After-meeting

Before-meeting:
You have just entered room "valarguildmeetingplace."
VardaValar1: Aiya
VardaValar1: I was just in the Forum, read your message and Whitehelm's
aranfinwe has entered the room.
GilraenV has entered the room.
aranfinwe: aiyas
VardaValar1: Aiya :-)
VardaValar1: Busy at work, Finwe?
aranfinwe: yep
aranfinwe: kind of a slow point at the moment
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya
aranfinwe: most customers are staying in b/c of rain
VardaValar1: Let's you get a word in anyway
aranfinwe: lol
VardaValar1: Send some of it here!
VardaValar1: It must be in the 90's in this room, could use a cooling
aranfinwe: heh, seeing how we're catching the castoffs from Dennis... :-)
VardaValar1: We're near the Gulf Coast, so we have hope of some ragged leavings of Dennis as well
VardaValar1: My clock says it's that time. Is it working? : )
aranfinwe: yep
aranfinwe: just glad I'm not in Pensacola, tho...
VardaValar1: Aye, too much of a good thing
aranfinwe: getting whached twice in two years has to be unfun
aranfinwe: whacked*
VardaValar1: Time to move
aranfinwe: nice thing about Jacksonville, we rarely ever get hit directly by the storms
VardaValar1: Good to hear : )
Orodreth V has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya Orodreth!
aranfinwe: even better to be able to say it :-)
aranfinwe: aiya
Orodreth V: aiya
VardaValar1: Let's start. The others can use their mithril spurs to try to catch their horses up to ours.

VardaValar1: Elen sila lumenn' omentielvo
VardaValar1: Membership News:
VardaValar1: We continue to be here, after seven years. Congrats to all of you : )
VardaValar1: A guild is only as good as those who make it up
VardaValar1: Do any of you have member news?
VardaValar1: Finwe is at work and with us anyway, congrats!
aranfinwe: heh, thx :-)
VardaValar1: Eowyn says hi from our house, so does Sauron
aranfinwe: I'll speak up when I can
VardaValar1: Great!

VardaValar1: Web News:
VardaValar1: Menelvagor, on the WoW Trainers page, it looked as if you are now handling it?
VardaValar1: Be sure to give yourself credit on the page, even if you do leave my name on as originator : )
VardaValar1: The
VardaValar1: The Tolkien Encyclopedia is continuing on its rework in navigation, the meanest pages taken care of
VardaValar1: By putting each article in a separate area, we can not only improve navigation, but try some fancier webwork in the future
VardaValar1: People's computers are improving after these seven years, so we can get away with some goodies that we could not before
Menelvagor Valar has left the room.
VardaValar1: Your help in the Encyc is welcome. Notes from reading the books, insights, or creative efforts
VardaValar1: Menel is having a rough time, it appears
VardaValar1: Do you three have any suggestions for what you would like to see more of in our Tolkien Encyclopedia or other pages?
aranfinwe: hmmm... not of the top of my head...
VardaValar1: If you can't now, but think of something later, feel free to email me!
aranfinwe: ok
VardaValar1: You might think of something while perusing them
top

VardaValar1: Gaming:
VardaValar1: WoW Friday was lively, but started late
VardaValar1: We seem to be doing more of the guild grouping now on other days, an improvement : )
VardaValar1: WoW Friday is starting to carry over into other days, as we had hoped
VardaValar1: Does anyone here still play Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction?
aranfinwe: nope
Orodreth V: /me mutters something about SC and WC3
VardaValar1: Oro, any report on those two?
Orodreth V: I've seen like 3 people on in the past..oh, 3 months or so.
VardaValar1: At least that you still play? Do you use the Valar channel?
Orodreth V: I don't even bother playing on my Valar account anymore. :-\
Orodreth V: If you didn't hear, there's a guild/clan/whatever that has taken the Vala clan name.
VardaValar1: That was our problem before, we had trouble recognizing members because they would not play Valar names or come to the Valar channels
VardaValar1: I did not hear, thanks
Orodreth V: I idled in there for quite awile, but they seem about as active as us.
VardaValar1: heh
VardaValar1: Did you get to talk to any?
