Eonwe Valar (16:59:41): 3.4, 800 fsb,1 G DDR2, 256 ATI Radion PCIExpress x 16 here :}
Menelvagor Valar (16:59:47): Aiya
Eonwe Valar (17:00:01): heya Menelvagor :}
Eonwe Valar (17:00:14): Bragging, er talking, about computers right now it seems :}
FarmerMaggotV (17:00:16): Sigh, at least my computer is better than all my rl friend's ;-)
Menelvagor Valar (17:00:25): sorry, had to finish watching the Matrix before coming here :-)
(17:00:32) ArPharazonV has entered the room.
(transcript from Ar-Pharazon-V):
You have just entered room "ValarGuildMeetingplace."
ArPharazonV: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: hehe was watching that as well :}
Menelvagor Valar: on tv? :-)
ArPharazonV: what?
Eonwe Valar: aye :}
Menelvagor Valar: cool
Menelvagor Valar: btw, Farmer, what is not real about us? :-D
FarmerMaggotV: heh
ArPharazonV: well, I made my rp-post... not sure if it's to your liking, but it's as neutral as I could be
FarmerMaggotV: I can't go to you guys' houses for LAN parties :-P
Arwen V1 has entered the room.
ArPharazonV: oh, btw, finished re-reading the Silmarillion
Eonwe Valar: congrats :}
ArPharazonV: I finally found out what Udun stood for in 'Flame of Udun'
ArPharazonV: it was the Sindarin name of Utumno
Menelvagor Valar: yes you can Farmer, just too expensive :-)
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): Aiya, all!
Menelvagor Valar: Aiya Alatar
Eonwe Valar: heya :}
FarmerMaggotV: heh Menelvagor
Menelvagor Valar: but hey, you can always have an online lan-party :-)
Shaggyjoe: Alatar!?
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): Aye.
Shaggyjoe: Hey Chief! Its gelmir how are ya?
FarmerMaggotV: I think this constitutes first valid use of the bridge other than testing it ;-)
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): I'm good, Gelmir. Nice to see you again.
Shaggyjoe: indeed
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): The bridge works perfectly, FM. If only I could see the user list - it would be PERFECT.
FarmerMaggotV: you can!
Eonwe Valar: Let's give it a couple more minutes to see if anyone else is coming in, then we'll start.
FarmerMaggotV: send a PM to Bridge
FarmerMaggotV: !list
FarmerMaggotV: for the message
Shaggyjoe: Is Varda not showing tonight?
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): Oh ho! Well done, FM!
Eonwe Valar: As far as I've heard she'll be here, but my watch says after 4, so not sure.
FarmerMaggotV: it's a bit boken Alatar, but it's close
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): At least I am saved from AIM.
FarmerMaggotV: it has some issues with people that are in some of the networks when the bridge connects
Musics4Me2: ArPharazonV (SigmaChat): always so cool being in two places at once
HeruRasa has entered the room.
Xseanzee disco has entered the room.
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): Hehe.
ArPharazonV: Aiya
HeruRasa: aiya
Xseanzee disco: Heyy
Shaggyjoe: aiya
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): I like so very much that the Java chat room allows us to use our proper guild names. The AIM names are quite offputting.
Eonwe Valar: heya
Shaggyjoe: I agree, what is it you're using Al?
Musics4Me2: ArPharazonV (SigmaChat): no difference here =)
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): Aye, but AIM forced me to be "AlatarValar2." I hate the numbers. :-(
ArPharazonV: there's another alatarvalar out there?
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): Gelmir, we have a Java chat room that bridges into the AIM session, courtesy of our programing star FarmerMaggot.
ArPharazonV: ooh, perhaps the real one...
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): Here is the link
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): Any Java browser will do
FarmerMaggotV: any browser with Java is a tad more correct ;-)
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): I must say this is nice..
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): Hehe. Welcome to the Java chat, Gelmir. We can send PMs to each other within the Java by double clicking the name.
Eonwe Valar: OK, we're about to begin.
