Transcript team: Ar-Pharazon (untimed section), Menelvagor (shows times in EST), and Varda (summary, webwork)

Attending: (10):
    ArPharazonV, Elros-V/LouieKisKowsKi, Eonwe Valar, Fili-V/patente666gosse, GilraenV, GwaihirValar, Haleth-V/Druidfalconwolf, FarmerMaggot-V/bnetValar, Menelvagor Valar, VardaValar1

Meeting Begins
Time changed in Europe and it is Easter Sunday for the Americas. Surprisingly, we still had enough people for a good meeting. It may only take two or three.  ;)
    Tolkien Encyclopedia
       Friday guild gaming
MeO rp  new players coming onboard
4 topics suggested. Since Menelvagor was the only topic-giver left by chat time, we went with his:
    Menelvagor-(Valar)'s topic:
         Maeglin's treachery.
The other three for other meetings were:
    Fili-(V)'s topic:
Where did Beorn get his ability?
    Haleth-(V)'s two topics:
       Are the Eldar reborn?
In the Silmarillion, were there children of the Valar?
Eonwe improvised a game on the spot: "The Lord of Ferrets".

You have just entered room "Valar Guild Meetingplace."
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
(17:03:36) Druidfalconwolf has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar (17:03:42): welcome :-)
Druidfalconwolf: ty
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Druidfalconwolf: hi
Menelvagor Valar: it seems many people are either busy with Easter, or forgot about DST
ArPharazonV: or it's next week, just like last time
ArPharazonV: which means we're an hour early
Druidfalconwolf: oh
ArPharazonV: but they'll probably show up any minute...
Druidfalconwolf: well, there are 13 people on right now...
ArPharazonV: btw, druidfalconwolf, I hadn't added you to my buddy list... who are you?
Druidfalconwolf: Haleth
ArPharazonV: ah
ArPharazonV: well, you're added now :-)
Druidfalconwolf: cool
ArPharazonV: congratulations, for being... 112th in my list, it seems
Druidfalconwolf: wow
ArPharazonV: yup, 112 people in my list, 93 offline
Druidfalconwolf: 125 here, most of 'em Valar Guild
Druidfalconwolf: 104 are offline
ArPharazonV: you win :-)
Druidfalconwolf: lol :-P
Menelvagor Valar: is that with, or without MSN?
ArPharazonV: without msn
ArPharazonV: pure aim
Druidfalconwolf: same here
Menelvagor Valar: 73 in list, 58 offline
Druidfalconwolf: sry about response rate, I'm doing a bit of research for school project :-\
ArPharazonV: np
ArPharazonV: meeting hasn't even started yet
Druidfalconwolf: lol
ArPharazonV: so, played any games today?
Druidfalconwolf: well, me and my friend fooled around with a map editor
ArPharazonV: a map editor? from what game?
Druidfalconwolf: TFT
ArPharazonV: ah
ArPharazonV: and? made any good maps? :-)
Druidfalconwolf: well, we're working on one, but he wants to build his sound system first
Druidfalconwolf: it's awesome
ArPharazonV: :-)
ArPharazonV: so, too soon for any spoilers?
Druidfalconwolf: lol not really
Druidfalconwolf: it's a gladiator map
Druidfalconwolf: level forty heroes, creeping stuff, Elite stores, Elite heroes, and lots and lots of heroes to choose from in the beginning
ArPharazonV: cool
Menelvagor Valar: are all the heroes balanced?
Druidfalconwolf: that's why it's taking so long
Druidfalconwolf: we're trying to balance it, and I keep coming up with more heroes
Menelvagor Valar: like a lvl 40 DL can hit like crazy with massive damage and lifetap thingy
Druidfalconwolf: well, spellcasters have really low health
Druidfalconwolf: and speed
ArPharazonV: got specific abilities that can be kept improving through 40 levels?
ArPharazonV: or is it that you can just add stats after a certain time?
Druidfalconwolf: umm both
Druidfalconwolf: you have a choice
ArPharazonV: ah, ok
ArPharazonV: but the abilities don't run out after level 20 or so
Druidfalconwolf: nope
Druidfalconwolf: my friend wants 10 levels per spell, but I told him to at least tone down the ultimate spells
ArPharazonV: heh
ArPharazonV: that would be something
ArPharazonV: a lvl 10 ultimate
ArPharazonV: what's it going to be called?
ArPharazonV: the map?
ArPharazonV: so that I can recognize it on bnet
Druidfalconwolf: umm
Druidfalconwolf: won't be done for a while
Druidfalconwolf: but I'll post the news when it's done :-)
ArPharazonV: :-)
ArPharazonV: looking forward to it
ArPharazonV: how many heroes you got so far?
Druidfalconwolf: he's actually created 7, but I sent him ideas for another 10, and have more on the way
ArPharazonV: cool
ArPharazonV: so we'll be looking at at least 20 heroes then
Druidfalconwolf: yup
Druidfalconwolf: more, prolly
ArPharazonV: 've you already made more maps in the past?
Druidfalconwolf: nah
Druidfalconwolf: he has, but this is my first attempt
ArPharazonV: :-)
ArPharazonV: I've never made any myself (except for a very small one to test the powers of Archimonde, in the beginning of RoC)
ArPharazonV: but I've been planning a series of campaigns about ME for a long time, though nothing has come of it yet
ArPharazonV: lazy me...
Druidfalconwolf: lol
ArPharazonV: anyway, I'm going to find a war3 game before the meeting really starts
ArPharazonV: see ya in a few minutes
Druidfalconwolf: kk
Druidfalconwolf: I g2g soon... made a mistake about time, and I'm supposed to walk the dogs
Druidfalconwolf: :-(
ArPharazonV: ouch...
