ArPharazonV: no, told them when I signed up already that I would have to leave :-)
FarmerMaggotV: Aiya all
Eonwe Valar: Thanks for coming :}
Eonwe Valar: Hey Farmer :}
Eonwe Valar: Everybody say hi to the reading audience :}
ArPharazonV: but at least I got like... 13 dkp today ;-)
ArPharazonV: hi to the reading audience!
ArPharazonV: and, considering I got 70 dkp on Friday, 13 isn't much...
ArPharazonV: but it was fun
FarmerMaggotV: I'll probably be afk, trying to do some fun stuff with the XFire protocol
ArPharazonV: dang, our war3 forums have been hacked
Eonwe Valar: hmm?
Eonwe Valar: The Guild's?
Eonwe Valar: ok
ArPharazonV: the entire forum and all its sections are unavailable.. and I already know it's not just me :-)
Eonwe Valar: I was going to say, I was just at our Forum and nothing seemed out of place to me.
ArPharazonV: neh, this is the forum where I actually hang out the entire day ;-)
Orodreth V: /me mutters about obesssions
ArPharazonV: it's not even a world of warcraft forum, Oro! War3! I thought you would appreciate that!
Eonwe Valar: OK, taking roll
FarmerMaggotV: heh Phar
Eonwe Valar: Varda has guests and some other stuff, so she might not be able to make it tonight.
Eonwe Valar: /roll 100
ArPharazonV: ok, a small thing before the real meeting starts...
Eonwe Valar: *Eonwë rolls 100*
Eonwe Valar: It's great to be me :}
ArPharazonV: some of you are pretty much experts in games etc, right?
Orodreth V: Showoff.
Eonwe Valar: Depends on the game :}
ArPharazonV: now there's a movie I'll link, and in the back you see a
boy at a computer.. I can't identify the game, thought you could
perhaps help ;-)
Eonwe Valar: And the aspect :}
ArPharazonV: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6 739710473912337648&q=chinese
Orodreth V: Ar, I'm an expert in everything. Except CSS and VBS. But don't mention those unholy things. :-P
ArPharazonV: on first glance, I think it's a first person shooter
ArPharazonV: but I can't narrow it further down :-)
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Varda made it, yay :}
ArPharazonV: I just wish the video was a bit clearer.. but it's all I have, and it's sparked my curiosity :-)
VardaValar1: You still get to use the gavel ;-)
Eonwe Valar: np :}
Eonwe Valar: We'll be beginning in a few moments.
GwaihirValar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Whisper Pharazon with the results of his query :}
VardaValar1: Aiya : )
Eonwe Valar: Hey Gwaihir :}
Eonwe Valar: made it in time ;}
Menelvagor Valar: Âiya
Orodreth V: The music..is killing me..
Menelvagor Valar: sorry, but not going to be here in person, I have some wiping at Ragnaros to do :-D
ArPharazonV: you can turn off the sound... it's not the music I want to identify :-)
Eonwe Valar: I see 16 on my Guild list that's on, but those other 6 either can't be invited or haven't accepted the invitation.
VardaValar1: I need a transcript helper
ArPharazonV: will do, Varda, but won't be here until the end, probably... early day tomorrow again
VardaValar1: Anyone else able to do a transcript? I'm on a different computer
Orodreth V: I suppose I COULD turn off timestamps..
Eonwe Valar: I'll send you one as well.
Menelvagor Valar: I can leave on my comp for tonight if needed.
VardaValar1: Thanks Eonwe
VardaValar1: We'll hope that if some drop, others can be used for a quilt : )
Orodreth V: Okay.
Orodreth V: Timestamps off.
Orodreth V: *sniff*
VardaValar1: aww, if it's that traumatic, leave them on. We'll have enough, likely
Srekal86 has entered the room.
Srekal86: /me waves
ArPharazonV: oh, in that case, can I turn them on too?
Eonwe Valar: ok, let's begin.
VardaValar1: I'm hoping Eonwe's works! ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Elen sila lumenn omentielvo!
Eonwe Valar: Membership News:
Eonwe Valar (17:14:17): We had a new Tolkien-Only member join us last week: Alasse Merenrel-(TV)
Eonwe Valar: She became a Tolkien Only member, contributing a couple of stories linked from the news page.
Eonwe Valar: Read them :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other member news?
VardaValar1: Arathorn says hello, he had to go to sleep but misses coming to the meetings
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead, Varda.
VardaValar1: Elwing and Merry are at my house and say hi!
Eonwe Valar: Heya back to them :}
VardaValar1: Fangorn, Sauron, Elwing, and myself went camping this week
VardaValar1: great fun, by the way ;-)
VardaValar1: came back and Eowyn was ill
VardaValar1: Dehydrated, kidneys hurting, nausea, headache
VardaValar1: went to the hospital for an overnight
VardaValar1: home as of last night
VardaValar1: We can finish tending her here better than the hospital can
VardaValar1: She says hi to you all :-)
VardaValar1: Merry and Sauron went to RenFaire yesterday and came back with a pile of medieval musical instruments
Eonwe Valar: Hey to Eowyn and get well soon! :}
VardaValar1: The tootling of flutes and other strange instruments is going on below us
VardaValar1: and they are using a small real crossbow on a dartboard
VardaValar1: They said to say hello also
VardaValar1: That's my news. : )
Eonwe Valar: Isn't that cheating? :}
ArPharazonV: gotta love crossbows..