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): If you wish to see who is logged in where, send a PM to Bridge. Send him "!list" and he'll tell you what's up.

Eonwe Valar: Elen Sila Lumenn Omentielvo.
GwaihirValar has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Membership News:
Eonwe Valar: We have a new member this week: Haleth.
MoriFinwe has entered the room.
Eonwe Valar: Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that she is here, or she could give a few words.
MoriFinwe: Aiya
GwaihirValar: back
FarmerMaggotV: She said she had bunches of homework to do and her Dad was coming home from Japan. (or something similiar, I don't have the log in front of me unfort)
Eonwe Valar: Ah cool
Eonwe Valar: Well, either way, Hail and Welcome Haleth :}
Menelvagor Valar: aye!
VardaValar1 has entered the room.
VardaValar1: Aiya
Eonwe Valar: Any other member news?
Menelvagor Valar: a couple things on Haleth :-)
Eonwe Valar: go ahead, then remembered we do have more member news :}
Menelvagor Valar: she's 14, can't find from where in my log, but should be on news anyways
FarmerMaggotV: She's pretty cool, from AZ
MoriFinwe has left the room.
VardaValar1: Arizona
Menelvagor Valar: thanks :-)
Menelvagor Valar: she's read a whole bunch of books, writes as well
Menelvagor Valar: very well spoken, good behavior, anything we wish to see in a member
Eonwe Valar: Sounsd good :}
Eonwe Valar: Sounds even :}
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): Certainly sounds like an asset! :-)
Menelvagor Valar: would've tested her myself, if it wasn't for the minor inconvenience I haven't reread LotR yet
Eonwe Valar: Better get on it then Menel :} we need good testers :}
Menelvagor Valar: instead, I sent her back to Varda (whom she had already contacted) and Varda tested a day or 2 later, even before I had a chance to email Varda about her
Menelvagor Valar: good speed there! :-)
VardaValar1: Haleth contacted me for a time
Menelvagor Valar: aye, I told her to do that :-)
Menelvagor Valar: but the how is not important, that she is with us, is!
Menelvagor Valar: so, from me personally: Welcome!
Menelvagor Valar: anyways, that's it for Haleth :-)
Eonwe Valar: Thanks for a few words on behalf of Haleth :}
Menelvagor Valar: my pleasure :-)
Eonwe Valar: Continuing Member News:
Eonwe Valar: Sweep:
Eonwe Valar: Varda has completed the Sweep, and we have the membership for 2005
Eonwe Valar: A list of Full Members and Tolkien-Only Members swept has been posted on the News.
Eonwe Valar: Anyone who has been swept will need to be retested.
VardaValar1: the correct list is on the
VardaValar1: Activity page
VardaValar1: comp problems, but will try to get all taken care of
VardaValar1: Virus keeps turning off comp
Eonwe Valar: ouch.
FarmerMaggotV: antivirus won't get it?
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): : (
VardaValar1: but it should be right on News
VardaValar1: Dies during Antivirus check
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): Guys, im sorry to interupt ive got to go afk for about 15 minutes to get a hair cut.
VardaValar1: but we can talk about it later
VardaValar1: bye Gelmir
Eonwe Valar: Along with the Sweep, I adjusted the Forum membership to be in agreement with the Sweep.
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): Question concerning a minor membership issue?
HeruRasa: AFK 10 mins
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead Alatar.
FarmerMaggotV: AFK - dinner
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): Thank you. Since we now have multiple avenues for coming to the meetings, has there been something done to keep track of ...
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): ... attendance from all venues?
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): Unless we speak, for example, Varda would not know we are here in SigmaChat, attending the meeting. :-)
Eonwe Valar: The easiest way would be for those who are attending through these other means to let us know who is there, or better yet that they are there by speaking.
ArPharazonV: aye, just give a greeting or something, to let us know, so you can be jotted down
Eonwe Valar: I do see your point, Alatar.