ArPharazonV: will you be back?
Druidfalconwolf: yeah, eventually... hopefully
ArPharazonV: ok
ArPharazonV: well, perhaps until next week
ArPharazonV: perhaps later today
Druidfalconwolf: yeah
Druidfalconwolf: definitely
ArPharazonV: bye
ArPharazonV: namarie :-)
Druidfalconwolf: namarie :-)
Druidfalconwolf: oh yeah... are you still around, Menelvagor?

VardaValar1: Sounds essential. Just ask Huan or Celegorm
VardaValar1: Thanks
Menelvagor Valar: also, on another note, DST has started in Europe, so that it is in fact 6 PM EST here right now
ArPharazonV: aye, it's midnight here :-) instead of 11pm
VardaValar1: That sounds like a reasonable time! Right while you are eating
VardaValar1: Poor Phar
Menelvagor Valar: or DST has ended, I never can tell them apart :-)
VardaValar1: It's 4pm here
GilraenV: all I understand is that I lost an hour's sleep
GilraenV: *sniffs*
Menelvagor Valar: well, it is 12 AM, I just automatically transfer GMT +1 to EST :-)
VardaValar1: You were pretty enough already, Gilraen :-)

GwaihirValar: the week following... from about 4 Central to... god knows when
GwaihirValar: lol

GwaihirValar: I work until 2:30... who knows when I'll get home hehe
VardaValar1: Fangorn sympathizes. He is gone for 2 weeks, home for one. No way to game for those 2 weeks
VardaValar1: We have people playing all night who probably should be asleep also ;-)
Druidfalconwolf: guilty as charged :-P
Menelvagor Valar: *whistles innocently*

VardaValar1: We have a guild get-together every Friday
VardaValar1: Very cool : )
VardaValar1: I did not catch that. Very amusing
ArPharazonV: somehow that sounds kinda obvious... too obvious to recognize :-)
Druidfalconwolf: back... anyway, when's the get-together?
VardaValar1: We will have to watch for more
Menelvagor Valar: caught it on thottbot, while checking out where his camp was, I simply couldn't find it :-)
VardaValar1: Officially at the same time as Sunday meetings, on Lothar
VardaValar1: Do you thiink you could come?
Menelvagor Valar: oh, reminds me, has anyone been to Scarlet Monastery yet?
Druidfalconwolf: Lothar would also be on WoW?
Menelvagor Valar: aye, it's a server on WoW
VardaValar1: Yes, that is the server on WoW that we play in
ArPharazonV: a normal server, US
ArPharazonV: Alliance side
Druidfalconwolf: can't, don't have the game, sorry
GwaihirValar: I've been through Scarlet Monastery a number of times Turgon :-)
VardaValar1: I got killed and graveyarded fairly near it if that counts
VardaValar1: We'll give you time ;-)
GwaihirValar: What dya wanna know about it? :-)
Menelvagor Valar: did you catch the secret boss?
GilraenV: I don't have it either
GwaihirValar: secret boss?
VardaValar1: We thought if we had enough people we would run a Horde group too, but not enough show up
GwaihirValar: you'll have to elaborate... I've killed a lotta bosses in that place
GwaihirValar: lol
Druidfalconwolf: if you waited for another 3 years... :-)
Druidfalconwolf: then I could get it
VardaValar1: We've been here over 7, could happen : )
Menelvagor Valar: in the 3rd instance, where you fight the 2 bosses (with the nice cutscene where the 2nd one comes in and rezzes the first one....
GwaihirValar: oh, the one off to the side
GwaihirValar: through the wall?
GwaihirValar: ya, I've done it :-)
GwaihirValar: she drops nothing special
Menelvagor Valar: in the hallway to the right, last room on the left, there is a torch that can be switched to reveal a undead boss
GwaihirValar: hehe my pet attacked her by accident(pathed through the 'door' before we opened it)
Menelvagor Valar: haha :-)
GwaihirValar: but alas, I muist got afk to get ready for and then eat dinner... be back later everyone :-)
VardaValar1: Eat some cake for us!
Menelvagor Valar: ever seen an 800 damage critical strike?

VardaValar1: Congrats
ArPharazonV: Argent Dawn, still?
Menelvagor Valar: the only place for a black horse I have found is Menthil Harbor
Druidfalconwolf: I'll also congrats, even if I have no clue what I'm congratulating... :-)
Menelvagor Valar: aye, Phar
VardaValar1: Orome and Arathorn and Merry are on WoW right now, and Eowyn
VardaValar1: and Elatan is on WoW too
VardaValar1: The info is coming live from Eowyn talking to me : )
Menelvagor Valar: you're congratulating on weeks of horror on leveling and gathering the massive 90g needed for the horse
Druidfalconwolf: lol
VardaValar1: He had to work up to level 40
VardaValar1: It is a big thing to get your mount. Speeds you up a lot too
Druidfalconwolf: then double congrats?
VardaValar1: Fili, what game do you play mostly?
Menelvagor Valar: and if you divide the gold you get in Diablo by about 10.000 or perhaps 100.000 you get the amount of gold in WoW
VardaValar1: You play Diablo 1?