ArPharazonV: my favorite medieval weapon
VardaValar1: Real fletchets like you get at a gunshop ;-)
VardaValar1: Real metal and wood and proper bowstring
FarmerMaggotV has left the room.
VardaValar1: Enough of that, heh
Eonwe Valar: Heya back to them :}
ArPharazonV: crossbows and swords... if I ever become a knight, I want those two weapons!
Eonwe Valar: Pardon lateness of responses, lagging a bit.
VardaValar1: We have a set of rapiers and a small sword. Elwing has some swords
Eonwe Valar: Any other Member news before we move on?
VardaValar1: Merry has an incredible collection of things
Eonwe Valar: ok, On the Web news:
VardaValar1: I had a birthday and they are making a three layer cake down there
Eonwe Valar: go ahead
VardaValar1: Think that's it
ArPharazonV: bleh, never mind then
Eonwe Valar: Happy Birthday Varda! :}
VardaValar1: Thanks. 52 for the curious. Finally caught up in level to Fangorn ;-)
Eonwe Valar: :}
ArPharazonV: well, I hope for your sake, that 60 isn't the maximum ;-)
VardaValar1: I heard the Expansion allows 70. Let's hope it keeps going up
Eonwe Valar: Last I heard, 20ish was the max level for women. They somehow stop aging after that :}
VardaValar1: Ohh, I must remind them when they put on the candles!
Orodreth V: My parents are higer then you, Varda.
Orodreth V: :-P
Orodreth V: higher*
ArPharazonV: my parents are lower... both nearing 50 now
VardaValar1: May they continue!
Eonwe Valar: :}
ArPharazonV: my mother in december, my dad in february
Menelvagor Valar: First Ragnaros try: 75%, wipe on phase 2, the sons.
ArPharazonV: grats :-)
Eonwe Valar: Ok, on to Web News now :}
Eonwe Valar (17:25:57): Varda has Web News, so her floor now :}
VardaValar1: *polishes, then carefully steps on the floor*
VardaValar1: Tolkien Encyclopedia:
VardaValar1: (I never slip)
VardaValar1: In the Languages section, we now have Orcish
VardaValar1: It includes English(Westron) to Orcish and vice versa
VardaValar1: Oh, here's the link
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/lan g/orcish/Orcish.htm
VardaValar1: It is a mix of Orcish
VardaValar1: as Orcs had Black Speech and dialects of their own
ArPharazonV: hmm... will you be making an elvish-orcish dictionary too?
Eonwe Valar: Don't think there's enough words in Orcish or Black Speech for such a dictionary.
Ugluk of Old has entered the room.
Ugluk of Old: Aiya!
VardaValar1: And now the Orc enters : )
VardaValar1: We now have an Orcish to English and vice versa dictionary
VardaValar1: on our site under languages
Ugluk of Old: I see that :-)
ArPharazonV: ok, semi-away, gonna write my fifth WoW-background on the THG forum..
VardaValar1: I hope it helps
VardaValar1: On the Stories section:
VardaValar1: 2 new stories by Alasse-(TV), our newest member
VardaValar1: These are the first 2 she's written for online and she requests your comments
VardaValar1: http://valarguild.org/varda/Tolkien/encyc/ficti on/authors/Alasse.htm
VardaValar1: One is The Choice of Luthien
VardaValar1: The other is Namarie, Arwen
VardaValar1: Both are short stories
VardaValar1: In fact, all our writers and artists enjoy feedback
Orodreth V: This is going to be really confusing. I bet I can guess her real name though.
Orodreth V: And yes we do.
Orodreth V: cough.
VardaValar1: If you can't reach them, a comment to put on the website is kind
VardaValar1: or a cc to me to put on the website
VardaValar1: That's my news
Eonwe Valar: Thanks.
Eonwe Valar: Any other Web News?
Eonwe Valar: Or should I enter a shameless plug to send in your Gaming info here? :}
Eonwe Valar: ok, on to Gaming then :}
VardaValar1: *you just did!*
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: Gaming News:
Eonwe Valar (17:35:53): Eonwë, Arathorn, and Arwen got together to complete
some of the quests in Uldaman for Arwen. It was getting late so we
didn't go into the instance, but we took care of pretty much everything
outside the instance.
Eonwe Valar: We dealt with Shadowforge, got the Power Stones, the amulet, and I think the tablet of Ryun'eh.
Eonwe Valar: Any more Guild questing on Lothar Friday?
VardaValar1: Not that, but other Lotharian news
Eonwe Valar: ok, go ahead.
VardaValar1: Gilraen and Gwaihir, who are here in this meeting now
(yay) came into Lothar today and Gilraen now has two characters in the
branch : )
VardaValar1: Raenna and a renamed Suralda. Is that right, Gilraen?
GwaihirValar: no, the renamed Suralda is mine :-)
GwaihirValar: Gilraen is hers
GwaihirValar: Raenna ya... lol *blinkS*
GwaihirValar: wow, I must be tired lol
GwaihirValar: anyways, yes, Suralda is one of my chars, while Raenna is hers :-)
VardaValar1: The old Suralda was hers and is now yours?
VardaValar1: Or you are playing it for her for now?