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): Seems so to me, also - just wanted to mention it as a possible future spot for hard feelings from some who are more shy
VardaValar1: I had been trying to be in more than one place
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): I have no problem with being verbose, it seems. :D
VardaValar1: including Sigma Chat
VardaValar1: We have some very shy or afk folk though
Menelvagor Valar: send !list to Musics4Me2 in PM :-)
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): As I said, a minor point. Just thought I'd mention it. :-)
VardaValar1: Important, thanks
Eonwe Valar: Generally we keep an eye on a place so long as there's a chance other people will use that means. For example, for a while we were translating the meeting between bnet and the Yahoo Board Chat Channel.
ArPharazonV: right, but that doesn't give a list of everybody who was there at some point of the meeting, just of the attendants at the current point in the meeting
ArPharazonV: you'd have to check the list over and over and over again
ArPharazonV: to make sure you got everybody
Eonwe Valar: Just in case those who no longer wanted to touch bnet games still wanted to come to meetings.
VardaValar1: I need transcript helpers today
VardaValar1: Will get them up for last week, your work is not wasted
ArPharazonV: :-)
ArPharazonV: I still want to read last week's tolkien-talk
Eonwe Valar: Any other Membership News?
VardaValar1: Make sure I have your correct email!
Menelvagor Valar: unless WoW crashes my comp, gonna be here all night
VardaValar1: and it's a good idea to make sure we have your AIM name right
Eonwe Valar: And while we're at it, make sure your gaming information on the Games Page is right :}
VardaValar1: oh
VardaValar1: aye :-)
Eonwe Valar: and if you haven't already, sign up on the Forum and get involved! :}
Eonwe Valar: OK, Guess we're ready for Web News :}
VardaValar1: Fangorn says hi, just went back to work for another week
VardaValar1: Was on earlier in WoW . I'm done :-)
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Varda :}

Eonwe Valar: Web news:
Eonwe Valar: While adjusting the membership for the Forum to match the recent sweep, I also cleaned out some duplicate names and some apparently unused ones as well.
Eonwe Valar: Only really old unused ones though. Any made within the last few months were left in case the person who made them decides to use them.
Eonwe Valar: Any other Web news?
Menelvagor Valar: Thank you, my very productive Forum administrating aid :-)
Eonwe Valar: hehe, thanks.
Menelvagor Valar: yes, I have some webnews
HeruRasa: back
Eonwe Valar: Go ahead Menelvagor.
Menelvagor Valar: ok, concerning the WoW page, 2 things:
Menelvagor Valar: first of all, the charter.
Menelvagor Valar: I want to put it up asap, but have to wait on Maglor to add me a button for the link where I can put it.
Menelvagor Valar: as for the membership list...
Menelvagor Valar: Although there is some information on characters in the Forum, I haven't nearly got the complete list
Menelvagor Valar: and the number of emails I've got in total amounts to zip
VardaValar1: I think there must be a lot of alts we don't know, and can't add to the guild if they don't communicate
Menelvagor Valar: in other words, not much I can do there (other than the fact that I've been playing WoW feverishly last week and haven't gotten around to putting the list up that I do have)
VardaValar1: Also some available on Activity page, but tough slogging for people to locate that info!
Menelvagor Valar: aye
Menelvagor Valar: anyways, 1-3 main characters is enough to go by for people checking out who's playing what the most
Menelvagor Valar: and if at all possible, as discussed last week, I would like to include professions to the list, and only thing I've seen so far (other than Gwaihir in PM) was Varda
VardaValar1: some on Activity page ;-)
Menelvagor Valar: will check this week
Eonwe Valar: Ok guys, second call for this info ;} make sure you send it in :}
VardaValar1: Would you like them to pm you now during the meeting?
Menelvagor Valar: anything will do :-)
Eonwe Valar: And send me a CC of the e-mail naming your primary character for the WoW listing on the Main Games Page.
Menelvagor Valar: oh and Gwai, please send me again, I lost your by forgetting to save :-\
Menelvagor Valar: oh, please add the title of the profession as well, i.e. basic, journeyman, expert, artisan
GwaihirValar: hehe... pretty easy... I'm in my expert on both tailor/enchant :-)
Menelvagor Valar: and the rest is in forums, gotcha
Eonwe Valar: Thanks Menelvagor :} If you need me to resend my info via e-mail I can do that as well.