ArPharazonV: aye, 90 g is a lot
Menelvagor Valar: thankfully, a Guildie loaned me the 20g I was missing :-)
patente666gosse: mmmmmmmmm so if i ave 1 gold
patente666gosse: in WoW i ave 100 000 in d1 !!!! nice
Menelvagor Valar: uhm... d2 would be more likely :-)
Menelvagor Valar: d1 is another story :-)
patente666gosse: SAME THING
VardaValar1: We had a D1 group play after a meeting because of you : ) You reminded us
Menelvagor Valar: nope
patente666gosse: yeah
patente666gosse: well your rigth
Menelvagor Valar: d1 is another matter, because the 5k cap per inventory space

VardaValar1: Yay! Excellent!
Eonwe Valar: congrats Menelvagor
Menelvagor Valar: yeah, was stunned
VardaValar1: I expect some more articles as you take notes ;-)
Druidfalconwolf: awesome, I was going to get that eventually after Morgoth's Ring
VardaValar1: That is a truly excellent bit of reading, and a nice index
ArPharazonV: I'm jealous...
Menelvagor Valar: is that a hint Varda? ;-)
VardaValar1: No - outright begging ;-)
ArPharazonV: oh well, I'll have to pick up the book some day myself
ArPharazonV: together with pictures
Druidfalconwolf: oh yeah, I have a question
Menelvagor Valar: duely noted :-)
VardaValar1: I still want Morgoth's Ring : )
Druidfalconwolf: I'm reading it right now, actually :-D
VardaValar1: Take notes and see if you can toss some to the Encyc : )
ArPharazonV: first thing I want to buy next is Pictures, actually
Druidfalconwolf: ok, but actually, I had two questions: one, are the Eldar reborn?
VardaValar1: That would be under our Tolkien chat section
Menelvagor Valar: note to self: buy new notebook as old is full
Druidfalconwolf: ok
VardaValar1: But go ahead and list your topics since you started
Druidfalconwolf: and in the SIlmarillion, were their children of the Valar?
Druidfalconwolf: there*
VardaValar1: ok - both good ones
VardaValar1: We now have 4 topics :-)
ArPharazonV: 4? busy meeting today
Druidfalconwolf: It mentioned something about "Valarindi" in MR, and I wondered if it was also mentioned in the Silmarillion
VardaValar1: Generally people whisper their topics to the chair so we can put them in some kind of order
Druidfalconwolf: ah, sorry, I'll do that next time
patente666gosse: =-O
VardaValar1: You are still learning and this can help Fili too
VardaValar1: Learning is a good thing : )
patente666gosse: :-D
VardaValar1: Any further business before we go Tolkien happy?
ArPharazonV: when are we going to start section 4 of the RP?
ArPharazonV: still waiting for responses?
VardaValar1: for those who do not know
ArPharazonV: we're having a MeO RP on the forum
VardaValar1: Phar is referring to our Middle-earth role-play text on the guild's Forum
ArPharazonV: there's still room for new players, right?
Druidfalconwolf: ty for explaining
VardaValar1: Would either Fili or Haleth like to join?
Druidfalconwolf: yes please
VardaValar1: We are in a good spot to add new players, elf or dwarf currently being the easiest
Druidfalconwolf: Do we create our own characters?
VardaValar1: See if you can find it first
VardaValar1: Can you find the Forum?
Eonwe Valar: Depends on what you mean by "create" :}
Menelvagor Valar:
VardaValar1: Looking at it will answer a lot of questions
VardaValar1: If you use the general
Druidfalconwolf: yes I can find the forum... Menel, you should know since I discovered that you changed my avvy!!
VardaValar1: you can click Forum
VardaValar1: We are also telling people who will read the transcript later
VardaValar1: Rarely are our directions just for one person
LouieKisKowsKi has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Elros : )
LouieKisKowsKi: Hello
LouieKisKowsKi: yaya elros
patente666gosse: Aiya
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Druidfalconwolf: umm, what section is it in?
VardaValar1: We are currently taking new players for the Middle-earth text rp on our Forum, Elros, if you are interested
ArPharazonV: the Middle-Earth Online section
VardaValar1: Go to the Middle-earth Online section
Druidfalconwolf: kk
LouieKisKowsKi: i cant do text rp
VardaValar1: Then fake it like we do ;-)
LouieKisKowsKi: sorry, it is a good thing though I believe
patente666gosse: ho sombody knows how it require for computer?
LouieKisKowsKi: I am in a rough spot, living mine is being hard enough to not rp another these days
VardaValar1: We do it across the week to handle everyone's schedule
Menelvagor Valar:
VardaValar1: It can be done on any computer that can surf the Internet
LouieKisKowsKi: gwaihir, I knew another Tolkien nut by that name once before, did you ever frequent prodigy?
Druidfalconwolf: this is just a regular RPG right?
VardaValar1: Doesn't even have to be yours
VardaValar1: No, it's ours. ;-)
VardaValar1: We based it on Middle-earth Online, which uses a corruption/redemption theme, but mostly on the idea in the Fellowship
Druidfalconwolf: cool
LouieKisKowsKi: I am sorry to leave you all so quickly, I hope everything is great i hope I have more time next week too
VardaValar1: in which Elrond sends scouts ahead of the Fellowship to find the best way to go
LouieKisKowsKi: good evening
Druidfalconwolf: count me in, as soon as I have a character ready
ArPharazonV: heheh.... just rereading the beginning of the comment-thread... the confusion of the two roads brings back memories
VardaValar1: No problem. Transcript available
ArPharazonV: Namarie, Elros
LouieKisKowsKi: Namarie
LouieKisKowsKi has left the room.
Druidfalconwolf: g'bye
VardaValar1: It's a good idea to read over it to understand how we are doing it
VardaValar1: and for the fun of it
VardaValar1: We have a thread just for OOC
ArPharazonV: we don't use sign-up sheets etc, just make our skills and background up as we go along
VardaValar1: We use it to discuss things
VardaValar1: I knew mine before I started writing, Phar
Druidfalconwolf: ok
ArPharazonV: you did? well, I sure didn't, I guess
Eonwe Valar: I had a pretty good idea of mine as well.
