VardaValar1: Membership News:
VardaValar1: Eonwe
just noticed he's been here for six years : )
VardaValar1: *cheer*
ArPharazonV: Congratulations!
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
VardaValar1: New Full Member
this week:
VardaValar1: Elendil-(V)
VardaValar1: He's from Canada and started playing WoW with us on the
Lothar guild branch : )
VardaValar1: New Tolkien-only Member:
VardaValar1: Alasse Merenrel-(TV)
VardaValar1: She joined with two short stories, which you may have
already read
VardaValar1: She'd love to hear comments back from you, as these are
the first two she's written
VardaValar1: In fact, if you liked any stories, poems, articles or
whatever, the author would love to hear from you : )
VardaValar1: If you can't reach them, I can still post your comment to
the bottom of the story
Ugluk of Old has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Pardon, inviting Ugluk
VardaValar1: Aiya
Ugluk of Old: Aiya everyone!
ArPharazonV: Aiya
VardaValar1: And Ugluk is back with us again : )
Ugluk of Old: from the depths...:-)
VardaValar1: He passed his rejoin test : )
VardaValar1: He wasn't sure if he wanted to keep the same name he's had
for lo these many years
VardaValar1: So let's all tell him how badly we need an Orc in this lot!
TheSirG3 has left the room.
VardaValar1: Sauron says we need him ; )
Ugluk of Old: hehe
VardaValar1: So much fun to pick on
Ugluk of Old: ofcourse you'd say that boss :-)
VardaValar1: He woudl
VardaValar1: would
TheSirG3 has entered the room.
TheSirG3: wifi's choosing to act up
VardaValar1: He says you're trying to escape and start your own bandit
gang
VardaValar1: ouch, Farmer. Good luck
Ugluk of Old: :-)
VardaValar1: Aragorn-V
emailed
VardaValar1: to let us know he's still alive
VardaValar1: He now plays WoW Europe
VardaValar1: So Phar, maybe you could talk to him by email and tell him
how great Argent Dawn server is ; )
VardaValar1: We may get enough on Europe for ten yet!
ArPharazonV: hehe
VardaValar1: Also, you all know about Activity Sweeps, or most of you do
ArPharazonV: well, to be honest, I'm quite happy where I am in the High
Guard, getting to know the people even better than you guys, but I'd
sure like it if all Valarguildies were on the same server, or in that
guild if possible
VardaValar1: Every year near the end of the year, we try to find out
who to put on the roster for the next year
VardaValar1: That would be great, Phar
VardaValar1: The idea is for all the guild guys to be able to play
together, and with a small group, we "shadow guild".
VardaValar1: We've done that in lots of games for years : )
VardaValar1: EQ was one
ArPharazonV: so while I don't actually feel something for setting up a
seperate Valar-branch on AD, it would indeed be great to be able to
play together easily
VardaValar1: Aye, that would be getting together on AD too : )
VardaValar1: If High Guard goes belly-up, you'll still have a group to
play with
VardaValar1: Any other Membership News?
VardaValar1: You guys are remembering to scout? : )
GilraenV: Gwaihir
sends greetings, but had to succumb to the lure of sleep
VardaValar1: Give polite, honest LotR readers our website and how to
AIM for us
VardaValar1: May Irmo send him good dreams : )
GilraenV:
I should have my new computer in the next two weeks or so, fingers
crossed
GilraenV: and with it WoW, US
VardaValar1: Now if we can just convince Gilraen to get an
international credit card and a US WoW
GilraenV: hehehe
VardaValar1: Woooot
GilraenV: Gwai's one step ahead of you Varda
GilraenV: ^.~
VardaValar1: Go Gwaihir!
Orodreth V has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Make him get on Lothar too ; )
VardaValar1: Aiya Orodreth!
Ugluk of Old: Aiya
GilraenV: I shall try
VardaValar1: If you're there, he'll be there ; )
VardaValar1: once in a while at least! ; )
VardaValar1: Any further membership news?

TheSirG3: that was bad
VardaValar1: Farmer, is anyone in the Public Chat Valar?
TheSirG3: I don't think there was, but no way of telling
TheSirG3: (right now)
VardaValar1: aye
bnetValar has entered the room.

VardaValar1: As Hitchhiker's Guide says, "Don't panic"
VardaValar1: The links to the authors, titles, and characters are also
updating so you can find them again
VardaValar1: I need to update the Lothar gamers page, sorry. Plan to do

VardaValar1: State of Valar Gaming
Report
VardaValar1: This is done every year after the Games Page update
VardaValar1: Eonwe takes the info you give him and tells what he found
out
VardaValar1: Since so many people did not reply, your favorite game may
not have its vote
VardaValar1: Be sure to let him know!
