VardaValar1: We took Merry to the airport and saw him fly off : )
ArPharazonV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Mara mesta : )
ArPharazonV: goodbye?
VardaValar1: oops
ArPharazonV: did I miss the meeting already? must've been a short one then
VardaValar1: Aiya : )
ArPharazonV: :-)
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: I should not mess with Phar
Ugluk of Old: Aiya
VardaValar1: Aiya Menel
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: Nothing's begun yet :}
VardaValar1: Aiya lots of folks who beat me here : )
Menelvagor Valar: sorry, was reading, hadn't noticed my comp had restarted already :-)
Menelvagor Valar: including me, I started inviting at 4:15
Menelvagor Valar: 45*
Menelvagor Valar: so, what's cooking tonight?
FarmerMaggotV: I
FarmerMaggotV: I'm programming, as usual =)
Menelvagor Valar: I'd prefer the mushrooms to a tough old hobbit if you don't mind.
VardaValar1: Now inviting
FarmerMaggotV: hehe
VardaValar1: Need help spotting people who come on during the meeting
VardaValar1: They often don't know how to enter
ArPharazonV: completely idle now, just got from an ogre-killing run with a lvl 20/21 warlock (he leveled during the run)
Menelvagor Valar: Loch Modan?
ArPharazonV: ayup
ArPharazonV: with my lvl 22 paladin
Menelvagor Valar: the elite ones I take it?
VardaValar1: Now inviting
ArPharazonV: are there others in Loch Modan?
Menelvagor Valar: and the ogres are?
Menelvagor Valar: not that I know :P
Menelvagor Valar: which level?
ArPharazonV: 18-20, the ones we have faced
Srekal86 has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: holy light and fear really came in useful there
Menelvagor Valar: ah those, I remember soloing up to three at lvl 19 or so.
VardaValar1: Aiya
ArPharazonV: hehe
Srekal86: 'lo
ArPharazonV: I can solo one, 2 is a bit tougher.. but most of the challenge was keeping the warlock alive, he aggroed everything off of me ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: then again, my paladin now has a max of about 800 crit.
Menelvagor Valar: (26)
ArPharazonV: wow
Menelvagor Valar: what are you specced, Phar?
VardaValar1: Finished inviting those I see
ArPharazonV: retri, with 5 points in devotion
Menelvagor Valar: so you have seal of command?
Menelvagor Valar: or actually, you don't
ArPharazonV: no, no... in a few levels probably
ArPharazonV: indeed
Eonwe Valar: Seal of Command is the only way a Paladin is going to crit for 800 :}
ArPharazonV: for now I'm sticking with crusader, it's pretty col
ArPharazonV: *cool
ArPharazonV: when I really need to survive, I crusade, judge, and then seal of righteousness for max extra holy damage
VardaValar1: Starting. Please feel free to keep up your chat on a side window : )

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo!
VardaValar1: Membership Info:
Nemoeverlonely: hmm
Nemoeverlonely: i am doing well on d2!
VardaValar1: You are all appreciated for showing up
Nemoeverlonely: lol, ;-)
VardaValar1: Boromir emailed
VardaValar1: He said he's still with us, has been studying hard making A's, wrestling, and job-hunting. He's also reading a lot when he can
VardaValar1: Merry flew down for Thanksgiving
VardaValar1: Much fun was had by all, including a lot of Lothar WoW ;-)
VardaValar1: Ulmo has named his new sailboat, Hirilonde, "Haven Finder"
VardaValar1: He hopes to send us the Tengwar and have us help check the correctness before it goes on the ship
VardaValar1: Eowyn says hi from WoW.
Ugluk of Old: Aiya Eowyn
VardaValar1: Any other Member news?

VardaValar1: Web News:
VardaValar1: Tolkien Encyclopedia:
GilraenV: (Gilraen is going to bed, because she has a headache, and work in the morning)
VardaValar1: May you feel better!
GilraenV: thanks
VardaValar1: Good night!
GilraenV: namarie folks
VardaValar1: Stories:
GilraenV has left the room.
Ugluk of Old: THak some kingsfoil and you'll be better in the morning :-)
Ugluk of Old: take
VardaValar1: Barahir finished the Battle of the Crossing of Poros
VardaValar1: But now he wants to re-write it : )
VardaValar1: The raw stuff is online, and will be edited during the coming week
VardaValar1: I haven't put much time into the guild web this week, with Thanksgiving and visitors
VardaValar1: Everyone comes to my house and it's fun, but very busy : )
VardaValar1: The membership roster for next year will be going up roughly, and you can check to make sure you're listed, probably by next Sunday
VardaValar1: Hyarion has been hard at work on his Encyc and group
VardaValar1: He interviewed with LotRO : )
Srekal86: /me grins
VardaValar1: Would you like to tell any news from your end, Hyarion/Srekal? : )
Srekal86: Not really, just that its hard keeping the encyclopedia up to the standard of Valar Guild's and that our IRC Server is going strong ;-)
AuSteinM has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya AuStein!
AuSteinM: Aiya!
VardaValar1: Have you been adding to your Tolkien Encyc this week, Hyarion?
Srekal86: Ya, a few hundred more articles were added, we now surpassed for the largest Tolkien encyclopedia, but Valar Guild still has a lot of information we lack.
VardaValar1: He did work at setting up an interview with the band, "The Hobbit" also
Orodreth V has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Where is this mass of articles coming from, Hyarion?
Orodreth V: Sirry, got distracted.
Srekal86: VardaValar1: mostly just contributors who visit the site
VardaValar1: You must be doing a great job of attracting their attention, as they sure aren't coming here
VardaValar1: Congratulations!
Srekal86: Thanks :-)
VardaValar1: Any further Web News from anyone?

VardaValar1: Gaming News:
VardaValar1: Did anyone play non-WoW games this last week? : )
Orodreth V: I've been on and off tft
VardaValar1: Nice
VardaValar1: Seen anyone else on Battlenet?
Orodreth V: Seen Finarfin when he was playing d2, but nothing else
VardaValar1: Thanks
VardaValar1: Menelvagor, do you have a WoW Europe report?
VardaValar1: Guess he's afk. Phar, can you give one?
ArPharazonV: hmm...
Menelvagor Valar: was afk.
ArPharazonV: *points to Menel*
Menelvagor Valar: well, apart from the fact that my former guild and the alliance are still going strong, there's not much to tell..
Menelvagor Valar: well, more to the point, nothing I can think worth telling.
VardaValar1: You still play with the Valar players on Argent Dawn?
Menelvagor Valar: yeah, but barely..
ArPharazonV: we played on Friday in MC together!
Menelvagor Valar: I mostly play on raid nights, and at other times, I'm mostly busy with school.
Menelvagor Valar: we did, but that's about the only time we got together.
Ugluk of Old has left the room.
ArPharazonV: as for outside the raids, not much news
ArPharazonV: people questing in Stratholme, Dire Maul, Silithus...