GwaihirValar: I've gotta update my profile with levels, but ya the characters are right
VardaValar1: Please pm Menel
Eonwe Valar: Any other Web news?
Eonwe Valar: ok, Gaming News:
Eonwe Valar: This is somewhat borderline web/gaming:
Eonwe Valar: Arathorn has put up some more screenshots from WoW
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): (Pardon) Did my last question make it through? Sorry, Eonwe...
Eonwe Valar: Don't forget to send in your own pics :}
Eonwe Valar: I missed your question, Alatar.
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): I had an internet hiccup, apologies.
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): Ah, repeating then. Would it be possible to pass the information to Turgon regarding WoW characters via the forums?
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): Varda said PM
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): But I am not using AIM.
Eonwe Valar: There's a PM function on the Forums as well
Eonwe Valar: He can then read them at his leisure.
VardaValar1: That is one of our probs. PM if on AIM to Menel, and Menel could also use Sigma
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): So a PM in the forums? Will do.
Menelvagor Valar: any means will do Alatar
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): A PM in the forums works fine, I think.
Menelvagor Valar: if it works, it works :-)
Eonwe Valar: About screenshots: Not that I'm tired of seeing Arathorn's conquests, but he can't possibly be the only one out there doing stuff :}
Menelvagor Valar: ah blast, should've made a screenie of doing Van Cleef in today
Eonwe Valar: Speaking of which, You might find a picture of me hitting creatures with cooking utensils "|
GwaihirValar: I usually get too into my fights to remember to take a screenshot lol
Menelvagor Valar: gotta make a pic of me with my 12-pound mudsnapper together with my mining pick then :-)
Eonwe Valar: The pictures need to be jpg, so try to find someone who can convert ifrom tga t if you can, or at least send only one at a time so we don;t overrunn his inbox.
[Webmaster's Note: see News or link from here for a converter. Link sent in by Menelvagor Feb 23.]

Gaming News:
Eonwe Valar: WoW news:
Eonwe Valar: We are going to be doing the Gryphon Run beginning right after the meeting. Everyone needs to meet in Cathedral Square in Stormwind.
VardaValar1: Some are very far away and may need escorted to SW
HeruRasa: I can group port
VardaValar1: That is also an opportunity for Gryphon Run :-)
Eonwe Valar: Aye :}
VardaValar1: Hooray!
Eonwe Valar: Ulmo, you had something?
HeruRasa: aye
Menelvagor Valar: gryphon run to which places?
HeruRasa: I have the components to do a +5 Spirit enchant to bracer for all who come tonight :-)
Eonwe Valar: Gryphon run to everywhere we can reach.
Eonwe Valar: The purpose of the Gryphon run is to ensure the ability of all members to get together.
Menelvagor Valar: hehe
Menelvagor Valar: so that also means a Hippgryph run :-)
Menelvagor Valar: Hippogryph*
HeruRasa: Major flight paths to the ports for getting accross continents are the most important
Eonwe Valar: We want everyone to be able to get to other places in the world, since next week will begin our Weekly Guild Questing/raid.
GwaihirValar: hmm... if we have three people who can fly to each place(provieed one is a warlock) we can do a mass summons
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): It's an excellent idea for a guild activity! Sadly, and I DO mean sadly, family time pressures are going to keep me from it. :-(
Eonwe Valar: Any other Gaming News?
HeruRasa: I believe Arathorn has the only warlock that can summon, and won't be on tonight
VardaValar1: We will be doing more Gryphon Runs, not to panic folks :-)
ArPharazonV: weekly quests/raids, eh?