VardaValar1: Anyone who replied also has an automatic spot on next
year's member roster also
VardaValar1: The State of Valar Gaming Report has it's own page:
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/games/StateofGa
ming/2005state.htm
VardaValar1: It makes interesting reading
VardaValar1: Surprising how many are still in Diablo 2: LoD : )
VardaValar1: We are having a problem with players of different games
breaking up, one reason we have an AIM and Forum
VardaValar1: We are all still Tolkien fans
VardaValar1: You rarely see the Tolkien-onlies, other than special ones
like AuStein who drop by the chat, so it's great when they do that and
find someone here : )
VardaValar1: Like you guys!
ArPharazonV: I can't help but notice a slightly hostile mood on that
page... but maybe that's just me
VardaValar1: WoW
Lothar Report for Friday
VardaValar1: Gelmir and Varda went all the way through Gnomeregan with
friends, joined towards the end by the handy Haran. Merryv and Fainan
went to the Burning Steppes and finished off the quest for the
dragontypes.
VardaValar1: We also had people gaming together or chatting all week as
usual.
VardaValar1: Thursday has been a better day for full groups joining up,
but we don't have to report those ; )
VardaValar1: Does Europe have a report?
ArPharazonV: ehrm... well, not much to tell, actually... we had a
little mishap on Thursday
ArPharazonV: not enough people for Blackwing Lair as we had announced,
so we decided to go to MC instead, and that got some bad responses
ArPharazonV: but nothing much to tell, really
VardaValar1: Beats a lot of soloing instead, seems like
VardaValar1: If they don't show up, that's what happens
ArPharazonV: yes, but that's not the point
ArPharazonV: we have a forum, on which we announce the raids for the
evenings a week ahead
VardaValar1: Gelmir, Orome, and Fangorn say hi from WoW right now, all
at once. : )
ArPharazonV: and give people a chance to sign up
ArPharazonV: and the people who signed up for MC on Friday but not BWL
on Thursday, just got cheated out of half the instance
ArPharazonV: including DKP, setitems, etc
ArPharazonV: and that was the main problem... with the instance locking, you can't do the
same bosses 2 days in a row
ArPharazonV: so the people who wanted to do MC on Friday weren't too
happy
TheSirG3 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: also, next week we're trying an experiment, since we've
got too many people interested in the MC raid
VardaValar1: We would like to sign up people for instances on our Forum
too, if anyone has any interest at all
TheSirG3 has entered the room.
bnetValar has left the room.
bnetValar has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: we're going to split up the core-group, and balance it all
out, so we can have 2 raidgroups, one for Thursday and Saturday, one
for Friday and Sunday
VardaValar1: ahh, makes sense
ArPharazonV: this brings up quite a bit of problems, but we'll just
test it out one week and see if we can do it more frequently in the
future
VardaValar1: It will take more than one week test, sounds good
VardaValar1: I'd really like to hear how that turns out
ArPharazonV: I'll let you know next meeting then :-)
ArPharazonV: I myself will be joining Friday and Sunday, if possible
ArPharazonV: (of course, I'll leave earlier on Sunday for this meeting)
;-)
VardaValar1: So you might only be able to drop in for a few minutes?
ArPharazonV: no, no
VardaValar1: We've had people reporting from DAoC during breaks,
notably our current Menelvagor ; )
ArPharazonV: I'm not too interested in the later bosses yet, so I'll
just join the raid until 23 pm (meeting starting time) and leave the
raid as I announced in the forums
ArPharazonV: I wouldn't miss these meetings for anything in WoW ;-)
VardaValar1: You are a rare Numenorean : )
VardaValar1: Did anyone play anything besides WoW this week? : )
ArPharazonV: ehrm... I played WoW with an alt instead of my main,
too... does that count? ;-)
VardaValar1: nope : )
VardaValar1: My main and alt are both played about equally. Does that
make a double main? : )
ArPharazonV: I think so, yes..
VardaValar1: hah! funny
VardaValar1: So Arathorn has 10 mains...
ArPharazonV: if he actually plays all of them equally, that would
indeed be the case
ArPharazonV: of course, that will change once you actually start doing
raidinstances and the like... you'll almost always have preferred
characters
VardaValar1: He does, bringing them all to 50 together, after making a
60 to help them
ArPharazonV: nice
VardaValar1: If there is no further gaming news?