ArPharazonV: I had some skills in the back of my head, but most of it came on the spot
VardaValar1: Best to know who you are so you can write with a knowledge of your character's goals
VardaValar1: That helps set up what you do and what your conflicts are
VardaValar1: We just didn't write it all out like Elatan did
ArPharazonV: hmm... have to remember that for next time :-)
Druidfalconwolf: ok, I will
VardaValar1: You should know who you are even if you don't know anything else : )
ArPharazonV: different ideas for different backgrounds dancing in my head all the time.... I even was an officer in the Bo5A one time
VardaValar1: So who here is planning on being in the next part of the rp?
Druidfalconwolf: me! :-D
VardaValar1: Pick just one for us, Phar
VardaValar1: There's one :-)
VardaValar1: I'm in, as Fainan
ArPharazonV: I've already establishes it now, with my family introduced etc
ArPharazonV: I'm in too... perhaps on two fronts
Menelvagor Valar: Estarion signing up!
patente666gosse: Im in 2 as Fili
ArPharazonV: *established
VardaValar1: You might want a made up name, Fili, to handle the situation
Menelvagor Valar: we try not to pick any real characters from the Books for this, Fili
ArPharazonV: at the time of our RP, your real character is long dead :-(
VardaValar1: Otherwise you have to play the real Fili, and that is very tough and strait-jacketing
Druidfalconwolf: Azshuran, new character
ArPharazonV: not to mention Fili's dead
VardaValar1: We could visit your grave? : )
GwaihirValar: he could play as a Dwarf named after Fili....
GwaihirValar: in honour, etc.
ArPharazonV: Fili the second
VardaValar1: Take time and figure it out. You don't have to do it all now.
VardaValar1: So we have Eonwe, Fili, Menel, me
VardaValar1: Anyone else?
ArPharazonV: me
ArPharazonV: ArPharazonV: I'm in too... perhaps on two fronts
VardaValar1: and Pharazon twice ;-)
ArPharazonV: right
Druidfalconwolf: me!
VardaValar1: Helvy should stay back in Mirkwood really. We might kill him otherwise
ArPharazonV: yes, I know
VardaValar1: Haleth
ArPharazonV: as I stated in my post
VardaValar1: Nice group : )
ArPharazonV: Calaron said he'll be fighting by his side
VardaValar1: So you will be talking to yourself? : )
Menelvagor Valar: question, does it say anywhere that wolves were being regarded as evil in general=
ArPharazonV: nope
ArPharazonV: Calaron and Helvy remain in Mirkwood
ArPharazonV: Calion will be going to Erebor
Eonwe Valar: They tended to be used by evil powers, however.
VardaValar1: In our story, Auros regards Helvy as evil
Druidfalconwolf: wait... can you ve an animal/creature?
ArPharazonV: they probably won't see each other for a long while
VardaValar1: He's our leader
VardaValar1: No
Druidfalconwolf: be*
VardaValar1: He has a pet
Druidfalconwolf: ok
Eonwe Valar: Draugluin, Carcharoth,..
ArPharazonV: 'personal project'
VardaValar1: We are trying to offload it : )
Menelvagor Valar: has any of you read the comic series `Elf Quest`?
VardaValar1: I did
ArPharazonV: PErsonal projecT
VardaValar1: Borrowed it from Elwing : )
Menelvagor Valar: I was thinking of basing my character on one of the Wolf Riders
VardaValar1: Remember this is Tolkien
Menelvagor Valar: or at least, the Wolf Riding bit :-)
VardaValar1: No half elf, half wolf
Eonwe Valar: Um, Elves don't ride Wolves if that's what you're getting at :}
ArPharazonV: wolf riding? not Helvy, right?
VardaValar1: Our horses would not like it, and it is not Tolkien
ArPharazonV: he'll be staying behind
Menelvagor Valar: nah, Helvy is too small
ArPharazonV: psshh... just because he isn't a warg...
Menelvagor Valar: more like a wolf the size of a pony :-)
Menelvagor Valar: and not Wargs, they be evil
VardaValar1: It is not Tolkien
Eonwe Valar: Anything big enough to ride is a Warg, and those are servants of the Dark Lord
patente666gosse: Hmmm i must go... well see ya all next week
patente666gosse has left the room.
VardaValar1: Namarie
VardaValar1: heh
VardaValar1: He was to intro the first topic and we took too long with the rp
Druidfalconwolf: I do too
VardaValar1: It will still be good next time
Menelvagor Valar: well, as basically nothing is known of the Elves that remained at Cuivienen, I can more or less make things up, right?
VardaValar1: That drops your two topics :-)
ArPharazonV: you have to go? dogs again?
Druidfalconwolf: well, it was postponed
ArPharazonV: right, Menel... but wolves?
VardaValar1: We know some, Menel. Don't cross that little bit
Eonwe Valar: There's stuff to be found in HoME as I recall
Druidfalconwolf: and I did chores... NOW I go walking
ArPharazonV: ah, ok
VardaValar1: Walking is good
ArPharazonV: have fun
Druidfalconwolf: anyway, I might get online later
Menelvagor Valar: good thing I checked on it first :-)
Druidfalconwolf has left the room.
Eonwe Valar: and there's still some lines that by what we have were not meant to be crossed.
ArPharazonV: ... Helvy's staying, and that's flat
VardaValar1: Remember this rp is Tolkien.