ArPharazonV: I finished my last few non-instance quests today
ArPharazonV: still no luck at Ragnaros, we couldn't even get past Majordomo because of a lack of mages
ArPharazonV: our guild keeps growing, though, with new alts and recurring players from guilds we merged with
ArPharazonV: our leader, a warlock, was the first to gain the full tier 1 set this week
ArPharazonV: and even though I'm feral, I now have more Cenarion than all other druids in our group ;-)
ArPharazonV: make that any other druid
Menelvagor Valar: yes, but then again, you have never bid below 100 dkp for any item :-)
VardaValar1: Mostly we are interested in the Valar members in there, not the main guild
ArPharazonV: true, true
ArPharazonV: I always bid everything I have, or everything - 1
ArPharazonV: and so far, it helps ;-)
VardaValar1: Grats, Phar
Menelvagor Valar: how many cenarion do you have now?
ArPharazonV: 3 pieces, belt, helm, chestpiece
VardaValar1: Do you see any of the other Valar European members on?
ArPharazonV: well, Fladrif is often there
Menelvagor Valar: me, flad and phar usually.
ArPharazonV: Valandil I haven't seen in some time
Menelvagor Valar: I talk to him at times, he has odd and few hours to play.
Menelvagor Valar: but that's about it for the european report.
ArPharazonV: yeah, guess so
VardaValar1: Eonwe, do you have the WoW Lothar report?
Eonwe Valar: Aye, I do
Pengolodh has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Please go ahead, Eonwe
Eonwe Valar: This week, we quested in Blackrock Depths.
Eonwe Valar: Questers:Sauron, Merry, Eonwë, Faromire(non-guild guy, was questing with Merry and Sauron, joined us for a while in BRD), Arathorn (came in as we were beginning the instance)
Eonwe Valar: Quests Completed: Marshall Windsor, Karan Mighthammer, Heart of the Mountain, Incendius!, Dark Iron Legacy
Eonwe Valar: We went into Blackrock Depths, heading right first. It was a rocky start, but we got the hang of it quickly and managed to minimize deaths for most of the instance.
Eonwe Valar: We first came across the jail cells, and after a fight to obtain a key to the cell doors, we unlicked them, finding both Marhsall Windsor and Karan Mighthammer in the process.
Eonwe Valar: After completing our dealings with these two, went continued on into the Depths. Since a couple of of us needed the Shadowforge key, we went after the Shadowforge key.
Menelvagor Valar: now that's a nice slip of the tongue "unlicked" :-D
Eonwe Valar: er, unlocked :}
ArPharazonV: unlicked, marhsall, a couple of of us...
ArPharazonV: tsk! you're slipping!
Eonwe Valar: apparently when I wrote this up I didn't do much of a spell check :}
Eonwe Valar: pardon any further slips :} I'll have to go back and correct them all on the Forum too :}
ArPharazonV: oh, and it's Kharan ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: well, if there were a couple of hounds, it might actually be true, their fiery tongues might actually act as a welding device :-P
Menelvagor Valar: but sorry for the interruption, please continue.
ArPharazonV: I'll pardon your slips, Eonwe... not sure if I'll not mention them, though... but continue
Eonwe Valar: Along the way, we found Incendius and decided to deal with him then and there. Jumping down to his area, we did away with his guards and set upon him. Once he was gone, we followed the path before us.
Eonwe Valar: We came to the Craft Room where we found Darkvire, and dealing with him claimed Ironfell. We continued to clear the craft room, heading back up to where we had jumped down.
Eonwe Valar: Once there, we cleaned out the vaults of the Dark Iron's ill-gotten wealth, and were set upon by the chamber's guardians, 4 Golems and one angry Dwarf.
Nemoeverlonely: Namarie guys
ArPharazonV: Namarie
Nemoeverlonely has left the room.
Pengolodh: Namaarie
Eonwe Valar: This fight nearly cost us the ability to continue on, as we lost Merry early on, and all of our wipe prevention abilities were on cooldown,
Eonwe Valar: but thanks to Arathorn's character being a Warlock, we were able to summon Merry back once he had his body and have a 4-man team again.
Eonwe Valar: With all four of us there again, we took on the boss first, defeating him quickly, then moving on to the constructs inhabiting the room.
Eonwe Valar: They were also quickly dealt with. We then claimed the heart of the mountain and proceeded to find a way to reach the Bar to deal with a Dark Iron Dwarf who had stolen a recipe from another Dwarf.
Eonwe Valar: In our journey, we came across Bael'gar. Our time was growing short, so we decided to make our move on him the last one for the run.
Eonwe Valar: After careful maneuvering to get to him, we fought a valiant fight, using everything we could to take him down. In the end, though, he managed to get us when he summoned his lava minions.
Eonwe Valar: We'd managed to get him down to less than 1/4th of his health, but decided that's all we're doing for the run, and went to tidy up our quest logs with what we did accomplish.
Menelvagor Valar: a job well done I'd say.
ArPharazonV: indeed it is
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
Eonwe Valar: And that concludes my report.
ArPharazonV: how long did it all take?
VardaValar1: Thank you Eonwe : )
Eonwe Valar: Hmm
Eonwe Valar: I think we started about 9 or 10 p, my time, and called it a bit after 3 am
Eonwe Valar: if it weren't for need of sleep, we could've kept going :}
ArPharazonV: :-)
Eonwe Valar: and need of soul shards, perhaps :}
Menelvagor Valar: that's about the time we take to kill Golemagg O:-)
ArPharazonV: yup, about
VardaValar1: If you guys are done? : )
Menelvagor Valar: up to Eonwe I say :-)
ArPharazonV: :-X
Pengolodh has left the room.
VardaValar1: We've been having a side discussion on whether PHP or ASP is the way to go with the Encyclopedia, for adding drop-down boxes and other features.
VardaValar1: If anyone has any comments they would like to make about which they prefer, I'm interested.
VardaValar1: If we like, we can use the side room for Valar Programmers that Farmer used to set up for us : )
VardaValar1: We can be in both at the same time
VardaValar1: Tolkien:
Menelvagor Valar: I wouldn't know half the terms, so no use for me.
VardaValar1: Has anyone been reading any Tolkien or watching the movies lately? :-)
Srekal86: /me has his Ringers: Lord of the Fans in route
VardaValar1: We could use some more hole-filler fiction especially, and we have a list of articles needed on the front page of the Encyc
VardaValar1: Dominic Monaghan narrating?
Srekal86: correct.
ArPharazonV: I just read something Tolkien-related 20 seconds ago.. an installment of a "ranting" comic on a website
ArPharazonV: Karnak/Karnak/
Srekal86: also has songs/vids/pics from the band, 'Hobbit', who I was just talking with today
ArPharazonV: but mine was just a short mention.. moving on
Menelvagor Valar: if I may interrupt for a minute or two.
Menelvagor Valar: I was hoping I could stay on a bit longer tonight for a special ocassion, but unfortunately, due to a very early rise tomorrow, I will have to leave for bed soon.
VardaValar1: Thanks for coming, Menel : )
VardaValar1: Don't forget the rp! Eonwe's working on it now : )
Menelvagor Valar: *uncovers the cloth from the long table he was guarding, showing a wide selection of spices and drinks*
Eonwe Valar: Happy Anniversary Menel :}
Ugluk of Old has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: I would have loved to stay for the party of my 6th anniversary next tuesday (today is 2190th day), but as I said, I can't

ArPharazonV: what just happened?