ArPharazonV: I considered doing the same thing with my alts, but since
I intend to capture all of the profession specialties within them, I
have limited harvesters and many crafters
ArPharazonV: so I have to bring up the harvesters first to supply the
rest ;-)
VardaValar1: pardon, seems most of you are talking in side windows : )
ArPharazonV: wait, you said Arathorn has one 60 to help all his other
players? I would consider the 60 his one main then...
top
Tolkien:
VardaValar1: We need Tolkien topics for tonight, please whisper
VardaValar1: We could also choose some to post for next week
VardaValar1: How
do you folks feel about trying to hit the LotR starting from Ch. 1
Fellowship?
ArPharazonV: you mean discuss one chapter every time?
VardaValar1: Something that starts there anyway
VardaValar1: You know how we tangent ; )
ArPharazonV: hmm... I'd feel compelled to read each chapter in a week
then, to stay focused... but sure, we can give it a try
VardaValar1: or scan it
VardaValar1: Maybe we can have more who feel confident with LotR
afterwards and willing to take Maia tests when invited ; )
ArPharazonV: hmm... the reason I'm a bit scared of Maia-honor is more
about the responsibilities and expected capabilities than the tests...
VardaValar1: Come hang out during tests : )
VardaValar1: Pick it up a bit
VardaValar1: I'm talking to any who might be potential Maia
VardaValar1: Anyone who gives a service to the entire guild, not just
one branch, has a chance
VardaValar1: He needs to learn how the guild is set up and be able to
guide new members
VardaValar1: and he needs to know LotR reallllly well : )
VardaValar1: So this is one way to learn
VardaValar1: But we will of course refer to the wider story when talking about
LotR!
VardaValar1: Tolkien did, after all : )
FladrifV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: yes, I always have trouble defining the "wider story" as
you call it... when someone asks if I'm a Lotr-fan, I try to reply that
I'm a fan of the entire world Tolkien created, but that's hard to bring
in words
FladrifV: Hello all this ent is just back form a metal concert
VardaValar1: Just say you love all of the world of Middle-earth that
Tolkien created?
VardaValar1: Welcome back, wild Ent!
ArPharazonV: am I a fan of Tolkien's work? not as such, he's done more
than the history of Arda, but I'm not very interested in that
VardaValar1: No wonder you fall asleep
FladrifV: /me tries to calm down
ArPharazonV: calling it Middle-earth is a bit difficult too, since it
comprises more than just one continent
VardaValar1: Go run around the block. Tear Orthanc down on the way?
VardaValar1: Middle-earth, as I understand, includes Valinor
FladrifV: Good idea Varda!
VardaValar1: It does not go much into the area outside, but tells a
little as the ships of the stars
FladrifV: for the topic my idea is how
do you think tolkien had in mind the music of all song
ArPharazonV: I thought Middle-earth was just the lands west of the
Great Sea, starting with Beleriand
ArPharazonV: I mean east
VardaValar1: Oh no!
VardaValar1: It's the whole thing, with the idea of Midgard in the
background
ArPharazonV: so normally I end up calling it Arda, but many people
don't know the ter, ;-)
ArPharazonV: *term ;-)
VardaValar1: Arda is the world, good term
VardaValar1: We seem to have found our Tolkien topic: the world!
FladrifV: /me is searching for a quite and noiseless place
VardaValar1: Turn off your headphones ;-)
VardaValar1: So how large an area does Tolkien tell us about?
FladrifV: /me heads to a desert and goes to sleep
ArPharazonV: in total, Tolkien tells us about Ea and even a bit about
beyond
FladrifV: namarie all
VardaValar1: He mentions the Void
ArPharazonV: Namarie
VardaValar1: Namarie1
ArPharazonV: Namarie2
VardaValar1: hehehe
VardaValar1: Sorry, side chat about Lurtz being a cheap copy of an Orc leader ; )
VardaValar1: If anyone else wants to get in on that ; )
ArPharazonV: let me guess, sidechat with Ugluk?
VardaValar1: Surprise!
VardaValar1: They did show Ugluk in the movie
VardaValar1: He was the big Orc
Ugluk of Old: true :-)
VardaValar1: And his head was on a post
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: Did you notice they had two versions of that? One had it
covered by a helmet to be less scary
ArPharazonV: his tongue sticking out... what a way to die
ArPharazonV: yes, I think I heard something about that
VardaValar1: Tongue stuck out at all, even in death ; )
ArPharazonV: just like they shortened the scene of Denethor on fire...