VardaValar1: Might have some of our old members, of which there are many
Orodreth V: I think I have every valar member on my Oro account.
Orodreth V: And I do get on that every so often, but no one's ever on.
VardaValar1: As I said, they kept using other names. Made it tough
Orodreth V: Yea.
VardaValar1: Suggestions?
Orodreth V: The only people I know who play at all are Paladin Took and Ar-Pharazon.
Orodreth V: And I have both of them friended on my alt.
VardaValar1: I have not seen Paladin. Good to hear he's still around
Orodreth V: I saw him a cuple weeks ago fro a few nights.
Orodreth V: We played a bit.
VardaValar1: Excellent : )
Orodreth V: I lost miserably. >.>
VardaValar1: hehe
Orodreth V: But this is all for WC3/TFT.
VardaValar1: Any chance of his coming to a meeting sometime?
Orodreth V: I think I'm the only Valar member with a SC cd, much less it installed.
VardaValar1: Good. We haven't heard much from WC3/TFT folk lately
Orodreth V: That's cuz I'mt he only one and I usualy sleep through meetings.
VardaValar1: We have it, but we haven't been playing it much since WoW came out
VardaValar1: Thanks for waking up : )
Orodreth V: Don't remind me. :-\
VardaValar1: ok : )
Orodreth V: In other news, the SC community hasn't changed at all in the year or two I've been absent..
TheSirG3 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: So Oro plays WC3/TFT and SC
Orodreth V: The UMS maps are still the same.
VardaValar1: Heya! Who's operating the bridge?
Orodreth V: And the genearl quality of character is still int he pits.
TheSirG3: hm, that would be the question :-\
Orodreth V: But that's all.
VardaValar1: Well, you are. :-) Are you Farmer?
VardaValar1: Thanks, Oro
Menelvagor Valar has entered the room.
TheSirG3: well, trying to get it running....
VardaValar1: Welcome back, Menel : )
VardaValar1: Thanks, FM!
Orodreth V: To summarize: No one plays TFT excpet me on an alt accnt, Alasseo, and Paladin Took/Ar Pharazon very occassionally.
bnetValar has entered the room.
Orodreth V: No one at all (to the best of my knowledge) plays SC.
Orodreth V: I'll start hanging out in Valar more.
Menelvagor Valar: sorry, connection failed on me out of the blue
VardaValar1: They do, but they don't use the old names or channel
VardaValar1: We noticed, and we sympathize : )
VardaValar1: Menel, did you have any Web news?
Menelvagor Valar: none so far, pretty busy week
VardaValar1: Thanks
Orodreth V: so, uh, where is everyone?
Orodreth V: 4th was last weekend
VardaValar1: Sauron is on WoW and says hi
VardaValar1: He says Arathorn and Ulmo are there too
Menelvagor Valar: I try to get around to do stuff, but it seems you are right about it being rather difficult to find the time to mesh it into my schedule
VardaValar1: One has to really work at it, force it into the schedule. Believe me, I understand : )
VardaValar1: Any other business, points to bring up?
Menelvagor Valar: auch, big lag over here :-(
VardaValar1: Ok, seems to be happening in side windows
VardaValar1: Would anyone like to pick their own Tolkien topic and IM me with it?
top

VardaValar1: Tolkien Chat:
VardaValar1: Memorable lines from Lord of the Rings : )
Orodreth V: "waste of a good apple."
Orodreth V: or words to that effect
VardaValar1: lol - excellent!
Orodreth V: and in other news my enter key is broken, brb
VardaValar1: gack
Orodreth V: hmm
Orodreth V: have to just hit it a bit harder
TheSirG3: the most memorable line would have to be of Gandalf talking to Frodo about Gollum and Bilbo's pity
TheSirG3: (IMHO)
VardaValar1: Spring might be off cneter
VardaValar1: Ohh, lovely
Orodreth V: anyways, that's one of the funniest lines ever
VardaValar1: Sauron-(Valar) says "That spear would have skewered a wild boar!" That is both book and movie
Orodreth V: neh
VardaValar1: He says
Orodreth V: 5/10 for that
Orodreth V: Farmer's line gets a 9.9/10 in the serious/morals scale, however
VardaValar1: It's just what line comes to mind : )
TheSirG3: perhap's Bilbo's going away speech
TheSirG3: very confusing =P
VardaValar1: Very backhanded ;-)
Orodreth V: that's not a line though :-P
TheSirG3: it is a line
TheSirG3: "I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."