GwaihirValar: well, the old Suralda was created on my account as a character for her to play
GwaihirValar: while she was visitin
GwaihirValar: but it was actually my character, she just played it most ;-)
VardaValar1: ah thanks
VardaValar1: What does Suralda mean?
GwaihirValar: pardon me if I don't remember accurately, but I believe it came to something like 'living wind'
VardaValar1: If it didn't mean that, it should : )
GilraenV: I think so.
VardaValar1: I'm done
GilraenV: I have to go sleep now. work in the morning, bah
GilraenV: Namarie, folks :-)
GwaihirValar: I can look it up if you'd like, but I believe it was
something like that... we were looking for a way to make a druidic
sounding name that had some element from gwaihir ;-)
Ugluk of Old: Namarie
GwaihirValar: namarie :-)
GilraenV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Any more news from Lothar?
VardaValar1: We had over 7 on today : )
Eonwe Valar: good! :}
Xseanzee disco has entered the room.
GwaihirValar: good news from the world of my character on Shattered
hand... the guild he is in is currently attempting to down Nefarian,
having downed Ebonroc, Flamegor, and Chromaggus for the first times
this week :-)
Eonwe Valar: congrats :}
Menelvagor Valar: grats!
Menelvagor Valar: have they downed Raggy yet?
Eonwe Valar: It'll be great when the Valar Guild gets there :}
GwaihirValar: We've been farming molten core for about 4-5 months now :-)
GwaihirValar: got our first rag kill a while back...
ArPharazonV: haha... I don't think you can get so far in BWL without being able to finish off Raggy
Menelvagor Valar: 2 or 3 months here, but then again, you guys have a 4 month headstart.
GwaihirValar: Ragnaros is nothing compared to some of the bosses in blackwing lair... some of those fights are pretty insane :-)
Eonwe Valar: Any WoW news from our Valar Guild members in Europe?
ArPharazonV: well, I finished up writing backgrounds for half of my
characters... as for ingame, the dual raid I mentioned last week didn't
turn out to be a grand succes
Menelvagor Valar: well, we did manage to catch a glimpse of Ragnaros today :-)
ArPharazonV: most of the players wanted to join for the same days, and
the other group didn't even get Luci down... or did they yesterday? not
Menelvagor Valar: we died impressively at the first spawn of the Sons of Flame.
ArPharazonV: oh, wait, yesterday didn't happen, too few people
Menelvagor Valar: yesterday didn't happen, no.
Menelvagor Valar: and well, thursday we made a valiant effort.
ArPharazonV: yes, I heard... 30%? not bad, for a group with such shortage of characters
Menelvagor Valar: 27 people on Luci.
Menelvagor Valar: massive healer shortage too.
ArPharazonV: I bet )
Menelvagor Valar: and the fact that half of the raid were new people.
ArPharazonV: they also got Onyxia on the second try on Tuesday, a few more weeks and she'll be officially on farming status...
Menelvagor Valar: hehe
Eonwe Valar: congrats :}
Menelvagor Valar: Majordomo in 2 tries today, so he's basically farmboy now.
ArPharazonV: now I just have to be there once, and I can get my stormrage cover ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: in a month or so, Ragnaros will be a farmboy as well.
ArPharazonV: Major and Onyxia have been officially beaten
Menelvagor Valar: not until we do Majordomo in without a wipe.
ArPharazonV: and after Raggy is a farmboy, we can start making progress in Blackwing Lair....
Eonwe Valar: If we could get all our Guild members playing WoW together
on Lothar, we'd be short maybe 4 people of a 40 man raid :}
Eonwe Valar: rough estimate :}
GwaihirValar: nice :-)
Menelvagor Valar: and considering we're quite the teamplayers, we might even down Shazz in a single night :-)
Eonwe Valar: The trick is getting everyone on Lothar :}
ArPharazonV: and at the same time :-)
ArPharazonV: global raiding is a bit tough with timezones like ours
VardaValar1: Gil-galad is having comp problems, looks like bad hardware on the new stuff
ArPharazonV: a difference of 6 hours is not good for 3-4 hour raids
Eonwe Valar: I'm sure we'd be able to work something out once we got there.
VardaValar1: We have people with a lot of weird hours
Menelvagor Valar: well, if we'd start early on a saturday, perhaps.
VardaValar1: College students expecially
VardaValar1: or short meetings ; )
Eonwe Valar: Not to cut this too abruptly, but we also have gaming news from Orodreth
Menelvagor Valar: farming?
Menelvagor Valar: whoops
Menelvagor Valar: gaming 8-)
Menelvagor Valar: O:-)
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead Orodreth :}
Orodreth V: After my last bot went down, I lost my extra key to have a binary bot in the Valar channel
Orodreth V: well, I gave up and am using my own for-play key, so we now have a bot in Valar on B.net east.
Orodreth V: I'm working on making a script that will let you see what valar members are on for a specific game.
VardaValar1: Good timing. We are now in the Activity check
Eonwe Valar: That'll be a great tool for Guild members who play on bnet.
VardaValar1: Anyone who pops into Valar channel in Bnet could have a
chance to be considered active, even if email refuses to work
Orodreth V: Anyone who plays on B.net, any game, no matter how often, please check in at Valar
Orodreth V: That way I can get your name added to the list.
Xseanzee disco has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Aye, you can't add it unless you see the account, right?