Ugluk of Old: hmmm poor Ugluk :-)
FladrifV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: it was done to keep it below pg 13 or something
VardaValar1: Aye, for rating to let kids in
VardaValar1: Tolkien rated R seemed wrong
ArPharazonV: :-)
ArPharazonV: of course, movies are a lot more graphic than books
VardaValar1: Using black blood let them do more than they could with
red blood
VardaValar1: Black blood all over swords and what not
ArPharazonV: imagine Beren's hand being bitten off, or Fingolfin's
fight with Morgoth
ArPharazonV: could get pretty bloody in the "history of Arda"
VardaValar1: It was a history full of battles, losing ones at that
ArPharazonV: yup
VardaValar1: The Elves fought the "long defeat"
VardaValar1: Humans had help and went for the win
ArPharazonV: Humans won by exploiting a serious weak spot... Morgoth
did not really have any
VardaValar1: That Elves could keep going as long as they did is a great
comment on their strength and ability
Ugluk of Old: defenders of the moral right
VardaValar1: Earendil was Morgoth's : )
VardaValar1: As soon as Earendil could bring the combined plea of Elves
and Men, Morgoth was in trouble.
VardaValar1: No single side could do it
VardaValar1: Went from Orcs to Earendil. Go figure.
ArPharazonV: Morgoth was really defeated only by the combined might of
Valinor
VardaValar1: Morgoth was not alone either
ArPharazonV: his only weakness was indeed in letting that happen
VardaValar1: Morgoth could not stop it from happening
ArPharazonV: well, Morgoth and the minions he had shaped to himself
VardaValar1: His time was up
ArPharazonV: but he did let it happen, by underestimating the courage
of Beren and Tinuviel
VardaValar1: Morgoth also had his Maiar, ones attracted to his power
and ambition rather than the building up of Arda, as the other Valar
did.
ArPharazonV: had he thrown Luthien in a dungeon the moment he
recognized her, Middleearth was doomed
VardaValar1: Beren overstepped, almost blew it. He was only fated to
take one Silmaril.
VardaValar1: Mere slip of an Elf-girl? Come on! ; )
VardaValar1: And she looked suspiciously like his Thuringwethil for a
while there
ArPharazonV: Morgoth overestimated his own strength, didn't see the few
flaws he had
ArPharazonV: and does he was susceptible to Luthien's plan
ArPharazonV: *thus
VardaValar1: He was a physical coward, once he stuck himself in a body.
ArPharazonV: I don't remember the exact details of the event, but I do
know he recognized Luthien before she started putting his army to sleep
VardaValar1: It was too foreign to his proper nature, made him feel
very vulnerable.
VardaValar1: She danced for Morgoth
VardaValar1: That just didn't seem threatening
ArPharazonV: yet he overestimated his strength, by allowing her to do
so, he thought he was too intimidating for her to try something like
that
ArPharazonV: and she didn't seem threatening indeed
VardaValar1: She was more than Elf, too
ArPharazonV: he overestimated his self, and underestimated her
VardaValar1: Had a little Maia in there too
ArPharazonV: and therein lay his flaw
VardaValar1: He had been losing power for a long time, may not have
realized how much.
ArPharazonV: indeed
top
After-meeting:
VardaValar1: Pardon, talking with Gelmir
VardaValar1: A Valar Morghulis member was interested in us, fellow
Tolkien fan
VardaValar1: That's another guild that pops up when we type /who Valar
;-)
VardaValar1: So we accidentally see each other
VardaValar1: So who is not afk? : )
TheSirG3: me
ArPharazonV: me
ArPharazonV: though half busy on the web, updating my profile on a forum
Ugluk of Old: me
VardaValar1: Farmer, you've sat through how many zillion of these talks
now? ;-)
ArPharazonV: I found a new avatar within the Burning Crusade artwork,
and implementing it everywhere ;-)
VardaValar1: You must be an expert by now!
VardaValar1: sounds fun
VardaValar1: Will we see it on our Forum?
ArPharazonV: neh, didn't bring my last avatar there either...
VardaValar1: okies
VardaValar1: I don't use one, just space eater
VardaValar1: But if I see a really good one, hmm
ArPharazonV: I like distinguishing myself from others on a forum, find
it boring to have just name after name after name without pictures with
them
VardaValar1: On our Forum, it's not so bad
ArPharazonV: true
VardaValar1: The names mean something and someone
ArPharazonV: that's why I don't pay much effort on updating my avatar
there :-)
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Aiya Menelvagor!
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
ArPharazonV: do you have any WoW Europe news?
Menelvagor Valar: sorry for being late, I just woke up O:-)
Menelvagor Valar: hmmm...
VardaValar1: Shouldn't you be going to sleep?
