VardaValar1: Thank you, Fili
VardaValar1: Does anyone else have any Membership news?
VardaValar1: I may need a helper for a test later : )
VardaValar1: Go ahead, Ar-Pharazon
ArPharazonV: well, short news, Fladrif and I
upgraded my computer a lot in the past 2 days
ArPharazonV: replaced motherboard, processor, and several other things
ArPharazonV: so I should do a lot less crashing (especially handy in
ArPharazonV: and also be able to perform faster in multiplayer-games
VardaValar1: That is great news!
ArPharazonV: and that's about it for the relevance to the guild
VardaValar1: Thank you, Phar
ArPharazonV: hmm.... I guess mainboard is the correct word for the term
motherboard.. oh well, that's it for my topic
VardaValar1: Hellos from Eowyn, Fangorn, Sauron, and Bilbo, most of
whom are busy constructing downstairs
VardaValar1: Tolkien Encyclopedia:
VardaValar1: This week, started re-working the Powers page navigation
VardaValar1: Orodreth sent in his completed story:
VardaValar1: Ondollo - After the
VardaValar1: And yes you can find everything from just one link:
VardaValar1: Any other web news from fellow web weavers?
ArathornValar: I have many pics I still want to put up but...
ArathornValar: for WoW I mean but am wondering what our space situation
is still :-\
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Pictures might be better on an image holding site rather
VardaValar1: Aiya Menelvagor : )
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya
Menelvagor Valar: sorry for being late, I had some business to conduct
at WoW :-)
VardaValar1: Glad you made it. Is it web news?
ArathornValar: yeah we discussed that but the prob was their method of
renaming file names.. very annoying :-P
VardaValar1: True. We may have to find a different image server
VardaValar1: Menel, was it about the WoW page?
Menelvagor Valar: nope, just gaming :-)
VardaValar1: "Just" : )
VardaValar1: Any further Web News?
patente666gosse has left the room.
VardaValar1: If not, we are going to Gaming News
patente666gosse has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Welcome back : )
VardaValar1: The Friday gaming had quite a few show
up, but most could not stay
VardaValar1: Alatar, Arathorn, Elatan, Gil-galad, Orome, Ulmo, and
Varda came. Arathorn and Varda quested in RedRidge.
VardaValar1: Would anyone like to add anything?
Eonwe Valar: So you guys made it onto Lothar?
ArathornValar: And I apologised profusely to Gil.. I got wool fever and
we never got to elf land to quest with him *sigh*
Menelvagor Valar: unfortunately, still stuck in Europe :-(
Menelvagor Valar: wool fever....
Menelvagor Valar: long time since I heard that :-)
VardaValar1: So we can quest with him next time we catch him on : )
ArPharazonV: what's that? an obsession with 'harvesting' nearby sheep?
VardaValar1: Not everyone plays WoW : )
ArPharazonV: not yet, anyway ;-)
VardaValar1: Wool is taken from humanoid enemies as a resource, and we
found a lot!
Menelvagor Valar: humanoids and undead drop various degrees of cloth,
the 2nd of them being wool
VardaValar1: We're working on that, Phar, aye : )
Menelvagor Valar: today I managed to deplete a supply of 218 silk
cloths for my tailoring lol
ArPharazonV: Fladrif said he saw copies of WoW
at Intertoys... I think I'll go chasing after that
VardaValar1: Any other Gaming News?
VardaValar1: We had fun with Diablo one after the last meeting
Menelvagor Valar: apart from the fact that my Euro mage just hit lvl
VardaValar1: Some had trouble getting into Battle.net with it or then
with joiniing a game, but could host
HeruRasa: Elatan plays WoW in US server by registering through New
Zealand, is that an option for others from Europe?
VardaValar1: If not New Zealand, perhaps elsewhere
ThorondorV: Looks like the clock is still ticking 8 hours ahead of your
time, so I have to leave now, unfortunately.. I'll try to make it to
the next meeting, though
VardaValar1: The guild members are scattered throughout a lot of games
Menelvagor Valar: if one has a creditcard available, yes
VardaValar1: Be sure to let Eonwe know what you are currently playing
ArPharazonV: Namarie, Thorondor
ThorondorV: Good night, all.. :-)
ThorondorV has left the room.