Menelvagor Valar: that would mean at least 3 gryphon paths, and 3 hippo paths
ArPharazonV: nice... now that's the advantage of a MMO-guild
Eonwe Valar: yep :}
Menelvagor Valar: if it's organised, yep
Menelvagor Valar: on Europe I'm in a guild, but organisation hard to find yet
Eonwe Valar: Already announced my plans for them last week :}
Musics4Me2: Alatar (SigmaChat): The time has come for me to take my leave, friends. Anar kaluva tielyanna! Namarie. /bow
Menelvagor Valar: Namarie
Menelvagor Valar: /salute
HeruRasa: namarie
Eonwe Valar: If there's no further business, those of us heading to the Gryphon run may start moving that way.
Menelvagor Valar: one last thing
Eonwe Valar: Yes?
GwaihirValar: what level do warlocks GET su mmon anyways...
ArPharazonV: weekly raids/questing? you announced that last week? darn, was probably just after I left
VardaValar1: Namarie to those leaving
Menelvagor Valar: on europe, I can be found on Argent Dawn, lvl 25 human mage, Gondoline
ArPharazonV: oh well, will read it in the transcript
Eonwe Valar: I hope it won't be long before you Europe guys can join us on Lothar.
Menelvagor Valar: hope so :-)
Menelvagor Valar: but prolly will be 60 by the time that is possible :-)
Eonwe Valar: good reason to start a new char on Lothar :}
Menelvagor Valar: well, I've already got half a dozen alts there, checking out a little what's what
Eonwe Valar: OK, meeting adjourned. *bangs gavel*

GwaihirValar: Argent Dawn... playing on an RP server?
Eonwe Valar: For those of us remaining, I pose this question :
Eonwe Valar: What would Tolkien think of "leet speak" ?
VardaValar1: He would be appalled :-)
Menelvagor Valar: well, RP isn't really RP in most MMO's lol
Menelvagor Valar: even in DaoC RP servers were mostly the same as normal
Menelvagor Valar: and created a char there because a guild Phar was going to join was going to play on an RP server, but since I couldn't access their website, I just went ahead and created a char on one of the RP servers
VardaValar1: DAoC had problems from what we saw, with rp server, so we are avoiding those problems
Menelvagor Valar: and started out with an Undead Warlock, but quickly changed to Alliance side
Menelvagor Valar: aye
Menelvagor Valar: but as far as I can see, there is no real RP'ing being done on my RP server
Menelvagor Valar: although I want to bring that up to the attention of the Guild
GwaihirValar: prolly 'cause itsnot yet established
Menelvagor Valar: has to start somewhere :-)
HeruRasa: anyone coming on the gryphon run?
Menelvagor Valar: I think I'll be going to hunt Murlocs for some Iridescent pearls in the Wetlands, gotta make my Spidersilk boots :-)
VardaValar1: Bilbo is present
VardaValar1: so he has my WoW comp
ArPharazonV: aye, website is gone
Eonwe Valar: I met someone who was RPing on a normal server.
ArPharazonV: I guess Guild is gone as well, or completely removed elsewhere
ArPharazonV: I'll still be creating my character on Argent Dawn, but I'll see about joining an Undead Guild later
Menelvagor Valar: in the meantime, join me on the Alliance side :-)
ArPharazonV: neh, don't think so, not yet
Menelvagor Valar: it's cool there :-)
GwaihirValar: horde people, on the US servers, are generally nicer than alliance people
GwaihirValar: for some odd reason
ArPharazonV: I've decided to go Alliance in the US, and Horde in Europe, at least for the beginning
ArPharazonV: Alliance for the Valar Guild
ArPharazonV: and Horde so I can still split up my experiences evenly
Menelvagor Valar: got both Horde and Alliance in US, so for me, it doesn't really matter :-)
GwaihirValar: I play both... on several servers
ArPharazonV: I don't think I'll be doing much Horde in the US
GwaihirValar: heh
GwaihirValar: Shattered Hand, Laughing Skull, Lothar, Draenor for Alliance
ArPharazonV: in fact, if it wasn't for the Valar Guild, I would probably stay in Europe all together
Menelvagor Valar: I got a couple friends on Horde in US :-)
GwaihirValar: Lightning's Blade, Daggerspine for Horde
Menelvagor Valar: if it hadn
Menelvagor Valar: t been for bliz, I wouldn't have been in europe alltogether :-)
ArPharazonV: ...