VardaValar1: *sends up the hidden balloons*
Eonwe Valar: ok, that's interesting
VardaValar1: Just wiped us all and put us all back?
Menelvagor Valar: Even in here the old troubles seem to reach us!
Eonwe Valar: According to my screen I didn't come back :}
Srekal86 has entered the room.
FarmerMaggotV has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: according to my screen, neither did I
Menelvagor Valar: to my screen, all of you did :-)
ArPharazonV: according to my sidescreen, yes I'm back.. according to the messages in the room, I never did
Menelvagor Valar: hehe
ArPharazonV: and Menelvagor and Eonwe reentered twice
VardaValar1: The scroll is still there
Menelvagor Valar: heck of a way to celebrate my anniversary ;-)
VardaValar1: With a bang!
VardaValar1: Happy anniversary, Menelvagor : )
Eonwe Valar: AIM didn't want you to leave without something different happening :}
Ugluk of Old: yeeehaaa
Menelvagor Valar: probably not *grin*
ArPharazonV: there are some people not back, though
ArPharazonV: Fladrif, Austein, the bridge
Menelvagor Valar: At any rate, I've got a little speech, if you would indulge me :-)
AuSteinM has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Welcome back
Menelvagor Valar: 6 years is a long time, even for Valar standards, and I've enjoyed every day.
VardaValar1: =)
Menelvagor Valar: I remember clearly the first day I got into contact with the Valar Guild, when I was happily browsing the web in search of Tolkien material and stumbled upon the website.
Shaggyjoe has entered the room.
FallenGlory has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: or more to the point, the old Discussion Board.
Menelvagor Valar: I emailed Varda and got a whole lot of information, and got really excited to join.
Shaggyjoe: Grats on your 6th year Menel
Menelvagor Valar: Back then, it was mostly Diablo 1 being played, and I remember seeing the game in stores, but never really got interested in it.
Menelvagor Valar: And then, I just went to the store and bought it, and actually enjoyed it, to my surprise.
Menelvagor Valar: I officially became a member nov. 29th 1999, and even though I could not play often, due to me being in high school and dial-up connection, I still remember the old meetings, riddled with bugs and netsplit.
Menelvagor Valar: After 2 years of being in the guild, I "rejoined" when I got my own comp and my own steady broadband connection.
Menelvagor Valar: After that, I became more involved, and apart from some little times apart, due to circumstances, I haven't missed a meeting.
FarmerMaggotV has left the room.
VardaValar1 has left the room.

Glorfindel VG has left the room.
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
ArPharazonV: welcome back
VardaValar1: Did it again, heh
VardaValar1: Anyone have a clue as to why?
ArPharazonV: according to my list, I stayed here! wee!
Menelvagor Valar: Although some meetings were kind of boring (but that's to be expected), most were really interesting and I wouldn't have missed them for all the money in the world.
Eonwe Valar: No idea
Menelvagor Valar: To get this to an end, over the years, I've met many people who I have come to call my friends, and even family.
FarmerMaggotV has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: May the Valar Guild last forever and continue to be a happy family until the world ends and beyond!
Menelvagor Valar: That's it :-)
VardaValar1: *applauds*
Eonwe Valar: bravo :}
ArPharazonV: *cheer*
Menelvagor Valar: and now: dig in!
ArPharazonV: btw, is it just me, or do Menel and Varda have the same color now? that could become interesting
Menelvagor Valar: not to me :-)
Eonwe Valar: Varda is grey, Menel orange
Menelvagor Valar: anyways, have a great meeting and until we meet again, Namarie!
ArPharazonV: they're both purple to me.. odd
Eonwe Valar: take care Menel :}
ArPharazonV: Namarie!
Menelvagor Valar has left the room.
Shaggyjoe has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Crazy AIM is trying to remindd you of Bnet days : )
VardaValar1: On the programming, general agreement is go with PHP, which seems to already be supported by server. Also use javascript for small things.
VardaValar1: That sound like the way to go?
Srekal86 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Welcome back
ArPharazonV: not the person to ask, really, I don't know anything about this stuff...
VardaValar1: On the programming, general agreement is go with PHP, which seems to already be supported by server. Also use javascript for small things.
VardaValar1: Sound like a way to go?
VardaValar1: ok, all the comments seem to be on the side windows but Phar's : )
FarmerMaggotV: heh
Eonwe Valar: If that's what you want.
Srekal86: stupid AIM.
FarmerMaggotV: have you made sure you have PHP?
VardaValar1: Aye, Hyarion. It doesn't usually do this
VardaValar1: Something weird is going on
Srekal86: IRC < AIM ;-)
Srekal86: er
FarmerMaggotV: lol
Srekal86: IRC > AIM
VardaValar1: One of those is probably true : )
FarmerMaggotV: I'd have to agree with the first actually
Srekal86: lol
Srekal86: bleh
Srekal86: thesirg, why is that?
FarmerMaggotV: *.net *.split
FarmerMaggotV: =P
Srekal86: single server :p
Srekal86: and I rarely see net splits.
FarmerMaggotV: you don't hang out in undernet ;-)
Shaggyjoe: lol
Srekal86: exactly, I'm on about 15 servers right now though
Srekal86: and maybe once every month I'll see one, if that, and its usually freenode
VardaValar1: This has not been happening here. Check the transcripts
VardaValar1: This is unusual
Srekal86: well ya AIM is fairly stable I'll admit that
Srekal86: but stability is only a small percentage, especially when they are relatively close
Eonwe Valar: You make it sound like we have to drag that admission out of you :}
FarmerMaggotV: it's probably my bias toward's AIM's protocol over IRC ;-)
Srekal86: thesirg, will you at least agree that IRC has more features/commands, etc?
FarmerMaggotV: depends, I don't know if I'd say more, but rather different
Srekal86: chanserv/opserv/botserv/memoserv/hostserv /etc, services have quite a few.
FarmerMaggotV: DirectIM, typing notifications, buddy lists, buddy icons, buddy comments, buddy aliases, etc
Srekal86: directim/xdcc/dcc
FarmerMaggotV: they aren't the same
Srekal86: typing notifications? well, not in a chatroom like this, I'm comparing an AIM chatroom to an IRC one, not the whole buddy list/etc
FarmerMaggotV: I was comparing the whole thing
VardaValar1: Buddy list is essential to this room
Srekal86: Obviously AIM is going to not be comparable to IRC when dealing as an IM client, but I'm talking specifically chatrooms.
FarmerMaggotV: plus AIM enforces people to be who they were last week
Srekal86: FarmerMaggotV: IP ;-)
FarmerMaggotV: hehe, dynamic IP
FarmerMaggotV: or TOR
Srekal86: tracert or proxy detecting
FarmerMaggotV: but we've dragged this way off topic ;-)
Srekal86: ;-) as usual for me, sorry.
VardaValar1: I have been wanting to hear exactly this sort of comparison : )
VardaValar1: If you are done, we have a Tolkien topic
ArPharazonV: ehrm
ArPharazonV: Orodreth wants to be invited in
ArPharazonV: but I can't since it's said he's already in
VardaValar1: Invite him then : )
FarmerMaggotV: I did
ArPharazonV: is there any alternative way?
Orodreth V has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya : )
Orodreth V: Thankee
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Ugluk of Old: Aiya
Orodreth V: Net burbed.