VardaValar1: People keep thinking they are the only ones playing a game
when they are not
ArPharazonV: oh really? anyone playing morrowind? ;-)
VardaValar1: Yes, some are
ArPharazonV: and warcraft 2?
VardaValar1: Anyone in here who is not AFK?
patente666gosse: some times
GwaihirValar: I['m half-afk
Orodreth V: I'm here..kinda
ArPharazonV: I'm pretty much not afk, though I browse the web besides
VardaValar1: ande some are gaming
Orodreth V: Sorry I missed "my" announcment..was putting winshield
wipers on my dad's car.
VardaValar1: Who here plays Morrowind?
Bloody Requim: Me...
Menelvagor Valar: I do sometimes
Bloody Requim: Going to try and get Tribunal...
ArPharazonV: me :-)
VardaValar1: Now you guys need to get together!
Bloody Requim: On x-box I have a lvl 110...
ArPharazonV: Morrowind is SP only ;-)
ArPharazonV: but we can exchange secrets and stuff
ArPharazonV: tips, tactics, etc
VardaValar1: You can still discuss it, aye
Bloody Requim: Cheats :-\
Bloody Requim: :-)
ArPharazonV: you don't need cheats
Bloody Requim: Just skills
ArPharazonV: if you want to go godmode, all you have to do is use
alchemy and enchant
Bloody Requim: True
VardaValar1: Now you get to take it to private messages : )
VardaValar1: Any other gaming news?
VardaValar1: Please message me your Tolkien topics
VardaValar1: Bloody has a topic. Go ahead
Bloody Requim: *cough, cough*, Ahem, the topic up for discussion, would
be,....."Where did Gandalf Stormcrow
come from, and why is he with the Hobbit's?"
VardaValar1: If everyone is afk, I will take Bloody out for a test : )
ArPharazonV: Olorin, Maia from Lorien (Valinor), came to ME on a ship
as one of the five wizards, Elven name Mithrandir
VardaValar1: I know you know this
ArPharazonV: he got the Ring of Fire (the Elven ring, that is), Narya,
ArPharazonV: his interest in the hobbits... hmm... tricky
ArPharazonV: foresight, perhaps
ArPharazonV: pipeweed, perhaps
Menelvagor Valar: I think it was their surpriseability
Menelvagor Valar: as Gandalf put it:
Menelvagor Valar: "One can learn all about Hobbits there is to know in
a month, and after a hundred years, they will still amaze you"
ArPharazonV: amaze you?
patente666gosse: maybe gandalf some valar new hobbits were specials
ArPharazonV: wasn't it surprise you?
Bloody Requim: Yes, that is true
Menelvagor Valar: whichever Phar :-)
Eonwe Valar: It's the same general idea, whichever word is used :}
ArPharazonV: not sure.... amaze seems to be primarily positive, while
surprise can be used either way... but not sure of that
ArPharazonV: but let's get back on topic
patente666gosse: Were did hobbits came from?
patente666gosse: there are no elf or human
ArPharazonV: the East, from the vales of Anduin seems to be the
VardaValar1: Hobbits are a variant of Man, migrated from the eastern
area across Rohan picking up some of that language
Menelvagor Valar: Gandalf thought that Hobbits emerged at the Anduin
ArPharazonV: the river-folk
ArPharazonV: when Mirkwood turned evil, they started passing over the
ArPharazonV: Stoors, Harfoots, and Fallohides :-)
patente666gosse: did Eru created them?
patente666gosse: or any valar?
VardaValar1: Eru created Man, hobbits were a variant of man
ArPharazonV: they probably split up from Men in the earliest days of
ArPharazonV: or were already a seperate group in the first awakening of
Bloody Requim: But how was their size stunted considerably?
