar1: Suppose the News page is not enough for it then?
VardaValar1: I could do it. Not hard.
VardaValar1: If it's useful, why not? : )
aranfinwe: well, it sounds like you get little enough sleep as is :-)
Eonwe Valar: afk for a few minutes
VardaValar1: Kind of depressing when it shows no contibutions for a
month or two
VardaValar1: I do it for the Stories and Poems. Could do it for Articles
VardaValar1: Hmm, no Finwe under Authors....
aranfinwe: actually, my primary thinking was of Articles
VardaValar1: Must pick on him
VardaValar1: I already do it for those two, so it could also be done
aranfinwe: see above comments on work :-)
VardaValar1: I know : )
VardaValar1: Some articles are like one line
VardaValar1: Salmar made Ulmo's horns.
aranfinwe: just read something interesting....
Orodreth V: I authored a short story. So there.
aranfinwe: sounds like Peter Jackson's team has another project to work
VardaValar1: Yay Oro!
VardaValar1: King Kong? Hobbit? Which?
Orodreth V: Halo?
VardaValar1: Movie or game?
Orodreth V: PJ likes his fantasy.
aranfinwe: Movie based on the game :-)
VardaValar1: Doom is coming out, I believe, as a movie
Orodreth V: Yea
Orodreth V: Oct 27th or so.
VardaValar1: Vin Diesel?
aranfinwe: I think I'm gonna stay away from that one
aranfinwe: the Rock
xxchi1dxx: >< oh garbagem don't go to any links i send you guys,
Orodreth V: Looks like it'll be poorly done.
xxchi1dxx has left the room.
VardaValar1: 'The Rock
FarmerMaggotV: hm, there's an AIM worm going around
VardaValar1: oh no
Orodreth V: Serenity was wonderful though.
VardaValar1: I loved Serenity : )
aranfinwe: yes, Serenity was very good
aranfinwe: I need to get Firefly DVDs darnit
VardaValar1: If it does well, they plan to make 2 more
Orodreth V: /me flaunts his
VardaValar1: We got them, they were very good
FarmerMaggotV: so, make sure to be careful about links people send you, and
don't run them if it downloads something
VardaValar1: Some of the episodes never hit TV
Orodreth V: Stupid Fox.
Orodreth V: :-\
VardaValar1: That's one reason we were considering the paid-for
aranfinwe: will keep it in mind
Orodreth V: I have yet to get a worm/virus/whatever.
FarmerMaggotV: me either Oro
VardaValar1: Any way to block the evil AIM thing?
aranfinwe: not only that, but they ran episodes out of order from what
VardaValar1: Right, they did
Orodreth V: And up until this year, I had no firewall/ect.
VardaValar1: They ran the pilot last!
FarmerMaggotV: Varda: could run something other than AIM, like http://gaim.sf.net/
FarmerMaggotV: and I'd recommend running Microsoft Antispyware either way heh
Orodreth V: I just never used outlook and was smart about what I
aranfinwe: but movie was still good, despite having no exposure to show
VardaValar1: Aye, Veg wants us to move to IRC. Alatar wants us to move
FarmerMaggotV: hm, IRC isnt' a bad choice
Orodreth V: Worst part about the movie was killing Book.
VardaValar1: We used to use mIRC
Orodreth V: :'(
aranfinwe: heh, who wants b.net? :-)
VardaValar1: I use Bnet
VardaValar1: That was evil
VardaValar1: I don't want to tell spoilers
Orodreth V: Oops.
VardaValar1: But the other one killed got me even worse.
Orodreth V: >.>
VardaValar1: We do use Bnet
VardaValar1: Public Channel Valar
Orodreth V: Yea.
aranfinwe: my accts for D2 and SC are looooooooooooooooong dead
Orodreth V: "I claim this land, and I shall call it...this land!"