FarmerMaggotV: AIM Triton makes inviting really simple =)
VardaValar1: It sure did, Oro : )

VardaValar1: Tolkien:
VardaValar1: The economic system in Middle-earth is not something Tolkien dwelt on, but it was there.
VardaValar1: Let's see if we can find some of the hints.
VardaValar1: The hobbits had an agricultural system
VardaValar1: They passed around mathoms
ArPharazonV: apparently there was export of pipeweed, seen and unseen
VardaValar1: They had a very little association with Dwarves passing through to the Misty Mountains
VardaValar1: Aye, Phar
Eonwe Valar: They had less dealings with the Elves.
VardaValar1: Yet they did have some
VardaValar1: The elves passed through, mostly quietly
VardaValar1: They visited with Bilbo, or went on to the Havens
Eonwe Valar: Bilbo and Frodo were the main ones dealing with Elves.
Orodreth V: does anyone recall any money used in the inns in the Shire?
VardaValar1: There must have been some visitation
VardaValar1: We know Tom Bombadil had dealings with Farmer Maggot
VardaValar1: Somehow Barliman ran his inn
Eonwe Valar: They had to pay for drinks somehow.
VardaValar1: He had some system for payment
ArPharazonV: and for rooms
VardaValar1: and rooms and food and stables
VardaValar1: I suspect they had coins, maybe left over from the Kingdom of Arnor
Ugluk of Old: what about Mithril?
Eonwe Valar: They did try to auction off Bilbo's estate at the end of the Hobbit.
VardaValar1: Mithril was hard to come by for Hobbits, but it could have come in from the Dwarf trade.
Eonwe Valar: It's probably a safe assumption the Hobbits had money of some form.
VardaValar1: If Arnor had a system of coins, they could still have been around all over.
VardaValar1: They could have provided a base for other systems of trade, by comparison in worth.
Eonwe Valar: aye
VardaValar1: If Arnor had a coin system, it would probably have been similar in Gondor.
VardaValar1: The kingdoms were set up by the same family
FladrifV has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Ent : ) Talking economy in Middle-earth : )
FladrifV: Aiya
Orodreth V: I seem to recall Aragorn plunking down some coins in Barliman's inn.
VardaValar1: Rivendell had a flow of peoples of all sorts coming through. They could have used the same system set up by the Numenoreans, as Elrond and Elros were twin brothers.
VardaValar1: Oro, could you try to find that quote? That would be a huge help
VardaValar1: I have no idea if Lothlorien had any system set up for trade. They may have had some with Rivendell, as there was visiting and family relations among the rulers
VardaValar1: Mirkwood had trade, we know, from the Hobbit. The barrels, the raft-elves
VardaValar1: They traded with Men, at least
ArPharazonV: aye, trade with Esgaroth
VardaValar1: Aye
ArPharazonV: there also seems to have been trade of sorts between Erebor and Dale
VardaValar1: After the Dwarves set up in the Lonely Mountain, they probably traded with them too
VardaValar1: Aye.
ArPharazonV: and between them and the rest of the world, as their devices seem to have spread far
VardaValar1: The Birthday party had items from all around there
ArPharazonV: exactly
Eonwe Valar: Rivendell doesn't seem to me to be a place where money is required.
VardaValar1: Dwarves came in for Bilbo and Frodo's party
VardaValar1: Rivendell would not require money, but travelers through there might have used money or trade in thanks
Eonwe Valar: Pardon my late jump in.
Eonwe Valar: True.
VardaValar1: Where did Rivendell pick up all their fine clothes and materials?
FladrifV: Very little this ent knows about economical matters I only know of many supplies floating around in Isengard
VardaValar1: hehe
Ugluk of Old: Esgaroth was rebuilt using gold from Smaug's hoard
Eonwe Valar: I would assume it's made by the inhabitants of Rivendell :}
VardaValar1: There had to be a lot of trade going on for Saruman to be able to quietly collect so much
VardaValar1: Trade or money, some sort of economy
Eonwe Valar: The question is how he managed to accrue that much money.
FladrifV: maybe in aliance with mordor
VardaValar1: Some of the Moria silver left behind by the Dwarves?
Eonwe Valar: in Isengard?
VardaValar1: Saruman had dealings with humans too
ArPharazonV: one has to wonder what he actually exported, yes... you can't live on import alone
ArPharazonV: wood from Fangorn and surrounding forests?
FladrifV: I dont think sauroman needed a trade
Eonwe Valar: He did have a way with convincing people of stuff. Perhaps that's all he needed.
FladrifV: he just told the people to give it to him
ArPharazonV: true
ArPharazonV: big bully...
VardaValar1: Saruman had to keep up forges, set up an army. He needed materials
FladrifV: His thoungeue was his best friend
VardaValar1: He had things such as Longbottom Leaf, so he didn't just make everything locally
VardaValar1: Aye, Fladrif. I suspect Fangorn was not entirely immune to it : )
FladrifV: even the old one's weren't
VardaValar1: As Saruman became more interested in power, his ability with his voice became less.
VardaValar1: However, it was still powerful : )
VardaValar1: How did Mirkwood elves handle their trade?
FladrifV: Greed overules diplomacy
ArPharazonV: and eagerness overrules subtlety
FladrifV: ((was looking for that words cal...arphara))
Orodreth V has left the room.
ArPharazonV: hehe... cal...
VardaValar1: They sent empty barrels back down the river to be refilled. They had raft elves pushing the barrels on when they would have caught
Eonwe Valar: Aye, they had to have paid the Men downriver for their part in filling the barrels.
ArPharazonV: the forest provides a lot of materials, materials a people living in a lake would probably have problems acquiring otherwise
VardaValar1: Aye, Phar. Quite right
ArPharazonV: *living on a lake, even
VardaValar1: The men used bows too. If they could have one of elven make, they would surely be pleased and be willing to pay in some form
VardaValar1: This would be true of many other things, that one just comes to mind since Bard used a bow famously
VardaValar1: The types of fur and meat available in a forest would be different, as would berries, nuts, and roots
VardaValar1: The elves surely made a great many things
VardaValar1: We hear little about the middle-class elves who did all this making of things in Rivendell and Mirkwood or even Lothlorien
VardaValar1: Would there be a "lower-class" elf?
VardaValar1: I can't imagine any being allowed to go hungry or without shelter
VardaValar1: Surely all would be provided with clothing
Eonwe Valar: Aye, I would think every elf had a part in the community.
VardaValar1: The ruling elves may have been quite active also.
VardaValar1: Elrond making things for healing, writing books
VardaValar1: His sons were obsessed with orc-killing, but he surely required them to do other things as well
VardaValar1: They seemed to run Rivendell decently after Elrond left
ArPharazonV: Galadriel and her maidens making the elven cloaks, right?
ArPharazonV: or was it just her maidens?
VardaValar1: ahh, and bow strings
VardaValar1: High class medieval ruling women were expected to be good with needlecraft
VardaValar1: Do you suppose they also held horse-races? Competitions with various warrior and craft skills?
VardaValar1: Prizes for same?
VardaValar1: I would expect it.
Eonwe Valar: It's likely.
Eonwe Valar: One wouldn't want to get rusty.