ArPharazonV: you get my point, don't you?
Menelvagor Valar: I do :-)
ArPharazonV: good
VardaValar1: We are corrupting poor innocent Europeans
Eonwe Valar: good
ArPharazonV: :-)
ArPharazonV: don't worry about corrupting me
ArPharazonV: the war3 forums are doing that a lot more than the Valar Guild
Eonwe Valar: even better.
ArPharazonV: so, anyway, I'll be spending my time in Europe on Horde mostly
ArPharazonV: I like their races a lot more, actually :-)
ArPharazonV: more nature-y, and such
Eonwe Valar: except for the undead
ArPharazonV: with, of course, the exception of the Night-Elves, and the Undead
Eonwe Valar: nolthing natural about them, unless decay counts.
GwaihirValar: I don't like orc or tauren... but troll and undead are nice...
ArPharazonV: hehe
GwaihirValar: and on alliance I don't like dwarf or gnome(except for the fact that gnome females are adorable lol)
ArPharazonV: aye, my second character in Europe will probably be a troll priest
GwaihirValar: so...
Eonwe Valar: Tauren are probably my preferred Horde race, with orcs a second.
GwaihirValar: I'm split
ArPharazonV: I'm not sure... I'm attracted by the mystery and the power surrounding the Forsaken
ArPharazonV: if you think about it, the Undead have never been truly defeated unless by other Undead
Menelvagor Valar: no other race but the undead swelled their ranks by taking over the fallen from battle
Menelvagor Valar: or other ailments
Menelvagor Valar: anyways, off to WoW I go
ArPharazonV: aye... every loss to the Alliance army is a double victory for the Undead
ArPharazonV: ok, have fun
ArPharazonV: but my first character will indeed be an Undead female rogue... Nemesys will be her name, and the bow will be her game
VardaValar1: Please send transcript
VardaValar1: I won't be able to check, so you can look at your Sent folder
ArPharazonV: ok, cool
VardaValar1: Phar, like to mention your Udun topic?
ArPharazonV: still have a lot to learn about gmail
ArPharazonV: I've said something about it in the beginning
ArPharazonV: not as detailed as to you, but still it's mentioned
GwaihirValar: noooo!!! Not another undead rogue!!!
ArPharazonV: if you like to mention it in the summary, thanks
VardaValar1: this being the time to talk Tolkien, now would be the time to mention
ArPharazonV: ArPharazonV: oh, btw, finished re-reading the SilmarillionEonwe Valar: congrats :}
GwaihirValar: sry :-)
ArPharazonV: ArPharazonV: I finally found out what Udun stood for in 'Flame of Udun'ArPharazonV: it was the Sindarin name of Utumno
ArPharazonV: that's what I said about it
VardaValar1: Congrats
ArPharazonV: so, started UT today
ArPharazonV: first few pages of Tuor and the coming to Gondolin
VardaValar1: What about the bit on being just a part of Mordor by that time?
VardaValar1: made it a bit more insulting comment on Gandalf's end
ArPharazonV: :-)
VardaValar1: Congrats
ArPharazonV: so, want me to repeat here what I said to you in the pm, Varda?
ArPharazonV: hey, question for all of you: if I wanted to make a character that could reach the Dark Ranger-hero-class
ArPharazonV: what class would be the best to pick?
VardaValar1: It would be nice for the transcript
VardaValar1: I think everyone else has left
GwaihirValar: I'm here-ish
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): im back
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): and I look sexah!
VardaValar1: Odd, as there aren't that many on WoW yet
VardaValar1: Heya
VardaValar1: Gelmir, are you in Lothar?
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): I will resists teh wow!
VardaValar1: ah, ok
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): No, I havnt bought it.
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): ick spelling errors like mad tonight.
VardaValar1: Phar, yes, go ahead and copy/paste or however you want to do it
VardaValar1: Worth telling
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): I played Beta untill it closed however. I think its a really good game but right now I want to spend more of my time on Daoc.