VardaValar1: New ones can be made : )
VardaValar1: Quest for 3
aranfinwe: ok, I'll admit ignorance on that quote (tho I still find it
Orodreth V: "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayl!
aranfinwe: or at least forgetfulness :-)
VardaValar1: I like that they left the little dinosaurs, same as the
VardaValar1: Wash quotes, the pilot
Orodreth V: Him and his Dinos.
aranfinwe: I did notice the Dino's at his controls
VardaValar1: He kept dinosaur toys around the pilot's seat
VardaValar1: He played with them when bored and alone
VardaValar1: Embarrassed to be caught at it though
VardaValar1: I do recommend the DVD set : )
Orodreth V: The this land quote is possibly the best part of the pilot
episode, I must say.
Orodreth V: It's just so funny.
aranfinwe: considering some times I feel a hankering for LEGO's (and
VardaValar1: We all cracked up. He did the delivery really well, and it
was funny to start
VardaValar1: We miss our Tyco blocks, the little ones
VardaValar1: Lego took over and are much more expensive
VardaValar1: And the connections aren't as deep, bah!
aranfinwe: Lego's were my addiction when I was living in Norway
VardaValar1: Egad, I really will talk about anything
VardaValar1: Did you bring them back with you?
aranfinwe: well, that and WW2 history (actual history, and not fiction)
aranfinwe: lol, they're still in the garage I think :-)
VardaValar1: History is great stuff
VardaValar1: Ok unpack them!
VardaValar1: I had the advantage of claiming they were for my kids
VardaValar1: Of course my kids are getting about your age...
FallenGlory has left the room.
VardaValar1: Oldest is your age
VardaValar1: Odd, where did the time go? When did I pass 26? : )
aranfinwe: heh, for me it was just a couple of weeks ago :-)
VardaValar1: Congrats on your birthday!
Arwen V1 has left the room.
aranfinwe: I just can't believe I've been out of college for 2 years now
aranfinwe: thanks :-)
VardaValar1: Be sure to look over your stuff from college now and then,
so it won't disappear from your mind
VardaValar1: Oh, I'll never forget that! Have it rock solid! What was
Orodreth V: I'm not into college for another two years.
Orodreth V: :-P
VardaValar1: College is great! Very good time of life
Orodreth V: Oh, Varda, did some more work on the next Ondollo segment a
couple days ago
Orodreth V: ut I can't get any father (again)
VardaValar1: helps to plot ahead, even if you change it as you go
Orodreth V: I expcet it'll be another year :-P
VardaValar1: We need to add onto the rp in the Forum too
VardaValar1: We all turned into WoW addicts
VardaValar1: Odd, all the rp'ers went into WoW : )
Orodreth V: Not I, but I was never part of that RP.
VardaValar1: Right, so that does not count ;-)
VardaValar1: Not that you aren't all invited!
Eonwe Valar: Back
VardaValar1: Welcome back
Eonwe Valar: I suppose I should speed along the journey so that we're
not start, chat, stop, chat, start, etc in the story.
VardaValar1: I don't think we had enough people for a trivia game like
we did in B.net, but could be wrong about that
VardaValar1: We got the Haran story handled, need to mount up and head
VardaValar1: Wonder how many of us will go into LotRO
VardaValar1: If the WoW group is bored, it might do well
aranfinwe: dunno if I will - I have yet to do a monthly service game
VardaValar1: Might happen as everyone hits 60 and finishes the high
Eonwe Valar: I intend to buy it. How much time I'll spend there I'm not
sure, but WoW will have to be my primary focus.
VardaValar1: WoW should keep us for a good while yet : )
aranfinwe: I'd prollly have gotten WoW, but I'm worried about some
other payments first
VardaValar1: WoW will still be there for some time : )
Eonwe Valar: I'd like to think we could set roots and have branches in
both without canabalizing eachother.
VardaValar1: I may not have a comp that can run LotRO from the way they
talk about it
aranfinwe: I'm trying not to get too excited about having maybe 6
months on my car left at most :-)
VardaValar1: I fear it would be cannibalized, due to the monthly pay.
It's what happened to EQ
VardaValar1: That does sound good, Finwe!