Menelvagor Valar: I went to bed real late (9 AM this morning), woke up
quite broken, went to bed less than 5 hours later, and now it's 5 hours
after that, I'm wide awake.
VardaValar1: Oh good!
Menelvagor Valar: anyways, WoW news.... well, 2 weeks of exams... plus
I got myself a DVD-Rom so I can finally play Battle for Middle Earth...
VardaValar1: So you can tell us about Orc leaders, and just how much of
an area of land and space Tolkien covers!
Menelvagor Valar: basically, I've had just about zip time of WoW.
ArPharazonV: cool, perhaps we should play BfME together some time
ArPharazonV: unless you think you see enough of me in WoW :-)
Menelvagor Valar: well, didn't get far, but I can say I definitely
favor Rohan for Good side, and Isengard for Evil side.
Menelvagor Valar: I hardly see ya in WoW, so guess not.
ArPharazonV: when I was playing the evil campaign, I preferred Mordor
ArPharazonV: big fan of the Trolls ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: trolls are nice, but when you got a couple archer /
pikemen contingents fully upgraded, they die fast.
ArPharazonV: true
VardaValar1: There you go, Ugluk. Baddies are still considered ; )
ArPharazonV: fortunately, the AI wasn't that clever... I smashed Minas
Tirith apart using almost nothing but trolls
Menelvagor Valar: unfortunately, even if you do have a couple pikeman
contingents, they still die fast to rampaging Rohirrim, whether archers
or lancers :-)
ArPharazonV: they dropped to the army of the dead like flies, but the
dead didn't last long enough to approach my bases... when they
disappeared, it was just Legolas standing before my towers
VardaValar1: I think I'll declare After-meeting : )
ArPharazonV: :-)
Menelvagor Valar: who died pretty fast :-)
ArPharazonV: pretty much, yes
ArPharazonV: so then it was just a matter of rebuilding my troll army
and moving into the city
Menelvagor Valar: trolls eh.... with how much food / upkeep?
ArPharazonV: I think they're 20 a piece
ArPharazonV: which means I had like 25 of them at the end
Menelvagor Valar: no, I mean total.
ArPharazonV: and let me tell you, it's enough...
Menelvagor Valar: 600?
ArPharazonV: well, about 500 food, I guess, yup
Menelvagor Valar: now let's see...
ArPharazonV: 600 in total, of course
ArPharazonV: I did all secondary missions too
Menelvagor Valar: that's divided by 20...
ArPharazonV: 30 trolls
Menelvagor Valar: that's 30 contingents of Lancers and Archers...
ArPharazonV: the best part was at the beginning, though... I was
playing on easy difficulty, but I had not expected it to be this easy...
Menelvagor Valar: let's say equally spaced out, 15 archers, 15 lancers..
Menelvagor Valar: I think the trolls drop like leaves before my
standard army lol
ArPharazonV: I lured Gandalf to the main gate, summoned a balrog right
before it, took out the gate immediately, and had him smush Gandalf
very near the beginning
Menelvagor Valar: balrog dies pretty fast to the Army :-)
Menelvagor Valar: of the dead that is.
ArPharazonV: true, but he lasted long enough to kill Gandalf and the
Gate in one summon, and that was pretty cool
Menelvagor Valar: that's because the comp prolly does things wrong :-)
ArPharazonV: and I had a small force of trolls waiting in the north,
they took out Eowyn and the Rohirrim as soon as they arrived
Menelvagor Valar: I would have Gandalf mount Shadowfax and ride in
front of the Balrog, out of harms way, while the Balrog gives chase
*grin*
VardaValar1: BfMe is Battle for Middle-earth, which is what they are
talking about
ArPharazonV: eagles: I retreated the Nazgul to the corner behind my
bases, the eagles were half dead before they'd passed me, and the
Nazgul finished them off
ArPharazonV: and the army of the dead, I already told you about
Menelvagor Valar: Eagles are cool, but I have better stuff :-)
VardaValar1: (Don't let Gwaihir read this....)
ArPharazonV: Minas Tirith was truly a piece of cake
ArPharazonV: even Edoras was harder
Menelvagor Valar: well, I can kill an Eagle with Lurtz alone and a
couple of archer contingents make short shrift of them.
Menelvagor Valar: really?
ArPharazonV: yeah... killing stuff with Lurtz was fun, but it took me a
loooong while to advance through the city
Menelvagor Valar: that means I most likely just have to blindfold
myself and use my right hand (lefty) to conquer Minas :-D
ArPharazonV: they produced cavalry so darned fast...