ArPharazonV: in an isolated corner, uncontacted by Morgoth in the first
Menelvagor Valar: perhaps they were cross-bred from humans and dwarves
Bloody Requim: And why was their life span greatly lengthened
VardaValar1: While you are at it, there are ears and feet to consider :
Menelvagor Valar: it would explain all the hair on the hobbits :-P
ArPharazonV: ears? a little bit of Elf?
VardaValar1: Some humans had very long lives. See Numenoreans
patente666gosse: maybe elf and men
patente666gosse: and dwarfs
Menelvagor Valar: I would sooner think dwarf than elf in that aspect
HeruRasa: reading this chat would be much easier on the eyes if all
used plain font with no effects
VardaValar1: Tolkien said they were from Men so I won't argue with him.
patente666gosse: maybe all races
ArPharazonV: trolls, ogres, orcs! wait...
patente666gosse: orcs are elfs
Bloody Requim: hairy Feet!
patente666gosse: in one way
ArPharazonV: I have it! Hobbits are descended from Balrogs!
ArPharazonV: remember the bunny-slippers on the Balrog? must be the
ancestor of the hairy feet
Bloody Requim: Brilliant deduction, other than the size..
VardaValar1: Too much glue, eh? Eowyn is grinning and claims to
disagree with Phar
patente666gosse: size isnt important
Bloody Requim: Balrog's ear's are pointy?
Bloody Requim: Interesting...
ArPharazonV: well, did they have horns?
patente666gosse: maybe some elf and balrogs would do
Bloody Requim: oOOooOOOo
Bloody Requim: ooOoo
Bloody Requim: lol
VardaValar1: Hard to see balrog ears through the flame and shadow.
Might be a mood thing since they are Maiar
Bloody Requim: It's not really mood
Bloody Requim: It's glandular :-)
ArPharazonV: well, the flame and shadow was a mood-thing
VardaValar1: An Ainur manifests its body according to its way of thought
patente666gosse: well in the moovie i think the balrg ave ears
VardaValar1: so it could be a mood thing ;-)
VardaValar1: Movies are not remotely canon : )
Bloody Requim: >:o:-D
ArPharazonV: I know that he had horn-thingies in the movie... but don't
think the books mention them
patente666gosse: did tolkien draw any balrog?
Bloody Requim: Hmm
Bloody Requim: Good question
ArPharazonV: yes, I think so.... I have a picture on a calendar
Bloody Requim: He did?
Bloody Requim: Interesting
VardaValar1: I don't remember Tolkien drawing a balrog
HeruRasa: Balrogs looked a lot like men, but a lot taller is about all
you will find for a description from JRRT
VardaValar1: The calendar art is generally not from Tolkien's art
ArPharazonV: ah, of course...
ArPharazonV: howe, lee, etc
Menelvagor Valar: well, I'm off to bed, Namarie everyone!
ArPharazonV: don't think I've seen much art by Tolkien himself
VardaValar1: The Lord of the Sea made quite a study of balrog
appearance, so I would go with him
patente666gosse: i respect tolkien but i dont like is work beacause of
VardaValar1: Tolkien did those original covers
ArPharazonV: I still need to purchase Pictures by Tolkien some day
Menelvagor Valar has left the room.
ArPharazonV: looking forward to it
Bloody Requim: Found it! AHA! Tolkien art : Balrog...
ArathornValar has left the room.
patente666gosse: nice 1
VardaValar1: They yanked JRRT's pics off the net mostly - probably for
Bloody Requim: Look's like a demon
Bloody Requim: Movies emphasized too much
VardaValar1: A demon of the ancient world is one description
painted with horns....
Bloody Requim: But the heart shaped horns
Bloody Requim: Emphasis...
patente666gosse: he look like aving ears
HeruRasa: I don't see them as having any horns
patente666gosse: maybe some of them
patente666gosse: it was 12 balrogs
Bloody Requim: And the molten look
VardaValar1: When drawing, one is forced to think of details they did
not tell in the books
Bloody Requim: That's a little off of what I fuound
ArPharazonV: 7 balrogs, I think
Bloody Requim: found*
VardaValar1: 7 I thiink
patente666gosse: 7 balrogs?
patente666gosse: maybe they were all different looking...