VardaValar1: The monthly pay comes out much like a magazine
subscription : )
aranfinwe: yah, I could use that almost 400/mon :-)
VardaValar1: Hopefully not for repairs
aranfinwe: afkish, cleaning up store in prep for leaving
VardaValar1: good plan
VardaValar1: I've got things running too
VardaValar1: Eonwe has homework
aranfinwe: one thing I DON'T miss from school :-)
Eonwe Valar: I didn't and won't miss it either :}
Orodreth V: bugger
Orodreth V: can't find wc3 cd
Orodreth V: and knowing me, it's dead then
Eonwe Valar: I'll miss tests even less.
Orodreth V: Mmm.
Orodreth V: Oooh.
Orodreth V: forgot.
Eonwe Valar: 3 of my classes decided to pick the exact same day for
Orodreth V: Need to read Livy tomorrow.
Orodreth V: Frogott o bring the book home over the weekend.
Orodreth V: So I'll have to read it while we're discussing it.
Orodreth V: Eonwe: But you forget that in highschool half the classes
have tests every Friday.
VardaValar1: More than half for my kids. Plus we often had Wednesdays
Eonwe Valar: MIne never did :}
Orodreth V: Mine does.
Orodreth V: Blah.
Orodreth V: I don't like Livy.
Orodreth V: He uses too many stories.
Orodreth V: Polybius is much better, IMHO.
Orodreth V: /me slaps the slience around a bit with a large trout.
VardaValar1: Fishy business
Orodreth V: ...
VardaValar1: We can use a fish to slap things in WoW
Orodreth V: /me motions to his Frunt Cannon
Orodreth V: Fruit*
Orodreth V: Do you really want me to show you what a rotten joke that
VardaValar1: Nope : )
VardaValar1: Arathorn and I trade them around all the time. Really bad
puns. The master, though, is Merry
VardaValar1: Do you really want to threaten a Valie with a fruit
cannon? : )
Orodreth V: I just needed it as setup for my pun.
Orodreth V: :-P
VardaValar1: Handy : )
Orodreth V: what roman myths are any good?
Orodreth V: The Aenid was more or less a roman ripoff of the odyssey
and the illiad.
Orodreth V: And I didn't like the odyssey to begin with
VardaValar1: Aeneid was to give Roman emperors a claim to divine
ancestry through Troy.
VardaValar1: Many like the Odyssey
VardaValar1: Did you like the Illiad?
Orodreth V: Much so.
VardaValar1: : )
Orodreth V: The characters were much fuller in that.
VardaValar1: How did you feel about the movie, Troy?
VardaValar1: Aye, they were
Orodreth V: Plus I didn't like Odysseus.
Orodreth V: Didn't bother watching it.
Orodreth V: Not that I watch many movies.
Orodreth V: Possibly a hundred in my life.
VardaValar1: Even bit characters in the Illiad only mentioned at death
were given history
VardaValar1: Kind of fun seeing them come off the page as living people
VardaValar1: Troy tried to show how real life might have been turned
into those legends
VardaValar1: Where the ideas might have come from.
VardaValar1: It was not the Iliad, but used info from other books as
well, and some of their own, including history and just their heads to
make it hang together
VardaValar1: Much of the Greek mythology comes down from plays, their
version of movies
aranfinwe: heh, most of the mythology I've read was Norwegian (prolly
more aptly as Scandinavian, but I'll let others decide on that)
VardaValar1: Very good
VardaValar1: And you guys will be contributing to my Folklore &
Mythology page when? :-)
aranfinwe: some Japanese and Greek as well, but primarily Norwegian
VardaValar1: I like Norse myths too. The gods were easier to admire,
more heroic nature
aranfinwe: not tonight at least, I'm at work half an hour late and
still not headed home just yet...
VardaValar1: I certainly don't expect anything tonight! I just meant
ever! : )
aranfinwe: I have to stop by Walmart for some store supplies, and then
head to another store to pick something up for a customer for tomorrow
aranfinwe: and it's been a 10 hour day already
VardaValar1: Do try to get some time in for real life, np : )
aranfinwe: real life? wazzat? :-)
VardaValar1: Fangorn stays at work a week at a time
VardaValar1: Merry used to stay offshore on rigs three months at a time
VardaValar1: That's oil drilling for you
VardaValar1: Not much sleep during those times either
aranfinwe: heh, yeah, my dad was in Navy, so he had a few 6-8 mon.
cruises in there :-)
VardaValar1: Sailors, really long hauls!