Menelvagor Valar: go Rohirrim!
Menelvagor Valar: probably 2 or 3 stables at rank 3
ArPharazonV: not sure what I did to win that fight.. I think I took out
the stables from afar, with either Lurtz or siege weapons
Menelvagor Valar: then you have a pretty fast generation of cavalry.
Menelvagor Valar: heh, I just do that with my archers
Menelvagor Valar: protected by pikemen of course
Menelvagor Valar: btw, how did you do at the Battle of the Morannon?
ArPharazonV: I pride myself on not letting any hero die in any
battle... whenever they die, I just load a previous game
ArPharazonV: battle of the morannon I have not done yet
ArPharazonV: not finished with the good campaign
Menelvagor Valar: on easy, it is truly easy.
Menelvagor Valar: just have enough cavalry, make sure you have a couple
of wells to retreat to, meet the enemy early on, trample some, and
retreat,
ArPharazonV: getting nearer, though, I think I just have to take out
Nurnen, Dagorlad, and Rhun, and then I've done all secondary missions
Menelvagor Valar: heh, I didn´t even do those, got tired of them.
ArPharazonV: I've read that you can basically save the day by using
almost nothing but evenstar-summons
ArPharazonV: no, my main problem was good Helm's Deep
Menelvagor Valar: with about 7 archer and 8 or so lancer contingents
and some siege equipment, I mostly destroyed the Morannon even before
the Mordor army got out :-D
ArPharazonV: hehe
Menelvagor Valar: no way :-)
ArPharazonV: yes, I had a lot of trouble with Helm's Deep... seeing as
I didn't have a single summon power yet
ArPharazonV: but I took a break of about half a year
Menelvagor Valar: have a couple archer contingents defend the walls
(fire arrows of course)
ArPharazonV: and when I came back, it was surprisingly easy
Glorfindel VG has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: kill ladders and other siege stuff, ride out with
rohirrim through the small gate and smash any big artillery
ArPharazonV: I used my heroes to defend the gate
Menelvagor Valar: they couldn´t even get there lol
ArPharazonV: abandoned everything behind the wall, made stables and a
farm at the top
ArPharazonV: used Legolas and a constant stream of Cavalry to hold back
the invaders coming over the wall
Menelvagor Valar: rams got in a single blow before they got whacked by
my half dozen archers
ArPharazonV: put the elves on the wall behind the gate
ArPharazonV: and after that I used the rest of the heroes to wreak
havoc outside the walls
Menelvagor Valar: oh, I used a lot of archers on those walls, spawning
more every second, but I did not lose a single rohirrim contingent
ArPharazonV: kill the bases, hit the armies from the back, etc
ArPharazonV: it was really great, once I got the hang of it
Menelvagor Valar: heroes are fine, they are just waaaay slow.
Menelvagor Valar: by the time they arrive at the enemy, my rohirrim
will have trampled them.
ArPharazonV: hehe
ArPharazonV: I always group all the heroes together, they make a great
team...
Menelvagor Valar: I wait until they are at the walls, then I have the
archers either hit the siege stuff, or the pikemen, and rohirrim will
do the trampling.
ArPharazonV: but Pippin can die very fast if you don't pay attentin
ArPharazonV: *attention
Menelvagor Valar: I don´t use pippin very often.
ArPharazonV: me neither, since he kept dying
ArPharazonV: now I just put him at the back of the base, and use the
rest of the heroes to devastating effect
Menelvagor Valar: mostly I use Theoden, Eomer and Eowyn, seeing as they
can join in the trampling, and give some nice bonuses too.
ArPharazonV: Gandalf and Aragorn are pretty good damagedealers
ArPharazonV: I've got Gandalf's ultimate on autocast
ArPharazonV: oh, and I'm starting to like rangers too...
Menelvagor Valar: Phar, how much time you got tonight?
ArPharazonV: not much, going to bed in a few minutes
ArPharazonV: early day tomorrow
Menelvagor Valar: no BfME I guess.
ArPharazonV: but seriously... rangers... mass them, upgrade them with
fire arrow, and trolls and mumakil die very very fast
ArPharazonV: even the nazgul can't do much damage
ArPharazonV: before I blast them out of the sky
Menelvagor Valar: for me too, but fortunately, I´ve got just one
exam (phonetics and pronunciation) and after that, prolly some little
learning for tomorrow and then to bed again.
Menelvagor Valar: quite so :-)
Menelvagor Valar: btw, how did you do at Helms Deep evil side?
ArPharazonV: as you may have noticed from our war3 days, I like to mass
specific units..