ArPharazonV: is supposed to be somewhere in BoLT 2
VardaValar1: It's in a note
VardaValar1: In Book of Lost Tales there are many balrogs, the early
patente666gosse: its suposed to be in the Silmarion somewere
VardaValar1: Later Tolkien decided to cut it to about 7
ArPharazonV: right, and that note is mentioned in BoLT
VardaValar1: And he made them much more fearsome
ArPharazonV: in the 'review' of the fall of gondolin
VardaValar1: Aye, seems like I remember it from BoLT
patente666gosse: 12 whas better
Bloody Requim: :-)
VardaValar1: One was plenty in LotR. Just ask the Fellowship!
patente666gosse: how many dragons?
VardaValar1: Or the dwarves of Moria
Bloody Requim: Dragons......
ArPharazonV: ah, but the soldiers of Gondolin were surely able to take
down a great many....
VardaValar1: Don't think it gave an actual number
patente666gosse: no more dwarves in moria :-(
Bloody Requim: Smaug is by far the most and I think only known Dragon
to the Fellowship...
ArPharazonV: we also had Ancalagon and Glaurung
Bloody Requim: Stupid Smaug had a weakness...
ArPharazonV: and Scatha
patente666gosse: glaurung is the best
ArPharazonV: I like Ancalagon the best...
VardaValar1: The soldiers in Gondolin were also fighting mechanical
dragons, a concept changed later. Dragons were then organic
Bloody Requim: Smaug and his golden scale!
VardaValar1: Bilbo and his sharp eyes
Eonwe Valar: As I recall, it was a missing scale, not a golden scale :}
ArPharazonV: btw, none of the Fellowship ever met Smaug... or did
Gandalf see him at some point?
Bloody Requim: Missing..
Bloody Requim: Ah yes
patente666gosse: bilbo could be concudered like a super hobbit or they
are all like hime?
Bloody Requim: My mistake
VardaValar1: Some hobbits were more adventurous than others, notably
Tooks and Brandybucks
Bloody Requim: Anyone here play the Board game "Dungeon!" similar to
"Dungeons & Dragons"?
patente666gosse: but were they all as resource full as bilbo?
Bloody Requim: I am so random...
patente666gosse: without the ring
ArPharazonV: resourceful? I think lucky is a better word often...
VardaValar1: Sauron is very into it, but prefers it live not online
patente666gosse: gandal was probebly abel to look in the futur at some
ArPharazonV: btw, the adventurous strain in certain Hobbits came from
the Fallohide group
VardaValar1: Bilbo kept his head, cared, and was in situations where he
had to think fast
VardaValar1: Although Stoors were fond of boats : )
patente666gosse: And whos was the necromencer was it sauron?
Bloody Requim: Aye.
VardaValar1: Sauron was also called the Necromancer
patente666gosse: sauron was the necromencer
ArPharazonV: he was 'driven out' by the White Council afterwards, or at
the same time of the hobbit... don't remember
ArPharazonV: he packed up and left for Mordor
VardaValar1: During the book, the Hobbit, yes
Bloody Requim: The one Necromencer....TO RULE THEM ALL.... ok, all done
ArPharazonV: where he openly declared himself
patente666gosse: so Sauron as been in mirkwood for quite a long time
VardaValar1: The ringwraiths were setting up Barad-dur for Sauron, so
he just moved into his new home
VardaValar1: At least they got him out of the middle of the elf lands
ArPharazonV: meh, Dol Guldur would retain dark control over the
territory for many years to come
patente666gosse: Valr dint help much in the war of the ring
VardaValar1: Aye. And who was doing it?
ArPharazonV: Khamul, the Easterling took control of Dol Guldur
ArPharazonV: Second of the Nine
VardaValar1: The Valar did help in the War of the Ring, by arranging
VardaValar1: Bilbo was "meant" to find the Ring
ArPharazonV: 'in which case, you too were meant to have it'
patente666gosse: and gandalf wS SENT TO GET TINGS IN PLACE
Eonwe Valar: Sending emissaries to rally the Free Peoples.