VardaValar1: Don't let us hold you, if you are ready to head out from
VardaValar1: We are done, really
Eonwe Valar: It feels so much later than my clock says it is.
VardaValar1: aye, same here!
VardaValar1: Dark earlier now
VardaValar1: Need eyedrops maybe : )
aranfinwe: lol, what I need is Lasik, but I'm not quite able to pay for
it yet :-)
VardaValar1: I don't think Veg will be returning
aranfinwe: if he hasn't yet, then prolly not
VardaValar1: Me either, maybe ever
aranfinwe: and on that note, I shall depart for the evening to finish
my last bit of chores
aranfinwe: or errands, more appropriately
Orodreth V: Yea, I read Prometheus Bound, the Oedipus plays, The
Clouds, The Birds, the Orestes plays, and a few others I can't recall
aranfinwe: namarie :-)
Eonwe Valar: take care Finwë
aranfinwe: same to you
aranfinwe has left the room.
Orodreth V: Plus Herodotus' The Histories..uh..
Orodreth V: The Crito, the Symposium, books 1, 2, 6 and 7 of the
Republic, the Phado, the Ion, the Apology, a couple more of Plato's.
Orodreth V: Parts of Aristotle's collected works
Orodreth V: Some pre-socratic stuff.
VardaValar1: You would freak to look at Merry's collection : )
Orodreth V: doubt it.
Orodreth V: I loved all of that.
VardaValar1: Freak in a good way
Orodreth V: Except for the Odyssey.
Orodreth V: Yarrgh.
VardaValar1: Do you know what bugged you most about the Odyssey?
Orodreth V: And I could have lived without half of the account of the
Peloponesian war. Thucidities.
Orodreth V: Odysseus, possibly.
Orodreth V: And Herodotus' The histories had..uh.. interesting parts in
Orodreth V: But I could have spent the entire year on Plato.
Orodreth V: Heck, I could have done it on the Republic alone.
VardaValar1: You can also read it on your own for fun
Orodreth V: Yea, but I prefer having someone to discuss it with.
Orodreth V: I'm gonna set up an afterschool thinger.
VardaValar1: sounds fun!
VardaValar1: Philosopher's club
Orodreth V: Heh.
Orodreth V: I'll use it to get rid of the dead weight in class.
VardaValar1: Understood, unfortunately
Orodreth V: half the class just sits there for two hours going
VardaValar1: I'll bet teachers wish they could do that
Orodreth V: buhhhhhhhh
Orodreth V: or scribbling on paper/writing notes
VardaValar1: Sort of like our Tolkien talks with only 2 or 3
Orodreth V: depressingly similar, yes
Orodreth V: even though we have double the people
Orodreth V: 14 in my class
VardaValar1: We had 14 today
VardaValar1: Remember 20 being normal in meetings
VardaValar1: We lost people every time we changed chat places
Xseanzee disco has entered the room.
Xseanzee disco has left the room.
Orodreth V: Hi..
Orodreth V: or not
Orodreth V: I see how it is
Eonwe Valar: Aye, he saw we were here and got scared that he might have
to chat Tolkien :}
VardaValar1: noooo : )
VardaValar1: He's able to chat Tolkien if he wants : )
VardaValar1: Might have crashed
Orodreth V: Anyone here read Polybius? Specificly what he said about
the Roman constitution?
VardaValar1: What did he say?
Orodreth V: Alot.
Orodreth V: :-P
Orodreth V: Was looking to discuss it with someone.
Orodreth V: Gwaihir would be sure to disagree with me.
Orodreth V: ...he always does.
Eonwe Valar: Afraid I haven't read it, Orodreth.
VardaValar1: He enjoys playing Devil's advocate with everything : )
Eonwe Valar: Being called to help set up a new computer. Will be afk a
Orodreth V: So do I. :-P
VardaValar1: I don't remember it, probably didn't read. You need to
chat with Merry : )
Xseanzee disco has entered the room.