VardaValar1: Coins would probably be in short supply after the fall of the kingdom. So barter would have become more important
VardaValar1: Competitions would also be a good way to bring together people from different areas
Eonwe Valar: Aye. Value in coins might've become more about the weight of the metal than any value placed on the coin itself.
VardaValar1: That might be how Rivendell and Mirkwood knew each other, as well as keeping up security
ArPharazonV: still, even without coins, one could still give a coin-ish value to bartered items
VardaValar1: Right, Phar
ArPharazonV: and barter between them without using the coins themselves
VardaValar1: Correct
ArPharazonV: item a is 1 coins, item b is 2 coins, so item b is worth twice as much as item a
VardaValar1: Use the coins as a standard measure
ArPharazonV: so 2 items a could be bartered against 1 item b
ArPharazonV: this of course being a very simple and static example..
ArPharazonV: the value of items between themselves could fluctuate in seasons of abundance or of shortage
ArPharazonV: or between "friendly discounts" ;-)
Eonwe Valar has left the room.
Eonwe Valar has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: welcome back
Eonwe Valar: Thanks, but I've got bad news.
Eonwe Valar: I just spent the last 2 hours trying to type my next piece of the RP, and in that blink of a power outage, it's all gone.
ArPharazonV: agh, I hate when something like that happens
Haldir V has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: You still have the general line in your head, right?
VardaValar1: Consider it a rough draft. The next one will be even better. But two hours! Ugh!
Eonwe Valar: Well, the next one won't come until at least next week.
Srekal86: Eowne: if its in word MS Word keeps a backup with autosave
Eonwe Valar: I was working on our Forum, not an option.
FarmerMaggotV: ouch
Eonwe Valar: I know where it's going, aye, but I don't have time to try and retype it tonight.
ArPharazonV: well, if you're not sure you can remember it overnight, draw up a rough sketch in word or something?
VardaValar1: Don't wait too long, or it could slip away
Eonwe Valar: I'll see what I can do, but I don't have alot of time to be spending on it now.
VardaValar1: Consider it homework for the guild : )
FladrifV: Its hard to type a story twice in the same way...and that is with one person involved..think of how myths envolved in time
VardaValar1: It will not be the same
VardaValar1: It will be closer the sooner you do it
Eonwe Valar: Aye, the real hard part is capturing the first part though. The second part is still clear enough in my mind, but the first part is better IMO.
VardaValar1: Write some quick notes before it fades. The writing may remind you of the first part
Haldir V: what happened?
Haldir V: did eonwe forget something>
Eonwe Valar: I forgot not to trust modern technology :}
VardaValar1: Eonwe's forum post for our role-play on the Forum was destroyed in a power outage whilst typing.
Haldir V: :O
FarmerMaggotV has left the room.
Ugluk of Old: but he's got lot's of time he said to redo it :-) Eonwe Valar: I've got a major project due this week, another due next week, a test this week, an oral test this week, finals in two weeks,.....
VardaValar1: and an rp post to write! Poor Eonwe
Haldir V: good luck
Eonwe Valar: Thanks. I'll need it.
VardaValar1: I hope you guys read the rp. We put a lot of work into it : )
Haldir V: which part
ArPharazonV: all of it, Haldir! we put a lot of work in all of it!
ArPharazonV: unless you were talking to Eonwe...
Haldir V: no no that answer was good
Haldir V: i will read all of it , in fact i have begun already
ArPharazonV: oh, that's nice
ArPharazonV: thinking of joining us?
Haldir V has left the room.
FladrifV: ?
ArPharazonV: anyone still here?
Eonwe Valar: I am
VardaValar1: I am here
FladrifV: *wave*
Eonwe Valar: trying to recover what was lost
Ugluk of Old: me to
VardaValar1: Handling side windows : )
Eonwe Valar: so far, not too bad.
VardaValar1: Go Eonwe!
Eonwe Valar: don't think I missed anything yet.
VardaValar1: yay : )
ArPharazonV: well, allright then, not alone... anyone have anything to talk about?
VardaValar1: Ugluk is trying to send me a file and I'm having trouble downloading it
Eonwe Valar: the defenses of Dale :}
VardaValar1: Aye : )
VardaValar1: Phar, how would Dale defend itself?
ArPharazonV: well
Eonwe Valar: What kind of ruckus would it cause to see a Dwarf surrounded by Elves in Dale? What kind of ruckus would it cause seeing a Mirkwood Elf in Dale? (unrelated discussions to the one named above)
ArPharazonV: it would probably take advantage from its geographical environment
ArPharazonV: mountain to the north, filled with allies
ArPharazonV: if I could actually find my copy of the hobbit or the map in it right now, I could say more
ArPharazonV: *searches franticly*
FladrifV: /yawn
FladrifV: /me wants a wow command addon
VardaValar1: This is during the time scouts were sent ahead of the Fellowship, going out from Rivendell, looking for a safe path.
VardaValar1: We are in After-meeting : )
Eonwe Valar: What about defenses that may have been implemented recently i.e. near the WotR?
ArPharazonV: silm on this side... UT on the other.. rotk in that corner... nothing in the other corner...
VardaValar1: They've had the Battle of Five Armies, but now the orcs have returned again
FladrifV: namarie
ArPharazonV: Namarie
VardaValar1: Namarie?
FladrifV: its kinda late here :-)
Eonwe Valar: sleep well
Ugluk of Old: namarie
VardaValar1: Namarie : )
ArPharazonV: true, I'll be leaving about 20 minutes from now as well
FladrifV: ((1:49 am))
Ugluk of Old: ya a little late :-)
VardaValar1: Go to bed! : )
ArPharazonV: to the best of my recollection, Dale is basically surrounded by river on one side and mountain on the other, right?
FladrifV: Zzzz
FladrifV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: still leaves some open spaces, and rivers can be crossed.
VardaValar1: Dwarves of the Lonely Mountain would have defenses for their mountain
ArPharazonV: with the dwarves flourishing again, the mountain would be quite defended by Dwarves, with guardposts all over the ridges etc
ArPharazonV: would they suspect anything large to come from the east?
VardaValar1: Would they also defend the town at all? Maybe just if called?
ArPharazonV: I'd say the Dwarves and Men would be quite close allies
ArPharazonV: and since the distance was quite small...
ArPharazonV: you'd think they'd hear the ruckus soon enough, and join if it was a common enemy at least, if not all the time
VardaValar1: We might get a faint clue from the defense they put up barely mentioned happening during the Return of the King
ArPharazonV: indeed, where the two Kings fell side by side, right?
ArPharazonV: here's a quote:
ArPharazonV: "At the same time as the great armies besieged Minas Tirith a host of the allies of Sauron that had long threatened the borders of King Brand crossed the River Carnen, and Brand was driven back to Dale.
ArPharazonV: There he had the aid of the Dwarves of Erebor; and there was a great battle at the Mountain's feet. It lasted three days, but in the end both King Brand and King Dáin Ironfoot were slain, and the Easterlings had the victory.
ArPharazonV: But they could not take the Gate, and many, both Dwarves and Men, took refuge in Erebor, and there withstood a siege.
ArPharazonV: When news came of the great victories in the South, then Sauron's army was filled with dismay; and the besieged came forth and routed them, and the remnant fled into the East and troubled Dale no more."