Menelvagor Valar: as I said, good thing I checked on it first :-)
VardaValar1: Fine, but he is not a mount : )
ArPharazonV: of course not
VardaValar1: And he is not welcome around our horses
ArPharazonV: he's like a watch-dog
Menelvagor Valar: certainly not, was never intending to use him as a mount :-D
Eonwe Valar: Hopefulyl your people can keep a better eye on a wolf than they did on Gollum :}
VardaValar1: ouch
ArPharazonV: I don't think Helvy will climb a tree and refuse to climb out :-)
VardaValar1: I have a bow that might help
VardaValar1: No, but he will spook the horses
Eonwe Valar: He may run off, though, and orcs could help that :}
VardaValar1: We should have shown that in the earlier part I guess
Menelvagor Valar: not to be offensive, Auros, but your people didn´t do so well containing Morgoth either, fighting amongst themselves
ArPharazonV: he has a hatred for all things infected by the.. Gulhuine, was it?
Eonwe Valar: It was the Oath of Fëanor,.. what's your excuse? :}
ArPharazonV: tough talk, Menel, now that you're no longer one of them? ;-)
Eonwe Valar: Don't worry Menelvagor, I'm taking it in stride :} You're attacking the Noldor, not me :}
Menelvagor Valar: I wasn´t born yet :-)
Eonwe Valar: Neither was Auros :}
Menelvagor Valar: true, true
Menelvagor Valar: and of course, Estarion has no, or little knowledge about those events
Eonwe Valar: afk for a bit,.. food
VardaValar1: For your scroll, Eonwe, our excuse was excessive kindheartedness : )
Menelvagor Valar: and it was not all the Noldor, not even all of the people of Feanor
VardaValar1: The Noldor did not have that problem in too great an excess
VardaValar1: Although Finrod had a lot
Menelvagor Valar: even Maedhros tried to undo what the Oaths had wrought
Menelvagor Valar: of course, it was a futile attempt
VardaValar1: aye, he was not happy about it
VardaValar1: Not even Finrod could dodge the Oath
Menelvagor Valar: and Thingol wouldn´t

Tolkien Chat:
VardaValar1: Menel, you are the only surviving topic person : )
VardaValar1: We seem to have found another though. The rp is good for that!
Menelvagor Valar: aye =)
VardaValar1: Menel's topic from earlier was Maeglin's treachery
VardaValar1: Thingol was not under the Oath
VardaValar1: but
VardaValar1: he was affected by it
Menelvagor Valar: Finrod didn´t take the Oath as I recall
VardaValar1: The kinslaying changed the way he treated the Noldor
Menelvagor Valar: anyways, my topic is from BoLT
VardaValar1: Finrod was Finarfin's eldest son so that brought him in
ArPharazonV: brb
VardaValar1: Finarfin went back to Aman, but
VardaValar1: Ok, Menel, go ahead I guess
Menelvagor Valar: we all know that Maeglin dug deep into the Echoriath, eventually exiting the protective circle of mountains around Gondolin and was eventually captured
Menelvagor Valar: and brought before Morgoth
Menelvagor Valar: there he was put under a spell and sent back to Gondolin
ArPharazonV: back
VardaValar1: Aiyata
ArPharazonV: thnx
Menelvagor Valar: now my question is, in what ways did Meaglin betray his people that eventually led to the fall of Gondolin and the destruction of the Gondolindrim (or most of it)
VardaValar1: The first would be his interest in Idril
ArPharazonV: he betrayed the exact ways over the mountains and the exact location of Gondolin to Sauron, right?
Menelvagor Valar: that led to his betrayal I think
VardaValar1: He also had the outsider feeling from being Eol's son
Menelvagor Valar: to Morgoth even Phar
ArPharazonV: to Morgoth?
VardaValar1: Aye, he told the way in to Morgoth's people
ArPharazonV: ah, of course, Sauron was already defeated
Menelvagor Valar: yes, he was brought before Morgoth himself
ArPharazonV: confused with Barahir's story now...
Menelvagor Valar: now it is a while since I read the full story on the fall of Gondolin
Menelvagor Valar: but from what I read and what I remember, there is one aspect of his betrayal
Menelvagor Valar: Salgant, the leader the People of Harp was craven and feigned upon Meaglin
Menelvagor Valar: I believe that Salgant retreated from the battle and ordered his people out
Menelvagor Valar: later, the People of Harp, ashamed by Salgant returned to the battle and fought valiantly in the city´s defense, until none of them were left
VardaValar1: BoLT 2 for Salgant
Menelvagor Valar: just read up on that part
Menelvagor Valar: Turgon had ordered the people of the Harp to aid Glorfindel and Tuor
VardaValar1: Now I know what you mean. Salgent fawned on Meglin/Maeglin.
Menelvagor Valar: but Salgant withheld those orders from them and ordered them to defend some remote market
Menelvagor Valar: then the people of the Harp, when Glorfindel was about to be swept away broke away from their lord and fell upon the pursuers of Glorfindel and utterly redeemed the cravenhood of their lord
Menelvagor Valar: with great wrath they fell upon and swarmed over the enemy, where most were trapped by a serpent there
VardaValar1: hmm, just found the House of the Tree in that fight, all of them apparently, so we have another Legolas of Gondolin reference. : )
VardaValar1: Pardon
Menelvagor Valar: The other part of the betrayal, was Maeglin and Salgant playing upon Turgon´s weakness, the City of Gondolin and its riches
TheSirG3 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: That first sounds like you are talking about Salgant more than Meglin
VardaValar1: Aiya Farmer : )
ArPharazonV: Aiya
bnetValar has entered the room.