Orodreth V: and I can pass along any messages to Varda/Eonwe if you whisper them to the bot
Orodreth V: Correct
Glorfindel VG has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Glorfindel!
Glorfindel VG: Aiya!
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Orodreth :} I'm sure that will be quite useful :}
Orodreth V: But there is a mail system, if you know their account name.
Note that the bot is on a SC key, so you'll have to add @azeroth to any
VardaValar1: Or go in with SC ;-)
Orodreth V: (if you're on WC3)
VardaValar1: Diablo players, please use Valar channel, even though it's so easy to go from the lobby straight to Arda gaming
VardaValar1: Diablo 1 can't even enter Valar
Orodreth V: Just another plea for epople who still game on bnet to pop in the Valar channel, even if you use alt accounts.
Orodreth V: That's all for me.
VardaValar1: Thanks, Orodreth!
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Orodreth :}
Eonwe Valar: So all you Guild guys on bnet start using channel Valar again if you don't still :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other gaming news?
Eonwe Valar: Whisper Tolkien topics as well or you'll get mine :}
Eonwe Valar: Everyone who fell asleep during WoW news needs to wake up for Tolkien as it's coming up :}
ArPharazonV: I'm awake, I'm awake... just working on the bio I mentioned earlier
Eonwe Valar: OK, here we go :}
Eonwe Valar (18:08:56): Everyone remembers the end of Return of the King right? The Eagles came to help in the battle?
ArPharazonV: "The Eagles are coming! The Eagles are coming!" ..yes, I remember
Eonwe Valar: Good, that's at least 2 of us :}
ArPharazonV: and Pippin, buried under an orc chieftain, thought he was dying and hallucinating, before he passed out
Eonwe Valar: Then the Eagles went to search for Frodo and Sam.
Eonwe Valar: Everyone remember which eagles went?
Eonwe Valar: I hope Gwaihir knows the answer (hint hint) :}
ArPharazonV: Gwaihir, Landroval.... and some other
ArPharazonV: I believe the third one was unnamed?
Eonwe Valar: no, he was named :}
Eonwe Valar: Everyone else remembers this, right?
Orodreth V: *chorus* Yes, Eonwe.
VardaValar1: er, um
ArPharazonV: "And he (Gwaihir) lifted up Gandalf and sped away south, and with him went Landroval, and Meneldor young and swift."
Eonwe Valar: Thanks for the quote :}
Eonwe Valar: So, why send 3 Eagles?
Orodreth V: Er, why not?
ArPharazonV: one for Gandalf, one for Frodo, one for Sam?
VardaValar1: Just in case?
Eonwe Valar: in case of what?
VardaValar1: Might be hit by flying ejecta
Eonwe Valar: perhaps
VardaValar1: They were in mortal forms
ArPharazonV: the way Eagle-claws are positioned, it's hard to take
Frodo in one and Sam in another without having their heads bash into
each other in flight...
Eonwe Valar: Aye, but that's easily a job for 2 eagles.
VardaValar1: Gollum : )
ArPharazonV: although, of course, Gwaihir could have taken one, even with Gandalf on his back..
ArPharazonV: yes, Gollum perhaps
VardaValar1: Gollum came within a hair of changing over to a good guy
Eonwe Valar: Why send an Eagle for Gollum?
ArPharazonV: he was close to reforming permanently at several
occasions, Gandalf probably held it in account that he could have
changed sides by the time the Ring went down
ArPharazonV: and if Gollum/Smeagol was good, and freed from the Ring, why would you abandon him at Mount Doom?
VardaValar1: Intriguing thought though
VardaValar1: Another thing showing that destiny is not completely set, and we have freedom of choice
VardaValar1: in M-e, pardon ;-)
ArPharazonV: Even the very wise cannot see all ends ;-)
VardaValar1: "We" gets confusing when we role-play
Eonwe Valar: aye :}
Eonwe Valar: So how does this fit in the themes of Lord of the Rings?
VardaValar1: Freedom of choice being one
VardaValar1: Hope a strong one
VardaValar1: Forgiveness is available
VardaValar1: Mercy, Pity
Eonwe Valar: Any others?
Eonwe Valar: Perhaps some of you could elaborate on the above examples?
VardaValar1: What themes are there in LotR that this could be going with?
VardaValar1: Hoping that Gollum will redeem himself
VardaValar1: Redemption, that's one. Grima and Sauron and Saruman were all offered chances to redeem themselves
ArPharazonV: Forgiving him if he would, and save him from certain death
VardaValar1: Osse is one of the few who did at a high level
ArPharazonV: oh, here's something... if Gollum had remained evil, but
not fallen into the lava, but was captured by Frodo and Sam...
ArPharazonV: would they have taken him with them, or left him to die?
ArPharazonV: "Aghh! Nasty birds! They hurts us! Send them away!"
VardaValar1: The eagles would have the choice to not take him. But that's an intriguing moral dilemma
Eonwe Valar: Frodo might've been able to convince him it was ok.
VardaValar1: They probably would have taken him. Mercy, Pity
Eonwe Valar: The Eagles didn't let 13 squirmy complaining Dwarves drop :}
ArPharazonV: true :-)
VardaValar1: Haul him by rope, fussing all the way!