Orodreth V: yea
Menelvagor Valar: do those memorable lines extend to the movies?
Orodreth V: that's a line
VardaValar1: Sure, go ahead, Menel
VardaValar1: They have gone into our minds too : )
VardaValar1: I'm trying to look up one
VardaValar1: Here's one close to it. Frodo sees Arwen coming to Minas Tirith:
VardaValar1: "At last I understand why we have waited! This is the ending. Now not only day shall be beloved,
VardaValar1: but night too shall be beautiful and blessed and all its fear pass away!"
VardaValar1: Menel, lag allowing, go ahead : )
VardaValar1: Found it : )
VardaValar1: Eomer and Gimli
VardaValar1: Eomer tells Gimli he must go for his axe, for he cannot say Galadriel is the fairest
VardaValar1: "But first I will plead this excuse," said Eomer. "Had I seen her in other company, I would have said all you could wish.
VardaValar1: But now I will put Queen Arwen Evenstar first, and I am ready to do battle on my part with any who deny me. Shall I call for my sword?"
Orodreth V: Buttering up Arwen, are we? :-P
VardaValar1: She wasn't around
VardaValar1: But it was a nice bit between Eomer and Gimli
VardaValar1: The whole thing is about the passing away of the times
Orodreth V: no, I meant you were. :-P
VardaValar1: Then Gimli bowed low. "Nay, you are excused for my part, lord" he said. "You have chosen the Evening,
VardaValar1: but my love is given to the Morning.
Orodreth V: and I the Morning
Menelvagor Valar has left the room.
Orodreth V: I was close. :-\
VardaValar1: And my heart forebodes that soon it will pass away for ever."
VardaValar1: heh, Arwen-(V) is also not here ;-)
VardaValar1: Poor Menelvagor the Crashing
Orodreth V: Orodreth the Idle >.>
TheSirG3: off topic, anyone with XP / TweakUI in here?
Orodreth V: Nope, I use Litestep/WB.
VardaValar1: Would not know if I had it : )
TheSirG3: http://blogs.msdn.com/aaron_margosis/archi ve/2005/04/18/409105.aspx
TheSirG3: trying to do that, but none of the items mentioned are in the list in the Access Control pane
VardaValar1: a bot thingy for WoW?
VardaValar1: Sort of a reader of stats
VardaValar1: Meeting adjourned.
top

VardaValar1: After-meeting declared
TheSirG3: Microsoft makes it miserable to run Windows as a limited user account and makes it miserable to secure Windows ><
Orodreth V: "Windows provides no API, group policy setting, or user interface to edit these ACLs. However, an unsupported utility, TweakUI, does provide such a user interface."
GwaihirValar has entered the room.
Orodreth V: That line in what looks to me to be a
Orodreth V: MS blog
Orodreth V: is just funny
TheSirG3: hehe
TheSirG3: no public API at least =P
GwaihirValar: good morning everyone :-)
Orodreth V: Ooo, burn.
Orodreth V: Good uh.. *checks clock*
Orodreth V: evening
Orodreth V: I think
Orodreth V: Yea, that's PM
GwaihirValar: yup
TheSirG3: happy 4:00, I'd say =P
GwaihirValar: I work nights, so this is morning for me ;-)
VardaValar1: Good morning, then : )
Orodreth V: I sleep at different times every day, so :-P
VardaValar1: We were doing lines from the LotR that happened to come to mind
VardaValar1: but are in After-meeting now.
TheSirG3: heh, I try to stay up late, get up early (7-8 ish) and nap in the afternoon =P
VardaValar1: Oh, the Forum rp is still going. Arathorn joined back into it. : )
VardaValar1: If anyone else is joining, we may have several good spots for men and dwarves coming up. Last call for Mirkwood Elves though.