Menelvagor Valar: Where Tuor and Ecthelion and all the other lords would abandon the city and break from the siege, whether in one great host, or different packs spreading in different directions
VardaValar1: Talking about Maeglin's betrayal of Gondolin
bnetValar: ArPharazonV (SigmaChat): contact! woohoo!
TheSirG3: Aiya, sorry about not having the bridge up, I went out to eat and forgot to put it up before I left
VardaValar1: np
VardaValar1: Figured Easter got you
TheSirG3: yep
VardaValar1: Menel is discussing the BoLT version
ArPharazonV: the only version in detail of the Fall of Gondolin..
Menelvagor Valar: true, Varda, but that concerns Maeglin´s betrayal as well, for if Maeglin would not have betrayed Gondolin, Salgant would not have made this decision which may have lead to the ultimate doom of Gondolin
Menelvagor Valar: at any rate, the 2nd one I just brought up is the greater one
VardaValar1: The Sil shows some changes, but plenty of BoLT details are still useable.
Menelvagor Valar: as Maeglin and Salgant convinced Turgon to defend the city
VardaValar1: Staying behind the walls instead of going to the attack could be considered one.
VardaValar1: Or at least not good tactics
Menelvagor Valar: well, the attack was more of a break-free attempt to save the Gondolindrim, more than it was to defend in attack
Menelvagor Valar: if you know what I mean :-)
Menelvagor Valar: in any case, Gondolin would fall, there would have been less casualties if they had sallied forth and fought their way out
Menelvagor Valar: Gondolin was strong and well-manned, had Morgoth sent out a lesser host, it would have stood victorious on that day
VardaValar1: You're right. Meglin wanted the confusion in the gate and city so he could grab Idril
Menelvagor Valar: aye
Menelvagor Valar: for the People of the Mole (who were Maeglins people) fell upon Tuor and his men while they were defending the gate
Menelvagor Valar: that was Maeglin´s 3rd betrayal
VardaValar1: Salgant was a bad bird too. That he would be willing to go along with Meglin, delaying Tuor and getting him into the worst fighting
Menelvagor Valar: aye
Menelvagor Valar: that´s why I am pointing out Salgant as part of Maeglin´s betrayal
VardaValar1: Meglin saw a way to keep Morgoth off his back and have his heart's desire. Stick and carrot.
Menelvagor Valar: not one he worked directly, but certainly affected it
VardaValar1: I agree with you
Menelvagor Valar: well, Morgoth did promise him his hearts desire in return for the location of Gondolin
Menelvagor Valar: for Morgoth perceived that Maeglin was still strong of will and heart
Menelvagor Valar: Meaglin would not have broken, if not for the promise of Idril
ArPharazonV: you know, somebody should make a video game of the fall of Gondolin... or at least a movie... this stuff is great
VardaValar1: Salgant was "heavy and squat". His build suggests he is not quite like the other elves. A bit of sneaky writing there
Menelvagor Valar: if I knew how to work the TFT map editor, I would have done so a long time ago, Phar :-)
Menelvagor Valar: aye
VardaValar1: Better start making the video now, Phar
Menelvagor Valar: and of all the Gondothlim alone, Salgant rode into battle
Menelvagor Valar: although he never actually reached the battle
ArPharazonV: combine the Coming to Gondolin with the Fall of Gondolin, and you have something great... oh well, perhaps one day...
VardaValar1: Salgant may have been too heavy to keep up, needed a horse ;-)
VardaValar1: Like tomorrow, right? ; )
ArPharazonV: hmm... can I quote something from the pre-meeting?
Menelvagor Valar: Phar, in BoLT it describes both the coming to Gondolin as the Fall of Gondolin in the chapter `Fall of Gondolin`
VardaValar1: Cool, even as a little thing Earendil fights Meglin
ArPharazonV: aye, but though I haven't read the fall of gondolin in a while, I seem to recall that the story of UT was a lot more detailed in that part of the story
Menelvagor Valar: although there are some differences between the Sil version of the Coming to Gondolin and the BoLT version, as well as some gaps not handled by Sil
Menelvagor Valar: errr... make that UT, thanks Phar :-)
VardaValar1: Lots of places to dig up info. Drives me crazy, especially since they don't all match neatly
ArPharazonV: iron out the differences, and you have a great combined tale...
Menelvagor Valar: true, Phar, the Coming to Gondolin is way more detailed in UT than BoLT, but BoLT fills in some gaps of UT
VardaValar1: Jump all over trying to find the right references. They were just notes, not intended by JRRT for publishing
ArPharazonV: that's why I said, combine them, Menel
Menelvagor Valar: hehe :-)
VardaValar1: It would be interesting to try to combine all the references. Which of you wants to try it?
Eonwe Valar: back
VardaValar1: Poor Chris, trying to make it all make sense
VardaValar1: Aiyata!
ArPharazonV: but anyway, Varda, concerning that game/map: ArPharazonV: but I've been planning a series of campaigns about ME for a long time, though nothing has come of it yetArPharazonV: lazy me...
Menelvagor Valar: I am still trying to get an accurate story on Turgon, from Sil, BoLT and UT
Menelvagor Valar: not an easy job, as there is lots and lots of info on him
VardaValar1: Pick a time to do it each week. If you don't do it then, you have to work on it the next day. : )
ArPharazonV: heh... just what I need... less time for my studies...
Menelvagor Valar: ai.... make a schedule you mean....?
VardaValar1: It won't be accurate, unless you show all the versions in each spot.
VardaValar1: egads! a schedule!
Menelvagor Valar: yikes!