VardaValar1: Pardon me, going to go have birthday cake
Eonwe Valar: If they had any rope, it would've been Elvish :} not much help there :}
VardaValar1: five of us heading downstairs to join the others
Eonwe Valar: ok :}
VardaValar1: Let him holler, beats dying
Eonwe Valar: Happy Birthday! :}
Ugluk of Old: But the ring would have been distroyed...would the power of evil be gon then and Gollum be some what re-newed?
Ugluk of Old: gone
Eonwe Valar: hmm
Eonwe Valar: How was Frodo in the moments after the Ring's destruction?
VardaValar1: It helped Bilbo to be away from the Ring
VardaValar1: right away
Eonwe Valar: True
VardaValar1: Will scroll
ArPharazonV: Gollum had the Ring for 500 years
ArPharazonV: I find it hard to believe its destruction would have immediately bettered him, in those few precious minutes
Eonwe Valar: Gollum might've felt too tired after the Ring was destroyed to argue much against the Eagles carrying him.
ArPharazonV: (pun not intended)
Eonwe Valar: If Gollum had turned good and stayed, he would've begun to regain some of his own will.
Ugluk of Old: The shadow would have passed...
Eonwe Valar: He would've been fighting the Ring in his own manner.
Eonwe Valar: Gollum had been successful for a while up until the dealings with the Rangers of Ithilien.
Eonwe Valar: Aye, Ugluk.
Ugluk of Old: It wouldn't be his primary pre-occupation
Eonwe Valar: Aye
Ugluk of Old: I don't know...I may hold out more hope :-)
Eonwe Valar: He may still have struggled with it, but he might've been free enough.
Eonwe Valar: If he had gained back some of his own will, the rope may not be necessary.
Eonwe Valar: Hope is a theme in LotR, so no problems having that for the characters :}
Eonwe Valar: Any other thoughts on this matter?
Ugluk of Old: 500 years is a long time though....to have only one thing to focus on. There is plenty of room for speculation :-)
Eonwe Valar: Aye :}
Eonwe Valar (18:41:44): Well, if there's no more to add, I guess
I'll declare the meeting adjourned and we can move into Aftermeeting.
ArPharazonV: anyone identified the game in the video yet?
Eonwe Valar: I haven't looked at it. I'm doing too much right now for my modem to be able to handle that easily.
ArPharazonV: for the new people, I'm taking about http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6 739710473912337648&q=chinese
ArPharazonV: there's a guy sitting in the background, playing some game, a first person shooter to my guess
ArPharazonV: hard to see, but I wondered if any of you could narrow it down further ;-)
Eonwe Valar: afk momentarily
Orodreth V: Ar, it's a FPS for sure. But my best guess is RtCW:ET
Orodreth V: But there's a plethora of FPS that I havn't played.
Orodreth V: I did note that there was little or no hud, and I couldn't
see any messages, so he might have been in single player, which rules
Orodreth V: Anyways, I need to reboot.
ArPharazonV: ok, thanks
Orodreth V: If anyone's up for WC3/TFT after..
Orodreth V has left the room.
ArPharazonV: it's as good a guess as any I could expect from such a low quality, and it's good to have at least one clue ;-)
Eonwe Valar: back
ArPharazonV: I asked the same question at the forum I mentioned earlier, where I found the link
ArPharazonV: but as I said, it's hacked and unavailable.. perhaps tomorrow may bring answers, literally :-)
Eonwe Valar: In further After-Meeting news, I learned Friday there is a muscian or band that goes by the name "Hobbit" :}
Ugluk of Old: new band or old?
Eonwe Valar: don't know
Ugluk of Old: maybe it's Peter Jackson's own band :-)
Eonwe Valar: hehe
ArPharazonV: Caliona's background is finished!
Srekal86: oh if anyone's up for tolkien trivia on irc, let me know.
ArPharazonV: my new night elf hunter has a bio... just 3 characters to go
Menelvagor Valar: ok, time for bed.
Menelvagor Valar: do I have to leave my comp on to get the entire transcript?
ArPharazonV: well, most of us are still here, but if you don't mind, it could be best to not skip any measures :-)
bnetValar: Orodreth-V (Bnet): Anyone still alive?
bnetValar: Orodreth-V (Bnet): Oh, that measn you can get on WC3. :-D
Ugluk of Old: yep
Menelvagor Valar: yep and nope to both questions in that order.
ArPharazonV: same here
ArPharazonV: I can get on WC3, I suppose, but I'd have to reinstall it first, haven't played it since the harddisk-switch
Eonwe Valar: hmm somehow I am using 100% of my processor's capability. SOunds like time for a restart to me.
ArPharazonV: and after I'm on, I'd have to go again soon, early day tomorrow :-)
Eonwe Valar: ok.... I shut down internet explorer and my CPU usage shoots to 14%.
Eonwe Valar: Altavista searches must eat up some serious processing power.
Srekal86: its not altavista as much as it is the browser itself.
Menelvagor Valar: well, it does search GigaTerraMegaMagnibytes of data :-D
Eonwe Valar: Well, I'm using Yahoo for searching now, and I'm having my usual CPU levels.
Srekal86: lol, your not going to see a difference in cpu levels just based on the search engine you use :p
Eonwe Valar: I always use IE, so that's not a factor.
Menelvagor Valar: that's because Yahoo searches within its own database
first, and from thereon out, thus eliminating all the useless crap
Eonwe Valar: I know that, but I find it awefully interesting that while
I was using Altavista, I was at 100% and lagging. Now I'm not.