Xseanzee disco: hoi]\
VardaValar1: Will that mean you brothers will be playing WoW better?
Eonwe Valar: Dad finally realized after somehwere between 6 and 8 years
his computer wasn't cutting it anymore :}
VardaValar1: Happy 8th Anniversary!
VardaValar1: ouch : )
VardaValar1: Good for him
VardaValar1: Have fun!
Eonwe Valar: he would've kept going on with his current one if it had
let him install and run a program he wanted :}
VardaValar1: Makes sense. Scat : )
Eonwe Valar: Windows 98 wouldn't cut it though, and neither would his
processor and RAM :}
Eonwe Valar: ok, afk now :}
Xseanzee disco has left the room.
FINARFIN010 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: We had some more asking about D2X
VardaValar1: Happy 8th Anniversary, Finarfin!
FINARFIN010: thank you
FINARFIN010: i have been playing d2x all week as a mater of fact
VardaValar1: We need account names for Diablo players
VardaValar1: Did you use the Valar channel?
FINARFIN010: i went to Valar channel
VardaValar1: We had a guy hang out in it a lot trying to pick up
VardaValar1: ahh, missing each other
FINARFIN010: do you need my account name
VardaValar1: Way ti goes
VardaValar1: sure, everyone's
VardaValar1: Trying to make a page so we can find fellow D2X'ers
VardaValar1: Varda-(Valar) for mine
FINARFIN010: i recall in the day... we were all d2x players
FINARFIN010: i also play Guild wars
VardaValar1: I recall when we were all D1 players
VardaValar1: We have a number interested in that
FINARFIN010: ahhhhh the elder days.
VardaValar1: If people can use their guild names in the Guild Wars and
other games, we can find each other
VardaValar1: One reason we have guild names
VardaValar1: I probably have your info, but hit me again : )
FINARFIN010: my guild name in guild wars is Finarfin-V
VardaValar1: They have no excuse for not knowing you!
VardaValar1: I am not familiar with that game. Do you need AIM as a
channel for the guild?
FINARFIN010: i do not think so
VardaValar1: So we could have a guild channel there?
VardaValar1: So you type /join Valar like in Bnet or WoW for one?
FINARFIN010: no you have your own guild hall. and can go to it
VardaValar1: So we have to make a guild hall
VardaValar1: Trying to locate our Guild Wars players
FINARFIN010: i believe one is made for you when you request a guild name
VardaValar1: They will all say they already have a guild, heh
VardaValar1: How many people are needed?
FINARFIN010: i am not sure
FINARFIN010: i have never tried to start a guild
VardaValar1: I would guess 8 - 10
FINARFIN010: i will find out and e-mail you with the infor
VardaValar1: That would be great!
VardaValar1: It might be on their page
VardaValar1: I would not be running such a guild
VardaValar1: but if we could get a group together there, it would be
FINARFIN010: hang on i have some info here.
VardaValar1: For all I know, one of us may have already tried to set up
FINARFIN010: \to create a guild the player you pick as a leader speaks
with a guild registar in any major city
VardaValar1: Anybody setting one up, please let central know!
FINARFIN010: type in your guild name. this is the full name of your
guild and must be at least two words long.
FINARFIN010: type in your guild tag. this is an abbreviated version of
your guild name, is sase-sensitive, and must be between two to four
characters. other players will see this tag when viewing your char.
FINARFIN010: Pay 100 gold to the registarar.
FINARFIN010: that in a nut shell is it
FINARFIN010: but members can only belong to one guild at a time
VardaValar1: Does not say how many needed to start?
FINARFIN010: one person can create a guild.
VardaValar1: So they could make more than one character, and each could
be in a diff guild
FINARFIN010: but unless we can get some regular players it is realy not
efficatious to have one
VardaValar1: We have some players, just need to get together
VardaValar1: They go to guild wars and disappear
VardaValar1: Rog-V-ex plays, and asked if we had a guild
VardaValar1: We have a number of players, but they are not organized
FINARFIN010: there 10 regions to play in and you never know which one
you will end up in
VardaValar1: How can a guild group get together then?