VardaValar1: Studies come first, aye
Menelvagor Valar: no studies yet
ArPharazonV: I hate schedules... I can make them, but keeping to them is a different story
VardaValar1: The schedule is a trick to fit stuff in what you are already doing
Menelvagor Valar: but may be good practice for making schedules for my studies :-)
VardaValar1: They are more...guidelines.
Menelvagor Valar: err....
VardaValar1: To go with Pirates
VardaValar1: Anyway, you had three betrayals by Meglin?
VardaValar1: main ones, anyway?
VardaValar1: Want to recap?
Menelvagor Valar: play WoW.... sleep.... play WoW.... sleep.... play CS..... play WoW.... crash WoW.... play CS.... play WoW... sleep.... play WoW.... visit mom.... play WoW before bed.... sleep
Menelvagor Valar: that´s the jist of my schedule
Menelvagor Valar: 3 betrayals right now
VardaValar1: Visit mom was in there : )
VardaValar1: Ah, you have some more to list? Go for it!
Menelvagor Valar: 1st: betraying the location of Gondolin to Morgoth
Eonwe Valar: Wish I could have that schedule
Menelvagor Valar: 2nd: Convincing Turgon to defend the city, basically sacraficing his people
Menelvagor Valar: 3rd: Attacking Tuor at the gates
ArPharazonV: sacra... sacri... not sure
VardaValar1: (He does too Eonwe)
Eonwe Valar: replacing CS with WotR, TFT, console games, or reading :}
Menelvagor Valar: sacrificing, right Phar
VardaValar1: aye, Menel
Menelvagor Valar: and the last of his betrayals:
Menelvagor Valar: the kidnapping of Idril
VardaValar1: Well capped.
Menelvagor Valar: while the walls had mostly fallen, and heavy battle was being waged in the streets of Gondolin
ArPharazonV: so far I have studies, style-dancing, tv, tolkien, the web, morrowind, tft.... and soon WoW will come into that...
Menelvagor Valar: Maeglin snuck out to take Idril for his own
Menelvagor Valar: now lets see what happened between the kidnapping and Tuor catching up to him :'
Menelvagor Valar: reading :-)
VardaValar1: We are in BoLT 2 for those following
ArPharazonV: pssh... I know how it ends... Maeglin gets tossed off the wall, right?
ArPharazonV: elf-tossing
ArPharazonV: just like the fate of his daddy
VardaValar1: aye
Menelvagor Valar: as was predicted by Eol before he was tossed off the walls
VardaValar1: Meglin dragging Idril by the hair and stabbing at the fighting Earendil child ticked Tuor pretty badly
ArPharazonV: hmm... Eol smote the wall three times, I recall... was that the case also with Maeglin
ArPharazonV: ?
VardaValar1: Broke his arm grabbing it and chucked him over
VardaValar1: yes
VardaValar1: and it fell into flames
ArPharazonV: sounds painful
VardaValar1: "and the name of Meglin has gone out in shame from among Eldar and Noldoli."
VardaValar1: But Meglins's evil influence continues
VardaValar1: as his people of the Mole then attack Tuor for his killing of their lord
VardaValar1: He gets helped by his own people, leaves Idril under guard, and finally goes to defend the gate
VardaValar1: He was delayed a lot by Meglin
VardaValar1: I doubt if he could have stopped it, but a house divided like that is much weaker
Menelvagor Valar: aye
ArPharazonV: Meglin did his job well...
ArPharazonV: and got his just reward, it seems
Menelvagor Valar: actually, he did a poor job
ArPharazonV: but hey, who am I to talk :-D
Menelvagor Valar: for both Idril and Tuor escaped with their son Earendil
VardaValar1: You are Ar-Pharazon the Golden :-)
Menelvagor Valar: and Earendil as we know, later pleaded before the Valar and brought about the downfall of Morgoth
Menelvagor Valar: so, in retrospect, the betrayal of Maeglin brought a greater good with it
VardaValar1: Eru rigged all the designs of Morgoth to turn to good, like it or not. This is a good example.
Menelvagor Valar: for if Gondolin had not fallen, Earendil would have stayed in Gondolin until all the world was Morgoth´s, ere Gondolin itself would have fallen, and no one would have escaped
Menelvagor Valar: praise be to Eru! :-D
ArPharazonV: I don't think Morgoth liked Eru after that...
Eonwe Valar: Don't think he liked Eru before that :}
VardaValar1: Jealous of him from early on
Menelvagor Valar: how come I didn't see that coming lol :-)
Menelvagor Valar: but yep, that was my topic
ArPharazonV: and a good topic it was
Menelvagor Valar: I think we've had it all :-)
VardaValar1: Excellent topic!
VardaValar1: Thank you Menelvagor!
Menelvagor Valar: and for once not a "what-if" topic from me :-)
VardaValar1: Very well done.
Menelvagor Valar: finally one that was constricted to its own without all that much room to deviate, as we are masters in :-)

VardaValar1: Shall we rest on your laurels and call it "After-meeting" now?
VardaValar1: We could have deviated
VardaValar1: I had to pull back ; )
Menelvagor Valar: definitely :-)
Menelvagor Valar: same thing here :-)
VardaValar1: Happy After-meeting, then : )
TheSirG3: Anybody happen to have a plot idea for a Diablo 1 type game?
Menelvagor Valar: but usually a topic is embedded in so much other material, that deviation is hard to avoid
Menelvagor Valar: and this topic had a couple, but less than usual embedding :-)
ArPharazonV: sorry, I don't carry plot ideas anymore since I read Tolkien....