ArPharazonV: one of which turned out to become one of their worst
patente666gosse: To preapare to figth sauron
ArPharazonV: *one of whom
VardaValar1: The Valar sent the 5 Istari to strengthen the people to
remove Sauron, to set up for the Age of Men
patente666gosse: Morgoth was probebly horibly pussant just look at
sauron is captain
VardaValar1: The Valar sent the Elessar stone, to show they had not
forgotten the people of Middle-earth
VardaValar1: Moroth was once Melkor, the greatest of the Valar, before
he wasted away his power
patente666gosse: Not wasted
patente666gosse: he try to beat up the others away
patente666gosse: so it ended in the lord of the rings
ArPharazonV: he spilled it throughout his minions, and the earth
ArPharazonV: until he lost even the power to change shape, or even
remove the scars on his body
ArPharazonV: from the fight with Fingolfin and Thorondor
patente666gosse: Fingolfin was such a great warrior
ArPharazonV: hmm.... could he have beaten Feanor in a duel?
VardaValar1: Feanor was probably meaner ;-)
patente666gosse: he cut the leg of Morgoth the Valar
ArPharazonV: until Morgoth smashed him into the ground with his
mace/hammer/what was it?
patente666gosse: yeah but whould you do that
ArPharazonV: well, Beren smote his cheek
ArPharazonV: and he was only a mortal
ArPharazonV: perhaps, with a little sword-practice ;-)
patente666gosse: just standing in front of morgoth would make me die of
Eonwe Valar: Beren broke a Dwarven knife and the shard smote Morgoth's
patente666gosse: but he was in love with a great elf woman
ArPharazonV: well, he still did it, Eonwe ;-)
VardaValar1: Beren didn't do it on purpose though : )
patente666gosse: love is such a great thing
ArPharazonV: here's the thing... if Morgoth had a 'normal' body,
couldn't Beren just have plunged the knife in his throat or his heart
or something, and be done with it?
ArPharazonV: or was Morgoth's armor too thick?
patente666gosse: well i dont tink morgoth ad a body... permanet one
patente666gosse: wansent he able of changing form
ArPharazonV: no, not anymore
ArPharazonV: he lost too much power for that
patente666gosse: and sauron
patente666gosse: he was able at that momejnt
patente666gosse: well not anymore
patente666gosse: that a little before
GilraenV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: brb, thirsty
patente666gosse: where did beorn taked hes power?
patente666gosse: ... any way
patente666gosse has left the room.
VardaValar1: Pardon, getting ready to do another test
ArPharazonV: so, anyone still alive?
VardaValar1: Fili left
HeruRasa: sort of
VardaValar1: Think he thought he was alone
VardaValar1: afk a minute
ArPharazonV: was out searching something to quench my thirst
Bloody Requim: Fint the thirst quencher?
VardaValar1: I know - you typed it
aranfinwe: heh, if I seem afkey at these meetings, it's due to me being
ArPharazonV: I found a nice cool glass of Taxi-drink.... anyway,
anybody got any Tolkien to talk about?
HeruRasa: AFK a bit
Bloody Requim: AFK - SUPER MULTI-TASKING
Bloody Requim: :-D
VardaValar1: tons of it
VardaValar1: So who is your favorite Sil character, guys? ;-)
ArPharazonV: Fingolfin, probably
ArPharazonV: or Luthien
ArPharazonV: or Hurin
ArPharazonV: or everybody else ;-)
GwaihirValar: I dunno...
VardaValar1: Hard to pick. Finrod, Earendil, Beleg
GwaihirValar: Beleg would probably be mine
ArPharazonV: woohoo, I finally found a morrowind journal on the web
that's actually being continued now....
ArPharazonV: let's see if it surpasses Withershyn's journal
ArPharazonV: but back on topic
ArPharazonV: well, I gotta go to bed
ArPharazonV: I'll save the transcript now
VardaValar1: Good night