Menelvagor Valar: anyways, time for bed, gotta be up in 5 hours.
Menelvagor Valar: and btw!
Eonwe Valar: sleep well Menel :}
Eonwe Valar: yes?
Menelvagor Valar: I expect a surprise party in 2 weeks for my 6th anniversary !
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Menelvagor Valar: 16 days and counting :-)
Eonwe Valar: I didn't get one last week, so why should you? :}
Eonwe Valar: Anyway, Happy early Anniversary :}
Menelvagor Valar: because you didn't announce it :-D
Eonwe Valar: hehe
ArPharazonV: I didn't get one either... blasted guild-anniversary being on the same date...
Eonwe Valar: Oh, I have to announce it now :}
ArPharazonV: doesn't matter though, I was in France at the time ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: Happy belated Anniversary, Eonwe!
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
ArPharazonV: Happy Early/belated Anniversaries, Menelvagor and Eonwe!
Menelvagor Valar: thanks, and nighty night
Eonwe Valar: And Happy Anniversary, Phar, in case I missed saying it earlier :}
Ugluk of Old: Happy days to come...
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well Menel :}
Ugluk of Old: Namarie
Eonwe Valar: Now to turn my attention to other things as well. I'll
still be here so might catch conversations every now and then.
ArPharazonV: heh, Namarie to you too then
ArPharazonV: and to everyone, btw, since it's time for me to go
Eonwe Valar: Sleep well Phar
Ugluk of Old: take care...
ArPharazonV: I have to get up even earlier than usual tomorrow, since
I'm home alone for the weekend, and thus I have a cat, fishes, and some
other things to take care of in the morning..
Eonwe Valar: Take care and see you next week, unless you decide to buy
a US copy of WoW and come over to Lothar, in which case I'll see you
Eonwe Valar: (I kid :})
ArPharazonV: Friday? Hah! Friday I'll be in MC with the High Guard... trying to get my Cenarion Spaulders
ArPharazonV: every other druid in our group has one now, and I'm one of the few with the helm ;-)
ArPharazonV: so it's time I got those leafy shoulders
bnetValar: Orodreth-V (Bnet): can someone send me an invite on AIM?
Eonwe Valar: But why, when you could be killing grellkin? :}
bnetValar: Orodreth-V (Bnet): My bot needs to go back to its home. :-)
ArPharazonV: you're invited, Oro
bnetValar: Orodreth-V (Bnet): thankee
Orodreth V has entered the room.
Orodreth V: I do have the entire meeting, or should.
Orodreth V: Let me check..
Orodreth V: Yea
Orodreth V: hmm
Orodreth V: short meeting
ArPharazonV: ok then, saving and sending
Orodreth V: seemed longer in aim
VardaValar1: Thank you!
Eonwe Valar: It's always long to me :}
Eonwe Valar: wb Varda :}
Orodreth V: I'll go cut it into its own chat now
Orodreth V: okay
Srekal86 has left the room.
Orodreth V: cut from the greeting to the aftermeeting declaration
Orodreth V: sent
ArPharazonV: tomorrow I'll start work on the brother and sister from
Gnomeregan in my backgrounds... I've largely worked them out in my mind
already, and it should make quite an interesting story :-)
ArPharazonV: I'm actually quite capable of writing shorter stories,
given a reasonably static background, like the one in Warcraft...
Orodreth V: Mm.
ArPharazonV: so I might think about writing a few for the Guild as well, when I get inspiration
Orodreth V: /me is playing: America - *[America's Greatest Hits]* Ventura Highway
ArPharazonV: /me is playing C. Mansell - Requiem for a dream
Orodreth V: Anyone here use xfire?
ArPharazonV: not me
ArPharazonV: and it seems we're the only one still fully present here :-)
Orodreth V: /me is playing: Creedence Clearwater Revival - *[Greatest Hits]* Up Around The Bend
Orodreth V: /me is going through his 70's collection
Orodreth V: well, late sixties
Eonwe Valar: CCR is good
ArPharazonV: and, of course, I won't get "I want it that way" out of my head for several days ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Backstreet Boys?
ArPharazonV: yeah, from that movie
Eonwe Valar: Which movie?
ArPharazonV: the video I linked is about 2 Chinese students playbacking on the song
Eonwe Valar: ah
Orodreth V: Yuck. 90s pop.
Eonwe Valar: Some pop isn't too bad.
Eonwe Valar: Just like not all rock is good.
ArPharazonV: yeah, well, I wanted to know the game, so I watched over
and over again, and since I don't actually hate the song itself, I
didn't turn the sound off
ArPharazonV: so now it's in my head :-)
Orodreth V: Eonwe, 90% of 90s pop is terrible.
Orodreth V: Some is good yes.
Orodreth V: I can't think of anything off the top of my head..
Orodreth V: but I'm sure some is. :-P
ArPharazonV: I don't really hate that many songs, or genres...
ArPharazonV: I generally dislike rap, soul, and many "extreme" forms of metal and rock
Eonwe Valar: Well, assuming that 90% is made up of boy "bands" or any variation on that theme, I'd tend to agree.
ArPharazonV: the rest I find tolerable, mostly
Eonwe Valar: Rap, Country, and some heavy metal are out in my book.
Orodreth V: Eonwe: Here, here.