Orodreth V: hmph.I don't associate with elves not of the light. ;-)
VardaValar1: Hey, twilight has some light : )
VardaValar1: Auros is leading, and he's a Noldo, if that helps : )
GilraenV: I should go, work tomorrow. Namarie, folks.
Orodreth V: Namarie
VardaValar1: Namarie
TheSirG3: cya
VardaValar1: Meeting adjourned a while ago anyway :-)
GilraenV has left the room.
Orodreth V: So where is everyone?
Orodreth V: Or have meetings plummeted in attendance without me noticing?
VardaValar1: Ulmo and Arathorn are on WoW with Sauron
VardaValar1: Yes, they dropped. See News
VardaValar1: Dropped in attendance, that is : )
VardaValar1: Hard to do anything when those present are mostly afk, either
VardaValar1: Orodreth, what games do you play now?
VardaValar1: sorry, you said already
VardaValar1: You were the one talking : )
Orodreth V: heh
VardaValar1: dropped in half the last two meetings. Had 18 before
Orodreth V: There are a bunch of other things I play on occassion,b ut they don't count.
VardaValar1: Expected it last time for July 4
Orodreth V: /me is waiting for Hellgate: London to come out
Orodreth V: Good old slay the demons.
VardaValar1: Worthy cause : )
Orodreth V: Except with guns and flashy graphics.
VardaValar1: Sounds pretty normal. What is the attraction?
Orodreth V: So..Doom 3 but with more explosions, and magic.
VardaValar1: hehe
Orodreth V: Well, it is made by the guys who split from Blizzard.
VardaValar1: Ohh, now that gives hope
Orodreth V: I think Bill Roper is leading this group..yea.
VardaValar1: Could be well worth playing
VardaValar1: Thundering here
Orodreth V: I can't remember the name of the company offhand..I a trailer though, lemme see.
VardaValar1: Sauron says it might be an alien attack instead ;-)
Orodreth V: flagship studios
VardaValar1: URL would be handy
Orodreth V: dunno where I downloaded it
Orodreth V: sorry
VardaValar1: np - we can Google it
Orodreth V: it's actually pretty poor
VardaValar1: ouch
Orodreth V: well
Orodreth V: it looks cool
Orodreth V: but the fights were "filmed" poorly :-\
Orodreth V: some uglay monsters though
Orodreth V: we're talking UGLY
Orodreth V: grade AAA certified
Orodreth V: brb
Orodreth V has left the room.
Orodreth V has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Welcome back : )
Orodreth V: sorry
Orodreth V: back
VardaValar1: np - meeting was over anyway
VardaValar1: I'm putting the summary on the News already
VardaValar1: It can be added to if something comes up : )
Orodreth V: the demon they fight at the end makes diablo look like a playtoy
VardaValar1: I'm adding in the part about the game
aranfinwe: btw, base site seems to be www.hellgatelondon.com
VardaValar1: hehe
Orodreth V: http://hellgatelondon.com/downloads.html
Orodreth V: the trailer is there
VardaValar1: That's a click from the first page you gave
Orodreth V: yea
Orodreth V: don't eat and look
Orodreth V: :-P
VardaValar1: Some nice art!
VardaValar1: hehe
VardaValar1: I'm a biologist. Have to work to make me nauseous
TheSirG3: heh
VardaValar1: Shows how to get DivX for viewing trailers. Handy
VardaValar1: Adding that url too
VardaValar1: Lets you compress videos. Useful
Orodreth V: "Considering the game's very modular design, which will let you hunt down desired items to mix, match, and swap in any number of different combinations,
Orodreth V: Hellgate: London could very well become the next addiction for obsessive Diablo players."
VardaValar1: Get a whole movie on one CDR
Orodreth V: That's from Gamespot.
VardaValar1: Definitely should check out that game then : )
VardaValar1: Thanks
Orodreth V: *bolds obsessive Diablo players*
VardaValar1: *looks around at our guild loaded with obsessive Diablo players*
TheSirG3: heh
VardaValar1: Used to be anyway
Orodreth V: they're just obessive wow players now
Orodreth V: but they're diablo playerss at heart
Orodreth V: :-P
TheSirG3: sigh, Windows XP Home makes it almost impossible to secure Windows ><
VardaValar1: Reminds me, I need to go run through all my Diablo characters again
VardaValar1: Sorry for the pain, Farmer
VardaValar1: You guys know anything about Flash programming?