FINARFIN010: well you can talk to anyone regardless
VardaValar1: Eonwe is trying to update the Games page so we can see who
is in each game
VardaValar1: But to play together?
FINARFIN010: has it realy been 8 years
FINARFIN010: my my my!!
FINARFIN010: you said it girl.
VardaValar1: Did you get a Games page update email from Eonwe?
VardaValar1: So you are all set : )
VardaValar1: We can see if we can get a Guild Wars group together
FINARFIN010: yes. that would be cool
FINARFIN010: we could start with new chars.
VardaValar1: We had a batch that played NeverWinter Nights but could
never get it organized
VardaValar1: Aye, quite possible, if willing
FINARFIN010: well i am willing.
VardaValar1: Would be nice to level together
FINARFIN010: and be able to help new guild players
VardaValar1: Let's see what we can find out on the Games page, then try
to get a group together
VardaValar1: But you do play both D2X and Guild Wars?
VardaValar1: Amazing you found the time : )
FINARFIN010: i play both
FINARFIN010: but in spurts
VardaValar1: That makes sense : )
FINARFIN010: i had not played d2x in about 10 weeks
VardaValar1: Keeps either from getting stale
FINARFIN010: i like guild wars but i never realy have anyone to play
VardaValar1: Ok, we'll try to fix that
VardaValar1: That's the purpose of the Games page
VardaValar1: We also have a Forum to help planning
VardaValar1: or use group emails
VardaValar1: The Forum thread can be bookmarked to your email
VardaValar1: EQ and DAoC people did not use their threads hardly at all
VardaValar1: WoW uses theirs though : )
FINARFIN010: that's good
VardaValar1: D2X isn't using theirs
Orodreth V: Well.
Orodreth V: I have no money.
Orodreth V: and I don't want to resort to a crack
Orodreth V: so looks like no more wc3 for aawhile
VardaValar1: Oro, don't you have Bnet games?
FINARFIN010: Aiya Orodreth
Orodreth V: sc/bw only, now
VardaValar1: Nice to see you live : )
VardaValar1: We need to get that bunch together too
FINARFIN010: hehe (swings hair from his eyes)
VardaValar1: Use the Forum, use Valar channel, use guild names
Orodreth V: I'm /really/ the only one on SC, AFAIK.
VardaValar1: There are others, but they are not using their guild names
or the channel
VardaValar1: We'll see how many we can collect
Orodreth V: I'd love to know who they are.
Orodreth V: Simply so I can yell at them for not using channel.
VardaValar1: Reason for the Games page
VardaValar1: I can't ever get a response from Isildur-V
VardaValar1: That's his bnet account
VardaValar1: I see him on Bnet, but he does not reply
Orodreth V: I used to have a list of every valar member who played sc
on my account
FINARFIN010: Faldif is the only one i see on the game page who plays
Orodreth V: but that was deleted a looong time ago
VardaValar1: I know for a fact there are others
VardaValar1: The Games page requires a response to be accurate
VardaValar1: If they don't reply, we can't list them
FINARFIN010: hehe (blush
VardaValar1: We'll do what we can
FINARFIN010: well it is late and I need to eat!!
VardaValar1: Eonwe is still working on the updates, so we may have more
to go by soon
VardaValar1: Go eat!
VardaValar1: Thanks for the thoughts!
FINARFIN010: *bows low* the pleasure was mine, Lady.
FINARFIN010 has left the room.
Orodreth V: $5 I'll not mean to and end up sitting in here next Sunday
morning, no problem.
Orodreth V: Then, 5 minutes before someone else gets in the chat, my
comp will shut down.
VardaValar1: It used to happen that if one person made the chat room,
he knocked out whoever made it before
VardaValar1: It seemed to have been fixed, but perhaps some related
Orodreth V: Eh?
VardaValar1: Eh what? : )
VardaValar1: It was a bug.
Orodreth V: Er, okay.
Orodreth V: Dunno what that has to do with Murphy hating me, but okay.
VardaValar1: It could be a bug aiding Murphy
VardaValar1: Sitting on his shoulder
FarmerMaggotV: I. hate. drivers.