Eonwe Valar: Blind Guardian does some good music though
Orodreth V: I have The Beatles to the Ramones, America to The Who.
Orodreth V: Generally anything 70's, most 60's and some 80's pop/rock.
ArPharazonV: I'm not one of those people who wants to tear his ears off
at the sound of BSB or Britney Spears... not a fan, but I don't hate it
Eonwe Valar: Id' recommend their music. I tend to describe it as
"Bardic Rock" since they use stories and myths for alot of their
ArPharazonV: Blind Guardian... generally recommended to me
Orodreth V: Some punk, and a very small smidgen of hard rock variants
ArPharazonV: Fladrif brought a cd from them some time ago when he visited me, but I wasn't that fond of it
Eonwe Valar: I picked up A Night at the Opera recently. Not impressive, but has some songs I like on it.
ArPharazonV: my current favorite would be... Nightwish, I guess
Eonwe Valar: Nightfall in Middle Earth is probably the best generally
I've heard, but I acknowledge there's a good chance of bias on that one.
Ugluk of Old: Well....got to go...namarie all!
Eonwe Valar: Take care Ugluk :}
Eonwe Valar: Glad you made it :}
ArPharazonV: I'm curious... what genre would you place Nightwish in?
Eonwe Valar: I haven't heard NIghtwish I don't think.
Ugluk of Old has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: But generally speaking, electric guitar and strong base imply Rock.
Eonwe Valar: base = bass
ArPharazonV: many people call it Gothic, I guess... but it's far better than most gothic things I've heard, IMO
Eonwe Valar: Strong bass and alot of talk imply rap.
Eonwe Valar: Rhythym and sythesized noises implies Techno.
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, Gothic. So it has a dark sound to it?
ArPharazonV: yes, a bit
ArPharazonV: and dark themes, mostly
ArPharazonV: although it seems to have a bit of fantasy in it too
ArPharazonV: I'd call it "mystic", I think
Eonwe Valar: Here, out basic divisions of music are: Rock/Pop, Rap/R&B, Country, and Sonidos Latinos
ArPharazonV: where does metal fall in?
Eonwe Valar: Metal goes with Rock
ArPharazonV: ok, then it's Rock for sure
ArPharazonV: it's either rock, metal, or gothic, I guess... which basically puts it in the same category
Eonwe Valar: Metal is essentially "Hard Rock," maybe a bit "harder" depending on who you're listening to.
Eonwe Valar: Then there's Soft Rock, which is stuff like Jefferson Starship.
Orodreth V: Sixpence none the Ricker is soft rock
Orodreth V: Richer*
Orodreth V: The Who is classic rock
Orodreth V: and Elvis is rock and roll
Eonwe Valar: Aye, the Who is Classic Rock
Eonwe Valar: Well, Elvis I think is "Oldies"
ArPharazonV: what do you think of Rammstein?
Eonwe Valar: Du
Eonwe Valar: Du Hast
Eonwe Valar: Du Hast Mich.
Eonwe Valar: That answer your question? :}
Orodreth V: /me is playing: The Who - *[Who's Next [Deluxe Edition]]* Behind Blue Eyes
ArPharazonV: well, I'm not an expert on them, don't know that many songs of them
Eonwe Valar: I've got a couple of songs I'm trying to translate by Rammstein
Eonwe Valar: Du Hast and Engel.
ArPharazonV: but I have some friends who are fans, and they're a little over the top for me...
ArPharazonV: Rammstein that is, not my friends :-)
Eonwe Valar: The music is good, and if I could get the lyrics down, I might find those interesting too.
Eonwe Valar: But from what I do understand, they may be a bit dark.
Orodreth V: Rammstein was a huge craze around here a year or so back.
Orodreth V: What I don't like is SoaD.
Eonwe Valar: Who?
Eonwe Valar: oh
Orodreth V: They make me want to break my head open.
Eonwe Valar: System of a Down?
ArPharazonV: anyway, I'm outta here
Orodreth V: Yes. *gag*
ArPharazonV: Namarie all
Eonwe Valar: I find some of their songs interesting but really negative.
ArPharazonV: *waits patiently for polite responses*
ArPharazonV: oh well, see ya
ArPharazonV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: Take care Phar :}
Eonwe Valar: Marilyn Manson is just wrong.
Orodreth V: Haha.
Eonwe Valar: Most rap is just wrong.
Orodreth V: Yea.
Orodreth V: Mr. T pities the foo who dosn't like rap! y0!
Eonwe Valar: There probably hasn't been anything close to decent rap since it's early days.
Eonwe Valar: heh
Orodreth V: Isn't that true for most everything?
Eonwe Valar: Once it became all about, well, I'll not get into that,.. it was doomed as a form of music.
Orodreth V: In other news, AC/DC is overrated.
Eonwe Valar: Well, that's a failure of rock too. It became about 3 things, that we've all heard about before.
Orodreth V: The Beatles, however, can only be underrated.
Eonwe Valar: well, 2 of the things became more important than the third :}
Orodreth V: I miss political rock.
Orodreth V: Sadly enough, the most prominent political rock is System of a Down.
Orodreth V: If you can call it that.
Eonwe Valar: System of a Down is pretty political. So is Green Day from what I've heard.
Eonwe Valar: I'm not really interested in getting my politics from
musicians, but I can't deny some of the songs do have decent music.