ArPharazonV: ok, here it is
ArPharazonV: the explanation for Flame of Udun, found in the Silmarillion
ArPharazonV: the Appendix has, as you may know, a list of linguistical elements, organized alphabetically
VardaValar1: That was what Gandalf called the Balrog of Moria.
ArPharazonV: look for the t, the element 'tum'
ArPharazonV: after a reference to Tumhalad, Tumladen, etc, it says this:
ArPharazonV: "Cf. Utumno, Sindarin Udûn (Gandalf in Moria named the Balrog 'Flame of Udûn'), a name afterwards used of the deep dale in Mordor between the Morannon and the Isenmouthe."
ArPharazonV: and that's it
VardaValar1: Thanks Phar
VardaValar1: Sindarin was the main Elf language used at the time of the War of the Rng
VardaValar1: Quenya was more like Latin
VardaValar1: Humans probably used more Quenya than Elves at that point, and even then for writing.
VardaValar1: I assume that rubbed off on Gandalf, as to a fellow Maia, like the Balrog, he could have used Valinorean, or Quenya, or mindspeak.
VardaValar1: Maybe not mindspeak
ArPharazonV: with the exception of the palantiri, loud speech would probably be more powerful and expressive than mindspeak
VardaValar1: I doubt they were sympatico enough to want to touch minds
VardaValar1: but Gandalf chose to use Sindarin
VardaValar1: It may have been another sign of how much he cared about the people in the current Middle-earth of that time.
GwaihirValar: nooooo..... WoW > DAoC!
GwaihirValar: ;-)
ArPharazonV: :-)
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): nah
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): WoW PvP is teh suck.
ArPharazonV: never played DAoC
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): gah
GwaihirValar: that's the point Gelmir :-)
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): I've been playing 3+ ish years.
GwaihirValar: that's a great thing about WoW... pvp is minimal and avoidable!
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): Im one of the best assassin classes on my server. Even though Im not as high a realm rank.
GwaihirValar: even on pvp servers!
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): gah I only like fighting the computer in stratigey games.
VardaValar1: We are not on a pvp server, so we don't have to pvp if we don't choose to.
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): I would like to explore with you all though.
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): bring out my NE hunter.
VardaValar1: That would be fun. Join my NE hunter : )
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): get me a Black Raptor ? pet.
GwaihirValar: black raptor...?
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): I love the passive stealth at night
VardaValar1: I have a raptor, but prefer my owl
GwaihirValar: passive stealth at night?
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): some super uber pet : )
GwaihirValar: I've never heard anything about that... and my hunter's 53 lol
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): the NE ability that cloaks them at night if you stood still...
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): o.O
FarmerMaggotV: brb
ArPharazonV: shadowmeld
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): ya know.. like on WC 3.. if you play NE's at night they get a camoflauge of sorts?
FarmerMaggotV has left the room.
ArPharazonV: btw, my sound has just vanished
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): pish, shadowmeld, stealth same thing.
ArPharazonV: so it's a little hard to keep up on the chat now
ArPharazonV: no worries, I have to be going soon anyway
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): no problem, im about to load up daoc and go kill my nightly 100 people or so.
GwaihirValar: NE can shadowmeld at any time
GwaihirValar: and its not passive :-)
ArPharazonV: I'll save the transcript now
GwaihirValar: its an active ability
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): I thought it was in beta.. stand still it activates.
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): I could be wrong.
GwaihirValar: well NOW its an active racial trait hehe
ArPharazonV: it's called shadowmeld in war3, passive, and at night
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): that was awhile ago.
GwaihirValar: ya, in wc3 its passive
GwaihirValar: but in wow its an active ability
GwaihirValar: to prevent NE from being played exclusively at night
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): was it like that in beta?
ArPharazonV: hide is the active bit of it, that you don't attack people who would otherwise trigger you
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): thats one of the only things i dont agree with on wow, the lack of styles.