VardaValar1: I think he means for comp programs, not cars
Orodreth V: I hate both.
Orodreth V: :-D
Orodreth V: Does it make me a bad person to want coherancy in
Orodreth V: You know, at least an attempt at something that resembles
proper grammar and somewhat decent spelling?
VardaValar1: Just a wishful thinker
FarmerMaggotV: I still hate drivers btw =P
VardaValar1: Poor Farmer
VardaValar1: I assume it's an rp we have no connection with? I hope?
FarmerMaggotV: It seems I *always* have problems with getting LAN drivers to
Orodreth V: Varda: Yea.
Orodreth V: Farmer: HAhahahaha. Ha. ;-)
FarmerMaggotV: I wish I didn't lose driver disks =P
Orodreth V: ...and then you complain about drivers.
Orodreth V: "I hate games! I can only play them for a couple days!"
Orodreth V: "Why?"
Orodreth V: "I keep losing the disks!"
VardaValar1: Ok. So why not get a CD holder and keep it by your comp?
VardaValar1: Even if it's only a drawer with jewel cases
Orodreth V: bleh
Orodreth V: too late for me
Orodreth V: wc3 was the only cd I had
Orodreth V: I lost my sc/bw cds loooong ago
Orodreth V: but I made backups which work, so it's all good
VardaValar1: I trust more CD's will appear in your future
VardaValar1: Not too late for those.
Orodreth V: unfort. my wc3/tft backups will only intall the game
Orodreth V: :-\
Orodreth V: stupid copy protection. I should be able to have a backup
that works perfectly.
Orodreth V: but noooo
Orodreth V: stupid people insist on stealing games
VardaValar1: If something happens to the original disk, blooey
Orodreth V: so they have to put copy proctecion on
Orodreth V: it's also a handy way to make a couple extra bucks too
VardaValar1: They need to send two, one being a backup that you play
VardaValar1: Oh you bet
Orodreth V: "scratched your cd?" "Here, buy another at full retail
VardaValar1: If the CD breaks, you can return it and hope for a
VardaValar1: Lost, you are out of luck
Orodreth V: Yup, and that's only if you get it at a decent games store.
VardaValar1: Do try the return
Orodreth V: And it's within x days of purchace.
VardaValar1: Should be able to mail it to the manufacturer. We have
Orodreth V: I got my WC3 disks over a year ago.
VardaValar1: The retail store is a horse of another color
Orodreth V: Varda,
Orodreth V: I don't have the money to MAIL the disks, assuming I HAD
Orodreth V: ...which I don't.
VardaValar1: Right, since they are lost, you are out of luck
VardaValar1: Your parents might spring for postage for replacements, if
you could, but you can't
VardaValar1: Talking about future, not past
VardaValar1: Past is hosed already : )
Orodreth V: and bill gates might give me $1,000,000.
Orodreth V: Or he might not, yes?
VardaValar1: No reason to give it to you : )
Orodreth V: Parental units would say the same.
Orodreth V: :-P
VardaValar1: If in the future you have a cracked disk, you might be
able to return it to the original manufacturer.
VardaValar1: If you have an email or website saying they will replace
it, you can show that to the parental units.
Orodreth V: Hardly.
Orodreth V: They're more likely to frame the cracked disk.
VardaValar1: Maybe the uncle or aunt units : )
VardaValar1: Shiny anyway : )
Orodreth V: The closest of which is like 80 miles away.
Orodreth V: I wish.
VardaValar1: Makes me wonder how you got the first ones : )
VardaValar1: Maybe it would help to show you now have a system to
prevent future loss?
VardaValar1: And since it is so hard to replace them, maybe even use it?
Orodreth V: Grandmother.
VardaValar1: Of course, you may have to grow up and move out...
VardaValar1: Takes a few years, unfortunately
VardaValar1: In our area, you could mow lawns or other things for
neighbors. Don't know what you would do in your area
VardaValar1: I think the grass grows a foot overnight here
VardaValar1: When I was a kid, the guys could get jobs at full service
gas stations. I miss those