ArPharazonV: oh, that wasn't bad, I think, been quite a while
Menelvagor Valar: as you may remember, I do too :-)
Menelvagor Valar: I managed to destroy Helms Deep in under 10 minutes.
ArPharazonV: hehe
ArPharazonV: I think I took my time setting up bases and the lot
ArPharazonV: did make it in time to get the bonus objectives, though
ArPharazonV: in fact, in all missions combined, there's just one I
couldn't get all the bonus objectives
Menelvagor Valar: hmm... bases...
Menelvagor Valar: let´s see...
ArPharazonV: hehe
Menelvagor Valar: forge, forge, many, many forges, 1 siege thingy...
spawn a couple rams...
ArPharazonV: just the Emyn Muil was impossible to get the bonus
objectives for evil
Menelvagor Valar: rush in with pikemen / archers, uruk-hai / archers...
ArPharazonV: you have to kill every single goblin camp before the enemy
gets even one
ArPharazonV: that is just undoable
Menelvagor Valar: can´t remember that one.
ArPharazonV: oh, I do... I do...
Menelvagor Valar: well, been a while...
ArPharazonV: tried it like four times, each time the good side got 2
camps down before I even got to their side
ArPharazonV: which made it already too late
Menelvagor Valar: well, I might do the good campaign again some day.
ArPharazonV: :-)
Menelvagor Valar: btw, I´m now doing evil on medium, I think easy
is a bit too easy.
ArPharazonV: hah, you can say that again
ArPharazonV: easy is just good for mindless massing and overrunning the
enemy in every single map
ArPharazonV: each time the starting army is enough to overwhelm the
attacking force
ArPharazonV: and each time one ends the map with full food
ArPharazonV: which means you have a full force again for the next one
:-)
ArPharazonV: it's really ridiculous... but easy enough to get all the
bonus objectives
ArPharazonV: don't think I could pull that off every time in medium
ArPharazonV: but the easiest mission by far for evil is Shelob's Lair
Menelvagor Valar: dunno, would say the Morannon :-\
ArPharazonV: your gold supply is less, but you have enough to mass
trolls and take out everything standing in your way without losing a
single battle
ArPharazonV: just a matter of trudging through the caves, picking up
gold, and making more trolls
ArPharazonV: by the time you get to Frodo and Sam, the battle is won in
3 seconds
ArPharazonV: again, do not know if that would be the case in medium of
hard ;-)
ArPharazonV: *or
ArPharazonV: anyway, I'm getting out of here, I guess
ArPharazonV: oh, btw, Aiya Glorfindel!
Menelvagor Valar: hey, for the sake of `having a life` I´m gonna
play some cs with a classmate of mine.
ArPharazonV: hehe
Glorfindel VG: Aiya! thanks
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya Glorfy.
Glorfindel VG: Aiya my friend
ArPharazonV: so I'll be saving and sending
ArPharazonV: saved
Ugluk of Old: Namarie ArPharazon
VardaValar1: Glorfindel! Heya
Glorfindel VG: hello varda
Glorfindel VG: how are you today
VardaValar1: Didn't see you there! Welcome to after meeting
Glorfindel VG: thank you
VardaValar1: These two Europeans need to go to sleep : )
ArPharazonV: I was scrolling through the conversation I had with Menel,
see how long we had been the only 2 talking, and my eye noticed
"Glorfindel has entered the room" :-D
Glorfindel VG: which country?
ArPharazonV: Netherlands
Glorfindel VG: ooh i would love to visit the netherlands one day
VardaValar1: Ugluk and I are talking in a side window : )
Glorfindel VG: ive never been to europe
Menelvagor Valar: playing now, will stay here to save the rest though
:-)
ArPharazonV: sent
VardaValar1: Guys
ArPharazonV: hm?
TheSirG3: oh?
VardaValar1: I think WoW could handle Europe and Americas on the same
server
VardaValar1: Mornings tend to be fairly quiet here
VardaValar1: People at work or school
VardaValar1: Europe could keep it busy, be more interesting
ArPharazonV: makes sense... when Europe goes to bed, US comes in
ArPharazonV: hard to set up a good maintenance time, though
VardaValar1: They can clobber us all on Tuesday
VardaValar1: One day to wreck them all and in the rl bind them
ArPharazonV: haha
ArPharazonV: anyway, I'm outta here... goodnight all
VardaValar1: Good night!
ArPharazonV: Namarie
ArPharazonV has left the room.
VardaValar1: The formal meeting has been over quite a while. We are
just hanging out together afterwards : )
TheSirG3 has left the room.
bnetValar has left the room.