ArPharazonV: end quote, with a discription of the new Kings and their friendship with Gondor.
ArPharazonV: it says he was driven back to Dale, that would (quite obviously, looking back on it) imply that the defenses were far more outward than just Dale
ArPharazonV: would the Dwarves have assisted in those outlying defenses as well?
VardaValar1: Ugluk found this Gandalf pic:
ArPharazonV: it also means our party may come across regiments of Men and Dwarves long before reaching the actual Mountain
VardaValar1: mage.rb?id=3646&pn=0
ArPharazonV: that's... interesting..
Eonwe Valar: Towards Mirkwood it might not be so heavily defended in the early stages.
Eonwe Valar: hasn't been updated in ant least a year last I heard.
Eonwe Valar: er, last I saw.
ArPharazonV: looking at the picture, I'd say it takes place in the depths below the mountains, if this is Lotr-material
ArPharazonV: against some of the unspeakable evils there
ArPharazonV: don't know what to make of the apparently wooden door, however
VardaValar1: So there's a Gate, both armies working together, and they can pull back into the Lonely Mountain.
VardaValar1: Could be the door that Gandalf closed against the Balrog?
ArPharazonV: a door? *flips open TT*
Eonwe Valar: I figure that is the Balrog :}
VardaValar1: Could be a friend of the Watcher in the Water at the outside Gate?
VardaValar1: a great Orc-chieftain?
ArPharazonV: yes, it could be the Balrog, its flames extinguished
VardaValar1: It's walking through water
ArPharazonV: an Orc-chieftain? with a tail?
VardaValar1: The bottom of the fall?
ArPharazonV: "His fire was quenched, but now he was a thing of slime, stronger than a strangling snake."
ArPharazonV: "We fought far under the living earth, where time is not counted. Ever he clutched me, and ever I hewed him, till at last he fled into dark tunnels."
VardaValar1: tunnels might have doors
ArPharazonV: "They were not made by Durin's folk, Gimli son of Glóin. Far, far below the deepest delvings of the Dwarves, the world is gnawed by nameless things. Even Sauron knows them not. They are older than he."
ArPharazonV: in that case, no doors ;-)
ArPharazonV: although it may have been the entrance to the Endless Stair, but in that case the water we see is not the water they fell in.
VardaValar1: Dwarves probably would make rock doors. This one's wood
ArPharazonV: you're saying the nameless things knew how to make wooden doors?
VardaValar1: You're saying they knew how to tunnel through solid rock and make endless stairs?
ArPharazonV: I don't think they made the endless stairs, just the tunnels up to the stairs
ArPharazonV: but I do think they knew how to tunnel/claw/gnaw their way through solid rock during those long ages
VardaValar1: So they could make tunnels but not doors? Nutty technology
ArPharazonV: I do not actually see them as humanoids
ArPharazonV: moles make tunnels through the earth, I cannot see them make wooden doors
VardaValar1: or stairs?
ArPharazonV: as I said, I don't think they made the stairs... that the Dwarves had made it long ago, perhaps, and thus it entered their legends, but that it stopped when they entered the darker tunnels, and they did not speak of it again
Eonwe Valar: perhaps orcs made the stuff down there.
Eonwe Valar: Dwarves weren't the only ones digging deep. Angband and Utumno were very deep places.
ArPharazonV: "Long has that been lost, said Gimli. Many have said that it was never made save in legend, but others say that it was destroyed."
ArPharazonV: if the Dwarves did not actually make it, they certainly discovered it..
Eonwe Valar: ok, then Dwarves made it :}
Eonwe Valar: from the bottom of Moria to the Top.
ArPharazonV: yup
Eonwe Valar: you'll excuse me if I'm not completely in on the conversation. I just finished my post to the RP.
ArPharazonV: nice! a bit similar to the other one?
VardaValar1: They were not made by Durin's folk, Gimli son of Glóin. Far, far below the deepest delvings of the Dwarves, the world is gnawed by nameless things. Even Sauron knows them not. They are older than he."
VardaValar1: Eonwe, do your post. No problem : )
ArPharazonV: that's about the tunnels, Varda, not about the stairs
ArPharazonV: after all, it is also said:
Eonwe Valar: It gets the major points across at least. I don't think I missed anything in the rewrite.
VardaValar1: How can something on Arda be older than Sauron?
VardaValar1: Thanks Eonwe : )
ArPharazonV: "Thus he brought me back at last to the secret ways of Khazad-Dum: too well he knew them all. Ever up now we went, until we came to the Endless Stair."
VardaValar1: Sauron's a Maia
ArPharazonV: true, Varda, but perhaps the nameless things came to Arda before he did, and were Maia themselves in origin
ArPharazonV: or Gandalf just speaks of their age on Arda, just saying they were there before Sauron arrived
ArPharazonV: and after all, the Ainur were not all made at the same time... for example, the book of Lost Tales speaks of the Eldest, "time" ;-)
VardaValar1: I think the Nameless things are Maiar also : )
ArPharazonV: which is part of a story I'd also like to bring up as topic once in the future
ArPharazonV: the story about the three visitors instating days, months, and years...
ArPharazonV: servants of the eldest of the Ainur, who remains with Eru
ArPharazonV: but back on-topic, yes, the nameless things are probably Maiar
VardaValar1: The Valar of Time
ArPharazonV: eys
ArPharazonV: *yes
ArPharazonV: anyway, maybe that's something for next week, unless we want to continue with this one... either way, I'm heading out
Eonwe Valar: btw
VardaValar1: See you later, Phar : )
Eonwe Valar: If anyone was looking to enter as a Noldo, the spot has opened.
Eonwe Valar: Just remember to be believable :}
VardaValar1: Cool!
Eonwe Valar: Balance your own character :}
ArPharazonV: believable?
VardaValar1: Eonwe's worked hard on his Noldo role-play : )
ArPharazonV: yes, that's one way of putting it
ArPharazonV: Too Many ConnectionsThere are currently too many connections to this server. Please check back again in 30 seconds.
Eonwe Valar: Don't make some uber Balrog-slayer
Eonwe Valar: Don't claim to be the love-child of Arien and Fëanor.
Eonwe Valar: don't claim to be the wisest being in all of Arda.
ArPharazonV: ah, you immediately skipped a few days? I'll have to hurry up with Calaron's story then
Eonwe Valar: I decided that was the best transition, aye.
VardaValar1: hehe - right, Eonwe!
VardaValar1: No Mary-Sues or Martin-Sues : )
Eonwe Valar: And those "don'ts" aren't the only ones, but a couple of big ones.
Eonwe Valar: don't claim to be Aragorn's long lost cousin :}
Eonwe Valar: don't claim to be Elrond's long lost cousin :}
VardaValar1: Or fell from a hole in our time to Middle-earth!
Eonwe Valar: Don't claim to be the High-King of the Noldor :}
ArPharazonV: heh, and I was just looking forward to bringing up Earendil's brother...
ArPharazonV: or Elwing's brothers, to be more realistic
Eonwe Valar: That spot, if it belonged to anyone, would be Elrond's
Eonwe Valar: it's mostly assumed Elwing's brothers died in the wild.