TheSirG3: it's no wonder that most people are infected w/ spyware and such *sigh*
TheSirG3: nothing Varda, Arathorn does though
VardaValar1: ouch
VardaValar1: Thanks
VardaValar1: We find spyware nearly every time we run our cleaner, mainly adware
TheSirG3: yeah, I should put up a page on securing XP
VardaValar1: Firewalls are a problem if you try to game or do much
VardaValar1: Turn them on, turn them off, rinse and repeat
TheSirG3: not really, Windows XP SP2's firewall is nice
TheSirG3: depends on the firewall though
VardaValar1: Guess I could give it a try then
TheSirG3: routers are much more a problem than firewalls heh
VardaValar1: We had 4 or 5 firewalls running
VardaValar1: Our router has a firewall to fight too
Orodreth V: I surfed the net for years with no firewall and never got a virus
TheSirG3: yeah, firewalls aren't a huge deal
TheSirG3: running an antispyware program that's live monitoring and a web browser other than IE takes care of almost all spyware
VardaValar1: Our new router is better than the old, but when we turn on one comp on the network, it kicks out the WoW players on the other comp
VardaValar1: I use Netscape, helped a ton : )
VardaValar1: Oro, what browser?
Orodreth V: Firefox
Orodreth V: But I only got that recenty
Orodreth V: for a long time I had IE
VardaValar1: Don't see how you escaped with IE
TheSirG3: IPv6 should be the death of routers, convincing ISPs to give people out more than one (I'd for example need about 8) IP will be hard though =(
VardaValar1: We have DSL, and they only gave out a modem, no router
TheSirG3: right
Orodreth V: IPv6 needs to be widly accepted..there are so many things hanging around from when IPs were first being designated...
TheSirG3: yeah
Orodreth V: I mean, I think it's Stanford has a block of IPs about a mile wide that they have no use at all for but can't get rid of.
VardaValar1: That's the main thing across the whole computer world, to make stuff work with each other instead of fighting each other. Proprietary junk
TheSirG3: heh
TheSirG3: something to watch as an escape from windows is the Haiku project -- they're making an open source BeOS clone =)
TheSirG3: Linux has severe fundamental problems, and isn't fit for the home user
VardaValar1: Is Haiku based overseas?
TheSirG3: oh, actual news: The Longhorn betas have started going out =)
TheSirG3: http://haiku-os.org/learn.php
VardaValar1: Thanks for the url
TheSirG3: it's not reached a usable state yet unfortunately, but BeOS had some great features
TheSirG3: want to install graphics drivers? drag the driver into the folder and the system would pick it up and wham, it'd be using it, no reboot =)
Orodreth V: I found this little ditty about windows..
VardaValar1: nice
Orodreth V: trying to think of it
VardaValar1: I'm adding a Computers section to Meeting news ;-)
Orodreth V: "if you want to do something fun, please reboot! if you want to do something fun, please reboot! if you want to do something fun, please reboot!"
TheSirG3: heh
TheSirG3: yep Oro, been there, lots =P
VardaValar1: hehe
TheSirG3: sucked having to reboot to change my IP address or install IPX :-\
Orodreth V: "If you want to do something fun, and you don't want me to use a gun, please reboot!"
Orodreth V: something liek that
VardaValar1: News is up, mostly. Still needs the transcrip
VardaValar1: Oh, I can hear the tune in back hehe
Orodreth V: watching that trailer on loop
Orodreth V: best part is when the fem templar using a gun that shhots fire and runs through the zombie horde
TheSirG3: running Windows as a limited user account is a good idea, but it's got hassles that normal users couldn't deal with =(
Orodreth V: second best part is tied for the entire demon fight and the time the male templar sets off his zombie nade or whatever
Orodreth V: he slaugheters this like baseball field area of zombies
Orodreth V: well back to tft to be all by my lonesome
aranfinwe: time for me to leave as well, namarie all
aranfinwe has left the room.
VardaValar1: bye Finwe
VardaValar1: I'll pop into D2X