Nemoeverlonely has entered the room.
Nemoeverlonely: Aiya
VardaValar1: Aiya Herumor
VardaValar1: Welcome to After-meeting
VardaValar1: Most are afk, but just haven't hit Exit
VardaValar1: Just don't want to leave, afraid they will miss something
;-)
Nemoeverlonely: hehe, i fear I can only say hello
VardaValar1: Hello is good!
Nemoeverlonely: I have to get to some business calls
VardaValar1: Go for it!
VardaValar1: Thanks for dropping by!
Nemoeverlonely: Namarie:-)
Nemoeverlonely has left the room.
VardaValar1: Ugluk could use help with the Black Speech
Menelvagor Valar: socializing done :-)
VardaValar1: Never ; )
Menelvagor Valar: of course not, but this particular case is :-)
Menelvagor Valar: and black speech huh?
Menelvagor Valar: afraid all I know about it is the az nazg stuff.
Menelvagor Valar: or ash or sumthing.
VardaValar1: We're looking at the Ardalambion and the TT chapter The
Uruk-Hai among other things
VardaValar1: I'm sort of making a reference page currrently just for me
with the English first
VardaValar1: If it becomes legible, may put it on our language section
Ugluk of Old has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Gonna go ahead and head out. Take care all and good night.
Eonwe Valar: Have fun.
VardaValar1: Namarie
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
VardaValar1: Making English to Orcish
VardaValar1: about done
Orodreth V: YAR
VardaValar1: Yar?
Orodreth V: Er.
Orodreth V: YarR
VardaValar1: Yargh?
Orodreth V: Forgot the second r.
Orodreth V: /me apologizes
VardaValar1: All these shades of Yar
VardaValar1: np ;-)
Orodreth V: I think you need some sleep. :-P
VardaValar1: So the correct spelling is Yarr?
VardaValar1: More coffee! More zzzzz
VardaValar1: ftp has gone wonky
VardaValar1: I may someday upload the Orcish-English, English-Orcish
quick dictionary if the ftp decides to work.
VardaValar1: Freshly built and already behaving in a nefarious manner.
VardaValar1: hah! It works!
Orodreth V: Don't jinx it.
VardaValar1: Live dangerously!
VardaValar1: More or less ;-)
VardaValar1: up!
VardaValar1: And you heard first!
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/lan
g/orcish/Orcish.htm
VardaValar1: Now you can Yarr in Orcish!
Orodreth V: I don't see yarr. :-(
VardaValar1: hmm
VardaValar1: May need a synonym
VardaValar1: fixed a couple of links, weren't saved yet. *blush*
Orodreth V: I think we can safely say Yarr is pan-linguistic.
VardaValar1: What does it mean?
VardaValar1: Attention?
VardaValar1: Rats?
Orodreth V: Yarr, actuall.
VardaValar1: And probably true
Orodreth V: It's a definitona dn word all in one.
Orodreth V: And I can't type.
VardaValar1: A definition must use words other than the word defined.
VardaValar1: heeh
VardaValar1: You're right. Caffeine definitely indicated.
VardaValar1: 9:47pm EST
Orodreth V: /me kicks his comp
Orodreth V: why hasn't this thing updated?
Orodreth V: oh
VardaValar1: Are you in EST?
Orodreth V: it has
Orodreth V: est
Orodreth V: hehe
VardaValar1: VST Valar Standard Time is EST
VardaValar1: I'm in CST
Orodreth V: same
VardaValar1: We had to have a common time
VardaValar1: yay for the CST'ers!
VardaValar1: We could have gone with GMT for VST ;-)
VardaValar1: The zero time!
VardaValar1: I guess I should put down who the culprit is to blame for
this
VardaValar1: Could use additions from guild! But you are stuck with
mine for now.
Orodreth V: This tells you something about my classmates
Orodreth V: Kaite just asked for help with a reading assignment..
Orodreth V: [20:54] Kaite: who would ahve done it. that i can ask if
they found it int he reading[20:54] Orodreth V: uhh[20:54] Orodreth V:
no one?
VardaValar1: All afk like our lot?
Orodreth V: nono
Orodreth V: as in
Orodreth V: no one else did the reading
Orodreth V: >.>
VardaValar1: But surely Orodreth did the reading! : )
VardaValar1: But that is scary
VardaValar1: They are waiting for midnight!
Orodreth V: More like class tomorrow
VardaValar1: Or teacher to tell them what it says, so they don't have
to consider or think or put forth effort
Orodreth V: And I can't find the book
Orodreth V: gona look now
VardaValar1: okies
top