ArPharazonV: yes, the word is "assumed" indeed
VardaValar1: Since they don't show up again, not a bad assumption.
Eonwe Valar: Well, it's also "said" that orcs came from elves, but we take that as canon too.
ArPharazonV: perhaps I could make a fanfiction about them... how they survived for years, trying to find their way out, and just as the light was in sight, they were mauled by a group of bears and met their fate
VardaValar1: Sounds like a no-point tale ;-)
VardaValar1: Or very pessimistic
Eonwe Valar: Turin's tale had a happier ending
VardaValar1: ouch
Eonwe Valar: Turin's tale had a happier beginning and middle as well.
ArPharazonV: a question..
ArPharazonV: how long do we anticipate being around Erebor?
Eonwe Valar: between Dale and the Lonely Mountain, 2 or 3 days.
ArPharazonV: I was intending to make Calaron's story happen as we were spending the night at Erebor, but it might be we just spend the night in Dale, talk to a few Dwarves, and head home the next day..
ArPharazonV: 2 or 3 days? ok, that's good
Eonwe Valar: The part I posted shows how Auros will spend the first day there.
Eonwe Valar: The next day will be to Erebor.
Eonwe Valar: You all get a free day, heh :}
VardaValar1: Yay : )
ArPharazonV: ok, I will leave Calaron be, then, making "his" next post for the following day
ArPharazonV: heh, more familiar with the name Calaron now than Calion.. curse you, WoW!
VardaValar1: We go home via the Dimrill Stair according to the Lothlorien border guard, as I remember. That's for later
Eonwe Valar: Dimrill Stair? That's a bit close to Moria, isn't it?
ArPharazonV: yes, pass of Caradhras if I'm not mistaken
VardaValar1: Just what the guys in Lothlorien said, but aye, close to Moria
Eonwe Valar: Those guys in Lothlorien are smart then :}
Eonwe Valar: I wouldn't want to go home by that way :}
ArPharazonV: perhaps your mission is to scout a bit more south as well
Eonwe Valar: Do you mean "we" as in Auros and company, or "we" as in something else?
ArPharazonV: perhaps make contact with Lorien
VardaValar1: We is how I am interpreting it. : )
VardaValar1: It says scouts from Rivendell went back that way
Eonwe Valar: ah
VardaValar1: Gives us something to play with for a route mentioned in the book
Eonwe Valar: true
ArPharazonV: scouts from Rivendell, or all scouts from Rivendell? It does not necessarily mean us
ArPharazonV: well, Auros, that is
ArPharazonV: will we even be accompanying him that way?
VardaValar1: Right. Just some scouts
Eonwe Valar: I thought about ahead south to get back on the great East-West road anyway.
VardaValar1: You're party leader : )
ArPharazonV: that may pose a bit of a problem.. where does our little rp end? I doubt we Mirkwood Elves will go with him to Rivendell, so our ways will part
VardaValar1: Mirkwood elves might want to go check on Thranduil's son. We might even be carrying a message for him
Eonwe Valar: Aye, the Great East-West Road becomes the Forest Road when it enters Mirkwood. We'd probably part ways on the West border.
VardaValar1: We may not ever know the contents of Thranduil's message
Eonwe Valar: that's also possible.
VardaValar1: If we are going to do this until LotRO comes out, we may have to go all the way to Rivendell. ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Well, our time table has been shifted :}
Eonwe Valar: Well, LotRO's :}
VardaValar1: 2006?
Eonwe Valar: It seems now the game will pick up as Frodo leaves Crickhollow.
Eonwe Valar: Check out their FAQ.
ArPharazonV: so we're actually after the game's time schedule now?
Eonwe Valar: Aye, apparently.
Eonwe Valar: but no worries.
Eonwe Valar: Either way, I hoped the story would continue after "Scouting Ahead"
ArPharazonV: the problem with this setting is that we can't really do anything epic or world-changing... we'd be hard put to find interesting adventures after "Scouting Ahead"
VardaValar1: A great deal can happen though
VardaValar1: Dol Guldur had a terrible influence
ArPharazonV: although we might end up actually fighting against Dol Guldur and meeting Lorien after the war's over
ArPharazonV: aye
Eonwe Valar: Well, this is an RP of why our characters would put aside whatever differences they have and join together.
ArPharazonV: there's lots of things to do.. we could even venture into Moria ;-)
VardaValar1: Then the Fellowship would know Moria was dead
ArPharazonV: after the Fellowship gets through, of course
VardaValar1: Aye, Eonwe. One thing we need to show is what differences are pushing us apart, so we can show how we come together
Eonwe Valar: I think I've succeeded in showing Auros' personality :}
ArPharazonV: I'm finding this all very interesting, and want to continue the discussion.. but I really need to go to bed
ArPharazonV: six and a half hours before I have to get up again
Eonwe Valar: sleep well Phar :}
VardaValar1: Good night : )
ArPharazonV: ok, saving
VardaValar1: Aye, Eonwe, you have. : )
VardaValar1: Thanks, Phar
ArPharazonV: I don't feel like I've put down Calion's personality that well
ArPharazonV: he usually acts to my personal mood, as I don't feel like making posts with him acting otherwise than I would
Eonwe Valar: It should be already seen some of the things Auros works to overcome.
ArPharazonV: so he's basically like me, only very limited in what I show of him, and varying over time...
VardaValar1: We are supposed to be role-playing, rather than being ourselves. But to each his own
ArPharazonV: true
ArPharazonV: but I usually do these things without any real effort to put down something before actually using it, like a personality
Eonwe Valar: I treat it like any story I write.
ArPharazonV: so the roleplaying I do is either very stereotyped to what I'd assume he might be, or just not very roleplayish in general
VardaValar1: Get some sleep while you can : )
VardaValar1: I also do it like writing a story.
ArPharazonV: ugh, I will.. but I don't actually write stories that much
Eonwe Valar: Only difference is that I don't have control over all the characters :}
Eonwe Valar: Just sharing how I write it, Phar :}
VardaValar1: Write what works for you, Pharazon
ArPharazonV: sounds good, Varda
ArPharazonV: I just wish I knew what works for me
Eonwe Valar: There should be some level of personality in the characters. Helps them develop whell, and helps people like or hate them :}
Eonwe Valar: *well
VardaValar1: If you want to write a character, get to know him as you would get to know a person
Eonwe Valar: Speaking on the character level, I'm sure Calion isn't that enthused about being around Auros :}
VardaValar1: But right now you need sleep
ArPharazonV: that's because I wouldn't be, Eonwe... but yes, I need sleep
VardaValar1: How would he react to the others, given his background
ArPharazonV: you know what? I'll think about it
VardaValar1: Always good
VardaValar1: How does he consider Haran?
VardaValar1: What does he think of Estarion?
VardaValar1: Sleep on it. : )
VardaValar1: What does your character most want?
ArPharazonV: maybe I'll give this whole Cerebus-syndrom a thought...