VardaValar1: How about the Fall of Gondolin with triggers in SC? :-) Like Battle of Osgiliath
VardaValar1: Plot idea for D1? Not sure what you mean. Like Quest for 3 or Iron Man or Dungeon Provides?
Menelvagor Valar: I couldn't get beyond an "evo" Tolkien like game for SC :-(
ArPharazonV: ok, how about a necklace that grants immortality, and an evil sorcerer (who just happens to be the brother-in-law of the main character), who claims the necklace for his own, and corrupts the artefact with his own evil spells?
VardaValar1: What is "evo"? Sounds like evolution
Menelvagor Valar: evolution, aye
ArPharazonV: oh, wait, that's my own unfinished tale... hmm.... I have a lot of work waiting for me
TheSirG3: Some kind of plot that allows for some hack and slash fighting, using an 2d isometric game engine
Menelvagor Valar: I had 4 different players, 2 good, 2 bad side
Menelvagor Valar: different units on each side
VardaValar1: A D1 mod, then, not a style
TheSirG3: not really a mod as I'd be writing the whole game
VardaValar1: Have you played the Middle-earth mod for D1?
TheSirG3: hm, not for D1
Eonwe Valar: I've got a plot idea! you see, there are these rocks that hold spirits. They're called "Spirit Rocks" and there's a Guy who knows alot about them named Bain...
Menelvagor Valar: and, as it should be, different intro tales for each player as the game is started :-)
VardaValar1: Piers Anthony ;-)
VardaValar1: I really need to drag myself out of here
Eonwe Valar: And adventurers have to go into this Chapel to find the source of the tainting
Menelvagor Valar: oh well, enough about myself already, time to get those special features watched and over with for "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" :-)
Eonwe Valar: fighting through 15 levels separated into 5 "cave-crawler" areas
VardaValar1: Go Eonwe : )
Eonwe Valar: at the 14th level they find out the Arch-monk Malagas is trying to bring back Iago, the Lord of Ferrets.
VardaValar1: Just go with a D&D board game and Eonwe's design there, and you have a game
VardaValar1: Lord of Ferrets? Has Elwing-(V) heard about this?
ArPharazonV: Menel, how's our ad&d game going? any plans yet for a continuation?
Eonwe Valar: The adventurer founds out he's too late, and that Iago is awaiting him on the 15th level surrounded by sinks and buses
ArPharazonV: sinks and buses?
Eonwe Valar: Alerogs, lizards,..
ArPharazonV: starting to remind me of Earthworm Jim...
VardaValar1: Alerogs. They into kegs?
Eonwe Valar: but it's not that easy, nooo..
ArPharazonV: when you kill him, he comes back in a more powerful shape, right?
ArPharazonV: and can make summons of his own?
ArPharazonV: go go Dungeon Siege!
Eonwe Valar: you have to fight in pathways, and find the switch to open each room, filled with these creatures
Eonwe Valar: and in the final room is Iago himself, surrounded by ferrets! Oh the Humanity!
VardaValar1: Hard on us distance players, huh? Melee will have to handle this one.
VardaValar1: Not...ferrets!
ArPharazonV: nothing what a good greatsword can't accomplish
VardaValar1: If you kill them, they become Undead Ferrets of Doom
Eonwe Valar: And then, if you defeat the Lord of Ferrets, your character doesn't destroy the Spirit Rock..
VardaValar1: ow Eonwe! Good one
Eonwe Valar: He swallows it! That way you can make a sequel where Iago comes back to find a bride :}
VardaValar1: lol
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: At least it's not in his forehead
TheSirG3: lol, certainly some usable ideas there
Eonwe Valar: Ok, improv game design done :}
ArPharazonV: his forehead... hmm... where does that idea come from?
VardaValar1: D1
ArPharazonV: ah, ok
TheSirG3: was it the runestone?
ArPharazonV: definitely need to play it solo once... oh, so many things to do, and so little time to do it
VardaValar1: Great game there, Eonwe! : )
VardaValar1: Now is good, Phar
ArPharazonV: during the meeting? right
Eonwe Valar: Thanks :}
VardaValar1: It's over
ArPharazonV: and I still want to finish Morrowind first, before I throw myself in any other SP-game :-)
VardaValar1: We are just goofing around now
VardaValar1: I'll leave so it will look more officially over ;-)
VardaValar1: I will pretend not to notice any fruit cannons.
TheSirG3: heh
ArPharazonV: *rolls cannon from behind a nearby wall*
VardaValar1: Namarie
ArPharazonV: Namarie
VardaValar1: hmm - *busy not seeing cannon*
Eonwe Valar: take care :}
ArPharazonV: *looks around him with sneaky face*
VardaValar1 has left the room.
ArPharazonV: hmm...
ArPharazonV: Varda's departure always leaves a silence, doesn't it?
ArPharazonV: well, guess it's time to save then
ArPharazonV (20:07:52): saved
Eonwe Valar (20:09:07): afk for a sec
ArPharazonV (20:11:48): sent
ArPharazonV (20:13:52): well, I'll be going then
ArPharazonV (20:13:58): perhaps a small game, perhaps to bed
ArPharazonV (20:14:01): Namarie
(20:26:38) GwaihirValar has left the room.
(20:27:11) ArPharazonV has left the room.
Eonwe Valar (20:28:43): back
Eonwe Valar (20:28:56): I guess the going is good so I'll get going :}
Eonwe Valar (20:29:07): take care and good night :}
(20:29:17) Eonwe Valar has left the room.
(20:29:51) bnetValar has left the room.
(20:29:55) TheSirG3 has left the room.
(20:30:28) GilraenV has left the room.