Orodreth V: Green Day is the ultimate overrated band, right now.
Eonwe Valar: I won't argue that.
Eonwe Valar: But then, I don't have more than 2 cds of any band in my collection except for Blind Guardian.
Eonwe Valar: Fleetwood Mac has 2.
Orodreth V: Now there's a good band.
Eonwe Valar: Aye
Orodreth V: The Eagles are great too.
Eonwe Valar: Not so crazy about their last album though
Orodreth V: As are the Doors.
Eonwe Valar: Fleetwood Mac's that is
Eonwe Valar: The Eagles are good. I've got the Hell Freezes Over CD.
Orodreth V: I heard a song from it, but only like 30 seoncds.
Orodreth V: Sounded alright.
Eonwe Valar: There's some nice guitar on HFO.
Orodreth V: Desperado is a great album. I think it's their best, honestly. Hotel California is good and all, but..
Eonwe Valar: Desperado is one of my favorite songs.
Eonwe Valar: The song Hotel California sounds great on HFO.
Orodreth V: I do like the Last Resort, though.
VardaValar1: I'm sneaking onto WoW
Orodreth V: no, you're sneaking onto WC3. >.>
Eonwe Valar: hmm, remind me of that one?
VardaValar1: the guys all want it, but I'm grabbing some time first
Eonwe Valar: Sneak away Varda :}
Eonwe Valar: Take care and Have fun :}
VardaValar1: I like Nightwish's sound, can hardly understand the words
VardaValar1: Mara mesta : )
VardaValar1 has left the room.
Orodreth V: Take it Easy, take it easy//don't let the sound of your own
wheels drive you crazy//lighten up while you still can, don't even try
to understand//just find a place to make your stand//take it easy
Eonwe Valar: That's called Last Resort?
Orodreth V: ..wait a second
Orodreth V: that is so wrong
Eonwe Valar: Thought that was "Take it Easy."
Orodreth V: what happened to my songs?
Orodreth V: You're right
Eonwe Valar: I like "Take it Easy" though :}
Orodreth V: last resort is totaly different
Orodreth V: how did I not notice that?
Orodreth V: Oh
Orodreth V: I thought it was playing and it wasn't
Orodreth V: >.>
Eonwe Valar: hehe
Orodreth V: Okay, now I'm listening to last resort
Orodreth V: And you can see them there//On Sunday morning//Stand up and
sing about//what it's like up there//they call it paradise//I don't
know why//You call someplace paradise//kiss it goodbye
Eonwe Valar: Hmm, don't recall that one right now, but I'm sure I've heard it.
Orodreth V: One of my fav. songs of all time is..
Orodreth V: /me is playing: Elton John - *[Greatest Hits 1970-2002]* Your Song
Eonwe Valar: Haven't head enough by Elton John to know his works by name.
Orodreth V: ...you've got to be kidding me.
Orodreth V: How can you not know Your Song?
Eonwe Valar: I've heard his music, but I don't knwo them by name
Orodreth V: http://www.eltonography.com/songs/your_s ong.html
Eonwe Valar: If you can give lyrics, I might remember it.
Orodreth V: Too lazy to write them up.
Eonwe Valar: fair enough.
Eonwe Valar: I'd be hard pressed to pick "a" favorite song, but I think
one of the top picks, excluding Blind Gaurdian, would be "Won't Back
Down" by Tom Petty.
Orodreth V: Tom Petty is great.
Orodreth V: Don't know him very well, but what I've heard is very good.
Eonwe Valar: Actually, I take that back about Elton John's music. I'd know it better by music than lyrics, heh.
Eonwe Valar: Refugee, Won't Back Down, Mary Jane's Last Dance, Climb
that Hill (think that's what it's called),... bah I should know more.
Eonwe Valar: This one they had a music video to where he was the Mad Hatter.
Eonwe Valar: (Alice in Wonderland theme)
Orodreth V: Free Fallin is the only song of his I know by name.
Orodreth V: /me is playing: Led Zeppelin - *[Led Zeppelin III]* Immigrant Song
Eonwe Valar: Yeah, Free Fallin
Eonwe Valar: "Last dance with Mary Jane. One more time to kill the pa-a-ain."
Eonwe Valar: "You can stand me up at the gates of Hell but I won't back down."
Orodreth V: I would not have picked you to like Tom Petty, for the record.
Eonwe Valar: Really?
Orodreth V: Nope.
Eonwe Valar: Any particular reason?
Orodreth V: Just from how you act.
Orodreth V: I barely ever talk to you though.
Eonwe Valar: His songs have good music.
Orodreth V: So my perception of you was based on a limited data set. :-P
Eonwe Valar: :}
Eonwe Valar: I listened to alot of classic rock when I was younger, what can I say :}
Eonwe Valar: Not so much now since there's little I haven't heard that peaks my interest on the classic rock stations.
Eonwe Valar: I'd have to say the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac are my top
classic rock favorite bands though, since I like more of their songs
than any other band that comes to mind.
Eonwe Valar: REM are also pretty good, and REO Speedwagon, Kansas, Styx,.. :}
Eonwe Valar: can't forget Genesis. The Police are ok, but not a huge fan of their music.
Eonwe Valar: And Journey :}
Eonwe Valar: Still there Orodreth? :}
Eonwe Valar (20:48:34): afk for a bit