ArPharazonV: and develop his character a bit more in the future
Eonwe Valar: Got plenty of time for it :}
Eonwe Valar: As I said, I hope to extend the story beyond Scouting Ahead :}
ArPharazonV: I spend all this time figuring out characters and backgrounds for my wow-characters, I might as well think a bit about Calion's motives
VardaValar1: Aye. Give him at least as much thought. : )
Eonwe Valar:
Eonwe Valar: that's LotRO FAQ
VardaValar1: You could write up a similar thing for Calion
ArPharazonV: aye, I could
VardaValar1: Keep it to yourself or post it to the ooc thread
ArPharazonV: I'll probably write it down in word or something
Eonwe Valar: My Noldo won't even make it into the game.
Eonwe Valar: Only get Silvans.
ArPharazonV: aww
ArPharazonV: anyway, saving for real now..
Eonwe Valar: sleep well and escape while you can :}
ArPharazonV: besides, I don't think your character would have made many friends there
VardaValar1: Flee!
ArPharazonV: saved!
Eonwe Valar: I'm trying to pick particular parts of the FAQ to copy/paste, but it won't let me highlight tidbits.
VardaValar1: Crafting system is a major thing in MMORPG's. It says not discussing crafting yet, stay tuned
Eonwe Valar: level cap is 50
VardaValar1: Only Silvans? That is limited
VardaValar1: aye, at launch
Eonwe Valar: Only SIlvan Elves
Eonwe Valar: still Hobbits, Men, and Dwarves.
ArPharazonV: crafting? maybe we should get our characters a hobby ;-)
VardaValar1: Humans begin the game in the town of Archet, on the edge of the Chetwood Forest.
Eonwe Valar: Apparently Dunedain are considered too powerful :}
VardaValar1: It's like fletching for Fainan
VardaValar1: I took that from EverQuest
VardaValar1: It was a particular craft.
ArPharazonV: I'm not sure if I make my own daggers... but I think I got them in stacks from the royal blacksmith
ArPharazonV: will have to reread that post
VardaValar1: Mounts will not be available at launch, but will be included in a future expansion (probably Rohan).
Eonwe Valar: My first character will likely be a blacksmith, if I can decide what to make now :}
VardaValar1: So they are not going to have the game all that finished. No surprise
VardaValar1: It will launch and expect to finish being made with expansions
VardaValar1: We can meet Barliman Butterbur and Tom Bombadil
Eonwe Valar: that gives at least 2 expansions to include areas from the other 2 books.
Eonwe Valar: Phar, you're not escaping :}
VardaValar1: Pharazon, are you still here? Go! Go! Rest quickly! ;-)
ArPharazonV: just checking my mail to you for spelling etc
VardaValar1: Thank you
ArPharazonV: making sure I have the attachment this time ;-)
VardaValar1: Oh good : )
Eonwe Valar: There will be fast travel options, but the first time you arrive will be on foot.
ArPharazonV: ok, sent
ArPharazonV: Namarie to you both, and to any who are afk or just not contributing
Eonwe Valar: Take care Phar :}
VardaValar1: :-)
ArPharazonV: oh, and Varda...
ArPharazonV: Mara Mesta!
VardaValar1: heheh
VardaValar1: Good bye : )
ArPharazonV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Nice return
Arwen V1 has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: There's still much to be learned about Auros :} Since the beginning of the game has been moved back to when Frodo leaves Crickhollow, it might be an opening for prequel chapters?
VardaValar1: Aiya she who has just returned from Thanksgiving : )
Eonwe Valar: Hey Arwen :}
VardaValar1: Oh, I missed that. All the way back to Crickhollow! Gives much possibility
Arwen V1: =D Hi!
VardaValar1: Sauron says hi : )
Eonwe Valar: hey Sauron :}
Eonwe Valar: darn, I forgot to mention the patch notes and test realm for WoW patch 1.9 was up.
VardaValar1: oh nice : )
VardaValar1: It's now in my transcript to add after Phar's
VardaValar1: or you can email a comment special for the News
VardaValar1: I am not supposed to be the only voice on the News
VardaValar1: You could mention it on the Games page?
VardaValar1: I like the Conjunction
VardaValar1: That is tailor-made for our group : )
VardaValar1: Working together
VardaValar1: Auros as a silvan does not compute.
VardaValar1: It does say High Elves and Dunedain are not initially available.
Eonwe Valar: I just won't bring Auros the Noldo to LotRO if I can't. I've got a couple of other names to choose from for characters.
VardaValar1: One you might use in WoW?
VardaValar1: Sauron says he now thinks of you as Auros instead of Eonwe : )
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Eonwe Valar: Both I've already used in WoW :}
Eonwe Valar: Kalasul and Sulenar
Eonwe Valar: Auros is Eonwë so I guess that's not too bad :}
VardaValar1: Thanks
Eonwe Valar: Or I could use "Eo Claus" :}
VardaValar1: Now that Auros is 60, maybe Sulenar will see some play?
VardaValar1: heheh
VardaValar1: That was a cute story : )
Eonwe Valar: I jokingly made a gnome and named him that :} has a white beard and all :}
Eonwe Valar: Was hoping to be able to access the starting movies for each race by making the character, but found out too late I couldn't because it's just panning the camera in the game.
Eonwe Valar: Auros still has alot to do even at 60, and Kalasul will likely see more playtime than Sulenar.
VardaValar1: Aye. We found a 60 has tons to do, despite the sad comments of some other members
VardaValar1: So we're happy : )
VardaValar1: We seem done here, so feel free to do other things. I know you're busy and appreciate your giving us so much time. : )
Eonwe Valar: I've been back and forth, as can probably be seen by the late response given here :}
VardaValar1: Also back and forth : )
VardaValar1: Quite alright
Xseanzee disco has left the room.
Ugluk of Old has left the room.
Arwen V1 has left the room.
Orodreth V has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya
Orodreth V: Aiya
VardaValar1: Meetings over but welcome to those of us still hanging around : )
Orodreth V: who wants to see my cool background?
Orodreth V: nShot.aspx?ImageIndex=115&Set=0
Orodreth V: :-P
VardaValar1: Now that's a type of Christmas spirit :-)
VardaValar1: Sauron says "Go Protoss"
VardaValar1: I like the blowing sashes
Orodreth V: yea
Orodreth V: my mother hates it.
Orodreth V: it's too cold for her
Orodreth V: :-P
VardaValar1: Over warm here. Need cool thoughts
Orodreth V: we've been getting snow this year
Orodreth V: and it's about time
Orodreth V: no good snow for like 5 years
VardaValar1: Real snow? neat! Where?
Orodreth V: Minnesota, land of the loons. :D
Eonwe Valar: I would like snow for Christmas :}
VardaValar1: How about a shaved ice snowcone, Eonwe?
Eonwe Valar: what flavor? not original I hope :}
VardaValar1: If we want snow, no syrup. I like cherry!
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: I have that pic of the Dark Templar and the Snowtoss :}
VardaValar1: : )
VardaValar1: I can make a drop down box
VardaValar1: I can make a submit button
VardaValar1: but getting the submit button to submit what's in the drop down box is throwing me.
VardaValar1: er, what's selected in the drop down box, I mean
Eonwe Valar: Can't help, I'm afraid
VardaValar1: We have a nice cgi bin on
Eonwe Valar: DOn't know where to begin on that :}
VardaValar1: Supposed to use it somehow or other
VardaValar1: Heh, guess I'll bash my head on it again tomorrow
VardaValar1: Take care : )
Orodreth V: Anyone played CoD2 on the 360?