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): kinda like a push a button and attack till the enemy is dead. :\
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): not really any form of tactical combat.
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): but I must say it was a blast, and a beeutiful envrioment as well. as a whole.
GwaihirValar: errr.....
GwaihirValar: no form of tactical combat?
GwaihirValar: how high level did you get in beta?
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): I had a 21 NE hunter but I played a buddies 37 hunter
GwaihirValar: that explains a lot *grins*
GwaihirValar: trust me
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): its not as tactical as Daoc.
GwaihirValar: once you start doing Uldaman and above
GwaihirValar: it gets a LOT more tactical
GwaihirValar: places like ungoro... if you AREN'T playing tactically... you won't survive long
ArPharazonV: ok, saving transcript now
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): well in daoc if you dont choose a style to preform each round of combat you will do unstyled swings which do significantly less
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): damage
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): styles dont have timers either, just certian magic spells.
Musics4Me2: Gelmir (SigmaChat): and there are reactionary styles.
(transcript from Menelvagor-Valar):
Musics4Me2 (18:58:29): Gelmir (SigmaChat): IE you evade, block, parry.
ArPharazonV (18:58:32): saved
GwaihirValar (18:58:34): so its different
ArPharazonV (18:58:40): going to send now
ArPharazonV (18:58:43): I hope you will save the rest
Musics4Me2 (18:58:44): Gelmir (SigmaChat): rgr
GwaihirValar (18:58:45): so play a warrior btw...
GwaihirValar (18:58:50): warriors are incredibly tactical...
GwaihirValar (18:58:57): you have to swap stances every attack or so
GwaihirValar (18:59:18): my warriors changes his stance every 3-4 seconds
Musics4Me2 (18:59:19): Gelmir (SigmaChat): I dont like meat shields.
Musics4Me2 (18:59:31): Gelmir (SigmaChat): I like to be stealthy : )
ArPharazonV (18:59:35): "tanks"
GwaihirValar (18:59:36): play a rogue
Musics4Me2 (18:59:37): Gelmir (SigmaChat): sneak up on people.
ArPharazonV (18:59:41): they're called "tanks"
GwaihirValar (18:59:44): they're almost as active
ArPharazonV (18:59:48): meatshield sounds so degrading
GwaihirValar (18:59:56): meatshield is a character that can't do anything BUT tank
GwaihirValar (19:00:05): a warrior is a tank because they have a lot of abilities
GwaihirValar (19:00:08): its really fun to play
GwaihirValar (19:00:14): I'm not a huge fan of melee players either but...
GwaihirValar (19:00:17): warrior is REALLY qutie fun
Musics4Me2 (19:00:22): Gelmir (SigmaChat): they are Meat Sheilds... they block attacks and keep other meat shields off of the casters and bowmen
Musics4Me2 (19:00:35): Gelmir (SigmaChat): the frontline men in football.
Musics4Me2 (19:00:44): Gelmir (SigmaChat): blocking for qb's ; )
ArPharazonV (19:01:28): you should feel honored, at least you can take a punch :-)
Musics4Me2 (19:01:45): Gelmir (SigmaChat): eh?
Shaggyjoe (19:02:45): oh dont get me wrong Gwaihir, I play an assassin in daoc, very akin to the rouge. Melee is where its at, but I dont like the idea of not being able to hide ; )
ArPharazonV (19:04:23): ok, transcript sent
ArPharazonV (19:04:26): gonna take off now
ArPharazonV (19:04:29): Namarie
(19:05:01) ArPharazonV has left the room.
GwaihirValar (19:06:03): lol so the hiding is all it is...
GwaihirValar (19:06:13): hiding is too powerful in WoW as it is now
GwaihirValar (19:06:19): there's a serious balance flaw in the rogue
Eonwe Valar (19:14:40): I'm sure if there's that big of a problem, blizzard will fix it :}
VardaValar1 (19:17:07): I've been asked to go to WoW
VardaValar1 (19:17:31): Bilbo has to leave, Eowyn is still busy in rl, and I happened to be at a break point
